Title: Shit Bitcoin Fanatics Say
Post by: BitcoinGirl325 on March 05, 2014, 09:13:39 PM
My boyfriend made these 2 comedy videos as a gift to the Bitcoin community! I think they're hilarious, but I'm SLIGHTLY biased.  ;) Hope you enjoy!! In my mind, part 1 seems more geared towards the general populace, and Part 2 seems more geared towards the Bitcoin community. Which part do you like better?? You already know my answer -- I like them both!! :D

Shit Bitcoin Fanatics Say, Part 1

EXCELLENT!!!!!!

EDIT: How much did it cost to produce the videos?
And what was your motive for doing them?

There's a little 1-second bite in the first video that says that Bitcoin is bringing democracy to the world. This is BAD. Democracy means majority rule.

If you are in the minority, you might not like majority rule. Bitcoin is not democratic. It is not majority rule. It is everyone for himself. It is learning how to be responsible for your own actions and freedom, or you might lose to a Bitcoin thief.

Bitcoin is the laws of nature being enacted in mathematical form to grant freedom, not democracy, to everyone in the world!

:)

Haha! Glad you like them!!

I think his ultimate motivation is to get Richard Branson to offer him a trip into space! ;) LOL. No really, he just loves making comedy videos for fun, he loves Bitcoin, and he was soooo tired of saying the same things over & over again to everyone he met ("No, Bitcoin is NOT a Ponzi scheme!") that he finally realized that there had to be some real comedy gold here. He's always believed that the funniest things are "real life situations", so he just put together a bunch of things that he found himself saying over & over & over again… and threw in some bonus crazy stuff as well. He hoped that if he has been saying these things constantly, then others would hopefully be able to relate to it as well. (He also likes to poke fun at himself with self-deprecating humor… you can see that he doesn't really take himself too seriously, because he's basically making fun of himself.) Sorry for the long-winded answer… I will ask him his motivation and get you a more concise answer later! ;)

It cost him about $4,000 to create the videos (professional videographer, professional editing, food on set, location costs, all those Bitcoin t-shirts in every scene!!!!, the Bitcoin sign, etc.). So if anybody is feeling generous, please donate bitcoins to him! :) Although he will probably kill me for posting his expenses publicly on the forum.  :P

Great !!! really great !! I vote thumb up for this ;) Very good! Perhaps I should subscribe :P

I feel like I was hearing my self when from october last year when I meet my friends they always hear about why bitcoin is so great, why all of them should get some and when I meet my girl - usually greeting quote "bitcoin price up again!" (or down...:P)

Heheh..

I am not an expert miner (I don't mine... I was mining bitcoins for about 10 min until I found profit calculator and seems like 1$ per week is not too much. :D, I was mining Dogecoins ... and after 1k I gave up as well :P ( they never gave me my 1000 :P hehe scam pool :P ) (but I did helped to setup some miner :P - as I am IT guy so I know something about everything :D )

But Bitcoin is for me like a sun cutting the  clouds, I dunno - like water for flowers or a lighter for a smoker...

Bitcoin is wow.

And I don't get why so many people still don't get it :)

Actually, the thing that is called democracy, is really an oligarchy. "They" tell us it is democracy, just to make us think that we have something to do with it, just to make us think that we have freedom.

But, your point is well taken.

Remind me not to date you at least until BTC hits $100,000 ;)

That was funny, though. As I've heard someone say, it's "so funny because it's true that it wraps around and isn't funny any more, but then wraps around a second time and is funny again, but with a tinge of sadness" :)

:)

Hmmm...so how does the Bitcoin protocol determine its rules?

The rules have been determined by the devs and Satoshi. They are strictly followed by the client, according to the laws of nature for math and electronics, etc.

People are developing all kinds of other coins and things that resemble Bitcoin. But, because they are different, they are not Bitcoin.

At this stage of the Bitcoin game, if anyone wants to actually change the Bitcoin programming so that it acts and reacts with the whole blockchain and with all the versions of the client already out there, he is going to have to be very careful, or it won't work.

If someone develops a quantum computer, for example, he might be able to add new rules to those already in use by Bitcoin, and change the whole structure of the Bitcoin operation. Quantum computers in every household just might make Bitcoin anonymity a real thing.

:)

It's more of feudalism, those who were early got the land and now rest of us are slaves. From time to time some rise to the top, but it's more of exception than rule...

There is Zoloft medication for your irrational personalizing your anxiety and lashing out at someone who is rational. I am just expressing a preference for something funny enough to make me fall on the floor laughing, e.g. Homer Simpson, Richard Pryor, Rodney Dangerfield (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2yH5YcK13s), Jim Carey, SNL, Beavis and Butthead, or my best friend snorting out peanut butter through his nose, etc.

Even the old Wendy's commercials were funnier than that bland snot in the OP videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CaMUfxVJVQ

Or some Dancing Baby or dancing dog is more entertaining than seeing his yuppie twat face:

http://bluefishway.com/2012/08/26/the-dancing-dog-video/

Even guilty dog with cute little girl is more entertaining:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u5I33rEhCQ

I am reasonably obsessed with fixing Bitcoin, but you guys are beyond pale obsessed if you think those OP videos were above a 2 on the 1 to 10 comedy metric.

Sorry no offense intended to the lady who posted them, nor her bf. They could have exaggerated the ideas much more to a much greater effect. Great comedy is about exaggeration.

If you would have posted an address, I would have accused you of pulling a Wales (think Wikipedia and intentional accident, if not up to speed). BTW, what's your bitcoin address in case I get generous while reading the rest of this nice thread?

Also, if possible, what state are you located in, albeit I'm pretty sure I could dig it up? I'm in Illinois, and would love to meet up with this dude.

What a waste.  He should have bought his girl diamond earrings instead.

Lol! Now you're talking! Remind me to date you if I become single. ;)

Put me on the list. I'm a barn wood broker, listed on the Belgium Barn Boards Exchange (BBBE).

Sorry to say I was expecting the videos to be much funnier. I didn't bust a gut.

:)

Democracy is run by the minority, not the majority.
The majority are their slaves ;)

Gentlemen you are expressing the philosophy of the Dark Enlightenment (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495527.msg5495338#msg5495338). See also this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=495527.msg5537899#msg5537899).

I, too, didn't bust a gut, but the production quality was damn good, as well as the acting.

Probably because it isn't about trolls posting here and there.. ;)

+1

Come to think of it, you are right. Shame on them for posting two videos that garnered ONLY ~50K views, bringing further attention to what you're obsessed with--Bitcoin. Shame on them!

You and I could have done better with a lesser budget and probably have gotten 60K views with only one video.

If somebody could snatch a better screenshot, have it, although I believe I did a pretty good job thanks to the HD used during production.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!

EDIT: How much did it cost to produce the videos?
And what was your motive for doing them?

Scott's an actor:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0741662/

I remembered him when I saw him in "High voltage" again.

He's very good, I'm suprised he had to self fund, the bitcoin production is a pro production, it doesn't look self funded.

 ??? ??? ???
I'm a little confused when watching him win $37k in the gameshow "majority rules":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYIqoQDHrcI

at 6:59 when asked by the host about his occupation he says

Quote
"i'm originally from chicago, and now i own a computing and consultancy firm in los angeles"

chicago checks out on his bio, but "computing and consultancy firm"?

the show only ran between 1996-1997,

in 1996 he appeared in "Prom Pudendum"
in 1997 he appeared in "High Voltage"

I would have thought he would have mentioned that to the show host, "I'm an actor and have recently been involved with..." or was he in character as an actor during the show? Or was he really also the owner of a computing and consultancy firm and appearing in feature films at the same time?

I suppose it's cheaper for shows to produce content using actors rather than general public, prize money can then be more impressive than actors fee, more viewership less outlay.

Well either way I'm sure this bitcoin video will get many views.

Scott has been running his computer business www.ScottWorld.com since 1992. That's what pays his bills, not the acting! :)

Los Angeles is a completely different world. Almost everybody in Los Angeles is an aspiring actor. Acting does not typically pay the bills. (For example, Scott made a grand total of $500 for his role in High Voltage, then got a residual check for $200 a few years later. That was it!)

Almost everyone in Los Angeles -- even down to the taxi drivers and the gardeners and the dentists -- is an aspiring actor. Scott has a standup comedy joke about how his dentist had a headshot of himself on the ceiling, so while the dentist was working on your teeth, you would be staring at his headshot. Particularly effective if you were an agent or casting director sitting in the dentist's chair. Same with the eye doctor… instead of looking at a normal eye chart to test your vision, you would be testing your vision with the eye doctor's acting resume: C -- S -- I -- N -- Y

All the game shows (which are all filmed in Los Angeles) have extremely strict rules that you are prohibited from mentioning that you are an actor on the air. This is for at least 3 reasons:

(1) It would make it seem like the game shows are scripted or rigged, even though they are not anymore (ever since the Quiz Show scandals of the 1950's). All game shows are carefully monitored by the Federal Government during all tapings. There is always a federal government watchdog employee present at every game show taping. The Federal Government has an entire game show regulations division.

(2) It could be considered solicitation for acting work from the viewing audience. Game show regulations require that the contestants are not allowed to promote anything on the air, nor can they ask for work on the air. This is also why you never see anybody on any game shows wearing corporate logos on their shirts: it's not allowed. This is ALSO why contestants always *GENERICALLY* state what they do on game shows. For example, they never say, "I work at Apple Computer." They always say something like "I work at a nationwide computer manufacturer." You will never hear a game show contestant specifically state the name of a company or product.

(3) It would also make for an extremely boring show if people could state they were an actor. Every single person in the audience is very likely an aspiring actor. At least 95% of the audience is probably aspiring actors. It would leave nothing for the host & the contestant to chit-chat about. Game shows want people who are very expressive with their emotions on-camera, so they reach out to the acting communities to get actors to audition for their shows. Actors are also very likely to be struggling for money, which gives them even more reasons to want to be on game shows! Scott had to go through 3 days of auditions before he was even allowed to sit in the audience for that game show. They put you through on-camera improvisational speaking games, they make you play samples of the game, etc. Many people do NOT make the cut. (Price is Right is different… they are the only game show that does very quick auditions immediately before the show starts taping… but they still do auditions.) Once Scott got selected to be in the audience for the real taping of the game show, the rest is up to luck & chance & skill. In other words, once the game show starts filming, it becomes a real game of chance & skill. Nothing is scripted or pre-determined.

Hope this sheds some light on the wacky world of Los Angeles!

Wow thanks for the comprehensive answer!

I know a few people from Los Angeles, but their not aspiring actors, they do like films though. Perhaps it's not so common in the more suburban areas.

Anyway Scotts a good actor!

P.S.

It's a shame the video wasn't:

"The shit people say about fiat", could have been so funny like "It's backed by gold you know!" etc. I feel that would have been more beneficial to promoting bitcoin.

As it stands I feel the video is not good for Bitcoin. But hey, we live in an upside down world I guess, interwebz and all!

BitcoinGirl tell your man to add this to his next video.

Bitcoin is GERMS FREE.

Why do I say this?

I was just at the grocery store to pick up a few things.
I was waiting in line to pay at the cashier when I saw the person in front of me paying for her order.
She pulled out a €20 out of her bra - and let me say she didn't look like the cleanest person or clean at all.

Since I knew that, that 20 was coming at me as change so I moved at another cashier but my point is.....

BITCOIN IS GERMS FREE!!!!!
It does not change hands (literally).
