Title: Invest bitcoins?
Post by: FlutterPie on July 11, 2014, 03:32:38 AM
I have some bitcoins I am not using right now, and I was wondering if I can invest them to make a little extra money. I heard of a site called btcjam.com not sure if this is the site I should use though? Does anyone suggest this site, or even another one that I can invest bitcoins to make a % back?

Cloud mining shouldn't be considered a safe investment, as the mining revenue will just go down rapdily when difficulty goes up...

if today is 2013, I would tell you buy any bitcoins, then sleep and sleep, you would be rich.
but this is 2014, we still have a great chance, you can do trading on LakeBTC (https://www.lakebtc.com), buy low and sell high. as long as you are diligent enough, a 10% return per month is no problem.

Investing in alt coins is risky rather than holding btc. Many alt coins is scam. The dev teams just pump and dump the coins then go. Many IPOs of new coins is not trustful.

I lost or took serious hits with coins I have invested in different shares.
However then I started trade and that's a gold mine. However, you need good bot for that if you don't want to watch your screen 24/7.
Haasbot if fine, look also maybe a bit easier to use alternative from my sig.

If you have any btc which you are not using simple don't mind about it!
After some month come back and see how Bitcoin's price goes....
It will be much better than now...
Investing bitcoin is really risky :(
I hope i helped you!

If you are completely clueless about what you are getting into IMO my best bit of advice would have been to leave it in your wallet. As far as the altcoin market im only holding some Monero long term. Of course you can always try to benefit from pump&dumps if you have the balls as it is very risky.
I would have invested in Moolah but during the IPO I didn't even had 0.15 which was the minimum entrance point.

You could invest in gambling sites but the site may close at any time, and so you should only invest it highly trusted sites.
You could lend it out to others but the borrowers may run away at any time, and so you should ask for collateral.

I am considering running a business to address Bitcoin investing. The whole idea is banks in different countries give out different interest rates. The country I live in (Iran) does have very high bank profits (result of inflation and high interest loans given). The standard banking profit is %10 a year, and can go up to %20 if the duration is more (5 years for example).

Bitcoin provides a good way to transfer money to Iran, as no international bank can handle low cost transactions here. If the added exchange rates of BTC/USD and USD/RLS are added I think it still may be profitable.

The main issue here is trust, as I know I couldn't have the trust of anybody here right now. If that can be handled, it is a sure investment, because the bank is building the profit not me  ;D

Any ideas ?

Even if you don't invest anywhere else, you are already invested in bitcoins.....

This is true. If your daily income is in a fiat currency, then you have already made your investment by buying BTc.
Presumably you have bought Bitcoin for a mixture of reasons
1) To pay for stuff with
2) To profit on through price increase
3) Because you think it's ideologically cool.

That's fair enough, but BTc is the investment, not the investment currency. Fiat is the currency, BTc is the commodity you buy with it. It may be a commodity which has financial applications, but it is the investment/speculation in itself.
There is a parallel with gold here. People buy gold with fiat because they want their "wealth" to be diversified out of paper. They don't then get their ingot or Double Eagle or whatever and think, right, what can I do with this?
The vast majority of "investments" offered for Bitcoin are scams designed to appeal to the naivety and greed of holders who think they should be doing something more than just holding their Bitcoin.
Nobody actually needs Bitcoin, unless they want to buy something which is only available or preferentially denominated in it and, apart from SR dr*gs, not many things fit that bill.
Fiat interest rates in most of the world are very low, so why should Bitcoin magically be able to return 1%+ per day?

Are you saying that your business will take btc, trade it for Iran local dollars, deposit the money in Iran local banks to get a high interest rate?
If that is the case, I see 3 big problems.
1. As you say, you can run away at any time.
2. The bitcoin price can change dramatically in a few years.
3. The forex exchange rate can change dramatically.

1. As you say, you can run away at any time.
Thats right. I don't know how people can trust me.

2. The bitcoin price can change dramatically in a few years.
Its the basis of investment using Bitcoin. If one believes in price fluctuations, holding bitcoins is more economical. Investments should report profit as percentage of bitcoin earned. BTC/USD is out of question here.

3. The forex exchange rate can change dramatically.
This is also true. The IRR has been stable for a year, but there is always the possibility of price change.

BTCJam is good, but make sure you put a small amount in lots of loans so you don't loose everything if someone defaults. Also be careful that you understand if the repayments are pegged to Bitstamp USD that means you could loose Bitcoin if the price of BTC goes up (but on the other side, you can make extra on top of the interest if the price goes down). There are also a couple of similar sites too.

There are loads of other good ways to invest Bitcoins - I have info on a couple of them in my signature  ;). Trading can be good, but requires a lot of time and effort and some skill. You can put them on Bitfinex and allow people to borrow them for leveraged trading, although the demand is more for USD so you might not get much there. You can go to NXT secure asset exchange to invest in a lot of different projects with Bitcoin, or sites like bitcoinbourse or cryptostocks - but be careful because there are a lot of scams so make sure you research well and are prepared to take some losses along the way.

Good luck!

Since I essentially plan to have a long position, I wouldn't mind generating a return (however small it may be) by providing liquidity.
But I do want to know if fees would eat into my returns.

Maybe I should keep up with my investments on Cryptostocks more, I hadn't realized MSP had done so well - I bought some of that.

I wish they would make it easier to check back on what price you bought at and what returns you've got - I only put a small amount of coins on each of a few things there, and its just too much effort for it to be worth my time bothering to really keep track of things on small amounts like that if I have to do it all myself with spreadsheets.

Do not listen to anyone here. Crypto stocks are like penny stocks, it's highly likely that you will lose money. Most of these stocks already failed, failing, or outright scams.

There are a lot of pump and dumpers on this forum looking for clueless newbies. Be careful.

Edit: This is also true for altcoins. The only purpose of them at this stage is making the creators $$$.

Why start counting from the top/alltime high. If you start at the bottom it looks a lot better. Any rally is followed by a correction and after it builds up again.

Not always the case in fact the majority of the time it varies on different cases higher risk doesn't mean you will get higher return if it is successful.

But it should be, otherwise there is a theoretical arbitrage opportunity present.

Look up capital asset pricing model (CAPM)

Has to be true. If there are 2 assets with the same current price / expected return, and one has higher risk, who will invest in the risky asset?
This implies that the price of the risky asset will come down (to attract investors) thereby increasing returns.
This is assuming efficient market, with well-informed investors. You will have some people investing in high risk, no return (scam) schemes. :D

Some of the dice sites offer great returns on your investment, much better than the stock market or especially a savings account. The risk is whether the site is legit enough to pay you, but the bigger ones are obviously not a huge risk for this.

you are right trading is a best way to earn money ! but you should know about market how rates are fluctuating in the market . you also need to take patience and have to control your greedy ness if you are greedy and wants to earn big profit in a single day or in single minute you will surely loose your money in trading . first study market and then start trading and you also need to choose a right platform which is stable here for the long term .

@hyipworld - Let us know if btclegacy returns your money after 5-6 days, or it is yet another scam.
its third day of the site but I don't want to play any more in this program ! I discus about program with many people they all said negative feedbacks to me about the site . I have earned 10% on my investment in 2 days . and its better for me from loosing money my principal :) hope who is playing this program they will soon open their eyes and leave this program before scam :P

It is great that they allowed you to take your money out.  :P

Google havelock investments. They sell shares to many bitcoin companies. BTCjam also offers a place like that, where you can make a nice 20% annually.

You could always drop your bitcoins into investment at dicebitco.in. They are nearly the same as just-dice was.

Dice bitcoin is a bit risky though, as they are a gambling website and if a whale bets a lot and wins, that would make you lose a lot of money. Long term it's safe to say you will make a profit, because of the 1% house edge

I have heard bad things about BTCjam, it is populated by scammers. They take out small loans, repay them to get good ratings, then take out a big loan and walk away. Rinse and repeat under a new username. So the site reports something like 75% repayment rate (I don't know the current stat), but the 25% that are not paid back are much larger loans than the ones that do get paid back. Basically, from an investor's point of view, it is a good way to lose money.

Have you had a look at mpex.ws (http://mpex.ws) as a place to invest?

this is true, if you try to google about BTCJAM many investors are not happy with them coz most have defaulted the loans and they can't get back any money

There are definately some great altcoins out there but you gotto do research. Don't go after shortterm hype things promising all the great features to develop, they may not deliver.
Best look at some older coins that are solid, still around and developing properly. You can read the ANN and all posts to get impression of the community.

I don't think altcoins are good investments. It is better to just keep your bitcoins.

I like alt coins so I don't agree they aren't a good investment, but Bitcoin is certainly looking cheap right now to me, with plenty of space for a nice rise.

Look at Reddcoin, trending up for couple days, could have bought 15 sat and sell 23 sat. It's a good example of a legit coin with a niche that is not very suitable for bitcoin.
I'm not selling any though, it can go much higher.

why you think it's looking cheap right now . if your reason is "Current Rate of Bitcoin " . I think its not the genuine reason because if you see growth of Bitcoin is really good . now which one altcoin you like and also you think which one is best to invest .

There are a few alt coins I like, including: StorjCoin, Counterparty, Bitshares, Crypti, Syscoin, XCurrency, Ripple. Not sure I can pick just one.

I think Bitcoin is cheap because I think the recent drop in price was due to short term factors rather than fundamentals, so I expect it the price to rise again soon.

fluctuation in price is necessary with every currency . if we talk about Bitcoin we all know that Bitcoin price increased very fast last year ! so it is very important to go down this year it will surely maintain future of Bitcoin into the market . I think this year's price will go to $700 maximum it is sufficient to me :)

For me, I will rather just put the bitcoin in a paper wallet, and keep it safe for a few years until the price is a lot higher than the current price.

I doubt any serious investor would pay MP 30 BTC to be able to trade heavily manipulated stocks with very little real value on his mpex exchange.

BTCjam had bad payback rates back when it started but it has been getting better since then and way more borrowers that defaults ends up having there assets & salerys seized by courts these days to repay there debts.

The repayed/overdue factor for BTC over all time was up till june 2014 2.09 or if you so like 67.6%, if you look at the 12 month period july 2013-june 2014 the factor was 6.93 or 87.4% and for the 6 month period 1 jan 2014- 30 june 2014 11.24 or 91.8%.

Repayment rates for BTC is better than if you compare it with the number of loans repayed/overdue so your wrong about that part to, the avg overdue loan is smaller than the avg loan in total, so most loans that is one or more days late on there payment is  relatively small.

Altcoin investments. Whaaaat? But they've all tanked!

Yes indeedee, but some of them have now stabilized at very low levels. I'm thinking XPM, QRK, NMC. These coins prices are flat and low, stable, not doing much. But they have the potential to overtake BTC at some point in the future. Diversifying a small qty of a portfolio into these will offset the risk of BTC failure.

BTC price is currently under pressure. The remittance potential seems to be more problematic than anticipated. Mining has become centralized, which raises the chances of a loss of faith in the currency. IMO anyone who does not have some diversity in their portfolio is being reckless.

I don't think gambling on casinos should be viewed as an investment at all, and it is never the best option.
It is alright to invest in trustworthy casinos' bankroll though IMO.

Have you seen how much 1 BTC  is going for on eBay?
You could sell at a huge profit. I have also noticed that the people from localbitcoin that take the time to meet up
In person (like Starbucks) sell for big money. Do one of these and buy more coins then repeat.
