I am a compulsive gambler, where are the gambling websites?
Sorry, Umbrella cryptos are not meant to be used in this fashion.  People may choose to develop these websites, but we will not actively seek out these types of projects.  On the flip-side, gambling websites would benefit from Umbrella products as an added layer of protection.  We would encourage these types of sites to hold Umbrella as a way to protect it’s customers and self.

Why aren’t we buying our way onto exchanges?
Umbrella is not looking to become the next pump and dump alt-coin.  We are here to fill a gap in the market that has existed for some time.  We will not support buying our way onto any exchange.  The CDIC is currently reaching out to a number of exchanges in an effort to make they’re work more transparent.  We anticipate exchanges who are onboard to have access to a larger customer base.  Coexisting as partners would be beneficial to all.

Where is the IPO?
We believe in letting the market determine a securities price (as it should be).  No IPO, ever.

Why POW and not POS?
Proof of work has stood the test of time.  We have always attributed POW coins to being more akin to a commodity.  We feel this element is irreplaceable.  This was one of the driving forces for our initial involvement in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general.  With that being said, we have no plans to release a POS coin.

Why release multiple cryptocurrencies, huh?
We took notice of the gargantuan amount of hash pointed at Bitcoin, Litecoin, and other popular cryptocurrencies.  We were not looking to compete with these giants.  We didn’t believe our currency would displace dominant industry leaders with large followings, large cash influx, and entire ecosystems built around them.  We had to be honest with ourselves and figure out a way to coexist with them.  Coming from a use-case perspective, we knew we had something unique that would bring value to the ecosystem.  By taking the secondary, or auxiliary blockchain role, we would allow ourselves to break into a large market with the path of least resistance.  By not forcing the miner to sacrifice his hash for Umbrella, we feel we have put ourselves in the best position to succeed.  Choosing one leader from each algorithm allows almost anyone access to Umbrella, no matter what they mine.

Why is the term “Hedging” used when referring to Umbrella?
Let’s first look at the definition of “hedge”.  (Taken from investopedia.com & investinganswers.com)

Hedge: Making an investment to reduce the risk of adverse price movements in an asset. Normally, a hedge consists of taking an offsetting position in a related security, such as a futures contract.
How it is used: Hedging is like buying insurance. It is protection against unforeseen events, but investors usually hope they never have to use it. Consider why almost everyone buys homeowner's insurance. Because the odds of having one’s house destroyed are relatively small, this may seem like a foolish investment. But our homes are very valuable to us and we would be devastated by their loss. Using options to hedge your portfolio essentially does the same thing. Should a stock or portfolio take an unforeseen turn, holding an option opposite of your position will help to limit your losses.

Umbrella uses the term to describe a risk management strategy.  By owning two different cryptocurrencies; Bitcoin and Umbrella-BTC for example, you are reducing your exposure to risk by diversifying.  Umbrella takes this one step further by being a fully insured cryptocurrency, this transfers the remainder of risk to the CDIC.  Since Umbrella borrows various methods and strategies from a host of securities, it is hard to classify it as solely insurance.

https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/umbrellaholdings/Bitcointalk/Infographic.png

Example: John owns 1 BTC and an equal amount (in value) of Umbrella-BTC.  Bob owns 1 BTC.  Both are held on Exchange XYZ.  Exchange XYZ fails and declares bankruptcy protection.  John opens up a claim to the CDIC and gets his Umbrella-BTC returned to him.  John is still out 1 BTC, but not completely wiped out by the exchange collapse.  On the other hand, Bob has lost all his money and has no where to turn for help.  He posts a sympathy thread on reddit hoping for donations :-(

Why do I need Umbrella?
As a community we have embraced autonomous digital currencies and have driven them to great heights.  We have enjoyed all the benefits they provide, from decentralization, to a certain amount of anonymity for everyday purchases.  The achilles heel is they are only as good as the exchange who holds them.  A look at history begins to paint a picture of extreme loss, fraud, and other misuse by these “trusted” exchanges.  Exchange fraud and insolvency have all too frequently become common headlines.  We want to see Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies flourish, these irresponsible acts are inexcusable as they tarnish the image of something we truly believe in.  The miner is almost always in the crosshair and has no where to turn for help.  We envision decentralised exchanges helping to solve some of the problems.  Other issues will not be solved anytime soon, such as the conversion to fiat.  Since fiat is not on a blockchain, we see no way for a complete decentralised exchange.

Enter Umbrella, the merge-minable aspect makes it effortless to mine your own insurance without sacrificing your hash.  Move it to a trusted CDIC approved exchange, or offline to the CDIC’s cold storage vault and you are covered, simple as that.

How Can I Get Involved?
We are always looking for people to get involved in any way possible.  We would like to take this opportunity to start the Umbrella Ambassador Program.  We have set aside a portion of pre-allocation funds to compensate these team members.  What does an ambassador look like?  They are the ones populating our Q&A’s, forums and Sub-Reddit.  They are the ones tweeting away helping Umbrella gain traction.  They are the bounty hunters and the advocates.  Everyone can contribute, we understand people from all walks of life with a host of skillsets subscribe to these forums.  PM us for more details.  Let’s build something great together!

https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/umbrellaholdings/team.png

Much to Do...
We have a long road ahead of us.  Product development includes a single multi-algo wallet once all Umbrella cryptos are finalized and out of beta.  The wallet will include in-app updates and a host of other features.  We are also working with the CDIC to insure Umbrella crypto’s while being held locally in their wallet.  We are working on several ways to satisfy their security requirements. We have a number of test environments setup that include two factor authentication via a token for the wallet, an Umbrella Linux distro similar to Qubes which would secure the wallet by isolation (Based on a secure bare-metal hypervisor - Xen).  Also, we are playing with some facial recognition API’s!

Coming soon.

https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/umbrellaholdings/Bitcointalk/Wallet+Skin3.png

Thank You!
We are happy with our progress thus far.  At this point we have thousands of hours invested with no plans on slowing down.  Part of the 1.5% pre-allocation is going to fund further development of our products, services, and the Umbrella ambassador program.  Stay tuned, and a deep thank you for taking to time to read this (we know it’s a lot).

Being that this is a merged-mined coin, a couple pools have asked for more time to test our mm proxy.

The community wanted the thread broken down since we are launching multiple coins.  Easier to keep track of news and updates for the particular coin you are mining or buying.

Thank you,

It'll be harder for you to track all 4 topics tho. You'll be working with people :)

We have not checked any of the pools yet.  Give them a few minutes to setup as I am sure this takes a while.  We submitted the source and files at 15:00GMT as stated, anything after that is out of our control.  We are here for support if needed but it would appear some pools must be online given the current difficulty.

why is the reward 5 instead of 10?

Insurance fund.  Look at the original Ann thread for more information.

Quote
How does it work?  In a nutshell, Crypto-Asset Backed Insurance or (CABI) is what makes Umbrella possible with no premium required from the exchange or miner.  A portion of Umbrellas block reward is automatically allocated into an insurance fund as it is mined.  The insurance block reward is set to decrease geometrically, with a (TBD)% reduction rate, every (TBD)# of blocks.  The CDIC will use proprietary algorithms to calculate the decreasing insurance allocation block reward/rate or (diaBR/r).  A byproduct of reducing the insurance block reward is an increased reward, for standard blocks.  One of the models used for calculating the (diaBR/r) is a modified Monte Carlo Method (VaR) or Value-at-Risk measure algorithm.  This algorithm factors in the historical data of failed exchanges, the amount of Umbrella holdings per exchange, and it’s distribution on the network.  Unlike the Greeks, duration and convexity, or beta, which only pertain to certain asset classes, value-at-risk is general.  This generality makes it suitable for our application.  These metrics will yield the rate at which insurance block rewards are generated and halved.

The insurance portion halves, it's not always a 1:1 ratio.  This coin most likely will belong to ASIC given it's algo..?  We are working on other coins that are ASIC resistant.

Thank you,

So am I missing something with this coin. I don't expect that the other 5 coins from each block to be released onto the exchanges. Aren't those intended to be security should something happen and the coins be stole or something. Or am I missing the intention of these coins.

If you have 5 Mhs with all ASIC around don`t complain about fair distribution. I have some rigs too but with GPUs there is no sense to mine. Bettrer point your GPUs on X11 coins or sth like this. If you want to get some coins it is better to rest some hashpower.

A portion of the premine to insurance, half the rewards to insurance, a new account/developer, plans on releasing/maintaining multiple coins instead of focusing on one, merged litecoin block chain not released merged, 99% of hash on one pool (decent pool btw), 3rd launch, ..... ?? ....

Read the Ann thread again.

No premine used for insurance.

We are only focusing on ULTC at the moment.

We have no control over pools, we could create our own but that would piss people off..right?  We tried FDC, no pools responded.  We reached out to several MM pools but they are slow to respond.  They are coming...

2nd Launch only because everyone was complaining about it being raped by solo miners.

So what is the solution?  Impossible to please everyone.  So far HC Miners seems like a good pool.

Maybe this isn't the coin for you?

Thank you for looking.

Maybe it just wasn't changed?

(1) - 1.5% For Development, Giveaways and Promotions.  .5% Donation to the CDIC.
(2) - (diaBR/r) = Decreasing Insurance Allocation Block Reward/Rate
(3) - (CABI) = Crypto-Asset Backed Insurance

Yup, try to lower intensity, that will get rid of your HW errors.
Did you try https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison for a comparison?

yes, i've used that before, i've dropped TC down to 24000 and still recieving same error.  removing TC from bat and running at -I 12 works, but its 1/4 of normal speed, which sucks.

i have r9 290 + (2)r9 290x, i've always ran TC 32765 without any problems, but it's saying my scrypt settings come to xxxxxxxxxxx and decrease TC or increase LG, idk what LG is, but i dropped TC even more and still not working.

i was getting all the HW i think bc i remove TC from bat

Odd, I run a couple R9 270 and didn't have to touch any settings.  Kept them the same as other scrypt coins.

I'm getting 555 hash on 7950's with this: Temp 64 at 75% fan speeds  ZERO HW errors  over clocked by 125, mem is stock.

echo on
 ECHO "cgminer miner startup"
 ECHO.
 setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
 setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
 cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum-eu.lbtc.hardcoreminers.com:3100 -u xxxx.1 -p x --thread-concurrency 8160 -I 17 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 24000 --gpu-memclock 1250 --gpu-engine 1075

Just as a reference....

Ok....  you  have a great coin here dev if  this...

He posts a sympathy thread on reddit hoping for donations :-(

...becomes truth all people eventually will get in , on this coin.

but we nedd marketing, a IRC channel for the comunity and some "trustable"  exchange.

well lets see tomorrow!

Question:
What is CDIC? Is it Canada Deposit Insurance corporation? If yes, then they ensure "deposits" in a bank:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_Deposit_Insurance_Corporation

" The CDIC insures Canadians' deposits held at Canadian banks (and other member institutions) up to CA$100,000 in case of a bank failure."

not some random company like Umbrella is showing itself to be. So yeah good try.

No its not. Either these are kids or some scammers trying to fool people. I might get flamed on this thread for saying this but this is the very definition of the shitcoin you mention in your signature.

Anything exchange related you would need to check on their website.  As far as USD, there is always special circumstances for conversion to fiat (AFAIK).

Do I need to get ID verified?
ID Verification is only required if you wish to trade with US Dollars. All other trades don't carry this restriction.

Hey, just finished looking over that site... what a well needed source of creditability, especially with all the crap coins coming out... just look at the last 2 coins that I foolishly mined, USB coin... Dead, and fuse coin, never really got off the ground and is on life support. A loss in electricity for me,,, and God only knows how much was wasted by tons of Rig Renters on both coins. So lesson learned. I will not mine any coins going forward without a coinsource trust rating!

I feel very confident in the umbrella coins dev, knowing that he is who he says he is! Finally some confidence can be applied now.

Anyone yelling scam in here can just take it all somewhere else as far as I'm concerned.  ;)

Question, do you have to have a coin first to get yourself rated? (wasn't real clear on that),,, this is something I would like to have in place for myself!  lol anyways glad to see that our Umbrella dev is the real deal!

The coin has only been out for 4 days.  I think everyone needs to just take a step back and look at the idea behind the coin.  Yes, pools will dump just like every other coin.  This lowers the price but there is some benefit to a more liquid market.  We just need to spread awareness about what the coin can do.  Keep shooting for other exchanges where we can gain some exposure and traction.  Atomic is great, but the overall volume is under 2 BTC per day.  Lets keep pushing forward, this coin can do great things given the right environment.  Once people realize the value of an insured crypto, buyers will come.  I am not worried about it and neither should any of you.

I can see that Umbrella-LTC and the other coins are going to take off once it become widely traded on multiple exchanges. Umbrella-LTC is unlike any other coin currently on the market.

Umbrella-LTC I believe is going to become highly marketable to merchants, given the insured aspect of the currency.

Agreed.  The problem we are going to face is acceptance.  We want to work with the exchange and bring some transparency to their work.  Some exchanges welcome this, others who are part of a conglomerate will not want this.  This is part of our mission, to expose shady exchanges for what they really are.  This is why we don't accept voting our way onto an exchange.  It feeds the cycle.

The truth is they wouldn't be in business if they didn't have the user base.  As much as people bitch and complain about shitcoins, they really want them.

Agent Smith said it best " But I believe that as a species, human beings define their reality through misery and suffering."

That prospect of getting in on an early pump, the untold riches...!  We will never rid the system of this type of behavior, the best we can do is spread awareness.

1) Merged mining: Is it really the same like mining Litecoin and Umbrella LTC with full hash rate separately? Why is not everybode merge mining if that's the case?

2) I might consider myself as Crypto-Newbie and have talked a lot with "non-tech" people about Cryptocurrencies. They don't get the revolutionary point and they don't care about the fascinating technology behind. All they ask is, why they should use them instead of credit cards etc. and where they can pay.

I think Umbrella coins could be the bridge to mainstream adoption! Think of PayPal - I really disregard them as seller, but from a buyer's perspective they are great. They offer security - or at least the feeling of security. This makes them successful despite enormous fees for the seller. If you can setup a similiar payment processor which is easy to use, has low fees, fairer dispute resolution and the backup of "umbrella insurance" it may be a huge success. I love the idea of secure exchanges. Also easy usability - I had smartphones long before the iPhone came out and nobody understood my need or fascination for them - think how Apple changed the market after that.

Cryptonerds might not like this kind of "institutional backup", but people generally trust institutions more then technical elegant "trustless" solutions - so yes, go for it - build the bridge for mainstream adoption :)

To keep this thread on track and free from clutter, as I have mentioned earlier I will remove baseless accusations of scams.  If there is evidence to support your claim, then present it for all to see.  If not, it's just FUD.

To respond to werwohl,

Our idea behind adopting the auxialry chain role was to break into the market easily.  Like you said, people who are already mining Litecoin, why wouldn't you also mine some uLTC?  We will see how this pans out.  We see other coins who are merged mining gaining large hash (1 is at roughly 1/4 of Litecoins total hash).  I assume this takes some time.  Again, we are only 5 days old.

I agree with what you say about people trusting a third party institution.  These are the same people who claim centralization is pure evil, but yet they trade and conduct business on centralized exchanges?  What's the logic in that?

If the consensus is that this third-party is deemed untrustworthy, what is everyone's thoughts on bringing that portion back in-house, and creating a foundation to fulfill the duties of claims and investigations?  This would be a good use-case for a foundation with real purpose.  Not marketing or forming one because Bitcoin has one.  This group would do real work that would benefit the community over time.  It can be structured fairly with 5, 7 or 9 members voted-in.  We can setup a multisig wallet that house the insurance funds?

Would this be more accepted by the community?  How would these members be compensated for their work?  How would we find them?

These are some questions to think about.  I am open for discussion on any matter or concern as it pertains to these coins.

Got the logo, should be getting the link soon.  Once they verify my home address we will have a maximum score of 7/7.

http://www.coinssource.com/trust/

Yes, for sure they are real and legit. I have personally spoken to the Dev, he is Awesome!
Yes indeed! not that I really ever had any doubts from the beginning, one only needed to look at the op and the very professionally done website to know this was not a fly by night" :) But the coinsource rating seals the deal for sure and hopefully for anyone else looking into the Umbrella coin collection, investment or mining :D

+1

Investment :)

YEah a separate party can help. I hope just 3rd party is legit too :)

HCM
http://ultc.hardcoreminers.com
Hard Core Miners,
I have noticed you don't host regular LTC on a pool, and I'm sure there is reasons for that. But wouldn't it be worth looking into now hosting LTC and set it up as merged mining pool with uLTC and possibly other coins? In the beginning you had a lot of happy miners and G/H in your uLTC pool, perhaps they would return and throw that hash back your way and keep mining uLTC and pick up the LTC too. You have a good working pool etc. and communicate well, so why not give it some thought. Many in here were there at the start, but we all realized,,, well I did, that the coin was intended to be (logically so) merged with LTC hence uLTC  :D

THX for any thoughts that way

I have been merge mining this for the last three days and I think it's a great way to go! It mines at about 4 ULTC to 1 LTC with my current setup and I like the fact that I get to mine two coins at the same time.

That's and interesting statistic 4/1 distribution.

I think that is a stat worth measuring. This coin is great, I think when miners understand how simple it is to mine they will realize what a good asset it is to have in their coin portfolio. They can either trade or let it sit as an added insurance feature to their portfolio. Of course right now that would be on Atomic trade as they are the only Umbrella approved Exchange for the insurance aspect.

I have already pointed all my scrypt miners to a merged mining pool and am reaping the benefits of 3 coins on GMC. I see this coin rocketing once it is just a little better understood. It has a dual purpose, unlike the traditional cookie cutter pump and dump coins.

uLTC is here to stay I would say  ;)

I cant wait till we see this on more merged mining pools and in the wallets of many more miners. Will be good for the coin value  :D

I've gotten a couple questions about Dogecoin moving to merge mining and what does this mean.

What this means to us is that you will soon be able to mine Umbrella-LTC, Dogecoin, and Pesetacoin all while mining Litecoin as the primary coin (participating pools).  As they will be adopting AuxPOW such as we have, their hope is that this will increase hash and better secure the network.

Good luck to them.

Just wanted to give an update.

I am working on improving the thread by reducing the clutter and making the concept easier to understand.  It's not so difficult if broken down properly.  Based on feedback I think we can do a better job.  Also should have a timeline up soon with accomplishments and future goals.

We have 2 pentests scheduled for next week.  This means another exchange is coming with much higher volume than Atomic.  We love Atomic and the team behind it and thank them for supporting us early on.

I am also actively seeking out new team members to help us on many fronts.  Willing to compensate for those interested in supporting our cause and contributing time to projects we are actively working on.  We are most interested in a developer and social media person.

Lets hope they consider it, I see nothing but a win win for them and Umbrella and LTC miners  ;)

PS: Going to throw a little hash at weminecoins see how it flows.... Would be better if uLTC was included  8)

Hey I just created an account there, and posted my plug to add uLTC :) actually I am right under your first post lol

Lets hope they consider it, I see nothing but a win win for them and Umbrella and LTC miners  ;)

PS: Going to throw a little hash at weminecoins see how it flows.... Would be better if uLTC was included  8)

Thank you sir!

Bounties for anyone who can get us on merged mined pools.

https://www.f2pool.com/ is worth 1000 ULTC.  About .4 BTC

Others are worth the same or less, depends on the GH.

Thanks!

Bi-Weekly Update:

A couple things going on right now that I want to share.

• We are in talks with 2 large pools to get added very soon.  This should put us on target for our 400GH/s goal by end of year.  This will put us in the top 3 for the most mined scrypt coin.

• We are also starting to accept applications for voting and non-voting board members.  These are the people who will make the decisions and help to shape the future and brand of Umbrella and it’s products.  Members and non-voting members will get monthly invites to our meetings.  Umbrella believes in community involvement to better extend our services and make them accessible to more people.  We can only reach this goal as a team.

• Prerequisites: Members need to be holding 750ULTC, while voting members need to be holding 1500+ULTC.

• Apply for admission on our website http://umbrella.holdings

• As some of you may have heard, we will be opening up Umbrella-LTC to cover Litecoin losses starting in November.  This is a huge undertaking and an industry first.  We are committed to making crypto safer and more accessible.  Board members get early access to this beta run.  More on the beta program and Litecoin insurance later this week.

• We still have the bounty program going on for those that can get us on large pools.  Up to 1 BTC is being offered depending on the amount of hash the pool manages.  Payable in Umbrella-LTC or Bitcoin.

• Also, we did some good last week and really showed what Umbrella can do.  If you missed the reimbursement, read it here: http://umbr.la/inSured

More to come later this week!

It's an innovative use of merge-mining. The insurance partnership with Poloniex sweetens the deal.

There is people willing to pull on this upwards, probably part of this same group of people reaccumulating at 40K. I assume this may be because they have sold their positions at 100k... But by keeping this, in this way, the will going to break the resistance point and then another dump will take place. As this is taking to much time and there was so much panic in between.
What I can say to help this coin to lvl it up again, is to stop the panic right now! And no body should sell for less than 100K. The one that always has te power is the seller, not the buyer.
This is a very good coin, as it is the first insured coin on the market! People is undervaluing and killing it down, treating it as a fucking garbage, fighting to sell without looking at what they have...
So everybody there. Stop the panic and stop with those cheap sales right now! Stay in your position at 100k mark. I guarantee you it'll rump up. Just be patient...

Apologize for the delay, I’ve been very busy.  Anyhow there hasn’t been much in the way of updates but I will communicate where we are at on various topics.  As usual, I don’t comment on price or speculation as these are out of my control.

Team:

We have received a few applications for board members and I will be going through those this week and reach out to potential members.  We still need to put together a team that will aid in investigations for claims.  If you are interested in helping, send me a PM.

Coins:

After watching ULTC these past few weeks there are a couple small elements that I think should be tweaked for UBTC.  I am thinking about slightly increasing the block reward and releasing it with a 2.0 wallet.  Bitcoin is a whole different animal and it should not have been programmed too similar to Litecoin.  I will make a final decision on changes to UBTC by next week.  Hopefully it won’t take too long to implement and push it out.  I know the demand is high for this coin and I will give ample warning before release.  I know many of you rented rigs for the ULTC launch so I will give at least a weeks notice and several updates including PR memos.

Wallet:

We are working on the newer style 2.0 wallet with some built in features like the premium calculator etc.  ETA is 3 weeks.  If you have any ideas for additional items you would like to see in the new wallet let us know.  Your input is always appreciated.

Insurance:

As mentioned several times, the CDIC is non existent as of November 1st.  The reimbursement, investigations and general insurance portion is being brought back in-house.  As stated above please shoot me a PM if you want to be part of this team.  If you know someone who would be a good fit send me the contact information so I can reach out to them.

Thread:

I have gotten some PM's about inaccuracies in the thread.  This will be cleaned up soon.

Thank You!

The wallet does not synchronize on Linux.
Please show the results of the getpeerinfo command.
since then, no more peers...
Now everything is fine, there are already peers.
Code:
umbrella-ltcd getpeerinfo

This looks like very good bitcoin cryptocurrency software as it offers good service. A good offer and price when you are using services is needed and more than that, the security is always an important part to look into. I have found a good cryptocurrency software myself that is offering a good deal on a license. Here is the link of it https://eesticonsulting.ee/ .
