//******* Rewards *******

Rewards are paid for referrals, trading, chatting. Rewards are paid in ATP (Atomic Points). ATP can be bought and sold like any other currency or earned from rewards. As more ATP is awarded the harder it becomes to earn and the more its worth. ATPs value is based on the fact that every 6 hours the system will pay you a variable percentage (percent increases with atp difficulty) of all the fees collected on the exchange.

Its feeshare that you earn.

LOTTO
Every hour the system has a lotto drawing and is currently paying a reward of 0.05 0.03  0.02 ATP. To enter the lotto simply buy any coin.

As of this moment the system is taking 25% 30% 35% 40% of all fees collected and paying them out to ATP holders.

I'm hoping everything will be ready in a couple days but just to be safe i marked it as the 10th. I didn't anticipate having to roll out multiple servers to handle the load from the coin clients. Some of them are extreme memory pigs. My bad!

Finally some competition for Coinbase.

This is competition for btc-e not for coinbase. This website is even more trustable than btc-e.com in my opinion.

Hmmm? I don't see how this is any competition for btc-e. Just as coinbase, this service is aimed more towards the U.S.

I did go into a coma! and after I was revived I was handed Atom for the next few days making it hard to work... :-(

I'm aimed globally and will accept fiat from almost anywhere but the banks charge to convert to USD (i'm not a forex). My ultimate goal is to create someplace that people feel they are a part of and can trust with there money. Which as u know is not easy with all the shitty exchange scams and other schemes that have gone down. Total transparency, government regulation, and the ability to still trade alt-coins anonymously (if you prefer complete privacy) and still know that you are not dealing with an exchange that can just disappear. Coinbase is and will remain the U.S. leader in BTC/USD conversion as well as helpful merchant features but what they don't do is operate as an actual exchange. As far as i know I will be the first licensed full U.S. based exchange. This means that we have strict operating procedures and have to do quite a bit of reporting however this also means your money is more secure than some deregulated exchange operating out of some country where they can scam and run.

OK.... back to Atom he's starting to scream at me again Ughhhhh

Just an update... Registration is now open and coins are slowly being put online. I still have some gui bugs to work out and to enable the settings page. The account upgrade page is not enabled yet since all users are being given pro accounts right now as a thank you for being patient. Please be sure to send me feature requests and report any problems.

Looks like the registration is still broken, same captcha across multiple PC's, the javascript doesn't seem to go anywhere after clicking create account.

I wouldn't be surprised if the captcha issue is related to cloudflare as well.

EDIT: Captcha seems to be working now.

It's under heavy ddos at the moment and its holding up perfectly. I have the coin server down for a system change so the trade and currency pages should be acting up. I'm actually surprised at how well the network is holding up... but im not speaking to soon... no jinxx

OK so i completely rearranged the network so it should be quite a bit faster and hopefully fixed the cloudflare js/css problem. I'm replicating the wallets right now to the new servers :-) I'm happy now! Maybe i can go to sleep sometime soon, 3 hrs in 2 days isn't cutting it. Have to wait till the files are all done transferring though :-( after i get up i think ill get the ball rolling by putting up some orders.

Still haven't been able to register, there are some elements that are coming back 403 from cloudflare... also, it looks like the javascript onSubmit is trying to return a *.PNG of an exclamation mark that's base64 encoded, but the actual image isn't getting placed anywhere visible.

EDIT: Finally got an account made, but there are a few things wrong in your validation for the username. Also, some z-index issues on some divs (mainly the one which is suppose to show an error). Also, I had to get three emails sent as the email validation failed twice after clicking on the link.

So I've been looking into speed improvements and it has been my realization that the problem is with ssl... if you look here http://webwait.com/2pt (http://webwait.com/2pt) you can see the times are all basically the same... how is this possible... simple with the overhead of ssl the tiny amount of time taken for actual content is is just that... tiny... compared to the ssl overhead. So i can't change the transport layer wait but i can't help but wonder if I would see any sort of improvement by using page specific js and css instead of it all being lumped together? anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

All the same because prob all using Cloudflare SSL. http://blog.cloudflare.com/how-cloudflare-is-making-ssl-fast
I connect fine with TLS 1.2 Forward Secure ECDHE_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 in FireFox but I had to manually enable it with about:config or I'd be defaulted to questionable secure TLS1.0 RC4. Are you on a dedicated host or VPS because they are probably lying to you how much bandwidth and resources you're offered and overselling the service.

+1 for adding Blakecoin! It is a solid coin design, it uses a hash algorithm which is actually energy efficient and a block reward system geared towards long term stability.

and on another note, why would you use IIS? nginx or even apache would be considerably better IMO.

I would like to suggest Xivra.

Xivra website - http://www.xivra.com/ (http://www.xivra.com/)
Bitcointalk thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=376160.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=376160.0)

The reason I believe it would be a good addition is due to the fact it is currently only on one exchange (CoinedUp) which, at the moment, is incredibly slow to use. This has been frustrating for people trying to buy and sell XIV. If we could get a fast running exchange service I am sure many would prefer to use this site, it looks nice and more importantly it runs smoothly. It's a fair coin with a good small tight nit community and has the chance to grow. I believe the coin will continue to grow as the dev team and community are always busy working on the development, which means more people will be buying and selling the coin, and as early adopters, the more money you will make though fees.

Hey, you're in New Jersey. Do you support international payments/withdraw? There's walk-in services there (or via ACH) where you can load bank accounts in India, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar and Pakistan instantly. Then foreign customers in India can dump in coins, withdraw to their bank and then 3 minutes later take it out via local ATM if your license allows dealing with foreigners after identity verification

Still fighting with the withdrawal code :-( so even though withdrawals are enabled I fully expect that the system will shut withdrawals down. Luckily I have tons of logging on it and can hopefully get to the bottom of whats causing the error.

Title: Re: [ANN] Atomic Trade New Virtual Currency Exchange USD BTC
Post by: ByronP on January 28, 2014, 03:20:01 PM
yes it is not finished yet. Right now you can request the last price using this simple method:

https://www.atomic-trade.com/getprices?c=PXL&p=BTC

where c = the coin type
where p = the partner
c and p must be the uppercase 3 letter trade pair names
returns a simple json with the price or if an error the error field will show -1 (0 is good or no error)

Example Response:

{"price": "0.00028500 ", "error": "0"}

Edit: I still cant signup/login for your website. something is amiss there my friend.

i also find the username/password requirements both ridiculous and pointless, and making it extremely hard for me to register. like the third time i've tried too.

Post by: CycleSurfer on February 08, 2014, 04:29:38 PM
This is awesome ByronP.  You've got a potential goldmine by accepting USD with your exchange.

There's a huge need to buy alt-coins (e.g. WDC) directly with USD.  This will open up the market to joe-public to buy alt-coins and make these coins useful in the crypto-currency economy instead of primary pump-and-dump vehicles for the miners.

If you haven't heard yet, Scharmbeck seems to have imploded with legal issues involving its developer.  A huge blow to the WDC community.  Scharmbeck was to be the direct USD-to-WDC exchange like Coinbase.

So can you get your exchange to accept USD to buy WDC (or any alt-coin for that matter) directly?  Because here's how we get WDC today (besides mining it) via Coinbase.  Buy BTC with USD, wait 4 business days, convert BTC to WDC, wait at least an hour for 6 BTC confirmations, and then ready to use WDC.

This manual conversion negates completely the speed advantage of WDC.

And it would seem straight-forward to integrate prices between USD-WDC and BTC-WDC by having the system pass prices through BTC:
I.e. USD-to-BTC then BTC-to-WDC and vice-verse:  This establishes the USD-WDC price which can be integrated with the pure BTC-WDC price.

Having such a built-in automatic service would be HUGE!!

@ByronP can you look into QurarkCoin (QRK)? QRK is 9th largest cryptocoin and has decent volume of trades. It has one of the highest traded coins at BTC38- a top Chinese exchange. It has been added to most of the known altcoin exchanges except btc-e. There are lots of developments and projects going on. QRK has very active community and is growing very fast. It is one of better designed coin- purely CPU based, more secure (6 random hashes from 9 round of hashes), faster (30 sec) and has very interesting economics of coin distribution.

Since a lot of people have been asking I though I would post this here to try and help people understand.

Any wallet is susceptible to the current BTC network problem. What happens is a transaction is broadcast to the BTC network. A malicious node then takes that transaction and mutates the data then broadcasts the bad information back out onto the network. When your wallet sees that transaction (because the id the wallet uses remains in tact) it thinks it sent the transaction (double spend). However because the data in the transaction is bad it will never confirm and the wallet will get stuck waiting for it. This is a problem for exchanges because all transactions both in and out get blocked by the wallet as it is waiting for the bad transaction to confirm (it never will). Many people have been affected by this as of late not just exchanges. The wallet.dat file must be edited and the bad data pulled out and the wallet is fine after that (did it twice yesterday). Regular users will either be stuck with a corrupt wallet or have to wait a few days for the bad data to be kicked out by there wallet.

In the paper that MTGox wrote the id they are talking about is the txid of the transaction broadcast on the network. There proposed solution is for the wallet (everyones) to stop using just the txid and to also use a secondary hash of the transaction. This way when a bad transaction comes to the wallet the wallet will reject it as the txid may match but the private hash doesn't so the wallet knows that the transaction has been tampered with.

Fantastic work, we look forward to directing Nxt traffic that way down the road.  Do you plan on enabling any type of auto-trade options similar to Cryptsy?  It would be nice to be able to figure a way to have a system like CoinPayments.net accept a coin and have the customer be able to flip it to USD automatically and have it waiting on the exchange to use (once all the compliance forms are filled out).

I'll have to say Fusion coin too, for a couple reasons, it looks likely to actually take off and not fail, it uses SHA and/or Scrypt mining, so anyone can mine it and trade it. I don't personally like Zeit because of the instamine launch, but some others love it. ECC could be good, but I have reservations that it will not be a long lasting coin.

i guess he was griping about the 16 charachter limit on passwords. probably enough entropy though if you're using bcrypt and strong salts. i tend to agree that 16 charachters is a rather sheisty limit. my cryptsy password and email passwords both exceed the limit.  not an insult, your exchange is pretty decent(you claim its the most secure). don't ignore the users though. increase that weak password limit.

Why only 16 characters for the password, and why it says invalid password when i try to create account??? Do you not support special characters?? Personally i despise any service that places restrictions to my passwords. I hope you do not ask to reset it once a month  :-\

Reset no, 2FA optional, secure password yes! Sorry security for all users whether they like it or not since it helps protect everyone.

i guess he was griping about the 16 charachter limit on passwords. probably enough entropy though if you're using bcrypt and strong salts. i tend to agree that 16 charachters is a rather sheisty limit. my cryptsy password and email passwords both exceed the limit.  not an insult, your exchange is pretty decent(you claim its the most secure). don't ignore the users though. increase that weak password limit.

Everyone should be using 2FA. Given that.

It's a waste of time using over a 16 character password.  No one in the real world bothers with that crap.  All it does is force regular people to write passwords down or store it in a file on their computer.

Fellow Atomic-Trade enthusiasts and ATP holders:

As I am sure many of us can agree, it is a huge relief to find a place to trade in the crypto world that we feel is legitimate and secure. If you are a fan like me, perhaps you want to see Atomic grow, and to affect its success in some way. While our community moves on from the hurdles of the last couple months, there is now a great opportunity to begin reshaping the image of the crypto industry. And Atomic is well positioned to be the premiere exchange at the forefront of this industry wide change. But we need to get the word out there! Would you like to have an impact on Atomic's position going forward? Maybe are you an ATP holder, and you would like to help assure that Atomic's user base continues to grow, those trade lights keep flashing, and the rewards keep rolling in.

I would, so I am starting a Byron approved ad donation pool. All BTC will be used to buy ad time/space on the 'Lets Talk Bitcoin!' Podcast Network (I definitely recommend a listen), or if someone has a better idea Id like to hear it.

Some info:

  • I cant take the BTC and run because I stand to lose those precious atps
  • If the BTC gets "stolen" Ill refill the balance myself
  • If we dont raise enough for ads with the podcast, ill just send it over to Byron to use toward advertising he does
  • LTB Podcast has 30,000 listeners
  • Ads wont have a ref id
  • The basic price is BTC equivalent of $300.00 per 30 second ad.
  • Webpage ad space $400/mo
  • Voicing and producing a 30 sec ad is $300 - unless some of you have a golden voice and the skill to do it
  • There are other options but I dont think we are rich enough for them

The following motivational fud is just my opinion.
Atomic's main competitive advantages thus far have been its legitimacy as a fincen registered business in the US, and the ability to legally interface with us bank accounts. I think Atomic has more value added features in the works. Thats all awesome, however, there are more established exchanges gaining ground in the areas of atomics main attractions, i mean- ID verifications starting as early as next week. We need to attract more of those average joe bitcoin-curious new users.

Yes, I mean ATP. Is it not business shares?
It means that shareholders have no legal protection?
Do you plan to add 2FA with SMS code?

Title: Re: [ANN] Atomic Trade New Virtual Currency Exchange USD BTC
Post by: ByronP on May 03, 2014, 04:32:39 PM
Yes and No. They are not legal shares of the company instead they are feeshares which represent a percentage of the sites income. The ATP is protected by the rules set out in the TOS however like all feeshares they are not shares of the company and have no legal bindings as such. If someone was interested in becoming a legal partner they would need to contact me directly and legally be added to the companies business registration.

I'm currently working on sms auth however its not as simple to send sms globally as one would think :-( but i will get it. I have been concentrating on creating our own private hosting center which has been my focus as of late. Most of the servers have arrived and are sitting in the cage since the rails haven't arrived, ups system, rails, switches, routers, kvm, etc should arrive next week. Site backend codebase is being restructured to clear out bottlenecks and a new gui is also in the works that relies purely on asyc signalr to eliminate another one of the current bottlenecks.

I think of ATP somewhat like Common (nonvoting) shares. you collect dividends (every 6 hrs) but have no official vote in Atomic-Trade's management.
It's good. But I am concerned that the shareholders are not legally protected.

there is only 1 shareholder. ME lol and i lose more each month than most people make heeeheee
I do not like it. There is no guarantee that you do not close your site "tomorrow" and all owners of ATP remain with nothing

This is very true! However what do i gain from doing that?
all deposits of users....such as mtgox

That I can not legally do. If i did decide to shutdown for some odd reason (not going to happen but if it did) I would legally have to give users dutiful notice to withdraw and still process any remaining withdrawals even after closure until all accounts are reasonably settled. AKA I cant take anyone's $ and run I would be locked up within minutes.

Advertisement pool update - thanks again to those of you who donated.

I am aka MarcSummers. You might be interested to know how your donations are being put to work. While I originally intended to send it to Byron to use toward whatever he does advertisement-wise, he told me to keep it and do something with it. So, I found that google adwords will work within a small budget. $5 dollars/day in our case seemed reasonable as 0.15 btc was raised. Because Google is way behind the times, they dont accept btc yet, so I am funding our little ad campaign presonally and ill reimburse myself with the btc that was raised. adwords appears to do some cost optimization for a few days, so today was the first day of any real activity. Conveniently, they dont charge for impressions, only clicks, so thats like a free billboard. Please note, I dont know what Im doing and learning along the way ;) judging by the info below, ill probably include more searches with "exchange" or "buy". There are many search terms with alot of impressions, though only these produced clicks.

Some basic info about its effectiveness

June 13, I created an order to sell 63.51042047 ATP at a price  0.1 BTC. A few hours later the order was executed, but the balance was only 1.15 BTC. The rest of the money went to the fee. At the time the order was created there was no information about commission of 90%. Later in the chat admin ByronP wrote that he bought my ATP with the commission of 90% and after that I was banned on site exchange.

1) enter the overall summary statistics in BTC. parallel to or instead of the dollar.
2) receive bonuses on all ATP coins. and those that are on the account (AVAILABLE), and those that are for sale, but there are my (HOLD). It promotes more your coin.

Please consider my sentences on site operation:
1) enter the general summary statistics into BTC. parallely or instead of dollar.
2) calculate bonuses on all coin ATP. and those that lie on the account (AVAILABLE), and on those that are offered for sale, but is my (HOLD). It popularizes your coin more.

I transferred some darkcoin into atomic-trade about 2 hours ago.  No pending deposit, no balance.  I tried to open a chat with support, no one available.  I opened a ticket, they didn't give me a ticket number for reference and they haven't responded as of yet.  I would suggest that anyone planning on doing business at this site, take my experience to heart.  I'll update this thread if things work out, but I'm starting to be concerned.

It's been about 8 hours since my deposit was recorded in the blockchain.  I have not received a reply to my ticket nor has my account wallet been updated to reflect a change in the balance.  Luckily (I suppose) the transaction indicates that the funds have not been redeemed.  Presumably, they are still awaiting some resuscitation on the site back end.  I am still holding out hope.  I just thought other potential customers of this site should be aware of the turn-around time for having tickets resolved through this exchange.

Try catching Byron in chat or on the twitter.  For a one man team, the support is excellent.
I've never heard of anyone having a issue go unresolved or unresponded to for very long.  From my own experience I've had issues fixed within 24 hours which is faster then any other exchange I've used (and some of those actually employed support teams!).
Its one of the reasons I choosing Atomic as my preferred exchange as I've found it to reliable and trustworthy.  I have no concerns about using it or keeping my coins there and have been a member for months now without problems.

Nope so no bots on exchange either.

It doesn't mean a bot can't be made to work with atomic-trade though. For example, you can program the bot to issue trades right through the web interface using site scrapping techniques. This is exactly what I did for mintpal despite them not having a trading api publicly available.

I haven't bother with atomic-trade only because the volume isn't there.

True but it does keep script kiddies that don't what they are doing from flooding the exchange with .0001BTC trades.

Someone that knows what they are doing and is automating smart trades is a different matter. We could use the volume increase.

Did the exchange operators actually say they're going back on their plan to implement a trading api? The last relevant post I found regarding this is here:

Does Atomic have a trade API?

trade api is what i'm working on now. It is based on tcp socket messages so it can be robust and provide real time information without the hassles of http.

So whatever the hell happened to this plan? Any serious exchange must have some kind of trading api imo.

Far as I know it is still on his to-do list but not sure how high compared to other projects.

But a lot of what has been done is infrastructure that does not show when using exchange but will keep exchange up when API is opened up

I am working on is transferring everything over to a system that is based purely on an api. So even the website runs off of the api. This will  coincide with the switch to our own private data center.

in trying to sign up, all I see on the sign up page is 5 boxes, and some text, of which I assume the first is a place for your name, second and 3rd are password and veriification of password, 4th and 5th, possibly a place for email address and verification.

Using firefox and internet explorer, both show the same thing.

what  have I blocked or what am I missing?

I do see the captcha/question box, the agreement check box and the buttons for [create account] and [sign in].

otherwise the only text shown is:
Atomic Trade Registration.
Please register to get access.
Requires 6-16 Characters.
(Username: uppercase and lowercase ALA: Someusername).
Requires 6-32 Characters.
(Password: uppercase, lowercase and number mix required ALA: Somepassword99).
Fields are case sensitive.

password, can I use special characters? of just caps and lower case and numbers

are there limitations on how many coins, of any type I can deposit and/or trade at any one time?

thanks

thanks

You can use special characters and its probably a good idea :)
There is also google 2fa that can be enabled afterwards for some added security for your account.

No limits on quantity you can deposit or withdraw, and Atomic does not charge extra for withdrawals, only the network/miners fee is deducted from the amount withdrawn.
There is min value that a created order has to equal (eg 0.0001 BTC), and a limit on the number of orders that can be created/kept open for each pairing. Its not necessary to purchase expert but it unlocks other features and allows a much high number of orders in each pairing (much more then the average person would make use of)

I did everything and in correspondence to me this man said that I need a little podozhdat.Potom I wrote to him, but he did not answer. It took more than 2 months and so far they owe me money. You need to wait for deposit to be confirmed, it can take between 10-30 minutes.  See below

Please read and learn about Bitcoin and how it works
Why do I have to wait 10 minutes?

Receiving a payment is almost instant with Bitcoin. However, there is a 10 minutes delay on average before the network begins to confirm your transaction by including it in a block and before you can spend the bitcoins you receive. A confirmation means that there is a consensus on the network that the bitcoins you received haven't been sent to anyone else and are considered your property. Once your transaction has been included in one block, it will continue to be buried under every block after it, which will exponentially consolidate this consensus and decrease the risk of a reversed transaction. Every user is free to determine at what point they consider a transaction confirmed, but 6 confirmations is often considered to be as safe as waiting 6 months on a credit card transaction.

What is with the signing in process with Atomic Trade?

Firstly, the site doesn't behave well in chrome, which I prefer.

Secondly,  I remember it took me about five attempts to get an account set up, but now my password doesn't work.

I have tried a password reset, but the when I follow the email link to the reset page and enter a new password I just get sent back to the reset password page again - it's an endless loop.

I signed up a few months ago, but these problems have really put me off using it.

At approximately 10:49 AM EST on Aug 23 2014 the Virtual Machine (VM) and its associated Virtual Hard Drives (VHD) that resided on Microsoft's Azure platform and contained our customer data for lack of a better term went poof. Microsoft's official word on this is as follows “Thank you for your update. I understand your frustration regarding your deleted data. Unfortunately, as I have mentioned in my previous email, we do not the tools to restore customer data due to security, privacy and compliance reasons. There is nothing that I can do at this point to restore your data”.

Due to the overwhelming size of the database our backup structure is one designed to only minimize the damage in the event of such a catastrophic failure. Daily backups resided on one of the afflicted VHD's while monthly offsite backups are still available. Our last monthly offsite backup is approximately 2 week’s old meaning we have lost about 2 weeks of trade data, balances, registrations, deposits, withdrawals, etc. Such a loss is something I hoped never would happen however despite my plea to Microsoft to try and restore the data they contend the following "Azure cloud storage does not function in the same way as conventional SAN on premise storage solution, we do not have the ability to access storage directly and recover specific data".

It saddens me very much to have lost faith in the idea of cloud computing and its ability to reliably store data.

In light of this I have decided it best to offer everyone 2 options:
  • We continue using the current site and infrastructure as planned until we switch over to our private servers.
  • I break my back and try and get the new system up and running as fast as possible while leaving the site offline.

Both solutions still mean we have to deal with the loss of data. This will mean a loss for some and a gain for others. As I have no way of knowing any balances, trade data, deposits, withdrawals, new accounts, etc. after the last offsite backup. I am open to any and all suggestions so please feel free to include your constructive input.

I'm not sure what this means. I think it means that you still have the private keys for wallets in cold storage, but just don't have any account / trade data since the last backup. If that's the case, perhaps the right way to deal with this is:

(1) start with the last backup

(2) measure deposits / withdrawals since the last backup, based on blockchain data (surely you at least know the static addresses involved)

(3) apportion the net difference between accounts based on the verifiable deposits and withdrawals of each user since the last backup

Let's say for simplicity that there's 10 BTC in cold storage for all of Atomic Trade, and total deposits since last backup were another 10 BTC. If my user account balance 2 weeks ago was 1 BTC, and I deposited 1 BTC since then as verified on the blockchain record, I would receive a total adjusted balance of 2 BTC.

This really sucks though. I would expect to see a more active approach to M$. I'd be happy to help with a demand letter, etc. If you don't have any funds in cold storage offline, though, I would just say don't do anything crazy!

Exchanges are not a safe place to store your crypto. We should have learned from CryptoRush's crash.  thankfully I did and will only have lost $85 from this. I will still trade on Atomic when It come back online  ;D  Good luck ByronP with this issue

Interesting idea the wallets are all fine they back up 3 times a day to an encrypted redundant storage system. I could probably write a script to reprocess all the wallet transactions but this wont account for the amounts traded and may make things worse... I will have to think about this one and how it would work and yes I am extremely unhappy with the way they are operating and the contempt show in there responses but that is probably no surprise what does surprise me is there complete and utter lack of responsibility since from my reading this has happened to many people. At least the private rack is already in place and awaiting the final software to bring the new site online.

Basically I would be happy if you get my account back up and it has my old balance, plus BTC I deposited since then. (And for folks who deposited alt coins, should have their alt coins). Since we deposit to static addresses, even the old backup should still have the deposit add'ys, and those can be matched with public blockchain data. Thus the only loss is whatever we made or lost trading since last backup. And given the low volume on the site, it's guaranteed to be pretty low numbers provided we don't lose deposits.

Yes, we can't trust our private keys to other folks. Yet we do, b/c we want to buy and sell alt coins and we're too lazy to join Bitcoin WoT, or to deal directly.

A good majority of this could have been avoided.

Exchange owners need to quit relying on their databases and start using the wallets features to their advantage.

Trader creates an account on the website: web server either assigns them a unique customer id number or uses their email address or other unique identifier, calls getaccountaddress "userid" and tells the customer to send to that address to fund their account.

Trader receives coins to fund their account: web server isn't involved.

Trader is shown their current balance: getbalance "userid" 6 to get their 'confirmed' balance, and subtracts it from getbalance "userid" 0 to get their 'unconfirmed' balance.

Show the trader a list of transactions: listtransactions "userid"

Trader sends coins to another bitcoin address: sendfrom "userid" <address> <amount> - This prevents the server wallet balance from getting drained by an individual user, ask Cryptsy or Coinex about that one.

Trader transfers coins to another trader: move "userid1" "userid2" <amount>

Trader is charged a fee for use of the service: move "userid" "FEES" <amount> (using special accounts like "FEES" can make your application's logic much simpler)

This way when your database takes a shit but you still have the wallet you will be able to correlate user account names and their account balances.

I've seen it happen several times and I have seen the damage from sending funds from the server wallet using "sendtoaddress" AKA sending from their main wallet instead of using "sendfrom" which will only allow people/users to move/withdraw available funds.

Using "sendtoaddress" is what caused a lot of exchanges to get their entire server wallet drained, when if they would have used "sendfrom" the most that could ever be sent/withdrawn from a user account is what was actually in their account.

This would be helpful in this situation because even if you didn't know the trades that occurred you would know that all the users balances are correct.

What is status of ATP and CCS, 2 weeks old also?

Well the odds are low (but not 0) that you won't lose all your data again before moving to new servers.

Bring Atomic up on current sys with old data will allow you to deal with all our screams of agony then work on moving to new system and then deal with pain of the move.

Going straight to new sys means listening screams here then mass confusion as we get a an unknown UI and old data at the same time.

For me this even worse because many coins I did not loose from a Trojan attack on home PC I sent to AT this week.

Best to take time and minimize errors. There will be a rush to make withdrawals as soon as the site is back up, so either make sure the balances are as accurate as they can get, or else have to freeze w/d until they are. Don't want to end up with an overall deficit like Vircurex.

I'm shocked and still processing.  What about the status of ATP and CCS we have?  How can Microsoft get away with such a poorly designed service, surely before their maintenance they would have some protection in place to recover if something wrong without needed to access the data itself like backup images of VM/VHDs?   They say 99.9% available on all their azure services here https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/legal/sla/
Why can't they restore the site to as it was before the maintenance began?

Good points-- something to consider in the future, but this won't help with the current situation.

Personally, I'm fine with the lost trades, if the balances are restored according to each blockchain.

I have a suggestion for the future. Kind of a rough patch for last-case backup of account data. Why not allow users to export a copy of their personal ledgers, GPG-signed by Atomic Trade. Most people wouldn't bother, but folks with larger balances might. Then we have the comfort of holding some tangible proof of AT's obligations to depositors.

That said, anything that encourages people to be lazy and not withdraw balances from the account is potentially dangerous. No matter how trustworthy the operator, there is *always* a possibility for data loss. I just don't think it is possible to protect fully against damage from possible wallet loss or theft. Any representation to the contrary is irresponsible.

Maybe it's time to go a step further, and actively encourage fund withdrawals. Say, for any balance over some de minimis amount, the site would charge "interest" on deposits (except for deposits that are subject to an open order). Ouch, I know. But it would sure get people to w/d their funds in a timely fashion.

Please keep in mind (not to downplay the situation) that we are talking about 2 weeks of data not lost or stolen wallets. Once we switch to our own servers we can keep lots of DB backups since the transfer is to local devices where as the problem with using the cloud is the time it takes to transfer such large amounts of data prohibits keeping too many onsite backups.

But let me just thank you all for continuing to support my work as we move forward and take these problems in stride and continue to evolve into the best exchange possible.

It already is... there were daily backups on a vhd and monthly offsite backups. It is very hard to keep more backups than that using the cloud since transferring 160+gb of data takes forever... I believe this is in part due to network rate limiting on there part. However like I said this will not be an issue with the new system. Which will also allow for complete reporting functions without the need to detach the database.

I really don't take kindly to anyone or a  corporation trying to screw people or it's customers over.
If my accounts lost some coins I will accept it since your exchange has been very supportive of listing Photon and the other blake coins.
I suggest you persue whatever solution is best for the long term success of the exchange and preservation of most customers funds.

Some action may have to be taken against who is deemed the parties responsible for this eventually.

So what I am thinking is that any missing accounts should be recreated and can be credited based on the deposits/withdrawals since the wallets store each accounts unique id with each address and transaction. Which means I will bring the site back up with limited functionality while I write a script to parse all wallets. The script will work on a secondary copy of the data and once everything is verified we will switch to the altered database.

Byron please let us know who at microsoft is responsible for not taking care of you.

Bring it back up with deposit, withdrawal and trades disabled.

That's what I am doing the backend servers are coming back up right now.
switch off the exchange and deal with base. I at the exchange had about 200 dollars, and now shows 300+, but at the exchange there was money in other coins - BLC and UMO.

surely u have to pay coins back to everybody doesnt matter if its ms fault or not - customers/users only care to have coins not whos responsible
also exchange should have daily backups so u should have copy of db before ms fucked it.

it is strange that there is no such copying of a database.

I just logged onto my AT account for the first time since Friday evening. What a weekend you've been having, ByronP! I'm so sorry :(

It looks like you are on the right track in solving it--building a script to rebuild everyone's balances using the block chain data. One update that will be very helpful (both here and on Twitter) is an ETA on when that process will be complete. Then we can know what to expect.

The main thing I've been doing over the past two weeks is chatting, so accumulating ATP, and collecting the tiny payments from my ATP holdings (which are not super significant). I don't know if you have a way to restore ATP balances or not. A few days ago, someone in chat tipped me 0.009 ATP, so it's a bummer to "lose" that. I know, not much in the grand scheme of things, but it was my very first tip here.

And whatever else happens, I would encourage backups that are more than monthly. I think several times a day is a minimum, considering how much coins move around--it is an exchange. But that's for the future.

Anyway, my two cents. Hope it helps. Really sorry this happened to you (and to us).

of course in hindsight it is easy to say things could have been backed up better, but who expects their cloud provider to delete all your data including your daily backups on all 6 (maybe more?) redundancies which are geographically distributed?

registered on the 12th, so I guess I need to re-register again *sigh*
I have a few questions though, please bare with me... my knowledge maybe a few years outdated
the last time I actively do programming & technical stuff was about 10 years ago

Daily backups resided on one of the afflicted VHD's while monthly offsite backups are still available.
I'm not sure how VHD works, but shouldn't the daily backup be saved on separate location?
for the offsite backup & bandwidth constraints... isn't there a way to do incremental backup system
in a way that you don't have to actually backup the whole things & only the diff since last backup

Maybe you can explain what bandwidth restraints have to do with it?

It doesn't take a month to transfer a backup, does it? That'd be 61 kBps....

Why can't backups be continuous?

Normally with hosting plans you are only allowed to transfer so much data per month.  I can't speak to the terms of his plan but that external backup traffic would count against his overall cap on bandwith transfer for the month.

No wallets have been compromised, No coins have been lost, Byron is currently bringing back the exchange to a working state, NOT claiming to have been hacked and running off with you coins.

The whole db cant be more than a couple of GB in size, since its a young and small exchange. I doubt its hard or expensive to make a daily backup. Byron could also setup a master/slave db system to avoid such problems in the future.

I doubt that. The whole okcoin transaction database is less than 5GB without compression, and they had thousands of trades per day for more than half a year. The leaked mtgox db with transactions and some user account info was around 2GB afair.
If you add user info, coin addresses and some other info it still cant be that much.

In a manner of speaking yes I will not trust cloud storage ever! But the decision to not keep the server array was the right choice since it was a major bottleneck and could not handle the IO's per sec. I don't know what other exchanges do but I log everything not just trades, accounts, and balances. Every RX or TX has 2 records alone... anyway I am not going to debate what I store that's silly and a waste of precious time.

If not for fairness, then certainly he would pay us back for legal reasons; Atomic-Trade is a bonafide MSB afterall. Byron is quite determined to get it right.

Just a honest warning here.

Traded for a couple months in here without an hitch, now after being away for almost a month i came back to see my account trades, withdrawal and receive history gone and my account zeroed. No withdrawal history to check where my coins gone or money in account.
Support tickets done nothing, even after they got answered.
Beware your coins are NOT safe.

It pains me to do this because i hate to do badmouthing, but since nothing is done after almost a month i cant stay still while people try to act serious and cant manage a company and their costumers....

we believe, but it is bad that there is no information from Byron.
Maintenance delayed...already passed a week :(
It seems ByronP has problems with update.

No need for exaggeration, its not been a week yet and Byron has been posting updates on the AT twitter.

Some patience, if you seen the beta (and its been open for public testing the last month, along with the language translation) then you know good things are coming VERY SOON :)
No exaggeration at all. And i saw the beta and participated in translation.

I like new functions and layout, but there is still much to do AT to become a perfect market.

ByronP, for example, a 'could not connect to server' message on Firefox. I already wrote you about this.

Maybe you can add a PM message, when one has successfully traded some coins?
Something like this: "You successfully bought/sold blah-blah coins etc..."

You can always view your History.  Big button up top.  One of the first things I look at :D

Atomic-trade is down today. Any problems?

Don't panic, its the changeover to Banx as they have bought the exchange to add their services. It was announced just over a week ago.  Very exciting that professional operators are entering the scene. After "BTER III : The Final Hack" its really time that users stop using insecure and untrustworthy exchanges.  Atomic is one of the only exchanges that is built from ground up by its owner, not some "off the rack" script exchange here. :)

Who's panic? I only asked what's happened.
And Btw, if really professional operators are entering the scene, they can do it invisibly to users and exchange will not be down throughout the day.
Cheers to "professional operators"  ???

Consider its also a merging of 2 different platforms banx.io and atomic-trade.com, there is prob some checking/auditing to done of the imported users from the other platform. It was mentioned in the announcements would be some downtime (about 5-8 hours) for this transition, so what more can be done to be more professional?

Consider that they had a lot of time to prepare a merge and do all tech things before they bought an atomic and go live. If they a real professionals.
Users should not suffer because of someone's business interests.

Oh, problem with DNS redirects? Do a simple DNS redirect is very complicated to real professionals  ;D
