Title: Feathercoin 0.8.7.0 Released - The NeoScrypt Update - Hardfork block 432,000

Feathercoin 0.8.7.0 released
The NeoScrypt Update

It has been a long time in the works but we have finally got NeoScrypt and a GPU miner so we can now release the Feathercoin 0.8.7.0 client with NeoScrypt set to replace Scrypt on block 432,000, this should happen on the 26th October 2014. There is a Twitter countdown to the hard fork available here (https://twitter.com/FTC_countdown).

NeoScrypt uses stronger components than the Scrypt we are familiar with. A key element of Scrypt is Salsa which adds memory complexity, the problem is that the version of Salsa in Scrypt is weak and has been broken by differential analysis which is why we see cheap and powerful ASICs. NeoScrypt uses a blend of Salsa and its successor Chacha set to a higher level of strength. In theory these two should not be broken for at least a decade, this gives better protection than simply adding hashing functions.

However the goal is not simply to avoid ASICs forever as this may not be possible though ideally we want to stay in reach of as many people as possible without the need for expensive mining equipment. As the majority of people buying Scrypt ASICs are not doing so to mine Feathercoin and the fact that some very large ASIC suppliers will be releasing products soon it seems sensible to move algorithm now before we face the challenges that hit many SHA-256 alts when the SHA-256 ASICs hit. We are moving to a new tier of hashing where Feathercoin can be the leading coin.

Please be aware that after the update your Scrypt mining setup will no longer work. You will need to use the new GPU miner that we have been developing for several months now. Not only do miners need to upgrade their software but pools do as well.

Will the CPU and GPU Miner for Neoscrypt mine on the same Level or is GPU the only way to go?

GPU is better than CPU, but the two are much closer than Scrypt, for example at the moment my HD7800 gives me about 30Khash, whilst my CPU gives me 8k hash, but the GPU miner will improve in the coming months as it is not optimised yet.

Neoscrypt is running on PXC now so you can see for yourself by mining that

Bitcoin was my first but  FTC was my second. Lost a bit of money on them sadly so now I've got no choice but to hodl and hope for the future.

I am glad I grabbed some coins at 0.00008 it is to risky for me trying to buy lower just 10 days before fork.

This is also good opportunity to look at the all time chart and study the previous development.
There was lot of insane pumps on FTC, but now for the first time in history there are big and fundamental news that
might support the growth of value.

For me personaly is also important that I will be able to set my GPUs for mining again.

For those interested I've just set up an FTC Twitter bot to countdown the switch to Neoscrypt.
It will tweet once a day from 7 days out, then 12 hours, 6 hours, 3 hours 1 hour, 30 minutes , 10 minutes and then the last 5 blocks. (hopefully)

Those wishing to follow the tweets here is the link to it

Will let you know when its time to fire up those GPUs again

What is power consumption like using gpus? High like scrypt, low like x11, or somewhere in between?

At the moment pretty low.
Can't give you exact values as I can't measure my power consumption, but aiming at a 65C GPU running temp my fans only run at around 30% to 35%, whilst that would give me about 80% fan run speed with Scrypt.
As the GPU is more optimised and the hash level increases I'm guessing power consumption will go up a bit, but it will still be better than Scrypt

For me its 550W for 3x R9 280x at 100kh/s each. so its little higher than x11 but way lower than scrypt.

20,000 members means nothing if more than half of those accounts are nothing but spam accounts.

You should do your research and ask the admin of the forum how many of those accounts have not been used in the past 3, 6, and 12 months.

Gee Smoothie is that the best complaint you can come up with today.
A number of the FTC community decided to put FTC into a pot for the first non spammer that joined once the member count went over 20,000.

But rather than congratulate them for their generosity and the community spirit they are fostering at FTC you fuss on whether the member count is accurate or not.

No mater, hardfork is in just over 6 days time (give or take a few hours), we will then be free from this generation of ASICS, and hopefully from them for a while, and FTC will be returned to the smaller miners, not locked into large data-centres.

If you would like to follow the countdown to NeoScrypt you can follow it with my twitter bot

https://twitter.com/FTC_countdown (https://twitter.com/FTC_countdown)

No need for LTC to thank FTC for us helping to secure your blockchain by passing over the ASICS mining FTC back to LTC and other Scrypt coins.
If LTC ever decides to move forward and away from Scrypt I'm sure FTC will be more than happy to help, and we will do it without all this pettiness I see from LTC.

Have a nice day.  :)

Nope it isn't my biggest problem with FTC.

Please consider that FTC has changed the protocol of Feathercoin too many times and took waaay too long to change the important parts about its mining algorithm.

In the first few months of FTC's launch the alert system was still linked to Litecoin's network. Bushstar basically copy and pasted the Litecoin source and did not make any meaningful changes to the code.

So no it isn't my biggest complaint. Although those 20,000 user stats are not true as most of those users are likely not active users and just spam accounts.

I'm not saying that the people backing FTC are bad people. What I am saying is that their developments are too few too late. The market has moved on from FTC and its "developments".

Let me be clear and say that this "pettiness" is from me purely and not from LTC.

Why should anyone thank the Feathercoin community for "passing over" the asics mining FTC back to LTC?

Remember now, if Feathercoin did not change its mining algorithm from scrypt it would either get killed and 51% attacked or FTC would be forced to merge mine with LTC as doge has.

So no there is no thanks there lol. Please try harder to make your points while grasping at straws.  ;D ;D ;D

In Australia we have a bird called a galah, you can teach it to say fairly complicated phrases, which they will then repeat over and over again, a bit like the same complaints that came from the LTC camp.
I'm sure we can arrange to have a few trained up to repeat the same tired complaints which once they have been taught will never change what they say, again a bit like some people from the LTC camp
For the record I do know the early history of FTC.
I didn't play an active roll in FTC until fairly recently but was mining FTC within a month of it launching, so heard many of the complaints back then that I'll I'm still hearing now.
Those complaints back then didn't see me want to swap to LTC and I still don't now.

I see that today the ASIc mining power on FTC is 140 GH/s, true well below what LTC has, but I wonder how much it would cost someone to find 141GH/s to 51% attach it, would it be worth it really to do so?

But Conqueror is correct, thanks Smoothie for keeping this thread at the top, and I apologise to the bulk of the LTC supporters, as Smoothie has admitted that the pettiness is solely his and has nothing to do with LTC.

Nope, to make development of ASICS viable for Neoscrypt then  FTC have to cost 5USD or something like that. Now we are at 4 cents.

Actulay, this is good news for me as I have more time to set up my rig.
Let me talk completely raw. I was not mining with my GPU's like half year.
Guess why? Yes, low profitability (thanks ASICS!)

I know ASICS are evolution, but only rich can really catch up with this game.
For normal middle class user is almost impossible to reach hardware break even.
In fact what he gets is money loss and nice piece of hardware with no other use than
being an exhibit in the museum one day.
So the network control is focused in rich guys ASIC farms and monster pools.

I guess thats not exactly what Satoshi's plan was. Mining with CPU/GPU for fun and small profit
seems much better idea to me. In fact when you stop your hardware is still usefull for other things.
But most importantly it is possible to have more decentralized network with this solution.

I guess there is more people like me, with their GPUs not mining anymore.
Well folks, remove the dust and plug them in again.
Neoscrypt is here :)

How many hours before fork? 14-16 hours, more or less?  :P

No we had a huge spike in difficulty on FTC as a lot of ASICs tried to squeeze their last few FTC out before the change, its probably still about 48 hours away, give or take a few hours.
I've created a twitter bot that is counting it down, which tweets once a day, but will tweak at about 12 hours, then 6 hours, 3 hour, 1 hour and 10 mins and the last 5 blocks

So if you want to know exactly when the fork is happening follow my twitter bot

500 left? The hardfork block is 432,000, not 430,000...  ;)

In crypto that is all anyone is worried about lolol... sadly.

Im sure anything at anytime for any reason will change the price in one direction or the other.

how will the transition work? I mean are there already people waiting for with their GPUs mining FTC Neo or do will Multipools handle this?
The fork has a lot of high danger as it seems.

What? - No there is not a high danger at all. Many people waiting with their gpus, but I havent seen a multipool which accepts neoscrypt miners right now. Even tho if someone manages to pull off over 50% of the total hashingpower, we still got ACP to protect the chain.

Yes we have a list of pools that are ready for Neoscrypt.
They are listed on the Feathercoin forum https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/7926-neoscrypt-mining-pools/ (https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/7926-neoscrypt-mining-pools/)
I'm sure more will be added to this list shortly too.

I have created a twitter countdown bot, so those with GPUs can get them all ready to go and watch twitter so when the hardfork is about to arrive they can turn on their GPU rigs.

If you haven't already I suggest you subscribe to my twitter bot so you can be ready with your GPUS.

Just tried the GPU miner 3.7.7b on W7Pro machine with catalyst 14.9

Cgminer returns the error:

Any help?

catalyst 14.9 has issues, try downgrading to 13.12.

If that does not work please post your problems in the support section on the FTC forum.

First I tried it on my actual PC, which has Catalyst 12.1, tried it on another mining PC with 13.x,  don't remember exact version, may be 13.1, then on 1 of my mining PCs I reinstalled catalyst to newest version and had this error on all 3 of them. It may be, that it can run only on 1-2 versions of catalyst, but I will just wait for more stable version, where this problem will be resolved, or stick with X11.
On that forum they refer to that as the possible driver issue.

[Edit]
I red in one article, that lowering the intensity may work, so I set -I 12 and the cgminer started hashing, but only thing it produces are HW errors, not the accepted shares.
that's on catalyst 14.9.
[Edit 2]
with -I 12, my non-mining PC with catalyst 12.1 is hashing, 7870 @ 24khash, but shares are accepted only occasionally.

Did you even read the white paper man? Neoscrypt is real.. They basically took what was scrypt and updated it with new hashing functions. It actually hashes faster than normal scrypt which will help with block propagation latency, lower orphans etc.

Feathercoin is now on NeoScrypt, 64 blocks so far. All went as well as expected. If you have not updated then please do so now.

If you are having trouble mining you could try one of the following pools below that is now on the new algorithm.

Nut² Pools run by an IT Professional and long time Feathercoin community member

Nut² Pools (https://ftc.nut2pools.com/)

Coinotron, well known. Has been the pool for many for years.

Looking at WemineFTC's pool stats, they haven't found a block since block 431955. That was 227 blocks ago.  It looks like they haven't switched off of scrypt, even though they claimed they were ready "ages ago".

true. They got about 400 workers and ~ 900mh/s working on scrypt. They didnt switch.

CGMiner for Nvidia cards? Really? I'm running Xubuntu, so do you have any idea how to compile from source code or where to download a linux compiled version? I'm currently mining with ccMiner.

I've tried this howto

but I get this error after ./autogen.sh

Any ideas?

don't forget the neoscrypt cgminer cannot work under catalyst 14.x drivers (whose are best for X11), so in order to produce shares, you have to downgrade.

[Edit]
And I downgraded to 13.1 on my PC with Tahiti (Sapphire R9 280X) and it is still producing only HW errors, so downgrading is not the ultimate solution.
I managed only the Pitcairn to do some work on older catalyst.

I assume you mean 13.12? It's the gold standard of mining drivers. I've seen this behavior while using mismatched driver versions (eg mining 14.6 Open CL libraries while still running 13.12)

I assume you mean 13.12? It's the gold standard of mining drivers. I've seen this behavior while using mismatched driver versions (eg mining 14.6 Open CL libraries while still running 13.12)

Actually there may be this mismatch, as I uninstalled 14.9 with catalyst install manager, then manually deleted drivers from cards, restarted and installed the 13.1, but uninstalls tend to leave files.
But it doesn't bother me anymore anyway, as big farms are now active and on the pool I`m on are fellas with 1+Mhash on neo, top hasher has over 10 Mhash and pool didn't find block for one hour, so even they switched away from asics, it still same big guys story, just it cost much more in electric to run miners.

[Edit]
I just did the calculation, and after 6 hours on new neo-scrypt, so many farms joined, so mine mining reward is about 0.25 usd a day on 0.8 usd a day in el. costs.

how is it the gpu miner never works for me, always HW errors even at stock clocks or low -I settings.....

cgminer.exe --neoscrypt -I 14 --worksize 48 -g 1 -o stratum+tcp://stratum.ftc.theblocksfactory.com:3333 -u TheMiner.x -p 1

this works great for me

so now it works even thou i was useing that same line...... strange. i cant seem to create a new binfile thou without hw errors, iam guessing its because iam useing 14.9 beta drivers?

I've tried 1.3.5 and 1.3.7 across multiple 14.xx drivers, Windows and Linux, and always get HW errors. 13.12 works fine and dandy on all of them. Compiled from source most of the time, but did use some windows binaries to double check.

Seems like the issue is 14.xx driver compatability.

r9 280x - Windows 7.1: 76kh
r9 270x - Windows 7.1: 41kh

My 660ti reports only ~80% "power consumption" at OC so it runs pretty cool and is proportionate in hash to the other cards (the way it looks like it should be anyhow).  i.e. in x11 it would read like ~105%.

I'm about to do this with some other binaries too, but how do I specify to load them manually? It seems relatively simple but I don't see a switch in cgminer and doesn't seem to be any documentation on it? Strange.

Just curious, where can I find a market for vendors that accept Feathercoin?  I'm not looking to exchange for bitcoin, litecoin, etc, just for vendor selling items to accept them.  I have some that I would like to spend on something productive.

Hard to say for sure. I don't have a device similar to Kill-a-watt to measure the pull from the wall. The Nvidia GPU monitor reports about 25% less "power consumption" depending on how I OC, but I have no idea what could possibly be measuring.  My guess would be core voltage.

My core temps are much less (like 10C average for me), however radiant heat seems to be the same.

"cat.13.12 pregen. *.bins ----> win7 x64 cat.14.9.1"-hook
it seems that works fine for  me:

7970 @1080/1500                  ---> hashes ~99kh/s
290(hynix) @1050/1375          ---> hashes ~122kh/s
290x/290(elpida) @1050/1375  ---> hashes ~115kh/s

1375---->1500MHz MemOC are useless for 290/290x - speed is the same as @1375MHz

My 7950 was getting 64 Kh/s @ 1150/1500, workload 48 and intensity 14.  Then I got a few hardware errors and dropped intensity to 13.  Hashrate bounced up to 77 Kh/s!  Great!  Oh, CGMiner 3.7.5.

+19 Kh/s from the cpuminer and I'm feeling ok.

Anyhoo..

My 280x/hynix is pulling 128 khash with cgminer 3.3.7b and the following settings :
gpu/mem - 1120/1500, win7 x64 cat 14.9 w/ sdk, -I 13, -w 32, -g 2

Screenie shows the 280x and 7870 at stock, same settings except -g 1 was used.

What kind of hash is everyone pulling? Here's some of my baseline results so far on standard +~10% OC

13.12 catalyst drivers:
r9 280x - Ubuntu 14.04: 53kh
r9 280x - Windows 7.1: 48kh
r9 270x - Windows 7.1: ~28kh

nvidia 240 drivers:
gf 660ti - Windows 7.1: 22kh

Edit: Lower the worksize, it seems to help a large amount, 16-32 seems to be right
r9 280x - Ubuntu 14.04: 78kh
r9 280x - Windows 7.1: 76kh
r9 270x - Windows 7.1: 41kh
gf 660ti - Windows 7.1: 26kh worksize 16 can't go lower =[

My 660ti reports only ~80% "power consumption" at OC so it runs pretty cool and is proportionate in hash to the other cards (the way it looks like it should be anyhow).  i.e. in x11 it would read like ~105%.

Using BAMT version 1.6.0 and installing the latest version of neo-gpuminer (3.7.7c), I am getting around 54.4 kh per card on a rig with 5x R9 270x's, for a total of 274kh on average. Power draw for the whole rig as configured is 440 watts from the wall, measured via kill-a-watt.

My relevant configuration settings are as follows:

intensity 13
worksize 32
gpu-engine 1025
gpu-memclock 1250
gpu-threads 2

I found that dropping the intensity down from 14 to 13 seemed to give me the best speeds with the above settings. I also found that pushing the gpu and memory clocks higher did not seem to give much more in the way of increased hashrate, but it did increase the power draw. This seems inline with my experiences when I ran these rigs with scrypt mining.

I am still playing around and hope to eek out a few more khash without upping the power draw.

I also been playing with some rigs with 3x R9 280's, but while the total khash per rig is close (240 khash) my power draw from the wall is 550 watts. I have only managed to get around 80 khash per card with these, so unless I can do better I will turn them off as the breakeven is too close right now.

I like to think of things in how much I am earning after costs, thus I am getting roughly .62 kh per watt with the 270's and only about .44 kh per watt with the 280's. As I said, with current rates the 270's are profitable for me (no free electricity) but the 280's are costing money to run at their current output.

Looking for any other helpful settings to change this around, as it would be nice to put some of the cards I have laying around back into profitable use...

Check the OP. :P

@all

I was wrong when I said that -g 2 was used to achieve 121 khash. It was actually -g 1.

edit

And only 1 HW that likely happened while oc'd to 1120. I'm now at stock 1020 on the core.

13.12 drivers (used 13.12 to generate the bin as well): 107kh/s on 7950 @ 1000/1250 with some kernel edits.
IIRC, my 280X on 14.9 (used 14.9 to generate bin, too) did somewhere around 160kh/s @ 1140/1500.

Oops, was wrong about the 280X. On 14.9, I have a 290X and a 280X, 290X does 200kh/s at stock clocks, 280X does around 175kh/s.

Download my CL file, delete your bins, and replace the existing CL file - it will work, as that's all I've changed.

I have tried out some new configurations using your new .cl file and can confirm it works with 14.9 drivers.

Thanks for your work on this!

Wouldn't work for me with 14.7 so upgrading to 14.9 now.

Nope, nothing but HW errors, must be something else wrong.  win7-64, 8mb, HD7970s, amd 14.9,
Code:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
del *.bin
cgminer.exe --neoscrypt -o stratum+tcp://ftceu.nut2pools.com:5567 -u USERNAME.1 -p PASSWORD -I 13 -w 64 -g 1 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1050

any ideas?

LOL!  Nevermind.  I found it.  I copied your .cl file to the wrong folder.

I can confirm that this .cl file works with 14.9, too.

Kudos, dude!

p.s. it also works with 14.6 and 14.7
HD7970 at 1050/1500 avg. 117.5
280x at 1050/1500 avg. 115

Okay!  Thanks Wolf0, we are now cooking with gas, smokin' etc etc.  7950 is getting a solid 125-130 with no rejects, work units  115/m or so.  Can't tell me that a little brute force doesn't help, we're running at 1200/1500.  Oh, worksize 48 and 1 thread, I-12.  And a wups!  Guess 1200 was pushing it, getting 123 at 1150, I'll live.

Has anyone had any luck with getting 6000 series cards working?  My 6850 still craps out.

It's also faster, as I had to use better code for several things in order to get it to work.

Yeah, I'd say quite a bit faster. Just replaced the CL file on one of my R9 280x rigs with your file. Now the R9 280x's at I 15, W 32, G 2, 1100 core and 1500 memory are putting out around 125 khash each.

This is quite the improvement over the ~ 75 khash I was getting before. I will leave the run overnight to check for stability, but so far quite the improvement.

Update: With I 13, W 48 getting 130 kHash on the 280x. I tried W 128 but I was still around the same 125-130 kh ballpark, with the exception I would crash the driver occasionally. With the worksize of 48 and 2 threads seems to be the sweet spot for me so far. My cards are only 3 GB of memory, so was wondering if the higher speeds are with cards with 4 or more gig of memory?

Got just over 200kh/s on my 7950, over 90kh/s for 270X, 280X does 220kh/s, and 290X about 245kh/s. Here's a (nsfw) screenshot with the miner, settings, clocks, and card types: https://ottrbutt.com/miner/neoscryptwolf-11022014.png

Has anyone been able to replicate your results ?

Number6 and Atomicat's speeds are the same as what I'm seeing with 3.7.7b.

And whats with the nsfw ? It seems like you're trying to lure people to your site by any means possible.

I think using AMD 14.6 or 14.7, instead of 14.9, substantially helps hashrate.

SGMiner is now out! Buggy, but better than the current GPU miner which is based off shit-tier CGMiner - no Win bins for now, a guy I know did it, not me: https://github.com/sgminer-dev/sgminer -- IT IS THE DEVELOP BRANCH.

Cool! Could you upload a compiled version for windows please? :)

Okay, done. I'm pretty sure it works, but haven't tested on a Windows installation. This is a zip of my kernel, slighly modified for SGMiner, as well as all the other kernels included on the github's develop branch, and a Win64 binary. Static compile, no DLLs, just like my standard SGMiner builds on Litecointalk. Also GPG signed, like my standard builds. Someone please test for me and ensure it works.

https://ottrbutt.com/sgminer/neoscrypt/sgminer5-neoscrypt-11-02-2014.zip
And of course, GPG sigs for those that check them (you should be): https://ottrbutt.com/sgminer/neoscrypt/sgminer5-neoscrypt-11-02-2014.zip.sig

It works great, same speeds though. Nice work, thanks again.

Noo lol.. leave it on so we can see how noob friendly it is. I'm running artifact free thus far.. :)

No luck with -g 2 but, I did manage to gain another 10 khash by upping the worksize to 48 and by copying the 14.7-rc3 openCL files to the 3.7.7b folder (while still running 14.9).

That's a good start - I don't think you need to set TC, but you can. You need to set a pool, intensity, user/pass for pool, and GPU threads, I think.

EDIT: And worksize.

I know how to solo/pool mine. lol I posted that command line hoping someone would confirm that my flags were set properly. eg. the pool info was purposely left out

Has solo mining been disabled ?

Are there any hidden fees/ donations ?

cgminer will randomly set the thread concurrency on almost every startup. eg. it chooses 4096 or 8192 or 16384.

I will soon know if the HW error was caused by the 4096 bin in use at the time. Currently running a 16384 bin..

That's not the biggest red flag, that's a small one - the HUGE red flag is 5 posts.

EDIT: By the way, I'm not computer-stupid and afraid of clicking links - it's named bin.zip. A reasonable assumption is that it's Windows binaries. Add that to the 5 posts, and the circumstantial clue of the .ru site, and I think most people would come to the conclusion you're one of those guys trying to spread malware like that. You may not be, but it did look like that.

There is no malware so lets stop talking about it.
Bigger concern is what is updated, as there are no improvements in hash?

I compile statically. I know Windows users, I used to be one. Having to bring DLLs with if you want to move the executable, as well as have them in the same folder, is a pain in the ass. And then people don't even strip the debugging info, so the binaries are fucking huge...
I `ve noticed an archive with unstripped *.exe  from unsigned author in the last two days (from ru-net I think). lol.

This is pretty much what I am getting as well, except my settings are slightly different. Also no matter how many times I try to regenerate a new bin file, my install will always pick 8192 for thread concurrency.

Code:
280x -i 13  -w 48  -g 2   GPU clocks 1025/1500

http://img.techpowerup.org/141104/neoscript.jpg

I also have another box, basically identical build to the above (3x 280x cards) that prefers -g 1 instead of the -g 2 shown above, with all the other settings and clocks set the same.

No TC setting.  But of course the .bin file shows that it is using 8192.  I keep all my old AMD bundles, so going to 14.6 was easy.  Big file though 300+MB.

New cgminer 3.7.7b settings 4 U.

280x @stock 1020/1500 Hynix - 138-143 khash - catalyst 14.9 w/ 14.7-rc3 openCL files copied to cgminer's folder

-g 3, -w 64, -i 14  ..  HW and artifact free for 20 minutes now ! ;D

cgminer will randomly set the thread concurrency on almost every startup. eg. it chooses 4096 or 8192 or 16384.

I will soon know if the HW error was caused by the 4096 bin in use at the time. Currently running a 16384 bin..

36 hours later I'm averaging 139 khash with only 4 HW errors. :)

What make/model cpu, mobo and ram are you running ?

My rig: Phenom II x6, Asus SB 990fx, GSkill 9-9-9-24 2T

I just bumped it up to 4 threads and gained 2 kash. WOOT ! ;D

I know.

I'm wondering if the hardware configs, namely the system ram and its timings, could be affecting performance.

i highly doubt memory timeing could affect cpu preformance. best way to find out thou is to make changes and run the miner and see if it has any affect on hash rates.

Ohh.. I see..  I must change the settings AND run the miner. And here I thought that the bubble screensaver meant that it was working. ::)

Seriously now, I have made no mention regarding the cpu's performance. Are we reading the same posts ? lolz

My rig: Phenom II x6, Asus SB 990fx, GSkill 9-9-9-24 2T

I just bumped it up to 4 threads and gained 2 kash. WOOT ! ;D

It's a Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H with a Intel Celeron G1630 (2.8 GHz), ADATA 4 GB RAM, not sure timings, on Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 80 GB SDD (Intel).

Most of my rigs are a similar build as they were put together more with cost in mind for BTC, and eventually scrypt, mining last year. I pretty much stuck with Intel boards, so seeing you have AMD based rig might make the difference. When I mined scrypt the few AMD boards I did own seemed to not do as well, so I sold them off early this year when the prices started to drop off. Anyway, presently I have no way to compare between AMD/Intel based MB/CPU setups to see if that make a big difference.

Seeing the FTC profitability falling fast, I would like to get another 20 kHash or more per card out if possible, but seems to be hitting a brick wall with getting much past 140 kh right now.

I calculate my 3 X rig puts out a consistent 138 kh x 3 = 414 kh total. Power draw at the wall is around 540 watts, bringing me to roughly 0.76 kh/watt efficiency. I pay $0.11 per killawatt hour for power, so using today's calculations, I get the following:
Code:
Per Est. Rewards Pool fee Rev. BTC Rev. $ Costs Profit
Hour 2.42729 0.00000 0.00020 $0.09 $0.06 $0.03
Day 58.25485 0.00000 0.00472 $2.12 $1.45 $0.67
Week 407.78395 0.00000 0.03303 $14.86 $10.16 $4.70
Month 1,747.64550 0.00000 0.14156 $63.70 $43.56 $20.14
Year 21,263.02025 0.00000 1.72230 $775.04 $529.98 $245.06

So while still slightly profitable, it would be nice to crank up the hashrate a bit more and stay in the black awhile longer. :)

you should be getting higher then that, my crappy elpidha cards to 144-150khs. try installing 14.7 rc 3 drivers instead of just using the files and fiddle the clocks alittle. i run my asus 280x's at 1135-1800, mainly because they can go that high. but that only really gains me about 12 khs. iam getting about 172 stable but downclocked i get about 160'ish.

Tbh, I'm finding it quite peculiar that my 140 khash noob's config is the best we have for 3.7.7b. And how the only alternative is Wolf0's blacklisted site with it's nsfw .pngs and promises of higher hashrates (on a client that can't or won't solo mine), seeminly designed to lure people to said site.

I know you are all interested in mining (and holding), but let me highlight here that Lizhi made new version of wallet with multisig support.
He would really appreciate people testing this wallet.

I am using Wolf modified neoscrypt140909.Cl file on my installs, so essentially it is the same as 3.7.8. I do have one rig running actually running the 3.7.9 and can confirm that my speeds are essentially the same. This is between rigs of both 7970 and 280x cards, which again are basically the same, but the road block for me seems to kick in at around 140 khash -145 khash. I have tried messing with clocks and settings, but to go from core clocks of ~1040 to 1150 for only a 1-2 khash improvement does not seem to be worth it considering my power draw from the wall goes up as well.

Just when I read people getting 160-175 khash out of similar setups using similar settings makes me think I am overlooking something simple, thus why I am asking for input.

Edit: I should add that all my GPU are using Hynix memory as those appear to be the cards capable of the 175 khash people are reporting.

Yeah 14.9. I just downgraded one rig to 14.7 RC3 on as suggested, and I do see an initial 5 kHash improvement. Right now running about 150-151 khash with 1040/1500 -w 48 -I 13 -g 1. Seems raising the core clock for me does nothing more and in some cases it even reduced the khash a bit. I am still fiddling with different settings, so holding out hope for a bit more....

I have four rigs, one with 14.6rc, 14.7rc, and the other 2 with 14.7rc3.  By far, the 14.6rc leads in hashrate with hd7970s over hd7970s in the 14.7rc and the 14.7rc3 with 280xs.
1000/1500 -w 48 -I 13 -g2.

I've been making SGMiner releases long before SG5 was a thought in anyone's mind. People trust me, especially because I sign shit with the same GPG key I use for bitcoin OTC. If you don't - fine. But until you have actual evidence of malware - hint: you will find none - quit with the bullshit.

If you cannot handle my simple questions and findings, then maybe you shouldn't be allowing others to examine or make use of your work.

You may know it is safe but the general public does not. Do you see how this "trust me or gtfo" mentality does nothing but stunt/slow Feathercoin's (and neoS mining) progress ?

Or maybe.. that is exactly what the crypto "elite" want. eg. limit/slow the competition's growth (thus why you borked solo mining neoS at the kernal level :o )

I have not mentioned ESET-NOD32 because I am well aware that the vast majority of those are false positives.

What do you have to say about the two I posted ? I have enlarged the text so you do not miss it this time. ;)

To me it looks like HippieTech is FUDing in the hope of deterring miners from using Wolf's version & thus increase his/her profitability.

Wolfs miner has been on my PIMP rig since release with no issues.

Ok, let's get back to the technical aspects of mining this coin. :)

I got my 7970 and 280x builds running stable anywhere from 150 khash to 160 khash, so from what I been reading I am pretty much topped out unless Wolf wants to release his private kernal. ;)

Now I want to try to get some of my 270x boxes to work. Right now I can get them to around 60 khash on each card on Linux, which seems awfully low compared to the 280x builds. I have tried a Windows build and can get ~75 khash for awhile, but I cannot get them to run stable. I get a ton of ATI driver restart messages before it eventually just crashes the whole rig. I can get maybe a hour of run time, but at this point the build is too unreliable to trust.

The 270 rig I have been playing with is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on a 80 GB SSD, Intel CPU, Asus ZB7-A MB, and 4 Gig G Skill RAM. I have so far tried AMD driver versions 14.9 release, 14.9.1 Beta, 14.9.2 Beta, 14.6 beta, 14.7 RC3. I did have some stability with the 13.12 drivers, however I was back in the 55-60 khash ballpark with those no matter which clock speeds or settings I tried.

Hoping someone out there has had better luck with the 270 series and would be willing to share a few tips. I will take suggestions for either Linux or Windows builds if I can get in the 80 khash+ range. I believe I read someone was getting 90+ khash out of their 270's somewhere, but I could find no details.

The driver crashes are sometimes caused by a lack of system or pagefile memory. Set the pagefile to a MIN and MAX of at least 12gb and lets see what happens.

If you really want to get fancy, create a partition for it or move it to another drive. Some apps/games will also benefit from this. ;)

Thanks for the idea, but no go. I even tossed in 8 GB RAM to test with and increased the page-file as you suggested to 12 GB, still crashed. The whole system was acting kind of finicky, so I am in the process of reinstalling everything, OS, Drivers, etc. from scratch, and I will see how it goes once that is done.

Now I want to try to get some of my 270x boxes to work. Right now I can get them to around 60 khash on each card on Linux, ...

My average hashrate is 79,xx.

Graphic card: 270x, AMD Catalyst 14.9, CGMiner 3.7.7c, 4 GB RAM + 4 GB Swap, CPU AMD E-350 2x1.6 GHz
Antergos - Arch Linux 3.14.19-1-lts #1 SMP Thu Sep 18 20:21:04 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Parameters: --neoscrypt --intensity 12 --worksize 32 --gpu-threads 1
Additional, but that makes almost no difference: gpu-engine 1150, gpu-memclock 1500, auto-fan, temp-target 72 (more in winter :D; I get 80,xx Kh/s with the standard value of 75)

Phoenixcoin PXC
UFO Coin
Imperial coin and one or two others have also moved to Neoscrypt with Phoenixcoin being the first one to make the switch.

I'm sure more will follow in the future.

But now he is adding shapeshift.io directly to that new wallet!!

Alright, I can't look at cgminer anymore! It's been a whole day and I can't find what is wrong.
I have evga GTX 970 and when trying to start cgminer 3.7.7b neoscrypt I get that:

cgminer -n gives me that:

Can someone post comparison to X11 in terms of power consumption please? Is it higher? Is it lower?

With x11 you may not be too successful with undervolting your gpus much.  Since neoscrypt is a scrypt algo, you can undervolt substantially.

When I leave my cards at x11 settings (full voltage) and then switch to neoscrypt, it pulls 13% more from the wall.
However, if I undervolt my cards to a scrypt setting it is only about 7% more.  Of course this depends on which gpus you have.  I may be able to work my cards down even more with neoscrypt but I am content here.

Aren't you Litecoin mining software hero developer?
You pushed neoscrypt miner like 400% up in efficiency.

Thanks a lot for setting up a pool! :)

Welcome. :)

Pretty lonely right now, we are but still finding enough blocks to be comparable to more established pools, especially when considering the low number of miners to split the profits with.

It will be very hard to compete with the hash from Coinotron and Trade My Bit. If you want smaller steady payouts, use those pools. If you don't mind getting a bigger payout far less often, smaller pools will do just fine, and spreading the hash is always good for the network.

For you guys with Hawaii cards, or guys who just want to try something new, here: https://github.com/wolf9466/neo-sgminer5-hawaii

Should help you get this (270X, 290X, and 290X, in that order; nsfw): https://ottrbutt.com/miner/neoscryptwolf-11212014.png
Thanks. A stupid question - how do I make it do neoscrypt? :D With cgminer I was using "--neoscrypt" option as a command line argument, but sgminer doesn't recognize it. If I use "--algorithm neoscrypt" it starts hashing, but seems like it's trying to do regular scrypt because the name of the .bin file created starts with "ckolivas" and all my shares are rejected with "above target" message. And if I use "-k neoscrypt", I'm getting:

"Error 11: Building program (clBuildProgram)
[16:48:32] "/tmp/OCL6205T5.cl", line 506: error: identifier "MAX_GLOBAL_THREADS"
 is
          undefined
        __global ulong16 *V = (__global ulong16 *)(padcache + (0x4000 * (get_glo
bal_id(0) % MAX_GLOBAL_THREADS)));

[16:48:32] Failed to init GPU thread 0, disabling device 0
[16:48:32] Restarting the GPU from the menu will not fix this."

Kinda stuck here, how does it work?  :)

Nope, -k neoscrypt doesn't work for me with sgminer, I'm getting that "Error 11" thing with it. Anyway, I've found out what the problem was, it's just my linux skills suck.. I was trying to start the miner by simply calling "sgminer" after "cd-ing" to its folder but it seems like I've had a "system-wide" installation (with "make install") of some older version of sgminer previously and whenever I was trying to start this new sgminer, that older one was running instead. And it was running the regular scrypt algo instead of neoscrypt, thus all the rejected shares. So, as Wolf0 said, "--algorithm neoscrypt" is the right way to go here, I just had to call the miner with the full path specified, that is "/home/myusername/neo-sgminer5-hawaii/sgminer" in my case.

By the way, with this hawaii version — at least with "normal" raw-intensity of 6144, tc 8192, g 2, w 256 — I'm getting a lot lower hashrate on my tahiti (280x elpida), some 210k. The same card does 280k with the regular sgminer 5.

Does https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.feathercoin.wallet support the Neoscrypt Fork?

True, but I was asking to see if he was getting a shit hashrate or not - if he needed help tuning.
I didn't try neoscrypt yet. Just wanted to see wich driver gets better results to save time. And also would like to know what hash rate could I except with R9 280x?

I wrote the implementation everyone's using now - 290X used to get under 100kh/s, now it gets over 300kh/s. Boosting it to 600kh/s at this point just raises the diff.

You mean rises the profits

How would releasing it raise any profit? Diff would go up to compensate, it always does.

Is this a fool question?

So then just you mine with extra profits, and because noone else knows how to increase the hashrate you can mine at low diff

Nice deal

Your point?

My point is, you're mining and hoping for profit, while calling me greedy because I won't give you something for free because I want to profit. Quite hypocritical, as well as laughable.

I am profiting, I have free electricity, so its you whos probably hoping for profit, which is laughable

You just wont share your info because you dont want to and you want to profit yourself, so thats called greed

You could just say that you dont want to share it instead of giving stupid reasons why you wont do it

Oh, so you ARE mining for profit. So, if I want to profit, it's greed, but if you want to, it's okay? Gotcha.

Oh I should be mining for charity then, dont be ridiculous

FINALLY, some honesty. Now, you think I should code for charity?

Of course not but then ckolivas has to get money for the miner you use and modify the code

People barely give anything - ckolivas open sourced the software, and under the license, I can sell what I want, as long as I give the source to it. Tips amount to maybe one day worth of food for weeks worth of work.

So youre the solitaire huh  ;D

I put the Feathercoin Wallet 2 App on my tablet and it synced to Block 431999 - Which was on October 26.

Does https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.feathercoin.wallet support the Neoscrypt Fork?

It should support NeoScrypt. Iam redirecting this request to our AppTeam. Thanks for the heads up!

Regards,
ChekaZ

Any news on the app?  Google Play reviews indicate that current version was not designed to work with the NeoScrypt fork.

It's still being worked on, but it is not fixed yet.
I'll see if I can get someone to provide more information on the status of it.

Feathercoin runs its own forum rather than just posting on Bitcointalk this is the link
https://forum.feathercoin.com/ (https://forum.feathercoin.com/)

Unsure why you think its shady.
Its has been around for a long time now, has a dedicated team that can be contact on the forum above, it has a working beta wallet on core 0.9.3 with many extra features added to it and is in the process of final checks on it to release it, but I can't give you an ETA of this new Wallet yet.

Here is the link to the Beta of core 0.9.3 for Feathercoin on Git
https://github.com/FeatherCoin/Feathercoin/tree/0.9.3 (https://github.com/FeatherCoin/Feathercoin/tree/0.9.3)
If you do try to compile it yourself take note it is still only Beta and has not yet been released official for Feathercoin so do so at your own risk, also take note that once you upgrade to 0.9.3 you can't go back without downloading the whole blockchain again as its stores it in a different format, which is more efficient.

Feathercoin is not in it for the short term pump and dump, rather its looking at the long term picture.
I would not recommend putting your life saving in it, just like I wouldn't recommend that for any other coin, but at its current price a few hundred to a couple of thousand is a worthwhile idea.

Especially if BTCe does it again like they did in 2013 where they said they were delisting FTC caused a panic sell and then at the last minute changed their mind and didn't delist it which is possible since its volume has been over 70BTC in the last 24 hours. I guess we will find that out in February.

Hi I'm Kris I'm the one who has been working on getting the android app back up and running.

So the issue with the Feathercoin android wallet is that is does not have NeoScrypt in the java feathercoinj project so it is rejecting blocks after the hard fork.

So there are three things that needed doing.
1.) First get NeoScrypt which is a c program working with Java via jni.
2.) Integrate the jni code into feathercoinj (with multi platform support)
3.) Rebuild the android wallet with the updated feathercoinj library. And update the code to hash using NeoScrypt after the fork block.

So far I have managed to get number one working. Its taken a while as I know Java but both JNI and c are new areas for me so I have had to learn as I go.it still requires some automated tests bit I think they would be better placed inside feathercoinj.

Kris

I have done this for many different algorithms (x11, quark, groestl, qubit and scrypt).  Let me know if you need help.
#2.  https://github.com/HashEngineering/groestlcoinj - see the jni directory for the means of connecting the C code to Java.

#3.  The compiled jni libs will go in the feathercoin-wallet (for example:  https://github.com/HashEngineering/groestlcoin-wallet/tree/prod/wallet/libs)

Didn't they announce that last time then renege? I've still actually got some ftc on btce so I guess I'll have to log on and get it off (not that it's worth much now anyway). What exchanges actually still deal in ftc?

It's still on Bittrex, your link is incorrect

https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-FTC (https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-FTC)

And yes BTC-E did once before say they would delist it, caused a price crash and then changed their mind.
I guess we wait until the 1st to see if they do it again

thats strange - as i click on the link and it bombs out - but i search the link in 'market' in bittrex and it shows up with the SAME url ...

strange ...

anyway - the url that you posted is the correct one :)

as for btce ... wouldnt that mean that if the price crash is on purpose - then the owners / affiliations with btce COULD ( notice - not an accusation here - just pondering ) snap up all the ftc they could then dump them when they 'change their mind? ...

which also COULD mean that a huge purchase of ftc would get you a nice profit in the end IF this is the case? ...

just a pondering on how manipulative this market really is ...

I think it takes more than a newsletter to get the price up. I just think all alts are doing badly at the moment and FTC is included in that. Maybe the [price will climb back up[ whenever btc does but I think the demand for alts has dropped off significantly the past 6 months or so.

i cant see it being the demand for alts diminshing ...

in fact - when btc goes down - ive seen the demand for alts spike ... but that is only what i have watched happen many many times ...

the 'price' that everyone keep referring to is directly proportional to the price of btc - which can be considered moot ...

the whole concept of btc and alts ( as ive preached SO MANY times before ) is that these coins ARE the alternate CURRENCY to that of fiat ...

so of course 'price' will go down when btc goes down - its what most alts are compared against ...

btw - ftc ALWAYS had the vision of using ftc FOR markets of products and services ... it was the whole reason for ftc to exist in the first place ...

read the very start of the posts that the devs wrote - you will see it all there ... along with the 'markets' that the ftc community started for buying and selling of goods and services using ftc ...

Feathercoin newsletter is in the process of been written.
We hope to have it out within the week to let you know what is happening, there are many exciting things bubbling away in the background that will be covered in the newsletter

Really curious, can't wait what will be unveiled :)

ditto ...

will the newsletter be published via email - on here - or elsewhere? ...

#crysx

Sorry for being a bit slow in responding.
It will be posted on the Feathercoin forum and I will also make a PDF available.
I will also post on the FTC threads on bitcointalk when it is released and I'm sure we will also send out a tweet or two about it.

Thats true, we got our own forum (forum.feathercoin.com (http://forum.feathercoin.com)). If you want to stay updated head over there or take a look at the Feathercoin Development Overview. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=649737.msg11040713#msg11040713)

I try to update as often as possible.

yes I've been there since I made my previous post. posted, offered suggestions etc etc etc

i do think the community behind ftc might just come through and make something decent out of it, better chances then most around here.

Did he create those or is he now just part of the dev team? I saw he'd joined a couple of other alt coins a while back but can't remember which ones they were. Shame really that FTC now seems abandoned or has stagnated a bit. I think it had some promise originally. Who knows, maybe it'll rise from the ashes again at some point.

i'd agree that doesn't give a great impression of ftc lead dev, tbh someone I never had a great impression of in the first place, i.e. ftc started as a copy paste ltc job and a really bad one at that :(

however i don't think in its current form its a lost cause, in fact quite the opposite.

I have to cover him in this cases. Feathercoin Development doesnt get paid. Its driven by volunteers. He took these jobs to get some money to spend more time on FTC development. "LeadDev" for other coins is way to much. He may has overtaken the Development for those, some in case to protect Feathercoin. He has helped coins to switch over to NeoScrypt.

they mainly respond on their own forum ...

and due to the drop from btce - a lot has gone to cryptsy ...

but honestly - it doesnt look anything like the volumes that ftc used to have ...

They should try keep their forum presence on here as it's more likely to catch others interest. Their forum was completely dead the last time I checked just like most other alt coin forums so pointless preaching to the choir.

Feathercoin forum is not working!  what happens?

It's working now:
Quote
The forum is back online

We are sorry, but due to a server incident we had to install the latest available backup to bring the forum back to operation. Unfortunatelly not all posts could be recovered

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause

HAs the FTC market been taken down? Can't see it anymore but doubt it was getting much interest to keep it up.

Feathercoin is now on NeoScrypt, 64 blocks so far. All went as well as expected. If you have not updated then please do so now.

If you are having trouble mining you could try one of the following pools below that is now on the new algorithm.

Nut² Pools run by an IT Professional and long time Feathercoin community member

h t t p s : // ftc .nut2pools .com/

Coinotron, well known. Has been the pool for many for years.

https : / / coinotron . com/

Any thoughts ? ::)

Just to let you know, Ghostlander has done  some great updates to NSGminer (neoscrypt miner), give some significant hash rate increase GPU mining Feathercoin (FTC).

The new "open source" Feathercoin forum is up and running using NodeBB and voting "moderation system" - check it out.
