Most of the AC community wants the old sources to be fixed and patched. Therefore we are going to stop our work on ACv2. some reasons:
we are sorry to anounce this, but as you know, there is big responsibilty linked with such a project. and in this case we won't take responsibility over other peoples money. we wish you good luck! I had some AsiaCoin but I'm not going to open up the old wallet considering it might have key loggers / malware installed and as far as i know nobody has reviewed the old wallet's code.

The brand is tainted, as others have pointed out, we might as well go with a new coin name. We don't want to scare away investors in the future do we? So to succeed and have my support- a) start a new poll after taking in coin name suggestions and b) don't be stupid and have a self moderated thread and get accused for needless censorship. If your coin is successful, it's bound to have haters. Learn to deal with it. So Name is going to be changed (if poll say so). And yes there should not a possibility to delete unwanted posts. I'm watching your work and I hope to help you guys somehow. I was asking to myself if I can vote too for the name (since I have no ac maybe I shouldn't).
Anyway, my little opinion is: keep the name; that's a rebirth. That shows other people how (despite the old dev) community was always one of the greatest community a coin can have. Because AsiaCoin Community ALWAYS was great...if the coin was a scam it's not because of the community. Community believed in AsiaCoin...and it still does! That's the point of all the work you're doing...so I think you should keep the name (you probably will have to argue sometimes with people who will say: "AsiaCoin? that scam? ahahhah you smell!" but who cares?) Before offering my support for this new launch, I want to put forward a few thoughts: A) I think the first post needs to state whether any of the current developers on this coin are in any way involved in the initial asiacoin. Nobody is going to want to get involved in a project if it has existing ties to AC1. B) As far as a name, I think asiacoin needs to stay. I like AsiaCoin v2 [AC2] however, the adding V2 seems tacky, and might give a even more negative initial view to new contributors. I suggest the following: AsiaCoins [ACS] The coin(s) plural will speak to the initial asiacoin creation to compensate those who had funds in the original asiacoin, and the new asiacoin. (making multiple coins "plural") This will differentiate the two asiacoins, but will seem like a more natural name. C) There is a major problem with trying to compensate original holders of asiacoin. How do we verify who has legitimate coins, or who has coins from the genesis block? Can anyone verify if the dev ever sold any of his massive originally created coins? if he sold a bunch of them on the exchange, lots of bag holders are holding "dirty" coins. The only real option is to cut off any coins from the original genesis block, even if this means some bag holders get burned by this (I might be one of them). By doing this, we can ensure only properly mined coins will be compensated. Let me know how I can further contribute to the cause, I will mine this new coin if it comes to fruition. Why we are making this? well i got a lot of messages after i posted that i dicovered (with the support of rainy & bista) the premined block and warned the community (while they were laughing at me and shouting "FUD").. bitsta also discovered strange memroy hops and datacommunication within the AC wallet. well we sold all our coins (made a huge loss - bitsta lost about 25BTC....) and said lets forget it. but users kept writing us and asking to help them, support the community, maybe take the project over, etc.. and there are really a lot of users who want this project to be relaunched. a lot of people have still money in it. so there is still a value in this. at least in the community. and we just want to support those people. dont worry devs im sure more blessing will come to you guys., and after i got my money back, and solve my money problem in real life, ill help you to rise this new ac2. I took over a brand name once in retail that was crap no one would touch. First thing I wanted to do is change the name, but the factory involved had too much money in the old name and insisted on keeping it. Long story short with good customer service and writing wrongs for about a year it started to take off and going strong to this day. Just saying I know it can be done, but will be a long term investment. It would though also mean so much more to those who got burned on this as well. If it's less work to come up with a new coin all together and people can trade their AC for it that would be the way to go. As a community we could all hash on the new coin for a few days and divide the coins up accordingly. You could make a coin similar to doge that has a much lower difficulty and mine enough quickly to trade them to a 1:1 ratio. Something along this line anyway. I don't know how to get past the trust issues and validity of the coins traded for the new coin. So, if it can be saved save it and call it AC2 as that would be the best way to compensate those who mined and bought in to this coin and were not able to sell them. It would be an Epic Victory for the good people in this world who are involved in cryptocurrency if it can be done. Maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but that's my thought on it. The only problem in this way is how to make sure AC premine (that is not dumped yet) is not exchanged. In case of CAI, there is no such problem - devs have a good reputation, and premine destruction is done because of the reduction in total coins. CAI devs will not try to secretly exchange old premine to new coins. In case of AC, special mesures should be taken to avoid illegal premine to be exchanged. We cannot give back AC to those who managed to dump to BTC on exchanges as a) those people will end up with both AC and BTC but worse b) the person who bought the AC will have no AC and will have spent BTC on those AC that he no longer owns. It cannot happen this way. I am hoping that the premine coins are not being moved around and the ones that are left are still at that address or at least can be traced. We need to notify the exchanges that they must reinstate the market for withdrawals only so that all people can withdraw their AC to their wallet. We need to give a deadline for this and call out the exchanges that don't immediately allow this, they won't want the bad PR. Then once everyone has had a fair chance to consolidate their coins into their wallet the final block can arrive and the future exchange can happen without too much trouble and in a fair way. 1. Set a block in the future. 2. Estimate the date / time for this and make the block and the estimated date / time public. 3. Notify the exchanges and give them short timescale to allow withdrawals before calling them out if they don't allow. 4. Begin exchange / swap etc some time after final advertised block. Am I missing something? Thoughts? Edit: I have no personal gain here. I have the same number of coins as I had before the news broke, but I have consolidated them into my wallet since MintPal delisted AC. I had some on the exchange at the time but most in my wallet. I had some AsiaCoin but I'm not going to open up the old wallet considering it might have key loggers / malware installed and as far as i know nobody has reviewed the old wallet's code. The old dev stole lots of money from us and the exchanges by hiding a single line of code.....who's to say the wallet doesn't have more "surprises" I dont think they should even use the old wallet. They should create a new wallet altogether from some trustworthy source like LTC, VTC, UTC, ... That sounds good except that there would be much more work. I'm sure that these coins are much different than AsiaCoin, so lots of modifications and new code would be needed (well maybe UTC wouldn't be real much different.) The code from the old developer is good except for the scam stuff added. If that is used, it would have to be looked at carefully to make sure there aren't any more surprises. Another option would be to use a very similar coin with no known problems like blackcoin. If that is used it's code should be checked as well. I still advise that the Asiacoin src is just patched up and delivered by voiding the premine. Exchanges are ready to turn on their wallets again if we do so. We should just take that deal. Retaining the existing blockchain is worth something.. in fact .. it's the only intrinsic value of the coin. And thus would have a much better chance at retaining existing coin value than a new coin. This needs some serious thought as a lot of micryon is saying makes sense. I'm not sure what the right way to go is but we need to debate this. Think about it this way: anyone can make any number of new coins , and offer an exchange from AC (like what the panda guys are doing).. but it just won't be the same, it'll be perceived more as a giveaway than anything else. I've been through this before from experience trying to save RealStackCoin like this.. which although launched and made people feel better, eventually went down to 1 liteoshi in value. The issue is that there is an existing network, of exchanges pools , and people. Only a small percentage of those people will come and claim these coins, and getting exchange support AGAIN will be tough. and cost more money. I still advise that the Asiacoin src is just patched up and delivered by voiding the premine. Exchanges are ready to turn on their wallets again if we do so. We should just take that deal. Retaining the existing blockchain is worth something.. in fact .. it's the only intrinsic value of the coin. And thus would have a much better chance at retaining existing coin value than a new coin. +1, this seems to be a good idea. All exchanges, wallets.dat files would retain their exact amount as before. - I have went over the source via diff using WinMerge line by line.. and have isolated all the diffs (about 4), so there's nothing else wrong with the src. - Although the old client binaries cannot be trusted. Rebuilding the client from source and distributing it via compiled binary from a trusted dev is likely fine. After my forensic analysis.. this thing turned out to be just a fairly unsophisticated premine scam.. and really it was just laziness on everyone's part to get it to where it is +2.5 weeks.. The biggest technical hurdle with the patch is to make sure that the coins in the premine wallet cannot be used for staking, as it can be assuredly used to enable a 51% attack. That level @ which we all have an interest in keeping, the proof of coin ownership. Rip out the corruption, premine just enough so every honest stake holder has a coin, rebrand it and then lets fire up the new software, stronger than every before having had the experience laps into uncertainty. The exchanges would have to cooperate, all my coins are either on Bter or Cryptsy, but I think it would be in their very best interest to resolve this matter peacefully. IMHO it could mark a major milestone in crypto-coin currency history, if this could be pulled off, move on with a new coin and proof of steak for all existing holders. So it's very easy to adjust the POS reward so that the exact same # of coins appear in a year's time .. 320M from this point.. as long as the premine is eliminated from the equation.. In fact with a hardfork you can make any range of target for coins between 190m to some number.. if we want to keep it artificially rare.. it can just stay at 190M with 1% stake interest... By the time people are done with CINNI and FLT, WC will be at lean lightweight shuttle of 1300 in launch position. Its up from there and will make a brief pitstop at around 2400 for all the weak hearted to get off and then its to the moon. I'm going to play it safe and get out at 8k.... wait for the dump and get back in at 5k.
