Hello guys...

I have diversified my portfolio to about 25 different cryptos which were worth about 7000-8000$ just before the bitcoin crash came and I am wondering whats the exact reason behind this, when or will it recover (and so the alt coins I hold, don't have any bitcoin).

Why do almost all alt coins crash because of the bitcoin crash or correction?

My portfolio is worth only 4000$ atm.

All I can say is just hold, we do not know when it will recover but I am sure if you continue to hold you will never lose.
That is why the crypto investing is called a high risk is because of this kind of situation, think that the entire marketcap had significantly grow and this time we have witness a lot of bad news which some media have exaggerated it, don't listen to them, do your own analysis because whales are doing everything to buy cheap coins before they will start to pump this again.

I'm also a beginner, but as what i have known about bitcoin, it is all about privacy control by the founder, talking about price also, it is ordinary that sometimes reach to higher level and it also dramatically going down, being a new in these industry, we must learn and adopt the cultural movement and decision from the top or the organizer decisions.

Basically it comes down to most things being listed for sale in Bitcoin prices. If your altcoin drops from 250 Satoshis to 200 Satoshis, it's not really that big of a deal and could recover. When you're looking at it from a fiat perspective though, 250 Satoshis 48 hours ago and 200 Satoshis now is a 50% difference in price.

What I'd suggest is choose a coin that you're trying to accumulate more of (Bitcoin) and just follow the market with the value of that coin. If you're up to 300 Satoshis, you're up. The fiat value really doesn't matter because these are all short term gains and losses. Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are here to stay so HODL and don't let the big swings bring you down. We've dropped 90% before, then blew past that ATH by 1500%. We'll be fine.

I'm also a beginner but i'm willing to teach help other. I will teach them the basic that i know.

I'm a beginner so i can't teach to another beginner if only i am not a beginner i would like to share some knowledge on how to earn profit through any crypto coin as long as i have knowledge of it.

I believe bitcoin will increase that's why I keep purchase bitcoin every month and keep hold it rather than short term trading.
It's quite risky if you trade bitcoin in short term because the value still too volatile.

Overall if you do not ready to lose, better stay away from bitcoin trading !

All I can say that if you are a long term investment, it takes time before you will earn and some of altcoins are for long term investment because their prices are too slow to rise up. Just wait till you know that you have profits before you sell your coins.
I think bitcoin price as of now is increasing and the price of it does not affect to the price of altcoins.

i am a bit confused on the sudden drop in the prices because I am also a beginner and have seen this kind of drop in prices for the first time. FRom what I have seen before, bitcoin's price dropped and then just a matter of 2 weeks, it gained momentum and have recovered  and jumped to double the value.
iT made me, doubt for a while if I am going to pull out or hodl bitcoin, i have hodled for 2 weeks thinking that bitcoin will recover, but i lost so much money that is why i pulled out. nonetheless, i will just put in more when value starts to increase again..

What i think is that most investors are now giving preferance to altcoins, there are a lot of altcoins in which some are good for long-term and some are worthless, people prefer to split their money without researching on it and then end up with loss.  Now as you are in loss, you shouldn't be panic selling, just hold until they markets come to stable

For now there is not much to explain why there is a decline in Bitcoin prices today because as we know that Bitcoin is fluctuating, which means that the price is determined by the market that can change at any time, so we no longer feel surprised by the current situation, but I try to calm down and try to hold some of my Bitcoin until the price is stable. because I believe the price of Bitcoin will be stable again.

Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency is a stock in the market which means that even some factors really do vary because it is dependent on this factors to stay afloat and stable and as there is constant battle on cryptocurrency the prices of these coins can vary almost rapidly in a daily basis. Most cryptocurrencies except for Bitcoin itself (obviously) have their value tied relative to Bitcoin. Furthermore, over the course of the past month, there has been a constant selling out of people from the crypto scene. Now, when these people who sell their Bitcoins have most of their earnings in bitcoins, Bitcoin's price remains decreases but the value of other cryptocurrencies stays the same relative to Bitcoin. However, if those people who are moving to fiat actually have portfolios consisting of other cryptocurrencies, not only does selling off decrease the price of Bitcoin itself as an intermediary to fiat, but it also decreases the value of that cryptocurrency relative to Bitcoin. Arbitraging usually means that these differences are usually reconciled to market price for all trading pairs, but those are the basics of the trading mechanics.

Here is the problem people like you with money always buy first before even having a plan, now that cames crashing you will be panicking and questioning everything here in the internet. Why not before buying something you must study first and have a plan in order for you to become independent. Also seeing that your portfolio contains 25 Cryptocurrencies shows that you are vulnerable to hype as you are buying a lot of coins, I can't even call it as diversifying anymore as you must only concentrate 3-5. 25 Cryptocurrencies is a lot to handle even for a experienced trader.

you are losing money because you thought you were diversifying and you were misled by pretty words like "portfolio". sorry to say this but you are a bag holder.

altcoins have never been good investments to begin with. they are highly manipulated and only used for short term pump and dumps. investing in them is not diversification in your investment. investing in them should only be used for short term and profit making.

there may be 2 or 3 exception coins (none of them are in top 10 though) but exception don't make the rules.

It was like a disaster every year when January comes bitcoin price is so low maybe the price will return in March. All coins are affected, because bitcoin is use to measure the value of any other alternate coins and use it to buy and sell on trading so the price always based on Bitcoins. Just hold your coins it might triple your profit for the following months or buy bitcoins also its time to buy cheap.

This is a very good topic to be discussed since i am newbie also to this bitcoin. I hope i could read some important details on alt coins and how to convert his alt coin to bitcoin. Maybe you should just hold it for now and dont get start panic. This isn't the first time, so stay calm and continue holding for sure you will never lose. Obviously you know nothing about investing or trading and you are getting worried about it. In investing you should know its fundamental basic and its risk. You should accept the risk before you step on to it. And remember invest what you can afford to lose.

What I understand is in cryptocurrency investment is full of risk because of this kind of situation. One of the reason is when bitcoin falls the value majority of the cryptocurrency follows. But if you are holding the best crypto i believe this panic stage can not stop the future of it, understanding more about how good is yours is more helpful to make you at peace. So I suggest that if you believe your crypto, just hold and face the risk of reality, and let the patience with you.  :)

if everything is crashing, the best way to do is hodl and wait.  if you believe in your portfolio, patience is the best tool for you to gain profit.  There are several reasons why Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency goes down, but once this were all cleared, they will definitely soar up.  Don't make a mistake done by lots of weak hands. 

we should understand the beginner if still they don't know what they are doing we should explain to them slowly how to earn a lot of bitcoin then suddenly they will learn how to do it and how to join a campaign.and just be patience for waiting for your coin.

If you've invested in some decent crypto currencies like Ethereum, Litecoin, NEM, IOTA, Dash etc. and of course in Bitcoin then don't worry you'll feel much better in several weeks.
Investing in new cryptos which promise you 100x rise in a short period of time is another thing. Those kind of investments may be gone forever and there's nothing can be done about it.

Bitcoin is in the correction phase. And most altcoin's USD value is based from the Bitcoin price. Everytime bitcoin is down their USD value also drops. If you are going to study the charts of BTC and Altcoins along with their BTC and USDT pairs. You will discover that they are related to each other.

you are investing in some kind of alt it is very good because you have a lot of money but I think the stock market is the same and the market stability depends on the investors, and why you leave bitcoin in my opinion this is the best coin and harganyapun according to the stock exchange board currently get Top rankings, it's very sad if you've left bitcoin because according to the news after the Lunar New Year bitcoin will return stable and rise sharply.

This is mostly the same how I feel when Im just a beginner years ago and based on my experienced like in this kind of scenario when almost all coins are in huge decline I have to quickly sell it and convert into cash which is very wrong thats why I advised just keep holding it in your wallet dont ever sell your coins which you bought at a high price just wait, relax and everything will be alright.   

What we saw during December was a huge price rise across the whole market. It was clearly unsustainable, and the question was how far it was going to rise before it eventually fell back - but it was definitely always going to fall back hard. Just look at the historic price charts. Every mammoth rise has been followed by a fall.

So the market in early Jan was just waiting for an excuse to correct. There were a slew of negative mainstream news articles, particularly from Asia, and these were enough to trigger the fall that everyone knew was coming.

For people who have been here a long time, even just early 2017 like me, even if the market fell 75% we would still be in profit - but this was not the case for all the newcomers who came into crypto during December. These were the people who fuelled the immense price rise, and these were also the people who would be in a loss-making position the minute the markets fell.
So I think once the fall started, a lot of these people decided to panic sell and cut their losses, which caused the price drops to be much steeper than would otherwise be the case. And then experienced traders could see what was happening and took advantage, selling their coins and buying back in at a lower point. Again this activity caused more price drops.

Just my opinion, but I think panic selling by newcomers cutting their losses was the main reason that the fall was so steep.

Why do alts crash when bitcoin crashes? Because alts are linked to bitcoin in trading pairs, and because bitcoin is much bigger than other coins, and bitcoin news dominates the whole market.
When will it recover? I would say look at price charts over the last year, not just the last week or month. You will see a clear pattern.

     Oh well, everyone wants the easiest way for everything right? lol. But, seriously though, you really have to do your own research so you can really understand things better and not rely on other people's opinions that you can never be really sure about since you barely even know the people behind those advises or opinions. But hey, it's all good man, I feel you, sometimes we just don't have a lot of time to spend in studying about cryptos since we all can be busy at some point since we all have jobs and chores to do and others even have to study lessons from school on top of these since they are students. So I will give you a tip. My advice besides from doing your own research is to always be patient enough and greedy with the right moderation. It is important that you have these and can completely control them since these traits can either get you thousands of profits or thousands of losses. Although I agree that this will not be easy at first, but with experience, you will eventually get better at controlling these traits(of course, considering that you also give time to studying about cryptos). And the most important thing? Do not fcking give up just because you failed on your 1st, 2nd, or even 5th try because there is absolutely not a single successful person in any field that has never experienced failing even once.

     Oh, and by the way, on bitcoins or in any altcoin that I truly believe in, I set a realistic desired amount of profit and immediately sell when I reach that mark and don't let my greed make the best of me. I really stick to it. And when there's a dip, even when I haven't taken profits yet because the price didn't reach my mark, I buy more. And when the dip goes deeper, I then buy more. And this continues until the prices get to the mark of my desired profit then back again with the cycle while gradually increasing my capital every cycle. The increase of capital of course, depends on the amount of profit I have acquired since sometimes price hypes are totally unpredictable and can go way over your mark in just hours of sleeping. Keep in mind that this approach I am doing is only done when I still have spare funds that I can afford to lose on my investing plans. Man, I hope that you are also investing funds that you can really afford to lose. But hey, that's your money so whatever you do about it is completely your choice. I just hope that you really make the right decisions.

It's easy to say patient, but hard to do. Six months is not a short time. I experienced the same thing.
one thing to do is buy back at the base price and with large capital so that the next increase will cover the highest purchase.

It is just correction. Why and how did you choose your 25 different cryptos? Why so many? How do you plan follow the development and news about them?

Crypto currencies is a market of fluctuations, that's one thing you need to know and understand first before getting into investment. Not because you heard investment in cryptos makes a lot of profit will only means you can also have it without experiencing this pumps and dumps. Majority of cryptos will soon recover after this drop but I would suggest don't make investment to coins you didn't know and understand well to prevent loss on your part.

Same as you, I'm also a beginner. All I can say is don't get affected by the fall of prices, if you will study the market and it's fall last year it's almost the same but a huge increase rate occurred.  It's just normal in every trading business. so dont get disappointed, instead study the market well, if you have more capital buy because now is the best time to purchase.

I'm a beginner, at least I keep learning from the internet and add knowledge about bitcoin and around the world of criptocurrency. saving me for beginners we live alone and stay afloat to invest follow the existing developments, do not easily affected by the news that is not certain the truth. To my point of view, nobody can predict what happens next as we dont understand the market well now.
But I suppose crypto currencies are all the venture investment with high volatility, so you should stay stable with emotions and wait.

All beginners that they need to know about this forum and bitcoin, rules and regulation was in here it always on the top of the forum. The important to know for those beginner was always follow the rules and regulation if you don't like to banned and have a red mark but you should research to get more information for the additional knowledge.

When we are long cryptocurrencies, we are also long BTC. This is because all cryptocurrencies traded on the exchanges are priced in BTC. So when BTC drops, everything will drop especially when you are viewing your "portfolio" in terms of fiat e.g. USD.

But if you are looking at your currencies in terms of BTC, the drop may not be so bad afterall.

Anyway you should review your "portfolio" as it could be too diversified. 25 different currencies is a lot to manage and is not focused enough to profit when those few good ones rise in value. A holding of about 10 could be a better sized portfolio.

Research hard and understand which are those that can give u the best returns. Dun be caught in the FOMO mentality and spread your investments so thin that you gain peanuts when the bull comes for the selected few.

Many bad news about bitcoin spread. I suggest you to convert all your cryptocurrency into bitcoin because this is the safest coin. I don't know how long the negative market condition continuing but it will recover. There are many countries that start to embrace bitcoin and blockchain technology so don't worry.

As the price of bitcoin goes down, many are expecting that the price of altcoins would go down as well because most of the altcoins are traded with bitcoin as base coin so to protect themselves from further losses, they would decide to sell their coins and maybe trade it with fiat to buy back lower and for those who couldn't take it would just totally leave the crypto scene.

We had seen that at the start of the year, the price is continuously declining and many are anticipating it because of the sudden rise in the previous months so for those who have been in crypto for a long time, they have already cash out and for those who just entered recently experience their first heart break with crypto so panic sell happened and fear was sustained because bad news come altogether that's why people have bloody portfolios.

Just think of it as a sale and buy more so that you can average down or if you don't have funds anymore then you can hold and wait for it to go up since it is slowly recovering.

Like any other business, you will not always get a profit in bitcoin, preferably before deciding to invest you learn the market first, and do not put your money too much if you are not sure. if you do not want to lose, you can hold it, but to answer how long you can keep it, even bitcoin creators will find it difficult to answer. my advice you should be extra patient and busied yourself with other things until the value of bitcoin and altcoin back up

 You first must know cryprocurrensies are very unstable and if your portfolio is downing you will hodl your potential altcoins. I think first of all you must growth your portfolio until you earn more profit. If you want you can buy my favorite coins (VEN, PLR, MNX).

  always if you sell when the price is dropping,  so if you don't want to lose some of your profits you must HODL! and wait to sell when the price is roceketed to prevent loses.  Jus monitor the market graph because the price is so volatile, learn some  technical analysis. 

Good thing you have a diverse portfolio which exactly what an investor should have. Bitcoin correction causes its market price to drop down deep causing cryptomarkets to crash in red color. As bitcoin continuously decreases its market price, it also drags the altcoins' market price since these altcoins have a pairing with bitcoin. That means when the value of bitcoin goes down, so the value altcoin also drops.

Not only you are facing such types of problems but many people are facing the same thing , here I am also the case of such trading where I am much down that what should I started , I have lost about 80% of the worth that was in mine investment of the bitcoin and altcoins investment .
Here currently the market is dumping due to some negative news and rumours ( people feeling panic and selling Thier altcoins as well bitcoin)
So don't get panic wait for 20-30 days to recover the market at the base price and then enjoy your trading , either if you will take tension then still nothing will happen at any moment , so wait and keep patience currently .

the first thing that you should know is no one will know when or will it recover and what we can do is only keep trying to make a profit. the altcoin crash is happening because people selling their altcoin to have bitcoin and they don't think too much about their loss. all they want to do is have bitcoin and then they can sell the bitcoin no matter the bitcoin price is fall or not. but for some people, they know that if bitcoin price is fall, some of the altcoins will fall too and the rest will try to survive and even the price will increase. so related with your case, I think you can keep it and hold your coins and if any of your coins get an increase, I think you can sell it and only sell if you see that you can make a profit. don't be afraid because the altcoin will keep increase after bitcoin fallen.

It is good to be helpful to others, so should everyone do, rather than insult others because of little knowledge, we should help to learn more and give them the opportunity to learn. it's easy to earn when you are very serious about what you are doing, and great opportunity for biginners is the collapse of the bitcoin price because you can buy at low prices and wait to re-raise the bitcoin's value price to get big profit and take note just be patience.

It is true and I am also a bitcoin investor but it will not be good not to have any money and getting in different crypto currency, if you are having money and you want to grow it you will have to have good knowledge about bitcoin so you then invest at the time of high price and wait long, own it is time to stock bitcoin because in future it will be hard to buy bitcoin and the stroke market of bitcoin will be high as well so it is opportunity you should use it.

The only reason why people suffer loss even after investing in world’s best investment bitcoin is their fear. Due to this, they sell out bitcoin and regret later. What I despise the most is blaming bitcoin for this. Bitcoin is not responsible for anyone’s loss.

Not all alts are down, if you are referring to dollar price well you might be loosing because alt coins are depending on bitcoin price and not really into dollar. look if a coin is equal to 1000 satoshi and a thousand before is worth a dollar if bitcoin fell 50 percent then a thousand satoshis will be 50 cents now. even your coin didn't fall it will reduce to half the value because of the fall of bitcoin.

That's a great idea because I'm a beginner and have not understood the procedure in bitcoin. I do not yet understand a very complicated trading language. As long as what you are holding are QUALITY cryptos, then don't worry, they will recover.
There's several reasons the crypto markets have crashed right now, and its not just cryptos, traditional investment markets are also experiencing a little 'crash'.

Everyone's portfolio is taking a beating at the moment, its not just yours.
The whole market has shrunk by over 50% so pretty much everyone is feeling it right now.

As they say in crypto, if you can't handle the 50% losses then you don't deserve the 1000% gains...

Would be great if TS presented the list of currencies he's invested in to give any specific advice. But regarding the topic, I believe you just must focus on Ethereum and some coins that have a good background and which teams works on a product development not on it's popularity. Sooner or later they will give good gains, I think. And noone can say when this correction will end.

All I can say now is that you should Hodl! I am suggesting to you that you should rest you mind now about the prices and stick on buying on other potential coins and still hodl until bitcoin and eth recovers. You know that why its all in bearish market now? Because they are all depends on bitcoin and if bitcoin fall we must expect downfall on alts also. So, yeah stay there. HODL!

Actually buddy, to make you understand clearly most crypto currencies at this moment go down because they are relying the value of bitcoin. Also, the tokens that you have, as it was from the start of ICO projects most investors used bitcoin as their way of investments that's why during the downfall of bitcoin the tokens that you have will aslo down. Well, on my opinion on what you are going to do just hold as much as you want, if you have enough funds on your own wallet.

Actually all this things happen due to some panic selling of some investor,due to continues down of bitcoin in the blockchain and because of this situation,the value all altcoins is affected including your portfolio.the three  factors that contribute why should bitcoin going down is first the declaration of ban  of crypto in the country of  south korea and in the end they overturned ,second is the plan of china to eliminate the trading investment by putting a barrier to not  going inside there country those foreign exchange trading site,and lastly this is the correction of the right value of bitcoin in the exchange market,this all source information i heard is coming from the news from cryptocurrency highlights.

I only can say keep faith in crypto and hold for as long as you can.I don't think you will be disappointed.Crypto currency is falling down for couple of days.But we are sure that the price will pumping up soon.So don't get panic and sell everything.I will suggest you to buy some Btc now because it will give you good profits in future for sure. I saw last year in January bitcoin price was down for couple of days but lastly it gone upto 18K USD.So we should trust bitcoin this year also.

You hold to much many altcoins at your portfolio. My advise is try to consider trimming down your portfolio to smaller number maybe maximum of 10 minimum of 5. This is to make sure that you can properly monitor your portfolio. Altcoins performance are mostly dependent to BTC performance so always expect that any movement of BTC altcoins will follow. Market corrections is the main reason of price movement of BTC.

I think every altcoin drops when Bitcoin drops only because Bitcoin is still seen as a flagman in crypto world.
Although it is not the best platform where to develop projects anymore, Ethereum and NEO are way better for building new applications and Smart Contracts for new ideas or implement into other companies.

It's hard to give a simple explanation for this but I'll try.  Basically, most coins follow the trend with bitcoin, to some degree.  As bitcoin drops, so does everything else.  It creates panic in the market across the board and people sell and get out.  If you still have roughly the same amount of coins that you had back then there's a very strong possibility that when bitcoin recovers so will those coins.  It's not guaranteed, but I'd consider keeping them longer than just a few months and then analyzing it again.

I don't know about crypto currency because I'm mainly new to this. But i think the reason behind why bitcoin crashed recently is because it's a new fiscal year. New fiscal years means improvements are made into the market. This happens alot in stock markets and the trend usually goes down the first quarter then picks up as the quarter progresses. What i suggest is for you to buy when the market is down and sell when it's up then invest again when the market is down.

Yes you're asking about why Almost all of the crypto currency get down because of bitcoin...  I think the very low value of other crypto is not created by bitcoin... Probably bitcoin is not the reason why it is happening in the market...  Maybe because it is normal occurrence in the market...  If one crypto are in a low value maybe some will follow also...  It is happening even in our real market....  If one make their price low a lots als will follow...  It is normal just dont be tried in waiting probably soon the price or value of BTC will rise again...

So when BTC falls all the currency fall more as people sell the altcoins for BTC to convert back to fiat. Also since BTC falls the price of altcoins falls as well creating a waterfall impact and hence the bloodshed.

When I started crypto investment I did it with just Bitcoin and I continued with that till I got perfect and now I’m still investing in about 12 and that includes the best three coins – ETH, BTC, and Ripple.
