The sixth season of ISL is scheduled to begin today. Once after this league in India there is big rise in the support for football. Earlier it was only cricket, now people have begun to give importance to football and other games. Ten teams are into this league. Today on the very first match Kerala Blasters FC takes against the two time champion Atletico De Kolkata.

Kerala Blasters had a horrible season last year. They finished at the 9th place (just above the bottom ranked Chennaiyin). I read reports about their fans taking out boycott campaigns. And what was most ironic about their performance was the fact that they lost many matches after leading in the first half. Hopefully this season they will be able to perform better under the new coach (Eelco Schattorie).

Last time, it was Sunil Chettri's Bangalore FC which won the tournament and this time also they have the maximum chances. BFC looks like the most balanced team, with players such as Erik Paartalu, Rahul Bheke, Udanta Singh and Thongkhosiem Haokip. Their goalkeeper is also very good (Gurpreet Singh Sandhu). ATK also have their chances, as they have some good players like Pronay Halder and Anas Edathodika.

Out of the 29  states in India, people in Kerala, Goa, West bengal and the north east are crazy about Football. This league has surely generated a lot of fans and has also give opportunity to budding football player. But, it is a long way to go. This season my favourite team is again Banglore. I hope they win this time.

Because this is a local Indian competition, not everyone knows about it. Unless people are from India itself, I myself do not know the team that participated in this competition. and when it will begin.

If its an purely an Indian tournament with no international teams and players, then it will be better to move this thread in the local Indian community.

You are right there. In India, there are four regions which are known as the powerhouses of football. They are West Bengal, Goa, Kerala and the North-east India. More than 90% of the football players who have represented India have come from these regions. Earlier, West Bengal used to dominate, but now the popularity of cricket has overtaken that of football in that state. The same can be said about Kerala and Goa as well. There is still a lot of fan following for football and tens of thousands attend local games. But in most cases, the attendance is made up of the middle-aged individuals, as the youth have shifted to cricket. Northeast India is the only region where football remains as the most popular sport.

I think if Pakistan had a good Football team, then things would have been quite different for football in India. For example, you will still watch India vs Pakistan Hockey match, if you do not have an interest in Hockey  ;D ;D ;D

I don't know. In football, clubs are more important than the international sides. International matches happen only once in a while, and only a few tournaments such as the World Cup and the Asian cup are important. On the other hand, each of the clubs play 50+ matches in a given year and their fan following is huge. Clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid have hundreds of millions of fans all over the globe. And this is also one of the reasons why football is not very big in India. Most of the Indians are interested in international matches, and such matches are rare with football.

India has some of the oldest football clubs in the wold. Clubs such as Mohun Bagan A.C. and Churchill Brothers S.C. boast  of millions of fans. But somehow they have failed to catch the attention of the mainstream Indian. However the ISL is changing this situation. With the involvement of famous foreign players, corporate giants and sports broadcasters, ISL has managed to become mainstream in India. And hopefully, with that we'll be witnessing a rise in popularity for football in India.

Anyone watched today's match between FC Goa vs Chennaiyin FC? It turned out to be a very one sided match, with FCG winning 3-0. Chennaiyin finished at the rock bottom last year. And this year also, the prospects for them looks dull. They don't have any superstars such as Sunil Chhetri (of BFC) or Seiminlen Doungel (of FCG). For sure Thoi Singh and Jerry Lalrinzuala are good players, but they are unable to single-handedly lead their team to a win.

Today the match was completely on the side of Bengaluru FC. Finally by the extra time Goa made a goal and equalled. Goa got opportunity more than Bengaluru FC, but by the 62nd minute the goal made by Udanta Singh increased the pressure upon Goa. The goal of the final minutes have kept Goa on the top of the points table. Tomorrow it is Jamshedpur vs Hyderabad. Already Jamshedpur has made a win while Hyderabad hasn't started its winning.

BFC should have won this game, but they conceded a goal just a few seconds before the close of play. Ferrán Corominas scored from a penalty, and neutralized Udanta's strike in the 62nd match. Had they been a bit more careful, then BFC should have got 3 points instead of 1. Now FCG is at the top of the table with 4 points, and BFC is trailing them with just 2. BTW, the team selection was baffling from FCG. They had dropped Jackichand Singh for the match (although he was brought in as a substitute in the second half).

Today it was a big winning match for Odisha. From the beginning Odisha dominated the game making 4 goals. Each and every goal is well placed and the players assisted it perfect to the goal. Somehow with the penalty and the final minute goal Mumbai City managed to make 2 goals.

Odisha was surprisingly able to win the match. Though they had not won any two matches before, and Odisha could win for the first time and the victory they got at Mumbai City home.

Today we have the match between Hyderabad FC and Kerala Blasters FC. These two teams are lying at the bottom half of the points table, with Kerala Blasters having 3 points form 2 games and Hyderabad yet to open their score after the same number of matches. Hyderabad went down by a heavy margin in their first match this season (5-0 against Atlético de Kolkata).

How is football in India? It is nice to hear about India is having a league for football.

I know India have die hard fans for cricket and hokey and for some other sport like kabadi but for football and basketball you may not find big fan-base hence viewership for such game is not profitable for board/stadium/broadcasting which again leads to less sponsors for such games. After IPL, India is trying to promote football, tennis but not sure about final results in terms of reaching people and making them interested.

I am originally from northeast India and here football is much more popular when compared to cricket. The match got changed with a penalty shot that gave Hyderabad the first goal at the 54th minute equalling with Kerala blasters. That is understandable, because India has never managed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. They had a chance of participating in the 1950 World Cup, but the administrative body decided against sending a team. As of now, India is ranked 103rd globally and 18th within the Asian continent. But ever since the ISL started, there have been a boost in the popularity of football in the country.

Yesterday there was an upset by Hyderabad FC over Kerala Blasters FC. The Blasters were leading 1-0 by half time (thanks to a goal by Rahul KP). But Hyderabad came back strongly to win the match 2-1. Marko Stankovic and Marcelinho scored the goals for Hyderabad. The first one came from a penalty (resulted from a foul by Mouhamadou Gning), and the second one was from a free kick. 

India is a country standing second in population, and it has got a big fan base for cricket. Now this has been getting diversified with more and more games getting importance with different leagues conducted every year.

In today's match from the beginning to the end there was good game being played by both team players. In today's match the role of the goal keepers were very big, finally the game ended in a draw without any single goal played by both the teams.

I don't know what is happening with Bengaluru FC. Yesterday, they had their 3rd consecutive draw, and that too a goalless one. All this efforts were to make India get stronger in the sports field. China with the increased population stands high in all sports. Think of the Olympics, India will be in the last. China and India has the close population count. As a beginning now India is pushing thyself hard to secure good place in games other than cricket.

Hyderabad FC wasted a very good chance to get some points yesterday, when they conceded a penalty with around four minutes remaining for the end of the match (Shankar Sampingiraj made handball). Maximiliano Barreiro of NorthEast United FC made no mistake and NEUFC won the match 1-0. Unsurprisingly, Hyderabad FC are at the bottom of the table with just 3 points from 4 matches. 


The problem is that in India we like to watch the games on TV, but the actual physical participation is very low. One or two decades back, it was very common to see kids playing cricket and football in the small grounds. But nowadays it is very rare to see something like that, as the majority have got addicted to social media and android games such as PUBG.

FC Goa is now leading the table after they won today's match in a comprehensive manner against the Mumbai City FC. Now both NEUFC and FCG have 8 points each (from 4 matches) followed by Jamshedpur with 7 points from 3. Jamshedpur is facing ATK on Saturday and if they win the match then they'll top the table. Well said, these days it is hard to see kids playing on the streets and play grounds. The change happened in a very short time period when the gaming industry made its strong entry into India. Now I see kids sitting in groups and playing PUBG and few other games that are based on the player against player concept. This needs to change, earlier parents stopped them from playing on grounds and now they're forcing to go to the ground and play.

Match between Kerala Blasters FC and Odisha Football Club is underway, and this one is very crucial for both the teams. KBFC have lost two of their last three matches. They need to win this one to get to the top half of the table. Initial 10 minutes indicate dominance by the Kerala players, with Odisha not getting much of possession. But Kerala Blasters always have problems in converting possession and passes to actual goals.

Today's match has come to an end with first three goals of the match coming from penalty and last goal at the additional time of the match. Winning the match 3-1 has made ATK top the points table. If they get those three points, then they can get to the 4th position. The 5th round will start on 23rd November, and in the opening game Bangalore will be taking on Kerala Blasters.

Bengaluru managed to make a win against Chennai 3 - 1, and this has moved them reach the fifth position on the table. It was Chennai who have won two titles in the past seasons now at the low bottom of the table. Every match they're performing well, but unable to reach the ball into the post. I believe this time Chennai isn't anymore into the top 4.

Chennaiyin FC is now regarded one of the weakest teams in the tournament. It is true that they were the past champions. But recently they lost their star players and have been struggling. So it is not very surprising to find them at the bottom of the points table. On top of that, players such as Anirudh Thapa, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Jerry Lalrinzuala are not in the best form right now.

Yes, most of the star players of Chennai is missing in this league. There is almost two weeks gap, and the next set of matches were scheduled begin by 23/11/2020. Expect Chennai to come back strong by that time. John Gregory being an able player as the coach tries hard to make the team get back to the winning form. Hope the success begins by this session of the league as players are getting some time to prepare themselves.

I have seen these odds in sports book but i have no idea about the quality of the matches and i would like to know where i can know about this tournament and whether i am able to watch it online just to see how the tournament is conducted, some of the odds looks attractive and since you started this topic i would like to know the details of this tournament.

Their next match is against Hyderabad (25th November). They are not among the strongest teams out there, so I would say that Chennaiyin will be having a very good opportunity at their hand to get 3 points. Three days later, they will take on Odisha. Right now they are at the rock bottom of the points table, with just 1 point from four matches.

The second set of matches have begun. From the beginning of the match it looked like a game of Chennai, and Hyderabad at any point didn't gave up. They showed their game. This made the extra time to be more interesting and everything changed with continuous goals. First Chennai started it, followed by Hyderabad and got ended with the second goal for Chennai. With this game ended with a win for Chennai 2-1

It was an unbelievable match, with three goals being scored during the injury time. The scores were tied 0-0 after the allotted 90 minutes, but André Schembri scored during the 2nd minute of the injury time. There was a lax in concentration from the Chennaiyin FC players, and this allowed Matthew Kilgallon of the Hyderabad FC to equalize. But then miraculously Nerijus Valskis scored the second goal for Chennaiyin to put them ahead and now Hyderabad FC is at the bottom of the points table.

And tomorrow it is going to be NorthEast United FC vs Mumbai City. NorthEast United is having 8 points now and if they win the match, then they can also top the table with 11 points.

Yesterday's FC Goa vs Jamshedpur match was full of surprises. Ahmed Jahouh of FC Goa earned a second Yellow card in the same match was was sent out. Now Jamshedpur FC is at the second position with 10 points from 5 matches, but NorthEast United can still overtake them if they win today's match against Mumbai City.

The 5th round is over and as of now ATK and Jamshedpur with 10 points each are leading the table. The NorthEast United FC had a golden chance of topping the table, but they couldn't win the match against Mumbai City despite scoring the first goal. They conceded two goals in the first half, followed by a lacklustre performance in the second half.

Bengaluru FC wasted a golden opportunity to top the table, when they conceded a goal in the second half (in the injury time) against a 10-man Hyderabad. Bengaluru FC had an unbelievable start in the match, with Sunil Chhetri scoring in the second minute taking advantage of the weak clearance by the opposition goalie (Kamaljit Singh). They dominated the match, with 65% possession, but failed to increase their lead. They were desperate to score more goals and in the end a lapse of concentration allowed the Hyderabad FC to level up.

The league is getting more global support, and now if you watch a match can understand how people have been giving importance to football among the cricket dominant country. The past weeks matches followed by this week was truly awesome and each minute it increases the heartbeat if we're supporting any one of the team. The past six matches have ended in a draw, and no match ended without a goal.

A large number of overseas players are participating in the Indian Super League and therefore you can expect a lot of interest from the global audience. And that's what makes ISL different from the national league (I-league). In the I-league also you can find a lot of foreign players, but these are mostly Nigerians and other Africans, who may be unknown even in their home nations.

I like the way how India has taken the development process for football purposes. not only football but also various types of sports are getting concern to the Indian Government, It's a praiseworthy job When you have a lot of population and a lot of well established corporate houses who are ready to patronize and give financial support to the specific game, I am fond of Football so I usually look for some football leagues around the world, so I think after China, India also will shine in this biggest game of the world.

Despite all the government support and popularity of the game, China still struggle to qualify for the football world cup (they didn't managed to do so for the 2018 world cup). India fares even worse. They are not even ranked among the top 100 teams as per the latest FIFA rankings. Even small nations such as Iceland are ranked much higher than India.

This is true, everything won't happen perfect. Earlier it was all money that made players. Now through these leagues slowly more players are getting identified. This way we can experience change, maybe if things have taken place perfect long ago now we could've seen India to be qualified. When it comes to China the story is different if one is fond of some game from the age of five they start to give regular practice and make them professional sportsman, yet they aren't able to reach the world cup shows that they lack something.

The main problem with India is that it is a cricket mad nation, and that leaves very little room for the other sports. On top of that, sports is not a compulsory activity in the schools and the colleges. Compared to the school and college students from the other countries, those in India engage themselves in very little physical activity. During the spare time, they are more likely to play PUBG rather than playing some real sports. This situation needs to change and the government needs to encourage physical activity in the schools and colleges.

Agreed, the present generation is much addicted to PUBG and other similar games. One of my friend who is an IT employee goes to office comes back and starts to spend time on PUBG. Also he is newly married, this regular spending on PUBG was very severe and he didn't spend time with his wife. Now he can understand his situation, but unable to come out and spend time with his wife. Such a level of addiction is there, and this needs to change. Some social issues of child rape, molestation are also reason for people not allowing children to outdoor games.

Yesterday, Kerala Blasters wasted yet another chance to get 3 points. Raphael Messi Bouli had scored for Kerala Blasters in the 75th minute, but they allowed Amine Chermiti to equalize for the Mumbai City FC after just two minutes (77th). This has become a regular occurrence for the Kerala Blasters FC. They have either lost or drawn so many of their matches, in which they took an early lead. And even the fans are frustrated with this and I heard that some of the fans are boycotting the matches.

^^^ It is not very surprising. Kerala is an exception when compared to the other states, due to the popularity of football in that region (especially in the Northern half of Kerala). However, historically the teams from Kerala have fared very poorly in the national competitions (be it the ISL, or the i-League). The Blasters are now 8th in the points table and I would be surprised if the fans still support them.

Throughout the state there is big support for Football. The same can be seen on their matches. Particularly on the matches played on home ground same as the name the fans used to blast the ground with different ways of support and slogans. Though there performance isn't to the level expected fans will continue to support. As in the quote every match gives an early happiness to the fans ans ends with a sadness as the first goal will be Kerala Blaster's and the winning goal will be the opponent's.

A few days back, I heard that the crowd attendance at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Cochin for one of their matches was only around 8,000 (which is much below the original occupancy), and at the same time more than 20,000 people attended a match that involved another local club (Gokulam Kerala F.C., which plays in the i-league) in Calicut. So clearly the fans are losing their interest with Blasters.

Kerala has given a few big names to Indian football, such as IM Vijayan, VP Sathyan, CV Pappachan and even now the national team has a number of players from this region (C. K. Vineeth, Anas Edathodika and Sahal Abdul Samad to name a few). The problem is that they are not being able to convert the popularity and enthusiasm in to results.

Agreed, right now Kerala ans North East United were the two teams that has got pure soccer fans support. Both the regions have got good players and the support can be experienced during their matches. As in tbe above quote slowly things have changed which is out of the poor game. North East United stands strong to be on tbe top four, but the last game wasn't to the level losing 3-0 against ATK.

The player draft of the ISL doesn't give much consideration to the states from where the players originally comes from. It just distributes the players across all the franchises, without bothering about their attachment to that particular club. As a result, we have more players from the Northeast playing for the Chennaiyin FC than the Northeast United FC. The same can be said about the Kerala Blasters FC as well. And the team composition changes every two years or so. The fans don't have a star player from their state who they can support.

Now all the teams have completed 7 matches each, and as expected the strongest two teams are on top (ATK and Bengaluru FC). At the bottom we have the three weakest teams - Kerala Blasters FC, Chennaiyin FC and Hyderabad FC. During their last match, Chennaiyin had a very good chance of getting 3 points, but they allowed Jamshedpur to equalize with just 1 minute to spare. 

This is what happening with Chennai over the last two matches. When it comes to Kerala Blasters, the same. In most matches kerala makes the first goal and further their game goes down. This way they've lost few, else could've gone little above in the points table. Kerala lost its fans support at some point, as there is continuous disappointment at the end.

I remember that during last year there was a call by their fans to boycott home matches of Kerala Blasters FC. We can't blame them, as the team ended up losing several matches which they would have won. The tickets don't come cheap and the fans were left high and dry after their repeated failures. Even during the first phase of this edition, the fan response was very much muted. And now they are becoming even less interested in the matches of their team, as there is no improvement in the performance.

Odisha continues to play good trying to be one among the top four teams. As of now it is really hard to achieve as Odisha has played eight matches and stands at the sixth position. By now remaining teams have played seven matches. This time Odisha from the first half kept its lead, Hyderabad on the other side tried the best to move up from the last position. Somehow managed to score two goals, bit they weren't able to draw the match.

The match between Chennai and North East United has got postponed without further announcement of the match date. The political tension out of a new bill that's been passed in the upper and lower house of the parliament is the reason for the same. The citizens bill has led to the protest, compared to remaining states of the country Assam people seems to be affected big. This is why the protest is getting stronger with time. The ruling government just goes with their own plans without knowing the needs of the people.

I don't think that you can really blame the government. The Citizenship Amendment Bill was there in the BJP manifesto and they got more than 50% vote in Assam. Obviously the fringe elements and illegal Bangladeshis are going to protest, but the election results from the past 5-6 years prove that the vast majority of the citizens are in favor of the CAB. Also, last time the party of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants (AIUDF) had contested the elections after forming an alliance with the main opposition Congress party. Even then, they were unable to win a good number of seats.

First half of the match went in a much smooth manner without any goals in the first half. Second half has begun with continuous goals from Goa and ATK, and within the first twenty minutes of the second half three goals were played. Goa on its home ground with good support leads the match with two goals. With today's win Goa has topped the points table moving ATK to the second position.

For now FC Goa will top the table with 15 points from 8 matches. But we have the Bengaluru FC vs Mumbai City match tomorrow, and in case the former wins the match then they'll top the table with 16 points. In case they loses the match, or it ends in a draw then FC Goa will remain at the top. BTW, the match between Northeast United FC and Chennaiyin FC was postponed due to the rioting in Assam.

Bengaluru FC has another chance to progress to the top, if they can beat Mumbai City FC today. Sunil Chhetri and Udanta Singh seems to be in good form for BFC, and they have managed to leave behind the poor performances during the first 2-3 matches this season. The defense is also looking quite strong, with Rahul Bheke and Harmanjot Singh Khabra neutralizing many of the attacks from the opponents. BFC will be having the home advantage, as the match will take place at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru this time played good, but the same isn't enough to defeat Mumbai. From the beginning of the match it was Mumbai who kept the lead, but the goal from Bengaluru players Grgic kept the scores leveled. Once again the lead was taken by Mumbai with its second goal. By the end of the second half Chetri managed to take a goal and leveled the match. Mumbai was in a never give up state and placed the goal in the additional time provided winning 3-2

The change in the points table continues, and now it is Bengaluru which has reached the top position. The league is getting more and more interesting with each game making big change in the table. Probably this will continue till the end of the league as every team is with points that are very close to each other. In today's match there will be big fire as both teams try to make some wins for a lead in the points table.

The good news is that Bengaluru FC is still at top of the table, despite losing to Mumbai City FC. Just three days after they lost a close match to the Mumbai City, the BFC destroyed NorthEast United FC 2-0 and gained 3 points from that match. And for the first time so far in this season, the NEUFC has dropped to the bottom half of the points table. They are at the 6th position, and the only four teams (Odisha, Kerala Blasters, Chennaiyin and Hyderabad) are having less points than them.

With a win against Kerala Blasters 3-1 Chennai has moved to the 8th position. From the beginning the match was full of fire as expected. In the beginning Kerala played a goal soon after Chennai made its first goal. If you go through the match statistics it was Kerala the winner, but Chennai making three goals within the first half gave them play comfortable throughout the match.

Kerala Blasters fans will be really disappointed. Now they are 9th in the points table, with just 7 points from 9 matches. So far in this season, they have won just one of their matches. Even Chennaiyin FC have moved ahead of the Blasters in the points table. We may witness another boycott campaign by the fans, who may refuse to attend the home matches of Kerala Blasters. I don't have much hope for the Blasters now, given that their next match is against a strong side (North East United FC).

In today's game it should've been a win for Hyderabad, made two goals that are perfectly timed header from Bobo. What Kamal did is really wrong, he didn't performed the clearance in the right way and the same ball is simply chipped by Roy Krishna making it a goal and leveling 2-2. In my view the wrong decision from referee on penalties has made Hyderabad end the match with a draw which is supposed to be a win.

Well... hard luck for Hyderabad. A win might have helped them to avoid the humiliation of being the bottom ranked side. But as of now, they have just 5 points from 9 matches and will remain at the bottom of the points table. BTW, does anyone has any information regarding the NorthEast United FC vs Chennaiyin FC match, which was postponed? The situation in NE is still not normalized and I am afraid that the match will be called off and both the teams will be forced to share the points.

There is no schedule for the match. As there is more time for the league to get the end scheduling might have been delayed. There is very less chances for the match to get called off. If this was to be called off, information might have been shared on day of the match itself. Today's match it was Goa who won 3-0 against Odisha and topped the table once again. Odisha played, but weren't able to make a goal till the end.

The 9th round is complete now and Goa is on top with 18 points from 9 matches. FC Goa is on a winning spree with three wins from the last three matches. BFC and ATK are close behind with 16 and 15 points respectively. The next match on the Christmas day (25th December) is going to be an exciting one, in which BFC will take on ATK (the 2nd and 3rd placed teams right now). A win is a must for these teams, if they want to topple FCG from the top of the table. For ATK, the Fijian player Roy Krishna has scored 8 goals so far in this season.

^^^^ BFC needs to win that match against ATK. They are the current champions and they need to cement their place at the top of the table. ATK is a shadow of their former self, and with players such as Sunil Chhetri and Rahul Bheke, BFC has an advantage over their rivals from Kolkata. BTW, as per the available stats, the Kerala Blasters still have the maximum crows attendance among all the teams, with a mean attendance of 23,755.

From the beginning the match was in the hands of the GOA team, and this gave Goa three goals by the end of first half. By the time Chennai hasn't made any single goal. The second half was very interesting as Chennai made a quick comeback taking two goals, but one goal in the second half made Goa increase the goal to 4. After hard try chennai managed to reach 3 goals by the end.

I though that it would be a cakewalk for FC Goa. They were ahead by 3-0 after the first half. However, Chennaiyin fought really hard to make it 3-2. Then lack of concentration by the Chennaiyin defenders allowed FCG to increase the lead to 4-2. Now FCG is comfortably topping the table with 21 points, with ATK second at 18 points. Bengaluru FC lost their last match against ATK, and they are at 3rd place with 16.

In today's match it was Odisha that kept the lead from the beginning of the match. The goals at 28th minute by Aridane made Odisha lead the game, but Jamshedpur tried hard and got a penalty shoot out. This gave Jamshedpur a goal by the 38th minute. Once again during the additional time of the first half once again Aridane made a goal. By this Odisha leads with two goals by the first half. This continued throughout the game, and by the end of the second half the result was the same as the end of first half. Odisha wins 2-1 against Jamshedpur.

Good comeback by Odisha, after their devastating loss to Goa last week. For Jamshedpur, this was an opportunity to level up with Bengaluru FC. Now they will remain at the 4th spot, with 3 points separating them from the BFC. BTW, the NorthEast United FC has a good opportunity to move up the table, when they face Kerala Blasters today. The Blasters are currently going through a rough patch (8-game win less streak) and NEUFC will be targeting for the full three points from this match.

It was Mumbai winning against Hyderabad out of their low effort play. Going through the statistics one can know the play progress between both the teams. Hyderabad had the 62% of ball possession, but they were able to make only one goal. Hyderabad have got seven corners, while Mumbai had got only one corner. This means there is need of luck even when we play good.

Sarthak Golui of Mumbai City got a second yellow card in the 67th minute (challenge against Marcelinho Leite Pereira) and was sent off. So I would expect the opponents to dominate the possession after that. But it is amazing that even with 10 players, Mumbai City managed to score the second goal (in the 78th minute, through the Senegalese import Modou Sougou). Hyderabad remains at the last position in the points table, and they are in for another horrible season in the Indian Super League.

Tomorrow we have the match between the top ranked FC Goa and the 3rd placed Bengaluru FC. Even if Bengaluru wins this game, they will fail to top the table, as they have only 16 points compared to 21 for FCG. Right now, Goa seems to be comfortably ahead of all the other teams, with a 3 point difference separating them from the second placed ATK.

In the mentioned match between Bengaluru FC and Goa Chhetri has made Bengaluru win the match even though Goa managed to level the score after the first goal from Chhetri. Even after the win Goa stands the first position while Bengaluru have moved to the second position. Tomorrow's match is important because both were within the top four, wins will vary their positions on the points table.

Now ATK has edged out FC Goa from the no.1 position. The loss against BFC proved costly for Goa and now both ATK and FCG are having 21 points (ATK is at top thanks to a better goal difference). The catch here is that ATK managed to win their last match (against Mumbai City FC), while Goa lost theirs. Today we have a meaningless match between the two bottom placed teams (Kerala Blasters FC and Hyderabad FC). Hyderabad will be hoping to win the match and avoid the wooden spoon.

Continuously more and more changes were happening with the points table. Maybe in the end of the league we'll get to see one or two teams in the bottom of the table to enter the top four positions on the table. This is the first time in this league ATK marking its win against Mumbai. In all other matches ATK won the match and few ended in a draw.

Kerala Blasters have moved to the 7th position, after their win against Hyderabad FC yesterday. Normally it is the Kerala Blasters who lose the game after scoring the first goal. But yesterday, it was just the opposite. Hyderabad FC scored the first goal, with Bobô putting the visitors ahead on 14th minute. In return, the KBFC scored a total of 5 goals (Bartholomew Ogbeche -2, Vlatko Drobarov, Messi Bouli, and Seityasen Singh one each) to destroy the visitors. KBFC gained 3 points, as well as improved their goal difference.

I have noticed that the Northeast United FC is at the 8th place in the points table. But that is not due to their fault though. Two of the matches were postponed, due to the ongoing civil unrest in Assam. But even then, Chennaiyin FC are at the 9th position, having won only 2 of their 10 matches. NEUFC has won just two, but they have 5 draws to their name.

The teams on the top of the table is quite strong to defend any team in the bottom. Goa has defeated North East United 2-0 and Bengaluru defeated Jamshedpur 2-0 to keep the position strong on the points table. Today's match between Chennai and Hyderabad will be interesting, because if Chennai wins it moves few positions above on the points table.

Northeast United FC is now at the 9th position. I think that this is their worst ever performance. They never had this much bad ranking, since the start of the ISL. You can't really blame them though. Because of the unrest going on in Assam, some of their matches were postponed and it was very difficult for them to organize training sessions.

Odisha is getting stronger defeating Hyderabad which is in the bottom of the table. More and more changes have been taking place in the top order of the table. Now with this win Odisha getting into the top order of the table will boost their performance. In my view Goa and Bengaluru stands strong while the competence for the third and fourth position will be very tough.

Hyderabad FC managed to score during the very first minute (through Marcelinho), and I thought that they may get 3 points from this game. But they failed to keep the momentum going and conceded two goals later (both scored by Aridane Santana. To make matters worse, Dimple Bhagat got the second yellow card and was sent off. It is getting really depressing for Hyderabad FC. After 13 matches, they have just one win to their name. And this is a team which boasts of stars such as Nikhil Poojari, Marcelinho and Kamaljit Singh.

Hyderabad FC is looking pathetic. They just have 5 points from 13 matches, with just one win. Today we have the match between the 8th and 9th ranked sides (Chennaiyin FC and Northeast United FC). ROFLMAO.... It looks like the Kerala Blasters FC are back to their old ways. A few days back, they had defeated a very strong ATK 1-0. But this time, they lost to Jamshedpur FC, after taking the lead initially. The Blasters were leading after the 11th minute, thanks to a goal from Messi Bouli. Noe Acosta made it 1-1. The turning point came when Abdul Hakku of KBFC was shown a red card during the 50th minute. Even then, Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a goal and put the KBFC ahead by 2-1. But an own goal from the same Bartholomew Ogbeche made sure that KBFC gets zero points from this game.

The own goal too has taken place by the last minute of the match. If this has happened earlier they could've got time to try for a goal. Finally it's the bad luck of Kerala Blasters, because they're one of the much expected team for the ISL. In yesterday's match Bengaluru easily defeated Odisha and reached the first position on the table. If Odisha has won, it could've topped the table. Today it is a important match as a win of Chennai can take it within the four.

I am new to the Indian Super League and I never have played them mostly because I think or I have heard that the referees impact the games greatly,I have heard that the home team wins most of the time.However I am changing opinion about that after reading through the pages of this thread as no one is complaining about such thing.

It is a franchise league and all the matches are being telecast live through multiple channels. So it is not possible for the referees to act in a biased manner. If they do so, then the team owners would launch a complain against them and they'll never get to officiate another match. Till now, I haven't observed any such incidents in the matches that I have watched.

No match looked to be fixed or as a win through some cheats. Mistakes were common with referees, and in such a way there were few matches in which the wrong decision from the referee served to be the turning point of the match. The success of the tournament reflects through the increase of fan base every year. Another thing if it wasn't taking place perfectly now it might have not reached the sixth season.

I completely agree with your post, and I never found anything objectionable about the way the Indian Super League is being conducted. The league is attracting a lot of new fans and it has contributed significantly to the growth of football in India.

BTW, today we had the Hyderabad vs Mumbai City match, which ended in 1-1 draw. Hyderabad is looking hapless, with just 1 win from their 14 matches. I can't remember the last time when any of the ISL teams had such a bad tournament.

It is ATK that stays strong, and the competence for the first position is keeps going on between Goa and ATK. In between Bengaluru tries to make its entry. In my view looking upon the last few matches played by Chennai the progress is very good. I'm sure slowly Chennai will enter the top four of the points table soon. And tomorrow we have the match between Bengaluru FC and the bottom ranked Hyderabad FC. BFC needs to win this match, else they will be out of contention for the top slot. If I'm not wrong, the match played between Chennai and Kerala seems to be the biggest match of this league. In terms of the game statistics Kerala leads in each and everything, starting from the ball possession, passes, accuracy and in all other match elements. Yeah.. I watched the highlights. It was crazy, with 9 goals being scored in 90 minutes. This is the 3rd consecutive defeat for the Kerala Blasters and apart from Bartholomew Ogbeche, none of their players performed well during yesterday's match. On the other hand, the Chennaiyin FC performed as a team to demolish the Keralites in their turf. Rafael Crivellaro, Nerijus Valskis and Lallianzuala Chhangte were impressive. Chennaiyin are now 5th in the points table, and they have won all four out of their last matches.

I follow ISL results sometimes, because player from my country - Nerijus Valskis plays there. I see that he is top scorer now and it's really surprising. I'm happy for his performance, but fact that he scores so many goals shows that level of football in this league isn't very high. He only had better seasons playing in Lithuania and our league is really weak. He isn't always called for our national team - one of the worst teams in Europe :/.
But it's good to see football development here. Just year or two ago I didn't even know that football at professional level exist in India. It will took some time to reach high level. Who knows, maybe one day we will see India playing in World Cup...

Valskis is performing really well in this edition of the Indian Super League. His team (Chennaiyin FC) is regarded as one of the weakest in the league. But due to his performance they have now managed to get a position among the top half in the points table. He singlehandedly made the difference for Chennaiyin. Right now, he is the top scorer of the tournament, with 12 goals from 14 matches. Bartholomew Ogbeche is currently chasing him, with 11 goals from 15 matches. 

It's been long without any updates regarding the matches played between different teams. The league is getting to the end days with one match remaining for most of the teams. Chennai and North East United has got two more matches to play. However the next match between Mumbai and Chennai will be truly interesting, winning team will progress to the top four positions on the points table.

The top four teams were confirmed as there is only one match left. With one match left Chennai stands on the fourth position. So whether Chennai wins or loses isn't going to make a big change in the points table. If the previous match between Odisha and Kerala was won by Odisha now Chennai could've experienced pressure of winning the match to be on the top four.

What a game from Chennai. The team that was on the bottom of the table during the starting of the league finally entering the top four. Further on now it has taken the leader of the table Goa in its semi final. Winning against Goa 4-1 is really big and adds more confidence to play the upcoming games. Also each goal has been played by different players which shows the combined effort of the team.

The ISL 2020 has come to an end with ATK's win against Chennai 3-1. The win has made ATK claim their third title. Much expectation is over the Chennai team as it came from the bottom of the table to the top entering the final. Lets have the discussion continued by the next season of ISL.

The seventh season of Indian Super League is scheduled to start by the third week of November. This time eleven teams are into the league, and the game schedule isn't revealed now. The current format is really confusing. There are two teams from Kolkata now and ATK is now renamed as ATK Mohun Bagan. On top of that the second team from Kolkata (East Bengal) will be making their debut this season. Earlier they were planning to keep ISL separate from the I-league. But now teams from the I-league are migrating to the ISL.

11 sounds odd. They could have kept it as 10 or 12. But I don't agree with the suggestion that the number of teams should be increased to 16. I have been to India a lot many times, and unfortunately football is not very popular there. The talent pool is very limited, and in case if the number of teams are increased, then the quality may get diluted. IMO, 10-12 is a good number for now.

So the ISL 2020 will start tomorrow. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that there is not much coverage in the mainstream media (at least when compared to the hype which was generated during the recently concluded IPL). I can understand that football is not very popular in India apart form certain regions such as Northeast and Goa, but this is a major tournament with international players and I expected better coverage.

Now the league has started and the first match has taken place between Kerala Blasters and ATK Mohun Bagan. The match was hard fighting, and I find Kerala Blasters to be unlucky to make the win losing 0-1. Once again Roy Krishna has started his play and took ATK Mohun Bagan towards victory. The new team winning on its very first match will make their fans expect big on the upcoming games.

So far 8 matches have been completed, and ATK Mohun Bagan is on top with 6 points (2 wins from 2 matches). The other team from Kolkata (East Bengal FC) is languishing at the bottom of the points table. And once again, it is last years heroes such as Roy Krishna who are having the biggest impact. I am still not fully satisfied with the quality of the matches. They need to consider increasing the limit for foreign players from the current 6 to either 8 or 10.

The main objective of the league is to give visibility to the local players as well as popularize football in India. Whe the foreign players limit is raised automatically it'll affect the participation of the young players from the country. The popularity of the league happens through the involvement of popular faces of football, for the same it shouldn't affect the opportunity. After the ISL more young players from the country have been identified.

There are 11 teams competing in the league, and right now approx. 100 local players are getting the opportunity to get a slot in the playing XI. But the problem is that India doesn't have such a deep talent pool. When you include so many local players, the quality gets diluted and the very purpose of having a league with international players get undone. I would rather prefer a maximum limit of 8 foreign players per squad and 5 in the playing XI. 

ATK Mohun Bagan is leading the points table, with 3 wins from 3 matches (9 points). On the other hand, the second team from Kolkata (East Bengal) is languishing at the bottom with zero points from three matches. Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan are miles ahead of the other teams. Bengaluru FC has been a disappointment so far, winning just one out of their three matches.

East Bengal is a completely new team. It will take some time for them to perform well. Now Mumbai City is in the first position in the Indian super league. They have won 3 out of 4 matches. Mohon Bagan is in the second position.

Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are of course the most consistent team for League. Sunil Chhetri alone can't save Bengaluru FC. I would have loved him playing with Mohun Bagan, again. This year's league is going to be dominated by foreign players more than ever. With almost no local players making it to the limelight.

Once in a decade or so, India produces some world class player. They had Bhaichung Bhutia during the 90s, and then Sunil Chhetri during the last decade. Unfortunately, Sunil Chhetri is already 36 years old and India can't find a suitable replacement for him. There are a bunch of promising players out there, such as Udanta Singh, Anirudh Thapa, Jerry Lalrinzuala and Lallianzuala Chhangte. But these players are miles behind Bhutia/Chhetri as far as skillset is concerned.

FC Goa really surprised their fans in this tournament that was making some people doubt, if FC Goa will win this Indian super league 2020 because they way they play their first leg that make them to draw.

Although it is true that Jamshedpur FC is yet to win any match, you should not forget the fact that they have a very well balanced side. Their foreign players are in very good form (Nerijus Valskis/Peter Hartley/Stephen Eze/Alex Lima), and they have some of the most promising young Indian players such as Jackichand Singh, Isaac Vanmalsawma, Laldinliana Renthlei and William Lalnunfela. It is going to be a tight match.

I think ATK Mohun Bagan will have some trouble to win the match but they will win. Because their players are in form now. Winning a match requires skill as well as being mentally strong. And Mohun Bagan has won all the matches, so the morale of all the players of Mohun Bagan is in a strong position. Let's see if they win today.

It is going to be two one-sided matches today and tomorrow. Today we have the Mumbai City FC taking on the Chennaiyin FC, and tomorrow it is East Bengal against Jamshedpur FC. SC East Bengal has lost every single match they played so far and they don't look comfortable with their promotion from the I-League to the ISL. And this creates issues for the ISL management. Their decision to promote SCEB to the ISL will be questioned by the critics.

The Indian Super League League is becoming an interesting and exciting day by day. The matches are being very enjoyable. Yet it seems that the ISL has very few spectators. Because there are very few people who are interested to discuss about ISL.

The match between Mumbai city vs Chennaiyin will be held today. Mumbai is now at the top of the points table, and Chennaiyin's position is in the 8th position. Chennaiyin FC is an average level team. But sometimes they become terrible. I like Mumbai City's style of play. So my bet in today's match will be in favour of Mumbai city.

Right now, there are three teams at the top of the table, with 9 points each (Mumbai City FC, NEUFC and ATK Mohun Bagan). ATK Mohun Bagan was cruising through, but they lost their last match to Jamshedpur FC. Now the opportunity is with the Amrinder Singh-led Mumbai City to top the table, if they could defeat the weak Chennaiyin side.

Actually the failure of East Bengal FC proves the quality of I-league is much worse than that of the ISL. Let's not forget the fact that East Bengal was the runners up during the 2019-20 I league. They were one of the strongest teams in I league, but they are unable to compete against the ISL teams.    Mohun Bagan on the other hand (champions of the 2019-20 I league) entered in to a partnership with Atlético de Kolkata, and as a result they were able to perform well.

Well.. East Bengal lost the match 2-3. During half-time they were leading by 1-0, but FC Hyderabad managed to score 3 quick goals in short time during the second half. They remain at the bottom of the points table, with no wins form 5 matches (one of the matches ended in a draw, and as a result, they have one point to their name). FC Goa will take on ATK Mohun Bagan today.

ATK Mohan Bagan has been performing good by the very first series. Roy Krishna is playing good on every game. This time the first two teams are in the lead with a big difference in the winning, whereas the teams in the bottom are close on the points run. So, big changes can happen in the end of the season.

Both Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan has 13 points each from 6 matches and they are on top of the points table. After some initial setbacks, Bengaluru FC has recovered well to get to the third position with 12 points (they have won 3 of their last 4 matches, and have never lost a match in this season so far). NorthEast United is trailing as far as points are concerned. So if we talk about the front-runners, right now we have three - ATKMB, Mumbai City and BFC.

So far this season, the performance of NorthEast United has been below par. They were overdependent on Bartholomew Ogbeche, but he has now landed with the Mumbai City   FC. And the local players are unable to plug in the gap which was left by his departure. Their squad looks very unstable as of now, as most of the key players such as Reagan Singh, Redeem Tlang, Rowllin Borges and Puitea are representing the other teams.

Only 2-3 foreign players are included in the playing XI for each team. You want to remove this option also? Most of us watch ISL, because we get to watch these players. If foreign players are not there, then hardly anyone is going to watch the ISL. India doesn't have enough talent pool, to provide local players to all the 11 ISL teams. Apart from Sunil Chhetri, is there any other international-class player among the locals?

These foreign players are there in the teams for multiple reasons. One of the aims is to mentor young local players and from what I can see a number of local players have benefited from playing alongside these international stars. The quality of football is very low in India and hopefully within the next few years there will be enough young local players to improve the standards.

Now we have clear leaders for this edition of the IPL. Both Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan are having 16 points from 7 matches each. The third placed Bengaluru FC is far behind with just 12 points from 7 matches. Although the initial phase is going on, it looks to me that either of these two teams are going to win the trophy this time. ATK Mohun Bagan in particular looks to be in excellent form.

There are still many matches left in the season. Who will win the title is decided now though it is decided very early. However, considering the performances of all the teams, it is understood that ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai city will be ahead in the title fight till the end of the season. Bengaluru FC is playing well. I hope in the third position we will see Goa at the end of the season. The team has not been able to organize itself properly so far.

This season looks like very lopsided. Teams such as ATK Mohun Bagan have performed really well, while some of the other teams look completely out of sorts. I am not just talking about teams such as East Bengal (2 points from 6 matches), but also about teams such as the Northeast United FC and FC Goa. During the last season, NEUFC and FCG were among the contenders for winning the trophy. This time their performance has been so pathetic, that they can hardly compete against teams such as Mumbai City and ATKMB.

Today we have the match between two of the weaker sides - Kerala Blasters FC, and Hyderabad FC. Kerala Blasters have failed to live up to the hype for the past few seasons. They are one of the ISL teams with the largest fan base, but their performance on the field has antagonized their fans. Kerala is one of the few regions in India where the popularity of football is very high (along with Northeast and Goa).

Did you made a bet for today's match. It seems like today is your lucky day, as Kerala Blasters FC defeated Hyderabad FC 2-0. Jordan Murray and Abdul Hakku scored the goals for Kerala. However, Blasters haven't made much progress as far as points are considered. They are at 9 points from 8 matches, while Hyderabad also have the same number of points from the same number of matches.

Jamshedpur reached the third position of the points table with the victory in today's match. I saw the highlights of the game. Both teams played well. Jamshedpur is lucky so they have won. The players of Bangaluru FC made many good attacks, but they did not succeed

Mumbai City started the tournament poorly, but managed to assert themselves in the last few games. Against the Blasters I don't think they'll have much trouble winning, while against Bengaluru they'll have to try not to get beaten since they've been playing pretty well lately too, despite the last two results.

Jamshedpur FC scored 13 points in 9 matches, now they are in the third position in the points table. On the other hand, Mumbai City and Mohun Bagan,  have played 7 matches each and scored 16 points. Although there are still many matches left in the season, it is expected that no one will be able to beat Mumbai and Mohun Bagan this season. Goa played well in the previous season. I thought they might be in the top 3 positions. But they are far behind.

That is a surprise. They have managed to get to the third position, despite winning only 3 out of their 9 matches. Bengaluru FC is at the 4th position, and this season was very disappointing for their fans. They have only 12 points from 8 matches and they have lost two consecutive matches now. NEUFC is another disappointing side this season. They haven't managed any wins during their last 4 matches. Mumbai City and ATK Mohun Bagan are on top, far ahead of the remaining teams.

The Mariners will be looking to go three points clear atop while Chennaiyin hunt for their third win of the season.Chennaiyin have a six point gap to close towards the top of the table when they take on ATK Mohun Bagan.

LOL... do you really believe that Chennaiyin has a chance against ATK Mohun Bagan? The latter have lost only one out of their 7 matches, and has been in top form this season. For me, the outcome is very predictable. Only the winning margin is in question here. There has been a slight improvement in Chennaiyin's performance this season, but that is not enough to defeat ATK Mohun Bagan.

I checked the odds, and most of the gambling sites have Mumbai City FC at 1.57-1.65 range. On the other hand, Kerala Blasters are at 4.80-5.20. I would have gone ahead and made a bet in favor of Mumbai City, but Kerala Blasters won their last match (against Hyderabad FC). I am not feeling 100% confident as a result of this, and for now I am going to skip this match.

Kerala is one among the strong team that has got good players. This time few teams performance weren't that good. Though the matches were going close there is big difference between the team at the top and the last one on the table. Chennai team is also one amongst with underrated performance. Kerala Blasters were fighting hard with higher percentage of ball possession, but lacks with the goals.

On paper Kerala Blasters is one of the strongest teams playing in the ISL. But season after season, they have underperformed and disappointed their fans. A couple of years back, the fans even decided to boycott their matches after getting fed up with the repeated poor performance. They have some serious issues and that may be related to team bonding or management. And unless they sort it out, don't expect much from them in the ISL.

Mumbai keeps winning, and it has locked its position within the top four. Kerala Blasters gave a hard fight, but they weren't able to change the match towards their side. Myself too had a belief that Kerala will mark its win and moves few step above on the points table. It looks like an proven odd game, because Mumbai is suggested as winning team by most prediction sites.

Such a huge gap between the first two teams (Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan) and the rest. On top of that, these two teams have played only 8 matches so far, compared to 9 each for the 3rd and 4th placed teams. And one of the strongest teams, Bengaluru FC is not even in the top 4. Looks as if Sunil Chhetri is nearing retirement and is no longer able to score wins for his team.

ATK Mohun Bagan had another victory today (and that too by a good margin against Northeast United FC). Now they have 20 points and that means that they are marginally ahead of Mumbai City FC (who have 19 points). But Mumbai City has played one match less than ATK Mohun Bagan.


I already mentioned in my post that I am not making a bet for that match. I should have bet in favor of Mumbai City FC, but Kerala Blasters won the match before that and therefore I was in two minds.

I was watching the match between ATK Mohun Bagan vs NorthEast United today. The match was a draw after half time. And NorthEast United was playing well enough. But in the second half, the rhythm of NorthEast United fell. And they digested two consecutive goals in a short time. After that, they were not able to make any good attack and could not score.

NorthEast United FC is in very poor form this season and the absence of some of their main players seems to have affected their performance. Bartholomew Ogbeche was their backbone until 2019, when he decided to leave for Kerala Blasters (now he is a part of the Mumbai City FC). Some of the other players, such as Seiminlen Doungel, Redeem Tlang, Rowllin Borges and Reagan Singh have also moved to other teams.

Today it looks like Kerala Blaster will get their second win. They were able to score a goal in just 7 minutes of the match. Odisha is a weak opponent. They have not yet won. a single match. Kerala Blaster has a chance to easily get 3 points today. Let's see if they can win until the end.

LOL.. it was really funny though. This is not the first time that Kerala Blasters lose a match after scoring first. It has happened numerous times in the previous seasons. I was watching the second half of the match, and the reaction from the Blasters coach and bench was worth the wait.  ;D

This win is not of much use for Odisha, as they remain at the rock bottom (just one win form 9 matches). Blasters also have 1 win from their 9 matches, but they have one point more than Odisha. And this means that East Bengal is now promoted to the 9th place in the points table.

Good gameplay from team Odisha. They won for the first time this season. Only one win in 9 matches. East Bengal, Kerela, and Odisha The three teams have won just one of the nine matches. However, my idea was wrong. Kerala started the match brilliantly but they conceded 4 goals and lost the match. Yet they are above Odisha in the points table.

Time has come for ISL to introduce a promotion/relegation system. Teams which are performing poorly on a continuous basis (such as Odisha FC and the Kerala Blasters FC needs to be relegated to the I-league and the top teams from I-league can be promoted to the ISL). This will help to maintain the quality in ISL and will make sure that the matches remain competitive.

I totally agree with you. Teams like Odisha, Kerala and East Bengal lose the quality of ISL. The spectators get annoyed when they see their gameplay. If the top teams of the I-league are given a chance in ISL then maybe ISL will be more competitive

The match between Hyderabad left NorthEast will be held today. Both teams are of equal quality. Both have equal chances of winning. But North East did not win any of their last 5 matches. I think today's match could be a draw

Just checked the points table and I was astonished to find Hyderabad FC at the third place, with 15 points from 10 matches. I think this is the highest position in ranking they ever got, since the ISL started. The top two positions are still occupied by Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan, with 20 and 22 points respectively. They have maintained such a large gap between the rest. The NEUFC is at 7th position, which seems to be their worst showing for sometime.

The match between Bangaluru FC and East Bengal is going to be held after 1 hour. Bangaluru FC has lost the last 3 matches. Will they be able to win today's match? East Bengal is not a tough opponent. Bengaluru should have at least won today's match.

You are right. But if we compare the current performance with the way East Bengal started the season, you have to say that East Bengal has improved a lot. Apart from Mumbai and Mohun Bagan, the only East Bengal team has not lost in any of the last five matches. Next time maybe they will improve their gameplay more.

This is going to be one of the most important matches. Mumbai City is on top with 22 points from 9 matches, while Mohun Bagan is at the second position with 20 points from as many matches. A win could push ATK Mohun Bagan to the first position, while a win for Mumbai City would cement their position at the top with a huge gap with all the other teams. The battle is essentially between Adam Le Fondre of Mumbai City and Roy Krishna of ATKMB.

I have followed the ISL for so many years and the point table never looked this much weird. Mumbai City is at the top with 25 points from 10 matches. They have won 8 out of their 10 matches. On the second spot we have ATK Mohun Bagan with 20 points. On the third place, it is Hyderabad FC with 15 points from 10 matches. Can you believe it? 10 point difference between the first placed and third placed teams!

One of two teams dominating the league is not an old phenomena. If you look at the English Premier League, or the Bundesliga, you can see that the few top teams completely dominate the tournament. If the same is happening in the ISL, then it is not necessarily a bad thing. Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan have the potential to become some of the strongest football clubs in Asia.

The situation has changed in EPL, but previously teams such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United used to dominate the league. And then on the other end we have teams such as West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United who face relegation. But all these leagues have a promotion/relegation system, which weeds out the weakest teams. It will be better if the ISL also goes for such a system.

If I am not wrong, earlier there was a proposal for something like this. But there was huge opposition from the I-league teams, who don't want to admit that now they are playing in a second tier league. Even FIFA has written to the AIFF, about the difficulty of having two leagues at the top. To complicate the matters further, I-League contain some of the oldest football clubs in India and it is not very easy to ignore their demands.

Mumbai City made their second draw of the season against Hyderabad. Hyderabad has been able to dominate Mumbai very well. I would say Hyderabad did not win the match it is their bad luck. Today Jamshedpur will play against Northeast United and Mohun Bagan will play against Goa. ATK Mohun Bagan lost the previous match. Hopefully, they will win today

ATK Mohun Bagan was doing good, but after their loss to Mumbai City FC they seems to have lost their momentum. After that match, they had a draw against FC Goa. Their next match is against Chennaiyin FC and if they can win that match, then the second place will be in no danger. But Chennaiyin has performed beyond expectations for this season.

Bengaluru have lost four of their last five matches and have been able to draw one. In today's match, they were leading 1-0 in the first half. I thought they would win this match. But I was disappointed to see the end result of the match. Bangalore also lost to Kerala Blasters 2-1. Kerala Blasters secured their victory by scoring a goal in 90 + 4 minutes

Sad to see Bengaluru in this position. Once upon a time, they were being regarded as the best team in the ISL, with players such as Sunil Chhetri and Udanta Singh. And now they have lost the match to one of the weakest teams in the ISL. And more ironic is the fact that now Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters FC have the same number of points (13 from 12 matches).

ATK Mohun Bagan needed a win and they managed to do that. They won the match by 1-0. ATKMB is still trailing Mumbai City, as the latter is having 26 points from 11 matches. I guess very few made bets in favor of Mohun Bagan yesterday, because they went winless in their last 4 matches. On top of that Chennaiyin is doing relatively better in this season. BTW, a major surprise is the elevation of Hyderabad FC to the fourth position. They were always being regarded as one of the weakest ISL teams. What an irony? Hyderabad at 4th position and Bengaluru at 7th.  ;D

The only match of today is Goa vs Kerala Blasters. I want to bet for Goa in this match. Because the Goa team is in good form at the moment. Goa also ranks after Mumbai and ATK in the points table. On the other hand, Kerala's previous performance against Goa is not pleasant. Kerala has lost the last 4 matches and drew 1 against Goa. With the exception of one match, Kerala has conceded 3 goals in all the matches.

Mumbai City and ATK Mohun Bagan FC have made a strong stand on the points table. Rest of the teams are standing with small difference on the points table. With more matches to come the third and fourth position on the points table can change anytime. Mostly the end matches will be very close, and the teams will face a situation that winning team will enter the top position.

I won't be too much surprised if Sunil Chhetri announces his retirement by the end of this season. I have a feeling that his good days are behind him now and his form is fading. A decade ago, it was Chhetri who filled the vacuum that was left by Bhaichung Bhutia. But sadly there is no one to take his place now. And the ISL is becoming a league that is more and more dominated by the foreign players. Good Indian players are not emerging frequently.

ISL has failed to give enough boost to football, to make it the second most popular sport in India (cricket is at number one, and I don't think that any other sport can give a meaningful competition there). Even now, the PKL (Pro Kabaddi)TV ratings are more than that of ISL. The Hockey India League (HIL) was discontinued in 2017, else it would have given challenge to ISL as well.

Today ATK Mohun Bagan will play against Northeast United. I am hoping to win today's match from ATK. ATK is now in the second position in the points table. They must win today's match to stay ahead in the title fight. At the moment ATK Mohun Bagan is 6 points behind Mumbai City

What a great victory Northeast United! It was a great match. Northeast has been able to win even with less possession of the ball. Ball possession ATK 62% and Northeast is only 38%. Mohun Bagan started the season very well but now they are falling behind. They have won only 2 of the last 5 matches. Defeat against a small team like Northeast today was not expected at all

It was a very close match. ATK Mohun Bagan was unlucky to waste so many good chances. Anyway, ATK remains at the second position with 24 points, but the difference is that the gap between them and the first placed Mumbai City FC has now widened. And with the win yesterday, NEUFC is back to the top half in the points table. But ATK needs to be careful now, as they have lost two of their last four matches.

Thought the Goa team would try their best to move to second place in the points table. But I don't think there will be any change in the first and second place of the points table this season. Mumbai is at the top of the table with 30 points from 13 matches. Goa, in third place, has scored 21 points in 14 matches. Goa also shared points with easy teams like Eastbengal in today's match
Mumbai city will play against Northeast tomorrow. As usual, I think Mumbai will win the next match

Mumbai City lost by 2-1 to Northeast. This victory of the Northeast was utterly unexpected. No one thought Mumbai City could lose this match. Mumbai City is in the top of the table with 30 points and ATK Mohun Bagan is at the second place with 27 points.

No immediate danger to Mumbai City, as they are having a wide gap with the second ranked team (ATK Mohun Bagan). But the loss to NEUFC was totally unexpected. Mumbai City had almost attained an invincible status and no one really expected this upset. If they had won this match, it was almost certain that Mumbai City would end up as the champions of this year's edition. Now it looks as if new need to wait for a few more matches.

BTW did anyone noticed that Hyderabad FC is at the no.3 position? I guess this is the best ranking they have ever achieved till now in the ISL (for comparison, last year they got the wooden spoon).

The team that was at the bottom of the points table of the previous season was Hyderabad. They are in the third position at the moment this season. But I don’t think they will be able to maintain this position until the end of the season. Looking at Hyderabad's gameplay, I think their main goal in every match is to play defensively and draw the match. They have played 15 matches this season, winning 5 and drawing 7. In the last 5 matches, they have won only 1 and drawn 4.

Whatever their strategy is, they have made good progress this season. Sometimes taking a defensive stance may be the best thing to do. Else how can you explain Hyderabad FC at 3rd position, and Bengaluru FC at 6th? Their next three matches are against NEUFC, East Bengal and Kerala Blasters. If they win two out of these three, then they are in a good position to get themselves promoted to the 2nd spot.

Defensive gameplay is best when you don't have enough talented strikers. Hyderabad plays defensively and they make good use of opportunities. They played defensive football but won 5 matches. I think this is their big achievement. The next match will be between NorthEast and Goa. The team that wins this match will take third place in the points table.

Against teams such as Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City, a weak team such as Hyderabad FC doesn't have a good chance of victory. Under such circumstances, it is best to keep it to the basics. The strategy is to frustrate the opposite team, so that they will make some mistake. Here I have to mention the coach of Hyderabad FC (Manuel Márquez Roca). He has done such a wonderful job for his team during this season. And credits for Aridane Santana as well, for captaining the side. These Spanish players are nowadays having such a big influence in ISL.

Hyderabad's match strategy are really great. They do not have enough talented and skilled players in their team. Even then they are now in third place in the points table. They may be in the top 4 by the end of the season.

They may not be having too many super-stars, but they have a number of young and promising players. Chinglensana Singh is one of the best defenders in India right now. Other promising players include Laldanmawia Ralte, Halicharan Narzary, Nikhil Poojari and Asish Rai. On top of this, their foreign contingent is also of topmost quality (Lluís Sastre, João Victor, Aridane Santana, Francisco Sandaza.etc). Unfortunately, I never made a bet in favor of them this season. It could have been much rewarding to do so.

Goa, NorthEast United, and Hyderabad are now in the points table with equal points in the same match. And the funny thing is they scored almost the same number of goals. There are about 5 matches left for each team. The positions of Mumbai and Mohun Bagan in the first and second place of the points table will not be changed. We can see more of the change of position of the teams next to the points table.

This time there are 11 teams and therefore each team will be having a total of 20 matches. The question is only regarding the 2nd to 4th positions, as Mumbai City FC is far ahead of the others in points table. Right now we have ATK Mohun Bagan, FC Goa and Hyderabad FC in 2-4 ranks, and I assume that these will be the teams that would qualify for the playoffs. 5th ranked NorthEast United is also in contention, as they also have the same number of points as Hyderabad.

The Goa team will face Mumbai city in the only match of the day. In the previous match, the Mumbai City team defeated the Goa team by 1-0. The match was very competitive. Goa tried a lot to score but they were not able to score. Even today I am expecting a competitive match. Goa will want to draw today's match. They have drawn in the last 4 matches.

What a prediction? Did you made a bet on this match? It actually ended up in draw, despite a total of 6 goals being scored. I would have never thought Mumbai City not winning the match, with them being in such terrific form. And at one point, they were leading by 2-0. When the injury time started, Mumbai City was leading 3-2, and the goal from Ishan Pandita levelled the score for FC Goa in the last minute of injury time.

I did not bet on that match. Although I thought the match would be a draw, I still had doubts. Because Mumbai City is in great form.

The points table of the Indian Super League seems interesting to me at the moment. Even a few days ago, Mumbai was ahead by many points. At the moment they are just 1 point ahead of Mohun Bagan. But Goa, which is in the third place in the points table, is 10 points behind from Mohun Bagan.

ATK Mohun Bagan might have closed down on Mumbai City FC, but that doesn't take away the fact that the other teams are far behind in terms of points. Right now Mumbai City is on top with 34 points, with ATKMB at second position with 33. The third placed team only has 23 points. So far in this season of the ISL, it has been a complete dominance by these two teams. Never before I have seen two teams dominating like this in the ISL. And the season is about to finish as well. Only 4 matches remain per team.

Mumbai city at the top of the points table has scored 34 points in 16 matches. On the other hand, third, fourth, and fifth place teams, Goa, Hyderabad and Northeast have scored only 23 points in 16 matches. Sixth-placed Bengaluru has scored just 19 points in 17 matches. Teams need to be more stable. Then the matches will become more competitive. It is boring to see such a one-sided season.

Feels bad about Bengaluru FC and Sunil Chhetri. Never expected that they will fail to find a place in the top-5. Anyway, this may be the last season for Sunil Chhetri. He is already 36 years old and I think that his capability of single-handedly leading his team to victories has waned. This means bad news for the Indian national team as well. Right now there is no one to replace him.

The reason for organizing such a big league in India is that by playing with foreign experienced players, Indian players can also become more skilled and experienced. But that is not the happen. Indian players are more dependent on foreign players. And at the end of the day, after organizing so many big leagues, and spending so much money, Indian football is not improving as expected. Indian players have to be influenced by foreign players. Only then will Indian football improve.

Don't expect any major improvement overnight. It may take a decade or more, for the results to be visible. Many of the younger Indian players are getting the opportunity to play alongside some of the legends. But the acquirement of skills take some time and the impact will be visible within the next few years. And it is wrong to say that ISL is being dominated by the foreigners. More and more Indian players are making their presence felt.

In 2017, India was 105th in the FIFA rankings, in 2020, they are 104th in the FIFA rankings. In 4 years they have advanced only 1 step. In 2018 they were 97th and in 2019 they were 109th. I don't think India will be able to come in the top 100 in the next 2/1 years. I don't see any world-class skilled striker in the India team. They need to practice harder.

Only Mumbai City and MohUn Bagan are fighting this season. The rest of the teams are far from the title. They have no chance and no hope of winning the title. In the previous season, third-ranked Bengaluru was 9 points behind from the first-placed Goa. I am waiting to see which team will win the title this time. Although Mumbai City is in the first position at the moment, I still think this Mohun Bagan will win the title.

India doesn't play enough friendlies in a given year, and therefore these rankings are useless. What matters is whether they are able to qualify for the FIFA and regional tournaments or not. Right now they are not in such a position, but given the improvement in the game I hope they will be able to do that within the next few years. Take the world cup qualification for example. From 2026 onwards, Asian teams stand a greater chance to qualify, because the slots from Asia has been increased from 8 from 4 in 2022. The first target for the Indian team should be to secure World Cup qualification by 2026.

If India's goal is to play in the 2026 World Cup, now is the right time for them to make appropriate preparation. They need to select the right players and take the right steps to make them more efficient. I also think India will be able to qualify for the 2026 World Cup if their board takes proper care of the players.

With the number of slots allotted to Asian region doubled, it will be easier for them to qualify, but still it is going to take a lot of hard work. Out of the 46 teams that are part of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), India is ranked 18th as of now. For the 2026 World Cup, there will be 8 slots from Asia, so it is going to be 8 out of 46. Teams such as Iran, South Korea, Australia and Japan are almost assured of qualification, and that leaves 4 slots remaining for the other teams.

India spends a lot of money on football. But they do not get such good results. Their players need to be more diligent. They have a lot of players. Players need to be properly prepared through training. And domestic players should be given more opportunities in league games to play with foreign players. Which will make them more skilled.

As I mentioned earlier, things are moving in the right direction. But there are two major obstacles. First of all, football is not a very popular sport in India. There are a few strongholds such as Kerala, Goa and Bengal. But apart from these places, football is a minor sport in India. Cricket remains the no.1 sport for the majority of Indians. And secondly, one of the reasons why India doesn't perform well in the international scene may be due to the lack of athleticism and other factors from the local population. Now there is no real solution for this issue.

Now coming back to the topic, we have NEUFC taking on Odisha today. NEUFC is at 5th place, and they need to win this match to increase their chances of qualifying for the playoff. And tomorrow we have Mumbai City taking on Bengaluru FC. A defeat this time would end Bengaluru's hopes of qualifying. They had such a horrible season this time.

In this match, NorthEast United have managed to beat Odisha by 3-1 goal. Northeast now ranks third in the points table. Their point is 26. Goa and Hyderabad are in fourth and fifth place with 24 points each. Each team has 3 more matches. Till now it is hard to predict that,  which teams will be on top 4.

Mohun Banagn now occupies the top position in the points table. Although they are at the top at the beginning of the season, Mumbai City has dominated the ISL so far. However, I am looking forward to the match between Mumbai City and ATK on February 28. The team that wins the match will be at the top of the points table .

The difference is due to the fact that ATK Mohun Bagan has played a total of 17 matches, while Mumbai City has played only 16. Today Mumbai City FC will be taking on Bengaluru FC. Hyderabad is now playing with Kerala Blaster. If Hyderabad wins today's match, they will come third place in the points table. Kerala Balster is not a good team. I think Hyderabad will win the match 2-0 . End of 15 minutes, neither team has been able to score yet.

Kerala Blasters have disappointed their fans again and again. Today was no different, as they went down to Hyderabad by such a massive margin (4-0). Hyderabad on the other hand has been one of the most improved teams in this season. Their foreign players (especially those from Spain) form such a formidable bunch while playing in the ISL. And not surprisingly, Kerala Blasters are at 10th position, with just 16 points.

After watching the first half of the match, I could not have imagined that Kerala Blaster could be defeated by a huge margin of 4-0 goals. Kerala played very badly in the second half. This victory of Hyderabad was very necessary. If they can beat ATK Mohun Bagan in the next match, they will be in the top 4 of the points table till the end.

Hyderabad FC is 3rd in points table right now, and they should strive to maintain that position. ATK Mohun Bagan has moved past Mumbai City FC, but both these teams are far ahead of the rest. I don't expect Hyderabad FC to overtake them, with just 2 matches remaining. Two wins in two matches will give them 33 points, but Mumbai City is having 34 points from 17 matches. Anyway, now they should focus on the remaining two matches, and after that they should prepare for the playoffs. 

you are right. They should focus on the next two matches. And playoffs should be confirmed. NorthEast United is just 1 point behind Hyderabad and Goa are just 3 points behind. But they have played 1 match less than Hyderabad. I think Hyderabad must play well against ATK to ensure play-off. If they lose this match, they will not be able to play in the playoffs

The match against FC Goa may essentially a knockout, with the winners entering semi-final. For Northeast United, their remaining matches are against East Bengal and Odisha, which gives them an advantage. The Bengaluru vs Goa match is going to be crucial as well.

Northeast United has 3 matches left. The three matches are against Ceennaiyin, East Bengal, and Kerala Blaster respectively. Except for Chennaiyin, East Bengal, and Kerala are very weak opponents. I hope North East will be able to easily score 6 points in these two matches.

Northeast will be facing Chennaiyin today. If they win the match, then they will be at 3rd place with 29 points. Chennaiyin is also not in very good form right now and they have gone winless in their last 5 matches. On the other hand, NEUFC won 3 out of their last five matches and therefore we can say that the momentum is with them. And regarding their matches against the two bottom ranked teams, it is going to be a cakewalk.

Today's only match is Mumbai city vs Jamshedpur. Mumbai City is already 5 points behind ATK Mohun Bagan. On the other hand,  if they lose the next 3 matches, they will remain in second place on the points table. Because the rest of the teams are 7 points behind Mumbai. I think ATK, Mumbai, Northeast, and Goa will qualify for the playoffs.

I don't know what happened to Mumbai City lately. They were far ahead on the points table and then they started losing matches continuously. Their recent losses against Jamshedpur and Bengaluru was very much unexpected. In case of the latter match, I was actually happy because Sunil Chhetri managed a stellar performance in that one. ATK Mohun Bagan on the other hand, have won all of their last five matches.

ATK Mohun Bagan will be at the top of the points table, followed by Mumbai CIty. The position of these two teams is almost certain. NorthEast United will be in the third position. And in fourth place I will put the Hyderabad team. I don't think Goa will be able to qualify for the Playoff

Yeah... this is very much possible. Although the NEUFC is at 5th position currently, they have played one match less than the third placed FC Goa. For FC Goa, the only remaining match is against FC Hyderabad. But their penultimate match against Bengaluru is ongoing and the outcome is not yet clear although they are leading by 2-1. If Bengaluru manages a comeback, then it is going to be advantageous for Hyderabad and NEUFC. Bengaluru itself doesn't have much of a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

Goa won today's match. I thought this match would be a draw. Now it looks like Goa and NorthEast will go to the next round. Maybe Hyderabad won't go to the next round. Hyderabad's next opponent is Mohun Bagan. Winning against Mohun Bagan will not be an easy task. If Hyderabad loses this match, they will not be able to go to the next round.

Goa has almost confirmed their slot in the knockout stage, with the victory yesterday over Bengaluru. Today we have Hyderabad and ATK Mohun Bagan. I am not writing off Hyderabad. An upset victory against Mohun Bagan may give them 3 points and another win against FC Goa next Sunday should be enough to get the necessary points to qualify. Tomorrow's match is also important (NEUFC vs East Bengal).

For both the teams, this is going to be the last match in group stage. FC Goa is having 30 points and Hyderabad FC is having 28 points. So that means if FCG enters the knockout phase if they win the match, or it ends as a draw. The good news for Hyderabad is that they can enter the knockout if they win the match against FCG, as they got one point from today's match.

The three teams are fighting to get to the knock-out stage. ISL was not interesting at the start of the season. But at the moment ISL is very interesting and competitive too. ATK and Mumbai are battling for first place on the point table and NorthEast, Goa, and Hyderabad are battling for the playoffs. This fight will continue till the end of the season

As expected Northeast United won today's match against East Bengal and now have 30 points. Goa is also having 30 points, but they are placed higher thanks to a superior goal difference. Hyderabad is at 5th place, with 28 points. Just one match remains for each of the teams. Goa will take on Hyderabad, and Northeast will be taking on Kerala. The teams ranked 3 to 5 still have a chance of making it to the knockout phase, but the chances are highest for Goa and Northeast.

I don't think Goa will be able to win against Hyderabad. However, Goa can qualify for the next round only if they can draw this match. In this match, they will play defensively and try their best to draw. Hyderabad should change their match strategy and play attacking football. Otherwise, they will not be able to go to the next round.

If they play defensively for 90 minutes, then in all probability they will lose the match. Goa is a better team compared to Hyderabad and there is no need for them to be excessively defensive. They need to play their natural game. As you have mentioned, only a draw is needed for them to qualify for the playoffs, so this should not be a very tough job.

I am looking forward to the match between Goa and Hyderabad. Maybe it will be the most interesting and competitive match of the season. One team needs to win, the other team needs to draw.

Mumbai City had a devastating performance against the weakest team of the season today after losing points in several consecutive matches. They beat Odisha by 6-1 goal.

The final round of matches remain in this season's IPL. This time the top two teams completely dominated the tournament (ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC), while teams such as Kerala Blasters, Odisha and East Bengal continued with their poor performance. I think it is time that the ISL implement a relegation-promotion system. The best team from the I-league can be promoted to the ISL every season, while the bottom ranked team from the ISL can be relegated to the I-League.

That match was more like a dead rubber, as both the teams didn't had any realistic chance of qualifying for the playoffs. This season was horrendous for Bengaluru FC, who finished on 7th spot. They don't have any more matches remaining and finished with 22 points from 20 matches. The most important match will be played on Sunday. FC Goa is taking on Hyderabad FC, and the winner will proceed to the playoffs.

Three teams have confirmed their positions for the playoffs. ATK Mohun Bagan in the first place, Mumbai City in second place, and NorthEast United finalized their place by winning today's match. Goa and Hyderabad will fight for fourth place. Hyderabad will have to win tomorrow's match to advance to the next round. On the other hand, even if Goa draws the match, they will be able to go to the next round

I look forward to today's match. If Hyderabad wins today, they will qualify for the playoffs, if they lose or share points, they will not advance to the next round. Hope this match is the most competitive match in this season.

Chances are better for FC Goa, since they need only a draw in their match against Hyderabad. Both the teams are heavily dependent on foreign players. FC Goa is having big names such as Igor Angulo, Jorge Ortiz, Edu Bedia and Iván González, while their opponents have players such as    Lluís Sastre, João Victor, Aridane Santana and Odei Onaindia. And regrading the second match, for me it is of little relevance. Both the teams are on top of the points table and the outcome of the match is unlikely to affect it.

Hyderabad coach Manuel Marquez said facing the Mariners at this stage would be an exciting challenge for his team.  ATMMB is in the best form of the league they have a very compact team and have very good players for the style that antonio wants to play at the moment ATM Mohun Bagan's coach habas has been impressed by the form of hyderabad this season hyderabad had a great season and we have to be confident against them. I agree. This season was very unpredictable. Both Goa and Hyderabad performed better than what was expected from them. Since Goa needs only a draw, I would give 2/3rd chance for them to qualify for the playoffs, while for Hyderabad I would give 1/3rd chances. Still, it means a lot for Hyderabad to be in contention for the playoffs. A few years back they were regarded as one of the weakest teams in the ISL.

Hyderabad fought really hard for a win, because they knew that if the match is drawn then FC Goa would move ahead of them and qualify in to the knockout stage. There were two red cards in the last 5 minutes, and that shows how fiercely the two teams fought. Goa had the task of defending, so they had it relatively easy. Feels bad for Hyderabad, but they should be proud of their performance in this season.

Hyderabad fought hard to win the match. But until the end, they shared the points. I would have been happy if Hyderabad had won this match and qualified for the playoffs. Yet I was impressed to see Hyderabad's performance in this season. Hyderabad was the last team on the points table of the previous season. They have been the fifth team at the table this season. That's impressive.

Hyderabad deserved a place in the playoffs, but unfortunately they fell short by a few points. But I am sad about the poor performance by Bengaluru FC. The team which is captained by Sunil Chhetri deserved a better position in the points table. They ended up at 7th place with just 22 points. Being the most renowned Indian player, I was expecting more from Chhetri and Bengaluru FC.

Almost all the matches of this season were influenced by foreign players. Domestic players did not perform well. Sunil Chhetri is the best player in India. I at least thought he would take Bengaluru FC to the playoffs. But Bengaluru FC has the worst performance this season. Really frustrating.

Sunil Chhetri was the best among the Indian players. I used "was" and not "is". Unfortunately his peak period is over. At 36 years, his body is not permitting him to perform as well as he used to be in the past. He dominated the Indian football scene for more than a decade, but time has come to find a suitable replacement. And the sad thing is that none of the younger players have the same calibre or talent, to replace him.

This is the main thing. India does not have a player to replace Sunil Chhetri. They have lots of young players. But there are very few talented young players. Each team in the super league is dependent on foreign players. Foreign players dominate the super league. I am skeptical about when the good days of Indian football will come.

After Bhaichung Bhutia, Sunil Chhetri was the big name in Indian football. If he was playing for any other country, then he would have achieved a lot of success and fame. But India is ranked much lower in the FIFA table, and no one really notices the matches played by the national team. Right now there is no one to replace him. I hope things will change in the future. That's why we have the ISL. Hopefully younger players will emerge.

The first match of the playoffs will be held tomorrow. The match is between FC Goa vs Mumbai City. In the previous two matches of Mumbai City vs Goa this season, Mumbai won 1-0 and the other match was drawn 3-3. The Goa team played great against Mumbai. It looks like tomorrow's match will be very competitive. If Mumbai fail to perform well, they will not be able to win this match.

What a match! I was totally surprised to see today's ATK Mohun Bagan vs NorthEast match. In the full 90 minutes, NorthEast was not able to make any on-target shots. ATK was leading 1-0. But after 90 minutes, in extra time we saw the horrible form of Northeast. They made 3 shots in extra time, were able to score one goal. Both the semi-final matches have been drawn. Will we then watch the final between Mumbai City vs Mohun Bagan? Because they have dominated the whole season.Or will we see another team in the final? I think Goa will be able to go to the final.

As the first two matches of the leg 1 have come to an end with drawn matches the teams for the final seems to be selected from the matches of the second leg. This time the matches throughout the series were quite interesting and there is excitement till the end. However we don't know which are the matches that gonna qualify to the final from the semi final.

LOL.. the goal from Idrissa Sylla in the last minute of the injury time changed the equations. ATK Mohun Bagan was playing extremely well until then, but they made a grave mistake by conceding that last minute goal. Now it is down to the last match. And regarding the match between FC Goa and Mumbai City FC, it was a more even-sided contest. It was expected, since FC Goa had the momentum with them.

I want the final to be played between Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan. It will be a big irony if some other team qualifies to the final. These two teams dominated this season's ISL, although Mumbai City seems to have run out of gas in the final phases of the Group stage. Anyway, we will have the final leg of the semi-finals tomorrow, and the outcome will decide who will play in the final.

But I was not satisfied with Mumbai's performance against Goa. Let's see how they perform in the next match.

That is really strange logic. The best teams need to win the trophy right? At least during the group phase, Mumbai City and ATKMB were the best teams, by a distance. FC Goa performed pathetically during the initial matches. It will be ridiculous if they end up in the final match. In particular, ATK Mohan Bagan was impressive. They made the transfer from I-league to ISL, and despite all those issues they performed well. IMO, they deserve a spot in the finals.

You are right. The best team should win the trophy. But we have seen the Goa and EastWest teams have struggled hard to make it to the playoffs. But Mumbai and ATK did not have to bother to ensure the playoffs. So I think these two are worthy contenders for the Dolly Trophy.

What an exciting match it was. After extra time, both the teams were tied 2-2 on aggregate. Penalty shootout ended in 2-2 tie. Finally it took the 5th shot form the sudden death to decide the winner. Congratulations to the Mumbai City FC goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa, who did an excellent job. And Rowlin Borges scored in the crucial sudden death shot, which put Mumbai City in the final.

@ folks help me out in understand the teams, not watched a single match in ISL but since there is a thread and discussion going on i would like to know about the teams and i cannot find much information online as the names are not familiar, have seen odds but usually neglect as i have no idea about the tournament and the teams and how to watch them.

Most exciting match in the season. Spectators like me are waiting to enjoy such a match. I feel very bad for Goa. They deserved to win this match. The players of FC Goa played great throughout the match. However, Mumbai City goalkeeper Amrinder Singh played the best in today's match. Basically just for him to go to the Mumbai City final. In the full 120 minutes, Mumbai made only one on-target shot. Too much bad performance.

Mumbai City FC changed their goal keeper just before the penalty shootout, and that probably gave them the win. Amrinder Singh was the goalkeeper till 120th minute and then he was replaced with Sikkimese player Phurba Lachenpa. According to Sergio Lobera, Amrinder is a better goalkeeper, but as far as shootouts are concerned, Lachenpa is the best guy. And this move proved to be the match winner. Lachenpa saved the shot from Bedia, and that immediately put them in advantage. 

What do you expect from a perfectly competitive match? Maybe both teams will score a lot of goals, otherwise, they will try to score. But Mumbai could not do as many attacks as we saw from Goa in yesterday's match. Besides ball possession, total passes, Mumbai lags far behind Goa in all statistics. Due to the remarkable achievements of Amrinder Singh and P. Lachenpa, Mumbai reached the final.

In the end, the outcome was decided in the penalty shootout. Mumbai City's coach (Sergio Lobera) decided to replace Amrinder with Lachenpa and that proved to be a big advantage for them. Amrinder is perhaps the best keeper in India right now, but his performance during the penalties is not up to the mark. So he was replaced with Lachenpa and the latter made some crucial saves to put them in the final.

This was the most important and perfect decision of the match. Amrinder was on the field for a full 120 minutes and he made a lot of great saves. It is normal to feel a little weak after 120 minutes of performance. Sergio Lobera realized that. This brought Amrinda's substitute Lachenpa to the field. The new goalkeeper Lachenpa did a great job. 

FC Goa also replaced their first-choice goalkeeper (Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem) with Naveen Kumar. The coaches might have thought that the first-choice keepers may be tired after 120 minutes and therefore they may be better to go with the reserve. The goalkeepers obviously did a great job (on both sides), but how many times do you see 6 out of the 10 penalty kicks wasted? Lachenpa and Naveen Kumar did managed to save one or two kicks. But the remainder were off-target.

Finally, we are going to watch the final match between Mumbai City and ATK Mohun Bagan. Both teams have ruled the entire season. And finally, these two teams reached the final by defeating Goa and Eastwest. The ATK team has lost two matches against Mumbai this season. But I think ATK is a better team than Mumbai. But Mumbai’s match strategy is very good and their coaches are very experienced. Anything will happen in this match.

Two of the most deserving teams reached the ISL finals and I am happy about that. ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC were far ahead of the other teams in the group stage. FC Goa and NEU FC were long way behind them. Now it is going to be a very exciting final match on this Saturday between the two teams. And I am making a bet in favor of ATK Mohun Bagan, because I believe that the momentum is with them.

I will also bet on ATK Mohun Bagan's victory in this match. I did not like Mumbai CIty's performance against Goa in the semi-finals. Although Mumbai won the match in the end, the Goa team played much better than Mumbai in the match. If Mumbai City cannot improve their performance, they will have to give up hope of winning the title.

The semi-final match was not that easy for ATK Mohun Bagan. The first leg was tied and in the second leg they won only narrowly. Will be interesting to see how East Bengal performs this time. During the ISL 2020-21, their performance was pathetic (although they managed to win a few matches towards the end and somehow avoided the wooden spoon). Don't have much hope for Kerala Blasters, as they always underperform. Kerala is always regarded as one of the strongholds for football in India, but teams from that state never performs at national level. This time also, the competition will be dominated by teams like Mumbai City, ATK Mohun Bagan and NEUFC.

Well that i what the india soccer fans were waiting for since quiet a long time now, and i am pretty excited as well about this years Indian super league and i feel it should get more exposure. East bengal did not performed well last time around and i am expecting that this year they will improve their performance, and Mumbai City is also going to do well.

The first match has begun with blasting goals from both the teams. In the match played between ATK Mohun Bagan and Kerala Blasters total six goals were made. Though Kerala Blasters played good it turned to be the day of ATK Mohun Bagan with 4 goals. In terms of ball possession Kerala Blasters were with 65% whereas ATK Mohun Bagan were just with 35% but they managed to win the match.

North East United that stands on the top of the table have lost against Bengaluru. Every match is interesting as more goals are being made. Same as the first match this match has got 6 goals altogether. The first half was very interesting, because consecutive goals were made by both the teams making the match so close. Chennaiyin FC seems to be the team that gives some consistency in its game on every season without moving much down on the table.
