I'm guessing 1 year. The placement of more ATMs as well as multiple companies deciding to create their own alt-coins, the Bitcoin world is going to see some demand for coins soon like never before.

I was really being a facetious ass. A random answer to an unanswerable question. I understand, and I like the debate, but this is an argument that has very little to no solid basis for picking any expectations. You mention that this is really a matter of "when" rather than "if". If we're to consider all things objectionably, it could never hit $1k, and there's many ways such a result could come to be. I don't expect that scenario, but all that can really be discussed are likelihoods. Probabilities. Within a month, a worldwide retailer could announce they will accept Btc as a currency and there's excellent chances that within 5 days, we could be facing a Btc price well in excess of $1k. If tomorrow, a daisy chain of negative legislative rulings sweep from country to country across the globe, we could see prices fall back below $50. Unless someone has a very exclusive insight and is aware of a blockbuster news event, we're snatching dates and timeframes out of the air.

All that bullshit aside, I'm expecting we could see Btc hit four figures as soon as early as Q2 2014.

And publicity is absolutely going to impact the price of our beloved. However, one thing that can't be forgotten is that Btc is still full of speculators - people looking to make money out of this currency/asset more-so than they believe in the nature and potential of the coin itself.

Many would say that the Chinese are known for their inclinations to save and store wealth. With this surge of new money, how many are really aware of what Btc really is? Or has the media train simply stopped and loaded up on passengers on its way to moneytown. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but what you need to keep in mind is that it also likely has the side effect of a ripple effect as the price of the coin grows. We'll likely see a bouncing trend, price hits $400, buyers that jumped on at $200 realize they've doubled their money and sell some, thus lowering price; new buyers and Btc Believers see a good price of Btc now at $250 and we ride up to $500, now some see their money doubled while some see their money has tripled - again, some sell and lower the price. Again, all this is completely independent of groundbreaking news -> leading to higher and faster surges.

..in the end, I do believe you are right that we'll hit $1K, and I'll even say we'll likely do it much sooner than many people could ever expect.

I really doubt legislation would stop people from using bitcoin, if anything making them illegal would raise the price.

Yep, not disagreeing with an eventual $1k price valuation. Though, I never said legislation would stop people from using Btc. Btc is here to stay ..unless something is discovered that actually breaks the protocol or another crypto gives reason enough to use it instead.

There is the possibility of another coin taking its place, but I feel like Bitcoin will remain the coin standard unless a large credit or banking institution starts a coin before everyone starts using btc.

Nah.  It's pretty much the Chinese.  The BTC exchange, BTCchina is handling more than 33% of the current trades now, rising quickly day by day.

Love everybodies take on this!! Of course its all speculation no matter what you think, so no need to flame each other. I do think it will hit 1000.00 easy under a year from now, I also beleive there will be another selloff that will cause a huge drop again like after the 242.00 in April or whenever that was. We need transactions to happen not the Chinese hoarding them like pokemon cards! This huge buy up by them is fueling the raise in price obviously but when that hype is done and all those coins are dormant in a bitcoin wallet it doesnt help in my opinion. If they arent being spent it defeats the damn purpose of them, I kind of hate how people are using it as a stock investment. Not saying its wrong but in the long run its not a good thing when we want BTC to be a fully functioning payment and not a stock. When large amounts are held by any person or entity thats when the bullcrap happens.....example - what if Bill Gates bought up every available BTC tomorrow then put them in a wallet and tossed it in the ocean?? I know the results could be a million different scenarios but most of the possible outcomes arent too awesome, unless you think the remaining coins would be worth a million a piece which is not realistic. Did some of you guys think what BTC actually is .. Value is exactly demand.

Guess what happens, when loads of people will get USD to buy xmas presents for example. It crashes hardly. And you will get no cash, because it's just not there in that amount. The exchanges are not regulated by any manner. So as higher BTC goes, as higher is the risk, that it will collapse.

Agreed. I've been trying to get the Devcoin community to understand the same concept. Coins don't gain value by sitting, your coins that are sitting gain value because other people have coins that are switching hands. (not you specifically, just like general "your" )

Bitcoin will surpass expectations. It is not a regular stock, it is Apple before they made the Ipod.

One day someone will invent something amazing and it will only be sold in exchange for Bitcoin.
Then we can start making proper market evaluations. Until then, we can only expect good things, because no one even knows about it yet.

Everyone should go on Facebook TODAY and make "Bitcoin Exchange Day"s scheduled right before Christmas.

Instead of going on Craigslist and meeting some guy 1 on 1, why not have a giant meeting where people come to buy and sell coins. If you can have it overlap (same place, same day, etc) with another local event you can get more attendees, like maybe do it on your regions Christmas light celebration, and make sure to advertise how it makes a great gift for kids because they not only get to buy whatever they want, they get to talk about a new technology with their friends.

The excel modeling is really low level statistics crap.  Not very accurate outside of a several month window.  However I explored the validity of log linearity of the bitcoin price and why it should trace an exponential curve while it is this young here:

I described a more intricate model and found the price depends strongly on the effective supply (which it should) and made some assumptions about the way the "news" of bitcoin spreads and generated 100's of plots in mathematica and left code in another drive on my blog, linked above.

That's correct.  The exponential growth right now is a result of the diffusion of bitcoin e.g. "how many people knowing about it" being roughly proportional to demand.

Since the log of the price is still quite linear over large times, it seems like we are still in the beginning of this diffusion.  I went into great detail on the matter on my blog, but the price of course also depends on the effective supply.  The degree to which bitcoin is being hoarded has drastic impact on the price at a given time.  The demand seems to obey this curve well and since the supply function, disregarding hoarding, is well known, we observe the log linearity.  Log linearity does imply exponential growth - overall, of course.  Keep an eye on the log linear model.

Like clockwork, bitcoin has gained 10x or 1000% in any 1 year window.  1000%/yr is an outrageous gain, but it happened 4 times and I cannot see much evidence that is changing soon.  However of course we must all recognize there will come a time with diffusion of bitcoin will slow.  At that point, I do not know what the price will do.

I'm placing bets on 2014.

I think people are just noticing that people are coing to the coin, which means there are entirely new economies and organizational structures being attached to Bitcoin, so the price will go up. But they don't see that it still does work kinda like a real market in that it is based on supply and demand.

It can last as long as Bitcoin informative measures are booming. More people are coming to Bitcoin and will for a while.

The amount of people that known about bitcoin is growing each day, and even this growth will increase. So an bitcoin price increase of 1000x/yr is certainly possible.

I am pretty new to bitcoin and love the idea behind it. I have attempted mining on an old android device I had laying around but I was only able to max out at about 572kh/h which earned me absolutely nothing after a month of it running straight. So I think I'm going to need to better equipment if I am planning on mining in the future. I would only hope I can get a hold of at least 1 btc and just hold on to it for several years and pray that it increases in value. I would hope that it passes 1000 and goes to 40,000 like some articles I've read predict.
This is my first post here and I look forward to learning and participating in this great community.

My first post too.  Opened an account at CampBX this spring.  Parked a little over $100 right after the price collapsed.  Was waiting for a good entry point under $100 per BTC.  Tried logging onto CampBX two weeks later and account log-in changed by someone else (at CampBX).  No phone # for support;  opened tech ticket which hasn't even been addressed yet.  Didn't respond to BBB complaint.  Ripped off.  Nevertheless, I have amassed over 60 BTC at Coinbase and other wallets and 85 LTC and growing....  

I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit over $1k on this move over the next couple months.  The reasoning is the ludicrously small valuation.  I don't think "float" is an issue as it can be infinitely split.  Also, it is hard to get into (and out of).  When a stock moves, momentum chasers can almost instantly move money into a stock as they already have stock market accounts.  The movements on highly speculative stocks are quicker.  With BTC, however, there could be a delay as it takes days to open an account at Coinbase or move money to Bitstamp etcetera.  People who vaguely know of BTC or follow it but haven't bought any yet and don't want to meet strangers at a coffee house to buy BTC see the price moving up, hear about it on the news and the time of the breakout is delayed.

I really don't think it will take that long. It went up $100 in 2 days. Even if it falls $100, it will stabilize higher and tons of people will reap benefits from the fall. Then we will see an even MORE widespread attention paid to coins, which will make the price go even higher.

And each rise is going to get bigger and bigger.

The demand is an exponential in time at the moment.  The supply is spooky and greatly affects the market in the short term.

I see more hope than knowledge in the predictions of 1000USD a piece. Not saying it wont happen but, you cant base an entire forecast on a trend a few weeks in the running. There will be a huge selloff, who in their right mind wouldnt sell at 500-600USD when they were bought at under 300USD even?? And remember the more people holding coins and not doing transactions make value go down, Bitcoin was created to avoid what we are seeing. Spend them damn coins people if you want prices to climb.

I think this bubble will get us close to the $500 range then settle in the 250-300ish and sit for a bit before going up again and then we might see $1000 at it's top before it pops again.  It'll be a while before we get a solid stable $1000+ Bitcoin.

Well its dropped 30USD each since I checked earlier........I was thinking it is a fact if nobody is spending coins and just letting them sit the value decreases. Maybe im wrong but so far transaction numbers directly reflect what I was saying. Could be a coincidence that has happened repeatedly but im standing by that as my reasoning prices will fall out and back down soon. Maybe not to under a hundred but there will be a significant drop more than the 10% I just seen today. I will be the first to admit I was wrong, would love to see values skyrocket but if past history of any coin, precious metal etc has gone through same climbs and falls. Gold has a ton of uses besides jewelery, Silver does too but there is so much of it and it is mined for 20.00 an ounce or so. Am I wrong to think if it cost 500USD to mine a BTC that the price will eventually reflect that in a relative time? Once again this is all just my own opinions and im not debating who is right. There will be a pre and post-Xmas surge. Gift buying and people buying bitcoins with Christmas card money. So I definitely think it is possible.

My own inexpert opinion, but the current run up is going to crash within a day or two. Good time to sell and wait for the crash to buy back in. This is going to happen many times.  It'll reach 1000 as a solid floor by the spring.

My inexpert opinion agrees with yours. Again im rooting for it to skyrocket! But I think it will dive first. Also I been checking difficulty since im into mining myself and is it just me or did a huge chunk come off the network?

Indeed.  We have seen this pattern before.  Best strategy?  Hold.  Don't give a shit.  Because the small gains now aren't worth to hassle compared to simply buying them up.  Keep converting your USD to BTC on a regular basis.  If you did this blindfolded, with no clue of the current price, you will win hard as hell just just the rest of us, with half the trouble.

I am a fan of dollar cost averaging.  That's what I do, and it feels good.  I don't stress.  I just take the USD I can shit on or buy beer with, and it turns into BTC on the regular.  Every time I do the accounting, my gains in an an average time are quite close.

I think this is completely correct. The gains from short-term speculation are chump change compared to the long-term potential of BTC really being a prominent international monetary instrument. If Bitcoin really does change the world, who the hell cares whether you bought in at $10, $100, or $1000 dollars if it hits the six-figure range.

As long as you hold onto them forever, you're fine.

This, it is tough to trade, and if inexperienced you may do many mistakes. Just holding is better option for not pro traders

Correction for what ? It is clear that the course cannot rise with drawbacks. But the fundamental model is that safe that only real correction will go beyond 10kUSD. Anything else are just small oscillations around the surging value.

the concept of a new type of currency such as cryptocurrencies is a huge deal IMHO.   Before we had BTC there was trading physical assets and fiat currencies.   Now that has changed.   We have a new mechanism to exchange value digitally without corporate intermediaries or oversight.   This is as huge a deal as the advent of opensource software.    I believe we are changing the course of history.  

Seriously.   Think about it.  

Also consider that BTC is a first mover technology.   To me it is like Mozilla / Netscape in the early days of the web.   Likely we will see another altcoin take over BTC eventually.   Now if we only knew which one!

I think the fact that so many people are willing to admit a date of "Late 2014" is a sign that it will happen sooner than that.

The $200 and $300 threads were full of negativity and it seemed to make sense. The negativity is the minority now though, and with drops and rises of $100 in a day or two... $700 really ain't shit at this point. Watch 3 more ATMs get dropped in the streets, or Amazon starts accepting coins or even just Christmas.

May 2014, I suppose. Bitcoin now is a standard for all other coins. Several other coins are so good, but only bitcoin can make the greatest success like US dollar.

I think bitcoin could easily get to 1000 USD once the bitcoin economy matures. As of right now the value seems to be mostly driven by speculation.
Bitcoins are very scarce by design, which is another reason why the value for a single bitcoin will have to rise if the bitcoin economy grows.

At the actual grow rate it should happen within a half year, but I feel a big hype around it by speculants, investors and the media so it increase the demand. I wonder what time does it will fall seriously.

My 2 satoshis: Bitcoin could hit $1000 by the end of this year, if Chinese investors keep pumping in more money at the pace that's been going on for the past few weeks. More realistically, though, we'll end this year somewhere $500 to $800, then probably correct down to $400-$500 for a couple months and build a base, and then reach $1000 in another major upswing by mid 2014. If the Winklevoss ETF is approved, that should propel bitcoin into the thousands.

It's not for the people invited to add money. It's to gain public recognition for Bitcoin. It will bring MORE than the value of ONE team of neurosurgeons.

A rise to $1000 over the next year would be nice.  Any quicker and I would be concerned about a sudden an brutal "snapping" effect as the rubber band shoots back in my face.

The real question for me is, should I hoard or should I sell?

Not idea when exactly the price will reach 1000$. But I tend to believe it will be 10000$ end of 2015.

The reasons:
(1) baidu.com accepts Bitcoin. China has 500 Mio internet users which is beyond the rest of the world together
(2) Bitcoin cannot be vanished from the cyberspace anymore - if so some would have done already
(3) Bitcoin is not far from mass adoption. The barrier is low and nearly no investments must be done
(4) When Bitcoin becomes massively adopted it will replace WU (6000 Mio $) PP (7000 Mio $) etc

That is > 12000 Mio USD just for two of many companies. Now they are around 12 Mio BTC which is 1000 USD/BTC.
WU has 17% market share. That means the market for Bitcoin may be ten times as big eq. 120000 Mio USD which means nothing else than 10000 USD/BTC.

Until end of 2015 we have around 750 days. Let's say now the price is 300 USD (it is higher already). So the price will surge for 9700 / 700 USD/day ~13.8 USD ---

I think just the rise of 14 USD per day is a big reason for any business owner or shop to accept Bitcoin.

Finally it will take something like (1000 - 300) / 14 ~ 50 days until BTC is at 1000 $. From that point my prediction would be end of January.

So the price doubled because of China. I'm not sure about the exact details, so maybe there's still a ton of progress yet to be made in China still, even on top of this price doubling. Anyone know the potential for BTC to continue to climb because of China? Also, how hard would it be for the rest of the world? Seemed pretty simple for China, for some reason. So people are saying the potential for Bitcoin is even up to a million dollars per coin? (How much more potential does China have...?) It would have to take over so much of the market (credit cards, gold, etc.), yet it's one of the most complex concepts to ever hit the world (or something). With my predictions at the latest in April. That's based on the previous trend bitcoin has had, but it will strongly depend on how the market will develop, and if we have some big player come into the picture. Though the trend now certainly seems positive and it is true that bitcoin follows a hyperbolic curve since the more people know about it they tell more people etc. etc. The only real danger bitcoin can face is if some government decides to ban it or seize it, or if a better alternative comes along.

I think Christmas is $500-700 no doubt, and that's not room for error, that is my guess at the bubble and where it will stabilize.

Bitcoin price has increased about 0,59% per day since 2010 so 1000 $ should be broken approximately August 2014. 100 000 at september 2016.

i'm not sure if we have enough steam to this rally to hit 4 figures. it's possible. it's a bit of a nailbiter! i'd love to sell a couple near the top and snatch up more at the bottom, but hehe, i'd probably just be wrong and panic buy back in at a loss.

The growth has been faster than exponential, though. If you look at 1-year charts, the growth appears to be exponential in the interval between Dec 2012 and Nov 2013. Then something happened in Nov 2013.

Unless Bitcoin is destroyed by a 51% attack, it is bound to thrive within an unstable economy.

It is similar to gold, but imo bitcoins are better than gold. Think as an investor. Bitcoins do not inflate. They cannot be stolen if stored properly (offline). They are easy and safe to move. Almost impossible to counterfeit as far as I know.
If you have some knowledge about how currencies work, you should be a fan of BTC. It is not the future, but it is way better than the USD. And as long as financial instability remains, BTC will thrive. Bubbles will come and go, just like the one nowadays, but I'm pretty sure it is going to reach $1000 in a year.

And once big financial institutions endorse BTC, the price may soar to $100k or who knows how high. It is theoretically possible to introduce bank accounts, credit/debit cards in BTC.

Or in case the USD crashes, where do you think all the money is gonna flow? When half the world economy will disappear in a day? BTC has a bright future for the years to come.

IT was at 618$ today, wow!

It was even a bit more for a minute, then it fell back to 550 again in about 30 seconds. Must have been quite a shock for ppl who invested at 600+

I actually don't believe it will go up that fast or even stay at a level this high. Where is the reason for a climb like this? The only one I can see is speculation by traders, which will result in a crash.

Depending upon a person's definition of a "crash", I'm becoming increasingly skeptical that we'll see another drop like we had seen in April. (speaking comparatively to the price before crash) The difference this time being the Chinese market. Any sell-off that happens as a result of US activity for example, whether legislative or holiday, will quickly return to pre-crash prices as the Chinese market goes uninfluenced by such condition and props up the market. However, if we suddenly see a massive dive in the Chinese market, be prepared to see considerable drops in price everywhere else as I don't believe the relationship is reciprocal.

Actually, I think we can go much higher on speculation alone: $1,000+ easy. There are tremendously huge funds being stuffed into BTC from very wealthy and powerful people. As price climbs, it encourages a much larger financial status/risk tolerance and pushes entrance out of plausibility for the middle class investment - many of whom already looked at BTC as a fad/bubble/ponzi/..or just simply hard to accept in concept; now telling them they'll need to cough up over $600 for a single BTC, they're likely to respond with the same, if not greater, level of reservations and skepticism.

If this train keeps chugging along, and we find a level of stagnation combined with still little merchant acceptance - Look Out!! Fortunately, merchants seem to becoming more privy - even the large ones - at what they have to gain by accepting the precious.

Yeah, too many people are coming to it and they expect to EARN money not lose it. None of them are going to sell below $500. And a lot of them will just give up and forget their wallets, then one day realize they made a great investment and get like $50k from 1 Bitcoin (in like 10 years+).

I'm guessing it depends if there's not a big trigger to cause people to sell (ie a big fish selling a lot, a major site shutting down etc).  People will take profits from gains but if no big pressure people won't panic. 

dont forget,
alot of people hope to get as much as possible for one btc, this means if the price starts bumping, most of people will start to withdraw, what they can in hope to get as much as they can. all of them are not trading with btcs, so minority will keep them in wallets. lets only hope, the people invest back. those kind of fears, people forced to stay cautious and not to wait to long...

Selling coins is not bad, these are sold to others who might find it usefull and start providing product/services for BTC - it helps adoption

It depends. I feel like new buyers only want to make a profit on trading, without actually using the coins. On the other hand, capital gains are taxed in most countries, while bitcoin purchases are not, so investors may choose to spend the coins this way to avoid that fee.

Likely for short time, be sure to have buy orders at exchnge just in case, these oppurtunities dont last long. I still have $50 buy order unfilled for months  :D

I doubt it's going to reach $1000 this time. It will probably crash a least once more before it goes to 1000$, though clearly it will reach $1000 at some point (probably in Q1-Q2 next year).

Right now, the price increase is more likely related to the fact that ASICs are killing conventional miners and that the price is going up during the transition from GPU/FPGA to ASIC to keep conventional miners incentivised to mine. If you look at the meteoric rise in difficulty, the price could easily rise up to $10k. That's a measure of how hard it will be to mine BTC. However, that's counting without the fact that no exchange has the architecture to support the massive increase in price, speculation and regulatory complications. BTC value will rise until people realize just how hard it is to get their money out. Once they do, it will crash massively and pick up again when more exchanges appear and make it easier to convert back to fiat.

I imagine the increase in services that accept bitcoin directly might help mitigate any drop though, or maybe avoid it altogether. But then again, that might be too optimistic.  ::)

theres a lot of speculation about what can rise bitcoin. on the first place theres ebay, amazon implementing. on the other side bitmit and some other siet are shuting down. the people are buying more and more powerfull asics, which left other small miners only the crumbs. they stop mining after a while, and make some hashrate room on the bottom.

after all.. if the bitcoin falls again, alot of new people that are interested in it, will start buying, the one who withdraw will invest back. then we can see 1000$ border fall. perhaps in a near future, mybe before end of the year.

By the end of the year probably.  People always try to say things like "The Senate hearings caused a spike in bitcoin prices" or "Baidu accepting bitcoin caused a spike in bitcoin prices".  I don't think much of this really matters as much as dinner table or water cooler conversations.  The Chinese government stamp of approval was one thing that had a huge impact on demand, but little stuff, like the positive Senate hearing doesn't impact the price all that much or at least not all that quickly.

On Monday evening when there was that little bubble btcnCNY went to over 7000CNY, which is well over $1000.  Thus, in effect, it actually already has gone to $1000.

We are going to a potential new high on bitstamp right now.
The buy side to ~ $620 is over 3000 bitcoin, while the sell side is 2/3 of that till ~ $760.

It is funny reading some of the opinions. However the current price is somewhat ridiculous. And you might think the soaring price is a good thing, it actually is not.

I think that it will hit 1000 soon, however that does not mean that it will hit and stay at 1000. With all the recent attention focused on BTC from the tacit government approval, there's bound to be news about possible regulation which will bode ill for the price. There is the chance that some regulation will actually be good in the long run, but the initial shock to the price will probably be negative. I just recently started paying more attention to this whole situation but I am excited none the less.

If everyone thinks its going to hit 1k it won't.  Manipulators will be there at $950 to dump the price again to buy more at $550.  They are slowly and consistently buying coins only to dump in a few days maybe even Monday again.  Be careful...

This is not quite right.  If you pay $100 for a bitcoin then purchase $1,000 of merchandise with that bitcoin, you still have capital gains tax on the increase of value from $100 to $1000.  The capital gain would be $1000 of bartered goods less the cost base of $100 from the original purchase.

Man, just thinking that I bought my first bitcoins for $4 USD a piece in 2011, and over the years now watching the market from the spike in May 2013 (i think) when it was at ~240 and then the spike to ~900 the other day... What a crazy ride it's been.

Thanksgiving day it will reach $1000. In my demand analysis, LiteCoin LTC will reach $50 early 2014 and ByteCoin BTE will reach $1 early 2014.

Seems like its getting really close today (27 Nov). If not today, then certainly either tomorrow (Thanksgiving) or "Bitcoin Black Friday".
Just FYI down here in Australia it has already well and truly surpassed AUD$1000 which is a big milestone.
People on localbitcoins here are selling them for cash for about AUD$1050-AUD$1100.

The good thing now is any kind of crash is simply an opportunity for all those who missed the earlier opportunities to buy in. I just watched a flash crash on the bitcoin average get totally turned around in a matter of minutes. You will always have speculators with price targets ready to dump, but now at least we have plenty of new investors ready to jump back on the market. What we really need is a wider adoption in the third world to capture some of western unions market share. Hope that app for the Mpesa/bitcoin converter really takes off......

Plenty of buy walls are set up to snatch up cheap BTC.  The price ain't gonna go down too far anymore.  I would not be completely shocked if we saw some 700s but I highly doubt it.  

There was some activity that suggests to me the price is a little too low.  It's lingering between something interesting for really big fish and something manipulable by big fish.  If big market pushers enter the bitcoin market at this price, they can really show their presence.  One particular movement was this manipulation that looks like it landed this guy about 500 cheap or free bitcoins.  All he had to do was spend $3.5 million on some coins...there wasn't a lot of sell pressure above his high, so he sent the moving average flying and way able to sell off some of his coins for a comfortable profit.

Maybe in the next four years. My bet is that BTC will not reach more than $1500 next year. Yes, anything is possible, but that's my 2 cents.

Bitcoin's historical price pattern over the last month is fairly predictable.  The price peaked with the peak in publicity.  Although I have not looked at the data, it is safe to assume that there is a correlation between the number of google searches for "bitcoin" and the price.  It would not surprise me if the price hits $400 before it hits $1,000 again.  Currently, bitcoin is mainly a speculative vehicle, albeit an excellent one.  Because it has no ceiling on its potential value, the price could hit $1 million or more in the years to come.  On the other hand, speculators may find another vehicle to get excited about and bitcoin's peak price may have already been reached.  BTC

Probably not too long now, we could easily reach $1000 within a few months, if not sooner.

Think this is going to happen sooner. Not because I am holding and just hoping i will be rich at the end of the year, but the price is going up and it is not difficult for the price to go up to 1000$. We are now going to new borders and we are living in a very interesting time for BTC. Hope to see what threat will be opened after 10 years :D Guess!

I will not be to optimistic for the price to reach $1000 by year end. As more people are becoming aware of BTC and its volatility. If the prices do reach $1000,  it will be for a very short while, as like you, most people are holding on to their bitcoins. and given the fact the Feds just recently had completed the auction of the silk road bitcoins, they will also come into play around the time when the prices soar. So my prediction, it will peak at $1000, triggering a selling frenzy, and then settle to somewhere near $850, and pick up from there. I may be too bold, but i figure $600 to be the new base line for BTC in the near future.

If I had to make a guess, maybe in three months. No reason just a guess that's really all you can do

Well there are news that Newegg has started accepting bitcoin, which is good. The ecosystem can use all the good news it can get.

However, $1000? Maybe if something big happens to get demand soaring.

Maybe in July, starting to feel there is some nice buying momentum building to feed on the impressive merchant adoption piece

when the person who bought 30000BTC in auction want to make a higher profit he will pump the value to that level.

Not sure whether or not we'll get there on this rally, but definitely this year. I'm undecided on whether or not we are still retracing in the bear market, or if this is truly the start of a new bull market. $700s will be telling.

I think it will be a much more difficult climb than last time. Good news used to move the price a ton... not anymore.

The thing about news, in my opinion, is that it tends to follow market sentiment -- it doesn't create it. So, in a bear market, good news tends to have little effect. In a bull market, much effect. I don't think we have confirmed the type of full-blown bull market where good news will be immediately reflected in price.

It happen before and more than $1000 in 2013 , but now its going to happen again look at the big raise these day .

$1,000 can hit today if they wanted to, its based on the pricing of exchanges who can do this.

The $1000 is a really strong psychological point for people - some will sell at it, others will buy then support that level.

You saying the exchanges will drive the price up themselves? Like the "Willy Bot" on Gox? (I'm still not sure about that whole thing, and if it happened the way the report laid out)

What interest to they have in that? I know they hold a lot of BTC, but over the long term, they will earn much $ and BTC in fees...

Exactly. IMO, the media will just create over-reaction to both good news and bad news, like the overbought in Nov 2013. :)
