Hi Friends, actually one of my BTC address from Zebpay account having almost 0.01550 BTC has been hacked and the amount has been stolen just few days ago. The amount was not quite big for me, but i really fear about the security of holding the BTC in exchanges and now even in wallets.

I Just want to know is there any ways i can get back my BTC back to my account and also is there any website or authority who can help me out in getting back my stolen BTC, let me know about it. Also let me know what safety measurement should i take while holding my BTC in Exchanges. Thanks in advance.

You don't own Bitcoin on exchange addresses. Its the account you own. So to clarify: did funds disappear from your exchange account?

If you lose funds from your Bitcoin address, nobody can help you. Be your own bank works both ways.

Hi, there is nothing anyone can do about this....what it means is that, you have lost your funds forever.
Blockchain decentralized  and anonymous structure makes it hard if not impossible for you to trace the wallets in which your lost funds was transfered to and the offline address of the culprit.

Yes, the funds has been disappear from the exchange or you can say it has been transferred to another BTC address and the whole transaction was not done from my side and i think this all state that my account has been hacked in that particular exchange right.  Is there any website where can i complain or who can help in getting back my BTC.

your question is wrong.
your bitcoin was not stolen and your address/wallet was not hacked, instead your account was hacked and you lost IOUs that this particular exchange had given you instead of your bitcoins.

and in case that your exchange account is hacked it depends on whose fault was it. if it was your fault (like having weak password, having malware,...) then there is nothing anybody can or will do for you. but if it was the exchange fault (like having weak security, leaking your information, having their site/database hacked,...) then the exchange should compensate your losses. whether they will do it or not depends on the exchange and their honesty...

If you kept your Bitcoins in the exchange and they were hacked they should report it to the police. Hackers attack is a criminal offence and police should investigate that. What exchange could do in such case is to cover the damage for their clients, but let's be honest, this is not very likely.
If your individual wallet was hacked you can also report that to the police because it's similar like your wallet waa stolen somwhere in the street but don't expect too much, having in mind relatively small damage that is done.

they have access to their own database and can help you out. for example they can give you the list of IP addresses that logged into your account. if you have the time of the withdrawal (which is another thing stored in their database) then you can find the hacker's IP address. although it is possible that they used VPN or TOR but that is at least one step closer to find out who did it.

If Bitcoin is legal in your country then you could ask the help of your government thru their Cyber agency or department because once Bitcoin investment is legal then the government will be oblige to help every Crypto users but sad to say that there is no assurance that your Bitcoin will be retrieve because as we all knows that Bitcoin transactions is decentralize in which tracing wallets is difficult except in the hackers is just a close friend or your relatives then there is glimpse chance that your money will be return to your account.

If you lose your money on the exchange address, you can contact the owner of that exchange, luckily you will have your money back. But if you lose money in your own wallet, be careful. This means that you have been hacked, check your security

I think you can't do anything, because until now there is no legal entity or institution that has received complaints about losing bitcoin. Your task now is only to evaluate yourself and learn better how to save bitcoin and secure it from hackers.

Sad part is that there's virtually no way to retrieve lost btcs both in your wallet and especially in an exchange. That's why you have to be really careful in holding your bitcoins or other alts because by nature, bitcoin's anonymity will not allow you to track who stole your coins.

 The main problem (still since its foundation) is that bitcoin is not completely legal; it is used by many people around the world but that begin said, it’s not legislated with one law. To give you an example: there’s no unified legislation about what is bitcoin; for instance, in the United States is treated as a commodity, in Germany as a private money and so on..
 The lack of legal basis and the impossible of reverse a transaction, makes bitcoin almost impossible to recover in case of a fraud.

If it centralised exchange you can only write their support to know reason for the theft and avoid consecutive ones , but if it is decentralized, there is nothing you can do about it

The point of a Bitcoin fraud is probably in that you can't recover the money. Unless you used a multisig wallet, in which case you can file a complaint to the arbitrator, that money is gone.

No one will accept your complaint. Previously, I also sent the wrong BTC to someone else's BTC address. But I can not know exactly who owns my BTC assets. So I was permanently not seeing my BTC back

Its a rule in the blockchain and decentralized spaces that transactions are irrevirsble . this is why the topic and issue of security is paramount. Never lose your wallet details, information to anyone. This can lead to hacking and funds will be lost which cant be traced or reversed. Take your wallet security as important as breathing is to you.

Sorry to say but i don't think there's anything that might be a help for you. Since as far as i know, once you got your wallet hacked and bitcoin stolen, there's almost no way to get it back. Unless the robber want to give it back to you, which is absolutely impossible.
If your wallet is already hacked, i suggest you make a new one, and make sure to have a stronger protection this time. Be more careful, and think what's the reason that might cause your wallet security is not safe, and try to avoid that to happen again.

Sorry to hear this. You should try to contact their support and if it was a fault from their end I think you might get some help from the exchange. But, if the coins were stolen because of your faults, I don't think you are every getting your coins back.

I feel very sorry for your experience. Hopefully the fault was from their side but you haven't mentioned the name of the exchange that's why I cannot really tell if they would help you with retrieving those coins or not but I think you should at least try. Otherwise, I see no hope for getting those coins back.

This a very sad experienced in this business , if your bitcoin have been stolen , we can not complain anymore , it will be a waste ,because no one has regulated this kind of event, the only thing we can do not to commit again this mistakes is be cautious and safety always with our wallet and transactions.

There is no way to retrieve the btc back if your btc has been sent, except you know the private key of the recipient address of your btc.
Seems like your wallet address private key has been exposed. You must not use that address again, otherwise your btc will be stolen again by them.

Since bitcoin is decentralized digital currency, it has hard to complain with your stolen bitcoin. Government has no control to it their is no third party involve. So if your bitcoin has stolen that is a very big problem on how and where to complain. I have a friend experienced that kind of situation and there is no way to recover the stolen bitcoin. Well it actually depends, Sometimes it is easier to trace thieves but if thieves are smart enough and makes change in the ownership then it actually becomes quite difficult to trace the bitcoin address.

Just like what other said if you bitcoin been stolen I think there is no way to get it again because that is your fault and the only way you can do is move on and start over again.

I don't think that can happen because I have been with Zebpay for a longer time now and their customer is really good, albeit damn slow but they do get the issues solved. If the amount of BTC is just vanished from your account then you can just make a complaint to zebpay by calling on their contact number. If you see that the BTC is transferred to somebody else's address then you can trace it to figure out if it is known to you or not. If somebody has gained access to your account and then transferred the BTC then it's probably your fault because zebpay's security is good enough as they provide 2 layers of protection before making a transaction.

That's a really sad news. I don't think that there is any way of getting your Bitcoins back. Once you have lost them in the exchange, you have lost them forever. You need to be more careful from next time.

You should report your case to police but I think if your country doesn't allow Bitcoin to be traded, you will encounter a problem. Actually, you yourself are the one who has highest responsibility for your Bitcoin, not anyone else since Bitcoin is anonymous structure making it hard to trace. Sadly crypto currency is almost untraceable that's the one of it's awesome features but in the same time it can be a liability because once bitcoin or crypto currency is stolen it's really hard to get it back.

You should have mentioned how exactly it was stolen. Individual wallets on an exchange is not randomly stolen like that, so I'm assuming you were a victim of a phishing scam.

i think what you mean is someone have stolen your account from a particular exchange and not a stolen address.
but regardless it will still be very hard to retrieve it even if you will contact the administrator of that exchange.

In my friend's case, there's a guy that always transfers his coins to his own wallet everytime money enters that wallet but you just can't trace him even when you're seeing his wallet address constantly. I don't think there's any way to regain a stolen coin neither is there a body that can fight these people. I guess that's a loophole in the system.

You're probably just out of luck. I mean, you have a little chance of getting some help by Zebpay, since you're on an exchange. But, for the most part, it's your fault that you didn't take more measure to secure your account. It's important to secure your computer too because there are many ways for hackers to access your computer and track what you're doing. The whole idea of Bitcoin is that it's decentralize. There's not really anybody to complain to.

There is nothing you can do about it. This is perhaps the main disadvantage of the decentralized nature of Bitcoin. Bitcoin being decentralized is not controlled or backed by any authority or agency. So no one is responsible for any unusual or illegal activity that takes place in the cryptocurrency market. First i want to say sorry to your accident like getting hack but personally i know that there is no way to get your btc back if its hacked.
You can not complain to anybody include the support if the problem is hacking. They will say that you are not care to store your all detail about the password and other. So next maybe you can learn from experience.

I think this is a risk that must be considered when you enter the market, bitcoin is a stand-alone product without government authority so we cannot protest to the bitcoin when something bad happens, you are responsible for the security of your bitcoin.

Of course there's something you can do. It's simple, be more careful next time. Bitcoin provide us high security system but it works only if you are careful. Don't use simple passwords (or same passwords on different sites), don't click link you don't where it comes from, use an antivirus, don't keep you funds in exchanges that is can be hacked easily.

You will not be able to get bitcoin. You should be more careful in the future in storing keywords and use a trusted wallet. Do not compile funds for too long in exchange if you do not trade, just pull your funds to the wallet.

If you can not see it on the wallet anymore, you can not bring it back. I mean the money has been subtracted from your wallet. According to that you should keep your crypto offline wallet. Because the crypto which is in exchange isn't your, they can freeze your money when they want.

Unfortunately, there is no way for you to retrieve the Bitcoin. What exactly happened that cause your wallet to be hacked? Was it due to your own negligent or? Every bitcoin is irreversible especially in exchange that is why we have to be careful on every action we have to take because that will be a waste. You cannot get back what you lost. There is no way to recover it so I am being careful on every address where I am going to send my transactions.

If it happened inside the exchange then you can complain to the management and supports. It's probably their fault if something wrong happened to one of their customers account.

This is not entirely true, because OP's bitcoins was stored on a centralized exchange and they have some remedial actions that can be taken if someone lose a lot of coins. <Some exchanges have insurance against this kind of thing>

We always say, If you do not have full control over your private key, then those coins are not your property. In this instance the exchange have full control over the private key and once it was withdrawn to another address, then it is gone.  ::)

If we keep our bitcoin on an exchange then we can complain there, but it for sure will depend on the case we've got. If the issue is caused by the lack of the security from the exchange then you may get your bitcoin back. Keeping our bitcoin on exchange for sure is a bit riskier than keeping it in our own wallet.

No one can help if you your bitcoin got hacked as you cannot know who the person behind the hacked wallet address. Leaving bitcoins in exchange is the worst decision, because if exchange get hacked all your funds can get hacked and exchange will do nothing. That is why it is always recommended to store your bitcoins in desktop wallet which is more safe.

There is no way to complain about the theft happen in the crypro industry because it is distributed ledger and there is no authority like we have in banks for these kind of acts in real life.

There's no place or office you will report your stolen funds. This is one of the reasons why it is advisable a user moves funds to their respective wallet portfolio after any transaction to avoid unnecessary hitch with might come from the exchange or maybe due to some phishing site you might have visited or maybe your password is weak enough for hackers to penetrate.

Since your coins were lost when they were in the possession of an exchange then you need to complain to them and try to clarify how this happened, if this was a mistake on their part then they should give you your money back but I will not be very hopeful of that happening since some exchanges have a terrible reputation when it comes to dealing with issues like that, however if you were the one at fault then you are never going to see your money again.

Does your exchange account has been hacked ? If you used exchange account, you should protect your account from any kind of phishing site.
Maybe you visited the phishing site and input your login and password there and then your account has been compromised.
I think you can reach the exchange support, if the hacker's withdrawal still pending, maybe you can get your btc back.

I think your account has been hacked and the hacker just transferred the bitcoin to his address, but how did you hacked so easily? I guess you have visited a phishing website and click some links that hacker take advantage and get your details on your account. I don't know how you could recover your bitcoins but I'm sure that you can take extra care to prevent what has happened from not repeating itself. That is not always true, if your account in an exchange is hacked and you lose your money and it is your responsibility for not securing your account in the way that you should do it then it is true that you are responsible and the exchange doesn't have to give you your money back, but if the reason of why you lost your money is because the exchange lacked enough security and they were the ones responsible for losing those coins then they should give you your money back.

But as we know exchanges are very powerful entities and they are not going to give up money that easily so even if the second scenario was the one that was correct it will still be very difficult to get your money back because the exchange will be reluctant to pay you.

Its true, we handling the security on our wallet. Its our own responsibility and we can not recover our coin if hacked by hackers. Thats why we should store our coin in our wallet and not share the private key to anybody because there is no way to recover our coin if stolen by hacker

Im not familiar with zebpay ,if it has no passphrase then its not in your total control ,its just an online wallet but if does have private key then you might have been hacked through phishing or someone very close to you got your key

Theres no need to create a new account .  what you must do is enable the 2fa and otp or any other extra security add ons and make sure to bookmark only the official url of your wallet if you are using an online one  .  last tip , always double check on what you are copying and pasting to ensure that it is the correct wallet addresses .

If that's an exchange wallet you can try to contact their support. Maybe they can help by telling what happened, but I don't think they can give back your coins. Always remember that hot wallets or online wallets are not safe. Better invest in a hard wallet. I think they are cheaper nowadays. Old models still work quite well.

I'm afraid that no one could help you out. In a certain thing that your account have been hack by other person and take control on it,  it surely your money will loss forever.
