Title: What is going to replace bitcoin?

I believe crypto is not going away but it looks like in the near future bitcoin is going to be a afterthought.   What coins do you think have a chance at replacing it and being adopted for use?

No one will know yet until bitcoin disappear. Every alt can definitely take over bitcoins, it will be a matter of how. If one coin can take advantage of the needs of every investors it will be the one to replace bitcoin.

Not sure if the thing that will replace bitcoin is invented yet. Even if it has been, we're not yet aware. We will know in the future, only thing we can do for now is to speculate and demand. If bitcoin is replaced by something that will be done by us, this community. So, what do you think bitcoin lacks and what can be done about it?

The fact that bitcoin price goes down doesn't prove that bitcoin is not good enough and should be replaced by another coin. I think Bitcoin will remain the most used cryptocurrency for a long time and probably forever, just because it is the main coin on the market and the most used one because it is the easiest to buy. When you think about blockchain or cryptocurrencies you obviously think about Bitcoin and thats why it is number one and will remain like that. I am sure there are going to be a lot of coins better than bitcoin at taxes, transactions and speed but bitcoin is also improving every year and it maintains itself on top

There are many cryptocurrencies which claim to be better than Bitcoin. Usually, such coins are fast because of low traffic. There are some promising projects such as IOTA, but it will be really difficult for them to surpass Bitcoin. Many people associate cryptocurrencies with Bitcoin. Litecoin is faster than Bitcoin thanks to its lower time between blocks. SegWit has been already activated, it looks like Bitcoin has a chance to become much faster than it already is. Lightning Network is working on the mainnet, maybe 2018 is the year in which Bitcoin will become widely adopted by many shops all around the world?

You only replace something if something is wrong with it... so what is wrong with Bitcoin? We are ready for mainstream

adoption with the Lightning Network and the MemPool is basically empty and we have some of the best developers in the

world at the moment. Bitcoin is not perfect,  but there are no significant problems with it.  ???

Why do you believe so? Cryptocurrencies are gaining value every year. Bitcoin would have to go below 5000 USD in value for us to start worrying. Nowe the price is still 6 times higher than it was in 2017. Crypto is going to become much more popular before it disappears. That is if it ever disappears completely. Computers or mobile phones didn't.

Bitcoin is dominated all over the world. And for me, bitcoin is irreplaceable. It does not change by hype or other existing cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin is king above all cryptocurrency. I will not remove bitcoin to my portfolio just for other cryptocurrency. I am a 100% bitcoin hodler.

I dont think anything can replace bitcoin at the moment. Bitcoin is the on replacing the old. Bit coin is the future now. Specially with the rise of technology. I think bitcoin is tge pioneer and is setting the trend on how the future will be in terms of currency, money and trading. Beating the pioneer in a business is a very tough thing to do so i think bitcoin is here to stay for a long time.

Many people ask this question and I have read about it many times. Sometimes I feel that people are not reading the forum properly and just go on creating the topics. You should really click the buttons at the bottom which says pages 1, 2, 3, 4... etc.

I know for new people it might be very tiring to the clicking but you should try it. Its really fun brother.

About your question, I am not sure whats going to replace the bitcoin but one thing is sure, bitcoin will be bitcoin forever and brands never get replaced but they might get copied.  :D

This is a very interesting question. I honestly am not sure what will replace Bitcoin, but as technology improves, older tech becomes out-dated. I recently have looked into DAG based crypto instead of Blockchain crypto. I think DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) has potential, and may usher in the next generation of crypto currency. While DAG does have short comings, it provides a lot of benefits that are currently impossible the Blockchain technology. I dont know if any of the current DAG based cryptocurrencies out there will be successful, but I do think DAG may be the future, if there are security improvements. With that being said, I look at Bitcoin as digital gold. I don't think Bitcoin will ever disappear. It is by far the most secure network out there, and has one of the best dev teams. Bitcoin can coexist with other successful crypto as a store of value.

Nothing will replace bitcoin, it is too dominant and there is no real contender. Ethereum has its uses with ICOs but it doesn't have brand recognition to be a well established currency.

I most likely believe that eth is the next generation of bitcoin. But if that's true it will happen I feel it is not in the near future, many processes must be passed eth first to reach the peak like bitcoin. But whatever will happen positive thinking about cryptocurency maybe it can help us a little to support each coin and turn negative issues into positive

For now Bitcoin is doing great. It's gaining value every year and offers ridiculous gains. Many people who missed the last train will want to hop in and wait for another one.
Maybe if the technology proves inefficient I'll start looking for a better cryptocurrency but for now nothing is as popular as Bitcoin.

As all that was created will go through disappearance, and the emergence of another coins. So after Bitcoin will be gone a hiatus of coins will be on a competitions to become the next Bitcoin. In my point of view, it will be ethereum that will emergence as the next Bitcoin in the future where the existence of Bitcoin is none.

If you think that bitcoin is going to be the past you have to give some  substantiating facts and you must give us a few alternatives that you think have a better solution for the problems you think can be sorted out, if you cannot think about anything do not just start a topic for the sake of it because the answer is obvious, there is no other coin that is strong enough to replace bitcoin.

I think nothing will replace bitcoin even in the future. It is on the top of the list of all cryptocurrencies and altcoins. It has been establishing itself from last nine years and is doimg very well though there is a fall in price going on.Bitcoin is now being used by a lot of people all over the globe. No other altcoin or cryptocurrency has that much of potential and capability to beat bitcoin and become the number one.It gives huge profit returns than any other cryptocurrency.

I don't think any coin has a chance to replace bitcoins.  Bitcoin are far more in marketcap and price that no other coin cant even reach near it. The New projects like neo or iota are great and better than bitcoins, but bitcoin has a name and it is hard to overcome it.

For me fundamentally speaking the altcoins could replace Bitcoin are Ethereum and Neo but it would take years to happen that because there's a lot of new people here in crypto world that doesn't realize the technology of the altcoins all they know right now in crypto are they will be millionaire.

I dont know whats your basis on such thing but you do have a point when it comes that theres always a possibility for bitcoin to be replaced by another altcoin which do have better technology compared to it but for now its too early to say such thing. We have seen on how big is the community and the dominance of bitcoin on the entire market which would signifies that it do have a strong foundation which cant really be easily replaced to its current top spot.

In the future, Bitcoin will apparently not be the world's most famous currency for trading because people only view Bitcoin as a property to hold and sell when it is profitable, not be used as a currency. Cryptocurrencies will become the future of coins, and altcoins will replace Bitcoin to become the world's most leading currency for the next 30 years.

It's all bullshit when people who parade alts as Bitcoin's replacement, yet they still carry signatures and logos that all propose Bitcoin or even use its logo. True, people see Bitcoin as property to hold, but how many of them had the guts to hold on when it dipped all the way to $6k, when they bought it at 10 to 19k? They all sold, leaving those who do use it to spend cheaper coins to get. Bitcoin is used all over the place even on this forum. Maybe some people accept ETH, but any other alts? Other than for bounties, which all help promote the alt anyway, there has been no good alt that serves as currency outside of Litecoin and Monero.

I'm sure for 99% that bitcoin will not be replaced by something else. It would cause biggest collapse in the crypto world. The formation of bitcoin and its community took almost 10 years, it's a lot! Something really bad must happen for bitcoin to die. If this happens,  the whole market will go into a long depression. At the moment it is not beneficial to anyone.

I think among all the advantages of BTC being the flagman of cryptocoins, the biggest is Satoshi itself. The idea of unknown developer, who is staying in the shadow is so cool :) it's like Anonymous in Vendetta movie.
In my opinion blockchain as the whole doesn't require replacement of BTC, but strong alts being integrated into daily life. As well if BTC dominance will be ~25% and market will not be dependent from BTC price it will be completely another game.

I think each coin has its value(except some ICO) and they have their own idea about the technology. The investment to bitcoin will be declined and transferred to invest those potential programs.

It may or may not be a substitute for Bitcoin. What matters is what we get from us and what 'BlockChain' technology gives us. It is a fact that BTC, which is the currency that has gained so much value in the market, is not easily deleted from the market and continues to be used for a while.

I don't see any reason to replace bitcoin, because its really normal to incur problems on one technology but bitcoin started this journey and as respect to the creator of this great cryptoworld, bitcoin must stay. Bitcoin may not remain on top but at least we still have it and continues to make more people rich through its own technology.

"Replaced" would not be the word i think, perhaps "Better competitor" would be appropriate
I mean, in order to replace something, you got to have the same aspect of tech/criteria/properties to deal with

Bitcoin is the pioneer of Blockchain or Crypto, they don't serve for a "Specific" purpose but just to shows that Decentralized Network could work
In the long run, perhaps it might not be #1 but it won't be replaced somehow

No coins has the ability or potential to replace Bitcoin for another 100 years. I don't say this because I like Bitcoin but that is the fact, Bitcoin is the mother of all crypto and rules the world inside crypto market and outside as well. The price factor and other positive things of Bitcoin cannot be attained by any other coins in near future.

Look, many people talk about the dependence of growth and regression of bitcoin and all alts. And as in such a situation, some other coin can replace bitcoin, I think it is necessary to break the stereotypes of people who still hold on to bitcoin and do not believe in alts. Then the market will look different and coins will become more effective.

It’s a pretty hard prediction to make because no matter how much bitcoin gets damaged it’s still the number one coin in the crypto. All the other coins are struggling because bitcoin is struggling too. If we are expecting alt coins to get back to normal first we need to see bitcoin get back to normal. Only then we can talk about other possibilities.

I don’t think there is a certain coin speculated yet to replace bitcoin because probably bitcoin is one tough coin to drop down. How can anyone think of bitcoin to be replaced when if its not because of bitcoin, these other cryptocurrencies won’t be created today. It is just funny how people can easily think of it, and I really think bitcoin is irreplaceable for if there won’t be bitcoin most of the cryptocurrencies wont survive for sure.

Bitcoin is a modern technology that can be known to many people until the future. Bitcoin will continue to develop by young people who are optimistic that bitcoin will be invaluable in the future. we are all aware of many great entrepreneurs who are able to compete to make innovations and launch new altcoin types, the goal to be accepted in the exchange market kriptocurrency so it can be under the bitcoin. if Bitcoin had drastically decreased in price, there would be no altcoin that could replace this crypto king.

Yes, it is true . and bitcoin have proven it from the beginning to the present. a decline in value that is very far from the value at the end of last year can not even change its position in the crypto. this will continue as it can become more popular in the future as more and more people know and use bitcoin in the form of media exchange or investment.

I think it would be hard to have a sufficiently powerful altcoin to replace bitcoin. Current bitcoin is still the king of the cryptocurrency market and the price of all altcoin is affected by bitcoin. If Bitcoin dies then almost the entire market will collapse and the altcoin will die. Bitcoin is in a difficult period, it needs time to recover and grow. I believe that in a short time the bitcoin price will increase and stabilize again.

Bitcoin have a power for affact when the price goes down and when price goes up, if any information bad come again bitcoin and bitcoin price down, then the price altcoin will down also and otherwise. With the result that it's imposible for altcoin can replace bitcoin, if the price altcoin depend on bitcoin.

i can sure one thing , there won't be any altcoins that a fitable to be replaced bitcoin even in the future, bitcoin is unique because it is the first cryptocurrency all around the world, so there are so many people are investing in bitcoin as a main crypto of the world, and making it becomes dominator cryptos in the market, so not much altcoins can replace btc even in far future.

Yes, I agree with you that cryptocurrency is not going anywhere and they are going to stay here in this market for long-term. I think we need to analyze and research a lot of things and factors by which we can conclude about the coin which can be replaced to Bitcoin. There are many options like Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero, Dash, Zcash, Ripple and selecting one from all these is going to be a tough competition and i think that this time Ethereum will be taking the place of bitcoin.

I dont think that bitcoin will ever be replaced or that it will be needed to be replaced. I think bitcoin will be always the most stable coin and the most valuablest coin. And thats good, and it dont need to be replaced. In future we will get a cryptocurrency coin who will be technically available to be a daily payment method. This coin will have a higher market cap then bitcoin, but it have to be stable that we can use it a s daily payment. So this coin will coming, but it will no replace bitcoin.

The truth is that eventually a better product would put the current leader off the shelf. I don't know whether this would be possible in the next ten years but there are certainly a lot of coins which are worthy of replacing bitcoin from the top slot.
It would be interesting to see how the users adapt to the changes in the market. Unless everyone is properly educated and the use of cryptocurrencies becomes a daily errand, only then we would be able to see a potential challenger to the bitcoin.

Replacing Bitcoin where? If you mean in the 1st spot of coinmarketcap website then it is definately not difficult for altcoins like Ethereum or litecoin. The problem here is Bitcoin has a first move advantage which none of the other coins have. This has been already printed in many minds like cryptocurrency = Bitcoin.

Smart contract platforms such as Ethereum (ETH) and NEO actually solve a real-world problem, by making existing systems better. For instance, through the trustless nature of smart contracts, processes such as voting and legal contracts between individuals suddenly become highly efficient and transparent processes.

Bitcoin isn't going to become an afterthought.

It is the first crypto and as such, it has a lot of reputation and trust in the community. Just like gold and silver, they will forever hold value intrinsically because people trust it. Bitcoin doesn't need to have crazy algorithms or smart contracts to be successful. It's a simple currency and it aims to solve what is immediately needed, not some complicated stuff that is only used for speculation.

There will be no replacement for bitcoin, at least it's not out yet. All the bitcoin forks are worthless imo. Altcoins right now will only compete with other alts, not BTC itself.

There's a lot new altcoin who have base on ethereum. Simply, if you want to invested in altcoin, you must buy ethereum first and with ethereum you can buy altcoin do you want. Whereas now more and more pupping up new altcoin made, and ethereum will the first way to buy the token.

Bitcoin made a revolution. It affected millions of people and financial systems around the world. Now he's bringing in a new system. With the confidence that Bitcoin has gained, it brings with it many altcoins. I do not think another coin will take its place. Bitcoin may be a new investment vehicle. Paper money has almost no production cost, and production is open to abuse. That's why Bitcoin can take the place of paper money. thus ensuring that measures against inflation and deflation are taken

You are correct, in my mind there is nothing that can replace bitcoin it may seem easy, some people think that you only need to create a coin that is better but what it is going to stop bitcoin to adopt the characteristics of that coin for itself, so the coin that wants to replace bitcoin cannot just be marginally better it needs to be so much better that it is a no brainer to switch to this new coin.

No one really knows for sure what coins is big, sturdy and price-efficient enough to replace bitcoin's
foothold on the cryptocurrency market. Ethereum seems to be the only one that's close but still not
enough if price is to be a strong factor. Though Ethereum is remarkably steady in a very impressive
standard and manner much compared to bitcoins, it may still very well have a shot. But bitcoins will
still be hard to replace in my opinion. It's just hard to speculate or imagine what's bigger than BTC.

theres nothing can replace bticoin

With that said, there is still a big uncertainty of bitcoin's successor. I think we shouldn't really
bother to engage strenuously with such matters, bitcoin is undeniably unique. It still hasn't
reach it's peak, we can still expect wonderful and even greater things from bitcoins. Bitcoins
is simply indefinitely irreplaceable as far as people are concerned.

Where do you think crypto is going? (Based on your question)

There are so many good altcoins out there that might beat Bitcoin someday, but ofcoarse we're not sure about our speculations or a guess. Many says, Ethereum will beat Bitcoin or it can be Litecoin. But I have a strong belief that it will be Ethereum.

Indeed many looks that say could replace the ethereum bitcoin. but of course, this needs to be a long time because of the bitcoin itself can also be easily moved. but there will be no one knows how the future later on how the fate of the bitcoin.

It would be very difficult for other coins to replace bitcoin position if any other coin that is able to replace bitcoin position will take a long time. Bitcoin will stay in place, and other coins will remain under bitcoin. Maybe you can make a backup investment in other than bitcoin, I think is suitable to be invested besides bitcoin ie Ethereum and BCH.

I think that bitcoin is here to stay, and will remain a major coin for the foreseeable future. Maybe number one, maybe not, but certainly up near the top in cap.

And different coins have different uses, it's not a case of one coin fulfilling every role. For example ETH and XRP - ETH will never replace XRP for fast international banking payments, and XRP will never replace ETH for smart contracts.

It's not the case that there will be a single winner that fulfills every role.

Not unless the world will turn against it. But, altcoins can become the next bitcoin someday. Who knows?. Irreplaceable , that's Bitcoin. Even there's a lot of great coin invented with purposes and outstanding feature , Bitcoin would remain as the one that people wanted. Too much factors support that Bitcoin are irreplaceable , the most important are how to get an attention , Bitcoin ecosystem has been built very well until today.
Never easy to build another one with same level , it's common for crypto enthusiast to call a coin with high marketcap like ripple , eth or Bitcoin cash as the one who considered as a major contender.

Ethereum does have the potential to cross the pioneer but it will still take many years to achieve the task. Not only the coin has gained huge acceptance in a short period of time but is also used as a token for smart applications. The coin currently has a market capital of $49 billion. It has also been accepted by some major companies like Microsoft, Intel, Jp morgan. Also, it is backed up by a very secure cryptography. It is used as a platform for posting new ICOs.
Hence, the coin has many unique features which bitcoin doesn't have but the pioneer due to its much wider acceptance and more greater market capital remains the king of the crypto.

We know ethereum has the power to show the n number of coins to market but still bitcoin will not allow anyone to give the competition for over riding the bitcoin at all.
As of now bitcoin holds the 45 percentage of the volume in the market so far.
But in we may find it reduced or increased in the market. All the cryptocurrencies are volatile in nature this may make anything in the market after some years.

I have come to realise in recent time that Bitcoin cannot in any way be replaced by any altcoins in the years to come as it has gain ground and as number ONE crypto currency in the world. Why should one thought of such a thing to happen in the nearest future because i personally don't see any reason behind such thought as Bitcoin has use for which you need crypto currency for except ethereum that one will need for convertion of Token.

I don't see any reasons for it. The coin that could replace BTC should be convenient as a payment method first of all, but ETH is a platform for smart contracts, so we cannot compare them. For example, it could be replaced by Litecoin, as their main purposes are same.

I don't think any other crypto coin can replace bitcoin. Though we do have many coins competing each other to take next place of bitcoin, its hard to reach bitcoin's marketcap. BCH and Maker are behind bitcoin with good growth trend. ETH is on fourth place and its said to grow threefold in its values this year. Maker has silently came over ETH and competing with ECH now.

By looking at the current situation of the market, I think no coin has ability to replace Bitcoin. In near future or after some time it can only be possible when large economies of the world and leading marketers join together to replace bitcoin by launching their own coin (off-course by investing themselves). Its really good to have question such. This indicates that we have other coins coming up in line competing the mother of crypto currencies. We do have major currencies like ETH, MAKER, BITCOINCASH, MIXIN and DASH roaring up towards Bitcoin. Though it is not possible to reach bitcoin's position now, every currency is fighting in the market to gain more values to their coins. The effort and the team work each one places before the market is really stunning. Bitcoin still being an example for new currencies. Though it’s hard to replace bitcoin now, we can really see many major coins coming up in the market with same effect.

no alt coin will replace Bitcoin and  top 5 coins they will compare to bitcoin in reality no alt coin can come near to bitcoin
I agree with this, the idea that another coin is going to replace bitcoin can be a possibility in the mind of some but it's not very realistic in my opinion, if something is going to replace bitcoin it cannot be a cryptocurrency it needs to be something new something more advanced, after all how can a coin surpass bitcoin if they are using the same technology that bitcoin is using.

Bitcoin was the first and has been here since 2009. It's been known for a long time, and it all started from Bitcoin. Personally, I think it will not replace any other cryptocurrency.
Although ETH can get closer to either price or popularity. The future will show.

Bitcoin is the best. Ethereum is not even close to Bitcoin and looks like Ethereum will have a real competition in the face of NEO.

I believe bitcoin will be "replaced", if the market capitalisation of another cryptocurrency exceeds Bitcoin's.

From a tecchnical perspective, I can see almost any coin take over Bitcoin, as Bitcoin is slow, inefficient, and does not scale well at the moment, so its technically inferior to plenty of other coins.
From the perspective of the use of Bitcoin, it is a speculative investment, and also it trades into almost everything. But all I see is it could be any coin.
If we wont see any serious hardfork happening, other coins, like Ethereum might surpass it in terms of market capitalisation. Also, it is technically superior (at least in my opinion).

Are you talking about price? Because, no one can replace Bitcoin, he is a pioneer and will always be the number one. By popularity with him, some projects can already compete. At a cost, as rightly noted in previous comments, time will tell, how it will be in future, no one can predict.

Unlikely Bitcoin will be replaced. Bitcoin being the first, most trusted, most secure, the only coin synonymous with cryptocurrency in general, didn't come from an ICO, doesn't hard fork every few months while ignoring consensus like some coins, advancing technologically slowly but safely and surely, has no leader since Satoshi left and is therefore its influence and power is even more decentralized.

There is not a single other coin on the market that is even close to it in these regards. Most coins coming out over the past year or so are either niche product tokens, are centralized in some way, are of experimental tech that may not pan out, are forks that are just power/money grabs, and likely no one will care about them in 5 or 10 years.

Plenty of coins aren't even competing with Bitcoin, they are trying to take a different part of the crypto space, like application tokens or dApps platforms. Nearly all altcoins that are directly competing with Bitcoin like its forks and other alts focused just on payments are some combination of either centralized in some way or doing things like advancing tech without a thought about security.

For a decentralized source of money you want it to be highly secure, very resistant to change, and have no one in complete control of it. That's Bitcoin.
If you see a coin hard forking a lot that means you can't trust it to be money. If you see a coin with a few people in total control of the direction and make changes with no consensus you can't trust it as money. If you see a coin where the founders own a very significant portion of the supply you can't trust it as money.

The only real challenger I can think of that is like Bitcoin but much less popular is Litecoin.

The more time that passes the more Bitcoin becomes engrained as THE cryptocurrency. There is only one bitcoin. There are like 1600 or so altcoins. The likelihood that one of them will beat all the others and then replace Bitcoin is very unlikely. Not impossible, but I'd say it's like a 5% chance.

It could be a currency that is already existing or a currency that is yet to be created. No one knows for sure as there are so many currencies nowadays and so many are claiming to replace bitcoin but no one succeeded yet. Maybe someday when there would be a consensus among the people and decide to support a coin that is better than bitcoin then it would replace it. Along with the push by the whales, the support of the community of that coin and much better features compared to bitcoin then there is a chance for it to replace the king of cryptocurrency. Even though it is highly unlikely at the moment, we cannot still eliminate this possibility.

In order to replace bitcoin, altcoins should first try to match the achievements of bitcoin for the past years and reach its present  value. The would be challenger to bitcoin's throne should also independent from any bitcoin price fluctuations and can still rise even the price of other coins are going down. The existing group of altcoins have yet to show their capability of replacing altcoins and it might take more years before some of them can able to show the ability to match bitcoin's achievements.

If the development of Ethereum from year to year is always fast and the price is always high. I'm sure Ethereum can be the best coin of all coins and Bitcoin can be replaced by Ethereum.

It looks like Bitcoin will not be replaced with other coins.
Bitcoin is the oldest coin and from its inception to the present day, Bitcoin remains a great coin with a high value.
Bitcoin will survive until whenever Bitcoin sophistication is very superior and there is no coin that can match it.
Bitcoin will not be replaced.

The future is uncertain, but at present Bitcoin still remains the greatest cryptocurrency. However, some analysts distinguish Litecoin as a possible crypto not to replace but to have equal standing as that of bitcoin but surely not in market value. Litecoin developer designed this coin as a response to the scalability problems witnessed by the bitcoin network. This altcoin is likewise perceived by many as the better transactional currency than bitcoin due to its faster transaction times and lower transaction fees. Litecoin has also witnessed less volatile price movements in comparison to other digital currencies.
As i see it, Litecoin will be a potential returns booster as well as a great diversifier to bitcoin and ethereum.

It is understandable that bitcoin is a force to be reckon with. It always survive after too many attempts to bring it down. I also see great potential in it even short term and preferably long term. But we never know how some of these altcoins perform because everything in crypto is still very young. I don't mind some altcoins surpassing bitcoin but one thing is clear, bitcoin never dies. Well, at least not that easily after proving how strong its history.

many people believe that bitcoin will continue to grow so bitcoin becomes familiar to large and medium-sized investors who regard it as a very promising investment asset. it is highly unlikely that bitcoin just disappears, although there is always a new type of altcoin emerging but certainly will not replace the bitcoin position known as kryptocurrency king.

it is really hard to think about bitcoin will be replaced in the future but after a long time, surely it will happens, so that is why we have to choose a good altcoin to be able to replace BTC, i personally think it would be great if we choose to invest in ADA, a really good altcoin that has been high evaluated by investors around the world, that it can use smart contract like ETH but better because it can increase the amount of transactions to deal every second, and its potential to be used in real life is very good that it can defeat both ETH and BTC, but this is stil on experiments, we should wait a little longer to see the result.

Nobody really knows how long we are going to live or this planet but this is certain, as far as human race will live, bitcoin will also stay with it and no crypto currency has the potential to overtake crypto king.

I personally dont think any other coin can replace bitcoin, its just to entrenched, and has to much of an network effect advantage. Bitcoin is also the only coin right now that is truly decentralized (can u really call ethereum decentralized when its price fell 40% on vitalik death rumours). The btc network also has a lot of protection with its massive hash power and still fulfills its original purpose of sound money.

And im not trying to diss alts or other coins here, they all have their various use cases and will completely change how various indutsries and sectors of the economy work, but that's not to say that they come anywhere close to having the characteristic of a currency and can replace btc.

And yes the BTC dominance will continue to drop overtime, but its important to consider that the dominance ratio is skewed heavily in favour of alts owing to the fact that there are 100s of new icos launched every month, while the order books for most small cap coins are very thin such that with even 100-300 btc you could increase the marketcap of these coins 20-30 fold. (denta coin here is a great example).

Nothing. I really believe that is the wrong way of looking at cryptocurrencies. The only way cryptocurrencies will survive in the long-term is when interoperability between different blockchains start to become mainstream. There shouldn’t be talk of replacing Bitcoin — because this leads to a dog-eat-dog mentality. Instead, there should be talk about which (and how) blockchains can work harmoniously with each other.

I like your way of thinking. That should be what the purpose of cryptocurrencies are in which they shouldn't just be treated as mere currency racing on what coin will be the next king but we should think on how these cryptocurrencies would shape our future and how the technology and cryptocurrencies would be able to use each others system to make the transactions efficient and effective. This should be what the future looks like instead of just speculating about the price. We can see it in some projects now wherein some ICOs are partnering with coins already in the market and some in the ICO stage yet to provide a better project for the crypto enthusiasts.

replace the bitcoin I guess will never exist and can't. bitcoin remains alive because it has a great demand as well. bitcoin annually still continue to grow. This will make the other altcoin will be increasingly difficult for the equivalent of the bitcoin.
Among crypto currencies, Bitcoin is one of its kinds. It has come a long way as compared to other currencies. Besides, the number of people investing in Bitcoin is so huge that no other crypto currency will ever be able to reach Bitcoin. Yeah I am way too optimistic about it. It is delocalized and way too secure than others. Speaking further, world’s leading companies have also started to deal in Bitcoin. Looking at all these factors, I do not believe any other currency will ever replace Bitcoin.

Bitcoin will not be replaced by any other coins anytime soon. But, the people's choice is ETH because of its revolutionizing system to be utilized in many aspects. In my opinion, bitcoin will always be here to stay because it is the pioneer in crypto currency and has become the trademark. I may be wrong, but I still believe that the entry point to crypto currency will always be bitcoin.
First of all mate, I really dont understand why people want bitcoin to get replaced by an other digital asset. it is indeed the best of the best and desrves to be on the top of crypot world. it has earned this position by grabbing interest and trust of investors over a long time. Secondly, I am supporting you in your words. Nothing can overtake bitcoin. No matter how hard other coins try, the truth is digital market depends on this coin.

I don't think that anything should replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the leader of crypto and the flagman for the whole industry IMO.
I do not think there is any coin to replace the BTC in the future, I believe the BTC is the king of the Crypto market forever, even if the market is falling, BTC is still a coin occupied. By the end of 2018, BTC prices will rise more than $ 50,000. I believe this will happen.

In my opinion, there can be no other crypto coin amongst all the crypto coins which are there in the world of the crypto currencies which have this much of the potential and the capabilities that any of them can replace the bitcoin even after so many years from now as well. It is because bitcoin is the only coin on which the entire foundation of the crypto currencies is being laid and that place cannot be taken by any other coin.

ETH will replace Bitcoin by the end of next year and
some DAG coin like IOTA or Byteball will replace ETH in 3 years from now.
just my two cents  :P

The only answer that comes to my mind is government issued cryptocurrencies....why because they are the only potential replacement of bitcoin as they will also help torn down the volatility these first generation cryptos experience

A lot of alt coins are actually catching up to Bitcoin in terms of value and price.. In my opinion, it doesn't have to be a drastic change, but a slow and stable one.

I also don't believe in Bitcoin. Some faast blockchains like Quarkchain, Ziliqa, EOS, Universa, will replace BTC, also I believe, that such giants like Google, Microsoft, Telegram will be able to replace Bitcoin by own crypto. They have loyal audience and can push crypto to mass adoption. That is the reason and one of the potential scenarios

I agree with your thinking, maybe a bitcoin competitor is very much and to shift the pioneer I think is very difficult.

And why do you want for bitcoin to be replaced? Is it because you did not invested when it was very cheap and now you want your favorite coin in which you invested to replace it? Because I do not blame you but that is not going to happen, bitcoin is too strong, too big and too popular and I do not see any coin no matter how good surpassing it in the short term.

If there is a coin that can replace bitcoin then I think it is definitely Ethereum because Ethereum is the best altcoin currently on the market for cryptocurrency. ETH brings with it many advantages and with a very strong development team with the leadership of Vitalik, ETH will be the most developed coins in the coming years.

I don't think so, even the most successful altcoin like Ethereum can not beat bitcoin, I think for the past few decades bitcoin is still very strong, people are still more comfortable and feel safe to invest and use bitcoin than altcoin, so I think bitcoin will still last long time enough, maybe until bitcoin feels already outdated

I do not think Bitcoin will be replaced with any other coin as it will remain the most used cryptocurrency, the most dominated coin, the most stable and coin with the highest potentials. It is the main coin on the market and the most use. Other blockchain in crypto where created from bitcoin as it is the oldest crypto. Although there are going to be a lot of coins better than bitcoin at taxes, transactions and speed but bitcoin is also improving every year and that is why it will remain in existence. Altcoin are pretty good and very promising example is ethereum but this cannot replace bitcoin, They will exist on their own space while bitcoin will continue to gain more crowd.

When some blockchain application great enough to be accepted as currency and utility that will garner high acceptance among wide users then bitcoin will be replaced as king. The only thing bitcoin is ahead of is it's network size. How many uses bitcoin compared to those other crypto which is proven to be better, technically speaking, to bitcoin. That's what other crypto lacks, a giant network size.

No proper coin yet, I think that Bitcoin is the main digital currency and will last for a long time. although there is etherum, but the capabilities and market share owned by etherum can not beat Bitcoin. Bitcoin is still too strong and currently there are still many people who trust Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a form and feature of the digital currency from beginning to end.

I don't think this idea. I'm not sure anyone can replace bitcoin, the future is something that is difficult to predict, you can not say something that will not necessarily happen in the future, but that does not mean I do not pay attention to problems like bitcoin that will disappear sometime, there will be replacements that have a variety of advantages, so get a good response from many people so they can adopt it, but it is a mere prediction of the fact that bitcoin can survive today because of some of the advantages it has, so every still trust and use bitcoin. Gold is gold. Silver is silver and Bitcoin is bitcoin!

What can really beat bitcoin when all of the altcoin world depends on this single digital asset? It is pretty fine with me if no one is going to believe in my words but this does not change the truth and the simple plus most obvious truth of digital market is that it entirely depends on bitcoin. Like we have recently seen, when bitcoin was at its peak, the market cap was also at its peak and most altcoins were doing the same.

I do not think as well that something will ever be able to replace Bitcoin. I used the word “ever” because Bitcoin has come a long way and has spread its wings which have covered all the Europe and other continents and leading companies as well.

The other crypto like ETH and wave are also good but they do not have the efficiency to outshine Bitcoin. But since Bitcoin is limited in number, I think in the next century, when no more Bitcoin will be produced, the rest of the crypto might take over.

You are right at your thinking, since many people in this field are saying that after the bitcoin , etherium will be main coin to be use as a main coin to make trading and making Investment in any project but here in my opinion bitcoin is that coin which has more advanced team than what any another team have , day by day bitcoin team is improving his technology of the coin , so surely in the future they will make something more better than what hat we think that it cannot make more improvement ,but it is a technology and can be easily change to a better .
But here in my if bitcoin will be replaced by any coin then I don't think that people will have etherium as a main coin but there will be another options like bitcoin gold , bitcoin cash , neo coin , dash coin etc .

Bitcoin wont ever be replaced by any coins because bitcoin is like the standard currency of cryptos just like a usd . the value of bitcoin is also much higher when compared to other cryptos and it is nearly impossible for them to surepass it .

Altcoins like etherium can possibly be replace easily by its other competitors like ripple and bitcoincash because their value is verry close to each other but overall i think ranking does not really matter because what matter the most for me is their usage and not their price.

That is true, nothing could be better than coin which started this market, it will be king forever and it will lead market to green and moon for me in coming years untill its price will be more stable, cause i think that those Times will come in future.

Bitcoin is the most important cryptocurrency. Most government backed money that goes in and out of crypto goes through bitcoin so what happens to the original cryptocurrency affects the entire market. It is still dominant and will remain so for a long time. It has the biggest user base industry.
ICOs will impact the Ethereum network because ICOs usually require plenty of ether. That will buttress the demand for the platform's digital coin _ but that does not mean it will replace bitcoin.

In terms of similar use case, whoever is able to solve the current problems with Bitcoin - scalability, usability, safety and privacy. Whoever is able to find the best solution for all those issues and can provide as much side features as possible without damaging the product will win the war. At least until the next coin arrives. Its a constant arms race where the biggest winner is the end user.

No coin can ever replace Bitcoin in the market. It is the very first cryptocurrency that exist in the market and by that it already provides a strong foundation that no one can break. Many coins will exist but Bitcoin is irreplaceable.

I don't believe that an altcoin can replace Bitcoin completely as you say. I wouldn't even wish for that because right now Bitcoin stands at the fore front of all the coins and somewhat it growth, and popularity affect altcoins. So i will wish that the other alcoins will get better to match up with bitcoin but bot to replace it.

I do not think there will be altcoin that can replace bitcoin because bitcoin remains the first coin in the world and to replace bitcoin is not easy because many altcoins are trying to take over bitcoin but it can not and it is very difficult

Currently, a lot of coins are different and generally wound, they want to confidently take the place of bitcoin in the cryptocurrency market and of course will be fixed there, but it's not so simple, and the bitcoin itself is not going to be sick then the nikuud's out.

I think it will be replaced by Bitcoin Cash or Ethereum. But Bitcoin Cash has more chances. It has faster transactions and is cheaper. It is not known how the market will develop but I think Bitcoin will also not soon leave it.
Bitcoin cash has no chance to replace bitcoin, it is a very similar coin with just some small characteristics that are slightly different, but most importantly most of the community do not trust in bitcoin cash and as long as the community is still relatively small bitcoin cash has no chance to overcome bitcoin and when huge adoption happens in the market, bitcoin will be so much better that bitcoin cash will have no way to compete to get a huge part of that adoption.

The most probably and the most likely coin that will replace Bitcoin will be Ethereum. Simply because most of the Altcoins are now not depending anymore in Bitcoin but instead they use the Ethereum plarform in which the most commonly used platform in the market and also we could transact directly to Ethereum as their are many local exchanges that are now accepting Ethereum to fiat conversion so i say it will be Ethereum will always be the best candidate to replace Bitcoin.

Since that time, it is one and only bitcoin which is leading the crypto market in spite being the fact that there are so many other crypto coins in the crypto market as well but none of them has this much of the potential that it can compete with the bitcoin.

The key factor is mass adoption. The more possibilities you have to buy something with your coin - the better. Features such as privacy, scalability etc are also important, but what's the point of having private coin with transaction speed ot 5000-10000 tps when you can't use it anywhere. Whoever gets the biggest part of the market will win the war.

I  also do not think and cannot think of a cryptocurrency that has the ability to replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the only king in the crypto market and has come a long long way despite so many hurdles in the start. Still it expanded immensely in 2018 and will go beyond borders as well. Bitcoin if legalized In all the countries will even replace dollar in the international market.

I disagree with you, because Bitcoin is not replaceable in my opinion. Bitcoin is the most popular coin and we have seen so many attacks on Bitcoin. I don't think that Ethereum would be that strong if these attacks were against it. Bitcoin is taking all the heat and this is helping the other coins as well.

Coins that can replace the Bitcoin position is Ethereum. Yes, I believe that one-day Ethereum can replace Bitcoin. The development of Ethereum is very rapid and the price of Ethereum every year must always increase. So do not close the possibility that one-day Ethereum can replace Bitcoin position. I'm sure this will happen if Bitcoin's progress gets worse.

With the popularity, potentials and qualities of bitcoin, I do not think it can be replaced by another coin because it will continue to grow and improve it potentials and remain the best and oldest in crypto. Ethereum may be better in terms of speed and advanced technology but cannot replace bitcoin except bitcoin cease to exist which is not possible.

I do not think so. Bitcoin is the leader but one day, the leader has to be replaced by other cryptocurrencies due to many reasons. First of all, there are only 21 million bitcoins existing on the world while other coins have more. And moreover, only 2 million bitcoin is being used. The others are lost.

I think nothing will replace Bitcoin since bitcoin is more like digital gold than a platform like ethereum, so bitcoin does not have direct competitors. I think in the future we will see a lot of altcoins that are better than Bitcoin with faster transactions and technologies but they will not replace Bitcoin. I think a lot of whales and miners get rich through bitcoin, so they will support bitcoin. In addition, the bitcoin blockchain can be updated to be faster like Bitcoin cash.

Nothing looks like replacing Bitcoin. It actually holds approximately 0.05% of the whole world wealth and I do not think even for a while that ETH which is second in market profitability can even cross this value. Having said that, there looks no competitor for Bitcoin in the crypto world and has the ability to be the next international currency. All we need to do is to invest in it to maximize our profits.

Bitcoin lack is slow transaction. If we compare to other, bitcoin transaction is very slow that make people never send bitcoin if not a must. The people prefer to send other altcoin like Etherium or Litecoin to get quick transaction and small fee for sending it. So maybe that reason make many speculation to replace bitcoin.

As i have observed, Ethereum holds the second largest market cap in cryptoworld next to bitcoin. Litecoin also believed to replace Ethereum and eventually bitcoin. That's is why, i have read many crypto comparisons in this forum like comparing BTC and ETH, BTC and LTC, and ETH and ETC as well.

I give my preference. I give the etherium in any case. It seems to me that his actions are confirmed by the demand and constant use of this coin to pay for the transaction. I think that this is a strong argument in favor of the etherium.

Just imagine people are saying that ethereum will replace bitcoin sometime soon, however, ethereum network is experiencing a lot of network traffic lately and losing some value. On the other hand some altcoins are doing well. So no one can really tell if bitcoin will stay on top or if ever there will be an altcoin to replace it.

to date, Bitcoin has a very strong influence on the crypto-currency market and because of its fall does not give the opportunity to climb the main base altcoin. If this trend is changed, I think we will see a new leader of the crypto currency, the Etherium.

You are completely mistaken, what makes you think that bitcoin is going to be replaced that soon? Bitcoin is looking as strong as ever, the developers are working hard to get the lightning network finally activated and when that happens bitcoin will be liberated and we will begin to see the adoption going up again, if a coin does not surpass bitcoin by that time I think no cryptocurrency will ever surpass bitcoin.

Bit coin casj
No way possible. Bitcoin cash can never do that. Even ETH might not be able to do that either. Bitcoin cash on the other hand has used the brand of Bitcoin to get a slot in the market. Bitcoin on the other hand has accumulated as many as more than $100billion and still has a lot way to go beyond imagination. Besides, you should also think about the ratio of profit and the risk associated with Bitcoin and Bitcoincash before making comparative analysis.

Other coins must compete by doing more. And when doing more means more problem like scaling sharding

No one will replace Bitcoin, especially from the existing cryptocurrencies. The Bitcoin has the first-mover advantage because of which it enjoys huge support, trust and faith of the investors in it. So in order to break that trust or take the position of Bitcoin, a coin has to really awesome in its idea. It should be capable of offering something new and useful service to the people.

I think something completely new will be needed to replace bitcoin, after all even if a coin developed a new way to confirm transactions faster than bitcoin and several other superior characteristics if it is still based on the blockchain, what it is going to stop the developers copy all of those characteristics and apply them to bitcoin? So in a way all the cryptocurrencies are working for bitcoin without even knowing it.

Ethereum supporters were increasing day by day which is true. The usage of ethereum platform too is used much compared to the past adding more support to it. This doesn't gonna make bitcoin get replaced by ethereum. From the name itself it is clear that ethereum will head the altcoins, which means ethereum serves as an alternative to bitcoin.

I don't believe there is ever going to be another currency that can replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin has over the past years proven to be a standout amongst all the cryptos and also the fact that almost all other coins are pegged against BTC even makes the dominance higher. Even the forks that have come couldn't overtake Bitcoin.

I do not think there is any coin to replace the BTC in the future, I believe the BTC is the king of the Crypto market forever, even if the market is falling, BTC is still a coin occupied. By the end of 2018, BTC prices will rise more than $ 50,000. I believe this will happen.
What can really beat bitcoin when all of the altcoin world depends on this single digital asset? It is pretty fine with me if no one is going to believe in my words but this does not change the truth and the simple plus most obvious truth of digital market is that it entirely depends on bitcoin. Like we have recently seen, when bitcoin was at its peak, the market cap was also at its peak and most altcoins were doing the same.

bitcoin is a digital gold and good because it is interesting as a story - even if it happens so that the price of bitcoin fall below the plinth and voosche nothing will cost (which of course is an unlikely scenario), its activity will not decrease because it will be Iset interest in collectors and members of the globolization and digitalization of the world. Most likely the future of hundreds of thousands of dollars for bitcoin is possible only with the collapse of the dollar system when the dollar is a bubble devalued hundreds of times. But by this point, the market of altcoins will have burst young and active blockchains that will begin to argue for the palm is not with betcoin and Ethereum

I think that you can not replace bitcoin, because it is the first crypto currency, and everything is on it. All other crypto-currencies are derivatives of bitcoin.

There is currently no cryptocurrency that can replace Bitcoin. Most of the new cryptocurrencies are now plagiarized, and the old cryptocurrency application range is not as wide as Bitcoin!
The fact is that Bitcoin is used today in many purchases and sales, despite the lack of infrastructure, including in ico companies. Thus it turns out that the spectrum of Bitcoin's actions is wide enough, compared to competitors. although today Bitcoin is only one competitor, and this is an etherium.

Bitcoin is the king of the market, it gave birth to the crypto market. I think it would be very difficult to have a strong enough altcoin to replace Bitcoin's position. Currently there are many altcoin experts predict that they will grow as strong as Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano. These are altcoins that have many advantages over Bitcoin. However, I think they will need a lot of time and effort to overcome Bitcoin

I believe crypto is not going away but it looks like in the near future bitcoin is going to be a afterthought.   What coins do you think have a chance at replacing it and being adopted for use?

I think that the bitcoin is currently down so low, but this can not get rid of bitcoin too, although many coins want to replace bitcoin. but bitcoin can not be replaced.

not much altcoins can really have the chance to defeat bitcoin rightnow and may be very long time in the future when bitcoin is so powerful that dominate more than 40% of total market value, it is really not easy for any altcoins want to  replace bitcoin, so i guess bitcoin will stay alive for a very long time form now.

At the moment I don't see such applicants. Bitcoin besttry leader, and drags the whole market. If Bitcoin is in drawdown, the whole market is too...

Thats right . Bitcoin is controlling everything , thats is the main reason that no one can replace it , even if we say that there are a new coin to be developed . but if we are only talking about altcoins , it is really possible for alts to have a competition because they arent controlling the price of each other .  so far , there are many coins that is curently competing to etherium but thankfully etherium did retain its second spot next to bitcoin.

I think that a cryptocurrency wants to go beyond bitcoin, and I need the following:
1. Trading speed is fast
2. A limited number (no way to issue additional)
3. Can be used as a payment method in daily life
4. Anonymity
5. Stable price
Welcome to add

In fact, transcending bitcoin is very simple. This kind of coin must be able to replace cash and can be used as a payment method for daily life! But there is no such cryptocurrency on the market today!

This is a question that many people have raised, but I don't think there are any coins that will surpass Bitcoin. At least for a decade, there may be another war between Bitcoin and USDT.

nothing can replace bitcoin, cause it has already establish its solid foundation way back 2011 and it will become stronger as the year goes by.

I think that in addition to bitcoin, there are many good altcoins in which you can invest. for example: ETH, NEO, WAVES, STRATIS, ZIL. Pretty looking coins, you can get a good profit

I doubt that you know why? You look into Bitcoin has no fundamentals at the back of it no teams, no roadmaps and no projects and how could Bitcoin will stay on the top if like that. Something will replace Bitcoin in the future but right now no one can know what it is.

At the moment, it is difficult for me to allocate coins that are able to overcome bitcoin. But I can say with confidence that bitcoin is not perfect. I'm sure if one day a coin is released that will be equated with 1 gram of gold or carat diamond, it will have a significant advantage. If the coin will have post-mining, fast processing speed and a very low price for the transfer of transactions, then bitcoin will have a serious competitor...

I think the best coin is Bitcoin Cash or Ethereum. Bitcoin has already aged there are far better coins than bitcoin.

That could be a very difficult question had ever asked in this forum correct if I'm wrong because everybody knows that no one has a capability to replace Bitcoin, there is no need to argue all of this things and I'm absolutely right, that's all thank you.

no coins can replace bitcoin . bitcoin's transfer fees are now relatively high and the transfer time is relatively long . however , bitcoin technology has been evolving . the technical team will soon resolve these issues

I believe no other coins can replace on bitcoins expensively and its popularity. Lately, most of the coins are declining its value while bitcoin has start to pumping up. Lets just be hopeful that bitcoin will continue to grow and be persistent. And I assure you its worthy to invest in this asset where we can gain more profits and benefits as long as we have a great patience on holding it.

I think nothing will replace bitcoin, the other crypto coins will not replace bitcoin, because bitcoin is the first coin to be the basis and benchmark of crypto.

I think no altcoin will replace Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the king of the world cryptocurrency, it is the parent of altcoin. Now, Bitcoin is still the strongest, I believe in the future Bitcoin will continue to grow strongly and its price will go to Mars. If Bitcoin ever weakens, I believe that Bitcoin will be replaced by Ethereum. Now is a good opportunity for us to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
