In my opinion a new logo is necessary in order to represent confidence and solidarity to a broader market place.

The new logo should look modern and have crisp feel to it. It should represent the multi-algorithm hashing functionality that Quarkcoin elegantly brings to the crypto space.

For this effort I am personally pledging 50,000.00 100,000.00 QRK for a logo revamp.

The Quark Logo with minor colour and substance changes is literally one of the best logo's ive ever seen .

If Apple team wanted to come up with a better one maybe we should make some calls , but until then  there is only one other possible better logo and we haven't seen that yet and its not for Quark


Personally i'd change the name before the logo , but actually Quark has grown on me .

I like the existing logo better than anything proposed.  It is unique and simple and clean and looks like a nucleus.  win win win.

I agree with Digital Industry.  Put the bounty to something more useful like solving the most crippling outstanding issue...that eventually no matter what amount you try and send it will say it is too large, tacks on a trans fee and still fail to send.  Then you have to -salvagewallet.  And it seems like the amount  needed to trigger the error again and again gets less and less every time.  That issue has affected all my wallets and pretty much has made some of them useless having to use a looping .bat file to send 10 QRK at a time.

I have a feeling that we will have a flood of new logos proposition :P

Should the project change name? NO, NO WAY, don't do that, that would be a HUGE mistake.

Quark is a BRILLIANT name for a crypto currency, and here is WHY:

1. It is immediately recognisable by geeks. Both, physicists and treekies! (That is a way to differentiate in the midst of so many randomly named coins)

2. In the physicist world, a quark is a elementary particle. Metaphorically, we could say there's no crypto currencies without QRKs. Quarks are essential to have.

3. Also, quarks are the only elementary particle in the Standard Model to experience all four fundamental interactions. Metaphorically: +, -, *, and /.

4. It has a meaning directly related to currency. It's the name of a character that has ACCUMULATION OF PROFIT as a life purpose. That in my own opinion is the most amazing reason to stick with it. It's a subconscious reminder, for investors, that this is a good coin for profits. I love this one.

3. Finally. What about the hassle and disturbance and surely depreciation that will follow with a name change? Why do that with such an AWESOME name?

Just in case you want to know my credentials. I'm a logo designer and branding is my field of expertise, and the above is my professional opinion.

Really, you have a winner name here. All it needs to grow is to keep up the good work and a growing community rallying behind it.

If Quark is to be a currency like the Dollar Pound Yen etc then making an overly complicated logo is counterproductive.

You want a logo that can be used as a symbol in a font.  Current logo already meets that.  The current logo in black can be shrunk right down to be used like $ or BTC followed by numeric digits. 

For an example of what I am talking about check out page ~73 on the Bottlecaps thread where a user modified an amazon.com page to have items for sale in Bitcoin, US$ and Bottlecaps (and a proposed Cappachino name change).

I agree completely. Also, making a good & consistent serie of logo + physical + ascii charachter + banners takes times, and now that the bounty is really interesting, you should extend the deadline to end of december to let real graphists work on it (no offense to the already submitted ideas ;)

The issue with the current logo is that will not reduce appropriately, and any other fancy alternative will have the same problem. Keep it simple guys, think Bitcoin, think Litecoin. See what is already working, then explore concepts on how to bring that to Quarkcoin. That is the recipe for success.

I must say that achieving that sort of simplicity is not easy, I know, I do that for a living, but is essential to get Quarkcoins mainstream. It's all about making the QRK brand easy to digest, and obviously, using good design to add value to the project.

If the project doesn't receive any submission of a high standard, we should consider extending the date a bit further, and even raising the bounty to attract more professional entries. Don't underestimate the power of design.

I'll put some time into this myself, but I would also love to see other people's submissions too.

I think there's a better way, something more like Bitcoin and Litecoin. Something as simple as that, would make people look at Quarkcoin, and compare it with Bitcoin, not Ripple. Subconsciously, investors would choose something they already believe it's good.

I'm working on a solution, but not sure if I'll have the time to finish before the deadline. An extension to the deadline is most welcome.

I'm working on a logo redesign, but I just thought I'd point out that a flat version of the original logo is very similar to the Adobe Air logo. Might be close to copyright infringement if Quark really flys

I decided to keep it just as Quark rather than QuarkCoin, kinda like Visa to Mastercard. I can do a physical coin (am thinking a simple white plastic token with the QRK logo somewhat similar to the coin) but that'll take a little bit of time. I have been against a logo change but this is pretty awesome.  Simple yet Bold.  Easy to make into a Font. I like that the Q's tail is internal.

Now, if you don't mind my critique, this logo needs to be simplified. There's too much going on. Make it black and while, and if looks good in black and white, then it will look good ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE. Also, be sure it looks good in a very small size.

What this one has going for it is this..  a symbol.  That Q with the vertical squiggly can easily serve utility as the symbol for this currency.  Like $ is for the dollar.

The term 'quark' brings to mind particles of the universe.  hmm... universe.  universal.  A universal currency.  OK bingo now we're on to something.

From now on.  just quark.  drop the 'coin'.

Im sold on the market performance.  But still dont see what this cryptocurrency brings to the table.  "Secure" hashing?  Are all the others somehow LESS secure?  If most of the coins are in the hands of a small few, better start pumping them out slowly so as to distribute it out, if you want it to go big, and eventually be in use to buy things other than just traded back and forth like litecoin.  Just not gambling shit.  PLEASE GOD NOT THAT.  Thats when you your coin has no future, if you primarily use it for gaming.

No offense but that logo has no appeal to your average investor scrolling through the long list of "coins". Too much going on and too bland, just my 2 Quarks.

well thats kind of what I mean.  the orbits were too busy (too much going on) and it did need more of an elegant look (too bland).  But I like the idea of the symbol we could utilize.

Actually the more I think about it the less I question it, for this reason:  To write the symbol by hand it will look too much like a 0 or a O.  Worse yet, its would be the same as an upside down "power on" symbol.  The graphic itself is good as a symbol, IMO, since its got a wide border, but that will be rough to replicate by hand.

Regardless though, I like the idea of a symbol, not on an extruded looking coin like all the others, to represent the quark.  Sure, the symbol itself could be extruded graphically if so desired, though of course when written manually itd only have a 2D effect.

ETA:  lols and those 2 quark you gave us is not quite worth 1cent ATM.  Maybe tomorrow????  Hope so..

Why is it important to have an ASCII character? Because it celebrates Quarks as a real currency like: $, £ — and rival BTC too!

Why is that important? The logo and the currency symbol MUST match. It will help us get RIGHT logo for Quarks.

About it:
When I read / hear about quarkcoin I think: science, quantum physics and engineering. So the logo and branding relates to those concepts. The currency symbol - Q - is always within a sphere, like an atom.
The underlying reference should be quite straightforward for anyone!
I believe it visually tells to the non-tech savvy what quarkcoin really is - reliable, secure and efficient. I'm completely open to evolutions / modifications of this design in case it was the prefered one. All graphics are vector based.

I think this will be the cryptocurrency with the most expensive logo ever. :D

Just to get this clear: Does the logo need to contain "Quarkcoin" or only "Quark"???

In my honest opinion, Quark sounds and looks better than Quarkcoin. You probably will also say for example 5 Quarks and not 5 Quarkcoins, so it would be the best choice to use Quark in the logo and leave the coin.

But the official name on the other hand is Quarkcoin.  :-\

I find that quarkcoin has the best logo so far. Why change it?
If you make it look a bit more metallic (the center and the edge), and perhaps get a slight solid touch.

Wallet looks nice. But in my opinion Quark needs a step in the modern direction, don't follow the design of every other coin logo as a template. Quark needs to differentiate itself in the steps taken towards being accepted in the next generation of good Alts.

I do like this logo a lot but I really think that a coin called Quark (which, imho has the advantage of having the most brandable name of all coins after bitcoin itself) needs to somehow integrate the idea of a quark/physics/etc. At least subtly.

The original logo is what got me interested in QRK in the first place. It was different and immediately branded in my mind. But it does need an update. These are the slickest examples I've seen of how that could be accomplished.

I have a full day/night ahead of me so I won't be able to revise/throw in any more versions until tomorrow and I'd still entertain more feedback before committing to changes - however I'll say this openly:

I stopped taking on design clients back in 2007 and became 'my own client' starting brands online like crazy until some of them popped and I scaled them - did well, got into crypto. I understand branding and growth/continuity in campaigning/versioning/business aspects that correlate with how the brand is packaged as a whole etc. It was only because I'm heavily invested that I decided to take a crack at this and put in real effort - I'd LOVE to see the brand grow FAR beyond where it is now and if I win - you guys have basically got yourselves an internal brander that will create tons of marketing assets out of my own free will throughout and to help the community. I enjoy this part of the process, and have overhauled many brands that were positioned poorly in the market so give me something to play with and improve and present to the world for maximum conversions, and I'm in my zone for days/weeks making something beautiful come to life that markets love (I also really enjoy split-testing everything).

Sorry for the runon, just want to to say I'm an oldschooler and feel this is an important part of the journey, you're not just picking a logo/designer here imo - you're making or breaking your packaging and potential future success of QRK :)

Agree 100% (for whatever that's worth). Not to take away from any of the other designers here, there are many awesome designs. But the original logo caught my eye and got me interested in QRK in the first place so I have a soft spot for that design. And this is the best 'update' for that design I've seen.

Here are some starting concepts from our team. We have approached it from a more traditional currency look and have worked on keeping the logo so it could be represented as an ascii character which would help strengthen the brand.

This is more a tweak of the original bringing in the green to balance out the red and blue these 3 colours generally appear on most of the  "quark" diagrams I've seen. The colours pop slightly more so still looks good in small scale this logo is completely .svg format so is entirely scalable with minimal gloss, shadows etc.

In my opinion the golden one is too golden. It looks really great, but gold referes to Bitcoin. And there should be no confusion. If qrk ever beats Bitcoin in volume, we can make it golden ;)

The other day searching Quarks info I see this contest,so here is my try.
I readed from avoid gold from logo because BTC is associated with it.One of my versions it´s made with gold,but not only gold, I think Quarks can be a mix of gold+tech+little bit of "radioactivity" and modern too.So one of my versions is based in that idea an the other has a white modern look.

Just something I put together tonight.

I used some of the logos submitted for the logo design contest (specifically I used ones by users Mjbmonetarymetals and cryptoBoomer and I used Quark forum's quarkbro's infographic). If anyone objects to my using their artwork, please let me know and I will remove it immediately.

Just going for the overall feel at this stage. Everything is changeable.

Of course, I'll replace the logos with whoever ends up winning the contest. I just wanted to get the site up.

Hey guys, that is an excellent entry, but the cherry on the cake would be a Unicode symbol for it.

The whole fuzz about Bitcoin is its potential as currency, hence the BTC symbol has a huge importance in the investor perception.

If you create an ASCii symbol for Quarks replicating your logo, this concept is going to get a lot more popular.

That's even nice but in my humble opinion the colors are over-saturated.

I think the site mock-up looks great!!, I'm not a fan at all of the background or the Shadow effects etc. on or around the logo as I think they look too dated, I've pm'ed you the background and logo in case you agree  ;D

The colors are the best, i don't think they are oversaturated. Actually makes it look good and stand out.

For me, personally, though...the blue & purple aren't doing it for me. I love the layout, the logo, the background, everything except the color.

Actually, I'm not going to update the site yet. Once I thought about it, it's not fair to do that in the middle of the contest. I said I'd switch the site to the logo/design of whoever wins, and I will. But there's less than a month left in the contest. I think it's best to just leave it as-is until then.

So I do thank Mjbmonetarymetals and cryptoBoomer for allowing me to use their work (with my own added tweaks) for the current state of the site, and I just want to stress that I'm not trying to give them an undue advantage. There are plenty of designs here that I like as much or even more than theirs. Their styles just happened to go with the idea I had for the site.

I want this site to be for the community and I will change it to suit whatever style the community decides to go with.

I'm working on an identity myself, but meanwhile, I thought it would be nice to write a few words on the competition so it reaches people beyond the crypto-currency world. Guys i am quite new to the cryptocurrencies world, but in this short time i slowly felt in love with the original logo.
i think there's absolutely no need to change it, it's great, fresh, recognizable and unique among all the other coin logos.
the only thing, i'd suggest to renew it with a more flat feel, for example i would have a flat spot in the middle instead of the metallic feel, take off the shadows effects, and most of all a thinner external circle, too bold now

Have to admit I'm struggling a bit here! I've been trying hard to come up with a fresh and crisp *new* logo for Quark, representing everything it stands for. As far as I know, this is the primary objective of this logo contest. On the other hand I noticed some *influencing* people prefer the current logo as is, without too much change, or at least a clear reference to it's predecessor. ;) Although I'm pleased with my logo, it doesn't serve both camps!

So what to do? Stick to the original objective of this contest or focus on finding a balance between the two perceptions instead?

Not sure how alive this competition is, however thought I'd throw a concept out there I've been playing with:

Having looked through these logo threads I am surprised there has not been more emphasis on the security aspect of Quark in the concepts - what I believe to be one of it's key features defining it as a solid cryptocurrency. I've tried to incorporate that idea in the most elegant fashion into the coin design (whilst including the shape that has become synonymous, for some, with Quark).

Why am I seeing this logo already on a official twitter, FB page and quarkcoin.cc? Am I missing something?

You're not. It's very close to the original logo, which everyone likes and still uses (which is what you're seeing on those sites).

In my opinion, this contest will fizzle out because it's too late to change the Quark logo now. It either had to be done very early after launch, or MUCH later down the road when the brand has its own legs and doesn't rely on the logo as much. Right now, changing the logo will only confuse people.

But that's just my 2 cents.

No logo as been decided as far as I'm aware, a couple of quark forum users asked if they could use the logo I designed For their particular projects twitter, Facebook etc. I'm sure these will be adapted in line with whatever updated logo is chosen. I've not discussed any logo designs in private with FlipPro whose heading up this bounty.

Here's my final entry for this contest! It was a great challenge to find balance between a completely new logo (primary goal of this contest) and to include elements from the current logo. It seems many people think the current logo is great as it is. That's a discussion that will likely continue after this contest. In my opinion the winner is someone who took serious effort to come up with something high quality, new and refreshing.

I ended up with three scalable logo's. The first logo is the new one. The Q represents Quark: speed, security, safety, confidence, solidarity and simplicity. The Q embraces the core (Earth).
The second logo is my redesign of the current logo, trying to balance out the elements it contains. It's now fresh and crisp with everything in correct proportions.
The third logo is a combination of the the previous ones. If you think about it.. I like the idea.. I've tried to keep everything as simple and clean as possible and focus on what matters most for now. In my opinion usage of the logo's can be combined.. They are modular (each element/logo can represent a specific purpose and they can be combined to form a whole), recognizable and will stick in the head!

Also, take a good look at the Quark text and subtext. It's solid, scalable, elegant and.. recognizable.. I've seen way too many logo's with text too thin or not scaled/positioned the way it should be.

I really like the retro-feel from the current logo. So I've tried to incorporate that retro feel in my logo's as well. The color palettes used support this retro earthy look and feel. And even more important, it gives a feeling of where Quark is at right now! I would strongly advise against using too many colors and too many elements in a logo. Simplicity is key which is a very hard (and time-consuming) thing to accomplish!

It was great fun to create the physical coins. Six rings each.. The inner circle of the red-green-blue coins each represent a part of the earth. Look from a distance and you'll notice the multidimensional effect in there. Together they form a whole.. Again, only added elements that matter.

As mentioned before I'm willing to participate in the development of the official Quark website and give it the Quality it deserves. That is, if my logo('s) is/are selected. ;) And I'm not only talking pixels here!

I made this logo in an attempt to show the security of Quark. The colors represent the individual quarks making up a proton, and the quarks are on a lock that is on top of the coin representing that quarks security works down to the elementary level. I tried to keep the look of the original logo in some respects so that is still recognizable as Quark. This is my submission, I've been unable to access the Quarktalk forum for a few days now. I keep getting SQL errors. I'll keep trying.

I have created a simple logo that inspires security and integrity. The design consists of a shield with an oblique line running through it to form a "Q". I think this design meets the criteria for a currency symbol. It is simple enough to be printed clearly and distinctively as a typeface. It is simple enough that it can be written easily and quickly by hand. It captures the essential strengths of the Quarkcoin currency and presents them with a clean, confident and powerful new identity.

All my designs are vector based so they will look clean and clear at any scale.

Martijnp's work is amazing!  :o Mvag is also excellent. I slightly prefer Mvag because it's slightly more readable as a Q, but both would be great choices.

I think something similar to a rubix cube encompasses the most commercially relatable idea of what encryption is(and the squares in it formed "Q"). I custom made the font to go along with it. Clean, simple, and easy to understand.

This is what I came up with. I am not a designer and so it might be a little rough around the edges, but I still thought the idea had some merit. If selected, I would be happy to donate most or all of the bounty to someone who would be able to make it a workable design (because this is as far as my design abilities extend  :))

Anyway, when creating the design, my three main goals were to make something simple & recognizable, to include the quark element of the original design, and to present it as a currency. I think it turned out alright. Hope you all enjoy!

@FlipPro: You asked us to design different elements (logo+text, quark accepted button, coins, physical coins and perhaps even an ascii-character). Many designers have submitted designs where some of these elements are missing. In many cases, they focussed on a single element and in some they cases provided variations of this element (which is nice!). To me it seems fair to split the voting into different categories. Community can then pick a favorite design for each category.

Split results in a 50% vote for community and 50% vote for competition funders.

Not only is this way of voting fair. The end-results will give you an idea of what community is looking for. It could very well be a combination of designs from different designers. I think the design-phase doesn't necessarily have to end here..

You are wrong, it wasn't in original requirements. Here is the original task from TC:

As you can see, there is no requirement for: text, quark accepted button, coins, physical coins and perhaps even an ascii-character. And the goal is: "The creation of a NEW LOGO, not just all design." It was revard for LOGO only. And there is one more bounty 300k qrk for all stuff you mentioned.

Perhaps it would have been better to include this in the opening post, but it just wasn't.. Many did exactly what was asked for so it shouldn't be such a big deal. In my case I've put -A LOT- of extra effort in delivering all the required elements! This will be the same for all the others that submitted a complete entry. Perhaps it's best to divide the 120k over each category. Everyone should have a fair chance! It's up to FlipPro to decide what to do.. I'm sure he figures out something!

It was an extremly bad idea to post aditional reqirement NOT in the first post. It's not the strict rule to use only first post for rules description, TC can decide how it should go, but anyway it wasn't posted neither here, not on quarktalk (and it was possible and easy to edit first post at anytime, so it's quite odd that FlipPro haven't made it). So a LOT of those who took a part in this contest have never seen this "extra" post with adition rule before. It's up to FlipPro to decide what to do next, but it would be strange desition to use this rule for filtering 80% of submited logos :o

Exactly, and whoever wins can just make this additional designs. I'll be happy to do a 3D render of Quark coin, like I did for Lottocoin.

All these opinions.. For sure there's plenty to argue about. It's impossible to please everyone. Just let the man decide and leave it with that! In the end he's the one providing the funds..

There is nothing to argue about. Basically we should follow these 3 principles, otherwise why do we need cryptocurrencies at all :)
If someone will not follow simple justice and trust, than all this competition would be just another scam (as it's possible to steal any of submitted logos without paying the bounty to artist and just use it >:()

Yeah, I applied for membership right when I found out it was back up, posted a couple things on the only thing I could post in, and stayed logged in for like half a day. Still can't post or comment, also preventing me from posting my submission, which WAS entered on here before the deadline. Kinda irritating that these new submission requirements have popped up as well...

The only thing I can do is influence the voters on who I think should be the winner. For that I will wait till the vote is actually live.

Seems to be a pattern of people holding contests and disappearing: Balthazar (novacoin logo contest), Coinhoarder (physical bitcoin design) etc etc

Think there needs to be a standard set where all contest payments are escrowed to mods beforehand.

5! I've never left any neg trust but from now on I will be calling people out who abandon contests/change rules. Worst is when the OP decides you have to submit entries on their own forum, makes me wonder if they use sockpuppets to vote for their own design (disclaimer: not accusing the OP of doing that)

IMO The font should be the same on the main logo as on the 'accepted here' logos. I prefer the Main logo font for quark - it almost looks knowing retro.

Have you decided what time on Friday it begins and how long it will last?

I'm guessing that there will be some sort of entry display for the logos. I'm sure we all feel we need exposure to insure our designs get seen. I'm just curious if the images will be part of the voting thread or if it will be an external link.
