Title: Obama on NSA spying
Post by: FCTaiChi on December 23, 2013, 01:33:39 AM
The fact of the matter is that the United States, for all our warts, is a country that abides by rule of law, that cares deeply about privacy, that cares about civil liberties, that cares about the Constitution,” concluded the President.

This was the end of a speech about spying on the public. If this is a country that cares about the rule of law I, we're left to assume he meant secret laws.
Civil liberties? You mean like voting rights? If we have no oversight, how can you call it a democracy? They just do anything they want and say it protects us from terrorism. Sure we could vote them out of office when there is something untenable pushed through.. if corporations didn't have a stranglehold on the system. How can we even do that, though, if we don't know what they're doing? It would be very surprising to find out that there were not other secrets that are being kept from public view.
As for caring about the constitution, that's quite a joke. How can he get away with saying these things? In the mainstream media he is only questioned by republicans, who have no credibility in attacking him. They lost that after rooting for their heroes when they constantly obstructed democracy in Obama's first term.
The left-right paradigm is only bringing us closer to totalitarian democracy. If this was found out while a republican was in office, liberal minded people would be protesting. Now they are unsure, indifferent, and even defending the policy.

It's just rhetoric and unfortunately it's what most politicians have been reduced to. And the stupid American people (I am American so I can say that) fall for it and keep voting the same people in.

It was amazing to see hardcore leftists defending everything he was doing simply because he wasn't bush. Sure he got a Nobel because of what he was supposed to do. "Give the guy some room, some time! We need 30 years to bring back the US from the bush years! Gitmo is evil! He will take care of it! Drones? Patriot Act? Listen to him! Of course I will vote for him! I mean look at that smile! Wow!"

Now what...

The Nobel prize is interesting.  In an era of postmodernist thinking, the script could have been rewritten to show the great deeds of the man who correctly was fortold to be The One by the giving of the Nobel.

And then he plain, simple, fucked it all up.  Liberals, conservatives, libtard, conservtard, libertarians, all gonna have to figure out some way to work together to pull out of the giant mess this guy has started rolling downhill.

Worst rhetoric ever.

Rhetoric was originally the third part of the trivium.  First grammar, answering who what where when and how.  Then logic, creating an arguement that comes from the answer obtained.  Then making a statement from this that can be easily digested by the audience.  This was the rhetoric.

Now it's just a method of sophist propaganda.

Not really.  The smear campaign against Bush was well funded and started early.  What you call hardcore leftists were just the useful idiots of the moment.  They heard, they repeated, they hated like they were told.

ANYONE who believes that they have a right to install some 'leader' or another over their neighbors is a useful idiot to TPTB. If YOU have no right to force your neighbor to do something, how do you gain a right to grant to some politician to do that for you, magical incantations?

Good find!  Except for those two revolting CNN bitches talking nonsense and the fact that the Snowden message was 9/10 cut out.

Here is the real unedited video.  Worth mulling over, why was this unedited video blocked from Youtube?

Yep. I agree with all that.  Magical incantations of fear over global warming and climate doom help, of course, for the politicians to get the power over their neighbors that they want.

I was just going over the particulars vis a vis Bush.

Problem is you can't have your cake and eat it too.  Know what I mean?

Yeah... wait for a few years until all the illegal aliens destroy the public healthcare system in the US. That's the difference between Obamacare and Romneycare.

As omg as they're paying for it, it's not a big deal.  Real problem is the cost of healthcare itself, from what I can see.  Used to be that docs took a vow of poverty, now they get a business degree as a minor in business.  Add that to unneeded machines, admin-CEO salaries, pharmacy lobbyists and giving kickbacks to docs for signups to new meds......

The cost of healthcare in the US / EU is astronomically high, due to the following reasons:

1. Medical insurance companies act as a third party, rising costs by default.

2. Doctors are in short demand, and the average wage is around $25,000 per month (compared to $1,200 for the same sector in Russia and Eastern Europe).

3. Medical patents are respected in the US / EU, unlike some countries such as Brazil and Botswana.

1) There are just an handful of cases where Brazil didn't respect patents.
2) Brazil does not have to respect patents derived from stolen plants inside their territory, mostly from Amazonia

In case with countries like Brazil and Botswana, the main issue is with AIDS medications. Around 1 million are HIV +ve in Brazil, while in Botswana a quarter of the population is infected. The government can't afford costly ARV medication. So they gave permission for the mass production of cheap copies.

Nothing to do with Amazonian plants here, but that occurred in some other instances.

No, 2) has to do with Amazonian plants, 1) has to do with AIDS and a few others. I never claimed that 1) and 2) are directly related

The most well known case of refusal to recognize the patents by Brazil is that of Efavirenz, one of the ARVs used for the treatment of AIDS. Efavirenz is a complex compound derived from petrochemical reactions, and has nothing to do with Amazon rain forest.

Just wait until the 2014 elections, you'll see the machines crank up again.  Anyone that does not see that the best thing is a republican senate needs their head examined.  At the same time, I don't expect them - the repugs - to seriously get their act and platform together.

Indeed:
NYC welfare food is shipped in barrels to the Dominican Republic – then sold on the black market

Food-stamp fraud in New York has turned into foreign aid — to black-market profiteers in the Dominican Republic.
Last week, The Post revealed how New Yorkers on welfare are buying food with their benefit cards and shipping it in blue barrels to poor relatives in the Caribbean.
But not everyone is giving the taxpayer-funded fare to starving children abroad. The Post last week found two people hawking barrels of American products for a profit on the streets of Santiago.
“It’s a really easy way to make money, and it doesn’t cost me anything,” a seller named Maria-Teresa said Friday.
The 47-year-old Bronx native told The Post she scalps barrels of Frosted Flakes and baby formula bought with welfare money in the United States.
Maria-Teresa said she gets new barrels every few weeks from her sister, who buys everything at a Western Beef on Prospect Avenue near East 165th Street in Foxhurst.
The scamming sibling pays $75 per barrel to transport the items to the DR through Mott Haven’s Luciano Shipping. Sometimes the family fraudsters take advantage of a special: three barrels for the price of two.
Maria-Teresa said she uses some of the products but vends the rest out of her Santiago home, providing markdowns of $1 to $2 compared to what her buyers would pay in local shops.
“I don’t know how much of a business it is, but I know a lot of people are doing it,” she said.

We need to escape from this Stockholm Plantation Syndrome mentality. Of course we can be against him no matter his skin color. He opened the door for any ethnic groups to be president of the USA in the future. Now, please, do not destroy the country because his half blackness is making his half whiteness afraid to criticize his Holiness...

No need to start a sentence with "I am not a racist, but..."

Thank God I do not have this feeling guilty problem.

It would be difficult with the fear tactics, but if someone would stand up to the system and get enough exposure they may have a chance.  We need to stop with the parties, they are not required, and have only ill effects.
