Title: [CLOSED] Prisma 1.4Th/s group buy @ 1.42 btc with coupon
Post by: CanaryInTheMine on September 24, 2014, 07:04:13 PM
I do not PM payment requests with an address different from below in red.
Group is open.  Please get your payments in ASAP.  Orders are going out to ASICMiner daily.

Price is 1.47 btc per Prisma.  Shipping is in the order of payment received, per blockchain.

If you bought a tube through one of my prior groups, you can take .05 off (coupon) your total price is then 1.42 btc

payment address: 17dpHMYUvkgetWBnEyNL9iZu4nvjgN9kHr

approximately what the Prisma should look like:
https://i.imgur.com/c6FqrNs.png

per friedcat's post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=791827.0
Brief
ASICMiner Prisma is based on a proprietary X48 design for BE200. It greatly reduces power
consumption of the device per GH/s compared to the X24 design.

It takes the same cooling structure and similar form factor as the ASICMiner Tube, while being even more efficient and compact. Also, we added cgminer support on Raspberry PI.

Spec
Hashrate: 350-370GH/s per hashing unit in normal mode, 1400-1480GH/s per full device.

Power consumption: ~0.67 W/G board-wise. On-wall power consumption relies on PSU
efficiency. (typically 1050-1100 W per full device, 0.75-0.78 W/G)

Size: 35cmx12cmx12cm per full device.

Weight: 7.5kg per full device.

Powering: One 6pin PCI-E plugs per hashing unit.

The hashing units are driven by ethernet controllers. It can also be driven by cgminer on Raspberry PI.
Each ethernet controller or Raspberry PI can run up to 32 units.

Round 1 Sales

Shipping date: 8th October, 2014 to 27th October, 2014
You will send me your labels (your choice of carrier) and sign the tracking number with a sending address from your transaction (prevents fraud and protects the buyer).Shipping from zip 60181.  Create a self-addressed label: From and To fields contain your address.
No international orders.  This is a domestic group buy.

You will need to email me a label to canary.btc@gmail.com.  When you email the label, please sign the tracking numbers and include signature of the signed message. example:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
123456789789123,789789979768464986

-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Connectivity:  a USB interface is included with each Prisma, you will need to connect it to any host running cgminer.  No BE ethernet controller is included.  If you already have a BE controller, you can certainly attach your prisma to it by daisy chaining it.  But it's probably better to use the included USB interface and run it through cgminer.

For your labels:

Box dimensions: 18x11x11 Weight: 16.5 lbs. 18x13x13 Weight: 17.5 lbs.

When creating a label, check if price is the same for 17 lbs and 15 oz vs. 17.5 (.5 is 8 oz).
I suspect it's the same and recommend, in such a case, to specify 17lbs 15 oz to give yourselves plenty of spare room.

to generate a shipping label you can use fedex or ups websites to generate a self addressed label .  shipping from zip code 60181
you then save/print as pdf.  something I can print on a peelable label (regular page size, 2 peelable labels per page is what I currently use)

with USPS.com you can create a priority mail shipping label addressed to yourself.  i.e. to and from address section has your address.  shipping however is from zip 60181 (specify this).  when you generate label, it's helpful to select option (print two per page) and save the pdf file.  you will email me that pdf.

http://i58.tinypic.com/hwmqs0.jpg

got a couple questions on how to sign your tracking numbers.
this old thread might be of some help: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=180068.0
most wallets support signing, you may need to google it or lookup help sections on how to do it.

Those with existing tubes can just connect a prisma to the existing chain/controller.  So adding a prisma should be very easy.

I am super in, make it happen Canary!!! :)

If you can use cgminer on the Prisma (via a Pi controller), this thing destroys anything else out there.  Bitmain wants 3.4 BTC for a S4, this will be about 40% off compared to the S4.  I know, the S4 has a PSU, but for ~1.4 BTC I think you can find a PSU.

Anyways, I am excited about this thing.  The tube was great, but a little difficult with the proprietary controller.  This one looks to solve the only problem of the Tube.

I'm considering this, but I'd like to see more details first (I'm a first time buyer, no Tube or any other miner yet), but:

  • I'm confused, two group buys for the same unit at the same time?
  • Wouldn't it make more sense to have one combined group buy?
  • What's the difference?
  • Is this GB only for folks in the US (I'm here in Europe)?

Hey Canary,

Any ETA on the pricing yet?   I am sure you are trying to get that sorted, just some idea of when it might be ready would be good for folks who are trying to put a plan in action.

Thank you!!!

Looks like pricing will be ~1.47 per prism. (Subject to change if costs change with manufacturer)
No BE controller included since its been causing you more grief than it's worth.

A USB interface will be provided which you can connect to anything capable of running cgminer.

Based on my experience with ASICMiner chips through USB interface, I do not recommend rPi for set it and forget it operations.  Consider a cubieboard A10 or any system that does not have Pi's USB bus limitations.

However, you can always run on a Pi if you wish, that's up to you.

Payment addy will be in OP, I do not PM payment addresses.

I'm certainly interested in grabbing (at least) one.   I assume a BeagleBone Black would fit your definition of "not a RasPi," yes?

Any idea how people are intended to get these working -- like, is there going to be a driver released for cgminer, so we can be getting the little boards ready?  Or is it a "hope and pray they at least put a download of a custom cgminer somewhere" kind of thing?
Edit, nevermind you clearly already answered this in your previous post, my broken internal parser must *still* be pretty broken, sorry!

Final question:  FCat originally said the system would work with a RasPi, and he said you could control >2 devices from that -- so am I safe in assuming that multiple Prismas connect via a standard usb hub (since the RasPi only has 2 USB ports anyway)?

The wording they chose seems almost deliberately confusing...something about "they are all controlled by ethernet...you will use usb to connect them" ...I think that's the part where my internal parser thew an exception and refused to continue. :)

correct, no PSU is included... you have to provide a power source.

Hey Canery,

1. Does each unit come with the USB device?  I am planning to deploy one at each of my sites so would need to control them separately.

2. Have ordered an A20, so wondering if you are working on an image for it?
If no one starts this before I can get to it, I may start trying to port MinePeon to the device.

3. Is it possible to split PSU these units?
I have several of the HP DL380 850W PSUs. What I was thinking was put two boards on each supply. Thus giving head room for overclocking.

I will be in for 2 just got to wait for transfer in from bank to Coinbase.

for question number 3.

I had the short tubes and I was able to use 2 psu's on 1 tube.

Each short tube has 4 sides   each side has 2 pcie jacks

Never plug in two psu's to 1 side

but 1 psu plugged into 2 sides and 1 psu plugged into   the other 2 sides is safe

Always leave 1 pcie jack of the two jack  on each side  empty and you will never fuck up.

look at the side with 2 red pcie plugs  in the two jacks.     this is safe with the same psu.   DEATH if  you do this with 2 different psu's

I thought I had read about someone doing it with the Tube but could not remember.  The tube was just not enough bang for the buck with it's controller issues.  I use ghash.io and the "last pool in a thousand lakes" so was not keen possibly only being able to mine there with it. 2. Have ordered an A20, so wondering if you are working on an image for it? If no one starts this before I can get to it, I may start trying to port MinePeon to the device.

That would be great! I've already asked in the official Prisma and MinePeon threads about it, but no response (yet).

you can install your choice of OS image on the cubie and then install the cgminer on it...
I think cubie has a website with all kinds of software packages: http://cubieboard.org/download/

I could just do that, but wouldn't be nice to have a pretty web GUI.

Arch has a supported build for it so we can build on what MineForman has made with the Pi and maybe make it better.

Does cgminer do the firmware upgrades to the boards or are we going to need the Ethernet controller to do that?

Interesting, never heard of Cubieboard before, but I've just taken a look, and it's rather expensive, isn't it?

The control unit should be low budget, powerful enough to drive at least 4 Prismas (better would be 5, then you only need two control units for a set of 10 Prismas), easy to put AM's cgminer version and a miner OS with web-GUI on (meanwhile I think Minera (http://getminera.com/) looks more promising than MinePeon, which hasn't been updated since March).

This all is very exciting, but time consuming for me as I don't have enough time to follow my hobbies right now. As said before, it does not make sense for every Prisma buyer to reinvent the wheel himself, and I have hopes that someone will step up and prepare a ready to use image with Minera + AM's cgminer version for Prisma, then I would just buy whichever controller hardware is supported.

well , the "expensive" depends on many things.... For example, a single A10 runs 4 rockminer R3/4 units like a champ with no similar USB bus issues as compared to a Pi.
so if you run four R4s with 4 Pis, then one Cubie A10 is cheaper than having to buy 4 Pis. (you can'r run 4 R3/4s with 1 Pi for ex.)
with Tubes/Prismas, it may be a similar situation, but until we have tested this thoroughly, we just don't know yet.
and also, you can use whatever you have to run cgminer, it's not necessary to go out and start buying Pis or cubies to run prisms... if you have a laptop or a system that can run cgminer, you can use that...

I know I could use any computer as control unit, but I'd like to have one for more than one Prisma and it should be a low power unit as it's going to run 24/7.

I'm not really into RPI, so I'm open to suggestions, any capable of running Minera with cgminer would do, as long as it's cheap and suitable.

Can you tell me, what those USB issues with the RPI exactly are? I mean, some USB handling can't be too much even for the weakest devices. Is it the same problem if using a self-powered USB hub on a RPI?

If power specs are where they claim, our DPS-2000BB power setups should roll two of these without trouble. A pair of D750s load-balanced should handle one pretty well.

Old, no longer used laptop should work.  Prismas now have that USB interface and you can run cgminer.  No need for that BE controller.  Much simpler now

Edit: if you have a Pi you could also try that although I doubt you can run many prisma's successfuly on 1 Pi. (Cpu and USB bus issues)

Not an issue using their USB interface.  In my group, I don't even bother with the BE controller.
Use cgminer, run whatever pool confit you want.

For your labels:

Box dimensions: 18x11x11

Weight: 16.5 lbs.

20 units are going out to the first 20 orders according to blockchain payments.  I've PMed the first 20.

When creating a label, check if price is the same for 16 lbs and 15 oz vs. 16.5 (.5 is 8 oz).
I suspect it's the same and recommend, in such a case, to specify 16lbs 15 oz to give yourselves plenty of spare room.

It is my understanding that there are 4 separate boards each with 2 PCI/E connector.  Would you be able to use 2 PSU for the miner as long as each PSU is on 2 boards?  Not using 2 PSU for 1 board?

It is my understanding that there are 4 separate boards each with 2 PCI/E connector.  Would you be able to use 2 PSU for the miner as long as each PSU is on 2 boards?  Not using 2 PSU for 1 board?

I asked this in another thread.

I was told that as long as you don't plug two separate PSUs into one board you are fine. Here is what I am going to do for two of mine.

I have several of the HP 850W PSUs and adapter boards. If I had 220v they would be 1000w. That's a later upgrade. Each PSU has 4 PCIe connectors.

The Prisma has 4 boards with 2 PCIe connectors on each board. According to the posts, each board can run on 1 power connection. I am however going to hook 2 up to each board. This has the advantage of splitting the load on the wire. Mathematically this will cause the wires to heat less, as the Amp load vs wire resistance will be less.

Note, be careful with PSUs that use one cable to feed multiple PCIe connecters. If you can't see individual wires all the way from the PSU their May be junction somewhere. Junctions, depending on how well they are made can heat to dangerous levels.

So what I will end up with is a Prisma split into two power sections. I should end up with about 125w of headroom per PSU.

this worked on my 2 short tubes.

I used 5 cables from my evga 1300 . 4 doing 1 full short tube. 800 watts

  I used the 5th  cable on tube 2 board 1   200 watts

I then used 3 cables from a seasonic  760  watt plat    3x 200 = 600 of 760 watts

If I send you my payment today, when will it be ordered and what's the ETA to me in NJ?

Also, where are you shipping from?

FWIW I was told a couple of days ago that there are no "spares" - pay up and get in line :)

Now that AM started shipping I hope new orders will be coming fast. I'm waiting to try out the first one and if it meets expectations will probably order more.

my orders were already placed a while back.  I'm not waiting for payment to place your order.
I'm waiting on info to find out when the rest of inventory is shipping out.  spoke to AM today, should get an update tomorrow
so when you send payment, you are reserving inventory that's already paid for.
shipping from 60181.
speed depends on your shipping label/method.

This would be very helpful.  I am on the fence as to order from canary or crazyguy.  Knowing when I might be able to get my hands on one of these would be a HUGE

deciding factor.

new orders would go into the batch that I already have ordered with AM.  So you're not going to be waiting for me to order after you pay.
Best way to get inventory allocated is to send payment.  I think you know my history and reputation.

Please use caution when unpacking your prismas as the unit may shift inside the foam capsule...
I do not recommend pulling it out from one of the sides.  Remove the side foam caps and then separate one of the lengthwise foam sides CAREFULLY and lift the prisma out of it's foam shell.  You will see upon closer visual inspection that the lengthwise foam panels are glued at the corners.  That would be a good place to separate them to get to the prisma.

I think there's a chance to snag a component if you just pull the tube out from the side of the foam casing.

Received my Prisma today. I had a bit of trouble with the USB adapter, I guess the most recent Windows build of cgminer doesn't have the blockerupter stuff integrated yet? But AM's specific release is working just fine. Lit up across a pair of our D750 PSUs currently.

Thanks for doing what you do, Canary.

Nope, no antistatic bag :)

Unpacking wasn't a problem. Instead of trying to pull the device out, I was able to slide the outer foam "case" off, it did not touch the caps or anything, the miner has some foam spacers around it.

I got it running with cgminer on Linux within about 10 minutes after connecting the cables, most of that time was to find the github link :)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=791827.msg9138614#msg9138614

Some minor quality issues (fan screws loose), other than that I'm very impressed. 1400+ GH/S as advertised. It's pulling ~5 amps at 230V on EVGA 1300 G2 (80+ Gold).

Nice be a d* I simply stated on the other thread that I did make a purchase and did not recommend anyone else do the same yeah was a stupid move and asking the moderator of this thread why they removed the post is not a bad thing most of the time some indication of why is mentioned but you keep on enjoying, being an ass I'm sure it works well for ya. Secondly when most people use "quotes" they actually quote something in my other post the word "buying" is nowhere to be found and your extensive background since boomtime jan. 2014 makes you so much better then me, my lowly misguided newb self I appreciate your grizzled beaten response as your being taken for thousands by the likes of BFL etc has made you into the mentor and shining beacon you are to this community today.

You don't stockpile miners, out of your own pocket, hoping someone will pay for them one day?   ;)
this is a traditional group buy for those who can't order 10 units direct from AM.  I'm not a reseller of these for profit.  I simply facilitate a group buy.

I know man. You do great work and I appreciate it!
Thanks!!
I've got a couple extra USB interfaces, PM me if anyone is looking for one

Please forgive the noob questions bu the answers may help someone else decide to pull the trigger.

How difficult is setting one of these up?

What purpose does the Block Eruptor serve?

The Prisma can not stand-alone like the Antminer S3?

Sounds like it will run cgminer on a RaspPi but takes some set-up?

Will Minera support the Prisma?

The Prisma can not stand-alone like the Antminer S3?  -----correct it does not have a built in controller

Sounds like it will run cgminer on a RaspPi but takes some set-up? ---- correct it needs an adapter wire which is provided and the rasp pi needs an sd with the correct image on it.

Will Minera support the Prisma?

Thanks Philipma1957.

My next question I guess is hard to answer since these aren't in the wild yet but what RaspPi image will work best with these?

A limited number of Prisma's have gone out already, so they are out there.
They have a USB interface and you can run cgminer on a device of your choice, there are many choices.

I used RASPBIAN (Debian Wheezy) and then compiled cgminer with --enable-blockerupter.  The default speed is --bet-clk 23 (which will run the prisma at 240 Mhz).  On a tube, you need to set it to --bet-clk 26.

Sounds simple enough davecoin. Guess I'll have to find out. I'm in for 1.

Hopefully the learning curve isn't as bad as the Gridseeds. My hope is an idiot proof self-starting RaspPi image is available by the time these ship.

At this point, it's pretty difficult to imagine anyone questioning whether it's "safe" to trust Canary or not -- but it still feels that a quick note/fyi is appropriate:

Ordered 3 Prisma (Prismas? Prismi?  Prismaux?  Prismoxen?) and received 2 in the first batch; the third showed up yesterday.  My experience with Canary was excellent -- considering I've never participated in a group buy before (only direct purchases from manufacturers, eg, Bitmain and the like), the process was smooth sailing the entire way.

Everything arrived on-time -- in fact, I had mine in hand before certain other GBs announced they'd received their first "batch."  (No disrespect to any other GB intended -- just pointing out that Canary's "All mail comes here first, before anywhere else" claim seems to be pretty damned accurate.  My current suspicion is that he's secretly like the Brother-in-Law of the Postmaster General or something.  In fact, if you look closely at his user pic, it's *clearly* a photoshop job -- I don't think he's even a bird at all.)    People were still debating in the main Prisma thread "whether or not any Prismas are in the wild yet" at least 2 days after I'd already received mine and placed 'em into service.

And all three sound like enormous "industrial hairdryers" (if such a thing existed) -- so yes, I can confirm they arrived undamaged, with absurdly loud fans functioning per the manufacturer's specs.  What's that?  NO, I SAID THAT THEY ARE FUNCTIONING PER MANUFAC-- oh nevermind. :)

It has been a pleasure doing business with you, Canary; I still might grab a couple more of these from you later on...if and when I'm able to adjust the exhaust setup in my spare room enough to lower the ambient temp a few degrees...anything cooler than the surface of the sun will do for now. :)

But back to my main point -- I highly recommend Mr Yellow Bird of Happiness to anyone out there (especially any GB-newbies like myself...unless I was the only one left, which could easily be the case):  If you're in the market for an Avian-Managed Prismaux Group Buy, this one's your best bet.

[ Noted one more time for clarity:  No disrespect to the other Prisma Group Buy, which AFAICT appears to be handled in an equally professional manner. ]

--- EDIT ---

I was asked to include some setup details, which I'm happy to do:

So, 3x Prismaux...currently supported by:
  • 2x Delta/IBM DPS2000BB Server PSUs (in current-share/load-balance configuration)
    • Not using the breakout boards -- I would have loved to, but they weren't in stock when I set these guys up; but Sidehack makes quality stuff so I'd recommend them to anybody even though I never used 'em.
    • A previous poster earlier in the thread mentioned that he can be grumpy sometimes...I don't know him well enough to dispute that statement (although it's probably true about anybody, myself included, depending on when you happen to catch me), but the fact is he makes quality stuff, right here in the USA, and -- most importantly:  if I could pay $50-60 today and get back all the hours it took me to solder those damned wires to those bastard PSUs a few weeks back ...I'm pretty sure I could just *sleep* for all those extra hours and still find the tradeoff well worth it.  So definitely worth considering, IMO.
  • BeagleBone Black (the development board, not the Porn Star -- and if there isn't a porn star by that name, I will *happily* eat a Prisma.  Some things in life are just guaranteed.
    • Running Debian 7.7 (image downloaded from the elinux.org site)
    • cgminer version $whateverCurrentVersionIs with --enable-blockerupter
  • Rosewill USB 2.0 Powered hub, take your pick they all seem to work great.
  • Um, afaik that's it...?
  • oops, almost forgot: A lovely heaping handful of Klondike_Bar's 16AWG PCI-E cables (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461).  Nice and friendly and conductive...all the things you look for in a bundle of wires... Made in Canada, which is almost the same thing as "Made in the USA" ... just much more polite. :)

Anyway I hope that helps...someone...somewhere.

Is there anyway to replace the fans with a quieter one?  Do you happen to know the CFM of the fan used?

Is there anyway to replace the fans with a quieter one?  Do you happen to know the CFM of the fan used?

In reply to your first question, my answer would be "Sure, but you'd better make sure it's a damned good one."  I don't know the CFM/Static Pressure info on these (I think the labels were removed -- kind of like filing the serial number off a handgun, lol) but I think if you go to Dogie's review of the ASICMiner Tubes, he has some info on the fan THEY use -- and I bet it's similar.

In that same Tube thread -- or it might be the main, ASICMiner/Friedcat announcement thread -- look for a post by phillipma1957.  He went into great detail discussing some mods he'd made to the tube which worked well (and should work here, AFAIK).  IIRC, he had quite a bit of luck replacing the super mega hyper loud one with a pair of slightly less super mega hyper loud fans.  So that's an option, I suppose.

Personally, I found the noise *really* annoying not due to the volume but the *pitch* of the fans.  They just have a loud, high-pitched ... well, literally the exact same sound as a hair dryer (there's a reason people keep using that comparison).  Unlike the other fans which just all kind of fade into the background as a low-pitched "hum" they are absurdly loud and cut through walls and brain-tissue alike.  lol   I think the primary issue (Someone knowledgeable please correct me if I'm wrong) is that even though they're 3-pin fans, they're being run flat-out (100%).  Seemingly no "throttling" like you have with Bitmain fans, for example.  And almost any fan if you run it at 100% is going to be obnoxious.

I'm not sure if that's a mistake, or a design flaw, or if ASICMiner was just lazy...or if they did careful math and concluded that they needed exactly 100% of the fan 100% of the time to cool the chips (although that last one seems a bit unlikely).  Others have hooked up fan controllers (in between the prisma and the fan).  And if you felt like "60% of the fan was sufficient" (and you thought that was going to be the case 24/7) you could always just put a resistor in-line with the ... um... again, let me defer to other websites and/or people who can tell you exactly what kind of resistor and between which wires you want to put it.  But the point is, you can *usually* slow fans down...either crudely (with the resistor method, though that might not work with PWM fans) or with a fan controller, or ideally by doing *something* with the blue wire to throttle the fans appropriately.

Oops.  Sorry, I'm a bit longwinded -- now that I re-read your questions, apparently the normal human reply would have been:

1. Yes.
2. No, I don't know the CFM off-hand, but see Dogie's thread because it's not JUST CFM, but also static pressure you'll want to match.

PS, I should point out that I have an exhaust duct sucking hot air from the back of my shelf/rack/whatever and blowing some/most of it out the window.  (Doing my part to destroy the planet...because I'm a complete dick, I guess, but that's beside the point.)  Anyway, I had the Prismas sitting on a different shelf when i was first messing with them -- and the noise was terrible, I could hear it on the other side of my apartment, with two closed doors in-between!   However, yesterday I finally made some room on the rack/shelf/thingy and moved all three Prismaux in there...and since it's partially enclosed (to funnel the hot air out the back vent/duct) the noise just magically vanished overnight.

Okay, it didn't *vanish* but I can sit here in the living room without clawing at my face and begging to die like previous days.  So if you can enclose/muffle the units just a little bit, that helps a *lot*.  I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you have a duct or fan evacuating that heat, of course--otherwise you'd be creating your own little Bitcoin Greenhouse, which IIRC is *not* a Best Practice if you want things to function longer than a few days. :)

Hope that helps and if you try something new, be sure to share with the group...  I can still just *barely* hear those obnoxious fans (nothing like it was before, but the AC kicked off just now so I can barely make them out) and the more solutions the better, because I think more than a few people are going to be having to choose between "Mining" or "Divorce" if they can't get these bastards to run a bit quieter.

You can use the BE Controller or a raspberry pi. You'll need the usb adapter supplied by Asicminer to connect the rpi to the miner.  You can follow this guide (but use cgminer instead of bfgminer):

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735728.msg8549984#msg8549984

use cgminer --bet-clk 23 for Prisma and --bet-clk 26 for Tube.

I'm an idiot. I was thinking a USB adapter was some sort of brand specific USB hub. GG.

I have a bunch of RaspPis laying around from selling off my old scrypt stuff so I'll convert one to run the Prisma.

While were on the topic though... How much you asking for a BE controller?

Thanks Philipma1957.

My next question I guess is hard to answer since these aren't in the wild yet but what RaspPi image will work best with these?

I used RASPBIAN (Debian Wheezy) and then compiled cgminer with --enable-blockerupter.  The default speed is --bet-clk 23 (which will run the prisma at 240 Mhz).  On a tube, you need to set it to --bet-clk 26.

I will be putting out a packaged version of cgminer 4.7.0 for Rasbian as soon as we can get the bugs in the build system ironed out.  I do not know if I will be able to back port to wheezy or if they will only be early builds for Jessie.  I have a working package for Jessie now on Rasbian but want the official numbering fixes done before I let it into the wild.

Just a heads up on the rpi with these.  The rpi had to be rebooted about every 6 hours as the hashrate falls.  Ended up moving all the miners to a PC and they have been running for days now without a reboot.  Have had similar issues with other miners on the pi.

Also,  these miners should be ready to go once you have cgminer install on a computer?   No additional interface components required?

Hi All,

First Thank You Canary for doing the group buy!

Has anyone noticed that running these on the USB Controller is highly unstable?

I have two of my three units so far and both are highly unstable.  I can not get them to keep up at anywhere near 1.4Ths.  I can get them to run, but they drift all over the place from 600Ghs to an occasional burst at 1.5Ths.

I have tried running them on the RPi and the CubieTruck.  I have used the stock 4.7.0 CGminer, Fixed Debian Build of 4.7.0-1 CGminer, and the BlockErupter 4.6.1 build of CGminer from GitHub.  None have fixed or even made improvements.  I have tried both the standard (no --bet-clk option) and --bet-clk=23 timing.

One thing I have noticed is that there is a lot of extended output in the BlockErupter Controller, that shows the chip status.  Can we get that status from CGminer somehow?

Try pointing them at a pool port set for difficulty 2048 (S4).
I seen issues when when it comes to pool port set to vardif - units would hash for 1-1.25 hours then stop hashing - when this happen the difficulty would drop below 500 then bottom out and stop hashing till BE Controller was rebooted; had a similar experience on the RPi except it managed to hash for about 2.5hrs before dropping out.  Since I changed to pool port set to 2048 it has been going non-stop for over 21.5 hrs.

I currently have 2 prisma using CG Minera Rpi image - with AM CGminer fork - running great.  When I used the BE Controller the I could only have 7 of the 8 hashboards going - if I tried all 8 - one of the boards didn't work 85% of the time and had chips on 1 board go into PwrDn state (around 13 on both physical & logical blade).

Screenshots below are pool report hashrate, minera, & CGMiner output.  The drop in hash around 5pm seems to be pool or internet related as my 10 S3s also experienced a drop at the same time.

Atm 1/10 are in.

I am getting 2 Prismas + 1 Tube from Canary tomorrow (Monday).  If anyone is interested, I can send them out within 24 hours for 1.42 BTC for each Prisma and 0.81142857 BTC for the Tube (what I paid for them).  I will even pay for UPS ground myself (any other shipping is more expensive that it is worth).  I am not sure what controller shipped with them, but I believe it is the USB adapter.  I also have an imaged Pi from CG's group buy and the stand alone controller if people are interested in those.  I will sell those at cost as well.

If anyone wants equipment to ship tomorrow (with free shipping) and not have to wait, let me know.  Also, please make sure any payment request PMs are coming from me and not a similar looking name!

I can't pay what you're asking for the tube, but if you don't get your asking price I have a slot for one more.

Same here.

I have a prisma with 4 bad boards.  The most it has ever hashed is ~300 gh/s and that is for about 30 min.  The prisma is sitting in a room collecting dust since it arrived.

I also have 4 bad boards on my unit. Please let me know how we can take advantage of this service - should we do this individually, or is there going to be a way to aggregate this since you were the original purchaser. Thanks!

I sent a message to phasebird for clarification, waiting for him to respond...  I think the best way for you to take advantage of this is to follow his direct instructions...  I can not handle several of their points wrt to replacement boards and actual refund sending.  They haven't sent me any btc for refunds and supposedly some boards were shipped but a limited number, it won't be enough.

Any update from phasebird with regard to your group-buy?  Should we just send our defective prisma to Hong Kong at the address with this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735728.msg9716544#msg9716544

Sorry this is a hot mess Canary. Hopefully some good news comes soon about possibly organizing a return compensation of some sort.

I've had no response from phasebird.
However, I have received 8 Prisma boards for replacements, which is not enough for all of you inquiring.  I think it makes sense to replace 8 boards and you can submit your emails for compensation via email as instructed.
So basically instead of mailing the boards to HK, you'd ship to me but follow the rest of the instructions for compensation.
Which brings us to the 8 boards, I'm gonna piss off already upset group buyers if I just replace 4 boards to 2 people.  So I'm open to your input on how to distribute them fairly.
You guys tell me how to decide who gets them...
Based on btc ledger order?  Or other method?  If no consensus is reached, I'll default to the btc ledger order...
Let me know...

I would say btc ledger order for people who need new boards.  That is the only fair way to do it.  Maybe give people 2-4 days to submit a claim for the board(s).  Whoever send payment first during the group-buy gets the boards.  That way we know soon who will get the boards in the USA and who needs to ship them to Hong Kong.

Do you know that the boards that you have are good?

I need 4 boards - 2 are completely dead and 2 are extremely fickle with erratic hashing from 0 - 500 gh/s for about 45min before completely shutting down.  I'm pretty far down the list but such is life...

My vote is for first come first serve on this thread.  LOL.  I need 2 (possibly 3 I'll have to re-test 1) boards.

I have not tested them myself, based on phasebird's post, I think they were tested by AM before shipping

Thanks for remembering me, but I already shipped my board to HK last week. I might need your help to confirm the delivery date if I apply for compensation with AM, haven't looked into that yet. So you can assign that replacement board to someone else.
