If you have gold and silver in international vaults that is very safe. Digital currencies have this problem of hacking. Diversify your investment. Bitcoin anonymity is for investors and also for hackers/thieves.

Carrying and moving with 10 kilos is not easy.

Carrying and moving with 10 kilos is not easy.

Actually, one advantage of physical gold, (and other valuables such as diamonds), is that they can be easily ferried around if one has to flee in an emergency. All throughout history, and even in the twentieth century, there were innumerable instances when this was required for survival. Of course, with Cryptocurrency, this process should become even more simple. Only, we haven't had that kind of distress affecting the holders of Cryptocurrency yet, (fingers crossed), in this century; so there's no way to be sure.

I have even heard of few people getting hacked with 2FA activated because they hadn't securely stored their 2FA backup key. Use of dropbox or google drive to store such information and other login info/private key is unsecure.

2FA doesn't make login hard, you will get a state of relax mind with it but making proper backup and storing it offline is as important as activating 2FA.

Thank you for sharing this helpful tips to secure wallet and accounts. 2FA Authenticator is one of the best security to use in your account so that someone can't open your account easily. Hackers has a lot of tactics just to stool your wallet and identity but we can avoid it if we can do right on how to stay safe of our wallet and accounts.

Just early today Bancor a Decentralized Exchange got hacked 24,984 ETH (approx $12 million), $1 million worth of NPXS and $10 million worth of BNT.

This month we got so many consecutive hacking on exchange. We really need a good security on exchange.
This is the reason why I dont stuck my coins in exchange if I won't trade them.

Two factor authenticator security is the latest security system to avoid hack the system of inline exchange plaform,  in my opinion need to continue searching to upgrade the security of the exchange because later on the 2fa trace of the hackers how to open.

I agree, 2fA securiry is almost impossible for the hackers to access such account. Specially if the code is being generated randomly by the wallet provider or the exchange and sent to your email. Now, the target of the hacker isnt only your wallet private keys but your email as well. As you noticed, there are people who complained about unknown log-in attempts from different places, well that would be enough to know hackers have a tough time hacking an account with 2FA.

yeah, and one day they can simply decide that you are a scumbag and block your account and not give your money back ever and you should run after them for years with a lot of lawyers and spend a lot of money to get it back or fail trying.
or they may not even be holding enough gold for all their users and may run a scam service that fails one day and they can run away easily and you can say bye bye to your money ;D

This is a very difficult issue for large trading floors. They always look for ways to protect investors' accounts, but hackers are smarter than they are. Many of these attacks have cost me money to buy cold wallets. Ledger Nano S is a great product and it has a very high level of security. I encourage everyone to use it.

I always keep most of my coins in cold storage wallets like Ledger S Nano and just take out whenever I need it. Keeping a lot of money in exchanges is a big risk. As if dabbling in cryptocurrency is not risky enough. But you have to do what you have to do.

Obviously, one person can't! But when I wrote this, I remembered a panel discussion on CNBC I'd heard some time back, in which one of the panelists mentioned that when his grandmother was a five year old girl, their family needed to urgently escape a war zone, leaving all their possessions behind. They had gold bars fashioned into chain links, which they wrapped around their bodies and underneath their clothes. In their new place of refuge, they sold that gold for seed capital to start a new business.

Today, one can simply convert into Cryptocurrency and retrieve anyplace in the world. But, seriously, how many of those Syrian refugees used Bitcoin?! Most were just clothes on their backs, and maybe a few valuables that may well have been robbed from them on their escape journey.

The most important thing is to
- own your private keys (which you must back up)
- use 2 factor authentication but not the SMS one, Google Authenticator is safer
- use a hardware wallet (like Ledger, Trezor) or a hot wallet with multi-signature set up (like BTC.com wallet has 2-of-3 key)

When we are taking the advantage of the decentralized behaviour of cryptocurrencies, we must realise and understand that there is a freedom along with responsibilities and hence we should pay maximum attention towards this aspect. Crypto is all about self-responsibility and hence one is himself responsible for the consequences of his decisions. When it comes to the finance the best way to trust the principle that says "Trust no one!". As we all know that precaution is always better than cure.

When someone sent you an email make sure that the extension address / domain of that email is valid.

Its easy to caught if that's a fake one and if you haven't used any of their service and you received an email of asking you to fill up something, don't follow their instructions or download from their attachments too.

If is the problem. You need to check the URL before you login to your wallet or exchange account. All these things will be result the same if you does not know how to use it or if you entered into the phishing website instead of right one. Nothing else you need to do avoid hacking mate.

Honestly, get more suggestions from other websites that are purely crypto currency related. CCN isn't the best source and they are biased. The article sounds more like a scare tactic to repellent users from using bitcoin. Most of the hacks are not that serious and people can easily avoid those with common basic security knowledge. Only dumb people fall for those hacks.

Being too paranoid about such things can also be a factor to push yourself or trigger you to have too many transactions and may be a reason to lose some of your coins.
Transactions is also a scary thing to do nowadays. Addresses can be anonymous but it is quite true that it is sometimes hard to confirm if addresses are right every time you transfer. It is quite a burden too.
As an advise to this, Find the safest wallet you can get and avoid transferring too much and do not let let anyone know your most private wallet.

So the whole article point out towards one thing and that is "Phishing"! I guess this technique is oldest one and is going to stay for very mcc long. Easiest way to collect the private keys and passwords from the users.

I agree with this one because recently lot of MEW private keys and even keystone files were phished by this method. This was done with the help of E-mail which was from the MEW (unofficial) and then the link used to take us towards the Phished site. The page used to be look alike. We must take care of internet world, and I always safeguard myself by looking at the website address given. Must have that little S in it.  ;)

Use 02 Factor Authentication
Most Bitcoin online wallets offer the option of a 02-factor authentication process. This means that whenever you log in you are required to authenticate with an additional step other than your password. Most of the time this will be a confirmation text message sent to your phone. Even if you sometimes find this a bummer, this procedure reduces the risk of theft dramatically.

Yep. In general, 2FA can protect accounts from hacker attacks. Besides using 2FA, there are actually many ways to protect our accounts from hacker attacks. Like adding your phone number and (if any): Funds Password, Anti-Phishing Code, Security Question (AFAIK. This feature presented by KuCoin).
I am very sure that will make more difficult for hackers to hack our accounts.

all we can do is set up an two factor authenticator  and other security purpose things dont bother for a little hard to log in that is for your own safety.

Where and how we should store 2FA backup offline? in what form? On paper?
Or what you mean under backup, moving Google authenticator from 1 device to another?

Yes, you can write down the backup codes on paper, a note or a book, everything that you can access when you need to, and keep it somewhere safe.
My 2FA ever lost due to all of the data on my phone deleted, but I still can access all of the exchanges accounts with recovery code or just reset the code.
You can also change the device to another; All you’ve got to do is go to the two-step verification page and click the “Change phone” button. Then either scan the QR or barcode, or put in the secret key on the other gadget manually. That’s it.
read more here: https://www.protectimus.com/blog/google-authenticator-backup/
Nevertheless, the most secure way to store your coins is to keep it on a cold storage, which you can access anytime you want to, not store it on exchanges.

If you want to make more secure and safe your wallet just set up an two authenticator which will help you to notice if someone try to open your wallet. You can also add your number where will text if someone also try to open your wallet. Lastly, you must keep your password and private key in safe place so that no one can hack your wallet.

Indeed, we can't prevent them if they wanted to intrude to us. But the only important ways to prevent others break our fence of safety is to  make all your personal keys confidencial. Goodgle authenticator apps is one of the suggested security that will primarily help you. It allerts any suspicious activity, because your email will be notified everytime when there's an attempt. Nowadays 2fa was the most in demand options which could brought more secured access to everybody, with respect to online web wallet access. Hopefully myetherwallet will have it soon, as part of the development of their service.

Also never put you asset on the Exchange or market, because we don't know that they will scam us and we lost our asset forever. Also, keep your private key save and never put it in a cloud or something like that. When you wanna put it, don't forget to encrypt it with a password

Phishing is a major culprit, because people are simply too lazy to read. They receive a phishing email and quickly browse through it and then they click on URL links, without thinking twice. You should always hover your cursor over the link, to see what it is or you should just type it, to be safe.

A lot of these exploits can be prevented, if people take the time to scrutinize these emails and if they enable 2FA to their mobile devices. <not to email>

as long as we can secure our wallet, we don't have to worry about the hacker. maybe we can move our funds into offline wallet so we don't have to be afraid of the attacker. you can choose many wallets that you want so it will reduce their chance to hack our wallet. and the price for the wallet is not too expensive so you can buy one or two and send your balance to your wallet. we need to take attention from the hacker so we can be safe and never tells other people how much our balance.

If you have gold and silver in international vaults that is very safe. Digital currencies have this problem of hacking. Diversify your investment. Bitcoin anonymity is for investors and also for hackers/thieves.

Carrying and moving with 10 kilos is not easy.

yeah, and one day they can simply decide that you are a scumbag and block your account and not give your money back ever and you should run after them for years with a lot of lawyers and spend a lot of money to get it back or fail trying.
or they may not even be holding enough gold for all their users and may run a scam service that fails one day and they can run away easily and you can say bye bye to your money ;D
That’s bitcoin for now because there are still many anonymous whose identity is not yet known and become a chance for the hackers. So we must be careful to save our bitcoin/altcoin and make our wallet keys more private so it won’t be easy to be hacked by other anonymous.

Yes, being too paranoid might prove to be risky as well, but a little paranoia may save your money and will always keep you ready-to-act. I mean, kind of on standby rather than having insomnia caused by too much fear  ;)

10 Simple rules to stay safe:

1. Use a very strong password- not one that can be worked out by a hacker, such as partners name etc, a good way to create a strong password is to chose a favorite book, pick a page (the page number will be part of the password) chose a line on that page (again this will be part of the password), use the first and last words on the line and then second (first last second) and use these, add a special character- so for example:
29Johnaway!spirited32 will be a very strong password and as you have the book you could mark the page to help you remember it.

2. Always use a good email provider such as Tutanota or Proton Mail AND use a different password for your email and exchange site.
3. DO NOT open any email or attachments that are from unknown or unsolicited sources.
4. Keep your anti virus and anti malware up to date.
5. Keep your OS up to date and especially fully patched with any security updates.
6. Do not use the same password for all sites-use seperate ones for every login.
7. Encrypt your hard drive.
8. Use a hard wallet such as Tezor etc.
9. DO NOT leave large amounts on exchanges-put in, do trade then remove to hard wallet.
10. Use two factor authentication wherever possible.

When we take advantage of the decentralized behavior of electronic money, we must recognize and understand that there is freedom with responsibility and therefore we should pay utmost attention to this aspect. Crypto is all about self-responsibility and therefore one assumes responsibility for the consequences of its decisions.

Great points. Among the points that you listed, I feel that 8, 9 and 10 are the primary ways of securing your cryptocurrency related funds in a secure and efficient manner. I have primarily been using these 3 points in order to secure my funds successfully even though hackers tried hacking me before. Do not ever lazily leave your funds lying around here and there on some random exchange wallet since this provides an opportunity for hackers which is something that needs to be avoided.

I have even heard of few people getting hacked with 2FA activated because they hadn't securely stored their 2FA backup key. Use of dropbox or google drive to store such information and other login info/private key is unsecure.

2FA doesn't make login hard, you will get a state of relax mind with it but making proper backup and storing it offline is as important as activating 2FA.

oh yes, it really just occurred to me after I read your comment, thank you.
Indeed, we must store important documents off line to avoid thieves from the internet window

I guess its the same thing with money, t digital form of money its still money cause it solves almost all our moneytry issues. So u must keep it safe from hackers and other cyber thieves. That's why we have the 2fa authenticator or a backup wallet. Or even write on a paper..

I see some people stressing how unsafe they still feel with the article you shared, but for me, i appreciate your move.

At times, it is those basic sense of security that fails us. There's a common notion that the more advanced tools you use, such as a hardware wallet, equates to more invulnerability (which makes sense too). But forgetting the basics such as protecting our crypto asset related email address or being phished by a malicious website can actually wreck havoc in many ways.

Being reminded of the basic security steps is really what we need at times. Thanks.

I do agree. We must keep in mind the best practices for staying safe, which is especially important if we want to make sure people who trust you are safe, because if you have any security issues you jeopardize everybody else around you because if you get hacked, your friends are very likely to get hacked, too.
Thanks for caring and sharing!

There are times when we forget the most basic of all securities that's why there is a tendency of getting hacked. Even just a simple e-mail and password that has been use in several sites can wreck havoc because people are just lazy to change anything that's why they always use the same one which makes them more vulnerable to hackers. An article like this is a good reminder especially to us who are making our transactions online.

Thanks for the message, the article from the link provided was really beneficial, the world of crypto has experienced a lot  of bad vibes due to such dishonest activities of people hacking either exchanges or  individual  accounts. We should always take caution when doing the transactions because we don't know personally who is on the other end of the line that's why even if we are transacting with the same person for a while, we should always be cautious if he acts in any way not with the norms because he may not be the one at the other end and only a hacker.

Yeah good thing is that some exchanges are offering two way factor one could not get or transfer coins without the confirmation code being send to smartphones where it is being linked.

Bitcoin promises to give the safest and the most confidential transactions to its customers and it not only promises but provides safest transactions to its users and I guess this is the most important reason that why millions of people around the world invest into bitcoin without any tension because they know that they are investing their money at right place as bitcoin transactions does not involve any third party seizure and provides user anonymity and above all in order to be more safe my advice will be that never share your passwords and keys of your wallet to anyone.

A lot of measures can be implemented for one to stay safe but I recommend keeping a backup of your wallet and making sure never to disclose your account details to anybody regardless of how you are pursued.
There is also provided security for every account wallet that is applicable for the safety of the account. Your account need to be in safe place but more useful if going to diversify your investment rather than putting on one investment because that is very risky that might lose you one time. Good to have knowledge how to handle the account and make it safe from hacker and also finding good wallet to used.

If we buy bitcoin when the price is $ 20,000, of course the best option now is to save it and be patient waiting for the increase in bitcoin prices. The problem we face is how to make the bitcoin that we have will remain safe and avoid hackers. I see blockchain wallets are a good choice for storing bitcoin, because the security is quite good, which requires verification via email that we have, and the other option is the Nano Ledger, but of course we also need to be able to store the bitcoin wallet password properly so it is unknown by someone else. If we can do what I explain, then rest assured that the bitcoin we have will remain safe and avoid hackers.

That is not enough, there are many examples of people that choose a good wallet and they still got hacked anyway, if you want to keep your coins as safe as possible then you need to take additional steps, one of the easiest is to have a hardware wallet, I know that those wallets are not free and cost you money but if you have 10 times the value in cryptocurrencies that it will cost you to buy a hardware wallet then you need to buy it.

Those wallets are by far the best way to secure your coins, you also need to change your attitude towards paying fees, a lot of people let their coins in the exchange because they do not want to pay a few dollars to move their coins and when the exchange gets hacked they regret not moving their coins to their wallets.
