For a few months I have been writing a book aimed at introducing beginners to cryptocurrency.  Since March 2014, I have devoted much of my time towards researching a total of 40 coins (including Bitcoin).  This book will also have other pages which define cryptocurrency terminlogy in a non-technical manner.  Besides these, factual tables, statistics and more will be included.  At the moment (20/11/2014) I have completed 39 coin sections with the following still incomplete:

Maybe you could make a text list of each of your altcoin addresses (which are pictured) so they can be easily copied and pasted. I liked the page and will be keeping track of your book's progress. Good luck with your project.  :)

Cool idea, but I don't think someone should be required to make a donation to vote for a certain coin.  Why not just open a free poll?

Let me know if you guys who know your stuff agree with me but the only altcoins listed I've seen which have actually tried to be different are: Anoncoin, Primecoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and maybe Worldcoin

The rest are coins which are either direct copy and paste jobs of Litecoin or they are aggressive pre-mines or centralised systems, I do think there are possible a couple of extra ones out there that have the potential to change their code though with the devs behind them.

No, you should definitely not mention these as most are copy coins.

Take Zetacoin too, It's inflationary form is rare in this market.
By now only Quark and Zetacoin are inflationary in the Top30 i think.

Quark isn't "undervalued".... In fact, no crypto currency can be "undervalued"... This isn't stocks and shares. They aren't attached to companies that have tangible / non-tangible assets.

Literally the ONLY determining value in any crypto coin is the market itself.. Its current value is a reflection of how the market feels about the coin.

If you were to ask me to invest in Quark, I'll ask you why? ...You'd then probably disgorge some over-enthusiastic rant about "intrinsic functionality"... I'd then tell you that, at this stage, no body cares about the "intrinsic functionality" of ANY coin.. Like it or not, people wan't to put in X amount of dollars and in two weeks cash out a XXX% return. Simples

Quark is dead in the water if you ask me.

Don´t want to wave the Quark banner but you are contradicting yourself. On the one hand you say that cryptocurrencies can´t be undervalued on the other hand you call Quark a dead project - which is saying that it is overvalued/has 0 value. The whole cryptoscene is dominated by chit-chat and self-fulfilling prophecies and you are just another example like the guy who says that Quark is undervalued.

Beyond that it is not true that cryptocurrencies have no tangible assets. Cryptocurrencies do not exist in empty space, they have (or haven´t) infrastructure that supports their use. The value of Bitcoin e.g. is founded mostly on the network, of the exchanges that list it, the apps that were written for it, even this forum contributes to a sustainable value of Bitcoin. Same goes with every other Altcoin. If your coin is intended to pump and dump only, like Pandacoin, you have mostly anything but trade. But there are many coin - and Quark is one of them - where you can see people actually working for the coin and developing cool projects. This, of course, doesn´t mean that this will be reflected in the price shortterm, but it will long term.

Quark has about 0.5% inflation per year now.  Over the long term, it's  not as inflationary compared to many of the other coins.

Erm, so you're saying that this "infrastructure" is what's driving the price of Bitcoin?... LOL, if that was the case then the price of Bitcoin would be much lower than it is now... what with the ever present specter of a 51% attack hovering over this "infrastructure" you speak of.

The first major Boom in the price of Bitcoin was brought about largely as a result of the Bank run in Cyprus - there may have been other catalysts, but overall it was that Bank run that took us to 1.2K.

Since then, the market has been driven by speculation in it's most potent form. China makes a few redundant statements, the weak hands sell their coins = the price falls.... GOX wont release our coins? = the price falls.... Oh, Walmart is now accepting Bitcoin?? = to the moon!... Sadly, no one cares about the bitcoin "infrastructure"..

And Quark is the most pathetic thing I've seen thus far... Dead in the waters!

There are many pathetic things in the altcoin community, with coin hating being the most pathetic.

You obviously didnt get the point of my argument.  I didnt say that the price was driven by infrastructure,  I said that infrastructure is a tangible asset which ensures a sustainable value. This value can be at a much lower rate as the current price but it will save those coins with infrastructure from disappearing after pump & dumps because there reasons to hold. With Quark many people invested in community projects and they are more likely to stick with the community then it is the case with coins where people just invested in the coin itself - see Pandacoin.

I'm going to put my vote here for NXT.

 This is gonna annoy some people, but most altcoins have almost no interesting or novel features. We have got to a stage where the only real differences are the number of coins to be issued and whether u have a panda or a penguin as mascot. Miners mostly don't even care about what they mine, as long as the diff is low.

NXT is not based on any existing code, and is building an insanely innovative financial eco-system.
Think Mastercoin/Ethereum/Ripple killer.....well worthy of a couple of pages in your book.

Megacoin should be in the book no matter how many or how little votes. Most coins have implemented the Kimoto Gravity Well, which originates from Megacoin. You cannot write a book and not mention such a widely integrated code.

Anyway, I'll read your book as long as you don't include MAX in it.

Unless you put it in the "Greatest overpumped scam coins in the history of crypto" chapter.

Goldcoin (GLD) is the one to watch this year. Many of the altcoins have taken a beating, but this one has been excessively hammered. When the bitcoin/altcoin recovery comes, I think this is the currency that's going to rocket.

I would put my money on Particle Coin. Seems like GoldCoin doesn't have that much innovation behind it and really is just another alt coin. The only benefit that i see with Gold Coin is the fact that it wasn't premined.

We need alt coins WITH CHANGES, not clones and mimics of successful coins.

All of us (i think) in the cryptocurrency space want to spread the message about this new technology, medium of exchange.  I am putting alot of time into contributing time and resources into a project which I feel adds to this message.  Many people who are aware of cryptocurrency are not participating in it or hold any coins of any sort.  I feel strongly that my finished book will introduce new comers and sceptics of cryptocurrencies so as to give them enough confidence to get involved :D

Why you don`t send the form to the community's so they can fill them in for you ? It`s only 2 pages, and for the communities the most of the work is copy/paste !
After 1 month you haven`t done anything beside spreading around the zetacoin form on all the forums. Why didn't you give everybody a blanc form so they can fill it in for you.
I hope for you that you will succeed with your project but i have the feeling the book will only have 2 pages.

I am now starting to complete many sections.  IFC Infinitecoin and HBN Hobonickels are the standard now for all 50 coins.  It is likely that the format will improve now.  It did not before as I did not know what the content would be.  Any support towards this project is welcome.

OP, its funny that you list ybcoin (an exact clone of YAC, though they haven't been keeping up) or any other scrypt N coin instead of the original which is Yacoin.

Any serious reference work should certainly document the originator of Scrypt N and SHA3.

Asiccoin, CounterParty, Franko, Mincoin, Particle and USDe have all been removed from the book.  Too much inactivity and low interest have lead me to make this decision.  Sorry if anyone is disappointed.   

I think you shouldn't write about every Clonecoin, which will be forgotten at the end of this year. Innovative, that are here to stay, should be the topic. Projects like Ethereum or the CryptoNote technology. Especially latter is an extremely sophisticated and promising technology and with Monero one of the most active developed ones. It offers true anonymity through ring signatures and stealth addresses and has also an innovative algorithm which offers egaltarian proof of work. You shouldn't waste time on coins like Innfinitecoin, they will be forgotten in half a year and when remembered, then as another clone coin

It's so difficult to recoup your investment on things like this. Are you planning on distributing hard copy or electronically? I think you must distribute electronically, so why should I buy it when I know one of my friends will get it and just send me a copy? I think the question is more "what to promote" instead of "where to promote". Where you should promote is on banner adds on sites frequented by crypto enthusiasts. I'd help with a list, but I'm sure you're familiar with dozens. More important is what you're promoting.

It seems that you're creating a one time publication, and you'll sell it when it's done. You should sell it as a subscription, 1year paid in advance, where each month the subscriber gets maybe 4 new pages, and updates to previously published pages. Maybe the whole thing could be one pdf being the cover, intro, background, definitions, etc, then each coin would be a seperate pdf.

This will be an excellent piece of reference material, it will stay current, and will also have historical significance as many of the coins you document disappear. You should stress this.

Finally, I've known about this project for weeks at least, but I have yet to hear how I can order one. you should get an ordering mechanism in place right away.
