Hacking is not only a problem in cryptospace, it's happening everyday, websites get hacked for data, people's personal computers get hacked to gain passwords etc, social media accounts get hacked for whatever reasons and so on. There's a lot of money going around in cryptospace and a lot of people are careless with their security of their wallets and computers etc. On top of this the risk of getting caught for hackers is very low, so interesting for them. Same goes for the Exchanges, they are big targets and not all of them have their security in order, cold storage of funds is a must imo. There always will be hacking attempts because they are one step ahead of the security measures. Sadly we have to live with it.

Not just crypto currency. A better question would be why is everything being hacked. Bank accounts get hacked on a daily basis too and not to mention all the genius phishing scams all over the internet. We just need to take the necessary safety precautions like with everything else  :)

Bitcoin is the protocol running on the blockchain, it has never been "hacked".

What is getting hacked are unsecured web wallets, servers, and even personal wallets when the user is stupid enough to download malware programs that are promising to mine at huge rates or to double his coins.
This is not the fault of bitcoin, it's the fault of the ones providing services with no clue how to do this securely.
Besides, most of those "server hacks" are just exit scams.

It is not bitcoin network that is being hacked and there is no reported news about bitcoin itself being hacked because it is the exchanges that have poor security and the people that are careless of protecting their private keys and wallets. But it can possibly done in some cryptocurrency and lately there are several coins that reportedly became a victim of 51% attack because the hash power of those coins are not distributed equally and can easily perform an attack.

Getting hacked is not only a problem for the users of crypto it is a great issue.

Also, Bitcoin and cryptos don't get hacked only the reason something get hacked because of our mistakes otherwise there is no way to hack any address.

I think most of these are false news. They just want to make bad and then trick you into selling your token, which affects the price of the token. This is a common price manipulation method.

The people want to earn easy money they use the talent in the bad way that's the goals of the hackers, to avoid this need to be careful always check your online wallet where your investment stored. And donot show it to others aside from your very trusted family member.

The same can be said with banks, did they stop flourishing when a lot of theft is happening? When some of their branches are being rob by robbers? I don't think so, criminals are always where the money is. And since Bitcoin and crpotucurrencies exist digitally then no doubt this criminals will also try to steal everything virtually. Now it will be up to us if we will fell trap to phishing sites or HYIP investment schemes or on any hacks. because many people are like you! they read something and their brain only registers a small portion of what they read. you read some exchange was hacked and you registered it as bitcoin got hacked. they also read something about security and how to do it properly and their little brains registered it as a hot wallet is safe kind of thing!

because exchanges are not focusing on bug bounties, they should pay a handsome amount to bug bounty hunters so that they can find a bug and report to the relevant exchange about the possible threat

You can only be hacked if you get into a phising/fake sites and when you logged your sensitive info there. Blockchain is impossible to be hack or the server itself and it only be hacked when a person holding a cryptocurrency is not aware on what website did they enter that may have viruses that stole private keys or leaving a great amount of altcoin in an exchange site. Storing on exchange sites are not advisable same as the other storage that holds your private key. The thing here is you need to be aware of anything that could steal your digital assets, or try to have a hardware wallet for higher level security.

As the number of users in Bitcoin getting higher and higher, there will always be conflicts between things. In this case, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency always getting hacked because of the immaturity and greed of other people to gain much money and learn the process of investments.

Thats problem cannot be solved but its avoidable with the safety precaution,using offline wallet its hars to hack by the hackers like ledger nano s and trezzor always do not give your password and private key to the anonymous person.But speaking of how to vanish them we cannot vanish them because right now is a digital age many things are posible with digital technology.

Here is why exchanges get frequently hacked:

1) Most of the exchanges are not serious about security. For instance, if you check the programs on Hackerone, only one exchange is using it (Coinbase). That program itself has got huge number of submissions from security researchers. If they also avoided paying for those bugs, those bugs would have been exploited by hackers.


2) In some cases, even the exchange itself might be involved. We cannot rule out this possibility especially because prices of crypto are rising. Such a case recently happened in India.

Do you have a proof that Bitcoin or crypto currencies is being hacked? I know that Bitcoin is hacked in the past, but that is way way in the past when Bitcoin is just a new one and not that developed. We all know that exchanges and wallets are being hacked but not really Bitcoin and these crypto currencies since the only being hacked are wallets and exchanges.

first of all bitcoin is NOT getting hacked. it is the wallets of the users/services which is getting hacked because of human error.

secondly the more something is being used the more reports like this you will hear. for example when vehicles were invented and the first car was built and when there were only a handful of them around the number of car accidents were non-existent! but today as billions of people use cars there is a lot of car accidents. that is the same with bitcoin usage. when there were only a couple of people using bitcoin when block 1 was mined there were no hacks. but now that millions of people are using bitcoin there are more wallet hack reports.

Yes, you're right. So many bitcoins and altcoins accounts has been hacked and one of the reason is the carelessness of the people in sharing of personal information and other relevant information and the second reason is there are no stable and powerful securities that will protect our data and privacy. Maybe, those wallets has higher securities but it is not mean that you are safe. How about the third parties? Did you know or Do you know how they handle your data and shared it to others? I admit that they (hackers) are intelligent people. Because this is really beyond my thinking, even though we already have secure security, but they are more clever. So we must continue to improve the account security system, and we must remember that hackers are not just in the crypto world. Because my friend is also a victim of social media hackers.

yes it's true cryptocurrency has often been hurt by hackers and there should be a more intensive counterattack to hacker attacks not only prevent but there is a kind of crypto police that handles this.

Remember one thing, there is a difference between services that use bitcoins and the Bitcoin protocol being hacked. I can have some limited knowledge and then I decide to develop some website where people trade with Crypto currencies and this website might be full of exploits, because I do not know what I am doing. This is what is happening with some of these exchanges.

Some even buy White label exchange scripts to run their sites, without proper knowledge and experience to do this and these scripts might be full of backdoors.  ::)

if for example a token is hacked at moment x

for that moment x there must be a database where it must be possible to check the wallet addresses at moment x and the corresponding amounts

then a new digital asset will be created, (only for token with a central management)

then the distribution of the new token will be done according to the moment x initially before the currency was hacked.

the old token will be publicly declared illegit and a dead ghost asset. the new digital asset becomes the true one.

Why should this be news in the first place? Banks gets hacked, Hbo was hacked few weeks ago, and alot more hacks. Why should there be a fuss about crypto. It is part of the risk of the business, life itself is a risk. We just hope that there are more preventive measures against hacks in the future

There are many reasons. But I think the main one is still the big hole in systems. So, the question will be raised for the developers or the tech guys who are in charge of systems and security for these platform. Do you remember about the Ethereum case? That's a big hack which cost 20 million Ethereum because of the weak security on port 8584 (this one is so technical I don't want to mention about).

So the point is, if coins don't want to be hacked, the security has to be stronger. Hackers are smart and they can do everything to be rich.

Well it's not always have to be like that because at the first place it's our responsibility to make it safe. At all cause it must be secured and that depends on how we use it properly. It is really hard to protect crypto from the hackers! Hackers are really very smart to do such things. We tried every hard method to prevent them but we failed. Hackers are real and has up their games in the act of hacking. They are so formidable that they can hack into any exchange and private individuals that is not heavily secured. They have gone as far as hacking private emails where they can access the private keys of wallets which will easily enable them to gain access to wallets and cart away much they can see. I think exchanges should work in synergy with each other to recover stolen coins back to the original owners. The hackers do not swallow the coins they will normally take it to an exchange for fiat exchange.

Actually some hacking are happening purposely like they wanted to get out of some scam to prevent themselves they just hack their own site and claim it to be hacked by some hackers. Out of 10 hacking 5 hacking are happening like this only. So i dont think that it will affect cryptocurrency as now a days hacking are happening to other cryptocurrencies and not bitcoin as now hackers are more wise that if they hack other coins which are decentralized then no one can find them. I don't think crypto is constantly getting hacked, let alone "slowly dying" because of hacks. If anything, hacks make it stronger, as they both expose weak projects and tell future ones what to be vary of.

As for the exchanges, they aren't exactly built "the way Satoshi envisioned it"; they are centralized entities that have plenty of weak points which a malicious player can abuse.
