August 21th you will get a free stake in two new cryptos if you hold PTS in your wallet!

This is what we call a snapshot in the BitShares community. Holding a certain crypto gives you a stake in another crypto.

BitShares PTS is the mother-coin of all BitShares products, and has already given rise to BitShares X (http://bitshares-x.info/),
(as well as third party coins such as Memorycoin  (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=35.0)and LottoShares  (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?board=59.0)by FreeTrade).

What this all means is that BitShares PTS is charging up for yet another bull run!

The two new cryptos are BitShares DNS (http://dotp2p.io/) and BitShares Vote (http://followmyvote.com/) (not updated in the picture).

In other words, the way to get BitShares DNS and BitShares Vote is to hold PTS in your wallet 21th August.
A snapshot will be taken of your PTS balance that day.
Later you will be able to claim (with that wallet, that private key)
a stake (proportional to that balance) in BitShares DNS and BitShares Vote when they each launch.

Instead of holding PTS in your wallet August 21th, you can also leave your PTS with BTER and BTC38, as
BTER AND BTC38 have promised to take snapshot of your PTS for you
to make it easier for users to receive their stake in BitShares DNS and BitShares Vote,

Also note that this means that BitShares PTS price will fall immediately after August 21th,
as everyone who bought BitShares PTS just to get a stake in Vote and DNS will be free to sell their PTS.

Btc38 apparently is taking part in the snapshot, but remember you don't follow too closely you might miss out on snapshots - there is going to be a DAC flood soon. So better to keep them in your wallet when you are not trading.

Either or both.

Typically a minimum of 10% goes to each.

It is difficult both to understand and to communicate effectively.

To confirm:

You only need to hold BitShares PTS at the end of August 21th either
1) in your wallet and retain control of private keys (you use these keys when the time comes to claim your stake) or
2) at BTC38/BTER as they have promised to claim your stake for you when the time comes

BitShares PTS can be obtained by

It will be interesting, I haven't learnt much about the Vote DAC yet, but The DNS DAC I really like in general and it gives 40% of the initial equity to PTS which is good too especially when you think NameCoin is $14 million and BitShares DNS pretty much blows NameCoin out the water imo.

Is cryptsy not honouring the snapshot?

I do not recall seeing an official announcement from Cryptsy, thus it would be wise to move any PTS to a personal wallet.

They didn't honour earlier too, so I doubt they will this time.

Withdraw your PTS well in advance as block times are very slow now.

For everyone who isn't familiar with BitShares PTS:
I'll share a couple of great analogies that have been floating around and have helped my understanding how they relate to the market of the BitShares platform.

• PTS are like the geese that lay golden eggs - for every new DAC that is released, those who already own PTS will get a stake (like Xeldal mentions, typically 10% - but can also be more!  It's all up to the developers of the particular DAC how much they'd like to allocate)
• PTS are kind of like a heart rate monitor for DAC ecosystem - The market depth illustrates the public perception of the DAC being launched.

Yeap I'm buying too. Don't think AGS is relevant anymore. IMHO because you can't donate to Ags anyway so it confuse people more then else. PTS that the way to go. This is what is amazing about Bitshares.. you could still invest in any new DAC that is coming out, that's brilliant still !!

These two snapshots are like a family tree, with PTS and AGS as parents.  Whenever a child is born, a new DAC is launched, the parents are blessed.

AGS was a donation from individuals who believe in the project and its goal of making an open source toolkit that enables the open source movement to build ethical, automatically diversified investment stake in their own Bitcoin-based ecosystem.  Bitcoin's source code (or slight offshoots) has given the ability to create DACs that function as a primary currency. Bitshares comes in and says "hey, if you really want to give value to your coin's holders...honor them by developing industries in your coin's ecosystem and sharedrop to them for being loyal."  "Oh, btw, here is a toolkit that will make your DACs have TITAN and DPOS, so you can protect your users' privacy and enable community members to vote in delegates that help fund infrastructure..."

Of course AGS holders hope that those who use the bitshares toolkit will honor them for risking their hard-earned cash to help finance the construction of such a wonderful tool (as opposed to participating in the multiple Pump and Dumps for which their funds could have been used).  I personally was one of those people, so if I get a snapshot of a DAC developed that also honors AGS, then I'll definitely smile about it, but even if not, I at least know my investment will help protect noobies from buying Sh!tcoins whose devs/miners only want to virally pump and dump on them.  That is payment enough :)

To be totally honest, I was the guy that started advocating Ora to use Bitshares technology. As Bitshares DPOS is the leading crypto technology today, imo. What is surprising to me is that even people in the crypto space have hard time understanding its value (read ORA developers). On the other hand the people that once 'get it' are turned into true believers. Example: The asking price for PTS today is almost 2 times more than what you would have get if you donated to AGS just a moth ago. And the people are still increasing their PTS holdings at those price levels.

...and I do not blame them!

PTS is no doubt a never-sell, because you never know what it will give it to you, FOR FREE!

This renewed my interested in PTS. I remembered mining it back in January on a bunch of google compute engines and making next to nothing. I since then have upgraded and pointed my miner at ypool. I hope I can accumulate some before the August 21st Snapshot.

Getting 2 DACS for doing nothing more than holding a coin? Great... count me in. I already love POS type coins.

I prefer just buying small amounts here and there rather than bothering with mining.  So far any mining I've done on any coin I would have been better off just buying it.  taking into account time spent fiddling with it etc.

Very excited about these 2 snapshots.  Both DAC's could be monumental in the long run, they address some major needs.

Thats a tough question to answer right now. Buy PTS before the snapshot and receive free shares on BTS DNS  and BTS Vote?

or buy BTSX because it is very  undervalued?

When it gets closer to the snapshot how is it determined which block represents the snapshot?

In the FollowMyVote newsletter (http://us6.campaign-archive1.com/?u=c9b7375e368a99f1d14b41d74&id=3c7f13a1df) that "The official snapshot of the VOTE DAC will take place at 23:59:59 UTC on August 21, 2014!"

I am fairly certain that the same holds for BitShares DNS (http://dotp2p.io/). Last block August 21th UTC.

Im surprised the price of pts has not budged.  Last time around with btsx the price rocketed up and back down as anticipated.  Two very interesting products but no takers?

I really don't care about the price of pts, just seems it shows a lack of interest?  These two products on paper can have a very large positive effect for the crypto world.  I hope they see the light of day and a minute in the spotlight instead of pow clones.

I'm surprised it hasn't exploded too.  The 7 PTS I held on the Feb 18 snapshot, brought me over 3600 BTSX, which are currently valued at nearly .1BTC. That's .1BTC for FREE.  Hopefully get the same return on tomorrow's snapshot.

I may dump my PTS after the snapshot, and rebuy more at a lower price, in preparation for the next snapshot.

the snapshot will be taken. if you hold pts make sure to transfer your shares to your wallet with your private key. if you are not sure, that your transaction will get threw, please contact if your exchange will honor the snapshot. bter and btc38 will honor, poloniex consider it.

So I bought some BitShares PTS... is it the wallet from 17th of february(githubdate) the one I need to transfer my PTS to ?

Yes, later you will import your PTS wallet (where was balances at snapshot) and get your shares.

okay cool! downloaded the BTSX wallet at first and it looked extremely nice.. so I was confused because the normal PTS wallet looks quite standart like every other

After seeing the latest wallet screen shot of BTSX market features I have a good feeling about these two new DAC's.  Looks like the market features will be released very soon, exciting times all around.

I purchased my first PTS shares today partly so that I could receive shares in these two new DAC launches, as well as subsequent ones.

Will we be required to import our PTS wallet for each and every DAC that is launched or will that process eventually be automated?

You'll need to import your PTS wallet, but it may become simpler than it is now. There are talks of upgrading PTS, but nothing definite yet.

What does "importing your PTS wallet" entail? Is holding PTS in your wallet not enough to collect your share of future DACs?

Yes its enough,
but you will need to import your wallet in the new DAC qt ( or whatever software it will be )
to be able to spend them !

Means importing your PTS wallet into the DAC's client. Later on, this step may become unnecessary, since there maybe other ways to prove ownership. But right now, all clients so far requires importing your wallet/private key.

I guess I missed bitshares x (Feb. 28th). I only transferred my pts to my bts wallet on the 16th of Aug. Are there DACs that I can participate in yet, or are we waiting for bitshares music and others to emerge? And where can I find a list of available DACs?
