Title: Elon Musk name once again used to fool people by hackers!
Post by: aysg76 on March 18, 2021, 07:11:13 AM
Musk has been in limelight from past year from gaining huge wealth and becoming richest person on the planet with net worth of $200 billion surpassing Jeff Bezos. This happened due to instant rise in Tesla share prices and Elon became socially active on crypto related tweets promoting Dogecoin to insane pumps and adding Bitcoin in his bio.But on the other hand he is associated with some scams also not done by him but by hackers in his name like vanity address scam I mentioned here  Vanity address scam (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5321633.msg56489241#msg56489241) to the latest ones.

New scam which has been done in his name is A Germany man lost Bitcoins worth 4 crores by depositing them on fake deposit address mentioned on Musk twiiter which was done by hacker.

https://i.ibb.co/zn765FM/Screenshot-20210318-122630-01.jpg (https://ibb.co/RvBjSNF)

The man deposited on fake address to double his Bitcoins in 30 minutes time frame without even realising that it is clear scam. Why would Musk announce such a giveaway? People just got eroded away with the greed and ends up loosing all their money. We need to first recheck everything before doing such stupid acts and act wisely.

What is a crore, this was a scam a few months back when all the twitter accounts were hacked and it has nothing to do with Musk even though his social media account was used to carry out the scam. Twitter should take the responsibility because their security was not up to the point and they failed big time.

Why would anyone think that you are able to double the amount of money by sending your money, how dumb you need to be to fall for these scams and if he invested in bitcoin he should be aware that the transactions are not reversible and even if your best buddy ask you to send the coins you will not do that let alone a stranger in social media even if he is a billionaire .

I hope this doesn't sound mean but if a guy actually deposits money to some address he sees on Twitter, then he deserves to lose that money. The only person I'd send money to if asked is my family and even then I'd check with them first that they really asked me for it:)

Elon is not my favorite guy but surely you can't blame him for this scam?

This seems to be the TX behind the case:
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/22eb0c127cf24a932d2713e8bd766e418355ad1f07ee2642a16e07bd91e01f93

The 10 BTCs (better expressed in BTCs than in Crores (https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Crore)) that the person gave to the scammers. happened on the 21/02/2021, so the news has taken some time to spread.

In fact, the recipient BTC address, 1CGLAmPruZxpPzjJj8ACEEWdVoh2Y5dSuq, is listed on the BitcoinAbuse database (https://www.bitcoinabuse.com/reports/1CGLAmPruZxpPzjJj8ACEEWdVoh2Y5dSuq) as been tied to another concurrent fake giveaway site. The scammer likely used a similar method with a couple of sites in order to keep it running as long as possible.

Edit: the image on this article depicts better how the scam took place: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56402378
(notice the fake twitter account answering on Musk's twitter thread, redirecting people to one of his scam sites).

Since I can see that people are not understanding the case properly, here's the image:

Elon Musk is not a scammer. Twitter is his personal space and he can write anything on this twitter profile / bio. He never wrote in this profile to buy bitcoin and dogecoin. If people start buying dogecoin after seeing his tweets, then its people mistake who do not think before investing and blindly invest in a shit coin like dogecoin.

It is unlikely that Elon is involved in some fraudulent scheme. It's completely different.

But that doesn't mean that he can just post scam which he didn't do, this was an attack I can't remember when but a lot of big names in Twitter were hacked and they all promoted some kind of doubling scheme which many thought were true because the accounts were a verified users and they have a lot of followers so they assume that it is true, this story is an old tale about making sure that you don't take anything a celebrity or an influencer blindly.

It is very sad to read each time that another has fallen victim to another internet fraud. But come to think of it, why do people keep falling for schemes like this? There is really no easy way to make money and people around us should be made to understand.

This is a classic scam, we can't blame Elon Musk here or his popularity in crypto. Unfortunately the person who lost money has no idea bout crypto scams, it's easy to detect it is a scam with the "double your money" scheme. His greediness made him lost bitcoin, hopefully it's not that much though.

It's not that Elon Musk is a scammer, criminals are using his name and take advantage because he is such a big influential specially now that this company has invested billions into bitcoin. The thing is that people, most of the time are greedy and thinks that this billionaire are just giving up free money.

As the saying goes, "if its too good to be true, probably is". If everyone will just use their common sense, no one will fall for this kind of scheme.

Well! Elon is not a scammer here! So update the thread tilte to clear any confusion. These are hackers who are making use of Elon's status in the crypto market. Since he has become a great support in bitcoin for the global audience, hackers are using the same in their favor.

I don't see this issue to resolve anytime soon, especially with the psuedo anonymity bitcoin provides by default. Hackers will find their way into scamming greedy people!

I am not trying to defame the image of Elon Musk and has no such intentions but what I actually was trying to say that one more scam has been initiated in the name of Musk which obviously was not done by Tesla CEO Elon Musk but his name was used to fool the people in such scams by hackers. He is famous and some pseudonym groups are using his Indentity to steal from people. That was my main explanation nothing else.So I am going to update the title to clear any further confusions.

Are still some people who are falling with that kind of scams?
It's already 2020, those scams in Twitter are already aged if you are already in Twitter before especially on cryptocurrency part.

But we can't blame newbies for falling to it, they are extremely vulnerable to these kinds of scams.

Especially when a person is lacking with finances and is financially illiterate, unfortunately things like this can easily blind some people with a chance of an easy way out of poverty.

In this case though? I don't have a single idea. My guess is just that this dude probably received a huge inheritance hence the immense carelessness.

These scam giveaways usually target less informed/educated people involved some way in crypto, since it should look like an obvious scam attempt no matter how you look at it.

The real question these people should ask themselves before participating in such giveaways is: why would people in that position need you to make a deposit to send you more?, and these social platforms lack of proper security is not helping these scams either, and sometimes even the official account of known people gets compromised and used for such activities, like what happened to Twitter 1-1.5 year/s ago which led to many scam giveaway tweets being sent in mass by verified accounts.

i personally knew people who had invested in doublers, i couldn't even advise them to avoid it because they are pretty much excited when hearing about a new site and they spread it quickly as well before it shutdown and i mean they wanted to be the first to deposit. despite me teaching them to go here in bitcointalk to learn what people are saying, it's me that is seen as outsider of their own bitcoin community.

how odd could it be that you deposit and you hope a 100% return. even if it's the real Elon musk will promise that i wouldn't send a satoshi.

If a man is gullible enough to send some money on the way of ANYONE, even if that is Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or Jesus himself, in exchange for double their deposit, then they deserve to lose their money. Not that I'm saying that what happened is okay but sometimes people need to exercise caution in doing such things and not get controlled by greed. This isn't the first time the name of a famous person is used in such a scheme, and will probably not be the last.

yes you are right about that, even scammer scams with methods like those described by the OP have been very often done. If someone can still get trapped and send money to a scammer with this type of fraud they deserve it, because they are too greedy to get quick profits regardless of the risks that will occur and without doing analysis even though the ones who will do the givewaway are even famous people.
Somehow there are still people who can get caught in an ancient trap like this.

Yes true, I heard about this funny joke that Elon Musk offers free Bitcoins !! Unfortunately, some people do not use their minds, why would Elon Musk distribute Bitcoin for free ?? !! Even if he was the richest man in the world but he definitely will not throw bitcoin in the way !!! This is nonsense and people should be more careful about this type of fraud.
These scammers are good at using the names of famous people to inflict victims. They have done so many times using the name of Satoshi before and have defrauded a lot of people.

I read the article in BBC and immediately recalled Einstein's words about stupidity:

Two Things Are Infinite: the Universe and Human Stupidity

I don't know how people having $500k+ in assets fall for this sh**t. How they even made that money if they are so stupid and naïve that they will get x10 from the air?!

It is really unbelievable to see that still many people fall for these very obvious tricks. Really, how could you expect Elon Musk to offer you doubling the crypto you have if you send the amount to him? It is really strange.  ;D  And I'm afraid it doesn't look like there will be no people left believing this kind of things.

Well, once greedy people will always be greed.
Scammers are always looking to find ways to fool people --I don't know that is innocent or just a naive one. They don't think that why Elon Musk doing this if this he really is. Doubling money is always an effective way of fooling people and every time there are victims, they will perhaps laugh and says, an idiot will always be a loser. However, this had a double victim, Elon Musk and the poor mindset of people that fall into the trap.

A huge user base as we say which is the perfect recipe for hackers to make out money that big with just simply publishing out some too good to be true offers
then viola, those greedy bastards would really easily fallen off into the trap until they do realize when its  already too late.

I was not surprised to knowing that the name Elon Musk was used by scammers to attract the attention of his victims, and it has proven to be
effective fraud in the crypto world by using the names of popular people to commit fraud. Lots of victims are attracted by being promised that
by making a deposit their money will be doubled, even though this method is not new. It has often been used by scammers, but there are always
new victims. Knowing this fact, I am actually quite concerned, because there are still many people who believe in fraudulent methods like this.
We should indeed have to be more vigilant with all the offers that come to us, let alone the promise of getting money the easy way.

The bolded one is really attractive and that is obviously a scam trick that many had become a victim. This person really wanted easy money. I don't know if he does the research first or he just jumps on it without a single knowledge about what he is doing. And he can't blame Elon Musk for this but just himself. It is really hurt and disappointed but to consider this as a lesson to learn. Scammers could easly trick people who have a greedy soul and hungry for money.

It may be that they have used the name Elon Musk but such scams are nothing new, often such offers come in the mail, many offers come in spam emails that will be offering to 2x or 3x return within 5/10 minutes if you deposit. It's true that greedy people are falling into this trap. But rather than greedy people, newcomers are more likely to fall into these traps. Newcomers don't have a good idea about Bitcoin so they think this may be the main purpose of Bitcoin to doubling their money. Maybe we can't prevent these But to protect the newcomers from Ponzi/doubling offer/scam project/fake pump signal, we can create public awareness, warn the people around us about these things.

I hope someday we will be able to decrease the rate of these bad events to a very low level.

we need more education and more frequent warnings so that beginners can find out about the dangers that lurk them. These scams cater to the populace that does not fact check and does not read between the lines. That's why it works. People may argue about how stupid it is and how it's not going to fool the average person but you have to realize that the people getting scammed by these people, for the lack of a better term, are dumbasses. Don't mean to put insult to injury but that's just how I see it, this is just like the Nigerian Prince email scam if you'd think, yet as we all know people are still getting scammed by it.

They are using it a hundred times because they know that Elon Musk is also a good and effective tool to lure people.

Elon Musk is a useful famous personality that they commonly use because of how he engaged with cryptocurrency investment and controlling the market just like what he did in Dogecoin.

Newbie investors are easily fooled when they see a popular or successful personality to promote a certain coin or to do wrong things in the market thinking that they will also become rich by that. Which really makes me sad as there are still scammers who are taking advantage of innocent/beginner investors.

Imagine someone promising to double your Bitcoins in 30 minutes isn't this enough indicator to alert you it is an obvious scam? The max supply of bitcoin is fixed how on earth will such a person be able to manufacture ×2 of your bitcoin within a timeframe of 30 minutes? I hope a lot of people learn through this thread.

I still don't get it, how come people fall for this kind of scams? Don't they read the news or do any diggings before sending their money? We know how Elon Musk can influence a lot of people by simply making a tweet, that is how the richest person in the world can do, he can manipulate the market by mentioning bitcoin or any altcoin just like what happened when he put on his bio the hashtag bitcoin and recently when he also mentions about the dogecoin. So because of that a lot of scammers and hackers got interested on him in a way that they have created a fake account to gain money to a lot of people and those unfortunate people could be a victim for those scam using the profile of Elon Musk. So always make sure that you are sure before putting some money.

Hope this one will serve as a lesson for everyone, Elon and other popular business tycon names will never do such act of giving out doubling money. If they wanted to give out money, they will give it out without compromised.

I agree, being as stupid as to think that a famous person like Elon who doesn't even know you personally is going to give you a lot of money when you send him the required money then they probably deserve the scam. The reason that people fall for this in my opinion is that a lot of people do not exercise their critical thinking and common sense which should be cultivated during the formative years of childhood and it should be completely operational by the age of reason but given that there are still people that fall for this is evident that there isn't a lot of people that has the necessary critical thinking skills and common sense.

There is nothing weird here. Elon is famous and scammers use his name to fool people. Fraudsters looking for every chance to fool others. Everyone should think twice before sending their coins to other accounts.

Ever since Elon Musk got involved in crypto, loads of events have unfolded, scammers have decided to deploy their skills in graphic designs to modify most of Musk's comments and also deployed formts that are claimed to have come from Musk towards doubling on their investments. All should be careful of these scammers as they are out to make more off those who are genuinely making money but ignorant of their devices.

This whole story seems fishy. Anyone with 10 btc right now is aware of various scams and hacked or fake accounts and is not sending that much to obvious scams. I smell tax evasion or some sort of money laundering happening in here.

Two things.
1. Why would a celebrity do such giveaway like this? And if it is a giveaway, why need to send or even deposit BTC? That single word of sending something is surely a scam. That's why I don't trust these giveaways of any forms anyway.
2. Elon Musk, really? This is why I don't let myself being celebrity driven hodler. No matter what celebrities claims at to crypto news, I don't usually take their word in its face value.

This happened, almost like a blatant robbery.  it lost the pride and reputation of the people involved, even using bitcoin as a tool.  A century hoax.  Elon Musk's appeal this year is still rising and the heat is huge.  Whenever, limit trust and use reason to test and shape any situation.  Double the number of bitcoins?  greed has come out of generosity that obscures reason.

don’t see any reason Elon Musk should be drag into this; the scam has taken place for a while now sometimes In February or so and they have taken action against the scammer. But I still blame the victim for his ignorance because Elon musk has a verified Twitter account and an unverified Twitter account in his name should contact you, one should know it potential scam about to happen. I am sure Elon Musk is not even aware of this whole scam issue.

I expect this scenario will come and finally, scammers did the best shot and succeed in his 1 million dollar trick.

I'm just Kinda disappointed how this person could give easily his trust to a person who knows online. I'm not sure if he is aware of this scam trick, in fact, this thing is very known to everyone.

I understand that because the scammer uses the name Elon Musk for their benefits but I don't wonder also how he never do any actions to validate if that person is real Elon or not. Anyway, that ignorance will always bring us no good.

Actually the account used by the scammer was also a verified one:
Quote
In some cases, like the one that tricked Sebastian, the criminals use stolen accounts of prominent people to ensure they have the blue 'verified' tick to make the account seem more trustworthy.
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-56402378

It means verified logo from Twitter means nothing. Twitter verifies too many people and these people just sell their accounts to scammers, so they can pretend to be famous personalities like Elon Musk, giving more credibility to the scam attempt. To say the truth I wasn't aware about that tectic until I read these news above and understood what was behind the verified logo account used by the scammer.

No, it will be used again and again, infinity and beyond ;D
even google adsense on youtube can promote a scam like this nowadays.

In the first place, I thought this kind of scam is not working anymore. but I was wrong.
it still works, but why that those who own that big amount of BTC can be scammed in this cheap way.

domain provider should limit some of the domain name usages. it should be double-checked first before it's online.
in this case, can I sue the domain name provider?

Elon Musk is not a scammer. Twitter is his personal space and he can write anything on this twitter profile / bio. He never wrote in this profile to buy bitcoin and dogecoin. If people start buying dogecoin after seeing his tweets, then its people mistake who do not think before investing and blindly invest in a shit coin like dogecoin.
Its not him actually, during that time big names and verified twitter accounts on twitter got hacked including him. So probably a hacker took advantage of twitter influencers account and made a lot of money out of their tweets. Unfortunately still there are a lot of innocent people fall to hackers prey, people really need to educate themselves.

It is funny how people still fall for obvious dubious schemes. I do not blame the hackers for using Elon Musk's profile as the bait since they are also looking for means to scam more people and people will only go for what seems trustworthy. They only use Elon Musk's popularity as an opportunity to prey on unsuspecting victims. I blame the man who was driven by his greed to get his doubled in a few hours. No legitimate sites or person would ever promise you that.
Well, it is good he has learnt his lessons howbeit the hard way. It is only necessary we become conscious of this so as not to fall victim. It is important that we learn from the mistakes of others so we don't make them ourselves

Its true that Elon's name is really powerful when it comes to the world of Financial Technologies but we need to stop being gullible with the fact that we need to know that there is no "FREE" money. I can't even believe someone would deposit such a huge amount of cryptocurrencies just like that.
Who would give double the amount of cryptocurrencies in just 30 minutes for doing nothing? Isn't it an obvious scam.
He could have simply tested it by a depositing a small amount first but even that wasn't necessary for such obvious scams.
To be honest, he didn't deserve to hold those coins or may be the news is just fake.

The case of a scammer who uses the name of a famous person to give an asset multiplication giveaway is not the first time. scammer traps like this often occur and are carried out on Twitter, medium articles or on a live stream. I don't know how many times a fake giveaway like this can trap someone and why do some still believe it without doing research first.
elons musk or other famous personalities would not giveaway this way, although famous people should still be on their guard.

Who is responsible for such giveaway scams? We are the one who is responsible for these kinds of scams because of our greedy behavior. If you take a deep look at the scam accusation board then you will discover many giveaway scams. So these methods become very old. But it's quite surprising that people still want to double their money within minutes, unfortunately. I have seen many posts on Twitter about double money, but I never click there. This means we have to use our common sense to save our money. No one could save us if we do not help ourselves.

Got to think about it. How does someone being able to think that it is possible to double your Bitcoin within just a short span of time like 30 mins as mentioned by the OP? It is clearly impossible at the first thought. Also how does a very busy man like Elon Musk will be catering such a give away by the same time? Clearly it is on the part of the victim that have the faulty for believing into such scheme being played by those scammers for they have used that weakness of him to get along making him their target. Scam are always those that are far beyond possible to be attainable to be easily recognized. If you are into investment or trading and someone offers you to double your money it just a span of short time, then that is you must consider it as a scam for it is impossible and do not get easily fooled by someone mentioning other famous personalities. Always do verify the info.

We need to be aware and stop being greedy.

Like I'm always saying in the past, "Those ignorant ones will be the one who will fall into this kind of trap" and well, it always work as they are always successful in scamming people in this way.

Musk and Bitcoin itself are innocent into this one as they are just being used to scam those ignorant and newbie ones. Even though we are giving advices to them, there are just people who are greedy and want a quick earn money that is why they most of the time ended up getting scammed. I've seen this tactics in Youtube many times already and I've seen also some famous vloggers here in our country that have been hacked and used their channel to scam more people. One used Ethereum and one used VeChain.

Double in 30 mins? That alone is a red flag for me and others should be aware on this too.

Greed is basic human character and we can't really blame anyone for that. In today's world, everything revolves around money. So for each and every individual, the ultimate target is to get more and more wealth in the form of money or other assets. I have seen many of these "give away" scams. I can't really blame the victims. Because even for me (I have 7 years of experience in cryptocurrency sector), it took some time to realize that the campaign was a scam. They look so genuine and only very careful examination can spot the difference.

For a second I thought Elon was involved in a scam from the way the OP's titled post read. Elon is an influential man, and in financial matters he tops as the richest man on the globe. It's little wonder why people would claim to be him. It's no fault of his that some stupid and greedy folks decide to fall for petty scams branding Elon Musk as the advertiser of certain freebies. They should have taken a minute to ask themselves why would a wealthy dude like Elon ask anyone to send him Bitcoin or any other crypto before he gives them the  purported freebies. But no, they wouldn't because their brain cells aren't properly developed to reason a simple matter. Anyone who falls for such scams such tag himself an idiot. Simple!

I mean if you want to speculate what the man is doing then feel free to speculate. But please do mention that it is only a speculation and not use words to show that Elon is guilty of scamming people. That is already accusing someone of wrongdoing and that is slanderous.

Since he is one of the big names in the industry of crypto, that was expected that those filthy hackers will use his identity as a promoter of the scam investment method. People should be aware of this and even the name like Bill gates or the other celebrities right there are prone to this kind of move where their names are being used to promote such scams. People nowadays should be vigilant when they see some offers like this because there is no way that those big-time guys will give you an offer such as the OP posted.

That what they are saying here is also their own opinion, yet to be illegal as there is no evidence pointing someone did the scam. This issue doesn't have an end until such a time that the REAL Elon Musk will make a favor and denied, say something, and protect himself of not committing such a scam.
I understand that some people will directly accuse Elon as the scammer use his name. Will never know as well if that really the Elon Musk we know online or someone else.

Just like you said, it much better to have strong evidence otherwise, the case dismissed.

people who have been hit by the hype forget to check whether it's really elon or not. Greed does make people forget what they are getting into, they can't tell the difference between real and fake.
People who have fallen into the trap of fake elons or scammers are people who generally don't understand how to distinguish a scammer or not and they are mostly newbies who are just getting into trying their luck at crypto.

If you don't notice the difference in the username, then in all probability you will fall victim to this scam. All that said, there is no point in blaming the victims. The hacker who promised on behalf of celebrities that he would double the amount of Bitcoins transferred by their followers on the social network, if the funds in question come to their account as soon as possible, has collected about 117,000 dollars. The hacker also returned all bitcoins he had stolen.

The amount is not so great, but still shows that there are many people who have more hope for such things than common sense and the realization that these are scams.

Sometimes when I open Twitter there will be many users who use the name elon musk in promoting fake links, so I always be careful and double-check what I have read so as not to be fooled by these scammers. Currently on social media, especially Twitter is a place to carry out these fraudulent acts, so be careful.

That is really a sad scene when your opening you Social Media account but there is a thing that we should all keep in mind. It is the fact that Elon Musk would not promote any website with using a different account. He will always use his main account which is great because Elon is a very vocal man and he would say what is on his mind regarding different topics and that is why we should just wait for Elon Musk on his account when he talks about Cryptocurrencies that could benefit us. Twitter does not have the time to do a lot of fact-checking because of the million of users doing so many fake accounts and talks about many of fake events happening and that is why its our responsibility to follow what is on our mind.

You seem to be confusing the case depicted in this thread, with the twitter account hack back in July 2020. The latter did involve around 117K$ worth of bitcoin (see https://www.tampabay.com/news/crime/2021/03/16/tampa-twitter-hacker-agrees-to-three-years-in-prison-in-plea-deal/), but the topic in the OP verses on an account made to look like Musk’s account, but not actually taking over his account, although posting his scam link within one of Musk’s twitter threads (see image here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5324691.msg56593064#msg56593064).

Being the case depicted in the OP less sophisticated, it actually came off with a larger loot (just over 12 BTC in received TXs on the used btc address), mainly by a stroke of good fortune with one person transferring 10 BTC in one go.

we find it a ridiculous and funny thing that someone had fallen into a very obvious scam. Yes, we laugh at it because we know how a scam works but to innocent people, that simply think of money and double it for just a few minutes, they can be instantly rich. This what we mostly end when we are not asking other's opinions or even listening to others who have knowledge about crypto.

I don't blame Elon Musk for this and probably he never scams a person and a reason that could ruin his reputation. He actually supports Bitcoin and that it gives the advantage for the scammers to use his name in order to trick innocent people and caught in their trap.

After all, maybe they are not yet aware of the things like this in the community so they will easily believe those profiles without even checking them.

@aysg76, this issue has nothing to do with the hacker but phishing site scammers who proposed fake giveaway and I think the topic of this thread should be "Elon Musk name once again used to fool people by imposter"

Are still some people who are falling with that kind of scams?
It's already 2020, those scams in Twitter are already aged if you are already in Twitter before especially on cryptocurrency part.

But we can't blame newbies for falling to it, they are extremely vulnerable to these kinds of scams.
Yes, people still fall for the fake Elon Musk Twitter account giveaway scam and the victim of the scam are mainly aged people who invested their pension fund in cryptocurrency with the hope of secure their future financially. This is the reason why FCA ban crypto trading/investment by retailer investors.

Elon Musk's name is widely used when it comes to scams in the cryptocurrency community, with that amount of money I mean you should be ultra-careful before investing that money.

I mean when it comes to social media where scams are pretty much everywhere you should just triple-check everything checks the project, website, and everything, and even verifies it to others.

I think a lot of celebrities' account was also hacked in the past just and use in scams, a lot of people fall into this kind of scams which is actually believable because of the blue checkmark of twitter indicating that it is a legitimate account.

I wonder why people still far for this Elon Musk give-away this and that on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram or what ever media they use. Well, its not a mystery that people come into cryptos on a daily and people live as well but come on, this scheme has already been done one too many times and it feels really sad that people still fall for it out of greed.
If people can actually stop being greedy and hungry for easy money in give aways, it would go a long way in putting this scam scheme in check. I know trying to be first always seems to present a chance but, you always have to ask yourself, what you stand to lose and if its worth it should the whole thing become a scam. Be a little bit curious, thats all you need.

The important thing about this news is to know that no matter how easy it was for these people to "fall" into fraud, one must always be alert, trust and believe that this happens to others is the cause of fraud that is only waiting for carelessness. The dissemination of this type of news sometimes helps a lot to spread the prevention so as not to fall into such classic scams.

People will always try to join these type of free give-aways for the hope that they will get something out of it. You can't blame them as they are desperate to get a hold of money. However, with such carelessness, instead of getting something, they will be screwed by these scammers. People should orient themselves with this type of scam. Nothing good will come out of it.

Its really possible that the people who got scammed are people who has been taught badly on how Cryptocurrency works and in some way they thought that its a good idea to send their money first into an address in which was fakely connected to a famous person. They also have forgotten the fact that Elon would not use other people promoting what he wants because he is personally a vocal person and having a CEO promote something that he wants is one of the best way to improve or gain customers/popularity/attention.

Many of these scams can be traced back to 2019 or 2020, when Elon Musk didn't had any association with cryptocurrency sector. In most of the instances, the scammers just used another blue tick Twitter account, after modifying the profile name and profile picture to make it look like the account of Musk. But in one instance, they managed to hack Elon's Twitter account and posted a phishing link using that. New users are the prime target. Most of them are unaware of the scams and Ponzis that exist in this sector and can be easily manipulated.

Are these scams still happening?
I am quite surprised that it is after all the trouble that happened back in Twitter wherein many celebrities were hacked through a social engineering made done by a young person.
Long time ago, there was someone trying to make me login my Bitcoin wallet back then claiming that there will be giveaway also.
It might not be celebrity, but be wary that not just celebrity but your own "trusted" platform could deceive you sometimes.

It's their problem to control their greed if they keep on falling onto these scams. That's the target of these scammers and hackers, they're into the newbies and as well as those greedy people.
But as long as the newbies are very resourceful and they are researching first before falling into it, they will earn it and avoid it because they've been vigilant.

I think it is a combination of factors, on the one hand there are people who are not exactly intelligent, let's put it that way, and on the other hand there is the real Elon Musk who trolls and creates confusion especially when he is talking shit about Dogecoin.
He should stop trolling because then people, when they get news that Elon Musk does a certain thing run to do the same. And that is really stupid.

I agree. There is no pointing fingers at Elon - he doesn't even have the time to be scamming people like this, and to be blunt no need either.

While I can feel the pain of the guy who fell for this scam, unfortunately there's nothing that can be done anything about it. It is done, it was done when the transaction was completed. Let it be a hard lesson for many who read about this, and never send any crypto unless they are dead sure who they're sending it to.

For the crypto community that has been in the crypto world for a long time, it might seem ridiculous to see someone being tricked into being
promised double the Bitcoin they own. Because most of the crypto community who have been in the crypto world for a long time, are very often
aware of fraud incidents with this method, therefore it's easy to avoid it.

But newbies who are not experienced in the world of crypto will easily be attracted by an offer to double their Bitcoin. Moreover, scammers take
advantage of the big name Elon Musk, who is currently active in Twitter, doing promos for DOGE and BTC. Making newbies even more influenced,
and making it easier for scammers to deceive many people who don't have good experience and knowledge in the world of crypto.

Such scams will continue to repeat themselves, because scammers know that there will be new potential victims. Especially with the price of Bitcoin
also getting more expensive this year, many newbies want instant profit. Lessons for newbies who are new to the world of crypto, there is no instant
profit. So avoid offers that can double Bitcoin in a relatively short period of time.

This story is a typical one for crypto currency world. Lots of famous persons' accounts were used for making such schemes and fraud very trusting people. The key moment in stories of such kind - the greediness and haste in decisions. You may double your assets for example on the increasing price of token or coin and even in this case you may lose. So the golden rule - think twice before you act, be extremely attentive, check every information and every symbol in it.

That is one way of putting it, my take on this announcement is that Tesla is going or is planning to if not yet going to become an active participant in the bitcoin market which is a good thing because if they are going to do it then they will be able to move the markets and can counter the dumps of other whales if possible. I am glad that Tesla is making this move because this is an exemplary move for other car companies to follow suit which will help the bitcoin adoption get faster.

New scam which has been done in his name is A Germany man lost Bitcoins worth 4 crores by depositing them on fake deposit address mentioned on Musk twiiter which was done by hacker.

I’m really shocked when I see people still falling this same old tactics that are being used by scammers. Even if you are not aware of scammers using this a tactics like this, you should at least know because your common sense should tell you that a genuine giveaway wouldn’t ask you to deposit a certain amount to their wallet address before you’re given anything, not to talk of it being doubled.

Another reason why I am surprised is because this is a tactics that has already been blown after the Twitter hack by these hackers which they were using lots of celebrities to promote this same scheme. People really have to be careful and stop giving out free money to these scammers that are everywhere .

I don't really know why most people still caught on this kind of scheme just because a well-known individual such as Elon Musk posted on Twitter about giving away BTC and doubling their BTC in an instant. The strategy of these hackers level up and even made fake accounts of celebrities so that it would look real and convincing. One thing I could say is to doubt everything you see on the internet especially social media platforms and if its an instant money, it is definitely a scam so always remember that.

I do not understand why this happens. If this man in Germany lost his bitcoin by sending them to the fraudulent website where they mention Elon Musk as the owner. It means that this man is getting started in bitcoin because any bitcoiner knows that these websites are scams.
Elon Musk is not promoting these giveaways, anyone that offers you to double your bitcoin is a scam.
These events are often seen on Twitter where users thank Elon Musk for doubling his investment in these Giveaways. Every time I see them I report them on Twitter as scam.

In most cases, new investors are victim of these scams. New investors have less idea about Bitcoin and they fall into the trap of these scammers after greed. Before investing in any place, people should check and verify the reviews about that platform, they should not invest anywhere as extra profit comes in a short time. At present, the scammers are using the names of well-known investors to attract people. It is not possible to eradicate these fraudsters, so be aware of these fraudulent cycles and warn everyone.

When your brain is purely driven by greed, it becomes incapable of doing logical thinking. From what I have seen, a lot of cryptocurrency users are relatively careless while dealing with their coins. That is wrong and they need to treat cryptocurrency on par with fiat currency. If it was a fiat currency plan, where you need to spend $500,000 in cash to Elon Musk, will anyone be willing to make that transfer? The problem is that we treat fiat currency as money and are more relaxed when it comes to cryptocurrency.

Online hackers try to hack using different people's names. Before investing as an investor, you must verify that you are investing in the right place; It would not be right to blame anyone else for this. I think investors should learn from the incident.

Read the OP and the replies once. No one is actually blaming Elon Musk. He has done a lot of great things to cryptocurrency, and I have a lot of respect for him. That said, a lot of people are concerned that the scammers are using his name to cheat people, for more than two years now. Inexperienced users continue to lose their hard earned money to these scams. There is hardly anything Musk could do to prevent all this. We need to make the new users aware of these traps.

Commonly I saw this kind of scams on youtube live I think they made action immediately because I've never seen some of those when I'm trying to browse on their platform. Scams happen all the time and they won't stop. A successful scam stems from 2 factors: the fraudster and the scammer. If the victim is wise enough, he will not be deceived. So raising your vigilance is a way to protect your wallet.
The name Elon Musk appears everywhere and on the Telegram groups appear regularly with thousands of fake accounts. If someone is fooled by fake news, regrettably, they are too naive.

Well that is really expected if you are one big industrial tycoon and celebrity. People will simply continue using their names to fool many. I would say that in order for you to go and learn what these celebs are really trying to say, you need to be sure that you only stay on their own social media accounts or their legit websites if they do not have social media of their own. It is hard to track down and arrest these fraudsters but at least you do your part to stay out of their way.

These sort of things happen when logical thinking gets dominated by greed. It is really simple. If Elon Musk want to donate Bitcoin to someone, then why should he ask the recipients to first send coins to his wallet? I read the story in BBC about an European loser spending his entire BTC stash worth half a million USD to the scammers. When you are dealing with such huge amounts of money, don't you think that you need to verify the details first?
