we need more ponzi.....

I fully appreciate Ponzi games aren’t for everyone. Having played a couple on here recently I quickly became frustrated with the lack of communication from the owners, and\or the manual process of making repayments.

The aim of Bitvestment is to;

• Be as transparent as possible - all our transactions are listed on our site, to confirm our 5 minute automatic payments
• Be as sophisticated as possible - all payments are fully automated every 5 minutes (assuming deposits are confirmed and funds are available in the master wallet
• Last as long as possible - by achieving the above two points, the hope is Bitvestment can be the longest serving BitCoin Ponzi to date

Adding to which, this project has improved my personal knowledge of PHP and Python massively!

Hopefully, BitVestment is around long enough to change a few doubters feelings, but I wont hold my breathe ;)

First few deposits coming in, and paid out. Script seems to be picking them up automatically just fine (as expected ;))

BlockChain's API is a little flaky at the minute, receiving intermittent "Unknown Error" responses when submitting payments. I'm looking at a more stable way of generating payment transactions, but will resort to processing payments manually until the API responds again if needbe.

Fixed, there was a deposit in the DB coming from the deposit address itself which was causing the repayment transaction to fail (you cant send bitcoins to yourself!)

Also, some lucky addresses have been double paid in the process of fixing this;

Question about the site. You say:
"Repayments are automated every 5 minutes, transactions are prioritised on a first come first serve basis. To reduce any backlog in payments, deposits which exceed our current wallet balance are skipped until sufficiant funds are available."

Does it mean that if I send a big transaction and there is not enough balance to cover, it will get skipped and later transactions processed first?

Congratz! Whilst I was fixing a bug in the script I manually processed payments which by chance was at the exact same time as cron processed the payments too!

Repayments are processed in date order (first come, first served), to prevent a massive backlog in payments, if there are insufficient funds in the wallet to repay a deposit during that "round", it is skipped.

Whilst that is a little disappointing for the depositor, it allows for other deposits to be repaid and in-turn, further reinvestment to eventually repay the larger deposit. As the script always tries to repay the oldest deposit first, as soon as sufficient funds are available it will be repaid.

The reasoning behind this is to try keep the game running as long as possible, keeping repayments regular and "the ball rolling" so to speak.

I hope that all makes sense? If it doesn’t, let me know and I'll try reword that statement on the site!

Sorry for the delay guys, BlockChain API is returning a completely different available balance to what the wallet actually has meaning the script tries to repay more than it can afford and the transaction fails.

I'm working on that now, not sure if its something I can fix at this end, but a payment round has just been ran!

Sorry about that, f1shy. For some reason your deposit never made it to the database, so the script didnt know to repay you. I have repaid this manually now and will check why this happened.

Payment rounds occur every 5 minutes and are based on a first come first served basis (oldest deposit is repaid first). If there are insufficient funds in the wallet to repay a deposit it is skipped until the funds are available - this is so everyone else’s payments aren’t held up too.

Once the wallet reaches more than 1.25BTC (confirmed) balance, you should get your repayment!

I think it would be a good idea to develop a table showing the "pending" payments and what order they are in so everyone knows what they can expect payment. I'll work on that ASAP.

There's a problem with repayments at the minute, BlockChain API is reporting a larger wallet balance than what is available meaning the script tries to send more bitcoins than it has!

I'm working on this now and will push payments through manually until its fixed.


Paid in = deposits sent to Bitvestment
Paid Out = payments sent to that address

Paid Out will be less than Paid In whilst there are still payments pending, which I am working on now :)

I'm not 100% sure why that's happening, I believe it could be caused by the repayment transactions sending BitCoins which are yet to confirm within our wallet.

I'm not sure how to prevent this, the BlockChain API documentation isn’t that good. I'll have a look.


That's how the logic is configured. It is also explained on the Bitvestment site and in this thread.

The reason for this being, to hopefully keep the game going for as long as possible. The more players invest, the sooner you will receive payment. You are nearing the top of the list now so as soon as we hit +1.25BTC you will get paid.

Perhaps it would be safer to wait with payout until all deposits have at least 1 confirmation?

Indeed, and the "available balance" presented to the repayment script only considers confirmed BitCoins, however when the transaction is submitted to BlockChain to process, I'm not sure how to dictate "only use confirmed coins for this transaction". This doesn’t seem to be documented in their API... Unless I'm missing something!

Betek, if you send such large amount you will have to wait a bit longer. This has been the case in every ponzi that there has been until now. If you start spamming this topic you will only chase potential new players away and then it will take even longer... Just be patient :)

Automatic payout and transparence won't help a ponzi last longer.

Sorry, this is exactly how Ponzi games come to an abrupt end and many people lose out. Other players wont deposit if there is a huge queue waiting for just your payout.

The best way is for everyone to keep depositing (we currently average a balance of 0.45) and eventually the balance will exceed 1.25 when you will be first in line for your payout.


Of course it will. Ponzi is a gamble, plain and simple. However if there is a level of trust with the owner, it means more players are likely to deposit, meaning the game will last longer.

I'm looking into this, but I'm unsure as to how I specify via the BlockChain API to only send confirmed coins. There doesnt seem to be that option in their documentation which is strange.

This has snowballed now causing payouts to stop as there are a limited number of "confirmed" coins left in the wallet.

Note: I've also increased the TX fee from "normal" to "generous" for future TXs

Absolutely, this was never intentional, as mentioned we hoped to be the longest serving ponzi game, and hopefully we still can. Where possible, I am manually paying out the oldest deposits with the remaining wallet balance, and as soon as the older transactions start to clear, hopefully we will have a cause to the above.

Also there was a bit of delay a while back took about 40 minutes for payment maybe i was sending to much wasn't sure.

The delay was probably caused by the above problems. Once the older transactions confirm, it should have a knock on affect to subsequent deposits which are still waiting to be confirmed too and we'll be able to pay out.

It's just a waiting game, but please rest assured that the payout script is still running every 5 minutes, and will process payments as soon as these older funds have confirmed.

There's also the fact that payback delays will increase in time. There's no way around this.
The number of new deposits required to pay out previous deposits increases exponentially in time.
The deposit right after your deposit will NOT be sufficient to pay you out. This is only the case for the first few deposits.

1) Transaction fee too low, taking an age to confirm
2) Recipients have reinvested their (unconfirmed) share of the above transaction
3) Future payouts have used the above unconfirmed coins in future transactions
...
Rinse and repeat.

I have increased the TX fee option to "generous" which will hopefully stop this in the future and altered the payment logic somewhat to try only use confirmed coins in future payouts.

Nothing is lost, that is the nature of a Ponzi game. As soon as the outstanding transactions are confirmed, other players will be repayed and hopefully, with the improvements I have just made to the code, they will reinvest too. Of course, as ever with a Ponzi game, you're return is entirely dependant on other investors.

Once I've finished working on this, I will generate a new table on the site showing pending repayments and their current priority.

Areast, I am guessing that you receive a callback from Blockchain.info when you receive a payment, why not set your script to accept a payment when it has at least 1 confirmation?

Improvements have been put in place following this, transaction fees have always been paid, although I'm not 100% how they are calculated. I assumed it would be through the settings in the BlockChain account, however it appears whether you specify "frugal", "normal", or "generous", it still only pays 0.0001. As such I have now changed the script to specify a higher fee (0.001) to hopefully make future payments quicker.

Hold on in there, as soon as these older transactions have cleared we should be good to go again.

Why not use the "&fee" variable on the sendmany url?

It's confirmed... At least mine is, paying the default TX Fee. Did you use a blockchain.info wallet? If so, you may have spent those Satoshis that were being spammed. I have 7 that I can't spend. If you used your entire wallet, then, yeah, there will be confirmation issues.

I've been busy making improvements to the code, so you may have seen some odd behaviour on the site over the past couple of hours whilst I've been doing this!

The changes basically include;

• Strictly ensuring all deposits have been confirmed before including them in any payouts
• Running repayment rounds enforcing the wallet's confirmed balance only
• Increasing transaction fees so future payments will be much quicker

Current problems;

• BlockChain HTTP Callback Notification isn’t sending requests to the server (so deposits are having to be manually confirmed in the DB currently). I'm looking at this now.
• Earlier transactions still unconfirmed, causing a snowball affect on more recent deposits\payouts

I appreciate the past few hours have been pretty shitty, and hope the earliest unconfirmed transaction will soon be confirmed. Once this happens it should have a ripple effect on all other unconfirmed transactions freeing up everyones coin's.

As a thank you for sticking around, I'll be increasing the return to 150% for 48 hours once these problems are all resolved.

You are talking/complaining about confirmations. That has nothing to do with his website, but with the network itself.

These problematic transactions are now starting to confirm, starting with the oldest first, until they all catch up, this is something out of my control, however increasing the transaction fee may well have stopped this (this has now been fixed in the code).

I'm extremely sorry for the delay, its as embarrassing for me as it is annoying for you. Hopefully the transactions will catch up quickly, when I will increase the pay out as a way of apologising for these problems.

Fantastic News - the site is once again fully operational, now offering 150% payouts!!

The majority of the problems experienced have been caused by BlockChain's API not responding, or returning irregular results. As such I have made a start in migrating all scripts to RPC which seems far more accurate.

The site has been fully tested with deposits are being updated correctly in the database once confirmed and paid out within 5 minutes.

There does seem to be a slow down on blockchain, so transactions may not confirm as quickly as we would like, but TX fees have been increased to hopefully help with that.

I'm hitting the sack now, as promised the payouts have been increased to 150% for the next 48 hours - I'm going to leave it running overnight, and fingers crossed we have some big winners in the morning ;)

As ever, post any problems in this thread and I'll pick them up in the morning!

Once again, BlockChain API has failed me. The code which imports new TXs into the database is reporting 503 errors (this happens when BlockChain is being attacked and invoke CloudFlare);

HTTPError: HTTP 503: Service Unavailable

I'll manually add those TXs now.

I'm glad to see the majority has worked fine for the last 7-8 hours. Today, I'll be working on moving away from BlockChain API completely!

We reached our peak around 10:30 GMT yesterday, so a couple of hours from now, hopefully when more players come online they will reinvest again.

I've put a lot of time into the site, and learned a hell of a lot along the way :D I'm hoping we can keep this going for a little longer yet :)

A service fee is taken to cover hosting costs ~$20 a month (AWS is quite expensive ;)), but as you can see from the wallets transaction history, nothing has been withdrawn for this yet and I will continue to pay for the hosting personally until the game takes off again. Due to the logic behind the repayments, the wallet will never be left with large sums of coins in it. The script systematically goes through each deposit, in deposit date\time order, and repays what it can, meaning every possible deposit will be repaid leaving the wallet with a few satoshi at best :) This was an intentional design requirement to be as transparent as possible with you guys.

My main reasoning for building BitVestment was my frustration of other Ponzi games, waiting for the owner to pay out, or at worse the owner to run away with everyones coin's. Also, being a "techie", just learning a new coding language is a huge benefit to me professionally.

It's seems to be a bad time to be using their services, considering the amount of problems most exchanges are having.

Once my local instance of bitcoind has imported the blockchain, it should be much more stable. No more relying on 3rd party APIs, and only me to blame if it goes wrong then :D

This is caused by the BlockChain API not responding to requests meaning the script doesnt know when the new deposits are confirmed. Once the bitcoind instance is uptodate this will be fixed, meanwhile I will confirm them manually :)

I feel that would be counter-intuitive at this stage. There have been a lot of problems so far and it will take some time to rebuild that trust. Increasing the minimum deposit will only hamper that.


Perhaps the downside of being so transparent. The sooner new deposits come in, the sooner these guys get repaid ;)

Probably something went astray whilst I was working on the importer. I'll track it down now.


The wallet balance was 1.115 BTC, as agreed last night your deposit was reduced to 0.8BTC to be paid out quicker. So 0.8 x 1.5 = 1.2BTC, there wasnt enough funds in the wallet to make the repayment so it was skipped. This has been explained quite a few times now. :)

Deposits are slow at the minute so you wont see many updates until we see more investment.

Payouts are made in date order (oldest first), where the wallet doesn’t have enough coins to make the repayment that deposit is skipped, and it moves onto the next "oldest" deposit until it finds a deposit which it has the funds to repay. The pending page shows the priority of "skipped" payments in the next payout round.

For instance, at the top of the list is;
18YjZiXes86Zc6vzE2GroDpxYv3xmQDZ7   0.80000000

So once the wallet balance reaches 1.2BTC (0.8 x 1.5), that deposit will be paid out before any others, and with the remaining balance the system checks through the other pending payments (in date order) looking for other transactions which it can afford to repay.

I HATE people like you who invest that amount.. invest just "small amounts" to prevent a blockade in the Ponzi. I was very attracted to this scheme due to the 5 minute payouts, however, I did not invest, and would not have without multiple confirmations from satisfied people!

While the site was active, I saw somebody send BTC1 and was paid BTC1.2 in return, so that lead me to believe this may in fact be legitimate..

But again, now that the site seems to be down and people are complaining..
