Gambling is becoming a popular thing in my locality almost everyone gamble and even colleagues gamble and engage in gambling related discussions at work,  so gambling is legal and very popular so there is no Shame in using part of a salary to gamble with that is why I am asking the question of what the right percentage from my salary that I should use to gamble?

If you want to go the appropriate way, 1% of your salary is okay, but that should be if your salary is enough. Some people may not have money to spare on gambling. If you earn enough, use 1% of your weekly income to gamble.

I use 2 to 5% of my weekly income to gamble and it is good for me. It does not feel like I lose anything and sometimes I win.

It would be great to use funds you can afford to lose and not regret a lot or fall prey of addiction if you lose,so if you can afford to lose like 5% of your salary then most likely that is the max amount you should gamble from your salary and only do this if you want to really play gambling yourself and not because other people are doing it or in your locality is in the mood.I personally use like 5-10% of my net salary every month which is 150 EUR to 300 EUR depending which amount I feel like spending playing gambling,where I live this may be a high amount as I don't live in Germany which this is normal so it all depends on how much money you can afford to lose without regretting it,that is the right amount.

No more than 5% because the other 95% of your salary should be used for your needs, don't get carried away because in the circle you gamble a lot and then you spend it all, it will cause problems in your finances.

There is no right percentage in my opinion, it all depends on how much you earn and how much you can afford to channel into gambling. We all earn different amounts and we all have different problems and responsibilities so all these affects the percentage a person can put into gambling. Even if i tell you how many percentage i put into gambling it will be of no use to you because you will have to analyze and properly evaluate your earnings and liabilities.

Regardless of how much you earn my advice for you is to put only a maximum of 5% into gambling depending on your earnings, if you don’t earn much you shouldn’t use more than 5% but if you earn much you should use like about 2%-2.5% to gamble.

Dont use specific percentage of your salary, why?
First, if your salary is not that big then the amount you will be able to spend on gambling is also too low.
Lets say your monthly income is $300-$500 a month and you set 1%-5%, it will be only $3-$5 to gamble.
Unless you can enjoy gambling with such a low amount, forget my opinion.
Second, if your salary is so huge per month then if you use a specific percentage, you will spend big amount as well.

I usually do around 1% up to 5% of my salary for bets, like right now I have a similar situation since at work we do bets on online gambling websites on NBA games, since its Finals we do a lot of bets online and the discussions are usually about it, I mean we are all NBA fans and its surely fun to do gambling bets on something that you really like it add a thrill on it as well as make you great feeling if you win the bet to mention the potential winning, I mean with a 10$ or 20$ bet you could easily earn 100$ on some easy bets on that, I mean it's a low-risk high reward in my opinion even though it was kinda difficult to do the bets.

5% I think is still manageable in my opinion as long as you know what you are doing you could easily recover from a 5% loss even though you lose that bet, your next salary could easily recover that so I don't see any problem with that as long as your gonna gamble responsibly and moderately.

But for a start, you might not even need to spend up to that 1% of your monthly salary; you can just spend it inside your pocket, which you carry about on a daily basis, on some gambling and see how it goes without too much expectation from it. 

I think, that first of all, nobody should tell you how you should spend your salary. If you want, you can spend all of it in one single bet. Of course if you dont regret consequences later. Secondly, you should not stick to «I can spend only X percent of my salary on gambling». Spend whenever you can afford. If I were you, I would subtract all necessary monthly expenses from salary to find that one amount you can spend on fun, whether it be cinemas, gambling, outdoor activities, theatre and etc. And gamble based on that.

You should know that by yourself because you know the cost of living wherever you are right now and how much expenses do you usually pay with your salary.

We're from different places and that's why my suggestion might not fit to you but if it's just about giving a percentage then a solid 5% is already enough if you're the casual type of gambler.

The only advice I’ll give you is that you shouldn’t try to change anything isn’t the future, there are times when you’ll start experiencing wins or losses and that thought of increasing your bankroll so that you can win more will kick in. If you’re able to keep a healthy gambling lifestyle you’d be fine.

Probably just $5 if you are not open to spending more. It should just depend on how little you want to lose. When you budget some cash only for your gambling each month, it always looks like you expect to lose that amount anyway so you might as well make sure it's as little as possible.

But having a huge paycheck may also make you allocate a larger amount. I hope OP will consult his wife in case there are other plans he doesn't know yet but the wife. I can't really accertain this as you haven't told us exactly what you do and how much your salary is...  :P But lemme assume it's the regular 9-5 job and that could be around $1500? Gambling with just 2% of that is enough for a month.

I don’t see anything bad in gambling, but the addicted gamblers are the ones who are making people think gambling is a bad activity. If you are using part of your salary to gamble, then it’s fine, but you don’t expect me to tell you the percentage that you will be using to gamble, that’s left for you to decide. But you should gamble with just a small amount, the amount that won’t have any effect on you even if you lose it. Since you know the amount you are collecting as a salary, you know the bills you are going to pay, and you know the amount that is supposed to go into your savings account. Then you will know the percentage that is supposed to go into gambling.

Use as much as you want as long as it feels comfortable and doesn't put you in debt or any life hazards. I personally use a very small part of my income, usually less than 1%, but here we again come to a difference between me and you. I don't know how much you earn and what are your expenses. Someone who earns $5k a month may seem rich, but not if he has a loan to pay, 3 kids and a wife at home and so on. How can we tell him what % of his salary he spend, when we dont know how much he earns and how much he must spend monthly to get to "nett" or "free" money he has. In my opinion, 10% is a reasonable limit for us to use for gambling, the important thing is that it is not more than 50% of our incomed so we can still control our money, however gambling is a game for fun, we should not spend too much money gambling with the risks of losing high, don't ever think that your salary can double if you use it all, always think about the risk we will faced, the most important thing is that we can controls our thought and control our finances when gambling.

I think OP is just trying to figure out what is the best number there is especially if other gamblers are already doing it. I do. 5 percent of my monthly salary goes to gambling and I don't mind if that will lose. I mean, I am ready if the money will go south while I am playing but if I do win like x10 of that amount then I will probably cash it out.
I want to stick with that plan and then leave the 5 percent again so that I can keep on playing.

I don't think you should be gambling because gambling has become a new niche for people to make money and just because it's popular doesn't mean is something you will want to try. The question I want to ask you is this, do you know how to gamble and what type do you do? Is it casino or sport betting? I will presume is sport betting since you said locality but there is more to sport betting though, you can't just venture into sporty betting if you don't follow the leagues.

As for the amount, always gamble with what you know you can afford to lose, if you can afford to lose your salary then you are more than welcome and if it's some fraction you can let's go, it's fine but know that as you are thinking of making back the money, you are likely to lose that same money either you are good in predictions or bad because you can't be right all the time.

If we just look on this case from mathematics point of view. Lets suppose OP earns $1000 per month. So he should spend only $10 per month (or per session, per day, we dont know it). Yes I agree with your assumption about how much to bet on gambling, as you said if the person has an income of $1000 per month then the best money is to bet $10 of the salary on gambling but try to use the amount within a month before you get a salary again, or that means $10 for one month, because if $10 is only for one session then I think in the end it is clear that in a month they will definitely gamble more than once which means they have to spend more than $10, so the point is to set the amount for gambling expenses within a month before you get a salary again next month.

I think you get my idea wrong. The point was not to allocate the small amount or as low as possible, but a significant amount person can afford to lose. If you allocate a tiny amount, you wont feel any happiness from winning, or will run out of balance quick. And that might force you to deposit again, more. There's no ideal or correct percentage; it's completely up to you and how much money you're comfortable allocating towards gambling alone. If you're fine with spending $50 per week or month, even though it accounts for a higher percentage of your salary, then you don't have to worry. If you recommend 1-2% for him and he earn $100 a month, that means $1-$5 is what he has an allocation for gambling, how does he even divide that amount to wager? I'd like to think that I only use 10% of my salary in betting, but realistically it doesn't end up that way. During my early days of betting I would spend much more on betting, sometimes I would most of it, I use to be a bartender in my 20's and I would be living of daily tips, so as long as I had enough money for food and beer that day, the rest would go into betting on whatever was going on that day, I would guess about 80% of my tips that day.

I have always been of the opinion that gambling amounts shouldn't be calculated based on how much we earn, but rather based on how much one will be left after all the bills have been handled. There are people whose monthly earnings don't usually sustain them till the end of the year.

That percentage may be quite good, and it is effective in limiting us in managing money to be wasted on gambling, but this will be effective if at a certain level of income, maybe if we have an income of $1000 per month 5% will be very good and healthy as a budget for gambling in assessing risk and including financial expenses that do not give any impact, but what if the case is like you have an income of $200k per month, isn't 5% too large if only to be used in gambling.
