Title: Bitcoin. Is. Awesome!
Post by: TheGalacticHacker on July 26, 2014, 04:50:17 AM
I've been lurking for a long time and figured I would finally post ;)

I have got to say that Bitcoin is totally awesome! I just purchased some bits and hosting all from my Nexus 5! The even more awesomer thing? I didn't have to enter any personal information! (Well, not entirely true: I did at Coinbase so I can buy bits instantly :))

Anyway, thanks for creating this wonderful community.

No. Most people agree that we are still in the early phase of this.

Welcome, yes you are right bitcoin is awesome, but people isn't.
Most of them are nice, but there is also a big percent who are scammers, so look out if you will ever do any transactions in the forum.

It's mesmerizing... People seem to be so astounded when they pay for some goods with Bitcoin for the first time. I'm still not certain if it is just a great feeling or if they really only then understand that it works out fine like with any other FIAT currency. - Even though people around here are mostly Bitcoin enthusiasts and supporters!

Hi

:D I see you have discovered "bitcoin anonymity" a great feature. But be aware, as you wrote, anonymity level depends also on your behaviour.

Keep that in mind, be vigilant.

Welcome and good luck discovering other great features.

Next time, you could buy bitcoin with face-to-face trades through localbitcoins, and you don't need to give any personal info to the bitcoin sellers. :D

Question: Why do you call them "bits"? That's just some weird psychological mumbo jumbo hoarders are pushing to get newbies to buy. They are called "bitcoins", man. BITCOINS. 1 BTC = 1 BTC. ;)

Yea, The bitcoin technology make so many things so easy. International transfers can now be done without much effort, with almost no fees.

And micro transactions are made possible for smaller guys to exist online. Where previously, online transactions, were VERY expensive, and the benefit of
doing online micro transactions, were absorbed by banking fees.

A true disruptive technology.  ;D

Bitcoin is great, but there is infinity of place for further improvement.
Im actualy sad to see so much price gain, and so little development on the coin itself, and on its infrastructure.

However, the real epic moments are yet to come, since in the following months/year many of the "if" questions will be answered, from many ban notices, to mainstream adption.
If it doesnt gain/keep traction, if will huff and puff, and be forgotten like it never existed

That's true the next few months/years are the make or break point for Bitcoin it's becoming a adult and growing but as it grows it will face more and more difficult problems. I have faith in it though as we have had some major speed bumps through the last year and we have recovered maybe not fully but we are on the right track of recovering fully.

That's my goal. I primarily plan to use Coinbase like PayPal. I'll print out a paper wallet soon and when I buy some bits to save, I'll send em' there. It's just nice having the ability to buy instantly. That's how Coinbase got me hooked.

Lets test how much you know about bitcoin.

Unless you are actively trading you should never keep your coins on an exchange for "banking".  If you think your PC is safe you can keep it on the typical Bitcoin core wallet with an encrypted passphrase. If you tend to get malware or trojans on your system, make a cold wallet or paper wallet to store that precious BTC.

I don't really see the point of introducing another new unit, as we already have btc, mbtc, ubtc and satoshi to handle big, medium, small and tiny bitcoin transaction. :)

Exactly. You will still go to forums and IRC when there is no payment.
So instead of viewing the sig campaign as a job, you should consider it some kind of bonus or by-product lol.

Well, all bitcoin transactions are public in the blockchain, but people won't be able to connect your bitcoin addresses with you. :)
And you can further improve it with mixers. :)

Congrats on your first coin. Be prepared because this becomes addictive. You can also check out electrum especially if you have an offline computer. I have mine setup so that my online PC is a watch only wallet. If I want to send btc then i must generate the tx on my offline pc and place the signed tx on a usb and then execute it on my watch only client.

This process keeps my coin very secure and lowers your chances of coin being stolen to near zero.

Light wallets are fine too, like Multibit which doesn't have to download the whole blockchain.

I love lite wallets too. They're "plug n' play". Just download and install it to a USB stick and you got an offline wallet.

Yup, they are easy to use as you don't need to download the 20+ GB full blockchain data.
BTW, I prefer Electrum over Multibit as it is deterministic.

+1

Building that pyramid, like the ancient Egyptians!

For start, if you have zero bitcoins, you can visit some faucets and cumulating altcoins, when you are ready, visit an exchange and sell & buy & sell some coins, finally send the microbitcoins to your synchronized wallet. It's a nice start  ;)

I've tried with faucets but couldnt earn anything, only few satoshis worth nothing.

Hi,
dont waste your time on Bitcoin faucets, but try some signature campaign or some alt coin which is only giving you money for signing, not for mining :)
I managed to earn some nice cash with LAT ...Stellar is also looking very profitable :)

You can earn bitcoin by selling goods and services, or earn from signature campaign (you can do it already at newbie rank).

Or, you can buy a small amount of bitcoin via localbitcoins or bitcoin ATM.

Great thing you registered! Welcome!
Yeah it's an awesome feeling doing it for the first time. You think you've got it all figured out in theory - you do! But really experiencing how well and fast it works is another thing. It lets you 'get' Bitcoin better!
