Title: Best altcoin?
Post by: imrer on November 15, 2013, 07:15:38 PM
I'd like to ask you what is in your opinion best altcoin?

I know bitcoin, I know litecoin but then it's kind of uncertain.

Which one has the biggest members base after bitcoin and litecoin?

Your next two established coins would be Peercoin (PPC) and Namecoin (NMC). The list goes on from there.

Join us at Peercointalk.org ; we're trying to win this battle as best cryptocurrency, not best alt anything  ;)

The market cap of a coin is always a good indication.

Peercoin and Namecoin are safe bets. I also like Cryptogenic Bullion.

http://www.cryptolife.net has good analyses of different coins. Bases on their info, I would stay away from GoldCoin and MegaCoin.

As there is no best altcoin, as long as you look at anything besides LTC you're good to go.
I'd recomment CGB and MEC (also worth mentioning PPC and NMC).

That's just not true. If you're going to talk about alt coins having any major differences, designs or innovations, PPC and to a lesser extent NMC both fit that description as accurately as it comes.

PPC's design is pretty solidly innovative. You can try to sum it up as 'Ooh proof of stake' but you're not really doing it justice.

Zetacoin seems promising I find, correcting a few slim problems with bitcoins: almost instantaneous confirmation time, 1 million coins inflation per year to keep miners working afterwards and to keep fees at 0, quick difficulty adjustment.
Error 404: No good feature found.

Allright, in the not too distant future you go shopping and you pay with your favorite crypto currencies. Are you going to stand at the cashier for 10 minutes plus waiting for your transaction to be confirmed or do you want your transaction to be confirmed as quickly as possible?
Something will be done in the future, to help with that, I'm sure of it.

For example in-person transactions could have the highest priority.

For just a little more money you could get Fastcoin, has much more features.

I got myself some Zeta because I thought it was fun owning 100,000 shares of any alt coin.

Problem is that it probably wont go anywhere.

Look at the market cap listing for coins, they will give you an idea of the real $ value in order.

My favorites are LTC, PPC and WDC which is approaching $1 Million in valuation.

I can't mine scrypt coins and I'm not a big fan of PPC for several reasons. For sure Zetacoin might not takeoff, but if it does it will be rewarding. Itīs boom or bust.
You can't mine them? Why?

Buy up the top 5 altcoins on the list, put it into a cold wallet for a year or two, and reap the rewards of all the masses investing in them since Bitcoin hit $500+.

I like Megacoin.

I am also a noob but I like the interface, the website and the inexpensive cost.

It is a relatively new coin and it has a market cap of $200,000 and already over 20 million in circulation 21 million being issued in the first 5 months and the next 21 million being released over then next couple of decades.

I do not understand crypto incredibly well but it seems to me the numbers are good for mec to start growing in price very soon as the first 21million will have been released and supply will drop thereafter...

There have been a couple here that have said to avoid it...

Why do you say that, please give details... Also those that support it what are your reasons...

I understand this gravity well thing is unique to megacoin, is that actually unique or is it a new name for something that is already implemented in other coins?

I chose megacoin to begin with as it was easy, I could get some for free and I wanted a cheap coin to work all this crypto currency stuff out with...

I want some Bitcoin and Litecoin but I expect them to adjust back down soon, I may be wrong but I m not willing to drop a couple of grand on them right now to lose half if it next week...

MEC brings some very unique code to the table. Don't believe I have seen anything similar? It seems to me that many of the so-experts here have haven't been paying attention.  ??? They have certainly, and exponentially underestimated Megacoin. It's going to be about SPEED, security, and anonymity. Wanna bet which coin sets the standard? I don't think there is another coin that can show precise response to network hash rate like Kimoto's Gravity Well? If so, please provide an example? Have you ever bothered to look at the speed of a MEC transaction? I was setting up some laptop to laptop accounts, and when you click send, the number of Megacoins appears in the receive wallet instantly. Time will tell who is serious, and who brings the innovation.  ;)

For many reasons, I also believe CGB will do very well.

First of all, you are quoting an article by the developer of Vagina coin.  ::) I see others have branded you as dishonest, so I believe your credibility here is about Zero.

I might mention that a VERY large percentage of the MEC generated during the first 5 months has been going towards bounties, incentives, rewards for various projects, and donations to new supporters. Just like Bitcoin and Litecoin did! The old saying that it takes money to make money. You won't find a more professional, harder working, or more honest team than all the people associated with, and supporting Megacoin. If you're the real deal, you don't need to go around bashing other coins. And there certainly are some that deserve bashing.
Aside from all that, Megacoin is like a F1 car at the Pinewood Derby.

Is there a reason you attack my credibility when I post anything negative about Megacoin?

Can it be because its a scamcoin or a cultcoin?

You admit the 5 month thing is an issue, and try to defend it with bounties and incentives.... right. Sounds like a folly to me.

I have yet to hear a single positive attribute about MegaCoin.

That is the easiest one to answer. Since the implementation of the Kimoto Gravity Well, it provides the fairest mining possible. Even the multipools no longer affect it. Megacoin provides very fast transactions, with instant verification and very fast confirmations. There are unique services coming to Megacoin soon. Some of them are quite revolutionary.  We have an active developer who has proven he can deliver what others haven't been able to do (this one should be the most obvious). And a highly dedicated and professional support team. Then there is always CoinJoin....

Kimoto Gravity Well? There is another coin or two that has the same feature, different name. I forget which coin it is... people were saying its not a big deal.

The speed of transactions is nice, but many other coins do it fast as well.

Sorry, but the fact that most of it was mined in months 1-5 leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

What is coming that will be revolutionary?

Yes, it's well known that there are other developers trying to copy Kimoto's work.  ::) I did not say Megacoin was the fastest, simply that it's very fast. Especially compared to Bitcoin or Litecoin.

Don't apologize. If you don't want the best, that is your prerogative.   8)

You won't have too much longer to wait, then you will understand.  ;)

Haha! I love all cryptos and have a portfolio of a bunch!

I hope the next mad dash in the alt world is to create services instead new coins.

The services are coming, but you need to remember the entire altcoin community is still very young...
In another year our horizons will be greatly expanded.

That is why we should diversify our investments in coins for as many different altcoins we could.

I have nothing against diversification. I was a Bitcoin supporter, but I'm a seller at these prices. I also mined Litecoin for a long time, and I've been a fan of CGB from the beginning. Megacoin just happens to be my favorite for a ton of reasons.

One of my friends had 450 million TIX, and I almost bought 100k IFC for $10.  :P  Even a couple thousand CGB is a nice warm feeling.  ;D  But in the long run, I think having 20k or 30k MEC will be a better investment.

I'm not ashamed to admit I mined Diamonds, Emeralds, Primecoin, Feathercoin, Hobo Nickels, Worldcoin, and just about every other altcoin before I really looked at evidence.

I've said CGB would be a winner from the beginning. They have some similarity to Megacoin in their professional approach, and ongoing development. As I said, they have a lot going for them, and I wish them the best. In fact one of our major projects will also support CGB.

To answer the question of the OP, would depend on what your criteria is for
"best" alt coin. (after btc, ltc)

For myself, as a long term investor, I am looking for alt coins that have the following;
- good mining community support
- an active and transparent development team
- listed in top 20 in market cap evaluafion
- has not been pre mined or insta mined
- brings some innovative features
- is not trying to be just another pump and dump coin

So far the only coin that meets my criteria is DGC, digital coin.

- Not yet convinced by pos, proof of stake coins. PPC and others.
- Leery of coins that have got on exchanges through bribery, like novacoin
- Especially leery of all coins that have huge premines and instamines,
(the majority of alt coins, unfortunately)
- Why a corrupt and inept coin like FTC is still listed on exchanges like btc-e is a testament to
how  dubious those exchanges really are.

My 2 virtual cents... :)

If you put any faith in cryptolife, you really have no credibility. lol

You will figure it out eventually... Hopefully.  ;)

It seem you have less since you offer no defenses to the author of the articles points.

Megacoin sounds like another scam coin to me.

+1

Some good advice here.

digitalcoin (DCG) - your checking account with some interest over time. digitalcoin could become very spendable in the near future.

CryptoGenicBullion (CGB) - your high-interest savings account or even your very own bank vault.

These are two very different coins with strong and growing community support. Hedging both of these coins now is unlikely to be a bad decision in a year to two years time. However, there are other good choices and you should spread your portfolio.

Personally, I would advise people to avoid goldcoin. I've considered its reward structure and future position in the market place and its hopeless. Its a real shame that such a good name for a coin has been adopted by this one. http://cryptolife.net/goldcoin-the-scam-that-keeps-on-giving/

Peercoin, Primecoin, Litecoin and Securecoin are all good coins.

eMunie is going to be big.

I'd be more of a fan of Worldcoin, but I just prefer digitalcoin. :)

Oh, and don't overlook Anoncoin !

Even cryptonerds need to decide which coins they will support and which they will shun.  ;D

Innovation like faster payments, will make an alt-coin usable at a place like McDonalds.

How about Anoncoin? Anoncoin beats Bitcoin if you like to be anonymous and that is important in deepweb where quite a big part of virtual currency is traded.

I 2nd that! still not as innovative to take over bitcoin but imo one of the better contenders to take a roll as 3rd or 4th place in the grand scheme of things. At least for the time being

Megacoin and CGB are the best bets. You won't likely double your money in Bitcoin anytime soon, but you could easily quadruple it in MΣC or CGB in the very near future.
