One thing I want to say people wants to says negatively.  this is a new technology, we can't appreciate new things.

Let's clarify: He didn't say Bitcoin will be obsolete one day, he said blockchain technology will be. He also said that it will be on the basis that intelligence agencies will be able to decrypt it. Well, good luck with that I suppose.

I do think blockchain technology being obsolete is an inevitability though, but unlike Friedman, I think it's going to take a couple of lifetimes, and it's going to be because of a similar but superior technology being invented.

Wait for this technology to evolve fully first and then we can talk about the another intelligent technology getting developed with full scale mode. It took more than decade for the blockchain to reveal itself that too partially as we dont know what are the other ways of using it and how powerful it is in the first place. If this tech itself is having so much trouble around the world from getting acceptance in the first glance then how can anyone even think about the other tech to come alive.

I think this article means nothing to me at all as bitcoin will take different usage forms in the later times which we still dont know. We dont know whats the future of whole tech here, what responses it will receive from the regulations and much more things.

That is also the same as saying that all crypto that exists now will be obsolete one day because they all run using blockchain technology. Nevertheless, I don't see blockchain technology being obsolete soon, IMO there are a lot of things that can be improved from it before we move on into seeing a superior technology being invented. Also, It will also take time before intelligence agencies decrypt it because they would need to use a supercomputer that is capable of quantum computing.

To say that blockchein technology is obsolete, it is necessary to compare it with something new, more perfect. While this technology can not be compared with anything. So it's too early to talk about this. It is clear that with time, any technology is out of date and this will sooner or later happen with blocking technology. However, so far this technology is not being used at full strength. Therefore, for blockchein technology, it can be said that everything is still ahead.

Analyst points out the glaringly obvious. Everything we know will be obsolete one day, that's how technology and revolution works. Most things only have a lifespan of a few generations at most.

Blockchain is in its infancy stage and Friedman claiming that this technology will become obsolete? There are lots of problems and issues regarding the said technology and it is looking for a more development that will resolve the current issues face by the users.

Yes i could agree with the analyst and in my opinion the symptoms for this are actually happening nowadays. As we all know that there are too many smart traders and even develop a system that will automatically trade for you that will enable you to earn on it. And this is what happen if you can see the crypto market price volatility is so fast fluctuations are good but we could not get along as we could not always check market price every time like their system. People are getting greedy and this system will collapse and become obselete later on.

I did say it's going to take a couple of lifetimes though, as bolded above. Innovation is a given, and is meant to render past technology obsolete, so it should be perfectly reasonable to assume that something else will take its place in the far, far future. I'm not in any kind of hurry lol.


They're similar, but not the same. Bitcoin being obsolete (which is what the topic says) does not at all imply that the blockchain will be obsolete, but the blockchain being obsolete (which is what the article says) does imply that Bitcoin will be obsolete. The latter implies one thing, while the former says another thing entirely. Friedman, the person in question, doesn't even mention cryptocurrencies, so he's probably talking about the blockchain's potential application in different fields. This also explains the hype he mentions, considering the praise it receives from several high profile people.

If what the 'analysts' say is true then surely crypto is doomed?  BTC is the gold of crypto, the grandfather of crypto etc and the coin which all alts run alongside with.

If this is the case, hopefully it will not be soon, but if this happens in the future then maybe the alts will be able to stand on their own. 

We have so many technology that have become obsolete. Before bitcoin or blockchain technology become obsolete it take up to two millennium. Do not disturb yourself over such analysis.

I think at some point all technologies become obsolete as more advanced technologies come along later. However, we are seeing just the beginning of the cryptocurrency development. This technology is new and innovative and it hasn’t yet had mainstream adoption. I think it will be a hundred years before it becomes obsolete. Until then, it will gradually become more valuable.

Bitcoin, blockchain, or any kind of technologies like the internet in general or mobile phones theoretically has a chance to be obsolete one day. in short.. the cities at continent coast lines can become obsolete before blockchain

now in detail. the article mentions how encryption can become weak after 100 years. which is true. BUT what is not mentioned is that bitcoin and blockchain are not fixed to always us the same encryption for those 100 years.
instead of 256bit encryption things can move onto 1024bit or 2048bit encryption over 100 years.

with that said yes many may see bitcoin as myspace and current blockchain as analog 56k internet. but things evolve upgrade and get better.
at the moment yes the core devs have not done much to bitcoin and are instead adding features which are just trying to push people onto another network thats not blockchain based but does allow other cryptocurrencies to communicate together (LN) lets call LN simply paypal2.0 allowing many websites(crypto's) to advertise and markete themselves on one network.

and yes if btc's fee's/tx count limit(myspace membership/features) are not solved onchain(onsite), many people wont want to return and use myspace(btc) directly and instead prefer to use paypal2.0 and then move away to facebook/amazon/google(a new crypto)

but there will still be an evolution of the internet(blockchain) as a whole and many new cryptos(websites) will develop to meet peoples needs

i know many will argue and defend bitcoin until the sheep have been well fed. but unless the devs announce they will never do another consensus bypass mandatory bilateral split, and instead get back to the original consensus of decentralisation as oppose to distribution(DLT). then btc's risk to becoming 'myspace' is higher

There are two types of supporter all over the world. Some people took it positively and some are negative. They who cannot accept the change they took it as negative. They primarily hate it, but now they are fighting against it. But we know bitcoin will won the battle at the end. May be true or may not be because from last few years people being telling that it will become zero or it is just bubble and so on and till today we have seen how the btc has risen and though at current scenario it is trading at lower price but it should be good again in next coming months.

If you search about the future of bitcoin in google now, you will find many different opinions about the future of it. They are completely different. An analyzer believe that bitcoin will be a global currency and another one thinks quite the opposite. We just should wait to see the future. Don't pay attention to what people say.

I may think that also but it surely takes years for that. Once people never find good things about these, they might just ignored Bitcoin. Since bitcoins shows potentiality as new form of currency and easy to used, people still enjoying it.

"analyst" my ass. first of all this is stating the obvious. it is like saying the Apple iPhone that came out today will be obsolete one day! well of course it will, but it will remain the shit for many years.
secondly it just shows that the author doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. he is basically saying the intelligence services will break the encryption used in the blockchain technology so it will become obsolete. (just a parenthesis here, this encryption is not specific to bitcoin or the technology, it is used in thousand different places. one should wonder why he has never mentioned those 1000 other places will be obsolete too).
now the problem is the "encryption" he is talking about is not used to hide stuff, it is used for security. everything is open to public on the blockchain for everyone to see! and why would intelligence services want to break the security? what would they gain?
besides just like anything before (like SHA1) when there is a remote chance of them being  weak they simply are replaced by a much stronger one (like SHA1 becoming obsolete years before it could begin to be broken and replaced by SHA2)

Bitcoin is blockchain that developed 9 years ago and technology always improve. Right now, many altcoin have better technology than bitcoin and have bigger block but bitcoin more trusted because its pioneer in crypto industry

the technology that was used 2000 years ago is obsolete today because it is either improved or replaced by a newer, better technology. but that technology was used in its own time for a long time and was the best thing in its time. same goes with cryptography. it is an evolving battle where it gets stronger and better and people continue trying to break it.

The great thing about Bitcoin is that it is adaptable to any threat, because it is programmable code. When the intelligence agencies come up with a method to decrypt it <using quantum computers> then developers just improve the encryption techniques to make it harder to decrypt it.

Honestly, to me it does not matter whether bitcoin is obsolete technology of  or not. More importantly, it should grow at the same rate as last year and continue to make us richer.

We have heard a lot of stories carrying FUD about bitcoin and it's not a new thing again. We are used to it. Every one likes to say their own in other to get media attention for themselves. Thy have already thrown everything at it and it kept coming back stronger. But the truth is that blockchain is a game charger and will really help the world evolve.

Obsolete happens oneday,  but not in bitcoin, because bitcoin is a solid one that can survived, meaning that even bitcoin price drop from day to day,  it surly raised,  and no one can stop it from it. Bitcoin will become obsolete? I think that could happen, but it just saying that dollar could become obsolete someday. Everything has its starts and end, and I am sure with that. But it could take a long time in order for a certain currency to end.  Imagine in those old days, when people are using gold as a payment, they even use a little sack with a tie to store those gold coins. But what happened, those gold coins are gone, and it is mostly replaced by bank notes. In the near future, when the technology is not suited to the community it could be obsolete, but it doesn't mean that it lost its value. If one could find a gold coin in the early years, I am sure its value is much higher than the year it is being used.

Newsflash - encryption evolves and so can the systems that use it. How many 'experts' have weighed in by this point in time? It must be well into the tens of thousands. How many have made a worthwhile contribution that made the people who really know their stuff think? None as far as I can tell.

This is possible though, considering the fact that it is only competitive in the market because if how established the coin itself is. Have it compete in the current situation without the high value, it would be sure that bitcoin would die so easily. Compared to other coins of this generation, it only mediocre at best. Yes might be when Quantum computers gets invented.But the researches to make bitcoin codes Quantum proof has started from now itself and we could expect a safer bitcoin in the future.

George Friedman was not referring to bitcoin, he said that blockchain technology will one day become obsolete. The network which the banking sectors, medical sectors, and hospitality sectors sees as the best modern technology. George Friedman is definitely a cryptocurrency hater.

Still I think that bitcoin and blockchain itself are quite vital for now, and why I still hope that it would grow, it's because I put many of my investment capital into it, so hopefully we will see the recovery again.

Is likely to become obsolete one day, it may be tomorrow or 100 years from now, but until a superior technology emerges nobody can overcome Bitcoin in its proposal, not to mention that Blockchain is only in the beginning, it will still yield many benefits.

I don’t think that bitcoin will be obsolete one day because in my opinion bitcoin is very sustainable crypto currency and very versatile too and if we look bitcoin since year 2008 and the success stories of bitcoin billionaires then they simply signify that since year 2008 bitcoin has been very sustainable and I don’t think that bitcoin is a bubble and will end up like bursting because I think this is the starting of bitcoin era and now the countries has started legalising it.

Reality can be otherwise. At a time there was no money before it was trade by barter, there was no computer before, and many things, though adoption of bitcion may take time but gradually it will progress as use of internet is progressing in many part of the world and online e-commerce is progressing too. Something else has to be invented before we can expect obsolete blockchain technology. Everything has its life cycle and no doubt Bitcoin will have its own, but that's not to say there won't be many interations and upgrades to the technology along the way.

I had read several articles that said Bitcoin was dead many times but all their predictions were all wrong. If we looked bitcoin last year it was booming and now, we could say that bitcoin is still alive, even got more investors partake with it.
