In fact, not only bitcoin was going down rapidly. All cryptos was goung to red. Andbwr know that the bitcoin when rising up was very fast so i think it is the same when goes to falling. But in the month of january and february i think it is only normal because this is the month of dropping price let's wait till the mid year and let's see what happen next

But it can really affect the investors who fund on buying bitcoin. I hope this will increase sooner. but for those who are crypto minded it is the time to buy bitcoin because of the price are getting lower.

If you ask why bitcoin is going down in the last few weeks, you should probably ask why bitcoin increase its value by 20 times in the last year in the first place. Nothing is going up in the straight line (or parabolic line). If a coin doubles its value in the short amount of time, it will be probably down by 30% after that. That is just how markets behave in this world. No need to panic since the fundamental of BTC has never changed.

1. It's normal correction phase.
2. Some big big dudes want to enter the cryptomarket. They have to play bearish so that their depo would be bigger.
3. It's a usual thing for middle and late winter season. Wait for cryptospring and buy alts on dips. Some of them will go to the moon. My bets are: NEO, Karbo, Litecoin. And BTC will probably hit 19k+

Just endure and enjoy this moment to buy and hold btc, you'll never know it might increase again, as well as experienced in past years, it's common that by January most coins were dropping and just increases after a month or two.

This seems to be a normal course of action for BTC at around this year. While it's possible anything can happen at any given point in time, I believe in the technology and trust that it will shoot back up. Holding for the long term so lets see where it takes us. Good luck

I guess because of no investors, no buyers of bitcoin. The rapid go down of bitcoin is because of few people wants to have bitcoin and maybe because of the prediction that btc will not continue to always goes up. The major role of btc with this crypto land is a major effect to altcoins. Bitcoin goes up then the altcoin goes up too. Hopefully btc will back soon.

Simply because the market is down. There are lot of issues arise from different countries that greatly affects trading. Korea which own the largest trading company has a problem regarding legalities due to taxes. Their government introduce new policies to control the profit that the company get through exchanges.

Have you been able to use it for anything?  Have you transferred it anywhere or did you decide not to because the fees were too high?  Are you mining it or are you mining alt coins because they are more profitable and cheaper to move around?

Even though bitcoin took a hit because of goverments against bitcoin it won't matter for long the prie will go back up and we will simply just exclude these countries. Only a really crappy country will ban bitcoin and take you freedom.

Bitcoin is doing because of the people dump bitcoins.

Really hey? How very observant of you....

Maybe end of Feb? I rate we see 20k soon too. Hopefully not too long though I am not too worried since I can earn in that time.

Don't be panic with the price of Bitcoin. Price will be fixed with short possible of time. Bitcoin price was increasing rapidly. So it is on correction. Bitcoin also on volatile. After this correction price will rise again with a great value.

This is an entirely expected correction. It is simply taking out the froth in the market. Just look at all the panic posts on this forum where people are worried "should I sell now and save what's left??"  That's called shaking out the weak hands. It's a normal part of markets.

The only thing I see this as is an opportunity to buy at a discounted price. There was a while there where I was having a hard time buy even a fraction of btc, where as now I can buy quite a bit more and I am sure in time it will go back up. When it does climb again is should sail over $20k this time too.

Bitcoin price remained always in great surges and every time after price decreasing surge it again go up with new record price so i think January and February will be the month for Bitcoin in range 10000USD to 13000USD then in March it will start rising.

Everything to do with the Bitcoin futures markets that opened in Dec 2017.  Contracts are settling about now, would think between once settled and the next futures contracts in Feb 2018, will see BTC gains.  A time for whales and hodlers as weak hands are shaken about.

Absolutely agree. Most people don't realize that Bitcoin futures mean that traders can now go short Bitcoin. That means they can essentially buy -1 Bitcoin and make money when it goes down.

That has resulted in an entirely new dynamic in the market place. Previously, the only way to push the price down was to sell Bitcoin that you had already bought earlier. But now, traders can sell Bitcoin that they never even bought before.

well i think the reason is the weak dollar, coz america want to encourage its manufacturing industry ,it has to devaluate dollar exchange rate, the willing of people to buy dollar is also weakened in this situation.

there are also somehow bubbles in the crypto world ,most of the cryptos are not playing a role in the real world, it's just a speculating tool ,whatever it's called btc ltc, etc.

Just have a look on bitcoin price from December-17, it was height of the market and and number one coin, buyers hold the coin in plenty, as per the trend of market a raise is always followed by a down, there is a down fall is must after a huge rise so worry not it will give you the profit may be a little low till year mid it again rise.

it is very normal and it happens because it is similar like last year's cycle, at the beginning of the year usually all the coins decrease and the coin will return to normal price in the next few months. so I think we should stay focused and hold the coins and do not panic.

Some say it's Chinese new year, some say it's just a market correction. All other alts are going down because of weak hands that bought more crypto than they should have in the first place. Just be patient, the market will go up again.

This is generally a low time of year, and also there is a lot of negative or uncertain news about regulation in certain areas (China, Korea, US with Tether). Once all of these issues pass by and it gets later on in the year I expect the sentiment will turn around again. Before we repeat the cycle :)

secondly, the news that facebook will not allow cryptocurrency related adds anymore. this would affect ico's and he whole marketing and advertising wing of every crypto company.

I think the decline is actually a good thing, we can buy bitcoin at a lower price, including other cryptocurrencies, such as Ethereum, will also receive volatility decline, bitcoin in the cryptocurrency position is too important, Its fall will cause other cryptocurrencies to fall.

The reason why bitcoin decrease by falling it's value because many investors dumping their bitcoin in which can cause lower the value price of Btc.Many investors absolutely trade thier bitcoin and this is the root why it is going down.

But i know it will pump up again because i believe that bitcoin will continue it's horizon to rising up.The important is we continue to invest bitcoin and be focus always for what we are doing to make are earnings grow.

Every trader start selling its bitcoin when it going down rapidly and their stop losses triggered and it give more downside to it and same happening this time also. It goes down shartly and many traders stop losses triggered and they have no option other then sell to stop more losses.

Bitcoin or Altcoins are going down or decreasing in price because investors are making money out of Cryptocurrencies and they deserve to get their profit as we do.
We all soon enjoy or investments in due time that's why we need to hold our coins as long as we could because someday we will get our money too like what some investors are doing today or this week.

Because of FUD and fake news. There are many whales out there that are making some fake news or FUD, just to try manipulate the market and lower down the price of bitcoin. Because whales are just making some move so that they can buy bitcoin in the lower price.

Why? We had some bad news going out recently.

First and most notable, U.S. regulators send subpoena to Bitfinex and Tether. This is probably due to Tether lack of public audits since they recently announce that their relationship with an auditor has been "dissolved". Why Bitfinex? Because they are the biggest exchange that use USDT. Secondly, SEC filed a lawsuit against a scam $600m AriseBack ICO. This isn't necessarily fundamentally bad though, just a bad publicity for crypto. And the latest one: Facebook banning crypto ads.

If you are looking for simple answer, I can tell you this, it is going down because it is not going up!

Now moving to second part of you question, for this please open coinmarket website and check altcoins prices. If you don't see anything I will explain. Almost all alt coins are in red, which means they are going down too. So now I hope you can see with your own eyes one of the effect in crypto world that BTC price going down has.

Bitcoin is down because of few factors: 1 is futures , CBOE and other futures 75% of investors predicted bitcoin going down in december so they can easily manipulate it to receive profit.
2.  many common guys bought bitcoin and whales can shake them and cut their profit.
3. because in december was too fast grow, from 6k to 20k, now its back to normal pace.

Recently there has been FUD going on about tether(USDT) which is impacting and we are seeing sell off moreover #January has historically been the worst month for crypto for 5 consecutive years. We have seen this before. But we have also seen a return to all-time highs, in February every year, so we have reason to be hopeful.#Bitcoin is becoming increasingly popular and mainstream – it is being #discussed everywhere by everyone. Some of that discussion is accurate, some are not, some is honest, some are pure FUD.

so just hodl and wait things will get better soon. :)

Of course, there are a lot of different causes, but the main one is the crazy growth of the last months, an this is an inevitable correction.
(don't forget that this is a crash if you bought bitcoin in december, but if you bought it last year, you still had 1000% profit!)

Perhaps this is due to the fact that recently there have been a lot of questions that concern the Tether project. Because I do not think they have so much money in real life. But they were able to stretch their paws to bitcoin and many other crypto-currencies. This is a very dangerous project.

I think some big Whales and big funds behind this crash in bitcoin because they want to buy bitcoin at lower level which sold buy small investors like us. They use some bad news to dump the bitcoin. And technically bitcoin has Resistance abound 13200$ and very good support at 9800$ .If bitcoin pumps and break the resistance level of 13200$ we will seen 15000$ in just 1 month. We seen from past few days bitcoin is in a range of 9500$ to 13000$.

Since ICO's have bitcoin on their own from investors they might be the culprit for all this dump too.
They need money to continue the service or to pay for all the advertisements.
They might have sold it. We dont really know but that is my opinion.
ETH have been silent with just $100 difference while other coins are really hurt even if it is just for a dollar.

I think not only bitcoin even some altcoins was dropped but don't panic and the most important don't sell your bitcoin because it's just not the right time for them maybe next month they will start rising. If all of us will panic and sell our holdings it can affect the market and to all investors.

Anyway, we all know that prices can not always grow, so they can not constantly fall. So we just have to wait god time.

The prices must fall so the big boys from the US financial sector can get your cheap bitcoin.  It will go down untill the tree cannot be shook anymore then we will continue our trend to 100k.  Same sh*t as always.

Pretty much it, big boys are having the times of their lives, selling high, dropping the price. Then picking up their short futures profits and buying at low prices.

Nobody of us know that why bitcoin is going down from few weeks. In my opinion firstly it's may be because of negative news regarding bitcoin and cryptocurrency from many countries, secondly due to traders whose are book their profit or sell to stop loss of their trade.

The total market cap from the past two weeks is declining hard, from 600B+ down to 400B that is why bitcoin itself is declining too,it seems investors cashing out and put those billions of dollars into their pocket so you need to expect worst than this,BTC might declining more if the total marketcap of cryptocurrency wont recover fast.

Crypto is very very volatile. Any bad news can send the market into a nose dive. This is what we have to deal with. Whales can also affect the prices and force the prices down making people sell all while they just buy up coins for cheap and then repeat the process over and over again. We just need more time so that the market can develop and grow. Just hold and buy low and never buy when the coin is at an all time high

what would be the cause of this going down of BTC and how it would affect the crypto world.
FUDs that cause every single holders to sell at panic. India's ban of crypto, Jordan Belfort's shitty interview, facebook's ban of cryptocurrency ads. All these events are altogether happening at the same time and those positive news are forgotten because people are only focusing with the bad news. And to take note of this, people that are behind this down are celebrating that they are ready to buy at dip. To all holders out there, just watch out don't sell and don't panic.

Rumor has it that a great number of big wigs is challenging cryptos' value buying a lot up last year and then selling them all at once to tank the market.  To me it's just an opportunity to do something I should have done 13 years ago.

You can find a lot of opinions online about the "fall" of these days, but it seems that most people forget that - on yearly base - bitcoin still have a 1000% profit.
So, this is just a correction, due also to the incredible war that media and institutions started against bitcoin.
Actually, I'm surprised how well bitcoin resists to these attacks.

Please go the Coindesk and read the news on Feb-02 which spoken by the Finance minister of India. I think his name is some jetlee. He stated that they does not made it legal or not legal yet. They still analyzing to have the blockchain integration in future.

Now no more price dump in the chart so now you can hold the bitcoins or wait some weeks and sell it.

Bitcoin and all Altcoins are volatile and there's no single Altcoin or even Tether could survive if Bitcoin ask continue to drop abruptly to the ground.
Many Cryptocurrency enthusiasts are worried due to the crisis and the weak holders are dumping their coins to prevent more loss from their investments.
People are selling their Bitcoin and Altcoins because they get profits and they want to enjoy their earnings before investing again into another coins.

I agree, Bitcoin holders are now seeing the brighter side of Altcoins than Bitcoin.
Bitcoin if couldn't hold its place as the most valuable Cryptocurrency then it would continue to crash because Altcoins are better than Bitcoin in terms of speed and scalability.
Today, we can't that investors are turning from Bitcoin into Altcoins because in my personal experience, I earned a lot of money from Altcoins than Bitcoin.

For me the problem is multifaceted.

First there is the Tether problem, which demands further scrutiny but is enough to shake the market significantly.

Secondly, there is the issues of ponzis, namely Bitconnect, Davor and the 'lending platforms'. They have taken a large amount of 'mom and pop' money from the economy with their demise and a lot of other speculators pulled the plug also.

Thirdly, the transaction fees recently have been way too high to warrant practical use of the network for anyone holding less than .5 BTC.

The lack of regulation, and even the rumour of any kind of regulation is enough to shake the market for a day or a week. The volatility that makes the market so intriguing for speculators.

I see a lot of issues at the moment that have led to the price drop, but things are still up from this time last year - which is something people forget.

This is the Altcoin section of this forum (in case you have forgotten). Your post is absolute relevant in Bitcoin Discussion but not here. However, the price or value of the BTC always make an impact on other Altcoins. Probably one or two Asian countries are responsible for this down. But the price has gone up today. It's one thousand more than yesterday.

From the starting of the year Bitcoin is having some problem. May be these are those facts for which Bitcoin is plummeted this session-

Facts we have seen this Friday -

1. According to the coindesk.com, Bitcoin plummeted to a two month of $78989 (approximately) on this Friday 02.02.18
2. The Global market of crypto currency is facing a little quake due to wiped out of $100 billion on this Friday.
3. According to the coinmarketcap.com , this Friday the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrency stood a $371739763803

Past and Future

The expectation of Bitcoin price hike has been increased several times within few months. Yesterday who could think it will come down to $5k to $6k and again hiked to $20k , No one knows the exact future figure.  That’s more than a correction, that’s a lot more than a correction but for long-term investors of bitcoin they say this is par for the course.  They say On the other hand, bitcoin had never been a larger asset than it has been.Earlier this week bitcoin lost $44 billion in market value in January. They have treated this manner as "unseen behavior of Bitcoin".
But Some Early bitcoin investor like Ran Neu Ner told CNBC: “Bitcoin goes up, bitcoin goes down, bitcoin goes up and down very quickly. If you remember last few months , Bitcoin was sitting under $8k , So nothing to worry. It was oscillated up to $20,000 in less than two weeks so this is nothing new.

So We’ve seen bitcoin go up and we’ve seen bitcoin go down. So chill and relax, This is the characteristics of the market , Only patience will win.

Hopefully you guys liked my post. I tried to encapsulate important information all together. Strong member please give MERIT to encourage. Thanks a lot.    ;D ;D :-[ :-[

There are couple of reason out there on why this is happening... why bitcoin is falling
1. January is a dry month.
2. FUDS about the coin and the bubble theory
3. news taken out of proportion by the media (pro bankers)
4. Market correction (i dont buy that though)
5. Futures and Whale manipulations.
and many more...

keep your cool and your calm.. dont panic and dont sell. Dont buy either if you think it is a risk. just wait and chill.

I think it is not only a question of why it slowed down or it decreases its value it also a question of why it goes higher and higher on a daily basis more than 10 times in just even a week months and years. It just natural that what goes up must come down. We cannot expect it to go high always all the time. Evrything with value has its own momentum shifts affected by different kinds of factors. For bitcoin I think it is also affected by the trust of people in investments on other coins and bitcoin itself.

This is going to happen more in the future because if everyone loves Bitcoin, people are all for it but if every else hates it or is trying to ban it, the sheep will always follow. Yes it all went up like crazy, but if you believe in the fundamentals just wait and see. There is always bad and good news, when the market drops people will point to news items and say that is the reason, but never up front.

The price of bitcoin dropped by 6,600 dollars. I missed the prices in 2017. The market is crazy like a pit. Now what to do. Panic sale is the last option. We are experiencing abnormal days.

this situations is complicated for all cryptocurrency users,, weak hands will always sell their asset in panic sell attack
but the strong hands will always know, what should they do

Just everyone is used to the fact that the rate is constantly growing. I have to ask you to try to stay calm, and it's important for everyone not to panic. After every sunset, there's always a sunrise.

2. Some big big dudes want to enter the cryptomarket. They have to play bearish so that their depo would be bigger.

How can these "big dudes" play bearish if they still not on market yet? You saying that they are the ones creating FUD out there? Interesting.

I hope that today-tomorrow will be the day of the market's reversal. Can't wait until BTC drops to 4500 to cash in))) The price dropped very low and everyone who doubts the crypto has already sold their coins and left. In crypto there were only the most persistent and now the price will go up.

Market dominance of btc is going down from 50% to 30%. The price of BTC is goin down because of slower Tx and expensive fees. But as lightinig network starts to fully implement, the price of btc will rise.

Current market as lot of FUD as well like Korea news, India FM news, China banning foreign exchanges >>>>all this creating a lot of panic hwich is making the market sell off, bloodbath. Also, I think the wall street mney is gearing in. They want to buy cheap.

This trend will continue till March mid. As the Lunar New year ends things will recover swiftly.

Remember in 2018 the market cap will touch 3 Trillion ; just imagine the amount of money to be made.

HODL!!!

BTC is influenced by almost every news item, and in the past few weeks, many negative ones have accumulated.
In addition, the common view is that the market is always falling around the Chinese New Year. Hope this is over soon (after 16.02).

Everyone wants to make good money. Some people have more opportunities than others. Crypto market is manageable. A lot of big and smart money went in the past year. This year there will be even more. If everything falls, then in any case there will be growth. You have to be patient.

The drop in Bitcoin and Ether rates at the beginning of the year by 30% seems to fit into the overall picture of the development of cryptology. In previous years, in January the industry was also under the influence of correction. In the past three years in January, the market lost 38%, 40% and 29%.
The current drop in prices may well be due to the forecasts of the Wall Street analyst, who on CNBC TV predicted a drop in Bitcoin's rate by 70-90% this year.
