Depends what your economical situation is. If no money at all then it would be best to be somewhere with good social system and free stuff, if some money then maybe a cheap tropical country, something in the south-east asia or so. If lots of money then it would be nice to be just all over the place.

In all honesty, if I either had a lot of money or a constant source of passive income that would come in no matter where I was in the world, I'd probably either go in SE Asia or somewhere on the Mediterranean coast.

Life is indeed cheap there. SA has one of the highest murder rates in the world.

But I guess that is not what you meant. ;)

An island somewhere like the seychelles or fiji. All I'd need is a fast boat and a bungallow on the beach.

I would live in Japan. Beautiful country overall and close to the rest of the world, aka not the U.S. I wouldn't have to spend a boatload of money to travel to Europe, Asia or Australia if I lived there as well.

They have a bit of a radiation problem since the last few years and occasional typhoons, earthquakes and tsunami's. Plus I really don't like what they do with the whales and the dolphins.

I think I'd prefer Switzerland or New Zealand. They are nice stable countries with wonderful landscapes.

Oh I know it's very cold there. But, hunting in that weather is amazing. The fishing lakes around are amazing too. I've read a book and heard similar stories from not so famous people.

Same with the Cote d'Azure in France... Nice is a nice (haha) place. If you want world-class skiing, the alps are just nearby, too.

Or Sweden, maybe Norway.
It's cold out there and lack of sun for many months, but they have the highest life standards in the world and one of the healthiest economies. Unfortunately high taxes too...

Perhaps they have high taxes, but the minimum salary in Norway amounts to around $20 USD. Plus, if you enjoy cooking your own meals, you can save a lot of money there since fast food is astronomically expensive.

Personally, I wouldn't be able to deal with the sun only being out between 10am and 2pm.. :/

Europe is further from Japan than it is from the US.

OT: Difficult question, wouldn't want to be stuck in one place my whole life. If someone offered me a decent job in Curacao, I would go right away. Same goes for Australia, civilized Asia, the US, Scandinavia.

Yeah, it totally kicks ass. I went on a vacation to Amazonia to do crazy shit like feed Piranha off the side of a boat. I just couldn't leave the area without spending some time in Rio again. It is so easy to get laid there and I'm not remotely attractive.  ;)

I would love to live in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Barcelona, or Switzerland if I had the money... but honestly I wouldn't want to live there for more than 2 years. I've been to all those places and no matter where I go I start missing the comfort of America. Just little things like water fountains being available, not having to pay for bathrooms, faster internet, more space, larger food portions, food being available late at night, being able to own a car, etc... we are really spoiled and America has that comfort that I haven't seen anywhere else in the world and I've travelled to a lot of places.

Why only one place ?
My dream is to be able to afford an over 50 foot sailboat and have enough money to live confortably on board.
Then 4 or 5 rounds around the world would not be bad at all before retirement, 2 years in Australia, 2 in Rio, 2 years in Fiji, Bora Bora, then Galapagos, US, Holand, Italy, South Africa, etc...

I don't think there would be one place I'd like to settle down either. I'd also like to travel around, but I don't know if I'd like my permanent base to be a boat, but it would be nice to maybe have enough money to sail around the world for a year or so and go whereever you like.

For normal living it is good where I live but I dream about summerhouse on seashore in France and winter house somewhere in Alps in Italy.
If only 1 btc = $100k...

I'd also like to travel around, but I don't know if I'd like my permanent base to be a boat, but it would be nice to maybe have enough money to sail around the world for a year or so and go whereever you like.

you can, when 1 btc = $100k

Well hopefully that will come true because I would certainly have the money to do that if 1BTC = $100k, but I reckon that'll be a very long time away yet, but who knows?

I want to live in the United Kingdom looks great over there.

As long as you can afford it!

Seriously though, I love London...

Who needs money to live here? Give us free money and we don’t pay any tax / NHS healthcare, yes please many thanks (http://www.bbcode.org/). How does the Grey UK look now? haha.

But yeah London is expensive.

It's not the kind of true story you're thinking of, though! The "killing people for money" part is apparently true according to Roth and Harry Knowles, but the girls leading the guys to death... Not true.

Though it's not impossible to find hot women at hostels... I speak from experience!

Yes, it's based on 'partially true events'. People have been kidnapped for torture games for sure. Foreigners adn backpackers meeting in a new city + a few drinks and dancing = sex.

I wasn't being serious about Hostel being based on a trust story. Half of these crappy horror films claim to be based on a true story, but in reality are mostly BS. Apparently The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was just about a neighbourly dispute over some hedge-trimmers that got blown out of proportion.

Ok, back on topic - If Bitcoin value goes through the roof the first place I'd go to would be Thailand:

If I had that much money, then I would try living in several places, just to see how it's like to live in a certain country, then from that point I will take my pick as to where I want to reside permanently.

I love Australia, especially Sydney... Bondi beach.
But I've also been looking at the Philippines.. the price is right.

Although wherever I'd go, it would only be a second home away from home. There are too many perks to having a Swedish residency that I just couldn't part with. The only thing I want to part with is the winter.

May-December: Sweden
January-April: tropical paradise.

I'd love to go here and other places in Italy. I haven't read Inferno yet but have all his others. I know people slag Dan Brown off for not being the greatest of writers based on literary merit, but I just really love his stories and the books are so easy to get into.

I'd love to go here and other places in Italy. I haven't read Inferno yet but have all his others. I know people slag Dan Brown off for not being the greatest of writers based on literary merit, but I just really love his stories and the books are so easy to get into.

Yeah, his books are fun and very light reads. It's refreshing to read a book of his once every couple of months since they're easy page turners.

I've only read Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons so far, though.

They're his best two, but The Lost Symbol is also good. Might try read Inferno on whatever the next holiday is I go on. Maybe Florence haha.

Yeah they're amazing. Lost Symbol is good. I know what you mean about thee literary element to his books, and I've seen all the critics' comments on it, but it doesn't matter so much when you have a good story I don't think. Although, his books do always leave me slightly deflated at the end when theirs no payoff. Like trying to masturbate immediately after masturbating.

Critics... As I do with movies, I usually take their word with a grain of salt. Either that, or I read their critical perspectives as entertainment itself. It's very rare for critics to be equally critical when evaluating works that have different purposes. So basically, with Brown being a writer who focuses less on prose and more on plot and entertainment value, I think he's successful in his endeavors.

Anyways... Maybe I should Inferno next summer in Florence as well!

Yeah fair point, he's definitely entertaining. Inferno will be a great read while there as, like all Dan Brown books, there are loads of references to the specific architecture. You'll be able to picture it perfectly.

Unless you work in the country, I'd say the most expensive country would be Norway much more than the US. In terms of cities, London for example is more expensive than both NYC and LA.

I think that. I don't think I could retire and do absolutely nothing. It'd be well boring. I like the chase of wealth, and fear that I'd get bored once that chase was over.

My mother is from there. It is the fucking paradise. At the horizon, the infinite sky is melting with the deep blue ocean.  When the big ships go far away, you can see them falling behind the horizon limit. It feels like the time stopped. You feel infinity and eternity.
At night, the sky is so saturated with bright stars that you can see like it is the day.
It's like being on heroin all the time.
People are extremely nice and peaceful too. They are great dancer and musician, they just worry about enjoying life everyday. Girls want to fuck all the time.
Why the fuck am I staying in France. I hate French people so much (the food is good though).

The French Polynesia area is wide like Europe, it is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, very far from any continent. From there, if you look the planet from above there is only blue. It is more than 99% water from that point of view.
It is infinity.

Beautifully described :) Thats my dream, to live somewhere near the ocean, have a small house on the beach and a boat. What saddens me the most is that it wouldn't be hard to make it happen. If I sold all my stuff I'd have enough to move and buy a house there. But there are other issues like leaving friends behind, or not having enough to come back in case something went wrong. It's like burning bridges behind you. If I don't do it though I'll be dreaming about it till I die.

Most governments are corrupt. I'd say the US and UK are far more corrupt than most devolving countries, and they're usually puppet regimes supported by them anyway.

You need to leave all your habits. Habits are part of you. Even my mother who is from Polynesia wouldn't like to live there because she'd gotten used to Occidental way of life. All her life she felt stuck between the two cultures. She plan to go back as she get older.

Maybe you could go to your dream place when you have nothing to loose, when you are older.

Most governments are corrupt. I'd say the US and UK are far more corrupt than most devolving countries, and they're usually puppet regimes supported by them anyway.
Lol US and UK? Try going to Mexico, Cuba or some countries of the former Soviet Union. This is Corruption, with capital C.

All the country in the world are corrupted because of the principle of election.
Good men don't want to be elected. It mean that only the worst scum of this world end up elected president.

There was only one democracy in human history. It happened around 550 BC in Athens.
Since that, the world is infinite corruption. End of the story.

If I was filthy rich and didn't even need to worry about managing my investments I would definitely settle down in French Polynesia. At least that's what I would like to believe, maybe I would get bored out of my mind after a year or two there.  :)

Changing environment require sacrifices. Even if you are granted the chance to go to paradise right now, would you do it ? Most people would be scared and wouldn't.

That would be great - I don't want to end up like my parents, living my whole life in the same country and never seeing the world. It's not the habits I have a problem with, I could manage without computer and a grocery store next to my house. The worst habit are people you like spending time with.

True. Democracy existed until power hungry people learned to bend the rules in their favour.

I was thinking this the other day and I found it hard to choose one

I am a nature lover so I would like to stay at a place that is close to nature. Tropical islands are example of such a place. There are lots of Tropical Islands in the world such as:
•         Seychelles
•         Maldives
•         Solomon island
•         Ko Lipe
•         Bali
I am a calm person and for me Solomon Island is the perfect place providing all the necessities. It’s a beautiful island where one can enjoy diving, mesmerizing beaches, adorable tourist spots etc. You can expect a great stay here. There is Airport (International Honiara Airport), Trendy shopping place (Honiara's expansive Central Market), World class hotels (visit websites www.zipolohabu.com.sb, www.solomonislandsresorts.com, www.heritageparkhotel.com.sb ) etc.

As far as I know climate is pretty moderate cause its surrounded by ocean. So not much temperature variation in summer vs. winter. But the real gem with New Zealand is that there's so many different environments all in one place - there's sandy beaches, there's snow-capped mountains, there's forests, rivers, etc all in one place.

It should become safer in the next few years... Not days I think.

It does seem like a beautiful country, though. It'd be amazing to visit one day.
