Title: [CLOSED] Blue Fury USB Miner, 0.90 or less per unit (Dabs) Philippines/Asia
Post by: Dabs on September 19, 2013, 12:27:38 AM
Group Buy for 2.2-2.7 GH/s Blue Fury USB Miners

I made this because there seems to be an interest in these units in my country (Philippines) so if there are enough local people, all orders will be local.

So I'm making one for at least one or two batches, and also hopefully all orders will be local. International buyers are also welcome. People in other neighboring countries are encouraged to order here, so we can all have some chips in this region.

If you are closer to the United States, Canada or Europe, please order from the other resellers at their thread:

Since these items will be paid in fiat, they will be charged after I receive the units and before they are sent to you.

Before you order, please do your risk analysis.

If you still want to buy and are fine with the above pricing model, then you will have to participate in the risk and pay your order upfront. If you understand the risk-factors you should clearly understand why I can't afford to charge you later.

Reminder
Only send payments from an address you control (i.e. you can sign with it). If you send from MtGox or other exchanges, you risk loosing your funds since you can't prove you sent them.

Once your order has been submitted please send a PM to me, Dabs

With the following :

Bitcoin Talk Username
Transaction ID#
Shipping Address if you will not pick up. Or one of the locations below if you will pick up.

The buying window opens now and closes when BPMC stops selling units.

Shipment
The units will be forwarded to you as soon as I receive them and you paid the fiat component mentioned above. Delivery within the country will usually take less than a week; overseas will take what it takes. You will be given the option to select shipment method on time and resolve customs specific issues. Also you can pick it up if you are in the Philippines. See below.

Trust
If you are residing in the Philippines, you can come and see me.

If you are here, I have at least 19 pick up locations all over Metro Manila where you can get your chips (meaning no shipping, just pick it up.)

I have a brick and mortar shop in these locations, therefore I can hold your chips there until you pick it up. They are located in:
1. Glorietta 3
2. SM Bicutan
3. SM Manila
4. SM Mega Mall
5. SM Fairview
6. SM Mall of Asia
7. SM Cubao
8. SM North EDSA
9. Festival Supermall
10. Rockwell Manansala
11. Ayala Trinoma
12. SM Calamba
13. Molito Mall Puregold (near Alabang Town Center)
14. Metro Gaisano Mall (near Alabang Town Center)
15. SM Center Pasig
16. SM Makati Annex
17. The Podium
18. Hotel InterContinental Manila
19. Robinsons Place Manila

There are a few more locations, but they're kinda far already. Anyone else will have to ask for shipping by Air21 (FedEx) or LBC or some other courier of your choice. I have some business in Cebu, but I will still have to ship the chips anyway.

GPG ID: 32AD7565 (http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x36E4157832AD7565), OTC ID: Dabs (http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewgpg.php?nick=Dabs)

Communication
I live in the Philippines (TZ: UTC+08) and have an exhausting day-job, which limits me to communicate in my evening hours. So if I did not respond to your email or your post within some hours, it is just because I'm at work. Or I'm already asleep. Please be patient.

additional clarifications

Escrow
I did not offer escrow for a simple reason: as soon as the payments come in, I'll order. No idea how long the chips and units will be in stock, but I would like to act fast.

Actually, you can think of this as a self-escrow. I am facilitating the group buy for Filipinos and other people who are staying in or near the Philippines.

Reservation, Payments
Your order is your reservation. Only BTC payments. There are several local bitcoin traders here. The blockchain is the indisputable proof of your payment, let's use it as is and prevent manual accounting.

WARNING: Difficulty is going up
Difficulty is going up. You better know what you're doing. Once the units are bought, that's it. Either you do this for fun, or learning, or you don't mind getting an ROI of 6 to 12 months on this investment.

Cheers,
Dabs

P.S. Here is a picture of me, from another thread. This is in 2009 when I got married. I am an officer and a gentleman. If you are Filipino or know someone in the military, you can show this picture to them. They won't recognize me, but they will recognize the badges and pins. They might also recognize the background as the chapel or church where I got married inside Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

On the right pocket (left looking at me) is a rifle sharpshooter badge under my name plate.
On the left pocket (right looking at me) are the light armor badge and the field artillery badge.
The yellow egg looking badge is Special Forces.

There are additional pins in my updated uniform this year.

Some portions have been blurred to prevent local insurgents and rebels from making me an assassination target.

I am not going to take your bitcoins, and trust me, no one is going to attempt to take your chips away from me.

Oh, I have a Commission on Elections Certificate of Authority, which means, I am exempted from the gun ban during this election period. I carry a full size 1911 in 45 ACP, always, everywhere.

Okay. I will keep taking orders as long as BPMC has units to sell.

Also, this is the only place I will be selling them. Like the others, if you are within the same region and would like to do ebay sales, that's up to you.

Name has been changed to Blue Fury. We will be using blue lights with this new batch. Same speed. Same hashing power. Still the fastest USB miner in the world. Different light wavelength.

Hi Dabs,

Thanks for putting this group buy together, I'm sure I'm not the only one that's looking forward to getting a couple of these units.

Just wanted to confirm please that you'll have no problem sending some units to Australia? I'll be after twelve of them and am comfortable them being sent International USPS Priority unless there is any pressing reason to ship International USPS Express (I assume both methods are tracked?)

I also assume that my total is 12 * 0.87 + 0.3 Priority shipping = Total 10.74 BTC

I'm rather new to Bitcoins in general and like things to be straightforward. I use Electrum as a wallet and have no idea how to sign transactions and don't want to be messing around with the 'load raw transaction' field for that matter either. I prefer to do business on the basis of trust. I do however, control the address, will obviously provide you with a transaction number and will be in a position to forward the full BTC amount within twelve hours when the banks are open here. I'll PM you the shipping address and transaction details at that point in time.

If there is anything further I should know or am required to do, please let me know either here or by PM.

Thanks very much indeed.

OleOle

OleOle, that is perfectly fine. Your calculations are correct. Don't worry, if you are the first person to PM me about the transaction, it makes perfect sense that you are the one ordering. I put the "signing" requirement to avoid potential issues, but a little common sense and manual processing helps, since nothing will be automated in this group buy.

Correction to name change: We will be using blue colored PCB boards. The lights might be a different color. It's still the world's fastest USB miner.

*edit* Yes, I can ship to Australia. We're not that far from each other.

Excellent. Thanks very much for your reply Dabs, it is gratefully appreciated.

I have just forwarded the 10.74 BTC as mentioned and have also sent a PM to you confirming the transaction details, shipping address and my contact information.

If you have any queries whatsoever, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks very much once again,

OleOle

Confirmed. I will update the 2nd post for all confirmed orders.

I am working with third party who can accept paypal and just forward me the equivalent in BTC. If it happens, please note that the paypal price will be slightly higher than the bitcoin price because of fees. So I suggest you still try to pay in bitcoins, as that's the whole point of it, less fees.

Deadline for first batch delivery is ... supposed to be today. All who are sending payments today or early tomorrow will be included in the first batch.

We are all doing a single run for a whole bunch of chips. I do not know if the Group Buy can be continued after this, but I will update you guys on the status.

If possible this will be a continuous GB as long as we can keep getting orders and they can keep making miners, which my guess is maybe until November or December.

If not possible or not likely, everyone who pays after the next couple of days (maybe 27 or 28) will simply get a refund. If you have a reservation and are just waiting for Mt. Gox, that will be considered. Please PM or post here.

I will give updates on the status of all orders in my second post up there.

Blue Fury is in production, so we are on track for mid October shipping.

You can always order more, as any cancelled or pending orders will be eaten by new confirmed and paid orders, and those in excess of production will be refunded.

All group buys from all over (there are a few others, in case you didn't notice) would total to about 3000 units. So there is room to spare if you can send in the BTC now, or PM me for a reservation.

I'm sure they'd mine faster if this little guy was looking after the units :D

I'm not sure. I don't think so. Those were bundled with the original miners that cost 2.1 BTC each. What I do know, is for larger orders, I'll get an extra unit that I send to you, just in case ... All of them will be tested (by BPMC) before shipping.

@yolo2424, confirmed your order in post #2.

Still accepting orders until units run out. If you don't make it, you can either request for immediate refund, or wait for the next batch. BPMC will inform me if they do another batch of miners.

This first batch is approximately less than 2000 for all group buys / resellers combined. The next batch will probably be a full reel or about 3000 units (2900 working to spec, 100 allowance for failure or below spec).

Well, approaching the middle of the month and I have to say I am very much looking forward to receiving the units soon and seeing how they perform. I'm really going to enjoy learning how they can be manipulated to fine tune the rate of hashing and also wondering just what sort of light show they'll be giving with the LEDS :D

Hello all,

I'd like to report that Dabs has passed my Vetting process for Group Buy Coordinators! To the best of my knowledge, my vetting process is the most stringent and in-depth vetting process available on the Bitcoin Talk Forums.

While I am not an ID expert, I've worked in Professional Information Security for well over a decade. He has sent me multiple photo IDs, a picture of him holding said IDs, and social media links which seem to confirm that he appears to be a well intentioned Group Buy Coordinator, who also appears to have his real name and address on record with a forum vetting agent.

I honestly didn't think Dabs needed this free vetting service since he's a veteran Coordinator - this service is more for new GBCs - but he willingly offered to undergo this free, but thorough, vetting process which helps to reduce scams in our international Group Buy community. I'd PGP sign this statement today but my main PC with PGP software/keys is awaiting a PSU replacement.

Please PM me for any questions regarding the validity of the vetting of anyone who claims to have passed my stringent vetting process for GBCs and/or ASIC miner hosts.

Mahalo!
-DZ

Mahalo!

Thanks DZ!

You guys wouldn't believe it. I had to do 100 push ups in 2 minutes and deadlift 3 times my bodyweight on video.

...
Ok, I'm kidding about the exercise part. hehehehe.

I'm excited too! And I've decided to use FedEx for all international shipments, even if you paid for UPS. They're much closer to me and I can get them shipped to you the day they arrive.

Thanks very much Dabs, that's very generous of you and much appreciated. Hopefully the units arrive soon.

On another note, just wanted to say that I heard about the earthquake in the Philippines and hope that your family and friends are safe. That obviously extends to all the other Pinoys reading this thread too. My neighbours here in Sydney are from Manilla and they've spent the last day or so worried sick, but things seem to be okay for them. Quite a worrying time though, Mother Nature has a way of keeping things in perspective.

Earthquake was 7.2, ground zero was in Cebu and Bohol. At least 90 people are ... ... going to heaven. (Or where ever they deserve to go, whatever you believe in.)

I'm fine. I'm just waiting for the sticks so I can start sending them off.

Good to hear you are fine! Over here its also very stormy but nothing compared to what is going on in the Philipines or Japan.
Bless you.

Yes production started today. We expect to be shipping to customers Thursday and Friday this week and the rest of the units the following week.

The day I get them, they all go out to my group buyers! (or forgive me if I get them in the evening, so I'll ship them the next day.)

I can't wait to get hold of them. This current rally in the BTC price is great to see and makes the timing of the Blue Furies arrival all the more sweeter. Hats off to the BPMC for being able to deliver on their anticipated timing of the product, this is excellent news and a real credit to everyone involved.

Quick question: I'm trying to get everything ready so I can start hashing with them the moment I receive them, so I'm wondering if anyone has any sure fire ways to get them pointed at their favourite pool without any messing around?

I see that the miner I use, BFGMiner, has released a new version 3.3.0 which is BF1/Blue Fury/Red Fury ready, so I'm hoping I can just plug in the Furies into another Orico 10 port hub and they'll hash away alongside the Block Erupters. Am I correct in this thinking? I was wondering about drivers, do the Furies need a separate driver or will the CP210xVCP driver that works for the Block Erupters also recognise the Furies? Any ideas?

Thanks guys, the excitement is building! Looks like the furies will be getting plugged in sometime in about 7-10 days from now, can't wait!  :D

Same here, I would also like to know how to configure everything so when they coming they can start hashing immediately.

Will be using Windows XP. Got the new BFGMiner 3.3.0 which is already working for my Block Erupters.

I think you just have to download and install the drivers and then you are ready to go.

Here are instructions (for windows 7):

1 ) Download Alpha Drivers Here : http://www.mediafire.com/download/819me4zvdju8lyg/bfgminerWin.zip

2 ) Extract and note where the bf1.ini is located in the folder.

3 ) Plug in your Blue Fury Miner and go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and printers

4 ) Right Click on the Bitfury BF1 Device go to Properties > Hardware > Properties > Change Settings > Driver > Update Driver

5 ) Select "Browse My computer for Driver Software"

6 ) Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

7 ) Select "Have Disk", Browse to the bfgminerWin folder and Select bf1.ini

8 ) Select Install and it will give you a warning that the driver is NOT SIGNED. Press okay.

9 ) Now that the Driver is installed navigate to bfgminerWin > bfgminer32

10 ) Edit the #Mine.bat file in Notepad and change everything after "-O" to your own mining pool information and save.

11 ) Double click #Mine.bat and start mining Smiley

Okay, I just got tracking information. It says it will arrive on Monday. So, well, relax, I'll be enjoying my weekend. You all get your miners when I get them after taking a few pictures.

Today should be Halloween, where the young adults go trick or treat, for candies. The kids had their trick or treat events yesterday or the other day, early afternoon.

I'm focusing more on "good" costumes, like angels with wings, wholesome cartoon characters or superheroes. My folks don't like the scary and morbid stuff ... they say halloween is not ... (okay, I'm not getting into any religious debate, so no further comments.)

All Saints, is where everyone goes to the memorial plots or cemeteries and camp out all night, supposedly praying. But everyone is gambling, playing cards, or mahjong, rocking out a concert, and there are tons of fast food joints (mcdonalds, pizza hut, etc.) with tents and mobile carts set up either in the perimeter or actually inside the memorial.

Personally, I do not visit any dead relatives on November 1. We do that on another day, skip all the traffic, and pray that kuya (older brother) and Lolo (grandfather) and Lola (grandmother) understands. We normally schedule it like a week or two later. Or we just visit some other month.

Too many people on November 1. And the police are all over the place; they like to hold onto my guns. (I'm a soldier remember? I always have my firearm with me.)

Sounds like a lot of fun...minus the crowds of course! Me and my brothers always gamble and play cards every time we meet up at family reunions...we live in different countries now so that is not too often unfortunately.

Dabs is the gun for protection or just out of habit? or both?

Dabs is the gun for protection or just out of habit? or both?
It really is more out of habit. Although it disperses big crowds easily. (I'm joking!)

The usual pro-gun stuff follows: better to have it and not need it than the other way around, from my cold dead hands, when guns are outlawed, ... Criminals are looking for victims, not opponents. Being a predator isn't always comfortable but the only other option is to be prey. “He who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.” Luke 22:36. When seconds count, the police are minutes away. ... blah blah blah blah blah.

I don't even think about it anymore, I just carry it. Not because I need it, but so I don't have to think about where I am going because it doesn't matter as much where I am going.

I have also developed the following philosophy: The penalty for illegal possession of firearms is less than death.

Anyway, this is a bitcoin forum, not a gun forum, so... not going there to debate it either.

heheheh...

Okay, I've got good news and not-so-good news.

Good news: package arrived.
Not-so-good: package is not complete. I'm missing some miners.

So, I've contacted some of the buyers to see if they will accept part of their orders first, then the rest will follow as soon as Big Picture sends me the remaining (or I will ask them to ship it directly to you.)

Those who ordered only 1 or 2 miners, you'll get them. By the way, some of you have not yet paid the shipping cost (as outlined in the first post or OP), so I will contact you to make those payments now as I prepare your miners to be shipped to you.

I'm sending out the Blue ones. The Red ones are a different batch I think. I might consider setting up another group buy for that after this one.

All international buyers have their miners shipped (and I reached the cut-off for today.) All local buyers likewise have their miners shipped. If you want the tracking code, just PM, too lazy to dig it up from my bag and they said it will be there in 2 to 3 days.

You may notice that I wrapped your miners in bubble thingies, and cardboard. I didn't have time to make it nice, so I just wrapped them up a bit overkill. I didn't even open the anti-static bag they came in.

When you guys get it, kindly post here if you can. I took a couple of pictures but they are only cell phone quality. I will post them tomorrow, I got tired wrapping your miners at the Fed Ex office.

Now, I'm just waiting for my drugs from the silk road... ... oh wait, they shut down...

Thanks Dabs, great to know they made the cut off today and are probably on a plane heading south to Sydney at this moment. I won't bother asking you for a tracking number, they'll no doubt be here by the end of the week and if they haven't arrived on Monday, then I'll ask for a tracking ID just to make sure that during some layover in Indonesia some Fed Ex worker didn't open the package and is sneakily mining away with them  :D

I'll be sure to post here when they arrive, looking forward to it!

Thanks very much indeed!

I've just had some of my enthusiasm diluted by looking at the Blue Fury support thread. It's getting ugly over there and I hope I don't have to go through the pain that some of those folks are experiencing:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=319419.140

It's not exactly comforting to hear that BPMC are holding back on firmware releases when the majority of people posting cannot even get their miners to hash, it's even less exhilarating to hear people talk of compensation, refunds and threatening to contacting Paypal. I've read all the eight pages of that thread so far, it's a bloodbath with the average 'success' being units that struggle to hash at even the lower end of the estimated 2.2 - 2.7 GH/s if they even work at all.

I'm not going to jump to any conclusions about the product, with luck all our units will hash away in a straightforward manner, maybe it's only a few unlucky people who are commenting on that thread. There's a lot of good brains working on the problems so with luck all the issues will be sorted out very soon.

*crosses fingers and calls out to the All Saints spirits hoping they haven't vanished for another year*

I have received 10 of my miners today from Dabs (I am the guy who has half of their miners missing... there was suppose to be 20, currently waiting for them to be sent from NZ...no tracking number as of yet). Beastlymac and his team have been in communication with me though and i should have tracking info tomorrow.

I have tested this lot before sending them out to my customers. The average mining speed was 2.22- 2.45 with the majority of them mining at about 2.3 gh/s. There were two with speeds of 2.45 gh/s. This is within the range stipulated (2.2 - 2.7 gh/s) so i believe it is acceptable. However one could only hash at 2.18 gh/s. On the plus side, all of them did work. I have yet to find any that were "duds". The speed limitations are because of the bitfury chips which simply vary in quality. I do believe firmware/clocking patches will be released once there are enough of these in the wild. I also suspect that they may hash faster with cgminer (I have heard of this happening before). Once i receive my last 10 i will test them on cgminer and see if there is any noticeable speed difference. I didn't have enough time today as they have been repackaged and sent out immediately to my customers.

Dabs did very well and sent these as fast as he could given all the circumstances. Delivery to me took 1 day and I know Dabs paid for this out of his own pocket.

Here is a video on youtube, it explains how to set them up using bgfminer:

To run many units same time we will need usb hub which one do you recommend ?

Can you also ship the same at some extra cost if so how much ?

@Eternity, I don't have any USB hubs, but you might be able to find some locally. I got some non-powered hubs, but they only work for up to 3 units per USB port they are plugged into.

I am looking at some local power hubs, I will see if they work, but no one uses those things here (except miners.)

When I asked some stores about powered USB, they showed me cell-phone chargers with multiple outlets. That won't work with the miners (oh yes, they will get powered, but they won't mine! hehehe.)

So that about almost wraps up this group buy. Everyone who got their units, kindly leave feedback if that's not too much to ask. And ... to all those others who have not yet paid shipping, kindly pay.

I need to buy some drugs from ... oh wait, they shut down. (old joke, can't resist). heheheh. There's a store here that sells Melatonin pills, anyone got experience with that? (supposed to make you sleep.)

Ok, 12 miners received with thanks :)

I was hoping to post a picture of them working here but having great difficulties loading the driver using the instructions Klintay kindly provided above. Is there any other place that I can access the driver file please? I'm about to post on the support thread as following the instructions for Win7x32 seems to lead me to a situation where access to the driver is denied  ???

Any input you have will be greatly appreciated. I'll keep tweaking, I know this is a live situation with a real group effort to get these Blue Furies working to the max. I can't wait to get them working and hashing, then start messing around with them to really amp up their hash rates! Overclock City here we come! :D

Ok.. Mr. Yolo, just in case you can't read your PMs for whatever reason, Fed-Ex called me. They can't deliver your package for some reason, please PM me with a new address or the miners might go back to me. Or sit in the Fed-Ex office (where an employee might get curious and start mining with it.)

What I do know, is for larger orders, I'll get an extra unit that I send to you, just in case ... All of them will be tested (by BPMC) before shipping.

Well, I hope that everyone who ordered their Blue Furies will soon have their full allocation and then we can look to rectifying the small number of under-performing units that might need replacing. I can quite understand that due to limited numbers being available initially, it was impractical to send additional units to cover under-performing units however from what I can tell reading across the threads on this forum, BPMC have done a great job of getting the units out to purchasers in the last week and have commenced the compensation discussions and the replacement of sub-par units.

It took me a while to get my Blue Furies running alongside my Block Erupters, but that's how it goes with new tech and as I commented on the Blue Fury Support Thread, I think most people would prefer to have teething problems with the units in-hand, rather than slick instructions but no units delivered:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=319419.msg3514708#msg3514708

(there's also a pic of my rig there :D )

At this stage I'm running two instances of BFGMiner, the one on the left in the picture below is for Block Erupters, the one on the right is for the Blue Furies and if you can take a look at BFM 4 you'll see that its hashing performance hasn't smoothed out over time and remains anchored at 0.5 GH/s:

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/1483/6f6g.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/23/6f6g.jpg/)

Some of the other Furies which were hashing at 1.8 - 1.9 GH/s but seem to have edged above 2 GH/s after being run in for 36 hours. Although the rough average of 2.1 GH/s is lower than the anticipated 2.2 - 2.7 GH/s that the Furies were advertised to perform at, there's a realistic possibility that future firmware updates will be able to increase their performance, however it's clear that BFM 4 with 75% hardware errors operating at 0.5 GH/s is a faulty unit and a replacement will be required please.

I hope everyone else who has received their Furies now has them hashing away and they are bringing a smile to your face. With a bit of luck we'll be able to tweak them further to increase their performance but even running at 2.1 GH/s, they are still far superior to the Block Erupters running at 333 MH/s, so I'd like to thank Dabs and all at BPMC for their excellent work. It's great to have the units in hand flashing away :D

Thanks again!

:)

Got my miners today - Thanks Dabs!

I too am having an issue with under-performing units.  The fastest is 2.1 GH/s the others are all below 2 GH/s :(  Hopefully a spare unit or firmware update will fix these!
Also what's happening with the compensation for delays?  Has that been announced yet?

I got the compensation. It is 0.05 per unit.

Please reply if you would like to receive it. (If you don't reply, can I have it?) hehehe.

Okay, seriously, I can send it back to the address you used to buy, which is posted on the 2nd post of this thread. Or you can specify a different bitcoin address by signing a bitcoin message using that address, to have your compensation sent to another address.

If you can't or don't know how to sign, then ... we'll figure something out, but I don't want to send your coins to the wrong address.

For those with defective units, you can PM and we'll work something out, although I appeal to Beastlymac, it would make sense to have them replaced with you, if there are only 1 or 2 units, rather than passing through me. (quadruples the shipping and the time.)

I never got a chance to test them before I shipped them out. The day I got them, they went out. (That also means, I did not mine with your units.)

I also got the exact number of units I ordered (which you ordered). In fact I didn't get everything, but that was sorted out. I do not have any extra units.

Anyway, I am marking this batch and group buy closed now. If there will be future runs, I will post a new thread. Have fun with your miners. FedEx is now my favorite courier. (They always have been.)

A few hundred maybe (maybe a couple thousand), but only less than 50 passed through my hands. The others went to other parts of the world. And then there are other "colors", blue fury, green fury, red fury ... due to slightly different versions, and colors of the heatsinks and pcbs.

I believe the best sticks out now are from Gekko Science, but I'm not sure. No stick is profitable. These were for educational purposes.

I believe he was asking how many blue furies overall are out there in total. Does anyone know?

From what I remember, there was only one or two runs of this blue fury. So my guess or estimate of a few hundred is close. I'd have to ask the other guys (if they're still around), but you can probably do a little research from the OP and the links to other threads.

So mine was 50, OutCast's was 500+, ssinc was 500+, Maidak was 120+, bobsag was about 50 too. So between 1200 to 1400 units total. Then ... stuff happened, and other colors popped out.
