Title: Possible effect of potential billionaire investor?
Post by: Kim Ji Won on April 07, 2018, 05:10:48 AM
Most of you have probably heard about George Soros (https://news.bitcoin.com/george-soros-is-rumored-to-be-investing-in-cryptocurrency/) a billionaire who is reportedly taking an interest in cryptocurrency trading. Just before this event, he's been negative on bitcoin, calling it a bubble and etc, but with his sudden interest now in trading with his $26 billion assets, I guess we could probably say that he saw the potential of cryptocurrencies.

How do you think will this affect the market and all the user of cryptos? Can we expect a price spike in the market then after a while, a sudden downtrend movement again?

If George Soros even puts just a billion into the market then we will see a price hike and a massive one at that because that would mean there is much demand and once people see prices start going up, then they will start buying in too thereby increasing the price.

I don’t consider George Soros as loyal investor, honestly with his controversial involvement in destabilising from country to country this won’t be a good things cryptocurrency. His idea of using money to manipulate things will only make this community more in danger.

First impression last as they say, for what he have said before their is a big possibility and other whales will dominate and manipulate to crash the market for his advantage.

I do not know much about this issue, whether it is influential or not, this is important to bring positive news. there will be no spikes, most of us will see prices in the market begin to rise again slowly in the next few days, if the spike occurs quickly then the potential for a sudden crash will always overshadow the price. Right away the market will pump up the price and we will soon leave this bear market downtrend / market.

That billionaire is not a risk taker we know that bitcoin is worth risking for. people are getting such an FUD and sell all their tokens because they knew that one of the most rich person said that it is bubble. we should consider also that many people get rich by using btc.

If there is truth in that he wants to invest in cryptocurrency I think that does not change things dramatically,it is probably very small amount just for testing how things works. The fact about his billions of wealth can act psychologically on people in connection with investments in BTC,but we all know such people do not invest too much money in risky projects.

By the Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Soros) , Soros net worth is "only" 8 billion $,and he donating rest of the money to his philanthropic agency-so I guess his time is close to end,he is 87 years old.

Well, that would be pretty much an interesting thing to happen because clearly, if this George Soros guy invests with billions, it will really affect the price of bitcoins big time or any altcoin in the market. Of course if the price increases, there will be a domino effect due to the fear of missing out which will drive the prices even higher. The only thing that makes me worry about this is what if this guy or a number of people like him that got into this industry decides to team up and do a pump and dumb scheme on this market. That would mean thousands of losses for small investors like us. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Maybe if this is indeed George Soros to invest billions of dollars, but for me it will not be a big spike, where bitcoin is now more money withdrawal, maybe for bigger spikes take a long time but very good for the future. but was very surprised that someone who spread the negative news but invested in cryptocurrency, maybe he was not aware of the true bitcoin strength, fed up with such people.

If he finds crypto more interesting to invest in terms of creating different companies using crypto transactions, maybe there might be a big spike in crypto because of it needs more crypto to transact, so the demand will get higher with this development.

Why the sudden U-turn though? Him and Warren Buffet has been attacking bitcoin specially during the height last December. Of course a billion thrown in the market will really change the complexion of the game. The price will start to pick up and soon we will get to 5 digits again. I really don't know if he really is going to invest on crypto, but if this is true then its the needed boost that we all have been waiting for.

He's known as a shorter and as someone who usually manipulates and crashes markets, so I doubt we'll see something positive from his adventures in the crypto market. Also, the timing seems odd, why would he want to invest now? In my opinion, I don't think someone like him would tell the average joe that he's going to start trading cryptocurrencies, I bet he's been doing it for quite a while now....maybe he's been shorting since January, who knows.

I bet he has ulterior motives. But if by the time he puts his money in crypto we'll wait for that price increase. We really need more investment to increase the value of bitcoin so it will be of great help. But we have to be careful with his tactics. We just have to be ready by the time he will dump it.

That's what I've been saying. A sudden turn of an event coming from him, a person who's always been on the negative side of bitcoin especially when bitcoin reached its peaked last December. Imagine George investing $1 billion of his wealth to crypto at $7000, we all know that it's price will surely spike. So let's say that it will increase at $10,000/bitcoin after he invested, even if he doesn't wait for bitcoin's price to increase even more and decided to sell at that price, he would end up with $1,428,571,428, that's almost a 50% from his initial investment.

The millionaire will contribute to increasing the demand for the cryptocurrencies in whichever currencies he invests in resulting in the rise of the values of those coins and the market cap would also start increasing and the circulating cap would also rise as more traders would start making trades through the coins during the skyrocketing period.
The bottom line is there will be a hot ambience in the market as it will start to gradually rise and get stabilized after a period of the currencies at high rates waiting to rise again until it attracts more such investors.

This news of George soros is a good news because such controversial billion is going to bring some attraction, attention and confidence in the market. Although from what I read, he isn't investing all the $26 billion but taking a decision to venture in as a critic will help in the media and more trust will be regained in the social webs like facebook, google, youtube , twitter etc.

If he invest all his asset worth of $26 Billion into cryptos then surely it will make a spike in the crypto currency field. :D

But I don't think he will,I consider this as just a rumour created by someone who want to make green in the crypto market after the long red days.

Two effects will as usual.

Good - when he put billions of his assets to cryto or to bitcoin to be specific then that will pump the market.

Bad - another manipulator will come and expect that when it reaches highs, expect that he will take profit in billions too.

If I was him, I would just put some of money into cheap coins, in old ones, who been here  for 3 or more years and everyone heard about them. Then I would talk with their CEO about upcoming events and offer them my help. And then I would just start invest in advertisement and do it till it will not create an tendetion, then I will just start selling my coins in 4 steps (to not create panic and get midle result).

Of course not. Firstly, someone being worth like $26 billion doesn't mean he has that exact amount in liquid capital, where secondly, these traditional billionaires never pump tremendous amounts of capital into something they see as a plaything. I very much doubt that he will allocate even $10 million to be invested in crypto, especially because of how much of a new and speculative market it still is for him. People shouldn't forget that these traditional billionaires more often than not don't see any good in Bitcoin because it lacks intrinsic value according to them. While I am mildly optimistic about this, I am maintaining my conservative stance till I see an actual change for the better. In this market you can't take anything for face value, that the market has taught us throughout the years....

Let's not confuse trading and investing. The CNBC and Bloomberg articles both recite the same statement: internal approval to trade virtual currencies. The crypto media is putting a more positive slant on it. I didn't see mention of hedge fund investment. We shouldn't automatically assume the money Soros puts into the market will be net positive. Trading includes margin shorting, puts, calls, options, etc and not just buying spot and investing.

And remember, Soros is famous for shorting the markets. He famously made billions of dollars by shorting the pound in the 90s. He's bet heavily against the S&P 500 and Nasdaq more recently. I'm not saying that's what he plans to do here, but everyone here seems to think he'll just dump $26 billion into BTC or something. That's unlikely. :P

The market of bitcoin is sort of a perfect competition where one individual seller/buyer's share in the market is insignificant. The demand and supply forces determine the prices, that means, buyers and sellers will throw for different rates, until both ends meet, price is influenced by that.
Just because George Soros has $26 billion assets, doesn't necessarily change the price. I bet not even 10% of crypto users even know him. No one cares. The news, the more exciting and factual ones help in affecting the price.

I assume that his involvement in trading will be minimal in that it will be a small part of what he invests in. I’m not clear on whether the trading he will be doing will be personal investment or part of his business, but either way, I suspect that he will just be adding this as just another way to diversify. There are plenty of other millionaires and billionaires already investing in cryptocurrencies, so I don’t think it will make a huge impact other than further legitimizing Bitcoin.

Sometimes is good to read previous posts, and then you will see that Soros net worth in not 26 billion $,but only 8 billion $.He donated 18 billions $ to his philanthropic agency and that money is now allegedly in the service of some greater good, not for investments of any kind.

I agree he and some of his people who are engaged in investments will not invest no significant amount of money in cryptocurrency, therefore I think it would be better not to take this news seriously.Considering Soros past it would be best that he never invests even one cent in BTC.

Many people become billionaires thanks to bitcoin profits because they are terrible night. When you have a lot of money you are not afraid of losing money but boldly.

There is a big impact when a billionaire invest in cryptocurrency. Probably, the price may pull out and the demand will strongly push. In fact, manipulation of market price can be done by a billionaire man. If he will buy bitcoins a lot, bitcoin price will surge. If he will sell all of his cryptos then it may change the game.
Popular people like George Soros spread a FUD news in bitcoin because he wanted to invest in a lower price. That's how a popular can fool ordinary people when it comes in business and trading.

Off course these kind of people can make great moves into the crypto currency when it comes to the big assets. Just imagine man 26 billion dollar in todays date is around 20% of the whole market cap of the bitcoin.  ;D
If George sneezes then I am pretty sure he can move the market by 5K USD +/- depending on what he is doing whether he is selling the equivalent amounts or buying the same. Thats all about the money and it has the greatest power that you can imagine with this act. So yeah if many people like this come together then can bless the whole market otherwise they can make it loose too.

Billionaire can use their money power and influential in investments. Look at how Goerge Soros used his strengths in order for him to invest in crypto. Before he lend his money in bitcoin, he said a  lot negative and bad effects of bitcoin to the humanity. Hence, the people who follows Soros made it as basis for them to stay away and withdraw in bitcoin. However, I think he made it because he want to invest more in a lower price.
Influence + money = more profits. That's how I think in some whales in cryptocurrency, not just whales but influential people.

According the demand and supply, if that Billionaire buy Bitcoin with a very huge volume, then it means there is much need for Bitcoin, and hereby, the price of Bitcoin will tend to be uptrend, because there will not have more supply than previous, and there we can get advantage of it of course, if we have bitcoin we can sell it :) But for other option, the price can decrease as well, because if the price is over, what if majority of people sell bitcoin, in that time the price will go down, which means the fluctuation of the value continues step by step.

If George Soros starts investing in the encrypted currency, he will have a special guiding role for other big investment institutions and large investors. Many investors will be affected to pay attention to bitcoin. Of course, I hope this is just a conjecture, because George Soros often manipulate the market maliciously, which is perhaps a FUD made by whale deliberately.

Maybe referrals could happen from his links to other people and they could also invest in here. I don't know how many stocks did he already invested at but as saying a billionaire investor in a context that will invest in this large game is an encouragement to other people also to invest just like what I had pointed out previously, the referrals. Externally from his link, other investor could hurriedly play the game and buy more before the price rocket gets lifted after George's initial ride in cryptocurrency.

Well, the way I see it, this happening to the industry at a time like this would be really great. This would mean a huge push to the prices of bitcoins which then would drag all the other altcoins in this market to be valued even higher. This would eventually cause a domino effect in terms of investing because other billionaires will jump in also if they see that other billionaires are also making gambles in this industry. And then small people(investors), seeing the hype happening or the uptrend, will obviously be investing also which will make the prices even higher and attract even more investors.

I do not hear news about him, great effects, if he wants to invest, would indeed be there. odds on crypto including bitcoin is indeed very good and very promising, but I'm not sure a very rich as she is fully willing to invest his money in a very high risk. probably still a lot of things are more promising to be invested.

Either do I but if he has asset over $ 20 million, it's surely will affect on bitcoin value globally.
I can't wait to see another uptrend but it's become difficult when you're depend on 1 investor but it's will be easier for 1 government

Investing with a huge amount is a way to attract people and make more profit. Such huge investments by billionaires are the  reason of  the price fluctuations. earlier when the price goes down. These billionaires invest in crypto currencies and own a huge number of coins which automatically decrease the supply and so the price increase. When people see that the price is increasing they invest in bitcoin again and when the price increased more those billionaires withdrew their coin which again makes the the price low.

No one has any more authority than anyone else. Anyone who wants to use bitcoin can. George Soros can't stop you from using bitcoin and you can't stop him either. Fair money.
The monopoly concept comes into my mind when I read a statement like this. The entry of some one who invest in huge amount or in bulk will rise the prices of the coin because he would hold a huge amount and in most such cases, he might become even the price maker. Correct me if I am wrong. This is because the aggregate demand and supply will be affected id he demands or try to sell. Such are the possible effects of the entry of potential billionaire investors

This looks more like a contrived story so far. If Soros were actually going to invest in crypto massively, the price would have surged already. But we are still stuck in a range where we have been trading for a couple of weeks by now (if not for longer). Obviously, the market doesn't believe that Soros is actually going to pour his money into Bitcoin, otherwise we would be in an uptrend today. So it is just a rumor intended to raise interest toward crypto but it seems like it didn't make it.

As much as I don't like him for his politics and for funding various organizations, but if he's seriously going for BTC investment, I highly encourage him, all more of them, to do so. :p

I don't know much about Soros to be honest. However, supposing that someone actually invested millions of dollars in Bitcoin ($26 Billion sounds a little too extravagant to be exact), the first consequence would be a spike in price. Moreover, an investment like this would possibly attract media/investor attention, which could actually attract way more people into business and everything it entails.

Absolutely I agree because some whales are always manipulate the market for their own advantage. It's ok if their whales or investor in the market but the whales who's not always manipulate and take a advantage because they can help the small ones. I think that person cannot be loyal in crypto  if he have bad image in the pass.

We all know that bad statements coming from well known economists, bankers and businessmen affects the market, I guess George Soros did the same way also to influence the price to fall down so he can have an opportunity to enter the market and maximimize his capital at the same time.

Well, if he plan to invest in btc then its price will pump up since $26 billion investment is huge.

In the other hand, millionaires and billionaires could be attracted due to this event, how about the economy people? They have a bigger effect on the market and let's be honest around 79%-85% are consists of economy family, and I do belong to it, (No discrimination on my mind), though point is if money keeps coming on market not only ICO taking all the money and disappear before their token reach the market exchange, BTC value will increase and so as the others and when this happens, this is paradise.

and yeah... they have the potential factor to affect the BTC price with their awesome money.

I think the question was more about the effect on price if a trader like Soros (with his $26 billion) entered the market. And the answer is, we have no idea, because we don't know whether he's bullish or bearish, or what instruments he's interested in.

He was a bully on Bitcoin calling it a bubble constantly, whether it was on articles or twitter, it sparked up rumors and FUD.

Its a welcome news for Bitcoin, still, the question is, when they are investing, how much amount of investment they willing to put in for Bitcoin? This news  is not actually unusual for Bitcoin, some whales are already invested in Bitcoin with low key names, everyone is interested in Bitcoin investment, it is just a matter of time when almost everybody is into crypto currency investment.

Then this Billionaire:  George Soros is considered as one of the richest big whales in the market that uses wealth to maneuverer the Bitcoin prices after he had termed it to be Bubble, that he now understands the potentials and rudiments of these Cryptos in the market which is a bit fair since prices will spike because of scarce demands for Bitcoin, but would not be very appropriate in the cryptoworld, because no matter the price surge, the downtrend volatility is eminent and shall equally soon surfaces. However, I don't think there should be any cause for alarm other than the individual should maintain self integrity on any scenarios that ramificate against this arena.

Yeah I think that because bitcoin is more like a currency / store of value, it's going to be really interesting if it eats into the notional value of gold (in the trillions, 4 or 5 trillion?) or into the notional value of FOREX (in the quadrillions).

I don't have a crystal ball, but the numbers get nuts really fast.

Bitcoins current price reflects what the Market thinks right now what the future value is (in tension), so right now the Market doesn't agree .... but the higher the price goes (if the liquidity and volume is there too), the more bitcoin can do and the higher it can go.

Given the amount of capital he has, i wouldn't be surprised if news leaks out that he was already part and parcel of the spike that brought bitcoin to $20k. I just hope he won't whale it up by sellin everything once the market is in an all time high then buying again when it is low. It would ultimately deoend on how he will move his investments. If we can go with the flow of his manipulation the it would be better for us though it is so hard to speculate when will it be happening so that we can get in. How do you think will this affect the market and all the user of cryptos? Can we expect a price spike in the market then after a while, a sudden downtrend movement again?
After two months of posting this, does the billionaire really invested that $26 billions?i think he doesnt because market will surely moves up if this is what he does

But since that two months of waiting it seems nothing happens.maybe the man change his name and cancelled hes plan of investing

If you're trader from 2010 , bitcoin value may be affect because as we are know , bitcoin value depend on supply and demand so it's a little bit easy being manipulate for some group of whale trader !

It is amazing how one person single has such great amount of money.  I think with his potential he can just destroy all this market by once. Having this amount of money is highly dangerous.

Well the fact is he's just able manipulate less than 1% !

Although Soros called the digital assets a ‘bubble’ in January, as far as I heard he is currently planning to start trading cryptocurrency. If a big whale like him will start trading crypto we can see more whales like him coming in and giving a legitimate approval for the whole crypto and blockchain world.

Yeah price hike will happen if ever he pour his billions of assets on the market. He can also manipulate the market depending on the coin he want to invest in. If we can go with the flow of his manipulation the it would be better for us though it is so hard to speculate when will it be happening so that we can get in. Maybe George is now planning what coin and when he will be playing with us and the market.
We know the influence that investors give to the crypto market. they have a capital that can be practically unlimited. so they can change and manipulate the market price on a coin. but I think bitcoin will be more difficult. look at marketcap and the larger current total of users

Definitely he swallow his negative words about Bitcoin/cryptocurrency  ;D. By his joining in crypto world i think this has a big effect in crypto market cause there is another price manipulator representing by him, with those assets he invested i think he can pump or drastically dump the crypto he will going to choose.

I don't think you can put billions of dollars into any coin without moving the price up. And that could be very risky for a billionaire. A lot of money to lose.

I don't think it's a matter of swallowing his words, but rather understanding how the markets work. He's not going to say kind things have the value rise and then buy in. He's going to say bad things, have the value drop, buy, then say good things.

It may not be one individual it will be many institutions buying this cheap price as that is the near about bottom of this time so anyone would like to buy from that price. Thus due to many people and institution buying at the same time has resulted in the price rise.

I mean, yeah, it can and probably is a lot of wealthy individuals. But since the OP is talking about a billionaire investor, I'm just saying that putting billions would be too risky, because that can raise the price, and then others might dump. Thus the individual losing money. If he were to invest now.

If he trully would start investing and trading in cryprocurrency it could really help increase the market demand of cryptocurrency since he has a worth of billion dollars of assets.

Should he comes in with his billion dollars, market will certainly a sudden price spike, other billions will want to try it. But in the long run, they will off load their fund and downward trend will start, we only need dedicated investors here and not experimental investors.

Correct. It's pretty much a guaranteed way to lose if you try to enter by blindly buying your way up in a market that has barely any liquidity. It's impossible to buy or sell large amounts for a fair price on exchanges.

I am however sure that large investors aren't that ignorant to fall for it. They are very conservative of nature and would likely prefer to open positions through futures and other cash settled financial tools.

Most of these investors just want the exposure but not the asset, so the cash settled tools are perfect in that regard. At some point the volumes of these financial tools will surpass the volumes of the spot markets.

I have seen an article about George Soros where he did not believe in bitcoin however, when there is a dump he invested with it. I don't know how truth the article is but if when conclude the scenario, George is just spreading FUD news in order to grab the opportunity to buy bitcoin. If like him will invest in crypto, there is a possibility that he will gain double times than what he had.

If George Soros even puts just a billion into the market then we will see a price hike and a massive one at that because that would mean there is much demand and once people see prices start going up, then they will start buying in too thereby increasing the price.

Nobody  puts a billion dollars into crypto, to even suggest anyone would gives you an idea how hyped up your own expectations are and how unreasonable they are as well. When Soros was calling Bitcoin a bubble, he was right. In case of have noticed, Bitcoin has crashed more than 60% since December and has stayed down. That's a bubble bursting. Soros isn't interested in Bitcoin as an asset, he's interested in Bitcoin businesses that capitalize off people who think it's not a bubble, like exchanges or transfer services. To not understand the difference is to be one who makes people like Soros rich.

If his shown an interest in bitcoin and invested 26 billion of his assets then the price should surely to spike. In fact the price has surge to 6596 dollars. I can't blame him for showing such interest even big firms and platforms are showing interest in bitcoin such as Microsoft, alibaba even wall street traders.

Any billionaire taking interest in crypto is a good news. But I am cautious because the billionaire in question is Soros. He is having a negative view on crypto and most likely he would like to get a profit by crashing the exchange rates.

It would ultimately depend on how the investor will invest and how long that investor will hold on to the coins. For example that investor bought 26 billion worth of bitcoin, then you will definitely see a sudden spike in the market. Now if that investor held their coins then all in good, but if they sell everything that's when you will see a huge dip.

I don’t consider George Soros as loyal investor, honestly with his controversial involvement in destabilising from country to country this won’t be a good things cryptocurrency. His idea of using money to manipulate things will only make this community more in danger.

First impression last as they say, for what he have said before their is a big possibility and other whales will dominate and manipulate to crash the market for his advantage.
if everyone hopes prices rise automatically we all need someone like George Soros because by him as a big investor haga can rise and if many people like George Soros most likely the price will return to normal...

If an investor is just getting ready to invest and if he is a billionaire then i think that it will pump the coin or stock that he will be buying because he will be investing a huge amount of volume of money to the coin or stock which is the cause for a hype because other people will use it to make rumors and hype other people to buy also so the pump will continue.

True, but I would imagine that just like Warren Buffett, there will be someone taking over once he croaks--but then again, I don't know much about Soros other than he's a massively wealthy guy.

Soros would be considered a whale, because there's no way he'd be investing just a little amount.  If he bought some bitcoin, or any other crypto, it would probably move the market in an upward direction.  But somehow I can't imagine that he'd be keeping it for a long time, or even that he'd be investing in it in the first place.  And you also have to think about when someone like him sells it.  That could easily crash the market.  He'd have to do both the buying and selling in "small" increments so as not to move it too much.

Lol, maybe others has given him a plan. You know the normal thing they do, and by the way he’s not the first billionaire to be investing money in cryptocurrency, there have been others, one of which I can remember.

The normal thing which they do is invest money and withdraw once huge have made enough profits and convinced the poor investors to put in money. That’s why it’s good to have target and withdraw when you think it’s right. Some people are greedy and they are the ones that keeps on losing.
