Nobody knows what tomorrow can be, but the fact still remain that if a coin do not shine this season does not mean it will not shine next season. But before considering this fact, you first need to check if this time will favour holing or not. Best you can do is to follow your mind because this kind question can not be answered by even experts. Follow news all around, make sure you know about the technical analysis and remember your sentiment can go a long way in helping, because the coins did not shine last season does not mean people are not going to still invest on such cryptocurrencies.

I honestly would prefer a new coin where the development's frequent and active rather than old coin because the new coin gonna have higher potential of hitting new ATH meanwhile the old coin might just stuck there (BTC and ETH is exception). But, keep in mind that coin that's new usually carries higher risk since the project isn't having stable foundation yet.

They can't and they will never able to compete with the new coins. So many new coins have been learning a lot from them and the new coins came with the solutions to fix the problem that encountered by the old coins.
You should not invest in the OLD coins and IMO if it's better to bet into the new coins with a proper development progress.
This is my 2 cents. DYOR

You should invest in good coins; it doesn't matter if they are old, or new, or a start up; what matters is that you are able to research and figure that they are a very good token and product that would do well in the long run and give you profits in excess. You should also compare tokens that have same function; but while investing; comparison is a waste of time.

...Should I invest in old coins?

All the old coins listed by you are a good investment object, as they are time-tested and continue to work. Necessarily with the beginning of the alternative season, their price will have to increase several times, bringing a good profit to their owners. And such a price increase should occur not only in relation to the dollar, but also in a pair with BTC.

I think they are more memorable and safer for investing or trading than new coins that just create hype now and then crash in the market. I added old assets and they didn't lose popularity. they are just waiting for the moment to fly back.

just hold on to it while you trade with the new ones. i do have the old tokens you mentioned probably invested more in them than the new ones but i hold on to it. i don't think they are going to be left without mooning as well. the defi tokens though are very much aggressive that if you wanted to earn faster than just holding the old ones, you will be tempted to buy. you have your choice.

Here you have 2 questions and I think if you are interested in an old coin then invest it today before the price goes up.
Competition between old coins and new coins will always be there, old coins have a lot of experience and they will easily develop the existing platform, the fact is that the DeFi platform attracts many investors, new coins are more popular because the price is relatively cheaper Therefore many investors take advantage to buy new coins are cheap and hope the price increases because they have better products than old coins such as multi-coin wallets that support DeFi platforms and instant exchanges that support new coins with cross-chain platforms.

Yes but not all altcoin, From 2017 until today there is ton of Top coin that become worthless since then with so many emerged Innovatice Coin with Improved Concept, Code, Chain, etc, This will continue over time when only the most useful and well developed coin can survice. As you list above so far that still have an good Development it's only EOS and DASH from my opinion, Basically, technology will continue to develop and the strongest will survive the market.

Most new coins are base on hype only, they for short term investment and can't survive as the old coins already have, just as the new coins can pump high so can they dump so easily too, it is risky investing on new projects because nobody knows their actual potential, most of the price are base on speculation and nothing more.

You can also add IOTA to this list of old coins. Back in 2017 it was a top 10 coin market cap wise but it feels to me that it slowly lost relevance in the last 2 years or so.
Then in the end of January the price went up from 0,40 to 1.20 at the moment, but it's still only a 1/4 of it's ATH price.
Those "old" coins in generall need to keep on pushing and delivering exciting news otherwise they will fade into non relevance slowly but surely.

Don't just categorize them as old and new and decide whether to invest in one and not the other. There are old coins which are still doing great until now but there are also old coins which already died. On the other hand, there are new coins which have risen through the ranks and successfully competed against the old coins, but there are also new coins which have already died. Just focus on their individual credentials.

But the old coins that you specifically mentioned in the OP are all respected coins. Personally, I don't mind investing in them.

The coins that you mention have been open for a long time, that means they are very profitable at any time because their products are still running according to what they are targeting this will not be a problem if you have the determination to the old coins then you have to do it.

Remember every year there must be a trend now that DeFi is busy even the decentralized exchange has increased sharply after many successes in the BSC smart contract, therefore I think with the current opportunities you have to be able to profit from old coins and DeF coins, this should be good reason DeFi will still be busy in the market and some IDO sales are now outperforming previous IEOs.

In fact, we cannot predict the future of ancient currencies!! But some profits can be achieved if we can identify the best among them, especially those that always provide solutions and updates.
You can also add these POWR & ADA tokens to the list that I think will be profitable in the long run.
You can also focus on the currencies that contribute significantly to providing solutions to network fees and liquidity flows!

In terms of security, it is clear that the old tokens have a safer value, but on occasions like now the DOT and LINK tokens are also safer in terms of investment and even the development of the two tokens is currently very extraordinary when compared to other old tokens is in crypto.

There's no assurance and we can't say it safe since the volatility inside the market still high,
Old projects that being mentioned are part of those top and supported project way back but
due to competions they are not performing that much unlike with those new performing coin such as
DOT, LINK, and DEfi based projects, where interest is more likely being supported by more traders
and supporters.

You can always check using this two known sites, to make sure that you are following the progress of
any assets that you are planning to store as your assets.

As crypto grew, the old coins did not play much of an important role. we know how the DeFi project took over almost every sector of the crypto industry. even we as bounty hunters have been financed by DeFi quite a bit. (not my promotion, but this is the reality that is now happening).
Returning to the discussion regarding ancient coins, in my opinion only some of them still survive, and even then coins are always innovating, the rest is almost invisible on the surface of the market.

Old is Gold. I don't think it's right in all cases. Over time, many old coins will be lost and many new coins will gain popularity. I don't think it's right to invest in all those old coins. You can invest in any coin from Coinmarketcap's Top Altcoin. And I think that would be the right decision.

Well based on your Definition, old coins are simply put, the ones that are on the top today, like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin and others. I mean they are pretty old by the age of these coins and they have performed superbly that people tend to continue patronizing these said cryptocurrencies. I would not worry about the appearance of the new coins because this is not a popularity contest but simply a matter of evolving in the crypto ecosystem. If the cards are right then I would say that these old coins will stay relevant in the next 20 years.

Depends on what you mean by "compete" if you mean to increase higher that could happen, if you mean going over it, that can't happen, newer coins will take their place.

What happens is that one coin releases, it becomes big, then drops because a newer and better one created and that old one drops a lot, so when a bull comes old one increases more but the marketcap of the new one is higher, so while old one makes 10x profit and becomes 12th the new one makes 3x profit but stays at 4th, that kind of thing, only way for Dot Link or whatever to be surpassed would be actually having a better and greater new coin that would pass these just like how these did to old ones. That happens about once ever 2-3 years and I believe right around 2023 or so we will have a newer and bigger return and profit which would be profitable for old ones and new ones all around.

Yes, I believe so because most of the top-ranking old coins in the market have already a solid foundation to support them. And also it has a huge community of users and investors too. While new projects like Link, Dot, Uni, are just driven by the hype of Defi, and if the Defi hype will go I'm sure those new coins/platforms will be affected much, while the top-ranking old coins will remain competitive as they are.

You can not underestimate them. These coins been so long in the market but still very active and still have a good trading volume which is enough to think that we are safe investing in them.

Defi projects are also progressive, not all of them but something we have to consider. But if we are looking for a long-term investment, I should have to choose the old ones as they have a bigger ROI assurance than these new coins.

But anyway, you can have them both. Consider Defi projects in the short-term while old coins are for a long-term goal. I think it gonna be fair, though.

I have trust with them rather than new coins. We all know that they managed to survive in the market and some of them can't replace in the top 10 cryptocurrency and they have the best security in the crypto world. New coins have the hype attached to them so many people try to invest with them. We cannot yet compare which is good between them unless after new coins will survive after 3-4 years. If we recap what happened to ICO's in 2017, they are also good projects and after 1-2 years they failed.
I think it's safer to invest with new project nowadays but we should also make the same research we always do.

Title: Re: What do you guys think about the Old coins?

The new coins already dominated all of the things in crypto. The old coins can't compete with the new coins. There must be an exception for the privacy coin but it's not so impressive as the new coin did.
It's better if you always deal with the new coin. The old is good but if you are regularly watching various news sites and then the old coins rarely doing big updates unlike the new coins that are always giving big updates.

The old coins less attractive compared with the new coins caused by old coins offered less utility usage compared with the new coins. You should invest when you are feeling confident with it but when you are not feeling it and you may avoid dealing with old coins.

I think a good many of these projects were there to support and supplement the adoption of an early cryptocurrency market, providing multiple choices to choose from. Bitcoin is king, but has birthed many princes, and the earliest coins are like stepping stones on Bitcoins ascending upward path.
There are still some real gems out there, real diamonds in the rough.

Yep especially ETH. Not sure about those other coins you mentioned back in 2017, but it seems like they're still quite known of a coin these days still.
One reason that other people look for farther coins in the ranking is for the opportunity anyway plus lower price, but it is high of a risk.
Some of these older coins deserve to last but most of it just don't.

They might not be in trend right now but we all know that crypto is really volatile and anything could happen anytime so we shouldn't underestimate old yet potential coins. There's always a spotlight for each coin and I'm sure that good old projects still have a chance to boom in the future.

Well if we are talking about the current scenario of crypto market, those "old coins" don't have the ability to compete with the current and existing coins. But who knows what will gonna happen few years from now? That is why I'm still holding coins that I gained 4 years ago.

As long as there are development and technology update, I think they can compete with any existing coins.  The question of whether you should invest or not can be answered by yourself after doing a thorough research and comparison between coins and tokens in the market.  Just make sure that the one you will choose is not over-pumped because you will lose your investment if you had chosen one.

Most of this token has a high market cap in the market means it is trading in high volume in the market some the token like ZEN and DASH is already cost a few hundreds of dollars in the market.

I think lower price altcoins like EOS have a great potential in the future, compared to another token that already has a high market price, this just means that the market is volatile and you cant always expect the price to increase in the coming years.

What happened here is most of the investors from the past years are already selling their holding in these tokens because they need to make a profit and make an exit, meaning the market just needs to circulate when this token drops its prices investors are going to buy this token again. When it comes to altcoin you need an exit strategy not just holding forever in my opinion.

I don't agree with the diagnosis you made for EOS. I believe that this coin has a very high potential, which is able to bring its investor several hundred percent of the profit. I have about 7% in EOS and I plan to increase my number of BTC thanks to this coin paired with bitcoin.

While it can still be OK to invest in those old coins, I believe it will be wise to also invest in the new coins because this new coins have got a lot of hype with what they bring to the crypto space and this has help to push the price up while in my opinion, some of the old coins are also still good to invest in if you believe they will do well.

Do your research, would say. Fond of music field and what I've found out, there is lack on transparency. Found out Utopia that is coming with entirely new standards on the field. Utopia Open Platform (UOP) is the ecosystem for the tokenized song. The UOP receives data from the existing Utopia Music Platform, which collects commercial music consumption and copyright data from numerous sources. Over the past 3 years, it has collected over 3 billion data points. They are redefining the music field, Google, curious to discuss

Some old coins were pretty good in their times and it was so promising when you are witnessing their progress back in the time. But most of them have already fallen to the bottom except for a few. Due to some lack of developments or they cannot find any support from the investors due to some new coins which have the best platform than their current project. Most of the time the good investment is coming from the new coins with the exceptions of the current top cryptocurrencies in the market and the one who invested first or most likely earns the highest possible income. But you need to take heed to the other new coins which emerge because most of them are just created to fool people.

You can invest in any coins on that list, and you can also invest in new coins such as the DeFi project. But one thing that you must remember is that you still need to analyze to find the right coins because all coins at the market can increase at any time, making it difficult to get the right coins. The old and new coins will compete with each other and only with strong support for that coin can get a better position and lift to the better place. Maybe you can take a look at Dash, XTZ, DOT, LINK, and Litecoin, which you forgot to add to your list.

We all have different ways of looking at it. Old or new coins will only be supported by those who hold them no matter what. I for instance hold about 55K of VET which I'm staking that I'm also earning the VTHOR tokens. It's not a huge holding because it's cheap tokens but this had become a passive income at least. It's the same for those who hold EOS who also stake them because they earn from it. I don't support ZEC and DASH because I have nothing of it too.

In the cryptocurrency industry, the competitive adherent among different coins is somewhat challenging, therefore a steady development and improvement makes a coin be still at the top uptill infinity, therefore it's required a coin to develop some in her blockchain while bringing in new infrastructure and utilities, by the way, the old coin you listed above is still a good coin to invest because of their increasing and steady features.

Those coins are still good and not all have potential for improvement, potential ones are mostly the ones with ongoing developments.

That is really an insightful advise. Some Alternate Cryptocurrencies with an stable value right now are very unpredictable because some of them can skyrocket while plummet in value. Following someone that is able to dish out news regarding Cryptocurrencies that you also follow can be beneficial to you because you can copy the decision that he/she is gonna make or you can still follow your gut in decision making. Everything is unpredictable within the Cryptocurrency Industry but you can learn the trends and hear news to create best decisions.

Should I invest in old coins?
I like some of the old names you listed but candidly speaking I don't think there is much value in old coins because especially in the altcoin market, moving forward you have to pick new coins because they are solving some problems from the previous ones.

There are some old coins that are still strong like Ethereum and that is because there aren't many coins that can solve the small problems which the current Ethereum network has. Some analysts see DOT as a giant killer because they feel like DOT might solve a lot of existing problems on the ETH network, I am not sure if they are right but surely new coins are future and old coins slowly lose their grip in the market.

Yeah. Indeed, only a few old coins have survived, especially those with a long-term concept and are always making improvements such as ADA, Tron ,. choose to invest in new and old coins It's making profit. So we can do both of them.

In my opinion, the old coins are still not to be neglected. There are coins like EOS and DASH that continue to evolve and announce good news around them.

EOS has launched an Ethereum-based token. With the new integration, EOS tokens can be used naturally in Ethereum-based decentralized applications. In addition, with pNetwork's forging mechanisms, they can be seamlessly integrated into Ethereum's DeFi and DEX.
In addition, EOS-based decentralized applications can interact with Ethereum in a decentralized manner.

There is also an increasing trade in DASH, with the volume of transactions between traders showing a daily report in the range of $ 2.5 billion. The number of purchase orders is always above that of sales, with the 11 largest crypto exchanges showing a clear accumulation of large holders.

In my opinion, investing in new coins like them has huge benefits for long term. The old coins are now difficult to move fast, maybe only Ethereum is making new ATH. However, it all depends on you. I hope you can make a big profit.
The new coin gives the investors a lot of room to growth. Remember about the old coins are not having it again and i do believe if the old coin can do only 2x - 3x ROI consider it already valued so high compared with new coin. OP should invest in the new coin and forget old coin. These days the majority of new coins with proper development progress already take over the position that owned by the old coin except those were still on top cmc like bitcoin and ethereum.

that should be the reason when investing in new coin much more profitable. So many old coins were dead too

Basically no one can predict the profit and ATH that exists on new coins and old coins, now Bitcoin has reached a new ATH and possibly old coins like Ethereum are also very open to reaching new ATH too, but for new coins, I think it will be difficult to hold on to high prices in the long run even though the short term gains are very visible.

I mean why not? all you need to do is to research these projects you mentioned before. Is there any prominent development among them or any big news that can make people interested to invest. Old token developers should have more experience in handle all the odds in front of them compared to the new one. They have to know what should do when it's come to the market behavior. But of course, it's back in your favor. Research and analysis are a must however, you should use your instinct too.

The value of the old coins was much lower but the price of these coins has not increased yet so the market needs to be properly researched before thinking about the old coins. Choose to invest in currency with market experience and own experience know the market situation and then invest in old coins.

My opinion on old coins is the following - not worth investing if you search for technology, development and progress, but could be a good asset for short term speculation, as its value is proven with time. The technologies goes forward so quick, that once was innovative, in half a year is already old. Same refers to old coins. If you intent do buy an old coins, because the project promised something useful and new - that is not a best idea. For example all these cryptocurrency projects, that ran ICO/IEO in 2020 are already old. They wont succeed anymore. Even DeFi is something old right. The era of NFT is about to be in its full power, so those who wanted to earn on it, might still catch the running train.

Certainly old coins should not be underestimated and the fact that there are new ones does not mean that the old ones are worse than them. In my opinion, there are a lot of old coins that deserve attention.

Those you have listed are doing quite well, the only thing that impressed me is that the 24-hour volume of NANO has dropped to 30 million, which may be a signal of loss of interest from consumers and a possible drop in its price.

The old coins you are talking about are good potential coins and we can trust them and give them some time they will also move in the coming months. I don't think there is any competition between all these coins because all coin's usage is different-different. I believe you can invest in these coins if you have trust in these coins. I feel there is a good scope for these coins if you not bought as yet but due diligence before investing.

when bitcoin price movements hit all-time highs of ATH and several other top coins, only EOS didn't make a significant increase. So far it has only held from the $ 0.4 - $ 0.6 level. maybe there will come a time when coins will make higher upgrades including EOS. but if you are sure and have an EOS coin then just wait .. we all don't know when the coin will experience a sharp increase, who knows the day after tomorrow, next week, or next month the price of EOS will rise sharply.
not only EOS. old coins like TRX and AOA also don't have a good move at the current pump. when the assets that have reached ATH start to stabilize I think it is the turn for the old coins that don't get much movement will take action.
expectations on the current bitcoin market. Hopefully, there won't be a long correction in the market which of course can worsen the state of the coins that aren't moving much at the moment.

Old coins could not complete with the new altcoins available in the market because they could not cope up with the technical updation of the new DeFi projects coming in the market. There are variety of coins based on Ethereum blockchain or some other blockchain which are ruling the market at the current. Moreover there are very few investors willing to invest in old coins Dash,Nano which is why they are not witnessing any growth. The investors have greed of profits and invest in only those coins which are in news these days.DOT coin of Polkadot blockchain have great future ahead and prices are rising due to innovate blockchain technology spread over shards like bridging chain. So you need to move with the market trends if you want to be in profits otherwise holding on the same coins will not give you any substantial growth on your portfolio.

It could be, because old coins which is still existed today simply tells us that all are potential and good coins for investment. The existence of the coins shows us that the coins surpass those ups and down of the price in the market. I'm sure that many can testify how trusted those old coins. Let us always put in mind that investing such coin needs trust, willingness to wait and knowledge on how to handle it.

I still own some EOS in my wallet and sometimes used it in playing in some dApps. The fact that it still able to be useful despite not having too much hype can help to see that there are potential for it to improve soon especially if there are companies who will use it. Only few old coins still able to survive and used up to now. Others already do exit scam especially in year 2018.

ZEC, XTZ good coins but it seems to me that new projects like DOT, LINK more promising.
DOT, LINK is developed long enough and call them new projects is not quite true.
In any case it's good that more good projects appear on the market.

Old coins has their own platform and stable position in the market which is almost absent from new coins. New coins will take time to improve their project to be stable which is not always getting successful as per consumer's demand. Then, it caused the project as dead sometime. New or old, which you choose, just you need to make sure that the coins has the foundation itself to run their project currently.

I keep thinking about things like this too, old coins, new coins, but in the end, it's all the same gamble if you're going into coins thinking there's potential.

You just have to go with what you know. Coins you CAN use and coins you know FOR SURE has utility. And that even if all nothing happens in the market, you can use it, spend it, gamble with it, etc.

Maybe you miss out on x100 coins but really, all the time you save from wondering is better.

if my advice is better for you to invest in old coin, because it is safer and more trustworthy, so that the project won't be a scam, because the project has been running for a long time, but of course the profit you get will not be as big as what you get from investing in a new project (such as DOT, LINK, CAKE, BAKE, BERRY, etc.).

Just because bitcoin was made with old tech doesn't mean it cant compete with the current coins, no doubt the current cryptocurrencies are more advanced, but I still feel these old cryptocurrencies would still stand a chance as long as they constantly improve the project in order to create more demand for the coin and make their coin more appealing to investors, although I still see these old coins you mentioned having some kind of events from time to time, they are still worth investing in even though they are old projects.

This is a different era and there are new coins with too much potential. You shouldn't get stuck by past and try to get on new coins. EOS is already dead, VET made its move, nobody talk about XTZ anymore. DOT and LINK found their fair value. You missed those but you can still make money with new generation DeFi coins. My suggestion is don't waste your time with old coins and look out for new trends. NFT and DeFi is the new trend, I'm sure you can find many good coins with great potential.

There is no real answer to your question because no one foresees the future, but we can only make bets... cryptocurrencies progress very quickly and I believe projects like these will have to keep up if they don't want to lose their share of the market.
In the future there won't be just one cryptocurrency.

The fact that so many old coins already lost their cake due to the massive migration to the new coins. The new coins were doing better than the old coins and this must be their reason to join in the new project instead of wasting their time in the old project that has a very slow development progress.
These days people are so crazy to get profit from the market.
People started to leave the old projects.

If you are referring to market capitalization of course Defi projects have an edge since it is the new hype. However, old coins are still existent since they are already trusted and have a huge community and supporters. Unlike new Defi project which is just starting up and might be overvalued due to market hype. There is no point comparing them since they are uniquely created for different usage and functions.

as long as the CEO and their team are still developing the project they have built, no one knows what the project will be in the future, because I think with the support of the team, the project will be better than it is today. however, the coins have survived from 2017 to the present.

Indeed, old coins already prove that they're not shitcoins for overcoming the bearish market that left some coins dead, meaning they lost their value. But I think it depends on the coin itself, whether its new or not what important is their use case, the development and progress to know if it has potential to become a big thing in the future. Nevertheless whatever you choose make sure to conduct a research because that can lead you to best decision to take.

New altcoins like Dot currently have great potential and are likely to have a bright future for Dot. but there's nothing wrong with investing in Altcoins like EOS, VET, ZEC, DASH, NANO, XTZ. if that old Altcoin you mentioned I would dare to recommend only to Eos for you to invest immediately. Invest if you know the coins you're buying will have significant growth based on what you have researched.

True, instead of choosing Altcoins which are in fact still very risky, it is better to focus on Altcoins that already have good potential and always provide good profits gradually, why look for new ones if the old ones are still very profitable.
To give you an idea, all altcoins except the stable coins are risky. They have their own risk factor depending how huge the coin is.

Old coins are still worth to look at if they still have active development going on. Because the community is already established and you will not be surprised about pump and dump. Usually, their price is more or less stable. And you just need to watch out for whenever they have new updates coming up, as it drives price increase in their market. The advantage of old coin also is they are less prone to disappearing act in the market. Because most new coins, they can disappear without a warning.

Old coins are of course more stable in their development. if they can show progress over the last 3-4 years, that means they have shown their capability as a top coin that we are worthy of investing in
I agree, the stability is the concern.

They wouldn't be chosen by most investors if they didn't performed well all over the years that they're into existence. The main reason why many of us suggests of buying the old coins is that because they're already tested by time.

But not all of them have survived.

Investing in old coins like EOS and DASH is less risky for you and you do not have the risk of falling suddenly with these coins. But the new coins that have entered this digital world give you incredible profits. Look at the LINK chart :

https://s17.picofile.com/file/8428662526/Untitled.png

This chart shows a 200% increase in the LINK price in just 6 months!

Last point: Older coins are less risky and do not show a sudden increase in price compared to newer coins. But you should be more careful in investing in new coins and monitor the market trend.
I agree. The only old coins that are worth sticking to for the long term gains in my opinion are Bitcoin and Ethereum. The rest are just no longer able to compete with the new ones. A great example of this is LINK as shown above. There a few other gems out there... So, it is not over yet  ;)

This is the mistake that newer people do. We know that "old" coins are the real ones that provide a lot of profit, bitcoin, ethereum, bnb, ltc, and many like that, those are the big ones that give you a lot of profit, but they do not realize this and they keep making mistakes, that is why they end up investing into smaller tiny coins with few million dollars volume, that is how the problem was created. You do know why they do this right?

They do it because they have zero clue how things work and they see a 1 dollar coin and think that it could be thousands like bitcoin and that is how they invest into it, there are many idiots who seriously think like that. You hear people "xyz will be new bitcoin!!" and you get what they want, they hope for that coin to 10000x so that they could be rich, they do not think any other stat or fact because then their hopes will go down.

Only EOS, XTZ are a bit disappointing. Most of these coins are great if you bought and kept them before. The market is still the same, new projects appear but look back at the old projects to see that they are also good options for profit, recently witnessed the revival of many old coins. I believe more and start looking for old projects and development opportunities in the future.

Tezos is also a good project that keeps improving and looking for ways to attract more users. Tezos (XTZ) has successfully completed its latest Delphi update, which aims to reduce smart contract fees by 75% to attract decentralized finance developers (DeFi) to build on their blockchain.

Delphi was offered the end of last year a joint venture with Nomadic Labs, Metastatic and Gabriel Algour, designed to help people develop smart contracts for Tezos.

Further improvements based on Delphi's new features are expected to be proposed by Nomadic Labs.

The only old coins that are worth sticking to for the long term gains in my opinion are Bitcoin and Ethereum. The rest are just no longer able to compete with the new ones. A great example of this is LINK as shown above. There a few other gems out there... So, it is not over yet  ;)

For me it's the top five, they are not there for nothing, they are stable in their position in the community, they have developed, they have strong community support, they are listed in the top exchange in the industry and they are on every investor's and trader's portfolio, it's hard to ignore these coins.

Of course they can compete those existing coins. There will be the time for old coins to pump. Investing in the old coins are still good but for me it doesn't matter what coins you to invest old or new coins, as long you research the project and you confidently to hold for long.

Hello Guys,

Coins on top for 2017 like EOS, VET, ZEC, DASH, NANO, XTZ...
Can they compete with existing coins like DOT, LINK, coins on DEfi.

Should I invest in old coins?

I think ZEC, VET ... can still adjust their platform to increase competitiveness.  Though it will be slower, the Defi trend is exploding.  In the crypto space, it is mostly altcoins that need to adapt and activate with good scalability features, if not to lose to better supported competitors.  DOT, Link, Uni are really worthwhile in this new platform.  I am quite optimistic about the next cycles that will focus on allocation, betting, lending ... have come to a big hold.

These are still top ranking coin on the market. But mostly investors are looking forward to new coins. NFT & DeFi trend is attractive and highest profitable. EOS,DASH,NANO still worthy coins but all of these look likes stable price most of the time, so there should be long term investment to get good profit.

Even though XTZ has been supported by many large exchanges such as Binance, it does not yet have the ability to pump. even though the current price on coinmarketcap $ 3.90 is still corrected minus 12%. it's like it needs something for XTZ to keep up with the trend pump like any other altcoin. so that XTZ can be glimpsed by investors

Are they have the potential to rally the market once again? Better to check their price history and to find out if they still have the asset to make revenue otherwise, investing in them is just a waste of time and money.

If we only just consider of what the OP has said. The options are less interesting, we can dig more old coins that are already proven good and profitable, not to risk with these coins as mentioned.

DOT and LINK are good also and I have to choose them than EOS, VET, ZEC, and etc...

After the popularization of stacking feature and the option to hold unique assets with NFTs, old tokens were overcome, as they don't offer any additional benefits or exclusive characteristics to investors. For this reason I see no benefits in investing in old coins nowadays, with rare exceptions. In a market with thousands of currencies disponible, most of them will become outdated and stay behind.
With that in mind, we must always be watching for the next trend in crypto market and what benefits it will bring in order to not lose money investing in the wrong coins.

Old coins are not all worthless because some of them are still active and profitable because of good developments even through the test of time compared to most of the new projects who are only active for months and then they become suddenly inactive because of low developments until they turned into shitcoins and are considered dead.

Almost all old tokens are good where you can invest. You can also identify higher tokens from the coingacko and coinmarketcap sites which make it easier to understand which is the better currency. Since not all of us have the opportunity to be equal in research, I think you should spend your own thinking. You know that the ideas given to us in special cases will not be correct and our research will be of different type.
We may come up with a different result as we research for new projects, some will like it and if we're the traditional ones who's into the old coins, we're going to like it more than the newer ones even if we do researches.
Just like me, I'm more into the old projects, coins and tokens than the newer ones. Even if I see people who are happy taking their profit in the new projects, I'm not jealous of it but instead, I'm happy for them because I have my own portfolio too.

however....
it depends on ourselves where ... there are opportunities for profit that's where we put the investment. because basically, either the old or the new one depends on the prospect of the project being carried out by the project team so that the coin becomes valuable.
we can already observe some of the old coins that have plunged into the abyss and some have survived and flown

I read EOS devs are not active anymore hence we cannot expect it to test its ATH once again. I am just wondering how DASH lost its hype among this community because I am not seeing anyone is talking about DASH as it was one of the prominent coin among this community by the times of 2017/2018 but now new projects are overshadowing on dash, it seems.

New coins like LINK and DOT are highly attracting investors these days but personally I still prefer old coins/tokens like LTC, waves and MTC. I hold then hence I may add some more as well.

I think the old coins can still maintain their reputation and be able to compete with new coins such as DOT and LINK. We can see on CoinMarketCap that EOS is still able to maintain its volume until now, EOS is still in position 29. and there are other old altcoins such as XRP, LTC, and DOGE, which are still in the top 10 position. because the old altcoins still get the trust of the public.

There is a truth that we don't know what can happen in the future. For example, Ethereum is also an old altcoin which was officially released in the market in 2015. But it's still rising and reaching new ATHs.

I am sure you already know the answer, there are 2 factors that can affect the competition of old coins and new coins, Technology and Prices, old coins have technology, ideas and prices are in accordance with the platform and investor interest in the project, we can see Dogecoin can do that with a price increase of more than 400% in 1 week, I think the old coins and new coins will remain the same if I look at it from a technology perspective and the ideas developed, it's just that currently the crypto market trend is bullish and investors know which coins are they have to choose to make a profit.

Old coins tend to be more stable so if you want to invest you have to decide what you prefer.

In worst scenario when the market starts going down old coins will usually drop less and give you more time to exit but at the same time they won't pump as much as some of the new IEO or defi projects and they're in general a bit more expensive.

Nobody is going to make the choice for you. I wouldn't go for new/old but rather focus on fundamentals.

Should I invest in old coins?

I have come to believe that a lot of coins, have their time, that is, most of the coins in top 10-20 in coinmarketcap last year are no longer there as they have been overtaken by upcoming coins, but however, only few tends to keep going up. So talking about old coins, they tried their best during their early days and also trying their best which is why they are still among the top, but talking about competition, nowadays we are talking about DeFi, which is currently trending, so there is every tendency that upcoming coins will compete with old ones and even overtake them. Also, when another trend sets in, a group of new coins might overtake others, so you can see this is all about trends but what matters is every good coin maintaining their features while improving on them, because every day comes with new ideas and opportunities which will keep driving the crypto space higher.
NFT is coming up soon, you never can tell which coins will be pushed down the rank and those that will come up. Therefore in my own opinion, if you see an old coin which have the features and use case you want, whose team are also ready to work, then there is no problem investing in them.

op should be more specific, add the criteria by which potential old coins whose product and project development continues and is used up to now. the most advantageous are those that are widely used and have real functions.
I prefer older functional coins, like XRP. New coins also have a lot of potential but are often used for pump and dump, it is difficult to predict the direction of development because of most hits and runs.
everything must have its risks, make sure we understand it so you can avoid regret and loss.

As work of roadmap as projects could gain high volume, which means price must be higher. Promise projects are always good as they complete their tasks on time. So bad news is really effective as CEO of EOS blockchain. By ignoring bad news, you can buy high volume altcoins. Vechain and NANO are good, where we still don't know the accurate demand of new altcoins.

Yes, you can always pick old coins if you have no other coins among thousand of coins.

They may can't compete with new top coins, but in terms of "okay" profit, you can pick DASH and other old coins. It's not the greatest profit you can get, but it's a good additional income for us to fill your bag.

I think the old altcoins are the best altcoins for us to invest in. because old altcoins have been proven to be able to survive and develop in various market situations. and older altcoins are less risky because they can recover prices that have fallen. and the potential for more profit than new altcoins.

Old coins have their reputation and those coins still have the ability to increase in price. So it won't be bad to invest on those crypto. But maybe they won't be able to get their position at top of the marketcap where they were staying in past. Time changes a lot of things. Coins like DOT and LINK has gained large attention of investors in recent time. The team behind those old coins aren't working like these new trending coins. XRP, LTC and EOS having good position in crypto market but none of them able to break it's previous ATH yet.

There are few more new coins having good position in crypto market. All of them have different market strategy to attract investors than those old coins. UNI and CAKE are some good example of those coins.

Many coins started been unknown to the society but after some years they came up to do something good in the society, from my own opinion no coins is meant to be left alone irrespective it influential and no influential in the society, we can fine it worthy of emulation if it happened to dominates others, for example ethereum started with small process but today ethereum is a super coin and that will be applicable to other coin's.

It can't deny that some of these coins are already been surpassed by new projects. Because honestly, these coins are becoming useless. That is why I don't have the courage to buy and hold them even before as they don't show such impressive market growth. We even just got a higher price when there is Bullrun and that it looks no good for me. They are still running but some coins don't seem too hype for the current trend, some are persistent like vet, neo, which are still in part while dash, eos and others are starting to be replaced by new defi projects as you mentioned.
If this is the trend for now and in the future they should migrate or collaborate with other projects that develop it.
Maybe the project will continue to fall behind if it doesn't have an update.

Some of them have potential and a vibrant community. Dash has a very large community and ongoing development. The answer to your question would be to check how active and goal oriented the community and the development is and whether you thing that is something that could be of value in the future.

Then sure, why not pick an old coin. Not every single new one will be the next big thing just because it is new.

Old coins or new coins, does it really matter,?? If you search coinmarketcap, alot of old coins are doing very well, likewise some are doing very bad too, so it is with new coins as well, as most are doing very well, most are doing very bad too, what is most important is that you as an individual and investor, you do your research and know what's best for you to invest in, don't follow peoples opinions cus they might be wrong though sometimes, they might be right too, but this is why you need to always do your own research cus this will help you tell when people are telling the truth about a project and when they are telling lies, don't follow the crowd blindly cus they might be leading you astray.
A coin, whether old or new, is an investment vehicle, they all have their different levels of risks and also different level of gains, go with the ones you are most comfortable with.

I just anticipating such possibilities, and aside from that, I'm thinking of more assurance. That is why I have to take the other option.

Just like the recent successful coins we have now, those old coins were in their primes way back. Maybe they weren't able to reign for a long time at the top due to the sudden dump that occured last 2017 but still, they made their name on the crypto market at some point. The new coins have the upper hand at the moment but there are still some old coins that was able to survive and stay stable. Considering the consecutive ATH achieved by bitcoin, some old coins were able to rise up together with it too. We cannot belittle those old coins, sometimes they are even better at some new coins that eventually turns into shit coins.

- Priority but mostly just short-term potential projects, they update the right trend, they develop according to the needs of the market and the community will help them increase their prices but all are within such scope, long-term levels of value are difficult to achieve as new things are constantly popping up in crypto. Old coins are not under the pressure of growth because they already hold their niche, they don't need to compete, they just need to do their job well and in the end, the money from the new coin will flow back to them.

Not all old coins are showing stable growth; I have seen some of the old coins got delisted from exchanges.
Still, I believe we can go for older coins like litecoin and waves because these other coins always having good reputation among this crypto community.

When there are enough supporters for the any old coin then that will have definite bright future but given that it should not be having heavy competition like how ethereum is facing against binance.

Hello Guys,

Coins on top for 2017 like EOS, VET, ZEC, DASH, NANO, XTZ...
Can they compete with existing coins like DOT, LINK, coins on DEfi.

Should I invest in old coins?

I think the old coins are still the best because they can compete with new altcoins today. even though it has been a long time, they continue to make improvements and innovations to develop their altcoins in order to gain the trust of every user. and new altcoins now may not necessarily last like old altcoins, although new altcoins are currently more popular than old altcoins.

Don't just look whether it's an old coin or a new coin, just look at its development, old coins are supposed to be more developed as they had existed for a long time already, that should be the basis not how old it has stayed. It's not the name also, but the potential of the coin, we should be smart in choosing the right investment as it's too risky to just invest blindly with a very simple basis.

I think EOS is not good, i still haven't see any significant price movements on EOS market.
DeFi coins are like a new opportunity for investors, that's why they prefer DeFi coins and old coins will be hard to compete with that.
The only old coins that good are BTC, DOGE and ETH (many DeFi projects here).

These are "old" coins? LOL.. When I saw the topic, I was thinking that the OP may be referring about the earliest altcoins, such as Litecoin, Namecoin.etc. EOS is not that old. It was first released in January 2018, after the major altcoin rally of 2017. And once upon a time, it ranked among the top-10 coins in Coinmarketcap. But now it has fallen outside the top-25 list and seems to be on the decline. The same can be said about most of the other coins mentioned by the OP, such as Dash and Zcash.

In my opinion, it's better to invest longterm in very safe,  useful, well decentralized coins that you can easily run their nodes in order to fully control your assets and take part in network consensus.
I wonder how long the new coins will run before it becomes difficult for users to easily run their full nodes? I think It should be between 5 — 50yrs. I believe it can be well over 50years for the Very Decentralized ones. Some of the new cryptocurrencies became difficult to run by average people in less than 3yrs. I would honestly avoid investing in them long-term. And I wouldn't invest in or contribute to substandard coins even short-term

investing in old coins minimizes losses a little if the market is bad, old coins will also thrive in everything, and old coins can also be profitable at any time because the product is still running as they target. but to be honest for EOS I wouldn't and never would have invested there

For new coins I think you have to be very careful if you want to invest, because sometimes new coins rely a lot on Fomo,

if I play new coins always hit and run

for old coins not all coins do have the latest updates even some coins have died in vain. for EOS I am also not sure about the coin, EOS is not consistent with what was rumored for the first time when it was launched there was even an issue saying that EOS will become a big coin in crypto, but all that is now gone and EOS is still EOS. we don't even know when EOS will rise

Of course they can depending on their coin's utility and the community behind them. If a coin is from a great project that have real world use case and can help make lives of many more easier, then the more so that they can compete. Just because they're old, doesn't mean they become ueles or cannot be subjected to improvements. You just have to read more and kearn more about which us better from one coin to another there is no shortcut in making good investments.

Just being an old coin alone cannot be a criteria to invest or hold with, I agree. Old coins with real world applications are still surviving but few of them might got dumped heavily due to lack of promotions. I mean just having potential alone will not ensure success of a coin but devs must need to work hard in order to make their coins reaching the right people.

I am still holding lots of old coins and I am believing into its futures. When I was investing I just looked for potential and how they might serve people in real world. This way I am holding few of privacy oriented coins and dapps coins.

For the old coins it's all about the work the projects team are putting in terms of marketing to let people know what the coin can offer because the market has to many coins competing for adoption(usage) but then again these newer coins could have come from ICOs so they could have the money to market their product which the older does not have!

Of course, old coins can compete with new coins, it's just that the developers and their teams have to make a breakthrough or change to improve the quality of these coins, so that old coins can compete with new coins, and for investment options on old coins, it's better for you to analyze them first, cause if at the time of the bull run the coin price did not go up, it would be difficult to go up in the future

If the old coin has no price cracks on the market then you should just leave it and don't invest in that coin, you should choose coins that have great developers and there is movement in the market such as BNB, Eth, Ada, and Polkadot.

Your proper knowledge with the market movement will guide you to choose between old and new projects.

as we go forward, there are still old coins that still moving after Bitcoin pumped up, the value of those old

projects became interesting, but like what you've said, if there's nothing from the developing team better to

stay away and follow new projects that contiue to develop.

yes, that's my perception. i don't want to waste time trading in altcoins which the developer doesn't support. investment in digital currency is that we make the choice and only we alone can manage our finances, as well as the choices we will choose. in my opinion like that.

These old coins have their own purpose and place in the crypto industry. In addition, over this rather long period of time, they have proven their significance. This is confirmed by their market price.
New crypto coins have the same risks as old ones, however they do not have a positive, time-tested history.

If we know it is dead, we can just sell it and find other coin.

There will always be competition between old coins and coins, but I think it's better to invest in new coins.

I wonder what exactly is the relevance between DOT, Link, and all the DeFi, with coins like Dash and Nano.
They are on a completely different level which is not comparable.
Dash and Nano are about adoption as cash and do not have a lot to do with DeFi. You should be comparing apples with apples and not with cucumbers.

some old coins will indeed be very valuable in the future, the most difficult thing is to determine which coins will be very valuable in the future, because not all old coins will rise again, most old coins lose to new coins which are more innovative and interesting, therefore old coins will only be trash that will never rise
We only need to invest in old and reputable coins such as bitcoin, ethereum, doge or XRP. You can also invest in Ada or any other old coins that arise on the top 100 on coinmarketcap

However, during the alt season, it is the best to buy new coin, defi project and NFT related cryptocurrency. They bring more profit and higher ROI than usual coins. I have seen my friends participating in initial coin offerings and proliferate the capital to almost 10 times.

every coin has its own uses, each coin has a different and unique job, that is why you will see a token or coin partner with each other because there are things that they can't do alone if you can see some latest coins are trying the catch up with other old coins, you can't actually be called it old coins in the first place, latest coins exist because of the coin's release before them.

For the altcoins mentioned as @op, until now, they still have a lot of enthusiasts because of the community and high market cap. However, if the old altcoins that were conceptually formed with the ICO I observed in the years 2017-2018 are now mostly dead projects because there is no clarity update. For people, my advice is to be careful in choosing tokens to invest in the long term

Roadmap can be updated but usually they all have a core technology that they stick to. If it is a certain technology they need to improve that and show that it is worth using that coin. If they stop to develop it what is the point of using it?

It is not that easy for old coins because the expectations are so high. It is easier for a new coin to set new rules and news expectations.

My best bet is going for the new coin. I've learnt a lot from the industry and I've come to know that the new coin most times come with new technologies and it takes a good development team to continue with a project after a long time. Most developers tend to abandon the project after facing through some set backs on the project.

The advantage of olds coins is possibly their stability and the solidified community. I had a lot of expectations for ZEC and XTZ. Perhaps these two coins can demonstrate a good result in the future and please all those who have invested in both. The disadvantage of the olds coins is the technology possibly.

New coins are performing better now definitely because of new ideas in the development.

But, I've doubted these coins.
Honestly, they are in a declining situation. Because as we can see now, the new coins are very hot and show aggressive market growth but the problem is that it never finds sustainable. And these new projects will replace by the other new projects.

So I suggest, invest only in Bitcoin or you might consider ETH and BNB. That supposed to be a long-term investment.

I don't think they will be left without mooning also. the defi tokens however are a lot of forceful that in the event that you needed to procure quicker than simply holding the old ones, you will be enticed to purchase. In this way numerous financial backers exploit to purchase new coins are modest and trust the cost increments since they have preferable items over old coins, for example, multi-coin wallets that help DeFi stages and moment trades that help new coins with cross-chain stages.

Dogecoin too is superbly performing right now and I pity the original developer who sold his coins I think a long time ago. Anyway, you all know the advantage of the old coins is really their stability and the community that is behind the coin which is always solid. I do have a lot of expectations when it comes to some of the coins I invest like XTZ. I do hope that they will get some good result in the near future.

No one knows for sure about the movement of old coins in the future, because there are a lot of old coins that are not at all glimpsed by investors, but if the developer and his team make moves so that these coins are quality in the eyes of investors and traders, I sure coins can compete tight with new coins now
Depelover certainly has a very important role so that the coins it owns can attract more investors and traders so that the trading volume can increase. Developers need a massive promotion of the coins they have made and are even known as old coins so that many people who are involved with cryptocurrencies can find it back.

Hello Guys,

Coins on top for 2017 like EOS, VET, ZEC, DASH, NANO, XTZ...
Can they compete with existing coins like DOT, LINK, coins on DEfi.

Should I invest in old coins?

Yes I think you should start accumulating and buying to some of these old altcoins such as EOS, VET, LTC, BCH and XMR because they are starting to wake up having a slightly pumping this altcoin season.

Among the old coins you can invest in EOS, XLM, TRX. If you invest in these, you can expect something better in the future. Their platform are great. I hope these coin will big pump again.

If a coin had performed well in 2017, then it is not guaranteed that currently those coin will Rise.Always follow the trend. There are hundred of old and new coins that have strongly project ,clear Road Map, well Reputed Team.

New coins can only survive when it is trending after that many of them die and disappear slowly, whereas old coins have undergone many tests and can remain for the long term

still with old coins as a long term investment is much better

When viewed from the growth and development of new coin prices such as DOT, LINK, and DEfi it looks like the old altcoins will continue to lag behind and cannot compete with it. but in my opinion it really depends on the developer himself. if the developer is consistent in developing then maybe the old coins will also rise again. like that in my opinion

You are right, at this moment, it's easy to see the hype and if the developers are working, there's no reason the development will not be notice then people will just speculate as they love doing that, old coins that do not pump this season are those that don't make significant developments of the project, that's the real story here, and why would we invest on old coins when there are news coins that has a great potential?

My best bet is going for the new coin. I've learnt a lot from the industry and I've come to know that the new coin most times come with new technologies and it takes a good development team to continue with a project after a long time. Most developers tend to abandon the project after facing through some set backs on the project.
There are a lot of projects and we should be aware of our decisions, definitely about new projects. That is why most of them can get shit easily in the future, for that we should make hard research about the project which we want to invest in. New projects can be great choices for investment if you make enough research about this project. Old projects are most safety and there is less risky investing in them.

Among the most legit ones are mostly coins that are in fact old in crypto terms. Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Stellar, Dash etc. They all have a relatively strong eco system although the analysis isn't that easy to do as their is also a coin like Dogecoin on that list. All kinds of different coins with their own, and often times special value proposition.

But among the OP's Listed altcoins, it sounds like we are having bad days investing with them. Anyway, I can't sure about their future but I don't have an interest in them.

Very Interesting, There is nothing wrong with investing in old coins as you mentioned above, but it's good to see and choose which coins continue to improve their performance both events and others. I am sure they are able to position themselves and compete with the coins that are currently uptrend.

Anything can happen with the prices these days (you've seen Doge) but in terms of utility, use-case and scalability some of the old chains are a bit outdated. It is really hard to change something that is already running and it is easier to start it again.
Right now some of them are still providing good security, some of them are relying only on the community but without the old coins we could not be where we are right now.
I mean diversity is really good for crypto space.

Well, there are advantages and disadvantages to investing in old coins and new coins like for example, new coins are more profitable right now as they are in hype so the profit is much faster but bear in mind that they are riskier than the old coins. Old coins manage to live up til now without the hype and we can conclude that the foundation was strong, unlike new coins where we don't even know if they will survive when the cycle is over. Anyway, whether new coins or old coins they can be still profitable but not all of them that is why make sure to do proper research for you to be able to determine which are good and which are not.

I do not devide altcoins into old and new, I devide them to probably profitable and probably not profitable.
The only advantage (which is an disadvantage also) old altcoins have is their reputation. Failed once and this will last during altcoins entire life. Show a success, and people will remeber it for a long time (but just a little failure easy crosses huge success).

Most of the old coins that still alive like you mention EOS has already a working product that generates profit for the project itself that's why it's good to invest with them because they are already successful project compared to new project that is just a paper and idea without an actual working product. Old dead coins was already not active anymore so the market was consist of Successful old coins and bunch of new coins.

it is difficult to predict the growth between old coins and new coins, today I still hold some old coins whose value has no meaning at all and there are some coins that I hold that have disappeared in the market, for that, be smart in investing, keep looking for the latest information,  it could be that the old coins that you hold in value continue to reach the peak.

Actually, they are still alive because investors saw their potentials than the others and that is a thing we can't be ignored as it was a big factor why they still exist despite the market challenge and also a massive increase of projects this time. At this time, I have to believe that old coins are somewhat more trusted than the new projects, in fact, the majority of these projects are worthless and scammy. We can't certainly put trust in them compared to the old projects.

I didn't want to say all of the ten in the top because I have my doubts about DOGE and XRP, but generally speaking you are of course right that they didn't just disappear into oblivion and left bag holders with worthless coins behind. The further you go down the list the more speculation and gambling is involved in regards to those coins' chances to survive. For most of them it is make it or break it because if they don't make it you don't need them.

Between all coin that you mention, I think VET and NANO is the best one. As long as the team wants to make the project better and keep updating and promoting the benefits of the project to the public in the media, the old project will become a crypto asset that has the BIG potential and the price will increase. VET/ Vechain already has many partnership and consist of strong team. And for NANO, the cyrculating suply is fixed and can not be mining or minting again, with less fee and quick transaction will make the crypto community like it even more.

I think most of the old coins are overloaded too much. There is too much money in them. Too many people have bought them in too high positions, and now it is very difficult for them to get off the ground.
Of course, during a bull run, the entire market grows, but new projects show much more impressive numbers, although they are more risky investments.

As you can see, all the top altcoins that appeared a couple of years ago are still at the top places in the cryptocurrency market, and many of these top altcoins are still updating their capabilities and technologies, and if you will look at the trading volumes of these old top altcoins, you can still see that these cryptocurrencies daily trading volumes are still very huge and, of course, most of these old top altcoins have grown in value to new heights and therefore investing in these old top altcoins is not a bad idea.

Both old coins and new coins each have their advantages. The advantages of investing in old coins include that these coins have a more mature concept and handling of failures because of the process they have been through to survive until now.
Meanwhile, new coins also have the advantage of being more popular so that their development is more rapid.
so in my opinion there is nothing wrong with investing as much as you can in old coins.

There are a lot of good old and new coins in the market right now. Usually, the new ones, especially that product of hype won't last long. I personally have trust in coins which has been around for years and has already built a solid foundation.

This is why I'm still hodling my Stakenet XSN no matter what happens. Lots of exciting developments are going on right now under its wings ;)

Old coins are good enough to invest, However, they still have to have developments that follow the trend, For example if we are now on a defi trend, They either have to follow it or they will be abandoned, or they find a problem solver that is in cryptocurency they will be much in demand.

If you want to invest in old coins, you should first see how they are progressing. old coins can still go up but not too high when compared to new coins such as ADA, UNISWAP and DOT. but I prefer to invest in old coins because they are more tested and are not a scam

Title: Re: What do you guys think about the Old coins?

They might not be in trend right now but we all know that crypto is really volatile and anything could happen anytime so we shouldn't underestimate old yet potential coins. There's always a spotlight for each coin and I'm sure that good old projects still have a chance to boom in the future.

The old projects that are currently in demand are those that survive at least in the coinmarketcap #30, it is good enough to be invested, If what is mentioned above I think is still worth investing in, Right now is a new defi trend, I prefer DeFi coins will grow faster for the medium term. And old coins for the long term.

Title: Re: What do you guys think about the Old coins?

If you are referring to market capitalization of course Defi projects have an edge since it is the new hype. However, old coins are still existent since they are already trusted and have a huge community and supporters. Unlike new Defi project which is just starting up and might be overvalued due to market hype. There is no point comparing them since they are uniquely created for different usage and functions.

The presence of DeFi is also because they hitchhike on the old coin chain, Ethereum, and the old coin remains an option as a long-term investment coin. And DeFi is very suitable For the short term, DeFi is quite interesting because it can invest and can be interesting whenever we want, DeFi is quite popular because the exchange is quite easy, I'm sure the developers of old coins also pay attention to the concept of defi.

It is true that we need to research and analyze it more deeply if we really want to invest in old coins,
it does require extra effort but I don't think it is a problem so that we can make the right decisions,
what is clear is that both new coins and old coins for me can generate profits only for us

not only good, however, I think the potential for old coins is huge. that's because, until recently they were still around, and most of them were popular coins. So, choosing one of them is the best. Currently, the price is decreasing, so I think this is the right time to make an observation for the coins that are in our portfolio. So far, I've only been thinking about holding popular coins like Ethereum and BNB. I'm pretty sure both coins will expand when the pumping occurs.

We didn't see much of old coins with strong use cases perform well during this bull season, nevertheless EOS tested the run by moving on a scale of high speed unfortunately dip happened and it retraced a bit. We can't give you an accurate information on how they will perform but, old coins with value will continue to dominate once the market tries to recorrect once more.  So, try and do your due diligence by evaluating what you're buying and considering to HODL for a long time.

Those are exceptions because they are indeed old but on the top rankings after a decade. The old coins been talking is to those coins who are almost in age of those
older coins in the market.

Some of them are indeed undervalued but since the developer or the team behind had already left the project then it turns out to be abandoned and its just a waste.

I don't consider on investing into those old coins in the market because the newer ones is much more better in terms of tech and functionality but of course you would
need to choose carefully.

All the old coins that are mentioned were truly potential coins. Other than VET and Zcash every other old coin mentioned in the opening post have provided with a good ROI on the investment till date. So, there is nothing to fear and have an comparison will these coins stand against the Defi's. As per my understanding right now holding old coins is truly a good choice. Particularly I see big growth to happen with EOS among the list.

In my opinion, an old coin doesn't matter when it still has a very high demand, it can provide lots of good opportunities because it can make the price increase to be expensive and of course there will certainly be many developments that can be launched and have a lot of investor support as happened on bitcoin or dogecoin.
alot of old coins reach their roadmap in this year or in the past, they could work and realize all their plan well so create demand in market. its really different with new coins which is still in developtment progress and have possibility to quit or scam. roadmap and produce will be main our concern when research on project , no matter its existing or new project.

I remember Dan Larimer coins were all the hype back in 2017. BTS, EOS, and STEEM all had huge bull runups.

I personally don't think that these old coins can survive. There is no real use for them anymore, there is very little real adoption of their platform and in general they were quite overpriced in their heydays.

Essentially, they're stuck in this no-mans-land. They don't have the first mover's advantage like BTC that brings with it recognition and trust, nor do they have the new technology that is now all the rage. Pump and dumps aside, they will likely taper off eventually just like the previous generation of alts.

I agree because the demand for old coins is much lower in the market these need to be thoroughly verified before investing. Many times they are scammed so you have to analyze the value of the project and think about the old coins newcomers are more vulnerable to the issue of old coins.

There are a lot of old coins that show that they still have the ability to expand the ecosystem and grow it. I'm not too concerned with whether a coin is new or old, but I'm usually interested in what it will do in the crypto space. So, with just the right knowledge and understanding, new or old coins are no longer a problem.

Old coins are also a good investment option. But again, you need to analyze everything. For example, Doge is an old coin, and what was the rise. So it's too early to discount some coins.

Among the old altcoins I'd especially recommend Monero and Zcash because it will definitely be demand for what these alts provide. In general, you should search if a coin satisfies some real current or future.

Particularly I really like the PoW coins, precisely the Old Coins, because I think they were mined just because they liked it and there were no prices and values involved, that is, it was a joke, nowadays it is missing. I don't consider those coins you mentioned Old Coins, but regarding this list, the thought is, if it has no use for financial speculation or day-to-day it will fall by the wayside, prices will reflect that.

The coins you mention are good coins and even one can rely on these coins they have the potential and can rise anytime on the other hand new coins like DOT and Link are also doing good. One should always diversify their investment to reduce the risk.

in the long run, it's actually difficult to choose a really good asset from a new project. who knows the 2017 project that can survive and succeed to date?
assets from old projects that have lasted several years in the market with good market development are certainly very worthy of our possession. LINK and DOT will probably be amazing 2-3 years in the future. isn't that pretty much the same as BNB 2-3 years ago.

in investing does not look at new or old coins, if there is an opportunity to make a profit invest it,
but if you are afraid to take the risk, invest in old coins and those that have entered to 10 coinmarketcap

of course they can op because they are old coins and old coins are trusted and have more experience than the new one but new coins can have new features that cannot be found in the older coins but they must first build their reputation  .
go on and invest more on old coins if you havent get enough of them .
you can buy some new coins too but dont hold longer if you saw a strange movement .

In fact, these old coins you mentioned have great potential, at least they are much more reliable than some new project tokens. Their decline is only temporary. For example, eos, the prospects of eos are indeed good, but in the future. Not in the short term. The rate of return during the year is still there, but not a lot. I think that coins that can survive for a long time have their advantages. Many of them optimize the shortcomings of Bitcoin and provide innovation, and many of the new project tokens that are launched now are just to harvest people’s wealth, and then the project side It's gone, of course, there are some new coins that have great upside potential. I suggest that you can invest a small amount in old coins, and most of the funds should be invested in mainstream cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.

With the development of the blockchain, countless cryptocurrencies are issued every year. For example, the hottest token in 2017 still exists and remains popular this year. It can be promoted to more cryptocurrency users during its existence. It is very friendly to the development of tokens. Holding old cryptocurrencies can still bring you higher returns. Just like btc and eth, the tokens will not lose competitiveness due to the passage of time, but their status will be deeply rooted!

There is nothing wrong with old coins if developers and communities still exist. The most important thing is about the development of the project or usecase. What we need to do is depth research because we don't know how the future going on but sometimes the risk can be minimized if a coins have a strong community and fundamentals

Old coins mught not give you the 500x profit. But the fact that they lived 'till this moment gives faith. BTC is the oldest but still the most valuable. I'm holding LTC and ETH and feeling safe about it.

- Their experience is time living with the market full of pitfalls, it's quite useful for existence but they are quite rudimentary in feature development and their development has reached certain saturation points, months to a few changes and years to a few new upgrades, we will be quite boring to wait for a diversification from them while new coins are more active in this diversity. But youth is perhaps carelessness with innocent steps. Sometimes many projects are shaken by pitfalls, it is difficult to be on par with old projects.

This totally makes sense, although it is not bad to invest with old coins, the market movement resulted from buying behavior of new generation enthusiasts has been shifted. Today, trend is something that must be kept in mind because this will highly benefit an investor by pursuing coins that are currently in demand and have higher price. Although in reliability and sustainability, old coins have indeed potentials but research on its profits and market trend must be done because new practices can hurt such potentials.

I think old coins are coins that have good prospects, the proof is that until now they are still surviving and growing in a crypto, although the growth is relatively slow, but the value is very stable, so it has a high integrity.  Compared to new coins, and is very suitable as long-term investment.
Like Bitcoin and Ethereum it is an old coin and both still survive and remain the top coins,
both coins are also very good for long-term investment because every year they increase,
but indeed for now both bitcoin and ethereum have decreased so that it also has an impact on other coins

Maybe no, their trend has been ended, now it is the time of new and potential coins which are developing very fast and adding many new and interesting things in their project. People always follow those whom they are interested in. Cardano(ADA) has become famous so many people are interested in it and investing their money. You can see other old coins like Binance Smart Chain and Ethereum. They are still famous because their team is working and updating new things daily.

Depends on you, how know and understand about that project you want to invest. If the old coins suits with your profile investment then you should go to invest on it, but i personally prefer to invest on new coins especially NFT project.

bitcoin and ethereum are indeed decent coins to invest in, but I think they are not sure to increase every year, because the market is volatile, and we see bullruns again after 4 years. therefore we must be able to take advantage of the moment, because we do not know how long the bullrun will happen again

LOL.. going by your definition, most of the coins in top 10 right now are "old coins". Bitcoin was invented in 2008 and was first mined in 2009. Ethereum ICO happened in 2014. Ripple's initial release was on 2012. In case of Cardano, the ICO started in 2015. Dogecoin was first introduced in 2013. So going by your definition, almost all of the top coins are "oldies". Among the top 10, I could find only Uniswap, that was created at a later date (created in 2018 by Hayden Adams and listed two years later in 2020).

If you are talking about coins that became obsolete after 2017, then there is a point. One example is TRX. Used to have a market cap of $15 billion. The current market cap is less than 1/4th of that.

Yes, but if we look at Bitcoin's history to date, Bitcoin has already provided more than 500x profits for users and holders, so don't underestimate the old coins that are still alive just because new coins are deliberately pumped to attract the attention of many people.
If the price of old currencies goes down it will take a long time to go up new currencies usually try to pump in the market. I think bitcoin and ethereum are the best of the old currencies even if the price of these goes down, it will go up again there is no chance of getting lost most of the old coins are scammed.

It's up to you mate, no one can predict what will happen to these coins, On my part, I am not into old coins cause I dont think that they would be profitable in the future especially those in the inactive community. I am into new crypto coins as I can earn money from them only for a week, the thing about new coins is that it is only good for short-term investment so when I already gain x3 I will pull it out right away.
yes, it all depends on your decision. it's just, I see old coins have greater potential than new coins if held for a long time.
I am currently holding some new coins, whose initial listing price on the exchange is higher than the initial price. but, slowly, the price is falling, even very deep. however, I've held ethereum long term, and the price has been getting higher and higher. well, do your own research. but, right now, I'm also stuck on the new coin.

look at price historical , its true bitcoin price will rise alot based on 4year cycle after halving. but don't forget in cryptocurrency market , fundamental was very dinamic and it can change anytime . Based on price history , this quarter should be most bullish but unfortunately we see all cryptocurrency drop hardly. Beside bitcoin and ethereum, there are alot coins have same potency like bitcoin and ethereum have. We just didn't find it yet and only lucky investors could be the early investors.

Looking at the current trend it seems difficult for old coins to compete with new platform Defi, I've also sold my old coins such as EOS, Waves, Ethereum classic, and Monero. I just save my money and survive in this crypto.

Is it not a crazy thing that a project only a few years old can be considered old in this space? And Defi coins are even worse, if it is 2019 it is considered old and that is not even two years old!

Just goes to show the hype industry of defi and how short their lifespans are. If you think TRX is obsolete now,,, How about Waves:) I feel sad every time I think about it!

The problem with 'Old coins' is they have refused to evolve and/or follow up on their roadmap. Some have remained stagnant with no evident partnership or breakthrough for months. And that's enough for the 'New coins' to take over the market. Some old coins like Litecoin are bucking the trend

The new coin is innovative on the basis of the old coin. If you like the old coin and don't care about profit, you can invest in the old coin. My suggestion is that if it is a valuable coin, whether it is new or old, it is worth investing. It is not that only new coins are good coins, and no one will say that only old coins are worth investing in. , But investment is risky. The current new currency has the risk of speculation. You still need to understand it before you plan to invest in the project.

The Old coins cannot be said to be bad coins either because many old coins are still good and stable today. Although many also don't have a price because it has been eroded by new coins that are currently popping up. If you really want to invest, I think investing in new coins will be better because at this time there are also many new coins that have good prospects. So I think it's good to get the profit as desired. It all depends on what coins that we invest, whether good or not.

Should I invest in old coins?

It is the most difficult question on the crypto market what coin to choose exactly for long-term investment. Of course, it is easy to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum, we all believe in them. But they are unlikely to grow so significantly like different altcoins. Personally I, when choosing a new coin for long-term investment, base on investigation of ideas, team of devs, community and social media.

All are good project coins you mentioned above in the post but no one can predict what will happen with new coins that you are comparing with old coins. It depends on the project dev if the dev is active we can expect growth If the dev abandons the project we can not expect much from that project and my friend you never know the existing coin you mentioned can also rise anytime as you know it's a highly volatile market. You can invest in any coin till you have faith in it and has potential.

I believe that the old coins from the top 200 are at least those projects that continued to work even in the most difficult times, and they went through fire and water.
Having passed severe tests, they were able to stay afloat, which means they are safer than unknown new ones.

Should I invest in old coins?

If you want fast incomes you should definitely follow trends. Because old coins often become unpopular. Of course, if it is essential to support some popular systems, we can’t get rid of it, so we can hold such coins that have something valuable under them. And talking about trends, there are cases when even useless things increase by many times, for example, meme coins.

For now you don't need to invest in old coins, considering the prospects are not good, the chances of them competing today are small, considering the number of new coins that have sprung up the prospects are better and promising for now, you just need to look at market conditions carefully to invest true and correct.

You can try to invest in Dot, Link and Defi coins, for now the market opportunities are better, but don't forget to analyze before you invest, see market movements and potential increases in selling prices, because not all new coins also have good potential.

I have some reservations about the old coins. Generally, I invest in valuable coins, but many altcoins are not always rising, but many new coins are scams and need to be careful.
some new coins are also worth investing. They have innovated on the basis of the original old coins. Investing in altcoins is to seize the opportunity.

old coins will continue to compete with new altcoins and you can see everything on coinmarketcap and in the top 1 - 10 are dominated by old coins. This means that the information provided by CoinMarketCap provides evidence that the old coin can still maintain its demand and volume. although new altcoins are currently gaining popularity.

That is very clear indeed, and what I see at the moment are all the new altcoins trying to make themselves more popular in the crypto space, on average they are always difficult to compete with the older altcoins.

It is better if you observe for yourself the development of coins in the market whether it is okay to invest or not to invest in old coins.
In my opinion, only ETH and BNB are worth investing in.
But, it's all up to you, I'm just giving advice.

Yeah why not. I believe old coins has now very much established compare to these new ones. However, in terms of usability and trends, these new ones have their advantage. Meanwhile, these new ones are nothing compare to what the achievements and developments that old coins have. They probably have the hype but without it, the foundation is weak and could easily ramp down. Old coins will continue to compete and probably new features will come out added by new partnerships.

Some old coin tech and support are not longer relevant in the Cryptocurrency market and the fact that lots of new project  have been coming up with very innovative ideas and product in Cryptocurrency.  This new development have relegated old coin and made them less competitive!  However,  some of the ideas that started old coin are still relevant today!
