Title: Looks like the end is near for scam coins/ICOs - the Feds are coming!
Post by: flapman1 on October 28, 2014, 05:07:57 PM
Looks like the end is near for scam coins/ICOs.  Best dump out  and move into something safe and (hopefully) scam free like Dogecoin or Pandacoin, OpalCoin etc.  The Feds are coming ...

http://www.coindesk.com/fincen-rules-bitcoin-payment-processors-exchanges-money-transmitters/ (http://www.coindesk.com/fincen-rules-bitcoin-payment-processors-exchanges-money-transmitters/)

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/sec-sends-inquiry-letters-hundreds-bitcoin-companies-unregistered-securities/ (https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/sec-sends-inquiry-letters-hundreds-bitcoin-companies-unregistered-securities/)

I don't want to hear how "this is crypto, anon, the government can't touch it". Right, but they can touch Bittrex, Cryptsy, etc. and "encourage" them to delist anything on their scam list ... And if the exchanges want to stand firm (like that will happen ...) good luck getting any real merchants to use a coin once they get a friendly call from a nice fellow in Washington.

Some might want to make fine distinctions between Exchanges, altcoins like Etherium, etc. but the guy on the phone with all the power in the cheap suit making $30,000 a year won't.  All the scammers love to put pics up from Wolf of Wallstreet.  Funny they never post pics from the end of that movie when it all went to hell.

China has been itching around banning altcoins for years but hasn't taken the plunge ... exactly.  With the US taking the lead there won't be any stopping them.  Bye-bye Bter, etc.

The irony is there's been a far greater number of POW scam coins than ICOs. At least some of rex's ICOs people got their money back.

Yada, yada, yada!  :D

The US government doesn't lead the whole world. Why should all other countries follow the actions of the US?
In some countries crypto is accepted as "private money" and as long crypto currencies are paying their taxes for their business transactions, nothing will happen in that countries.

Good ole' Germany for example! ;D

I think you misunderstood my comment. I've referred it to OP's post spreading panic because of the action against crypto by the US government only.
I'am not against the USA, only against spreading FUD or panic about crypto.

So if i made you upset then i'am really sorry about that.

Alternate Cryptocoins come out almost every day and not all of them are scam coins. A few were made with the intention of profit in mind by the developer but not every coin was created in order to scam the people. Also just because the US says something against Cryptocoins...doesn't mean the whole world or the people have to follow. It is up to you to decide whether you want to trade in them or not.

The world has a perfect right to tell the US to screw off.  Problem is that the major exchanges, financial centers, etc. are all in the US or if London or Tokyo linked into the US.  This is how sanctions on Russia work.  Volkswagen could care less for Ukraine but they do care about all the VWs sold in Texas so they play ball.  The Feds can shut off a crypto by pressuring merchants who use the coin and exchanges.  Back to VW: let's say they want to accept "Berlincoin" for new cars.  Berlincoin gets on the "bad list" for some reason or another.  VW has to decide to stick with Berlincoin or stick with sales in Texas ... There's plenty of safe coins (my oft mentioned Pandacoin, as safe as houses. Dogecoin despite a vague socialist odor, Litecoin, etc.)  This is a good thing.  The trash will be put out and the real projects with good (or at least not so bad) people behind them will dominate.  Rather like killing the weeds so the flowers grow.

Alternate Cryptocoins come out almost every day and not all of them are scam coins. A few were made with the intention of profit in mind by the developer but not every coin was created in order to scam the people. ...not all of them are scam coins.

This is not about "scam coins"... it's about selling unregistered securities to US citizens.

Most operations will get polite "cease and desist" letters inquiring about their registration status...
But it's likely PRO CRIMINALS like RealSolid will be facing extradition from Australia and serious jail time.

And a slew of people will go to jail for tax evasion...
The NSA/IRS probably knows the owner of 90% of the Top 1000 Bitcoin accounts.

*** Now is the time to write a detailed letter to the SEC and pile on the criminal scammers like RealSolid ***...
I'm actually gonna talk to my lawyer about this... there is $5 million up for grabs from the MCX Fraud.

This was always in the pipeline.

It took 2-3 years to prepare to take down Full Tilt Poker...
And it took 2-3 years to build up the FinCEN and IRS departments for this first crypto salvo.

That sounds right. They can't just arrest people, they have to gather evidence first. That takes a long time, and it looks like they now have enough evidence to start arresting people.

This post is beyond stupid.  I love All the inferred definitions all these threads have.

  1.  Cryptsy.  Already signed up and paid for to the FED.  They're on the books.  Fincen recognized..  Most dumb asses that call them cryptsy or morons that try to sue them for not securing their own computers should know that. .

2.  Ethereum.. is an ipo made to a Germany company. . Off limits. . This post is stupid.

3.  Bittrex. . Not just coins are on the list..  they are not registered... and are the host of dozens if not hundreds of unregistered securities to boot..  scam coins.. pffft. . They escrow the pot for security scams!  A new one everyday and are likely the cause of the complaint backlash on alts.    Shame bittrex shame...

4.  China following suit with us law?? Do you not know the reason why China was the first to outlaw bitcoin??  Man... start reading a bit.   Nonetheless thanks for this Potatoe pot full of morons.  It's fantastic.   I'd say honey pot.  But yall are swimming.. not sticking to nothing.

Ehterium is German but wants to operate as part of the international financial system.  To work with large US merchants and to have US customers they need to follow US law meaning Federal registrations and registrations in each state with Etherium holders.  For a few punters now it doesn't matter but they've dreams of becoming giants and with size comes attention from State AGs in the US especially after some idiot sues about something.  They always do in the US.

Point taken for Cyptsy; they'll be the last man standing. But remember they'll happily delist something if asked politely.  The US government and the government of godforsaken Florida could grind them to dust with procedures, request, processes, lawsuites and investigations if they're not willing to play ball on something the government wants.

The Chinese government hates altcoins but doesn't want to seem completely backwards; if the US goes "full retard" they don't need to hold back at all.

No need for the "stupids" m8; we're all gentlemen here.

No need for the "stupids" m8; we're all gentlemen here.

Looks like the end is near for scam coins/ICOs.  Best dump out  and move into something safe and (hopefully) scam free like Dogecoin or Pandacoin, OpalCoin etc.  The Feds are coming ...

   Always good for a laugh.

My apologies Good Sir.  *sips tea*
Might you pass me that Opal?  Ahh fine specimen.
Mother! Bring panda round! Yes Panda! I want Panda to see this OpalCoin!  It's marvelous!
*sips tea* Good Sir, let us round up the Doges,  it nears time for the hunt! Fabulous!   Ahhh *sips and finishes tea* Well then! Time to hunt down some of that peasant vermin who hath been scamming in the forest!
*smashes tea cup* *grabs shotgun* Off then!! To a marvelous hunt Good Sir!

Want to do an ico or ipo? Use bitshares decentralized exchange and use
bitusd or btc or gold or anything...

This.

US Gov. can regulate things regarding to their country and its citizens.
They cannot control decentralized exchanges and exchanges in other countries.

Its cause theres no fiat involved and the on off ramps would be legit businesses like coinbase etc but the exchange would act more like a big collection of prediction markets.. Revolutionary to say the least.. Out of all of them i think bitshares has nailed every step to the tee and it started with the good name something that other coins cant say the same about competing in the space. Invest in the decisions not the tech early in the game

They should do their homework and not list any suspicious coin. not that they make voting lists where people pay to get on rank.1
Most exchanges are scammers themselves.

They should make more groups of coins. first all would get listed on lets say ListC after soem time, when they would prove they'd do well would get listed to ListB, and after long time and only the best to ListA.

Exchanges shoudl protect users, but here is Wild west and in many cases see just one day ahead and try to suck as much money out of them as they can.

wsj says this is a 'rumor' and the site that published the news is offline.

Interesting. The site is indeed offline, but is archived here: https://archive.today/pVo4O#selection-315.0-315.1038

ethereum, counterparty, and bitshares all commented and said they received no letters.

could be a massive anti-btc fud campaign. everyone should remain calm until more info surfaces.

FUD indeed, motivations unknowable. OP's post history is breathtaking! Have a look.

that FUD your talking about was sourced from press releases on Crypto news sites.. not us forum users so uhhhhh

I am referring to the FUD from OP's post history, which is massive and generally promotes Panda. He spammed this particular "Feds are coming" headline across a lot of threads. He is a fan of yours also, as I imagine you know.

Not my cuppa - neither of you.

This Spoetnik fellow, although rather overly enthusiastic, is exactly right.  Don't see the problem, there's plenty of safe cryptos.  PandaCoin is one such, boring, safe, thread full of happy pandas, scamming no-one. Dogecoin is in the good list.  Litecoin, lots of the old boys club.  The new lot are trash which needs to be in the rubbish pit.  Just a matter of people shifting BTC away from the garbage coins into the real stuff.  Cryptsy has paid the fee it seems.  Bittrex should have the money after all the scam ICOs they've been involved with.  We'll be fine, less coins and if a scam comes up enter the G-men stage right.  No worries.

Hey mouthy argumentative idiots.. ALL OF YOU

I TOLD YOU SO !

Remember me saying regulation is coming non stop for a year and how you all said but but they can't ?

well go stamp your feet and stomp it your room and slam the door i am sure they will protect your coins / service LOL

I am ALWAYS right ..suck it  8)

Speaking of FUD, here is an unedited snippet from the Poloniex trollbox, just a few minutes old:

"Spoetnik: i nuked a Legend account yesterday too which was big LOL'z
Spoetnik: he tucked his tail between his legs so fast ahahha
Spoetnik: so when he started crying about it i reversed it cause i am a nice guy :)
Spoetnik: the Trust Rating system at Bitcointalk is a big useless corrupt joke = The Point"
