People getting scammed by scam coins/tokens and the publicity of the news about the scams are getting gives people a bad impression of bitcoin/crypto. So it does slow down adoption to some degree in my opinion. Long term though? This will probably be irrelevant. Technology moves forward nonetheless.
Legit altcoins though? Probably not. Not a single altcoin that's focused on being a store of value or for-payments is close to bitcoin in terms of adoption and security. Bitcoin will always be ahead because it is the reserve currency of the crypto space. It will eventually become a reserve commodity for the world. Governments will eventually be buying Bitcoin to hold in their reserves. Bitcoin is far too secure, and the network is far too large for another coin to take over. Nothing can replace Bitcoins killer app of being the most secure store of value outside of any third parties control. Also, shouldn't this be in the altcoin discussion board? I could be wrong, maybe it fits in Bitcoin discussion since it isn't about any particular altcoin. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: Webberson on September 19, 2018, 07:10:09 AM Bitcoin is self dependent and its existence brought about other cryptocurrencies which are now known as Alternative currencies. I believe that no matter how strong an altcoin becomes, it certainly would not be able to take over bitcoin's existence. The previous and current state of the market at every given point in time shows it all.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: Manuel05 on September 19, 2018, 07:18:21 AM I will say let them keep coming. Bitcoin is forever the big guy every altcoin is looking up to. In the past, alot of altcoins have marketed themselves with some sort of comparative advantage to Bitcoin. For instance, some altcoins have touted really faster confirmation times; others claim to offer privacy enhancements. But for some reason bitcoinn still remain dominant. Even though Bitcoin developers have focused on implementing their own innovations rather than responding to what’s going on with the altcoin market.
Right now it wont affect bitcoin existence but hey nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. I think the more we have altcoins, it exposes bitcoin as the dominant coin because many altcoins come but when the wind is blown by bitcoin, they die off. Just like the parable of the sower, sowing seeds with weed, won't lead to any growth. Alt coins with that same amount being spread across those Alt coins. The shitty Alt coins will not hurt Bitcoin, because they do not draw investment capital towards it. The only Alt coins that pose a threat is the ones that are good. They will take a lot more investment capital away from Bitcoin, than all these shitty Alt coins combined. ::) Many of these Alt coins are bought and sold to make a profit and then this profit is used to buy bitcoins. ;D Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: qwerty12 on September 19, 2018, 04:42:00 PM I see the replacement of Bitcoin as something that cannot be avoided. Current market prices are a reflection of BTC adopters who do not use coins for anything but trade.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: oceantiger on September 19, 2018, 04:49:45 PM Bitcoin is poles ahead of all altcoins. The best they can do now is to play catch up on bitcoin. I know bitcoin has some issues which has to do with scalability and high fees. But bitcoin will also be working on these lapses to mitigate it. Bitcoin has a chunk of the market share and it has the highest price in the market. Even if there will be a time any of the altcoins will attempts surpassing bitcoin that will be in far future.

True we can have an altcoins that can be a threat to bitcoin. But if that's gonna happen, I think such projects must have prepared well, put everything in place and most importantly must have find out where bitcoin is lacking and thr deficiencies of bitcoin then it can work on it. By then I think we can have an altcoin that can be a threat to bitcoin. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: cabron on September 19, 2018, 06:02:47 PM It would instead add value to bitcoin because in the end those altcoins are going to be paired with bitcoin but will also add value to the altcoins, this has to work both ways. BTC holders can invest to the altcoin and altcoin holders wants BTC depending to the kind of users, some are putting value to the newer project if it has the potential to add adoption in the market. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: cetald on September 19, 2018, 06:04:25 PM Altcoins do not pose any threat to bitcoin. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: Docnaster on September 19, 2018, 06:18:54 PM I don't think that they directly threaten Bitcoin, I think the bigger probably is that too many coins lead to the total market capitalization being spread too wide, making it very difficult for a single coin such as Bitcoin or even Ethereum to gain much ground as there's not enough money moving around. I think that if 90% of altcoins died, the market would be stronger overall.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: dogtana on September 19, 2018, 06:42:04 PM Bitcoin and a few fundamental altcoins can coexist and prosper. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: becak mesin on September 19, 2018, 07:05:26 PM I start from the price of bitcoin itself. Basically, bitcoin prices are not influenced by other crypto currencies or often called altcoins. Because Bitcoin has a system and principles that cannot be copied by anyone, and the amount is very limited. So that makes the price of bitcoin is very volatile and unique.
Bitcoin exchange rates are influenced by market demand and supply as well as conventional currencies, the difference between conventional and controlling entities is that, while bitcoin is not. The bitcoin exchange rate is determined or influenced by the Bitcoin holder itself. The more people who store bitcoin, the more expensive it will be because the market demand or supply is little. However, along with the development of the crypto currency, there are now many hundreds of smelly currency popping up every day, there are approximately 16 thousands recorded. So that makes investors who have capital a little more interested in buying or storing altcoins than bitcoin. This certainly has an impact on the bitcoin exchange rate, because of the reduced market demand for bitcoin. So that makes the price of bitcoin will certainly decrease. so according to my understanding, I hope the masters can provide more explanations to improve my understanding of this topic. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: emmybd on September 19, 2018, 07:30:57 PM It is true that many ICOs are coming everyday, but most of these would fail in future, so i don't think that too many altcoins would pose a threat to the existence of bitcoin. Bitcoin is a well-established coins, so new coins wouldn't match it.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: coincrag on September 19, 2018, 07:44:21 PM One way to gauge the "threat level" is by looking at Bitcoin's dominance in terms of percentage of total market cap. As of today, BTC has around 55% dominance over the rest of the altcoins. Back in January, the threat of altcoins seemed quite real and alarming while Bitcoin dominance was as low as 32%. Even then, Bitcoin continued to exist. One thing to watch out for in the future is if any altcoin overtakes Bitcoin in dominance. The closest one I've seen almost do it is Ethereum back in June 2017. If such an event ever came to pass, Bitcoin would still continue to exist.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: burky155 on September 19, 2018, 07:47:59 PM No, i wouldn't say that in any condition. The Bitcoin is the first and the most powerful coin ever. Also the Bitcoin has the %57 market cap so it has big dominance. There are 1000s of altcoin, unfırtunately most of them worthless with the last market lost. So no coin can race with the farthers of coin "The Bitcon"

With the advent of a new variety of altcoins, the common interest of people to the crypto currency is growing and this also positively affects the popularity of bitcoin as the first crypto currency. I believe that we need the altcoins, even if a significant part of them are useless. All of them will be weakened by the crypto-currency market, only useful and promising ones will remain, and thus, the whole of the whole country will develop.

Other popular coins are private coins, these also are not a threat becasue decent vendors wont use them anyways. Then there is protocol coins which have their own gae, which also does not impact BTC. Unfortunately, most of these coins are not really showing any great signs of trying to give bitcoin any meaningful competition as bitcoin is still in the lead as the world number one leading digital currency. None of the many coins in the market pose any great threat to bitcoin as most dying out in the markets with zero or no volume in trading. The coins that are coming closer have a difference of about 4000$ dollars per token to be able to get closer to bitcoin which is impossible as far as the cryptocurrency world is concerned.

Many altcoin created with different purpose and i think more altcoin can not be a threat for bitcoin. But maybe more altcoin can reducing bitcoin dominance in market because investor will have option to invest altcoins and bitcoins are still the same because they are both cryptocurrency . what alts can do btc can can also do ( vice versa ) but yes i agree that bitcoin dominance will be reduced because people can now have the option to choose from a wide variety of alts aside from bitcoin . however , not all alts are worth it because majority of them are only a clone of other existing ones which means they dont have a real purpose and might be dangerous if you invest and hodl them . Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: reality18 on September 23, 2018, 02:03:59 AM How can too many altcoins pose a threat to Bitcoin. Altcoins are on the market to fulfil the same general goal of Bitcoin which intends to introduce Blockchain to the people and how well it can be utilized to bring more meaning to lives. Altcoins only buttress Bitcoin and do not kill it.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: lornadane on September 23, 2018, 02:40:10 AM No, it won't possible. Everybody must honor the King! Bitcoin is the king and the crypto market leader, so 1700 plus altcoin or if more will come, total altcoin's volume can't be equal to the Bitcoin. Because lots of people don't buy altcoins, they only convert their coins to the bitcoin. If bitcoin transaction speed and cost will improve then 70% of people will move to the bitcoin. So, Altcoin's can't be a threat to bitcoin's existence.
Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: zolfa on September 23, 2018, 02:56:30 AM New altcoins will not affect the value of bitcoin, in general, new altcoins will only create crypto market existence always survive. bitcoin has a high popularity, even today some investors don't trust ICO, and they better choose to keep their assets in bitcoin.
in the future, not all altcoins can be used for payments, only a few altcoins have good progress that will be accepted, bitcoin will master every transaction, and some altcoins that are not used for payment will be crypto trading assets or for investments. There are many facts that altcoin only runs a few moments and then disappears, but not with bitcoin. Since its inception until now he is still there and circulating. It's funny that you are promoting an altcoin and then saying that is rubbish. If you really believe so then you should not promote an altcoin instead. As for OPs question, I don't think too many altcoins is a threat to bitcoin because as long as there are people who believes in bitcoin's existence and use it for investment or for currency then the demand would always be there. Sooner or later, those altcoins that are use for its actual use case would continue to exist while those that are just existing for trading would be gone. In the short term, too many Altcoins but of low quality will get people under bad impression of crypto ingeneral. But in the long term, I think Bitcoin, with its reliability, won't be surpassed by these current Altcoins.

It contributes to price volatility, right? But at the same time, it helps bring out the best in cryptocurrency (with all these coins trying to outdo each other) In the end, we could have a cryptocurrency that combines all their best feature. What do you think?

A pro would be the market drawing attention, and this means more people will become aware of crypto. A con would be all these altcoins contributing to bitcoin’s volatility. However, analysts predict that only one crypto will be used in the future, especially when everything goes digital. We’ll just have to wait and see which crypto will it be.

Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: OpenCryptoSystem on September 27, 2018, 09:01:42 AM We must undestood what is going on on the crypto market before we panic or make conclusion. The market is biggest then ever before. There is so many on going ico-s so the ico sellers are the biggest btc and eth sellers on the market. As we see the there must be very high demand of buy orders for btc, and eth...offcourse if the buy order demand is higher then sell then the price should go high... but its not like this now? The reason for this is coz the ico tokens sellers selling their btc and eth for cash. Now the ico token sellers are the ones who got a lot cash. Soon they will place the large buy order the price of btc and eth will go about back to 20000$ now many of you feel happy about it you are going to sell your coins. So you will make profit...then the market will drop down around 10000$ ' then the ico token sellers will buy btc and eth again. So the price of btc and eth will go highest. Im not sure about the tokens or many altcoins... but i know the main coins like btc eth ltc will be strong. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: Rony24h7 on September 27, 2018, 05:05:57 PM I think that Bitcoin has, in the mean while, gained traders' confidence. Therefore, it is though to threaten Bitcoin's existence while it has polished up the market of digital decentralized payment system. The least effect that too many Altcoins can do is to denigrate the market coverage of Bitcoin for a certain period, but Bitcoin won't take a long to recover its market coverage.
Although too many Altcoins cannot become a threat to Bitcoin, it scams are a greater threat while the more there are scams in Bitcoin, the more traders will lose their confidence on Bitcoin. Therefore, it should be under shield to reduce scams and strengthen its market coverage. Taking steps to reduce the number of scams will popularize Bitcoin in a great extent. So, Bitcoin's future depends on the reduction of the number of scams that are causing people lose their confidence on Bitcoin. I agree that there is no new crypto can beat bitcoin, and I don't think that the altcoin can become a threat to bitcoin because the altcoin is followed what bitcoin did. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: bitbunnny on October 02, 2018, 08:57:09 AM Altcoins are not threat to Bitcoin. In fact you can look at them as a healty competition.
It's true that market is very divided and new coins appear all the time, many of them tending to take Bitcoin's place but that is not going to happen because only few altcoins are actually worth mentioning. So the affect of altcoins on Bitcoin in negative sense is actually zero. Title: Re: Can too many Altcoin's can become a threat to bitcoin's existence Post by: SilverCup08 on October 02, 2018, 09:28:01 AM No, I don't think so at this point. It will be hard to over take the position of bitcoin in the current time unless something comes out in the future that is totally flawless meaning, there will be unlimited supply in mining, a lot safer even if you lose your password, and probably run by AIs but that's not gonna happen until perhaps decades from no so for now, BTC will remain on its position.

A lot of folks are investing a fortune in this Shit coins, monies that are supposed to swell Bitcoin market capitalization. But because investors wants crazy returns on their investment, they rather invest in this new coins which are mostly scams. The Devs will cash out eventually, thus crashing the market.

When Bitcoin started a strong rally, many Altcoin fell, as investors jumped on Bitcoin and vice versa. This is systematic because most of the trading platforms require Bitcoin to trade rather than legal currencies. Also, when Bitcoin prices drop or increase compared to legal fees, all Altcoin also increases or decreases. Because the Altcoin price is based on the Bitcoin rate, not the exchange rate with legal fees. The value of an Altcoin compared to a certain currency is the value of Altcoin compared to Bitcoin, followed by the Bitcoin price when compared to the legal currency. Thus, Bitcoin has a very strong influence on market prices. If the price of bitcoin increases then altcoins price also increase. So we can say that bitcoin is life for all altcoins if bitcoin dies then all altcoins will die. The competition still exists, this can be seen in the ever-changing list of crypto currencies, it's just that bitcoin still has the highest volume as the most expensive coin at the moment. There were altcoins that were more expensive before, but they were eventually displaced by sentiment with a low purchase volume, eventually falling by shifting the concentration of the holder.
