Title: Overview of lightning network nodes owned by forum users
Post by: jackg on August 06, 2020, 12:30:58 AM
I don't think there's one of these yet so I thought I'd make one, feel free to reply here or my other thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5266897.msg54940573#msg54940573) with suggestions and comments.

Timelord2067 made a thread which can be accessed here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5206115.msg53238766#msg53238766) which suggests some lightning relevant information - services, node owners and wallets to name a few.

If you want your node to be listed, post here (with @jackg so a bot picks it up) and send me a pm here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=543626): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=543626

I don't imagine to get many nodes at the start but hopefully we can watch this grow and have trusted members to hold channels with - in case of attacks on the network.

When submitting a node, please use the format
Code:
Username:
Node URI:
Link to your post:
Link to an archive of your post:
I don't expect to intially make people sign an address but if you want to verify it's you then I'll add a nenw column.

Reserved.

Also open to the option of adding a banner for any service supporting the ln but using it or actively contributing to it - free for a few days as I'd like to keep rotating.

Also if you have a static IP address and want: your node id@yourname.lightning.ninja instead of your node id@your.ip.address
PM me with what you want and your IP and I will set it up.

I'll do this when I have free time, so there *will* be delays in getting it done. Which is why you should have static IP if you do this, otherwise stuff could be pointed to the wrong address till I have time to update it.

You should speak with BitcoinFX he is hosting a number of tor nodes for bitcoin I think it would be good to have 2 list's here one for the tor nodes and one for clearnet nodes.

I am sure he would like to contribute and he's a very long standing member in the community.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5177001.0

Will give him a heads up about the topic this will be a very useful topic!

Yeah I'll send him a pm and see if he wants to be added. The separate list for tor nodes sounds like a good idea too, thanks!

I have a node that has been running for a long, long time... The hardware on my dedicated server is getting quite old, so i have no idear if it'll be online for the years to come, but for now, here it is :)
The thing is: i never publicly posted an announcement for this node, so i don't have a link to a post where this node was announced...

I have no idear if this would be a problem, so i signed the application with my staked address just to be sure :)

Also I put in the full link rather than your node ID I assumed that's more helpful if your ip address changes.

I started making a list you are welcome to either reference or copy which can be found over yonder: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5206115.msg53238766#msg53238766 (not just users' but other sites etc)

(and I didn't say it's a big list either)

Thanks for the suggestion, I've added it.

I sent you a bb code fix that should work but I broke the pm so you'll have to click quote and copy it from within.

I already have DaveF also, I think that was the one you've got so far - redundancy is never useless when it comes to security so if you want me to mention when someone gets added to add it to your thread (or bump the thread) I can try to remember :).

If anyone wants to open a connection with me, here is my LN address over TOR. I have more than 0.3 BTC outgoing capacity, with up to 0.15 in a single channel.

Nickname: odolvlobo-02608b
02608bd929f9ffd9997d6ad8e03df49b82f2b02515c885780c3f4d87cc6b0a3081@pzsmiuf6dv5jjugmx5dvdpljf6lpwk7necezis7eafrjmjxia7s6b6id.onion:9735

Thanks I've added it!

I'll sort the reference tomorrow, I might have got your username wrong as I couldn't copy and paste..
That's a lot of capacity for a node also!

Unfortunately, I'm stuck with clear links on my PC and my mobile phone otherwise I'd connect to more.  (I also suspect some of the nodes I've linked to in the past have gone dark which is why I can no longer connect to them).

This is my c-lightning node running, for others to connect:

If everything is fine, it should be up and running 24/7. Maybe some downtime due to the fact that I'm new to lightning network and I'll still learning and experimenting. So, many times, I need to change configs, restart the node etc.

I'm running the node behind Tor so, to connect to it, you need:

Code:
User: darkv0rt3x
Node ID: 03fef777d58a529df02a3fb267690e0c9033767b555cc1c63844bb2d3498789f91

For everyone but achow and darkv0rt3x (I've managed to successfully open a small channel with both of these).

As a bit of a bump and a question have you guys updated your addresses of your nodes or are they offline? I'm fine leaving them there if they'll be online intermittently but it might be worth marking them as such.

My node is online right now.
I have 3 channels open.

@jackg, can you try to connect to my node again to check what I see in logs, please?

I just tried to open one and I got an error saying the remote peer doesn't support multiple channels?

I don't *think* this is on my end but it could be.

@jackg, I think we need to try to contact the node owners and check if they all still have their own nodes online.

I'm looking for someone to open a channel for some outgoing liquidity and I would prefer to open channels with people from the forum but if they are all offline, then there is no point, I guess.

It's potentially easier just to go through and check which ones work since there's not so many. I'd try DaveF's as I think my channel with them is still open.

Just as a heads-up, my node is online and hasn't been offline for a longer while in months (it did crash about half a year ago, and was offline for a couple of weeks back then)... The problem is my btcpayserver implementation. It's written in .net, and it's slooooow... It regularly times out and shows my node as being offline, while in reality it never went offline, btcpayserver just timed out.

I could add a dot onion to the list if you have one for the node (I thought most function over the dark net anyway as there's no other option for electrum).

I don't have one for the node... I do run some other hidden services (for example, my tbtc faucet is accesible as a hidden service), but not this node.
If i have some spare time next week, i might look into it, i run a tor daemon anyways, so it should be pretty a pretty trivial task to accomplish. thanks for the tip :)

The point was to know if they still have their nodes or if they have a new pub key or something. They could be still running their nodes but for some reason they got a new pub key and address or IP.

I finally managed to set up a permanent node again. Since the transaction fees have been quite high right lately, I am going to gradually open a few small channels in the next few weeks. I should be able to open the first channel today, though.

Also, @jackg why don't you alter darkv0rt3x's node details in the first post so that they look like other entries on the list?

I've added your node to this list.

And I didn't think it was necessary to have them all the same (and they said they were going to update theirs every so often too).

My Lightning node will be down for a couple of days. I decided to move from a Raspberry Pi to a normal server. Unfortunately, LND does not support moving the channel database between different architectures, so I had to close all of my channels. I will reopen them gradually once I have configured my new server.

Mocacinno's link yields the following:

BTC Lightning Node - Unavailable

Hi,

the list in the OP for any clear web (for want of a better description) nodes are all uncontactable.  Is there any chance the list can be updated?

Also as a side comment, having nodes behind an Onion firewall (again, for want of a better description) mean there's actually two Lightning Networks and two main-net block-chains operating in tandem.

Yeah I plan on going through them in a few weeks to see which function and which don't but there didn't seem to be much demand here atm.

I imagine the lightning devs will probably come up with some way to link the two networks if it hasn't already be done as it would be a good improvement to the network (and seems like it'd be possible - you can connect to the light Web over the dark Web though so it might already be possible - they already signed a ct and "redeem info").

Edit: Unfortunately, I won't be able to keep my node up. I hope this changes soon and I can post updated info here again. Good luck and thanks to all of you keeping the network going.

Here's my node info, I've been online for just a month. I'll be looking to add a channel or two every month. My main goal is to support the network and run this sustainably without a profit. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks for supporting the network! I have just opened a small channel to you. Enjoy some free inbound liquidity. By the way, what software is your node running?

Thank you, much appreciated! The node is running RaspiBlitz 1.7 on a Rpi 4.

I can open a channel back as well but wanted to check with you first. I can open an additional 500k sat channel this month if anyone else would like some inbound liquidity.

I have just realized that I haven't balanced out my other channels yet so you won't be able to receive any coins through my channel. I am waiting for the fees to go down again so that I don't have to pay an outrageous miner fee at Boltz (https://boltz.exchange/). It should happen in the next few hours.

I can open a channel back as well but wanted to check with you first.

Thanks, but you should save those coins for someone else ;)

i've setup my first lightning node some days ago (i lost the time...)

some bulletpoints for why you might connect with my node:

  • 24/7 online hosted on a small vps in the netherlands
  • running openbsd
  • running c-lightning
  • accessable over ipv4 and ipv6

i consume und communicate mostly over email, you can find the email on my homepage (https://dalliard.ch) - of course you can also send me a pm to start a conversation, i am looking forward to other people here from the forum running lightning and contributing to something big

For those that I've opened a channel with: I announce that I'll be shutting down mine for personal reasons.
