It depends on your current hashing speed.  I am using Deepbit because they solve blocks at an amazing rate, so I get paid much faster.  It all depends on your preference.

Let's make it clear: bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme. Mining can be profitable, depending on the bitcoin price, but will not make you millionaire any time soon, and is only an aspect of bitcoin.

Maybe you should get a part-time job to pay it off, instead of stealing the money from your parents.

Stealing imply something illegal.

His parents are allowing him to use his computers and they pay the bills for that. So how the hell is this STEAL? go troll elsewhere  ::)

"Downloading and playing games" and leaving your computer on isn't the same thing as intentionally running your electric bill even higher, in order to mine bitcoins, which in the end are worth less than the electricity used to mine them.  Have a little respect for your parents, they gave up a lot to raise children, don't need to steal from them.

And vindication means he was right.

Nonsense

Their parents are allowing him to use the computers AND put no restrictions on HOW to use it. So, as long as he use it in a legal way, he can do what he want with it.

It is not stealing if he tells his parents exactly what he is doing "I am going to run my computer and video card all the time so I can make a few Bitcoins to play with.  It is going to noticeably increase your electricity bill.  Is that OK with you?"  If they say yes, and they might because it is somewhat educational and does keep him from playing those stupid games all the time, then the problem is solved.

If my daughter asked me to do this the first thing I would ask her is "Exactly how much is it going to raise my electricity bill?"  And then I would tell her if she could figure it out correctly then I would let her.

So blabla, can you calculate exactly how much this is going to raise your parents electricity bill?

May I ask what this "other stuff" is that you got 0.5 BTC from?  I've been mining at snail's pace and and up to only .25 BTC.  Hopefully, by next week, I'll be able to actually buy some coins.  Meanwhile, how did you get so many BTC so fast?

Just because I let my kid have a computer to play games doesn't mean he can run it at 100% 24/7 and make my electricity bill raise so he can make some money off something else.  If he asked, sure I'd probably let him and see how much it raises the bill and go from there, but to do it without saying anything is a douche thing to do.

Besides, your only criteria for whether or not it's right is whether or not someone told you specifically not to do it?  You must have had an interesting childhood.

If they let you use the computer AND put no restriction about HOW to use it, you can use it as you wish, pretty simple.

It's not like a computer is on 24/24 and no one notice that anyway

Well it depend on the numbers of molecules and atoms of the computer, how they are disposed and the temperature, add to that the quantic effects and some other things, maybe if we become gods we can exactly compute how much energy do a computer use.

So if your parents didn't specifically tell you not to leave the faucet running, jack up the water bill, run a pipe to the neighbors, sell it at a loss and pocket the profits, then its okay to do?  That sure is some logic you got there.   ::)

Gabi - this is very funny if you are being sarcastic, very very sad if you really believe this.

My parents taught me morals and ethics so I knew what to not do, and don't need to be told what not to do by authority figures, but to each his own I guess  :)

No, No!  I meant to honestly appreciate you for the fact you have made over 1000 posts in a second language.  Very impressive.  I could never do that - mainly because I don't even have a second language.  You do just fine - in fact great!
