Gas lines will stop flowing to Europe

No, there are more ways to send Gas to EU, but they are not enough efficient. Programmed 15% shortage of Gas supply from Russian Federation to EU.

Right now, more than half of the Russian gas destined to Europe flows through Ukraine. So all the major European nations, with the exception of Germany will face shortfall in the volume of gas from today onward.

"We reached no agreement and the chances that we will meet again are slim -- we are already on the plane heading back (to Moscow)," Kupriyanov told AFP. "If we receive no pre-payment by 10:00 am (0600GMT), then we obviously will deliver no gas."

It's already pass the deadline and I'm sure the Ukrainians haven't payed a single cent.

Check the news. The pipeline pressure is dropping, as the Russians have stopped the supply of gas. Within the next 48 hours, there won't be any more gas in the pipeline.

If it's such a real concern then how come more people are not bringing it up?

Less natural gas just means we might have to return to the 1910s - people used to wear jackets and boots indoors all the time.  Natural gas is technically one of those luxuries which permits you to wear T-Shirts and shorts, in a house, during the middle of winter.

Have you read the article ?

There is only one quote about a decision and that's:

Quote
Russia’s energy minister Aleksander Novak and Gazprom head Aleksey Miller will hold a press conference later this afternoon.

Although I don't argue the gas delivery might have indeed stopped there is no actual claim for that in the article.
Not even one.

Bryant , you're the data guy , are those numbers the actual flow of gas through the pipes right now or the average pumped on ?

It seems like the maximum capacity for the northern pipes is around 240milions per day, that's close to the numbers shown on the pic for all the pipes.

Seems like for the moment nordstream and yamal can take almost all the capacity.
But I doubt that the gas can be pumped from there to it's normal destination.

Also those are March numbers and the figures will change dramatically in October - November.
Becoming interesting.

Are you joking? Ukraine will steal the gas destined for Europe and the Russians will shut down the gas pipeline. It will happen within the next 24 hours. Germany, Poland.etc are going to be safe, thanks to Nord Stream. Serbia, Bulgaria.etc will have to live without any gas. Some small amounts can be transported through Blue Stream.... but that will amount to less than 5% of the demand.

Bulgaria still has 2 months of gas stored. Enough time to settle this.

But I wonder , If gazprom cuts supplies to the south eastern countries , won't they be accused of breaching their contract? After al they can claim the same , they signed a contract in which Gazprom agreed to deliver gas. Bulgaria has payed for it , it's gazprom fault for not sending it.

Why are they finding it hard to pay for this yet they have the money. If they cant pay all of it then at least some of the money like a quarter of it(255$ mill).
Maybe they will come to their senses once it gets shutdown.

An optimal scenario is continue the supplies without compensations of stolen volumes. Then Naftogaz of Ukraine will be responsible for shortages, because they are transportation contractor.

The contract is signed by Gazprom as well as by the transit countries. For example, Bulgaria's supplies are guaranteed by both the Gazprom and Naftogas. Both will have to pay compensations.

Not quite. There were an additional supplies in 2009, gazprom made them to compensate shortages. Maybe I'm wrong but I it seems unlikely that gazprom will do anything like that again, in the current situation.

Yes. In 2009, the Ukrainians had to pay for the stolen gas. But Gazprom received the payment only after 6 months or so. But back then, the EU officials were remaining neutral, not supporting Kiev.

Quote
“Volumes of gas for European customers will be fully met in compliance with their contracts. Naftogaz must ensure transportation to the delivery points," Kupriyanov said earlier.

So the Eu will sue gazprom who will sue naftogaz and this will take a few years , and probably nothing will happen.

Pretty interesting fact about the percentages posted by rt

http://rt.com/files/news/25/05/80/00/map-2.jpg

Although my country is shown with 87% dependency from Russian gas, that's 87% of the 27% we import to cover entire consumption.

According to the figures released by transgaz (national company) we need to close down only two chemical plants to sustain our consumption by our own.

Bulgaria has to make it to 2015 though

In December 2015, South Stream will deliver its first gas to Bulgaria,” Miller said.

But:

Quote
Russia will also continue to send 185 million cubic meters of gas through Ukraine to European destinations.

So , no problem for the rest of the eu?
We will only have to deal with what Ukraine takes from the transit gas? (steals)

The whole thing is a mess.

Even if they support the rebels in Lugansk , they will still need to take over the entire country to make the pipes safer.

And if they take over , they will also have to support the cost for rebuilding a demolished war country.
Not even talking about the fact that if Ukraine will join Russia , the debt will have to be waived.

Pretty interesting idea:

Why haven't the Ukrainians demanded for a 10% reduction of the debt since that gas was consumed by citizens of Crimea ? =)))
That would be hilarious

^^^ Everyone knows that Putin is not interested in adding the Donbass to Russia. So here are some of his options:

1. Support the rebels in Donbass. Send in the Spetsnaz and Omon, supply them with the latest weapons such as multi-barrel rocket launchers.
2. Make a secret deal with Poroshenko. Instant gas payment + recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea in return for withdrawal of support for the rebels.
3. Kiev agrees to the deal, Putin withdraws support, Donbass is conquered by the Kiev junta. Everything is peaceful once again.  ;D

How will Putin face the public reaction of leaving Russian civilians in the hands of the Kiev government when withdrawing his support from eastern Ukraine?
Even with all the propaganda he is a master in , he won't escape unscratched.

The first thing is already happening.I don't see the second one coming true.

First of all he will not offer public support. The weapons will be shipped secretly. And in the end he will ask the rebel leaders to either make a deal with Poroshenko, or to escape to Russia. Probably the rebel leaders will announce in the public that their demands have been met and they are stopping the war.

First of all, Ukraine can pay up the debt and agree to the EU-brokered deal of 385.
Second, South-Eastern countries should stop following the directives from Brussels (after conducting talks with Kerry) and shooting themselves in the foot by not wishing to conclude the South Stream.

Ukraine / Naftogaz does not have large gas storage facilities, such as the Etzel facility in Germany and Tarsus in Turkey. The current reserves will run out before the winter, when they need the maximum amount of gas.

I found this really well-written analysis that puts gas into the context of the ongoing war:
http://futuristrendcast.wordpress.com/2014/06/14/gas-wars-why-is-ukraine-refusing-to-pay-for-russian-gas/

Here is a short excerpt:
Quote
...

The only possible reason Yatsenyuk, Poroshenko, and Co. would be so arrogant and audacious is because they have received direct assurances from the US that it will be behind them 100%. The infamous #neocon Victoria #Nuland just visited Kiev. She didn’t bring any burgers and cookies for maidan this time, but she brought something else – direct orders.

The goals of Nuland’s visit were as follows:

1. To give orders to use phosphorus bombs in eastern Ukraine. Read Lada Ray’s Warning: Phosphorus Bombing of Slavyansk and Ukraine APCs Breach Russian Border

2. To give the green light to the Russian border provocation via Ukraine APCs. See the same article. Also read related:  Ukraine Part 6. Striking Geopolitical Similarities: Georgian War – Beijing2008 and Ukraine – Sochi2014. and Predictions page.

3. To sabotage gas price negotiations at any cost, which in the end will hurt both Russia and EU! Watch report: Gazprom sets last gas payment deadline for Ukraine.

Ukraine PM #Yatsenyuk gave order to all his underlings to prepare for the gas shut-off on Monday – the last deadline given by Russia for past due payment (4 deadlines have already gone by). Yatsenyuk and Poroshenko would rather have the entire country be without gas than agree on something reasonable with Russia.

Here is why.

1. They received a direct order from the Washington HQ to destabilize Russia and Europe, and to drive a wedge between them.

2. They desperately need to paint Russia as a villain who turned off the gas to the poor Ukrainian citizens, so later they can say that Russia is to blame for the economic collapse of the Ukraine. In reality, the collapse has been underway for the past 23 years

I've written an English translation of an article, giving detailed account of all three gas wars:

PS: read this article, quite enlightening:

Right, Europe insists on shooting itself in the foot. Even though the South Stream agreement was signed with Austria yesterday, the EU commissioner demands freeze of the construction of the South Stream:
http://lenta.ru/news/2014/06/25/south/

Interestingly, Miller promised yesterday, that Europe (at least the Northern part) will get their gas supplied in full despite sabotage by Ukraine, by increase in the flow in Yamal and North Stream pipelines.

By the way, The Supreme Court of Ukraine cleared Timoshenko of all charges, saying that the gas contract ($485 per thousand cubic) that she signed with Gazprom back in 2005 is not criminal or wrong. In other words, Ukraine said that the price that they are declining now is too low.  ;D

Seems like the EU is split on new sanctions on Russia.

Countries favoring new sanctions: Britain, France, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Countries opposing new sanctions: Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Austria, Spain, Portugal and Malta.

Ukraine cheats again with gas!

While Ukraine is saying that they receive reverse gas from Europe, they in fact installed a short by-pass pipe, circumventing the counter, and are pumping Russian gas that is supposed to get to Europe:

http://ria.ru/economy/20140701/1014327891.html

Hungary refuses to stop construction of South stream:
http://lenta.ru/news/2014/07/01/hungary/

PM Orban said that those who say that Hungary should refuse building South Stream, should at the same time tell Hungary how it is supposed to live without energy.

Nope. It would be more like if the cable to your house went through your neighbour's house, and the neighbour didn't pay the bill and then tempered with the cable, the supplier cuts the supply. At the same time the supplier tries to build another cable to your house (South Stream), yet your neighbour goes to the police (US) and says that he does not want you to have that alternative line. At which point, the police (US), goes to you (Europe) and blackmails you into stopping construction of a bypass line.

In the meantime, Ukraine finished the round of tenders to receive reverse gas from Europe through Slovakia:
http://ria.ru/world/20140702/1014483835.html

Just  a reminder that Slovakia (or Ukraine) will have to build a separate pipeline to Ukraine to send the reverse gas, as it is not allowed to syphon off gas from the pipe that goes to Europe (but is doing it anyway)

Ukraine continues to refuse to pay for gas (let alone the debt), even though the contract, signed by Timoshenko's government was acknowledged as legal by Ukrainian Supreme Court. Medvedev estimates that a full-scale energy crisis awaits Ukraine, close to the autumn:

An interesting bit of news. This might be the thing needed to save Ukraine economically (and might have been planned from the start of the Maidan "unrests"), but a complete change of the political leadership of Ukraine and warcrime trials must come first.

Ukrainian Ministry of Finance found 8 alternatives to Russian gas, including biodiesel and synthetic gas.
Another alternative is building an LNG, where Ukraine will receive gas at a market price of $380, though the question of who will deliver the gas is not decided (reminding that Russia, after mediating from EU, was offering a price of $385)

Daily mail is funny sometimes
UKRAINIAN ASTRONOMERS NAME STAR 'PUTIN IS A D***HEAD'

Ukrainian astronomers have named a star 'Putin is a D**khead' in a jibe aimed at the hated Russian president.

The star was adopted and named through the Pale Blue Dot Project, which allows anyone to adopt and name a star for just $10, with the money going to fund the hunt for Earth-like planets.

The co-ordinates of star which is officially named 'Putin Huilo' are: Celestial Star: right Ascension: 18 h 59 m 47.09 s Slope: 46 * 26 '44', 'magnitude: 11.

The term Putin Huilo is belived to have been coined by football fans and was widely chanted at matches, before being picked up by rock bands and becoming a popular internet meme.

It was widely shouted during the Maidan protest in Kiev which resulted in the ousting of President Yanukovych and his government

This will never be a feasible option. Because:

1. Gas prices are around $400 / K Cu M in Slovakia. Reverse gas will be even more expensive, when compared to the rate of $380 per K Cu M offered by Russia to Ukraine.

2. The Yamal and Nord Stream pipelines will run out of spare capacity in winter, when gas is needed the most.

And the final goal of the Ukraine coup is within reach:

Ukraine makes first step to let EU, US co-manage national gas pipes
http://rt.com/business/170436-ukraine-pipes-eu-us/

Quote
The Ukrainian parliament has passed the first reading of a bill allowing western companies to own up to 49 percent of the national gas transportation system (GTS), which is currently totally owned by Naftogaz Ukraine.

The 229 - 221 Friday vote means a foreign operator will be able to manage, be licensed to operate, or lease Ukraine’s gas pipelines or its underground storage, RIA reports.

On top of that, the Ukrainian government can set up a separate operator for the underground gas storage, where US and European companies could also get a 49 percent stake.

...

Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who proposed the bill, said it was a part of a bigger initiative to modernize Ukraine’s GTS and also strengthen Ukraine’s position as a transit country.

“Those who want to turn Ukraine’s pipes into scrap, play along with Russia in construction of South Stream, those don’t vote for the bill,” Yatsenyuk said on Thursday when the bill was first turned down

And some astute reader comments:

Yats must be getting very wealthy getting backhanders from all these big western players who he is helping rape Ukraines infrastructure.

W.J. van der Meer 07.07.2014 09:24
I am afraid Gazprom will shut off the gas supplies to Ukraine as soon as the South Stream is completed, making this project obsolete.

Ukraine gas debt exceeds $5bn, no June payments made - Gazprom
http://rt.com/business/171204-ukraine-gas-debt-gazprom/

Quote
Ukraine’s gas bill has risen another $838 million, after Kiev failed to make a payment for 1.7 billion cubic meters of Russian gas supplied in the first half of June.

“The deadline for paying June bills expired yesterday; we again didn’t receive the money from Naftogaz Ukraine. As a result Ukraine’s debt to Gazprom for the 1.7 billion cubic meters supplied from June 1 through June 16 rose to $5.296 billion,” Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said on Tuesday.

...

“Ukraine’s principle unwillingness to pay for Russian gas is becoming chronic, and once again shows the transition to aprepayment system, included in the contract, was the only correct decision,” Miller added.

They could have at least used those 5 million dollars, spent to honour Biden junior during the independence day (04.07) banquet in Kiev towards gas payments...

Ukraine's vice-PM Groisman said that Ukraine counts on buying 6-7 billion m3 of gas from Russia to survive the winter:
http://rusvesna.su/news/1405078155

I don't remember them starting paying yet, though...  ::)

In the meantime Naftagas halved gas delivery to power station of Kiev, and completely stopped such delivery to Harkov.

And another joke of the day: Standard & Poor's upgraded their rating of Ukraine from Negative to Stable.

So it must mean "stable poor condition" or "stable on the vector planned by the US"

Serbia is a landlocked country. South Stream will not be possible unless any of the coastal Balkan nations agree to its construction (Bulgaria, Romania, Greece.etc).
