For me, I don't think that Ethereum can beat Bitcoin as the Number One in the crypto market, it's because Bitcoin is getting more and more bigger each day because there are more investors coming every time and Ethereum still has a lot to improve in their blockchain and their security features.

Of course very believe if in the future ethereum can grow and develop of course. And we never expected that in the future Ethereum would take over from bitcoin. But for the future I think ethereum will grow

I agree with you. ETH are just Alternative. It mean that you doesn't have to always use BTC. Maybe in the future BTC will became dollar and ETH wil became euro.

Ethereum has such great value only because of its very many projects on its platform. Already now there are a lot of alternative platforms: NEO, stratis, komodo, aikon, kutum, he and they improve their product and I am sure that in the near future they will be able to move the ethereum. Therefore, it will never be number 1

Ethereum blockchain in my opinion is better than bitcoin blockchain, see how many new platforms are released on the basis of ERC 20, and the number of transactions per second of Ethereum is higher, and the Ethereum communication node encoding is also used a lot, for me, Ethereum is more practical and I hope to outpace everyone.

it is possible, but ethereum will have to be so much advanced cryptocurrency, not to mention big global marketing, that surpases bitcoin way much more, but for now, they are so-so, allmost the same, except in price and bitcoin is more famous, every noob heard for bitcoin, and for Eth he didn't even heard of it... Maybe when people will start use tokens regularly, etc, not just for profit, maybe that time, only best cryptocurrencyes will stay.

Well, both beed to improve alot especially they need to deal with the scalability issue and come up with lasting or permanent solutions for this issue, secondly i agree with you that although eth will also grow big overtime but i do not think it can replace btc in terms of market dominancy and volume.

I think they have a distinct role. Bitcoin become an asset for people who want to store their money (like gold in real life). ETH is a blockchain to develop dapp with its smart contract, and it will also grow overtime.

Obviously the growth of Bitcoin is always been exponential meaning that it grows each year with big multiplier. Thus each year if you see then the prices are many more folds higher than the preceding one and thus making it get more stubborn all the time. In case of ETH, just open any book history and you will see that it has been dropped to its base prices of 400 USD and around many times and thus making it very risky one to invest in. Even after this much year period its boom has gone. I think BTC still outlast and it will always be like that.

I think no, because at the moment no one could found a use for Ethereum smart contracts beside ICOs, and ICOs demand is just keeping on decreasing, are you going to put your bet on a decreasing in demand coin or in bitcoin which just attract hype with the most recent developed futures?

Bitcoin is here to stay as the biggest cryptocurrency as it offers much more then just excecuting smart contracts- it offers maximum protection for a minimum price when transferring value over the world, also it has been here from 2009 while Ethereum is here only from 2014, Bitcoin was managed to gain much more trust.

In popularity ETH can beat bitcoin but considering the volume it will be very hard for ethereum. And also the principle of bitcoin and ethereum differ. Bitcoin was invented to make a better alternative of physical money whereas ETH is platform for developers for building decentralized app or DApps.

I can see huge potential for Ethereum. The popularity of ETH is growing continuously but you can not compare it with Bitcoin as the purposes are different.

Right.I believe they have their own potentials to possess and they both grow as time goes by.Maybe by today bitcoin is still the leading cryptocurrency and became most popular by the people but things may change in the coming years.Ethereum is already gaining its own popularity and people are also starting to recognize its value.

I don't think Ethereum will outlast Bitcoin for Bitcoin is the baseline of all cryptocurrency. When bitcoin decrease, most of the altcoin is also affected and they are also decreasing including Ethereum. But if bitcoin will increase, like what happen last December 2017, only bitcoin hit that amount and not all altcoin including Ethereum does not increase the way bitcoin do. Maybe in some point, Ethereum will increase while bitcoin decreases but there is no effect in the value of bitcoin. Maybe soon, we don't know, Ethereum will surpass bitcoin and only future can determine that.

Currently, bitcoin is very dominant and it would be so in near future, but you can't tell what would happen in a year or two. Things may change, as some pundits are saying that Ethereum would get around 15k in future.

Yes I do not think ethereum will live longer than bitcoin, bitcoin is the parent of all altcoins so nothing exists in bitcoin instead of ethereum, it all depends on bitcoin.

Maybe in 20 years it will happen. But at the moment and in the near future it is impossible to imagine. Bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency in the world. This is the main cryptocurrency. Negative news about bitcoin is ruining the entire market. As for ethereum, I'm sure it's the most promising altcoin, which will not give its second place to anyone.

Yes i believe it but when? Eth have a low fee transaction and fast transaction also have big volume too. There's no reason eth can not to get past the bitcoin, it's all about a time. Sorry for my bad english and good luck for all eth holders!!

Yeah i agree . Any bitcoin cant replaced with Bitcoin. Eth has a more potential but , never reach BTC or cant compare with.

Whether is present time or even in future also bitcoin will be dominant coin none of the crypto currencies will be reach to the bitcoins level mate. You may see all the crypto in the sinking stage but recoverance is back in some week.
So try to buy the bitcoins and alts you can mate.

Altcoin is an interesting structure, I think it can be trusted and invested in it. It makes people happy and keeps themselves in the market.

I agree with you to some extent. But there is an interesting thought. The Ethereum never will overcome bitcoin, obviously, since bitcoin started early Ethereum and reset momentum. Therefore, Ethereum can take 1st place in two cases. The first is if bitcoin voluntarily closes, the second is if someone closes bitcoin. There's a snag. If someone manages to close bitcoin, it will not be difficult to close any other project.

I don't think like that. Undoubtedly, Ethereum is a great currency with huge potential, community support and real-life use case, but it can't go over Bitcoin. Bitcoin is they only coin that everyone accepts in terms of exchanging like fiat or altcoin. Most fiat supported exchanges only support Bitcoin to fiat, not ETH. So, bitcoin still ahead.

I agree with you OP, Bitcoin will always be number one for me. The day it stops becoming that I will have to look inward and ask if I want to be apart of the markets. I hope this never happens though of course.

Well, i can not say that for now but it could happen in the future because ethereum is the second well known coin throughout the whole world so it's possible that etherum can outlast BTC. Depending on time.

I personally feel that Ethereum will soon cover bitcoins' craze in the market in the coming years as it has some great potential comparing to bitcoin. I agree with the fact that the bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency introduced in the crypto market with good security norms and features. But i still remember that Ethereum is the major blockchain payment gateway in managing the other cryptocurrency and it has good potential and long way to go. I agree that Ethereum still has to improve a lot in their blockchain and security features and once we see the improvement and growth we will definitely see Ethereum beating the bitcoin.

IMO ethereum got itself into a very risky and potentially devastating position. We are all used to discuss how people invest into altcoins or how they trade, but in case of the old cryptos miners are crucial. Now, ethereum has already overcome one hard fork on its way to become not mineable and get generated by the proof of stake algorithm instead of proof of work. Mining eth became more difficult for miners, so that they slowly abandon doing it. As the market suddenly went down, miners can do their job now only hoping for great future which doesn't look real enough. Perhaps if they practically stop mining that would be okay, but it still sounds bad to me.

A very large number of bitcoins lie in the hands of a small number of people. This is a big problem for bitcoin. I'm afraid that because of this bitkoin has a very vague future.

Bitcoin is the cryptocurrency with huge volume and has been leading the market cap since inception of cryptocurrency. I don't think any coin can overcome it.

The Ethereum value have been pumping and dumping too and if you look closely it is swaying at how the bitcoin move. It is like it doesnt have it's own life (i dont know how to put it). It just relies on the bitcoin price.

Who knows what's really going to happen. I do not see it happening soon but there is a possibility though that Ethereum will be the next cryptocurrecny king.

It is not in terms of how big it gets, its in terms of practicality, you see bitcoin is going up more and more and that makes it a valuable thing that people won't think about spending as a regular currency for everyday usage, ethereum on the other hand is at a perfect price point and it has so much potential and has opened a lot of development windows for implementing the blockchain technology in many different fields, where bitcoin is not, bitcoin will stay the same until the end you can't change anything about it, and that is why i think that Ethereum will outlive Bitcoin.

Ethereum is unique while bitcoin has also it's own feature. We don't have to think about replacing the throne of bitcoin.
There were too many threads out there that wants to discuss this thing but just to answer this, bitcoin won't get down by any altcoin or even Ethereum.

The etherium has a huge potential for growth. Now a lot of platforms and services build their business on the basis of etherium tokens. Accordingly, the growth in the capitalization of these projects will lead to an increase in the capitalization of the etherium.

BTC is the most trusted coin across the globe and when you enter into cyprot market the first thing that come to your mind is BTC.BTC community is strongest than any other coin.Right now ETH can not overthrow BTC but in future if ETH emerge with something innovative having superiority over BTC then certainly it would outclass BTC.Nothing is permanent in this world,one has to replace to lead one.

I too believe Ethereum might be the best candidate to outlast Bitcoins in the future. But
Bitcoins is massive and very strong, the startling volatility it has might have people doubt
about it but it's just the way it is. Ethereum is widely utilized and integrated nowadays,
I can envision ETH expanding more in the next year and the years after. Both coins are
tremendously popular and successful in my opinion, they dominate different depths and
corners of the market, they are different. I think both might still coexist in the future.
 

Both are good coins and different projects, maximum ICOs depended by ETH and BTC, both are rulers in crypto market, BTC is the best compare with ETH because BTC is king in crypto market and crypto market price depended by BTC   

I don't know but seem like ETH is much better than BTC at the moment and maybe in the future ETH will be legalized in more country than BTC so it'll be the main reason make ETH can alive longer than BTC :). It's just my opinion but I hope that both BTC and ETH also can alive forever :)

There are a lot of reasons why ETH will not replace BTC in the near future but this situation is possible in the far future. I like ETH more than BTC because I consider that BTC is overvalued comparing with ETH but it is just my private opinion.
BTC has huge liquidity on market and it is very important for serious investors with big money and BTC is well-known among people who are not traders and who equals crypto technologies with only BTC.

I can ensure that ETH future will be much better than BTC because ETH is a better cryptocurrency than BTC although at the moment BTC is still the king of cryptocurrency world because of its high price :). ETH is helping to create a new era of cryptocurrency, ICO,...I think it'll survive much longer than BTC :)

I think ethereum can beat bitcoin in the future because of utility. Most altcoin build on ethereum blockchain. Bitcoin is just king now. Even privacy coins have more utility in my opinion

I believe that not for now as bitcoin will still be the leading crypto currency in the market. The possibility of replacing btc is there but chances are very slim for now.  Btc had been establisbed for quite sometime  and definitely it has more investors than eth mainly because it's price value can grow much higher than eth.

I totally disagree with you on this one. It looks like Ethereum is the most widely used cryptocurrency as an actual currency. Many promoters exclusively take payment in crypto.

I think Bitcoin will always be valuable as a store of value, but I think it has limitations as a method of payment because of high fees and long transaction times. For this reason, I think Etherium and some other cryptocurrencies could pass Bitcoin in market cap at some point. I think it will eventually happen as new coins with better features come along.

I'm not believe look at the price gap between bitcoin and ethereum in the coinmarketcap, even if th price of bitcoin today are in the dip price between bitcoin and ethereum are almost 60 to 70 percent price higest gap of bitcoin vs ethereum.

Agreed the probability of eth to surpass bitcoin is small, when we noticed the price of bitcoin and its value and its demand is going higher, year by year bitcoin soar and it is possible that this year the value of bitcoin as well as the alts will be higher than before, all we need to do is to wait and have patience about the market, Eth will rise also.

This is cryptocurrency we are talking about here, which you clearly have no idea about. Clearly. Supply wise, ethereum would take a lot of tome to be mined because of its bigger supply. But in terms of existence, I don't think they would die but something else that we don't know much about might happen, like crypto being replaced as a whole, or something ridiculous. This discussion is becoming boring now.

I believe ethereum can grow in the future, maybe even parallel with bitcoin. This is because the ethereum community gets bigger with the various projects that use it, so the more demand. However, to be parallel to bitcoin, ethereum takes a long time because bitcoin is also very strong.

If your basis are popularity and the number of investors getting in, ethereum is still no match for bitcoin.

By the way, this will just start an endless debate, to those that loves ethereum it will be ETH as their pick and to those who loves bitcoin like me, I'll pick bitcoin.

It can and I believe it will, once the maximum supply of bitcoin has been reached through mining, people will realize that it will be much harder to make money in bitcoin knce that happened. Ethereum will always be there to be the substitute, it is just a matter of time when will it happen.

There is nothing impossible in cryptocurrency. I have heard this thing a lot before. But bitcoin is still the only one who is on top and ethereum only following the step of bitcoin. But we cannot predict the future precisely. In this situation that bitcoin is still on it's stage of keeping down on it's value. Well, who really knows?

The ETH is already transferring token faster than bitcoin.
