Title: How to avoid ICO scam.
Post by: Osaaah on August 10, 2018, 05:12:50 PM
Apparently, ICO investors continue to fall prey to innumerable ICO scam. The effect of this is very devastating on investors perception of crypto-project ICOs.
While it appears there is no apparent solution to address the current scam associated with ICO in the crypto space. I propose that we help each other in finding out the best ways to identify and separate genuine ICO from fake ones....

I think it is a very difficult thing to say whether a project is scam or not, what we can do is do 100% analysis of each project from all aspects and if we see some negative signs or red flags we should share them all over the internet so that the average investor can become more vigilant and in this way avoid getting scammed.

There is no 100% chance to avaid scams as you may know scammers are smarter day by day. But of course it is possible to minimize from falling to a scam project : doing a deep research about the project is one big way to minimize it. I hope there will be a real platfrom that will be able to help investors avoiding scam ICOs, a true platfrom, not just a cheap talks or cheap plans.

You can't really avoid those ICOs if they turned out to be a scam project. But there are things that makes them legit and you need to look for it from them before joining in.

I must confess, the crypto space has become so condensed that it is very difficulty to identify a legit ICO to invest in. However, the best you can do as an ICO investor is to take time to do your homework pretty well about the project you wish to invest in. Double check goal and vision of the project and its feasibility in the crypto space. Thereafter do a background check on the dev team and other companies they partner with. You might also want to avoid double check any personal message you receive from the project you wish to invest in... Most of these messages are scam and not actually from the dev team of the project you wish to invest in..

It takes tons of research. If your going to drop money on something where just about everyone loses money you need to be damn sure you have found a diamond in the rough.  This isn't 2016-2017 the game is way more dangerous now.  I have gotten caught a few times this year.

I believe that the most important thing to study in a project is a team and a product. If there is no product at the time of the ICO, the risks increase.

To avoid being exposed to ICO SCAM, the fastest way is to learn from people who are experts in ICO investment. or we can try it yourself by checking the web, team, WHITEPAPPER etc. but all that requires knowledge, so my advice is to find someone who is an expert and learn from him

It is a fact that scam ICOs are prevalent presently in the crypto world but I think until there is a high level of regulations concerning initiating any ICO,  scam will still be looming around. But also from every potential investor adequate research necessary not to fall prey of these scam ICOs.

To avoid scam , ensure you take the underlisted into consideration
1. Do not be so eager to invest into bonu/presale offer, no matter how attractive
2. Ensure you research adequately about the project, what they are out to offer, the solution they are out to solve, past project and experience fro the team member.

Identify fraudulent ICO projects possible on a white paper project and activity in social networks. I noticed that if you see little technical information in white paper and very low activity in the social networks of the project, then you need to better refrain from investing in such a project.

In order to avoid ICO scams, we must choose a trusted manager or an ICO platform that provides legit projects. In my case, I choose projects listed in Bountyhive. They only have a failure rate of 10% which for me is acceptable. Also, projects are required to be escrowed prior to listing in Bountyhive.

It can be said that it is very difficult to avoid ICO scams. Those so-called rating websites, from the media or foundations, all serve the interests in this unregulated world. So the best way to avoid it effectively is to have enough experience yourself.

The best way to avoid scams is to not invest in any ICO. Any ICO can be a scam. If you are interested in investing in ICOs but are afraid of fraud, then you need to have basic experience to be able to identify them. Check out the ICO reviews at reputable rating sites. Search dev team and investors are real or fake ...

The best way that I have found to avoid scam icos is to look at the team behind it. The projects that have team members that are very transparent with what they are doing and what they are working on are always the best ones to put your money into. Then there are the ones that have a really viable product that can be used by people, those are the good icos to put your money in.

For the moment, ICO's scams exist. There is no one-and-one way to avoid being cheated. As investors, they must take the time to do the relevant project goals and visions and their feasibility in the encryption space before investing. The development team and Other companies that they work with conduct background checks, and invest carefully to better avoid scams.

I think the best course of action will be knowing about the ICO. Research about the team behind the ICO, their previous experience or projects.Don't invest into something you don't know. Gaining knowledge is a must and if we are not convinced or in doubt with the ICO, better not to invest. Even crypto experts are being scammed by ICO so its all about luck now and who's willing to take the risk.

Beside that, you should choose the project of the reputable managers, it will help you avoid the fraudulent projects.

Better try to research first before investing in a certain ICO so that you will have prior knowledge on what is legit and how to deal when a certain problem comes. Try to consult some professionals because they have more experience regards in this kind of business. As of now there is a lot of people only wants to invest in a certain ICO without any research and that is their weakness.

It is difficult to determine a good ICO project or a scam, and so far there is no most effective way to identify it. To reduce the risk that must be done is to read the white paper in full, examine the development team from their experiences and their real activities on social media.

First of all, you should study the presence of a detailed Whitepaper, a real project team, a detailed road map, sane implemented ideas. If the project has a working prototype, or it is developed on the basis of the existing platform, it has a well-known and proven partners and advisors. If so, then you should already consider investing in it.

Maybe this is not very guarantee but maybe at some point it might help you at a minimum to reduce the possibility of being deceived by the ICO, the list below is my personal criteria of how I choose a project to invest using bitcoin or other cryptocurrency:
1. Check the team background (If the team does not provide info about each team member such as the name of the previous project,              background, there is a possibility they will run away with your money if they don't provide information about their teams.)
2. Read their whitepaper and see if it's really worth investing in, their concepts, etc.
(It's important to know what the project is about.)
3. Check social media accounts, if you consider them very interesting. (Join their telegram group to update.)
4. Check Project professionalism (How they handle users, control fraud, etc.)
5. Follow the Roadmap and other technical details and see if they meet it on time.
6. Look for special proof and validation.
7. Do your own research on the project such as a review of the project or you can also check the main ANN project for
see comments who agree / disagree or community ideas about the project because ANN threads are like an open forum
where you can ask questions, give insight, etc.

In fact, no one is forced to invest in business schemes without solid backing, because everyone is responsible for collecting all the information necessary to make an adequate decision on where to invest their money.

It is true that many still have the idea that ICOs are a type of investment that allow large returns in a short period of time, but as time goes by this business scheme has begun to lose the trust of many, and It is more likely now to lose money than to earn it, so I think it would be more prudent to refrain from investing in ICOs if you can not afford to lose that capital.

In present time to analyze an ICO is scam, a difficult one. Whitepaper, roadmaps, sites are such made it looks attractive that one can easily trap to invest. We should go through each aspect of the project carefully like its experienced team members, initial fund & also it is rising with its roadmap or not. We can look at the ratings of the project given by ICO experts. Looking at some of these features we can decide about the ICO to invest but it is not easy. With experience you can lower down risk.

In order for you to avoid scam, you must be knowledgeable enough to invest in an ICO projects, in order for you to make profits. When you decided to invest some funds on newly published or active ICOs, it is better to to check it's websites whether if it has a good management team, big partnerships, and if they have already met some goals in their timeline or roadmap.

ICO project and investing on it is very risky at the first place because you don't know what gonna happen next after the ICO sale. But taking a risk in the crypto world is one of the choice you need to claim. But to avoid to the scam you should check all the background of the project and the project or partnership related to it. And check also the team if all of them are legit and good on their fields. Just do some deeply research about the project you want to invest so that you avoid to be scam.

Completely avoid scams will not work. Even experienced investors can get caught. All because there are several types of scams that use different methods of fraud. That's the difficulty.

Now is not the best time to invest in ICO. But if we talk about the general situation, then you need to spend a lot of time studying a good project. First of all, determine how much the project idea is really needed at the moment, how justified is the use of blockchains in this area. Examine white paper, roadmap, profiles of the project team, what experience they have in this area, explore existing partners from the project, etc. This is for me the main criteria when choosing ICO.

The perfect solution is to avoid ICO at all, because market is dumping. By the way there are some good advices, like tokenomics analysis, how much is gonna raise project. For example right now everything above 10 million is too much and I would skip it. 1-3 million market cap seems reasonable

I am the same as you, I am not 100% able to choose a good project but even so I am always optimistic, try my best and always believe in my choice and my choice now falls on the SYNAPSECOIN project because of the many projects, in my opinion, it is the best for me

One can avoid falling into the hands of many scam ICOs by doing a diligent and thorough research about the project, the team behind it and if the product is a workable one. If what you have at the end of this research you have made so far is positive to you then you can proceed on to invest in the project otherwise don't.

And then next step, check the team behind that ICO. LinkedIn profile can help you to know who you will have business with.

The analysis of available information does not always provide an absolute guarantee for the authenticity of a certain project. If you provide examples, you don’t need to look far, just pay attention to the information on ethereum Classic Vision. New people paid for not being able to recognize the fraudster on time.

Share your view and help a friend from falling prey to ICO scam. Let help build a healthy crypto environment. Fight the scam now.

Let's have a look at this from the beginning ...

1) Some people you don't know (and know you) know about a project.

2) Sells a token / coin to be used for funding the project.

3) You have to send money to this project with certain promises.

First of all it is close to the impossible to understand whether the project is real! The most important thing that should be done in order to prevent the SCAM of the project you deposit is to recognize. You need to know or know everything from A to Z. I'm sure those who try to create a SCAM project will make a mistake.

Before joining ICO, you should try checking. And you can start checking through the website display, checking ICO-empowered wallets, and you must understand the white paper. And fake ICO projects are usually unclear on all websites and the Team is no longer active in providing information about ICO developments.

almost every scammer will cover they plan as smooth as they can, until someone make very proper research on it, you can do research on every detail provided by ICO such as roadmap, token allocation, developer team, you can read their wallpaper very carefully and understand where the project will go before and after ICO, the main thing is what can developer deliver to community if there is question and how they treat the investor and community.

If this community decides something for a change, then surely we can bring big differences so that we can have healthy crypto environment certainly. Unfortunately many people are starting topics on this but not taking care of implementing them in practical. I have seen many topics have been created on this purposes but none of them working till the end. I believe only with the help of DT members and staff we could bring changes.

an investor should protect itself by reviewing everything about the project: the whitepaper, development team, project site, etc. That way you can eliminate some risks of getting scammed.
Reviewing will help but no one could do anything with a well prepared/highly masked scam. There are lot of such projects are always existing and most people finding their real face only after months of engagement with them. It seems there would be no concrete solution for this kind of situations.

Times like bear market that is prolonged for more than a year, you may see more and more ICO that never get funded.
Maybe its time the team really has to put more allocations for the bounty hunters to make good promotions to several platforms where more investors are hanging. So that they get even just the softcap and will not scam bounty participants.

At least a viable project should have an MVP, a real office with known team members should they decide to go rogue, they can easily be caught by the government.

The basic things one need to do is to check the antecedent of the team behind the project you want to invest in.This will help you to know the profession they are into before managing the project. The question is,does the purpose of the project tally with their profession? The reason is,one can only give out what he has or what is in him.We have seen some project managers raised $15 million, but they failed to deliver a working product that will attract investors.
You should also check the white paper and as well observe how they respond to constructive questions on their various social media outfit, you will have the overview of their capacity.

Indeed, even at the very beginning of the development of the ico market, it was very easy to deceive the investor’s company, because such news did not know how to pay attention and how to analyze the information in order to have good results. Nevertheless, in 2016 almost every ico company brought good profits. And today it is used by scammers.

The more we try to avoid these scam projects, the more the scammers try to device ways of evading being detected and using several methods to make investors feel they are real.
I have thought that if the team of the different ICOs can be made to report to a trusted body, perhaps SEC or any other trusted one, before starting ICO. I believe scammers will be afraid of their devices.

And I think that ICOs are dead anyway, I've never seen an ICO project that raised a lot compared on the previous years. It's better to stop investing in ICOs and look forward in looking for STOs projects that are regulated but be sure that they have licensed to perform this.

I think its very difficult to determine if the ico is scam. Perhaps, if the ico have a budget for the bounty project, and they already have an

exchange for their utility token, I guess that project is legit. As long as they are transparent to their community as well in terms of their updates

Then easy to choose and invest. It good opportunity for future growth. But some projects token hit the high price. So choose the best project and hold the token. Wait for the price increase. You have quite a high chance of losing all your money on an ICO even if it is not a scam. But to avoid those which are scams you need to do as much due dilligence as possible - look at the white paper, check out the team and what they have done before and ask yourself do they seem capable of doing what they set out in their whitepaper according to the timescales of their roadmap.

I think that now it is important to invest in an ICO that has a product that is useful in the used, financial sphere or transactions as it directly relates to the cryptocurrency and its industry. For example ETHA. All profits friends !

I don't think we can use ratings to judge the ICO because if their team is not smart and irresponsible then it will be in vain even though they get a lot of sales.
you should check the team carefully because even though ICO is less desirable but the team can develop it well then the project can be successful.

for me it is better not to invest in ICO than to lose. even quality ico cannot give us profit. so what are we still investing for?

There is no absolute way to avoid ICO scam. The best we can do is carry out a thorough research before investing. Your research could start from reading the whitepaper to see if the team have a true product that they are looking to offer or if their ideas are truly conceivable. The next step should be looking at the profile of team members on different social media platforms to confirm how legit they are. I also like to check out the social media presence of the project, this just goes to show how committed the team is to seeing their idea to fruition. The summary of it all is that you should do a thorough research.

Although, it might not be that easy to detect and to do the required research for every project, whether it is scam of not.
Reading white paper is not enough, but that after reading, you should be able to drill the team with questions.
This is best done most times by crypto experts. So you might look for one that you can attach yourself to.

The most important thing is to check the credibility of the development team members. Each project must provide links of all developers to LinkedIn accounts and they social media accounts. To verify the credibility of a person, just write a message asking for confirmation of cooperation with the project.

We cannot avoid it nowadays even if you are a good verifier of ICO's and in the end investors and hunters are the one that is affected.. The numbers of ICOs launching the crypto space is very much which makes it difficult to differentiate between the good and legit ones from the bad and scam ones. But I think we can try our best to avoid the scam projects by investigating and analyzing any project you want to invest in very well without leaving any stone unturned or neglecting any red signs.
Check the team and see if they are real
If they claim to have partnership, try to contact their reputable partners and inquiry about the originality
And check the opinion of top crypto analyst too.

I am also sad to hear that so many ICOs are trying to deceive investors and bounty hunters, almost every day we find them. We have not really seen the regulation of investor protection against ICO projects and it seems impossible to materialize. Some things we can do to avoid such fraud are studying the background behind the people involved in the project, what products they offer and how they establish communication with investors. but that does not guarantee avoidance of fraud because some of them are smart enough

Yes, that's right, I myself better invest in ready-made coins and have been in large exchange markets such as Bittrex and Binance, because at the moment good coin prices are down and very cheap to buy, different from buying at ICO tend to be a lot of fraud and many failures at this time.

Ico scams are beginning to look more and more legit as time passes but the formula for catching scam my sales is still the same and it is to research. You have to research every single ico you invest in, check the team, check the road map, the progress, check if they have a product that is already working and also check the value of the community if all these does not check out it is better to be safe than sorry.
But if they do then you can invest also check the token details and economics this is very very important.

Stop? hmm in my point of view some of us will can't to do that because investing at ICO project looks like a necessity. they aware if they get scammed but they still invest on other ICO project. i know it's weird.
. . .  .Of course, there are good ones, like bittorent which has alredy made x5 profit from ICO price. But it was supported by Tron team.
I think if without tron, the possibility of BitTorrent will also be quickly dead.

It is still hard to trace or determine on which ico project are the legit one. But there are only few things that we need to consider for us to find out if the project has a potential or not. First, check the usages of the utility token they have, also the whitepaper, and of course the team and the owner's background of the project too. A lot of teams nowadays intend to start ico projects because of those people who are newbies in terms of cryptocurrency.. They abuse the lack of knowledge of the people who are joining them... Thats why we should be vigilant in choosing ico projects  we want to invest with... Try to search with the dev team members identity... If they are really using their true identity and not just copied from others background... Look for the project or platform itself.. If its possible to achieve success or just an impossible to do so... Look for its roadmap if they following it... And mostly see if the project is reall realistic to happen
