For many years, there are has been several misconceptions and negative speculations surrounding the world of crypto, you might have noticed that bitcoin always come up top despite these negative speculations.
The year 2018 has not been different, bitcoin has endured up to this time. There are has been several ups and downs especially concerning the price. The changes in the price were largely caused by negative news such as those in the media circles. In spite of all these problems, bitcoin has seen the light of day as the  biggest digital currency in the world. As the year enters the third quarter, all crypto enthusiasts can only hope for the best.

There is nothing wrong happening with bitcoin so it surely stood the test of time. It's price has nothing to do with the usecase and blockchain.

what you are calling "negative speculation" has in fact been FUD, misinformation and basically bullshit being spread by mainly those who wanted to  buy bitcoin cheaper or short bitcoin while it was going down. otherwise the downtrend has been natural to some point.
also I disagree with saying it was "caused largely by negative news". based on what I have seen, negative news rarely causes a drop, they only intensify a drop. in other words if there were no drop in first place then the news couldn't create it.

I see bitcoin held a lot of times price-wise, but what's really going to get bitcoin far on this journey is its ability to remain a viable asset class/currency for the people who remains to trust it despite all the negativity it received in the past years. Also, development on the coin should not stagnate; not that I'm wanting more and more features but just to keep the gears going and the system robust against malicious attacks which could greatly harm bitcoin and the trust of the users who hold it.

Price shouldn't be the only factor we should be worried about; the inner workings of the system should also be taken into play.

The effect media and the speculations spread by it has done there fair share of damage to the market and finally the trust of the Bitcoin community has taken over and it has helped Bitcoin to start recovering again from the recent slump. It's just 10years of bitcoin's active existence. 10 years is lot of time to effect any kind if change drastically. Bitcoin has grown in leaps and bounds and, is surmounting all attacks; instigated or coincidental. But I think its still early to safely assume that the coin has "seen it all". I think there are yet tougher challenges for bitcoin in times to come. Especially when developing economies begin adopting crypto over dollar denominated global commerce. You have a very good point there, the things that cause a drop in price of bitcoin are largely not caused by  FUDs, I believe the factors are enormous. Bitcoin is simply amazing and incredible digital currency.

You can't really say whether or not it has stood the test of time, because significant time has not yet elapsed since its creation. I think that for the most part, Bitcoin is doing really quite well, market capitalization is huge, number of merchants is growing and the competition in that strong. It still has at least a few more years left in the tank.

10 years is a lot of time in the modern era. It took fiat a few hundred years to get fully established since mid-17th century and till the end of WWI. Bitcoin may be not as fast and as cheap (in terms of transaction costs) as its competitors but it does its work pretty well, especially now when there are no more spammy transactions flooding the network.

Indeed, there can be black swans, but they can happen everywhere, so we can exclude them from consideration completely. Anyway, bitcoin should be more resilient and resistant to them than any fiat out there as it doesn't depend on governments and their dirty tricks. I would say that we somewhat go over and pass a lot of test during our young existence. Their will be a lot of test coming along the way, but bitcoin is so resilient that I have no doubt that whatever issues or problems that we are going to face in the future, we will overcame it and become stronger as we go along.

Bitcoin surviving this year 2018 means that it has come to stay. Since the advent of bitcoin about a decade ago there has never been so much attack on the cryptocurrency like it has been since the beginning of the year 2018. But despite the ganging up  against the cryptocurrency  it has survived and will continue to be the preferd  cryptocurrency and the leader in the market.

The 2018 is not over yet. We don't know if it will survive. We got quite close to not surviving this year with MtGox money almost ending up dumped on the exchanges and Bitcoin bug almost disrupting blockchain. I think that we got lucky this time and the share amount of luck needed reminds us how fragile Bitcoin is.

The major change in price isn't merely caused by negative news by the media, but because there are some "bad" events happening. Not all price change is caused by fundamental reason though, most of the small change (<10%) recently just kind of randomly happening for no reason but speculation. Market manipulation? Could be, but no one could prove or deny that.

I think what you mean on the first line was FUD and of course the never ending battle of emotions. That is why there is uptrend and downtrend because of that thing. But when it comes to stand over the test of time I think yes but the fact is that we are still in the early days and expect a lpt of things that could have happen with Bitcoin in the near future. As long as the community has strong belief and support to it then Bitcoin will still be the king.

The thing about news i noticed, they seem to be partially true. Major news appear when price is at a turning point, almost seems like the news drive the price further then the chart. That why is good to follow the information and pick it out of the trends, because is good to relate to something like the market sentiment imo.

Bitcoin has stood the test of time but now it is being pushed down by these financial instruments that have wrecked the price and fortunes of many.

I don't see how shorting can damage the market if that is your point. If we look at how Bitfinex margin trading works, and I'm inclined to think that it works in pretty much the same way everywhere, it is definitely not like "it enables shorters to win in this market  <...> and influence the price without even owning a single Bitcoin". When you are shorting, you really don't have bitcoins but someone else does from whom you borrow them, so it is very different from your view or the impression you are trying to make. In essence, you tell only half the truth and make it look like you can sell bitcoins which don't exist, ever. Obviously, it is not so, as you are selling borrowed bitcoins but these bitcoins are real even if they belong to someone else.

I also believe that bitcoin has managed to get ahead of the most difficult tests, when the banks, the government and the financial system barely knew it and did everything possible to crush it through infusing FUD by all means, but now that bitcoin was able to resist all those attacks with enough solvency, the panorama seems to be clearer for the bitcoin and I am convinced that from now on everything that comes for the bitcoin will be forward and upwards.

Yeah, bitcoin has indeed stood the test of time by proving to the entire crypto community and the world out there that it ain't a scam or a bubble. Many misconceptions have been shared ever since the generation of bitcoin by Satoshi Nakamoto but it has proven that a very solid blockchain technology is backing it.

I can only trust bitcoin. I have put some capital into bitcoin and now I'm just waiting for the market price to go up and make a sale. it is impossible to make a sale when the market goes down because it will only get a loss. how long the time will come that makes the market go up I will wait for it.

Bitcoin has remained the number one cryptocurrency since its inception. Despite the countless attacks and threats that come from the governments, banks and media, Bitcoin is still making progress through the crypto market and spearheading the entire crypto space to its goal. This shows that Bitcoin and crypto have greater capabilities of rising to higher values in the near future.

Bitcoin for being the forefather of cryptocurrency and the first to be in the blockchain. It has really been an up and down ride for bitcoin and the people who support it. In my opinion, yes is stood the test of time and more test will come for sure. But I think bitcoin is getting stronger despite of it's value right now because it is way way bigger than it was in the beginning.

As the mother coin i sincerely think it has and will continue be although many will have different speculations both positive and negative. with many criticisms here and there but i know what BTC is capable of been able to stand the test of time for a decade. Really amazing  :)

Bitcoin 10th year anniversary has just been celebrated. This year has been particularly critical because there have been several negative speculations concerning bitcoin. Some people called it scam, ponzi, bubble. There have been several attacks from governments, individuals and some rival projects but despite all these, bitcoin has remained strong.

It definitely has. Ten years is no joke! Bitcoin was beaten up and taken down furiously for the past decade but it still managed to get up. Imagine Bitcoin being a person, he'd look like a zombie! I couldn't even count how many times BTC was killed on this forum alone! Haha! Point is, after all of the trials of past years, BTC still sits at no. 1.

I think bitcoin Stood the test of time,
Because its started from 2009. its a long way you know. I understand some kind of circumstances bring it down,  but you will agree with me to tell its a great invention. And there is more then hope can stand for bitcoin.    

Yes, bitcoin has been around for a long time and I think that it has passed the test of time and won the huge trust of investors. How many he has survived drops, however he not died. So I believe in him and know that his price will recover soon.

All those negativity that destruct the image of bitcoin disappear. We knew that these speculations are just making some FUD so that people will fear or lose their trust in bitcoin as well as cryptocurrency. Reality is that, people who holds bitcoin and understand the real essence of cryptocurrencies are those who have the potential growth. They never leave bitcoin in the air and that is really need of this industry.

Yeah bitcoin is been  a while  for several years and been through for so many difficulties  and even experience a zero value but still persist.

It surely did and there is no doubt it will continue to stay in the cryptocurrency world. It has gone through several ups and down and had survive even the worst conditions of the market so why should anyone doubt it? And as proof that bitcoin is not going to fall is the interest of investors and or businessmen in promote bitcoin by establishing bitcoin ATMs.

Bitcoin is already battered with uphill challenges before it ever skyrocketed to 20,000$ worth per bitcoin last year. That was already a manifestation that bitcoin has already stood the test of time. So with the current status of bitcoin that went off for almost a year now, that's just a spice of its existence and behold, bitcoin is coming back again.

Yes, BTC definitely survived and it's future is great. if it was a failure, we would not be talking about BTC right now in this forum.

In a relatively short period of time since it first appeared bitcoin has made a big progress. So far it has passed many tests, faced many issues and problems but to my opinion it has survived.
Still there is more room for progress and if it wants to stand against future challenges it has to adjust even more but I don't doubt it will manage to succeed.

It definitely did, and mostly it brought many of us into general, block chain space to understand it's technical specifics and benefits, which can be used in different areas as an application.  

i can boldly say bitcoin has stood the test of tie especially the year 2018. This year we saw all kinds of negative news and attachs on bitcoin. Even countries and social media had their threat banning bitcoin but bitcoin has stood its ground growing stronger daily

Btc is already time-tested, but it will have to pass a lot of tests in the future. Hopefully, it will remain the currency no.1 and won't be outperformed by money-supported crypto like XRP.

Yeah. I think I can confidently say that Bitcoin really has withstood the test of time. Bitcoin is almost a decade now and that new features is still being developed. I am very confident that Bitcoin will still grow no matter how hard it is in the future.

Bitcoin has done great for the 10 years that it has been in existence. In the past 10 years, it has evolved from an anti-establishment hobby among coders to a household name on Wall Street.

For me, I will say bitcoin has really stood the test of time going by its 10years time spent and still has a higher value over any of the fiats! Though its fall has been a mega one but still had a resistance level with which it has used to have a hold at the moment. A lot of some digital currencies have come and gone, some businesses have been set up and crashed also but bitcoin is still standing today and not just standing but with a reasonal value compared with other fiat or altcoin!

I agree with you, this year is not the only difficult time for Bitcoin in the last 10 years, but he has proven that Bitcoin has been able to survive. Even though more and more bad news is circulating and trying to break it down, bitcoin looks more prepared to deal with it with the development of its technology.

The biggest tests of time are head. The greater the btc price, they more attractive it becomes to manipulate and use not appropriately. So we need at least 2-3 more cycles to say it does stand the test of time. But it got a head start, no doubt.

Negative news about bitcoin has always sprung up from social media and newspapers, especially in 2018 so that the price of bitcoin dropped to around USD 4,000. This is clearly a test for bitcoin whether it will succeed through a difficult period and become stronger, or will continue to decline and die. I personally am very sure that bitcoin will rise and become stronger and many countries and merchants use it.
