Title: 4 Signs and Symptoms That You’re Suffering From Bitcoin Addiction
Post by: cheezcarls on September 06, 2018, 08:50:40 AM
Let’s face it ladies and gentlemen, we all love Bitcoin right? However, we notice ourselves that every single day, we have our own habits in our daily lives. However, it all changed when we expose ourselves too much in Bitcoin and in the world of cryptocurrency.

Without further ado, I will share to you the common “signs and symptoms” that you are suffering from Bitcoin addiction:

1. Your Google Chrome/Firefox/Safari browser always have a tab reserved for CoinMarketCap

Hahaha!! I am so, so, so guilty of this one! When I was working or browsing with some stuff, I noticed that CoinMarketCap tab is present for most of the time. You know why? It is because the volatility of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are so high, in which the price could change drastically whether if moons or dips.

I don’t know about you guys, though. Unless if you are a Bitcoin day trader, you would always reserve a tab for CoinMarketCap.

2. You are not excited in conversations unless if it’s about Bitcoin, blockchain, etc.

Ever since I engaged myself into cryptocurrency, I started to become passionate with it. However, I started to notice that when my family and friends are talking about their interests, I’m starting to get bored and may only socialize a little with them. However, when someone is mentioning about Bitcoin, blockchain, etc., my excitement level increases to talk more about that.

I know you guys are feeling the same thing, but not all, it depends.

3. You are excited when you hear the word “moon”

Of course, of course, of course!!! I love it when I hear that word “moon” because it is all about profiting from my Bitcoin investment. Not only Bitcoin though, but other coins and tokens as well that I am engaging with.

Every time I hear it, it’s like I cannot wait to check the charts once again. How about you guys?

4. Checking the price and charts is the first thing to do when you wake up and before you sleep

I am super, super, super guilty of this! I usually sleep around 2 AM to 3 AM, and before I sleep and turning off my Macbook Air, I check the price first. And when I wake up, I opened it and check CoinMarketCap immediately. Lol

I just don’t know if you guys are having the same habit as me, but it is what it is when we are having too much exposure with Bitcoin, blockchain, etc.

Are you suffering from Bitcoin addiction? Well then, welcome to the club! ;)

Yeap, number one and four are so true for an addict of bitcoin.  ;D
Having coinmarketcap app around is usually the case for most people or other app to check price. Off course, you need to monitor your business to know how healthy or sick it is.

But, for number four, I usually do not check on a daily basis before sleeping. I believe I can't change what will be. Hmm... Maybe I'm not much of a chronic addict....

On the contrary to number three, I think moon is used mostly for altcoins especially on telegram (although moon and bullish are same thing).

Ignoring your friends and family, withdrawing from social interaction, and being obsessed about price charts are not health habits to be developing. Addiction is not something to be laughing and joking about.

You sound like you need to take a break from crypto, re-engage with your social networks and develop or re-develop other interests and hobbies.

This thread made me laugh :D thanks for brightening my day. I'm a bit addicted to cryptocurrencies and often catch myself checking my market tracking app.

It's the sad truth that most of us probably are addicted in some way. I definitely spend far too much time checking up on prices and it's the first thing I think of when I wake up. Those 8 hours without knowing are pretty tough times!

I really think it is just instinct whether there is a money involve sure thing a person will sure stick to it, If he could get profit then why not if he gets addicted to it, As long as it is not illegal to get, Well depending on the country But we can surely sure that this is what most people's motive for bitcoin addiction and I can not call it addiction for nothing if they will get something good for doing it then I call it earning, Because if a hubby doesn't get you a profit or has risk in doing it then that can  be call addiction.

It's pretty BS in the first place. Most of those characteristics aren't signs of addiction at all. Not because I have a CMC tab open all the time it doesn't automatically mean I'm addicted, etc. A different title might be more fitting that calling it straight-off addiction.

Maybe I was addicted to Bitcoin.  :D :D :D In the 4 signs I have 3 signs as you say. I think not only myself but most people in the crypto community are like that.

1,3 & 4 is really suited for me because of addiction i am always check my portfolio whole day and open exchanges websites. also talking with friends about bitcoins on social media sites. because of bitcoin and crypto i am going far from outdoor activities and less interaction from my local friends also my family is asking what kind of work u are doing. but i need to take a break from crypto in this bearish market and concentrate on health and social interaction because addiction of any habit is bad.

I feel this topic quite funny. This is an interesting question. I agree with the signs you give. Also, I do not sleep on time. I often focus on price charts whenever I invest in any kind of electronic money

it was funny now and it is still funny. it is like saying if you have fiat then you are a fiat addict, if you open your wallet and see cash in it then you need to be treated. come pay us money to treat your addiction :D

I won't say its a form of addiction to me though because addictions are always hard to break. In my own case, its more of anxiety when I first got into crypto and I manage to have some satoshis saved up. Its was an experience I don't want to go back to. I tend to check my wallet every hour to be sure its still there, monitor the bitcoin price every now and there in other to follow my 'wealth' movement and decide whether its time to sell or rejoice. At the point every of the four factors up there apply to me on a large degree.

But now, you tend to exercise some discretion now and take things more slowly and see things unfold. Its then safe to assume that since there is no addiction to making money, its bitcoin anxiety that is being interpreted as addiction and mostly common to new entrants into the market.

The post is very interesting, it is very similar to my habits. In fact, Bitcoin has a lot to do with my daily mood, I'm happy, I'm saddened by Bitcoin. Check Bitcoin prices, make Bitcoin topics, etc. I would like to contribute to your post, part 2 we should care more about family and friends. Of course we must focus on work, but do not affect family and friends, must treat them well. In addition, I joined the Bitcoin-related social networks Altcoins to study, share and help each other about virtual currency.

Crypto addiction treatment wtf? What do they do? Make you stare at a dollar bill 8 hours a day to get the crypto out of you? LOL. That's next level gullibility.

And let me guess, it was selling?

I'd also add that a crypto addict is very nervous and overall not nice towards others when his investments aren't going as planned. But when prices go to the moon he is overexcited and wants to hug everyone around.

Well then according to these signs I am not addicted to bitcoin. Albeit I am a huge believer of BTC and a keen crypto enthusiast.
The sign is partially true. Although I don't have a the coinmarketcap tab opened always, I do have a bookmark so that I can open it in a jiffy.
The second sign is not true at all since I do listen to what people say. This is how we get to know others.
The third sign is definitely not true. I never get excited when I hear the term 'moon' since I believe in potential growth of BTC and not a pump and dump.
The fourth point is completely true since I keep checking the price of BTC along with other alts on a regular basis and definitely the first thing in the morning.

looking for information about the market, and also hunting prizes. I stopped only when I slept, I did not do other activities other than bitcoin...

Lol..... You've really killed it with this post. 1 and 4 works for me as I do that like all the time. I need to confirm the worth of what I'm holding each time in order to decide the next action to take. Bitcoin and blockchain technology has really knocked me off.

I think the word “addiction” is not the right term to be used. Any single one of us that reads this post has found his/her way into the bitcoin community. It’s about sharing all our stories regarding the entire crypto space. Sharing One big “passion”. Which brings me to the , in my opinion, correct term: Passion

every day I see a new weird thing in bitcoin community which can not be found anywhere else! the community is pretty innovative when it comes to creating weird content :D

"bitcoin addiction"? what the hell is that? are you an addict if you use fiat every day? or know the value of the fiat you are holding? no you are an addict if you use that fiat in abusing manner such as gambling with it.
bitcoin is the same. things OP describes are not bitcoin addiction, they are addiction to other things such as gambling. for instance someone who has a tab open checking price of different altcoins every second has no idea what trading truly is and how it works so he has to constantly check to see if his bets (since they are not investments) have won him any money or did you lose some more.

I live on the blockchain so can't stay away unless I am killed by the bears and I can't live on it anymore. I have all my browsers full with all things crypto and my entertainment at night is watching silly Youtube videos of everyone making their predictions on Bitcoin prices and pimping their favorite shit coins to get their followers in to dump on them. So much fun I have in crypto, that's why I love Bitcoin, even though I barely have any now due to being wiped out in this horrible trashy bear market. I still live in a remote hope we might see a moon in my lifetime lol and yes, I am a true addict.

The title should go like this. Our habitual engagement in cryptos.

Well I think that most suit rather than addiction since I don't want that negative connotation. Like for me this is a sort of kind of habit to our every day lives and you just didn't notice how it affect us.

On the other hand, I'm guilty of no. 1 and 4 but no. 2 isn't right since we also need to socialize to others even we all have different perspective. Just hang out with them and have fun. As they say, we only live once.

Just forget crypto for a moment, just chill and take a break once in a while.

Ok, then I am fine, because the first thing I do when I wake up is to take a piss and to brush my teeth.  ;D

I have to admit, I do fire up a quick Preev.com to check the price so I am almost addicted to Bitcoin, but I am not to worried about that, because it is a good vice, if you have to have one.  ;D

You talk about Bitcoin addiction, as if it is supposed to be a bad thing. I cannot see why it should be a bad thing. Let's be honest, there are a lot of other things you can be addicted to, that is much worst than a Bitcoin addiction.  :P

I'm guilty of 1 and 4, but I doubt that they can be described as anything even remotely close to addiction. It's totally normal to check how your investment/currency is doing on a daily basis, especially if this investment/currency is highly volatile. I'm sure that people who trade stocks do this every day, including checking charts after waking up.

every day I see a new weird thing in bitcoin community which can not be found anywhere else! the community is pretty innovative when it comes to creating weird content :D

"bitcoin addiction"? what the hell is that? are you an addict if you use fiat every day? or know the value of the fiat you are holding? no you are an addict if you use that fiat in abusing manner such as gambling with it.

Anything can be an addiction if it negatively impacts someone's life. I can easily imagine people wasting hours everyday on reading crypto news, analysis and other crap that doesn't matter in the long run, stress themselves over the price, and then feel bad for spending so much time unproductively.

Of course, majority of us will fall on this signs. Maybe I don't consider myself addict but more of a crypto enthusiast to say the least. I will immediately jump if I hear some discussions about bitcoin, but sadly I haven't heard anyone talks bitcoin in public in our place so I try remain quiet about the subject matter. Well I believe this is the real attraction of Bitcoin. The worst part is you can’t leave these habits. Most of the time you will be conscious about the market facts and will pray for progress of the price

Well then, welcome to the club! ;)
Well technically there are some ways to determine your addiction in bitcoin. Let me break it down to you, 1st of many is that buying it whenever you think of it. Secondly, spending most of your time in this system. Third is putting all you have in bitcoin despite uncertainty. Lastly is when your health being affected in a bad way.

My past self did number 1,3, and 4. In my early crypto days, I used to obsessed with marketcap. Probably because it was the easiest parameter to understand. But now after seeing the whole scene for a few years, I know that market cap doesn't mean so much. I was actively looking for smallcap coin on the rise.

I also used to addicted to Bitcoin price movement. I don't know why, it's not that I hold a significant amount of BTC. Probably because price action was more interesting in the past. Everything feels boring and usual when you've seen how BTC drop from $20K to $6K :D These hundreds dollar candlestick is nothing compared to what I've seen before.

As for talking about Bicoin, blockchaim, or crypto, I always avoid talking on those topics in real life. I would rather known to be someone who know nothing about crypto in real life.

These traits that you mentioned are more on obsession than addiction. From a HODLers point of view, I don't have any of these traits. Doesn't mean that I don't care. But because with this kind of obsession, it's a straight road to depression based on bitcoin's current situation.

For no reason I always check coinmarketcap for the prices even though I don't trade Bitcoins/alt I still do it because it's interesting to watch the volatility of different coins.

It's so funny to read the comments on this thread and on reddit admitting that they have a Bitcoin addiction.  :D

In my own opinion, I may admit that being in the crytocurrency is already part o my routine and I do not consider it as btc addiction. We had reasons why we always start to check everyday at CMC since we are after for the the market update whether it is up or down trend mainly because of the investment you had made on btc and altcoins. Also, I usually open this forum because of my bounty campaign participation that I need to comply daily. I know that the  time for the family and friends has cut down a bit because of my involvement with btc in general since I need to do it.

Ignoring your friends and family, withdrawing from social interaction, and being obsessed about price charts are not health habits to be developing. Addiction is not something to be laughing and joking about.

You sound like you need to take a break from crypto, re-engage with your social networks and develop or re-develop other interests and hobbies.

but this is not as bad as drugs or gambling, because this concerns a future, and indeed bitcoin is not forbidden so I think it's good too. It can make your life better because I am a bitcoin user who has already felt how positive the benefits are after getting a profit in the bitcoin business.

I have found myself in three of four points you have mentioned. Is this addiction or not we could discuss. Still if you are involved in Bitcoin for a long time like I am, some things simply become a habit. And we now that habits can easily turn to addiction but on the other hand if you want some serious gain from Bitcoin you have to be seriously involved.

Wonderfully all the above symptoms exist in me.  After reading the article written by OP I checked these in myself.  All these are present in my daily routine.  I want to see the price chart daily more than once.  I take more interest in bitcoin / crypto related discussion as compared to any other topic.  I also want await moon as stated by OP.  So I think these are the habbits I think most of the members of the forum will be having.

I don't see any of these as addiction to Bitcoin except number 2, checking the price chart is a normal thing to do it simply means you are keeping track of your investments same goes for having a tab on your browser for coinmarketcap, being excited hearing the word moon also means that you are happy that you are gaining from your investments, not being excited unless a chat is about Bitcoin, blockchain and the likes is the start of being addicted to Bitcoin

Not sure if Bitcoin addiction is something real or you are just making it up right now. Even I had some kind of obsession with Bitcoin once I first joined the scene during 2017 but I haven't seen anyone getting addicted towards Bitcoin so far. So, I am a bit confused that either I am too dumb to understand the sarcasm or I am just not aware of such mental disease.

Yeah, But too much addiction is not healthy anymore, it is better to manage time rather than looking on Coinmarketcap every now and then and from time to time especially when you hodl a huge amount of Bitcoin that you bought on later 2017 and early 2018 when its price or value is skyrocketing to the moon. ;D
I think I'm not addicted because I can still manage my time and do some other kinds of stuff in our home but I surely do the number 2, 3 and 4 from what the OP just posted. :D

Guilty in number one and four here. I also wants to open tab for the bitcoin browser, I woud like to have a bookmark for bitcoin browser so it is easy to open and to look it immediately. I also wants to always to look the market price to monitor the it so I can think what possible strategy I would do if that case happened. But I could not consider myself as an addict but I love bitcoin though.

Well then, welcome to the club! ;)

No addiction signs! Good for me  :)
Same as me, which is weird since what I do half of my day is read about crypto and economics.

I think there's this point that you just become grumpy about bitcoin instead of being so enthusiastic about it. I don't have a tab for coinmarketcap as I have the Blockfolio app on my phone which tracks the value of my coins and it's linked to different trading sites.

In conversations, I really dislike talking about bitcoin to people because they mainly have no idea what is it or they have the wrong idea. I've spent enough time educating people, I think, about the subject and I'm just done. I just let them be because I know eventually they're going to know that they are wrong once they start reading again.

About the "moon" word, hmm, not really. I never had that even before.

And I don't really check the price that often. I only check the price when I'm in need of funds just so I know if I should wait or it's okay to cash out some money on that day. Plus, I'm quite surrounded by people who knows about bitcoin so I pretty much have myself price dump/pump update notifiers. ;D

lol but who wouldn't want to be addicted to things that create wealth and make the society better? I consider addiction as inability to resist stuff that is bad for you. Getting stuck here in Crypto World does not feel like addiction to me. Though I am usually awake at nights doing thesame things... they feel more like fun and real work. They're one of the few things I do without feeling useless or to much stressed.

The number 1 and 4 makes me laugh because I related on that, of course there is a sign that you are addicted on bitcoin but we all knew that when you are addicted on bitcoin you're addicted to earn money too so is it really a good habit?
For now I'm ignoring my family,friends,etc.. just to read about bitcoin although eating at right time, but thanks for waking my mind up because now I've been awake to reality that bitcoin addicted is not so right although it's right to earn money but to ignore family? no no no.

I think I suffer from all the 4 symptoms listed, and it especially peaked when Bitcoin's price was in a strong bull rally. Having said that, this cannot be compared to the serious addictions that people suffer - from alcohol or even video games. It interests me, but is not compulsive enough to become a disorder. I definitely won't be visiting my family doctor for this!

actually, we become an addicting person in cryptocurrency, right? ;D because our life related with the crypto and realize or not, the crypto now is part of our lives and we build a new habit while we are in the crypto. I agree with you and I got all of those 4 signs in my day and I think I am fine with that ;D but I do not always check the price in my computer because I install some apps in my android phone so I can check it when I am not in front of my computer and I can get a live price in many exchanges.

I think there are lots of things in the bitcoin that can make you addicted to the bitcoin and being so profitable and beneficial, there are millions of people around the world who get addicted to the bitcoin after understanding the fate and potential of bitcoin and then the amount of profit it can provide in a very short span of time and apart from your characteristics, there are few more characteristics of bitcoin addiction that you always check the valuation of bitcoin and keep praying for increase in valuation.

I believe we should not call it Bitcoin addiction, rather people are addicted to the money that is involved here. If someone would have been really addicted with Bitcoin then he/she probably would focus on the features of Bitcoin and how to make the mass adopt it faster than focusing on the monetary value of it.

Its whole physiological game. I am completely agree with thoughts mentioned above for addictivity of not just for Bitcoin but all crypto.

Usually we get controlled by own ourself and for that we get trained as per our demands from our own expectations by ourself. And for that think we care so much and for care we need monitoring which give thought process for examine situation and condition whether its in favor or against.

People already involved in crypto are much close to above conditions. But right now newbies are also getting involved on higher number to crypto world.

All things and behaviour of current digital world along with technologies like as blockchain, AI and ML taking human being to virtual world to make financial activities which is really innovative and revolutionary platform for business. But at the same time human entering into new era of economics and finance.

Bitcoin makes a person do more than the usual, maybe because they have seen it happen to other people and they want it somehow to experience it, we're all know it and so those things happen without realizing that we are doing beyond normal things...I mean we exceed.. specially when we heard the words.. bull...moon and among others and we always keep ourselves updated as to not to be left behind.

The first thing I would usually do after I woke up in the morning is to check the prices of bitcoin on the crypto-currencies trading market using my smartphone, I guess most of the traders who are trading bitcoin on the trading market might be suffering from bitcoin addiction, but I think it is normal for traders to keep track of their investment daily, and if it is not affecting their job in real life, I think it should be fine.

I think bitcoin is not addicted because what push a person to strive and work hard to earn bitcoin is to gain profit to support the needs of living, as for me bitcoin is not a game and can be stressful if we don't know how to handle it but profit awaits for those who understand and have a virtue of patience.

It really is an addiction, agreeing that it motivates a person to become more hardworking and think more to make money but because of the benefits and the change it brings, we have sunk too deep into it and become dependent. A very clear evidence is that many people after waking up, what they do first is to check the price of bitcoin then, the appearance of crypto, it occupies all the time of their day, they only care about crypto and crypto, the world around them is nothingness, family and friends are similar

But now I am still pretty sad when Bitcoin prices fall. But I'm happy because I have a good chance to invest Bitcoin at a cheap price.

The word "moon" i think died out already we use to read that word every now and then here but now that bear market hasn't lasted yet for almost a year, the excitement died too. bounty hunters are more excited when the word "distribution" is mentioned in the thread. Addiction to bitcoin would also die if you have invested to BTC while the price if more than 10k but watching the prices keeps us wake still.

You are right and I do not deny that it is true, I have been addicted to crypto, but I think that is natural because crypto can make a profit.
If you are getting addicted to something then you may face the consequences as well,if your intention is to make more cryptos with your skills then you addiction may be helpful for that by making you do hard works but you just gamble with speculation then it may be harmful.

Awesome one and very humorous! none of them will suit me as I start my day checking my mails, calender and Skype, - I check CoinMmrketCap 5/6 times a Day. BTC and Blockchain is awesome topics, but I feel them just as interesting as my everyday job. Moon is always exciting to me, and I love to see BTC to go moon, man and women to go moon, poem about moon and looking at the moon - I am all loony, lol! Well, half-guilty about the forth one, I check prices and charts before I go to bed, everyday.

For me that is true especially the additional tab in internet I am also doing that . But the truth is eveything that is over is not good our life. Vut for me when the time that you are already a bitcoin addict you can say that you are already successful because when you are classify your self as a bitcoin addict you can more do more than the succesful and hardworking businessman because you are doing business. Remember that bitcoin is not a vice that when you become addict your less are going to mess. But in bitcoin when you become a bitcoin addict you are going to be a rich. So it may happen I will not going to affraid if I am be called a bitcoin addict.

4. Checking the price and charts is the first thing to do when you wake up and before you sleep

the symptoms that are often common in bitcoin users are number 4, checking prices and graphics is very important to do every day even every minute

Did you know there is a clinic with a rehab center to purge crypto addictions, they say it's the same addiction type than poker. And I am not joking I have a thread posted some months ago in the trading sub-forum.
It's not a Bitcoin addiction but rather one about trading (the fact that is with BTC is another parameter)

Well then, welcome to the club! ;)

Will in my own there are different sign of becoming an bitcoin addiction first are  lack of sleeping, because once a person become a bitcoin addicted its always monitored his asset or what happen daily the market chart, second  always irritiated when something dump happen in crypto world, thirds every minutes they alwaus panic and always thinking what happen to his investment  and lastly person become addicted in bitcoin become greedy, because he always want a positive outcome of his investment.

Whatever one does frequently, he certainly will develop addiction for it. Crypto is capable of taking almost more than half of your day. In situations where you have made huge investments, you can't just sit without having an idea of the market trend.
Exactly. If you're totally a bitcoiner, surely most of your time is already dedicated to bitcoin already. The addiction is not really bad but i think you need to balance your life activities somehow.Of course you have to monitor btc price if you have made huge investments on it but make sure you will not be carried away with your emotions when the price had suddenly goes down.

I'm very guilty with 1,2 an 4 before but I not with 3 because it's like catching gullible people to buy the tokens they want you when they say moon. I remember not only addicted to checking coinmarket price but also checking my portfolio to see if it already reached 2x.

So funny but so true. A story of my life. At least I have a full-time job so I can distract myself from checking altcoins rates 24/7 online. Still, I would prefer more time for myself and less time for crypto.

From that signs, I guess I am on the number 4 because every I wake up, I've always checked the price first in my android phone so I can see how good the movement of bitcoin and altcoin ;D

For the number one, two, and three, I think I am not like that because I do not always check CMC although I have one tab for CMC. When I talk to other people, I don't speak about blockchain, bitcoin, and cryptocurrency every day but I always talk about everything, so I still give an interest in the topic. The "moon," it is the word that I often heard from my friends when we gather in the coffee shop or by chat message and usually, I am not too think about this because I don't think that the real "moon" will comes to us in the short time.

I don't agree with you! I feel the same weaknesses as the author of the topic, I subscribe to each of the 4 signs. But I don't think this is addiction, like poker addiction. I just have a dream, and a cryptocurrency can bring me closer to this dream or even realize it. Therefore, I worry about the state of the cryptocurrency.

The topic is interesting. I do not know if I've actually been bitcoin addicted yet. I would love to look at bitcoin price charts and like to watch the waves on the bitcoin price chart. Sometimes it makes me happy when prices rise and vice versa. I locked myself in the room and used that time to trade with bitcoin to make a profit. Maybe I was addicted to it.

Well 1,3 and 4 is me and I think all of us like that everyday because that's what we do everyday.  Its important to check our funds and what the market goes if it's great to invest it or we having a profit that day. I think it's not a addiction its natural because we do it everyday to check our funds.

I have experienced it one year ago but now I am relying on being alert to smartphones to check the price of bitcoin. Right now I am only checking bitcoin waves through graphics if indeed there is no good thing I go back to this forum and I am indeed addicted.
People who are addicted to bitcoin are people who enjoy huge profits when the price of bitcoin reaches almost USD 20,000 in December 2017. After the big profits they can use to buy houses, cars, jewelry, vacations and so on. After that period, his life was always filled with the word bitcoin. Browsing the internet, always bitcoin. Meet friends, chat about bitcoin. Read the newspaper you are looking for news about bitcoin. Finally there is no other life, only bitcoin, bitcoin and bitcoin.
