Hi All

What do you use for your bitcoin security, I have been looking into usb style password protectors, but don't know enough about them as to the trust that I should place in them.

Has anyone bought them and would you recommend them?

Many thanks

Comparatively bitcoin has the best security system than any other crypto currencies. You now need to secure you wallet from being hacked and for this you will have make a strong password and try to be updated with your password.

Well actually I only use an online wallet for my BTC I really think it is secure enough to handle the situation at hand, you just need to learn to activate the F2P security that the site will provide for you, Well all the given security purpose for you, But if you surely want a more secure you need to go in an expensive wallet that is truly off line so you can be sure that it will be safe against hackers, But it will be sure prone to lost or your can misplace a certain wallet that have a size of a USB, So you need to be really careful about it.

If you mean something like Ledger HW.1 or Nano S, then yes, they are the best security for bitcoin (and other cryptocurrencies if you go for the Nano S, which is an a upgrade from the HW.1 with more features, albeit pricier). They serve as a U2F (Universal 2nd Factor Authentication) which simplifies the authentication process while providing more security, and they are the best at it (TREZOR as well). If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Nano S as it is more secure and lessens your chances of experiencing Man–In–The–Middle–Attack.

Bitcoin itself is a safe and secure crypto currency. So there is nothing to be worried about if you wish to be associated with this coin. If you are talking about storage as in where to keep the coins, there are a lot of secure wallets out there such as Coinbase. And use 2FD for the verification purpose.

Two factor authentication offered by many websites is insecure. Many believe that SMS codes can protect one from password breaches. As we have seen, it's still possible to get control over one's phone number. Offline software wallet would be much wiser choice these days since it can't be hacked without a direct access.

Bitcoin is the number one cryptocurrency as I know, and lot of people will know that. In the first place bitcoin is a popular and a very known as a cryptocurrency because of they have the best value and the best campaign. They have a safe and secured and that's why people will really want it too.

The security of the bitcoin is really great and it has the strongest security but you will need to ensure the security of your wallet where you will put your bitcoin. You will need to have strong password and you can also use 2FD verification for security purposes.

Your bitcoin security is you. Do not publicize your bitcoin account's private key. Your coin will be safe and secured from theft, fraud and scams. Almost be vigilant about scam packages that demand your bitcoin detail, they may be steal your coins.

"usb style password protectors"

Password and login protection is different from hardware wallet. What exactly do you need? If you need protection for the Bitcoin that you have already bought, hardware wallet like trezor offer everything that you need. But if you need protection for your passwords, yubikeys (https://www.yubico.com) are great. The problem is that not every exchange accept they. In fact, most do not accept. I know bitmex accept. But Binance and Polo don't.

The best bitcoins security is the use of cold wallet to store your wallet and if you can't afford that and you are using an online client, then preserving your private key from unauthorized person is the best way to secure your bitcoin.

You can always store your coins in Coinbase's system. They are not really a wallet system but you can keep your coins there and be content with it. Otherwise, hardware wallets are the way to go. Electrum, Trezor and Ledger Nano S are some great hardware wallets that will help you with storing your coins.

There are mobile wallets like Breadwallet, Coinbase, Copay etc and these are very reliable. However, if you can spend a bit more money then you should try out hardware wallets. They are very safe and secure to store you coins and they have enough layers of security to keep the coins intact.

That is why I am saying this kind of wallet is less secure but a more convenient, efficient and also free, Yup maybe because it is free it is also prone to hackers attack, But I like it most because of its more convenient, But if OP is really into security towards his Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrency he has or he got financial stability then go for trezor or a hardware kind of wallet that can let his Cryptocurrency storage offline and It will consider really safe to hacker attack.

A wallet that has a USB size will definitely be vulnerable to being lost or you can misplace it, so you have to be really careful about it. I only use an online wallet for my BTC, I really think it's safe enough. but if you really want to be safer, you have to use an expensive wallet that is completely off line so you can be sure that it will be safe against hackers.

The security of your wallet is strictly in your hands and it is better that way than to rest it in the hands of a third party  like the software you mentioned. There are a lot of security measures you can adopt to further strengthen your wallet which includes the introduction of 2FA  which is a soft ware that send a code number to your cellphone and request you put down the code numbers in the field provided for your log in to be authorized and if you can not provide the code numbers you will never have access to the wallet. You can also introduce special characters when filling in your password, characters like @ #  $ ! etc to make it difficult for hackers to get into your wallet.

I am not using anything as Bitcoins is secured enough, and I have stored them in a safe wallet, I usually update my passwords often. I do not use a exchange hence I'm not concerned, about recent hacks, as it's often staged by the people working at exchanges. Well I would suggest you to, store it in a secure wallet, make sure you never share your keys, pin or seed with anyone, also make sure not to use it on a public wifi, or a virus infected device.

No I haven't brought them, and have no intention to buy them either just follow the suggestions I have said above and you should be able to secure your coins.

The place where you need to store bitcoin as safe and secure is called ‘’wallet’’. A wallet has some private keys for safety to access your btc. The safety of the wallet depends on the device or versions you’re gonna use.

You can keep your bitcoin safe both in online or offline wallet. Its better to keep small amount of btc in online for everyday use and you need to secure your offline wallet physically.

Bitcoin has a great technology  to secure their system,
Cryptography controls the creation and transfer of a cryptocurrency, and the protocols underlying bitcoin have proven to be robust. ... Bitcoin exchanges are not regulated by the government, and they generally do not provide enough insurance and security to be used to store money in the same way as a bank.

Buying password protectors? there are password generations for free on the web and you just have to search it.

I've bought a hardware wallet and that's more secure than any wallet that I've used before. This will cost you some money but that's better than using an online wallet that you can't be sure of on how secured they are. But if you use a wallet, just keep the private keys and write it and keep it somewhere.

The password generators available online will not work in this case in my opinion. It is next to impossible to break the password of bitcoin wallet.

What I feel is most important for bitcoin security is that the exchanges operating in bitcoins should be very strict with the security measures. Best option to achieve that is to hire security researchers for this purpose.

actually the security of bitcoin depends on each person itself how he secures it. bitcoin will be safe if we are always vigilant and careful in guarding our wallet, once we neglect we can lose it. there are lots of ways to secure our wallet like a strong and complicated password, activate 2FA, always back up your domprt after you check it, encrypt your wallet and still have another way.

Bitcoin is not only the number one cryptocurrency but also the most safe and secured coin in blockchain. Bitcoin online wallet is very safe and secure just follow the security instructions on the site most especially the F2P with this I believed you funds are saved. You can also use Ledger📒 to save your cryptocurrencies offline but you need to be very careful with it because any damage or loss of you 📒 will lead to loss of all your funds. Good luck!

Indeed. It is not the cryptocurrency's fault because the system.make sure that the security is at high alert, which means they immovate it to improves it quality to avoid hacker's and scammers to interrupt the transactions. At the same time you need to do safety measures which is in your part as an individual. Crypto do not have a fault with that or they are not liable anymore. Still we need to do our part.

The wallet itself has a great security in my opinion. If you want to increase your security to maximum, then you should just buy a hardware wallet, like a USB type maybe. Hardware wallet cannot be hacked and its security is in the owner's hand itself. Hardware wallet, the best choice.

A security of 128 bits is impossible to crack with normal computers, so normally a public key is enough distance from your money and the thief, however it is not quantum computer resistant. Quantum computers don't exist yet, but when they will, it will be able to crack a public key and reverse engineer the private key from it.

Yeah but everything have their own risks especially if the person holding the wallet isn't careful. You may not lose your wallet to online theft but if as with a physical wallet, once you lose your hardwallet, you lose all your btcs as well for good

To be honest i am fine with the online wallet paired with a 2FA enabled mobile app (perhaps the method being free appeals to me much).

Hardware wallets are good too. Some people prefer this method of securing their bitcoins but comes at a cost, and at times, hefty too depending on the features and brand of reliability too.

But should you like to try it out, there are some considerations to take. Primarily, how do you plan to use it? Is to for mere storage? Or you want to use it for frequent payments? Varieties of hardware wallets are there. I suggest learning more about hardware wallets before buying one and pinning down how you wanted to use it.

Bitcoin in present times is the most successful and the most popular crypto currency of all and not only this bitcoin is now considered as a threat to Fiat currencies and there are even assumptions that it would even replace the present Fiat system and the most important feature that has made bitcoin so successful is its safest and the most confidential transactions that has made millions of people to invest into it , as it transactions does not involve any third party seizure and provide user anonymity so bitcoin is the safest of all the investment.

If you are running any kind of Bitcoin online business, offline wallets will be a better tool. They are way safer and they are not that attractive to hackers. If you really need to make use of web based wallets, try to keep some of your Bitcoins on an offline wallet, or a cold wallet.

To secure your money use the offline wallet which one of my friend was using it also just like what you said it is similar to a flashdrive that using a many password or  the verification to secure your coins. Securitu was most importance so that we need to care our money to those greedy people that they to get our coins. It is better to use offline wallet that online.

Something like that. This is all about money so they must secure their systems. Especially when the price of bitcoin rise up to million.

Stay away from these USB password protectors. If you want real Bitcoin security, invest in some hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor or alternatively use paper wallets to secure your coins. I have been securing coins in hardware & paper wallets for years and I have not lost a single Satoshi.

Do not over complicate issues with things like USB password protectors. There are malware targeting the firmware of these USB technologies, like BadUSB, so it is exploitable.  ::)

Bitcoin is one of the most secured blockchain in the crypto world. Since I was introduced to crypto I have never had anything like hacking bitcoin which makes me to always recommend it for long term investment. But you need to play your part when it comes to security keep your private keys safe and aviod airdrops don't mistakely use your private keys instead of wallet address with this ideas I believe your funds are save 2FA is very important in you accounts.

Looks like people really are not answering your question and just typing out random shit.. pretty sure it's for airdrop bounties.. It's only as secure as you want it to be.. do you due diligence, make multiple backup's of your private keys and keep them in cold storage. This is your safest bet as to keeping your BTC safe and secure. Mobile wallets and your own PC can be targeted. Ledge S Nano works great but if you don't have the money to throw at it.. use a paper wallet but ensure to keep multiple backup's just in case. Personally I have two other family members holding onto copies just in case anything happen's and my family can receive it. Anyways best of luck, don't share your keys.

Yes in my opinion if only relying on the security of the wallet alone is not enough to keep your bitcoin, I suggest using a hardware wallet for additional security, and also using complicated passwords so that they are not easily hacked.

First, this are the kind of posts and discussions the community need to see more. Every steal truly hurts Bitcoin and people tend to associate the lack of security in exchanges to the security level of Blockchain itself. However, Blockchain technology is extremely good but it can be improved and it's something we could be thinking about - About the possible implementations it could have in our everyday life.

Quote
I think there are several points you can do to secure your bitcoin account.

1. enable two-factor authentication
2. use a difficult and powerful password for all your online accounts.
3. Secure your email account.

I think it's enough to make your bitcoin always safe.

This are good steps, but they are the beginning. It's important to:

Keep your coins inside your device: Unless you're trading and you need to have only the needed amount there, the coins should be always kept in wallets within your own devices - So the private keys are securely owned by you. Unless you're confident about the security practices of some website and it's better to research.

Use hardware wallets and cold storage: If you have a decent amount of Bitcoins this two methods of saving them are extremely good and secure unless you let third-parties with bad intentions be near them. Besides the few coins you left in an before mentioned wallet and/or exchange for trading - The rest should be stored with this kind of technology.

Check your devices security: Security is something you'll always need, it's needed in everyday life. It's better to be sure that while using wallets in a desktop/cellphone/tablet the device itself is secured so your private keys are secured too. Make sure that you choose a wallet that encrypts your wallet file, so in case of emergency it's not so easy to access it.

Basically bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, so it will be very secure because no one can get the key of your bitcoin address.
What you need to do is take a caution when you want to use the key for transferring your coin to other address, hackers can phish you to get your key.

Cryptography controls the creation and transfer of a cryptocurrency, and the protocols underlying bitcoin have proven to be robust. ... Bitcoin exchanges are not regulated by the government, and they generally do not provide enough insurance and security to be used to store money in the same way as a bank.

I personally still use the blockchain wallet. for better security is using wallet hardware. and until now my bitcoin is still safe, the point when opening a wallet, is checking the site address. make sure it's not phishing web. besides, save the private key in a safe place. then backup for several sheets, when you forget in one place or disappear. there are still private key backups.

My opinion is bitcoin has strong security system  relative to other cryptocurrencies. It has the strongest  security yet the key to security is in yourself,You should have strong password and  you can likewise utilize 2FD confirmation for security purposes.Activate 2fa verification and put very strong combination of password so no one can undoubtedly take your coins and wallet. Moreover keep your private keys safe.

Wallets are usually stored digitally, either locally or online, but there are more secure ways to store bitcoins. Your bitcoin "wallets" can be printed out and stored on paper. A paper wallet is a slip of paper with both your private and public keys printed on it.

I use the offilne wallet that I made on a special computer, I turn on the computer if I send coins to the exchange place and it is equipped with a firewall to avoid hackers, even though I can't guarantee my assets will be safe from hackers , many ways are done to hack crypto users' wallets, and if you use password security with USB as often as usb is stored in a safe place and not used for everyday needs, just use it when transacting

I heard someone say they have only the windows password as the only backup they use for their bitcoin, so my question is, is it really safe that way? Then again, can some security designed software be strong enough to secure your bitcoin? I know definitely that there are some antivirus software that can protect your computer from phishing sites and all that, but maybe a more dense layers of security will be needed to make sure cyber hackers find it impossible to hack into your network.

Hardware wallets are by far the best option when it comes to securing your coins the only disadvantage of a hardware wallet is that you need to pay for them but if you are holding a significant amount of bitcoin then you need to buy a hardware wallet, however if you cannot afford one there are several ways to secure your coins like creating a paper wallet or creating a wallet inside a USB that is encrypted and that you only connect to your computer when you want to make a transaction.

Do you mean hardware wallets? Yes, they are of course. Based on some hardware wallets users they find it safe to store huge amount of cryptocurrency funds most especially Bitcoin on the wallet than those wallets that are available online either for mobile phones or for computers. The most popular are Trezor and Ledger Nano. A lot of users has good feedbacks from those brands so I think they are safe.

Write your private key in some text file, do it so on airgapped computer, encrypt this file with some encryption app, make sure you remember the password, now move it to USB and have multiple other back ups of it.

This one of the ways to keep your private key safe (ie. Your Bitcoin).

I recommend you to buy Ledger S Nano to keep your bitcoin in a USB drive, but you need to keep your private keys too. I think it is a secure wallet and you don't have to worry from stealing because the ledger itself will have a password to access. Don't use the exchange wallet to keep the most bitcoin you have because it's too risky and you don't know if they can online for a long time or not.

Buying your hardware wallet gives you stronger security for your bitcoin's. You are increasing your protection with any attacks that can be done through exchange. For those that are using exchange to keep their coins, keep only what you afford to lose just in case something bad happens. And don't use similar passwords that you use with your emails and exchange/online wallets and for those people that can afford to by hardware wallet do it.

The best way to transfer data between an offline computer and an internet-connected computer is to use a USB drive. It is also necessary for safe and secure storage of your bitcoins. Linux has the best performance to counter any attacks related to the use of USB, so give your preference to this system as a USB drive to transfer bitcoin transactions from an Internet-connected computer to an offline computer.

One of the first advices that people receive after buying some cryptocurrency is to get their coins out of the exchange, why is this? This is standard advice because it does not matter how safe is an exchange hackers are trying to find a vulnerability in the exchange and if they do they can steal millions of dollars in a matter of minutes and you could be one of the unfortunate persons that goes through that, but if you hold your coins yourself the target in your back is way smaller and very few hackers will try to get your coins.

Bitcoin is best in its security. It is the safest cryptocurrency right now. That's why most of the people have made an investment in bitcoin, and it has the highest market capitalization.
Well, bitcoin itself is really nice but in cryptomarket, people are too greedy and a lot of scammers are waiting for the fish on their nets. In cryptoworld, security is very important, and we must protect our wallet on its highest level.

I honestly use a local wallet here in our place, I know its not a 100% safe but I make sure that my wallet is secured and I know if something happen with our local wallet, we can file a case against them since its a regulated.

bitcoin have a strong security system bro. i don't think you need to do anything.

Hard wallet can be the most secured wallet but of course don't be confident about it, try to look for more options.

Not only Bitcoin but keeping your desktop Secure from scammers and Hackers for all your important files. I store all my important documents and bitcoin wallet and other altcoin wallet in separate desktop which i only use to access them. For my daily use i use separate desktop so that even if i get hacked or some virus affect it, it wont affect my important documents and wallets. And easily i can format the desktop without worrying for getting loss of wallets hacking.

So this way you can keep your Bitcoin security and other important documents also you can secure them.

Online wallets are never safe. It is actually the worst place to store your valuable crypto currencies. There are high chances of the online wallets getting hacked. All online wallets are prone to getting hacked, no matter how much they claim that they are extremely secure. If online wallets get hacked, you will be suffering from those hacks. Again, you won't be having full control of your funds. Moreover, if the online wallet faces downtime, you will lose access to your wallet for that specific time.

What do you use for your bitcoin security, I have been looking into usb style password protectors, but don't know enough about them as to the trust that I should place in them.

Has anyone bought them and would you recommend them?

Many thanks

The greatest security to your Bitcoin is to remain vigilant and keep safe all your login details to your Bitcoin wallet. Hard ware wallets like the Ledger Nano S also provide incredible security to the Bitcoin wallet.

So this way you can keep your Bitcoin security and other important documents also you can secure them.
it looks like the method you are using is very effective,
i think it's worth trying. i also do as you do, in my opinion it's the safest way to secure all of our important data from hacking.
so we don't need to feel worried or afraid if something we don't want happens.

uncertain, I myself use the blockchain to save my Bitcoin. and until now it remains safe. some of my friends saved it on wallet hardware like ledger and trezor. it is an offline wallet. for the private key, of course I keep it in a place that no one knows. Hopefully this can be a suggestion, the most important thing is to keep the private key in a safe place.

The safeway to secure your Bitcoin is by using hardware wallet like Ledger nano and Trezor. If you want to keep your password I suggest you buy an external hard drive with a built in encryption like WD Passport.

Has anyone bought them and would you recommend them?

Many thanks

The only thing that I needed to to use is my brain LOL. Well kidding aside, it is actually true, that you only needed to use your brain. The only reason why people are getting scammed or something is because they are not using their brain and they do things which a knowledgeable investor will never do unless they are out of their minds. Just be knowledgeable and read many articles and try to hear success bitcoiners thoughts. This will inform you on things you should know.

Hey. It is always better at the moment is to create a file with all your passwords, then set a password on it to add to the archive. Next, we throw off this archive either on a virtual disk or on a USB drive. For greater security is to duplicate it at least 2 times. At the moment it is the easiest, most reliable and at the same time the cheapest way to secure your assets. If you have money you can buy cold purse type Ledger.

The most important is where you keep your bitcoins. I strongly recommend using only hardware wallets. They are the most reliable and safe now. So better take precautions in advance.

Usung only online wallet is not secure at all. Though it has a 2 factor authentication but hackers can breach the security easily I think. So using a hardware wallet is the best choice because hackers can't reach your wallet as it is offline option. There are many websites that offers security for your online wallet which is not secured  in my openion. I think hardware wallet is the best option for security.

Hackers and scammers are always trying to find new ways to obtain their information. Offline software wallet is a better choice since it can't be hacked without an access. You had better prefer having  strong password and use 2FD verification.
I agree with this, it is impossible to protect yourself from all the forms in which a hacker can get access to your machine so the best way to protect it is to have your coins off line as much as possible and the best way to do that is with a hardware wallet, that way it is going to be impossible for the hackers to get to your money since they will need physical access to your house for that to happen and if you also hide your hardware wallet in a place only you know the chances of losing your coins drops considerably.

Well buy yourself a hardware wallet (did you have it on your mind when you said "a USB style password protector"?) it is both the most secure (as of current standards) and easy-to-use device to protect your bitcoins and enable you to use them at the same time. Two manufacturers are worth considering: Ledger and Trezor. Good luck!

If you are looking for more security for your assets or for something else. You should buy a hardware wallet which would be costly for you but will provide, what you actually looking for. But bitcoin is the father of all cryptocurrency and very secure and safe look at me personally do not use any other security device but only depend on bitcoin.

For me, blockchain is quite safe and we can trust for bitcoin storage that we have, and then we ourselves must protect it by maintaining the confidentiality of the bitcoin password that we have in order to avoid the thieves who always lurk the bitcoin that we have. but if you really want something that you think is better, my advice is to use Ledger Nano, because that for me is also quite safe and we can trust it.

The security of the bitcoin is really great and it has the strongest security but you will need to ensure the security of your wallet where you will put your bitcoin. You will need to have strong password and you can also use 2FD verification for security purposes.

Bitcoin has a good security but there are many ways to make it more secure. Having good wallet like ledger will really to make more secure your bitcoin. In terms of security you should be careful so that no one can stealth your bitcoin.

The most important thing is that you should focus on avoiding malware, phishing, and viruses ... because all of that concerns your PC's health.

the risk level of hacking is not on the bitcoin wallet, but on the exchange. on average most hackers target exchange as their target rather than an individual wallet.
well for me, the bitcoin wallet that we often use is also very safe from hacking because it has an online security system.

I think bitcoin has good security system.Hacker are beside here to hacking our bitcoin from our wallet or many kind of exchange.Because they want to get bitcoin without any hard work.Hackers and scamers are provably target the exchange system to hack.we should don't use our wallet in a exchange for long time.If any one have to effort a hard ware wallet, that will be great.Otherwise they should keep there wallet and privet keys only his responsibilty, thank you.

Bitcoin is a digital currency which is some codes on programming otherwise nothing. So, the security is matter. Nowadays even the best digital wallet also not fully secure. I have had some token in the Spectrocoin wallet but now the wallet is empty. So, using of a Ledger or Trezor may solve this security problem.

Truly, there are different types of wallets to consider when choosing to keepsafe our bitcoins. Though a personal computer may sound the safest practically, there are still a lot of considerations to take and safety precautions to ensure that the computer is not prone from any possible hack or attack. And should one wish to keep their bitcoin in storage for a long time, a hardware wallet might prove to be a more viable option but should be well kept and safe guarded.

Please Buy a Hardware Wallet

Those who are the least experienced are the most vulnerable so basically newbies or small time investors.  Most of us haven't experienced losing coins yet, either directly or through a friend.  We probably download stuff we don't need, leave our private keys in some email we had sent a while ago and probably leave our desktop wallets open a bit too long.  So we need to make sure our investments is protected.

We could always use a hardware wallet. Hardware wallets are a device that essentially store your private key on it so you can't be keylogged and requires you to input a password onto it, not your computer, before unlocking the wallet and withdrawing any coins.  It is quiet safe, its secure and only the person with possession of the hardware wallet can withdraw funds

Some Hardware wallets are
Ledger Nano S - https://www.amazon.com/Ledger-Nano-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B01J66NF46/
KeepKey - https://www.amazon.com/KeepKey-Simple-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B0143M2A5S/
Trezor - https://www.amazon.com/Satoshi-Labs-bitcoin-wallet-white/dp/B00P5HU80A/

If you are saying about the bitcoin wallet, yes there is a security that we need to apply and to use it too.
We need to have a strong password, then private key,or phrase key words must be save as your backup wallet to avoid
hackers as well. And you can use electrum wallet, it has a an options in terms of security.

Butonline wallet is the most practical to use. I currently use blockchain.info mobile wallet version. I usually makes easy transactions with it.

I personally only use an online wallet to store my Bitcoin, I think it's safe enough and it's still safe. But if the online wallet makes you worry about being broken by hackers you can use a hardware wallet service that is now widely available for crypto holders such as: Trezor or Ledzer Nano S, they will provide extra security for your Bitcoin.
