Currently there is a lot of FUD due to the recent budget announced in India where the finance minister stated that India doesn't advocates BTC as legal tender and will bring steps to ban it. I have personally sold all my bitcoins just after the announcement was made because I knew that such a thing will happen. However I have not touched my cold storage though. So rest assured this is the golden chance to buy it before it takes another leap.

Except for the fact that he did not say that they will bring in any steps to ban it. How can you say that there is a lot of FUD and then spread it further yourself? He spoke of how it's not a legal tender and they will look to regulate it but also how they believe in the blockchain technology. Saying BTC is not legal tender is no surprise, it is not legal tender in any country and probably never will be.

Definitely one of the things I will not do is sell. My plan is to hold all.
I'm sure the price will start to rise soon.
But I'm thinking about buying more Bitcoin.

I think we will see bitcoin under 9k for sure and it's just a matter of time it seems. This can be good also if you have some cash to start investing into bitcoin or another alt if it suits your plans for the future. In the mean time , relax , try not to watch the charts so often because bitcoin always recovers.

It is still way above the price this time last year, that means I am still in profit even if it falls beyond 9K. I do not easily panic and I am used to this dump every once in a while. I believe this FUD will be over soon and I am in here for long term. I'll invest more if I have money but for now, it is still hodl.

i think i will choose to hold rightnow, we are getting closer to the Lunar new year, the closer we get, the more people will sell their bitcoin to celebrate the new year. i believe bitcoin will suffer the drop drastically in next weeks, so you should hold, don't sell rightnow because after this celebration, bitcoin will rise back again.

My opinion holding is the best way to save our money. Because in current scenario many hackers are theft the cryptocurrency so you should hold your money no one guess your investment.
The another reason is lighting network also affects the cryptocurrency value. These two issues are solve in soon so don't panic your investment

The question at this point in time is very relevant, and I think bitcoin could fall even lower, in this situation, altcoins are very progressive and can sooner or later lower the price of bitcoin very much!!!

So many people who are like you are so afraid of whats going to happen, I bet that you are the ones who invested with bitcoin late when the price was already high. For me and for those other people who invested bitcoin when it was just still less than 5k are not worried that's because we invested early for those people who are invested and going negative please just wait until it goes up again. There is no reason to panic sell the price may fall down but soon it will go up. Just have the patience to wait, bitcoin is a long-term investment if you are looking to have a short-term just invest with altcoins not with bitcoin.

This is just FUD finalized to tank prices, nothing else. It happened time ago with Russia, now it's India, but there is no news in this news, BTC is not a legal currency anywehere and the fact that a government says that is not a news. Just FUD for speculators.

I think the question really depends on individual circumstances. There is no one-size-fits-all answer.

For example, if you are trading bitcoin, ie. using trading tools of your pereference such as say technical analysis, then you would already be relying on the same methodology to make those decisions. Placing a trade now, or whenever, will depend on when you bought or sold and why. If you sold two days ago in the expectation of buying back within a short time frame when the price fell you will have a different perspective than someone who perhaps bought bitcoin say in the early part of last year looking for a longer term investment return.

As another example, the year-on-year price of bitcoin has seen an increase from $1,100 to $8,980 as we speak. So for that investor, the purchase would represent an increase of 716%. So, not bad! A trader who went short on Monday this week, when bitcoin was $11,740 could cash in now for a 3-day profit of 24%. That's great for three days work!

But now let's look at two alternative scenarios. Our longer-term investor who bought bitcoin at the start of 2017 at $14,200 would be looking at a loss of 37%. That's quite a loss and one that might need a stiff drink or two! Or, look at the trader who, instead of going short three days ago, decided to go long in the belief that we were in a dip which represented a "buying opportunity". Well that trader would have bought at $11,740 and, with the price now at $8,980 (in fact it's now $8,950, having lost $40 since I started writing this paragraph, but we'll ignore that - it's small change in the "world" of bitcoin!) will be nursing a loss of 23%.

The one year investor will have a different choice to make than the one month investor. One is up 716% and the other is down 37%. Does the one year investor cash in their substantial gain? Do they wait in anticipation of the market rising? What about the one month investor? Did they have a stop loss to cut their loss or are they letting it accumulate?

Similar questions arise for the two traders. The one that went long three days ago has lost almost a quarter of their trade value; the one that went short has done the opposite. Are they using their technical analysis to guide them. If so, the trader that went long will be implementing their stop loss strategy (surely overdue?) and the one that went short is likely to continue to hold because the technical indicators are showing downward momentum.

So the question of the OP: what do you do now - do you buy or sell - does not have one answer for everybody. It has a different answer for each and everybody, depending on their own individual circumstances. And remember, nobody knows what's going to happen next in the rollercoaster ride that is the price of bitcoin (and cryptocurrency in general) - but one thing's for sure: you can expect the unexpected.

BTC will likely fall a little further, but then slowly move up again. I guess by March we are again in the 14k territory. So I am starting to buy now.

The plan for my current BTC investment is to HODL, as it is still at a much higher price than when I invested. If it dips a bit more, or  back to the price when I invested, I might actually invest a bit more.

Well, I think this is one of the best times to buy more bitcoins. I believe this kind of falling is temporary and will always be. Sooner or later, bitcoin will rise back again. I'm not the one who panic when I see bitcoin's price decreasing but rather I see it as an opportunity to do some smart investment.

The price right now is getting lower compared to january but i still have high hopes that it will still recover its price.So instead of making the market more bloody,let's just focus on investing and buying cheap coins like bitcoins and altcoins for sure these two will totally grow in time.Bitcoin may have an edge over altcoins but i also see some good potentials on altcoins though.

You can do what I do and buy the drop.

Start with an amount of fiat your comfortable losing just like when you gamble. For the sake of example let’s say $30,000. Then guess what you expect the bottom to be, let’s say btc/usd rate of $10,000.

At a btc/usd of $10k you buy $2k worth.
At a btc/usd of $9k you buy $3k worth.
At a btc/usd of $8k you buy $4k worth.
I’m sure you see where this is going now.

Then you sit on the btc and mess with people on the forum while constantly monitoring the btc/usd rate and the news.

Then you see the climb back up happening. You start selling at $11k.

At a btc/usd of $11k you sell $2k worth of btc.
At a btc/usd of $12k you sell $3k worth of btc.
When you get to 25% of your original btc holdings left then you stop selling and try to guess the top based on the slowdown of the frenzy and sell the rest of your holdings.

Rinse & repeat.

Any conclusions about Bitcoin at this time will not be correct. In my opinion, the Bitcoin rate will fall to $ 6,000 and will rise again after the Chinese New Year ends. We can now see a massive impact on the negative news to the Bitcoin as well as the entire cryptos exchange rate on the market. You should buy more Bitcoin to hold if you have money now.

If I sell my bitcoin at this time, I'm sure it is the wrong way because it's not my investment strategy. In contrast to my way when trading, I will sell as soon as possible. Yes the value of bitcoin is below 9K USD and this is the ripe time to buy. Doomsday theories will float around but one should neither believe in them nor get carried away by them. This is the correct time to invest and certainly the prices will shoot high in sometime. Patience. I think this is simply a panic run and people are selling their coins. Once things get stabilized, you will surely find the trend reversing back to ascendance.

This happens in all markets and all stable markets like bitcoin too. It is important to hold your coins and if possible buy a few. No point in selling now in this fluctuating volatile market unless you are a day trader. Every stable market will get through this. There is nothing to panic even if the value touches 7K USD!

People invested in Bitcoin and were very happy when it touched 18K USD mark. And they did not sell. They kept holding and when it fell to 9K USD, people keep becoming more and more apprehensive. By chance when the value soars back again to 19K USD they will still not sell  :)

That is the nature of our mind. We need to make clear analysis of what is happening and gauge our position. A fall and a crash need to be differentiated. Let us hope that bitcoin gets back on track soon.

The worst thing you can do today is to dump your bitcoins because the price is going down. Yes, its really worry me as well, however, I look at the bright side, this is the time to buy and acquire it in large volumes because the price is very cheap. And then just wait for a few months and wait for the rocket to fire.

Its bloody and messy right now, lots of panic selling but you have to remember that is just a minor setback. A lot of governments are not putting a fence against crypto and there's a lot of FUD that cause the price to reverse, however, I can still see that we can overcome all of this and at long term the price could rally and go past 5 digits again.

I agree and I support the idea. It's time to buy Bitcoins, it's time to push it up again... The coins are already cheap, very accessible for everyone, we don't need to see the market dropping even more to start buying and holding again. There are people waiting to see BTC pricing $5000 or even less to start buying, but they should be cautious about it, when the price pumps, it pumps without warnings, those who aren't holding anything will lose a golden opportunity.

This is a rather difficult situation, especially for bitcoin holders at the moment. We need steel balls in order to continue to be in a losing trade and wait for a return to the bull market.
As for me, I think all that was happening now is a natural process, which, in addition, was accelerated by market manipulators with the help of forcing negative news and other tricks. Many people have been waiting for this to happen since December last year. With the price falling to 8 or 7K, they will all jump in and buy massively and we'll see the price increasing again to at least 20K. Once all the FUD, created by some people who plan to buy large amounts, is over, cryptocurrencies will be going up again. So, hodl for a longer period would be the best thing to do.

Hold it. There's no way that the price will face a sudden downfall, there will be gradual drops though. This is the phase that btc is currently traveling in. As long as the stakeholders hold the price will shoot up, panic selling is really foolish and can negatively influence btc's growth.

I just sold a small portion on 9K only to buy soon more. I'm HODLer since early July @3.2K$ so no plans to sell at all. If I sell is just to buy more :)

I can barely sit down at this moment because this roller coaster is driving me crazy because i can't really tell the reason why it is always going down to such extent. I pray that we can see some recovery very soon.

Do not panic, it's better to read comments of other users who say that the price will rise - do not sell your bitcoins.

It seems to me that restraining the course of bitcoin and even not eliminating its shortcomings is done artificially and deliberately. Someone wants the bitcoin holder to sell them more. This, in turn, suggests that in this case we will soon see the next big price breakthrough bitcoin. So now it is worth keeping your bitcoins and expecting a high point.

Definitely hold and buy more, for a long time bitcoin has been going up and never stopping and this made its high price a problem for those who wanted to invest in it, so with the price going down right now this might be the only chance that we can get to invest more into it, this is just a minor setback, the calm before the storm, Bitcoin will start all over again and going up real soon so keep calm and just hold because selling will only make things worse and won't help the market.

There is no need to panic about declining Bitcoin price. It was predictable that the price of Bitcoin would go down after huge grows for a few months. I guess it's high time to buy the dip. Bitcoin should start growing again in the next few days but don't quote me on that. It was a good time to invest in altcoins but now it might be dangerous to do anything.

I prefer to buy it because in the future there will probably not happen again such a drastic decline. I prefer to take advantage of the current market conditions to collect and buy as much bitcoin as I can today. The possibility for bitcoin prices to rise is still wide open because bitcoin has not been entirely mined by miners. Hopefully, this plan can run well and produce an advantage in the future.

This is the main reason why cold blooded whales are making money today. Do you believe that people are selling now to leave the crypto scene? Half of them is selling because they are getting ready to buy cheaper, stack up on more coins and wait for another pump. The other half is panicking because, just like you, they don't know what's going on and follow the crowd instead of thinking themselves.

A lot of people are saying that the price of bitcoin is going down because people are panicking. But I don't think we know this. Maybe the price is going down because of traders cashing in positions they took out before all the unsuspecting piled in. So those traders will be making substantial profits from those trades whilst the later investors will now be entering loss territory.

One other thing. Quite a few comments saying with quite some conviction that the price will "go to the moon" or at least start climbing again quite rapidly. But again, we can't know this. The price might go up. It might be $15,000 tomorrow or next week. Maybe even $20,000. But equally it might be $6,000. Or $4,000. Or it might end up where it is now next week or next month or beyond. We don't know. We can't know because this is uncharted territory with too many unknown players in the market.

It's probably true that herd behaviour led to, or at least contributed to, the meteoric price rise during 2017. Admittedly, it was phenomenal. And it's probably true that there's an element of herd behaviour in the reversing trend we're seeing now. But we can't know where it's going. I wouldn't want to bet on it and so I'm going to sit on the sidelines for a bit until I feel a bit more comfortable to trade again.

It might just be a saving grace.

If you really want to buy, it's actually a good price, but I think bitcoin will dump again, and fall to 8000$ in february. Then, the bounce back and will rise to the moon, expecting 20 000$ target and more. So, my advice (for what it costs I'm just a random member), wait few days if you want to buy because it will dump again. Buy now if you think it will not dump more.

There's a saying or more of a trading fact that when a lot of people set up at a level to get ready to buy because they think this would be a good point, the price rebounds much earlier before that. It happens because people always try to outsmart one another. You think 8k would be great, but after a time you analyse it again and come to a conclusion that there are many orders at 8k and you have to move a bit higher to catch anything. You go to 8050 and they see it and start to pile up in front of you and so on.

The standard situation for the market during this period of the year. So it was at least 4 years in a row. And a huge role is played in the fall of prices for crypto currency (not only for bitcoin) Chinese New Year. Asia is a quarter of Bitcoin's market. Suffer until the day back after the holidays! It's about time HODL or to buy. Soon everything will go up!

Really hard to know what to do. Usually on these blood baths the best option is to buy the dip, since the price is getting oversold on every single time frame. It's never a good thing to sell more when this is happening, because the "dump" will end, and is normally followed by a bounce. It could be a small one, 5% or 10%, but from a trading point of view, if you buy now and get 5% to 10% profit, you can then sell the same amount you bought, and you just kept your bitcoins (because you didn't sold your stack), and also increased your cash (because you bought more and sod them again after the bounce).

This is already being anticipated before which it can really possibly hit or break that 9k support and now we are seeing below in these ranges not only on bitcoin itself but also on most altcoins in the market we are seeing reds now but still we should not still be on doubt because it will go up sooner or later the best thing to do now is not to sell but rather buy cheap coins and wait for long term for profits.

This makes me relief about it. As of now i am keep holding my bitcoin that are left at my wallet. I tried not to see it because it makes me frustrated and makes me feel down. My mistake was not see the chart of every year statusbof bitcoin. I buy bitcoin on dec when the value was so high but now it makes me feel so horrible because of its decreasing its value. So now, i've learned a lot and keep on holding it so that i can retrieve of what my loss.

We are witnessing a massive anti-bitcoin campaign. Obviously, the banks and governments have a big fear of the monetary freedom that would provide decent life and independence to ordinary people. But, they can't stop the future.

3 weeks of FUD news, after a december full of promising news and hype, we are waching the aftermach.

It was predicted that it would fall at least until 8000$. Now my feeling is that it will drop even until 5000$ or so, even though not in one move. We'll see. Not very funny for holders though.

There are several factors and fuds that affect people's decision to sell bitcoin or panic sell, it's a normal thing as it happen all the time in cypto world.
If you are an holder, don't let the market influence your decision, if you are a traders, this is a good thing as bitcoin will rebound and give more profits in the next few days.

Personnaly I don't think so, you're too negative, 5000$, even in multi move, will be a desaster and a huge dump. Don't forget the price already dumped a lot, I think we're in the end of theses bads news. We've got a lot of successfully FUD, people try to make panic each other, and I think in reality it isn't to forbide bitcoins, it's to buy it cheaper. Of course, it's only premonition, we're in a unknown situation and nobody can predict the future.

I am holding my coins I believe that Bitcoin is going to rise even higher. In addition to all of this I live in India and the government is trying to then this currency yes because they do not think it is legal and it is making import and export of foreign currency without any government permission. For now, government has implemented some income tax in order to minimise or to track how much Bitcoin transacting inside India. But soon they will take heavy steps. I am going to hold my coins until I find other way or the price gets normal.

Actually, 5000 is considered by some as the equilibrium value : the ones who have the most market power and are most dependent on the BTC price are the professional miners. The current cost plus some "normal business margin" brings the value to about 5000. I.e. at this level the miners would become active to prop up the market and prevent it dropping below. This would however mean that the market confidence would be pretty much eroded. Even if that happens, however, BTC would likely start rising again, but rather slowly, until another bubble emerges (which certainly will).

In fact even with all this blood bath I have seen comments from pure bitcoin holders and they are telling this is just another thing that happened before.
I looked at the graph again and I was shocked that it was really the same.

Exactly. All that matters is for the corrected low to remain above the startup point which is somewhere above the $5000 mark at this time. If we stay higher the uptrend gets confirmed and we launch another pump from this point. With the pumps getting exponentially bigger we're bound to at least touch $20k again.

Everyone says to learn from the history, but who said that history must repeat itself? Bitcoin is not in the same position it has been a few years ago, it has gained huge media attention and governments want to either end the party to enjoy a cut of the shares. This can affect bitcoin dramatically as institutional revenue is not something the market has dealt with before.

This was expected and called out countless times.
After the bull run that was november/december there had to be a big crash.

Those who truly believe in BTC's futures wouldn't be affected by these kinds of dips. Instead we should be more excited since this gives us a chance to buy BTC at a bargain price.

It's normal and it's a yearly cycle, Yes wait bitcoin to make a huge pump. i'm buying and holding it and sell afterwards. The point here is we should keep this treasure when it falls deep and buy more bitcoin when dip.

We cannot judge the future based on the past or present trends of the bitcoin currency, there might be huge traders and at sudden demand may raise and coin value hit the moon as it is ranked first place in the crypto currency. We may feel such FUD's which is common in dealing with the currency but we cannot give an assured information.

Works every time right? Like come on. At what point do you not think, well China is "banning Bitcoin" for the 5th time... Then "someone" pumps them up again... Hm.. Could it be... THE CHINESE?! Omg, I just love that there was so much FUD that we dropped about 60% from the ATH. I can earn some more and know that we're going to bounce back in a couple of weeks. Bitcoin is still good to buy even the price goes dip. If i have many $ i will rather buy bitcoin and other altcoins.

Time to buy and hodl. The fud will be over and price will be up again, to the moon once again as what happened last year. It will be back much stronger. in my opinion it is better to always update in the news market .. this slump because of its ban on the circulation of virtual currency in a large country like in china, south korea. this is a warning from some investors

this is the best time to buy more btc while it is dump and wait for the right time to goes up again and recover. Thats why bitcoin is so unpredictable.

You will be kicking your own ass, if you sell now. People who have bought coins at $18 000 will just have to wait for the price to increase or they should buy more now and sell when there is a increase. Bitcoin is going up and down within a margin of $500 per day. If you buy a coin, when it dips and you sell it when the price goes up again, then you can make +/- $500 profit per coin/day.

That will chip away any potential loss, from the $18 000 or even $19 000 coins you had bought, if you are not willing to wait.

The value of bitcoin comes entirely from people's confidence, which I think is only a short term.

Till now there is no sign of reversal pattern from bitcoin.Bitcoin is under 9000$ i think it will consolidate between 7500$-9500$ for longer period of time.

Selling is not good thing to do no and believe that even if bitcoin comes to over 10k again this will not be good option for many. Most bought coins on bigger price and for that matter patience will be crucial for this. If some see temptations to cover the lose it will be major blow for bitcoin price. Can't say how will price recover, only question is for how long it will take this time to recover and will bitcoin price cross over 30-35k like many predict for this years end.

Yes price of bitcoin is going to increase not after some year but even this year so we will have to hold bitcoin and not to sell at the low price because it is said by some of experts that this 2018 is the best year for bitcoin, if price of bitcoin is low then it is going to increase till the end but we will have to wait, 19k is small thing for bitcoin because sometimes bitcoin use to increase more than 50k so waiting is the best option right now.

Read some articles that recent price going down is cuz North Korea hackers were responsible for this. They attack most of Asia exchanges and took huge amount of the money in crypto. Also this morning i see that price is recovering price change from yesterday is almost 1000 dollars in price. This may be sign that thing are going to be ok again.

Yes I agree witj you, I think this is one of the best times to buy more bitcoins. I believe this kind of falling is temporary and will always be. Sooner or later, bitcoin will rise back again. This morning bitcoin has traded above $9000 and had fallen again, there is more chance for the price to go lower than $8000 but it will recover soon, all price decline were due to FUD and most institutional investors are staying back, this can also be another reason for extreme volatility of cryptocurrencies.

Yep, I don't think this bear market has anything with any Korean, Chinese or any other fud - it's a whale game. If you want to find a single culprit for this dip, try with the CME and the newly introduced Bitcoin futures (https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/15/bitcoin-futures-are-coming-to-the-cme-heres-what-to-expect.html). If you somehow manage to get their due dates, you will be able to "foresee" the future and to know the precise date of the market recovery :-) Cryptocurrency market is too shallow for the seriously rich players, it's cheaper than some single companies, they can do whatever they want with it. There is no need to worry about anything. Bitcoin has never really been stable, and probably never will be with how much speculation there is going on. Current situation isn't any different.

The next target is maintaining the $10,000 mark and have it function as base level. As long as that isn't the case, I don't see any reason to speculate about higher levels, especially without there being any bullish indicators.

Short term speaking it is and will likely remain a tricky market. Long term speaking current levels are a solid buy, just like how buying Bitcoin for long term hodling purposes has always been the best option.

Patience and firm dedication is needed to hold though fud and other drama.

There are some gaps on the price charts. This all happened when bitcoin went to $20k from $6k. The gaps will be filled one by one and bitcoin will reach another ATH point soon.

The OP is not predicting the exact price or charts,he was just talking about the price during Feb 1 which went well below $9 k and recovered and if you look at the current market situation,the price of bitcoin recovered after the dump and now we are yet having a bit of a correction after a good movement,i am not exactly sure why the market is going down,but i am sure it will recover .

The fact is that many people are already giving up the market, because they have suffered some setbacks and for investing in Bitcoin a $ 15,000 badge. Everyone was swept up by the period when Bitcoin showed its maximum value at $ 20,000 and so many users rushed to buy Bitcoin as soon as the price dropped slightly.

Yes, a lot of people were 'punished'. But there is another one reason - bitcoin futures on CME Group and Cboe Global Markets. For me it is the main reason for no-go into bitcoin market again, they are very 'smart and experienced guys' and now they have a power on this market - market of newbies in trading. That operators can make many unexplained movements in the market and manage it as they want only coz they have a lot of money and experienced brains. And I think a lot of other funds entered this market at the 6-8k$ price, there were huge volumes at that levels on all popular exchanges. And I can assume that bitcoin market will never be the same as a several months ago.
Of course I don't want to share fud and panic here, just saying what I think about the situation. And in any case except bitcoin we have ETH and ICO markets, the last one is very risky but sometimes it gives many hundreds of percents in a couple of weeks-months. Cheers guys!

those who are giving up market they are not well aware of bitcoin rise and fall and they will surely regret in coming time because in bitcoin price rise only in hours and people who devote their money to it they believe in bitcoin.

I also hope it will recover soon, if the price keeps on crashing we can see another batch of investors who will panic sell their holdings which will result to further crashing in price.  I just hope it is a correction and not another downtrend for Bitcoin.

Last February, 2017 bitcoin price was going so deep, if I'm not wrong their price are fall down up to $8K to $8.5K but due to controversial announcement of some countries to banned bitcoin together with the other altcoins in their country. However, due to good help of this coin into the economics of respective country they were unbanned it, exempt to China. Until now this country was not yet opened to tradings and other jobs regarding crypto currencies. But other countries supports and push bitcoin together with the other crypto currencies to continue and survive for the future.

I know all of us are expecting more towards crypto most especially for bitcoin, and it is mentally affect our life everyday.  People were not expecting such huge dip happen last year after reaching its ATH that almost touching $19k. Some of us really get hurt especially those people investing bitcoin at such time and they totally get bother cause until now the price is just almost half.

Bitcoin is less than 9k price today but i think this is a good time to buy more and hold more if you see today only weak hands people are selling there bitcoins and they are panicking and rust selling there bitcoins even they lost some of there money because of the lower price.

As its market price goes down deeper, i will probably hodl it and see if i can buy some strong altcoins. This is also really a good chance for us to buy strong coins with dropped prices. But sometimes, it's hard when these altcoins dropped their priced and you don't have money left to buy them.

The opportunity to buy strong coins is cheaper, but their discount rate is faster than bitcoin. Each person has different opinions, they are both potentially risky but I think both are good choices.

I think the movement of bitcoin is not only from the demand or supply is very limited but the current bitcoin movement seems in because of the good news and bad news about bitcoin.
