Ethereum 2.0 (https://redenom.com/info/news/ethereum-2-0/) is coming soon, and it could increase by a thousand fold the Ethereum network’s capacity to process transactions.
Vitalik Buterin, the cofounder of Ethereum who represents the world’s second-largest blockchain, has shared in Prague this week, the new upgrade formerly known as Ethereum 2.0, called  Serenity, and has  promised to make the network faster, more secure, less energy-intensive, and capable of handling thousands of transactions per second.
At the annual Ethereum developer conference in Devcon, Buterin reported the twisting path that efforts to upgrade the network have taken. Buterin and his coworkers were forced to recalibrate their timeline for development, as they got delayed with distractions like the infamous DAO (https://redenom.com/info/news/what-is-dao/) hack, which led to a network split that Buterin compared in his talk to the Hindenburg disaster. They also found themselves pursuing overly complicated dead ends such as “super-quadratic sharding.”
According to Buterin Serenity will see Ethereum finally switch from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, a model in which people and organizations holding ether will “stake” their own coins in order to maintain the network, and will earn block rewards for doing so. In 2018, Ethereum’s core developers decided to abandon the half-measures of the hybrid model they had been working on and instead set out on a path that would initially take longer, but would deliver “a proof-of-stake and sharded blockchain with the properties that we’re looking for,” said Buterin.
Serenity won’t be the final product of Ethereum developers (https://redenom.com/info/news/blockchain-engineers-are-on-demand/). Issues of transaction fees and governance will remain, said Buterin. Along with other technical improvements, he and other core developers have already begun mapping out future tweaks to the proof-of-stake model.

I look forward to having the integration done and the practical effect on the Ethereum blockchain. Eth has done terrible this year so far. If this upgrade pulls through then hopefully we should experience a spike.

I think the big question about Serenity is whether Ethereum can still be considered a decentralized cryptocurrencie at this stage. Other projects that use PoS only are still extremely centralized. Some with many powers for who owns enough coins. As is the case with EOS and NEO.

If they do, most of these other platforms will be irrelevant and will disappear. Either way we will have a bull run since many are trying to accumulate as much as they can while the price is so low.

I wonder how this news will affect the price of the ETH, I think it will extend its submission and at the end of the year we will see price ETH not $ 1000 is good if it will be $ 100!

I guess the whales and big players will be the ones who will do that. They will be incentivized to buy large amounts of ETH and keep/stake them to get the rewards. People who buy small amounts will prefer to sell at a higher price than stake, so those big players will keep buying more. Surely there will be a large concentration of coins in few hands.

I know that it was postponed to the first quarter of 2019. It will be a great improvement for Ethereum.

The release is not really a guarantee that the price of ether will rise. I did Ethereum limited campaign. Is that not linked to ether too? Whatever is causing the fall, once it is rectified with or without an additional release, ether ill bounce bank. I really hope it does because it has really affected so much.

Increasing transaction speed a thousand times is a good move, of course, but the price of a coin is what interests you. Investors there even clap, maybe the price will jump later, we wait.

i am very excited to see how this fork of ethereum is going to be like and what new issues it is going to introduce while trying to solve the major issues it already has. but at the same time i have no faith in their developing anymore after years of promising a switch to PoS but only acting on it as the last resort for a pump when the dumping happened!

Still announcement and is not implemented yet, what do you expect?. However the main purpose of this new technology implementation is to improve the overall ability of the network, if the price goes up aswell, consider that as additional bonus.

i think some things can not be saved. and in case of ethereum it has a bad history that it can not wipe away. even with a fork and change of how network works it may not be the solution that everyone thinks it is.
in my opinion Ethereum 2.0 should be a brand new platform that is built from scratch while learning from big mistakes that Ethereum made.

As for me, this is great news.  Ethereum 2.0, it's like a second wind, at a marathon.  Increasing the speed of transactions will positively affect the coin.  Time will tell.

Will this Ethereum 2.0 be the second life to this cryptocurrency or will the market just be disappointed again because the response to it is falling short to the general expectation making Ethereum a victim of its own update? I think people need to forget Ethereum hitting $1000 again because I don't see how a POS project would be so highly valuable, we all have a quantitative data to price value Bitcoin, what then would be used to value Ethereum and remember the good thing in this space is that one can easily fork a chain and dilute the value on it. If Vitalik's focus is now on the ETH 2.0, I am just curious in the sense that, what will happen to the current status of ETH 1.0? How about the investors of ETH, the price is so much decreased in this months, still no sign of recovery. But if this will actually happen, as Buterin's said, "Destroying jobs, Creating a better ones" = totally means the improvement of ETH for the investors and its users.

I, after all the negative information that sounded so far in the media about ethereum, was very pleased to hear the opinion and predictions of Vitalik Buterin regarding the ethereum of his future.

Ethereum 2.0 will be a great step forward if it comes to fruition soon and its needed from an ETH point of view, there are many new coins that are looking to usurp ETH with faster, cheaper, more secure blockchains, but as of yet none of them are established, ETH 2.0 could make all of them irrelevant.

Heh. I have completely different thoughts in my head. On the one hand, a new wave of hype can begin, and behind it come new hamsters. On the other hand, I am afraid that large investors have already left the market. I wonder what will happen.

Either way it can't be a bad thing, if large investors have left the market this could be a good way of getting them to return to the market, ETH is proven but not yet efficient enough for what a lot of large companies need, if they can change that then suddenly it looks a much more appealing investment.

It is good to know ethereum still keep developing its blockchain network because nowadays eth price is on its very bottom. In this red market, i think ethereum will be hard to recover unless they developed to a better coin.

I am excited for this to happen but one question comes to my mind when I read this. What will happen to Ethereum if Ethereum 2.0 launched?. We are eagerly waiting for it. This present Ethereum is obsolete and I don't think it can fully compete again with new generation blockchain platforms. Ethereum 2.0 is highly needed if the platform don't want to lose its position and reputation in the industry.
