Here is the summary information about the powercoin:

• 61.3 reward in each mined block
• 4 times special hourly reward (mining for over a hour)

• reduced every 2.5 years
• zero premine - the developer was only started CPU mining today on the day when it's released

To start a new node, you will need to create a powercoin.conf, and setup the value of rpcuser and rpcpassword. The best way to assign a rpcpassword is to run powercoind from a command prompt (terminal), and it will generate a random rpcpassword for you when first run it, you can then copy that to powercoin.conf. An example simplest powercoin.conf should look like this:

    rpcuser=bitcoinrpc
    rpcpassword=12guwA4eu2aKENgFMaeVzpofdOUPpwqWCRzbaUh5FiG873

As a developer, I was starting CPU mining almost the same time as others on the day it was released, and each mined block is rewarded 61.3, plus a special hourly/daily reward.

Coin is scrypt, have just mined my first coins. Got 61 coins from the block.
Not sure how block rewards work on this coin, though.

There was a 200 block history when I jumped on.
Block reward appears to be 61.30
It's scrypt.
And it has something called stake in the client, which I know is something that some cryptos feature only in passing.

That's all I got.

I got it perfectly fine. Click on the main link https://github.com/powercoin-pow/powercoin-binary , then go to the right hand side of the page and hit "save zip" or "clone in desktop".
When I did that I managed to successfully get the binary out of the zip.

It seems to be standard for coin releases.
Also, should I have a node in my powercoin.conf? I don't know any to add.

I'll include the powercoind for someone who is willing to setup a node! To start a node instead running powercoin-qt, the simplest way is to configure 'rpcuser' and 'rpcpassword' in powercoin.conf, and that's it for running powercoind.

I'll include the powercoind executable in GitHub and update the main post later.

Powercoin,Formal mining?

Finally got my first confirmed block ;)
I'm about to purchase a vps, and am looking into setting up a node.
All I have to do is run powercoind with an rpcuser and rpcpassword, then provide the ip address of the VPS, right?

Just got a vps, will be running a node soon.
Possibly also a p2pool! Let's get things really launching  ;D

i cant get cgminer to work for this, so how would we p2pool.  thanks

Once I get around to setting it up,  it would be as simple as connecting with your username as your payment address and any password (It wouldn't matter)
This would be my first time setting up a p2pool, so it might go wrong. If anyone else would like to set up a powercoin pool, please do!

yes i understand how to use a p2pool, what i am saying is if gpu miners dont work for the wallet then how will they work for the daemon.

Sorry I misunderstood you j, gpu miners work fine for this coin. I have been gpu mining since launch and have accrued almost 1000 POW.
Just let it run for a while! Make sure you have properly configured your client to accept solo mining.

yes, if you could show yoru conf and cgminer file, that would be awesome, i have been running for  hours and have not gotten one block yet,  i have setup 100 of coins for mining, but this one i  am havinga problem with cgminer, thanks

Here is my powercoin.conf:

For cgminer I connect using these settings:
cgminer.exe -o (Whatever IP You use) --scrypt -u user -p pass -I 13 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 8192

I've mined out tons of POW this way.

I will be getting a node and a P2Pool setup late tonight or tomorrow! Look forward to it.

What are the advantages of this coin over Teslacoin?

Was hard to find info on teslacoins, but from what I can see it was premined.
Powercoin isn't, if you're worried about greedy developers.

I can't compare the two coins without information on Teslacoins payouts and such.

Overall, I like powercoin though. Nice silent launch, low difficulty: Then it picks up speed.

Hasn't seemed to gone down at all.

what's up with finding blocks and not being credited for them? miner shows I've found a block + the wallet quickly shows a recent transaction, but then the block disappears before the block gets confirmed. Wallet and miner shows nearly 20 blocks found now, and I've only been given ~245 POW to show for it.

100% Agree with this. While I'm sure none of the users know exactly what is going on, I can say you have a coin named powercoin when there was already another coin named powercoin. To me that at least gives some inkling that the same thing may have happened here. Especially since the thread you "announced" in has zero information in it at all. Who is to say that these devs weren't working on a coin named the same and never saw your announcement. Also you say the source was stolen, but haven't offered any real evidence. I would be more than happy to close my pool as requested if i'm presented with real evidence. Also you asked me where I received the source and it's pretty clear as day its in the OP. So before I take down a pool that people are mining on I would like some evidence that this source was either indeed stolen or false.

well it just so happens that the exact same wallet logos colour coin amounts rewards block halving is all the same and lastnight when i got mac wallet back from the dev i loaded it to see nodes up  when they should of all been down , then today one of the miners sent me alink to the pool and this page , we was in the process of already making the changes so all the blocks become null and void
then when i seen this and realised the extent of the scammers cheek
right so can i ask why is the source not uploaded on main powercoin.co.uk page and is not on the offical pool powercoin-pool.co.uk , well ,

the source was leaked though QT vulnerabilities from what I understand, the OP wanted to pre-mine but knew the original POW would recompile and relaunch with modifications so to work around that they decided it would be a good idea to launch it themselves.... asswipes

I wouldn't call it supporting. We would rather just avoid the confusion of this whole ordeal when its not 100% clear whats going on.

I'm not 100% sure about what's going on. But I joint the mining. And I believe that the OP did violate the copyright of the name 'Powercoin' and the logo, and I believe that the logo is belonging to the owner/administrator of the website WWW.POWERCOIN.CO.UK

This is so wrong to take the name and logo without the permission of the original author (WWW.POWERCOIN.CO.UK). We're not supporting such behavior, never! The member 'powercoin.pow' should be blamed!

But the source code should be derived from Teslacoin (https://github.com/the-power-coin/teslacoin) for sure. The network is alive publicly and the blockchain is looking well. So I'm planning to start a new project to support this, it will be derived from the official Teslacoin source code. But the uses of the name 'Powercoin' and the logo MUST be avoided!

I also stopped the mining at the moment! This is so wrong to do mining with a copyrighted wallet, I'm feeling not safe, because I'm worrying that some day the copyright of 'Powercoin' would charge me coins for it. This is not good.

forget it guys "the.power.coin" stole the source from "powercoin-POW" before the full release and premined loads of it,  and he is still desperately trying to get the stolen source up and running again (github / sourceforge won't let him upload to /powercoin becasue they know hes a scammer) and hes trying all this before the original devs (powercoin-POW) make the needed changes to firsty bring the coin more up 2 date and secondly safely relaunch the coin.
