You never state an amount, just that "some" of the coins will be used to fund development.

Your idea certainly sounds awesome but there's one thing I'm not sure I understand, if there is no mining does that mean you're currently holding all 73 billion coins? If so, what guarantee do people have you will not dump and disappear as soon as the coin gets some traction? It's been done plenty of times before.

Thank you for asking this important question. We try to be as transparent as possible. We deeply believe in creating value for everybody with this coin through providing immediate use-cases for normal people with microdonations and (soon payments) inside the browser. Our main goal is to change how monetatization on the web works and create a more free, decentralized and censorship-free web, with less ads. Therefore the long-term success of our coin is most important to us. To achieve this we need to have a broad distribution among Bitcoin users but especially also among people who have never had before a crypto-currency at their fingertips. Simply because the latter group outnumbers the former by several orders of magnitude. We believe that free giveaways are the way to go where people with proven established online identities can claim free coins to try out the system and hopefully stick to it, because they see the benefits, which are many, compared to centralized systems. We plan to give away between 40 and 50% of all the coins (not counting bounties and crowdsale). Therefore we also plan to form partnerships with established content platforms and publishers which are waiting for new monetization models. This process will naturally take some time. Maybe 2 years. We simply do not know yet. Everything else would be a lie.

To archieve further transparency we embed a unique identifier into the transaction whenever somebody claimes free coins. In case of Facebook it is the FB-ID (a long number). A side-effect is that he can transfer his centralized identity to the decentralized Internet age.

Is there a use for Ripple for normal users of the web? No. Banks love Ripple. Because they stay in power and can create more fiat on the Ripple network.

What makes Ripple and Stellar still interesting is that they do not have PoW. Thus they can have almost no or no inflation (unlike Bitcoin) and the price is kept fairly high because the supply is low.

"By exident" not even two days later 2014-01-21 at 02:39:01 already 5000 blocks were created and the block-reward was only 47 DRK.
This way the creators (and maybe also a very few other lucky ones) got 2,000,000 DRK. Yes, through mining. Instamining.

MINING?
Because some people say mining is the only way to distribute a coin in a fair way. It is not! Maybe for Bitcoin it was, but not anymore! Especially not, if you consider that there are people with access to thousands of cloud compute instances and have a monthly allowance of 100k+ USD to spend on them. Normal people will not benefit from mining, also not because they do not know how to compile a daemon on a remote server though a linux shell. Not possible. Further the electricity and hardware needs to be paid by the users of the network. Inflation makes their coins worth less and less over time compared to when there is no inflation (and everything else stays the same). This does not mean that PoW is a bad thing in general. We need a _few_ PoW-coins in our eco-system of cryptocurrencies and especially Bitcoin needs to stay. The more divers the PoWs, the better, because there can only be one coin per type of PoW in the long run.


For CoinAwesome we decided to "nest" its blockchain into other PoW blockchains for higher security. We will first start with Bitcoin as soon as the network stabilized at one block per minute. This way we can avoid most (theoretical) attacks on PoS-systems. So far we have not seen a successful attack on a PoS-chain anyway but be want to be completely safe.

CROWDSALE PRE-ANN - UPDATE: POSTPONED
Tomorrow we will announce the start and exact details of our initial crowd sale. It will be done in a very simple yet secure way. We will publish a BTC address. 24h rounds. People who send Bitcoin to this BTC address will receive CoinAwesome back to the corresponding AWE address after the round ends. To get access to them they will need to import the private key of their BTC-sending-address into the wallet extension. Afterwards they can spend them on tipping awesome content (hopefully) or transfer them to a paper-wallet or their QT-client. More details tomorrow.
Edit: Since the demand is fairly low we postpone the ANN for the crowdsale so we can set up some more giveaways.

We are now live for a little over one week. One forgive us the silence in the past days. We were working heavily on our GRAND GIVEAWAY. We also did not release one extension more, but two.    If you like CoinAwesome and want to support the free quality web and also let your friends know about it, you can use your personal referral link to earn 10% of the coins they receive at the FB giveaway. This is also recommended for blogs who write about CoinAwesome.

   In order to make the decentralized like button (awesome button) work on every website, the original extension needs to interact with the underlying website. Therefore extended permissions are required and the warning which Chrome/Chromium issues did let many people not start using it. To let people try out CoinAwesome's tipping-any-website feature we build this second extension with minimal permission requirements. It has full wallet functionallity and also supports tipping and sharing any website but the awesome-button can not work this way. As soon as our main wallet is trusted and reviewed by external parties we will shut down this extension.

[ANN] NAMING SYSTEM
We started working on our address naming system which will make it possible to register names in a decentralized way and map them to addresses, very similar to how Namecoin does it. This way CoinAwesome users will not need to remember hashes of public keys (addresses) but instead work with easily recognizable names. Names will be able to register in a few clicks inside the wallet extension. For us a naming system seems to be crucial for mainstream adoption. Expect launch of it in the next two weeks.

We designed the sales to be as simple as possible. To make the start smooth we will start the sales with 10 million for day one (round one), 20 million for day two, 30M for day three, 40M day 4, 50M day 5, 60M day 6, 70M day 7, 80M day 8, 90M day 9 until we reach 100 million AWE. How does it work exactly?
Each CoinAwesome AWE address corresponds to one Bitcoin BTC address. The private key is the same (format can be different). So all you need to do is to send BTC from your BTC address to 1Awesomeo1HRfWmZdVbqmCcjkBdXx1jqMf and receive AWE on your corresponding AWE address. Afterwards you can import your Bitcoin private key into your CoinAwesome wallet for Chrome/Chromium. There are 24h rounds starting every day at 17:00 GMT. During this period you can send BTC and receive AWE proportionally to the bitcoins you send. There is no fixed price. You, the users, decide how much CoinAwesome shall be worth.


STEPS:
1. Make sure that you have access to the private key of your Bitcoin address from which you send the bitcoins. Do not send from exchanges directly!
2. Send any amount of bitcoins equal or greater than 0.001 BTC to 1Awesomeo1HRfWmZdVbqmCcjkBdXx1jqMf during one of the 24h rounds. The order inside the 24h does not matter.
3. After the end of each of the 24h rounds we will send you your AWE to your corresponding AWE address. You will need to import the private key (WIF) of your Bitcoin address into your CoinAwesome wallet for Chrome/Chromium. Afterwards you can start using them right away or transfer them to another wallet (e.g. paper wallet or QT-client).



EXAMPLE ROUNDS (numbers valid from day 10, before lower, read above):

• 3 people send each 0.1 BTC to 1Awesomeo1HRfWmZdVbqmCcjkBdXx1jqMf during one of the 24h rounds. Then they will receive each  33,333,333 AWE.
• 2 people send 1 BTC and 4 people 2 BTC: The ones who send 1 BTC receive 10 million AWE and the ones who send 2 BTC receive 20 million AWE.
• Only 1 guy sends 0.3 BTC during one of the 24h rounds: He receives all 100M AWE for this day.

The proceeds will be used to fund further development of the platform and the CoinAwesome for Education project (have a look at our website).

We do not have access to the Bitcoin private key you import into your CoinAwesome wallet. But in case you want to have complete peace of mind, we recommend to send first your BTC to another new BTC address and then purchase your AWE coins using this new BTC address. (Thanks to yampi)

Staking is currently not possible with the browser wallet extension. So the extension does not require any special amount of resources.
Only the QTclient/daemon can stake and run a full node. Staking inside the extension is planned for the future but not important for now.

Sorry, misunderstood you. The browser wallet does not need to sync. Usually we speak about syncing when we talk about "syncing with the network", i.e. downloading the blockchain. We will send you the coins you purchased latest a few hours after the end of each round (5 PM GMT).

To clarify:
1) If you want to purchase AWE, tip AWE on websites or simply use AWE inside the browser, then you need the browser wallet extension: the "CoinAwesome Wallet". For most people we recommend this!
2) If you want to run a full node or stake AWE and earn transaction fees: You need the QTclient (or the coinawesomed - daemon). Available inside our Github.

Yes, the plan is to build a content browser, where people can upload any content like music and videos. The content itself will not be uploaded to the blockchain but to a DHT (think of torrent). We are searching for ideas how to release the rest of the coins to the public. One idea was to sell all CoinAwesome AWE which are ment for sales for 1 bitcoin satoshi (0.00000001 BTC) for each AWE. This would be cheaper than the current exchange price, but would guarantee not to crash the CoinAwesome AWE price further down. Guys, what is your opinion on this?

Sounds like a fair way to do it, will allow new users to get it at a cut-rate. Won't stop micro-dumpers, but I could care less about the exchange price, since I am following this project for the tech involved.

Hello CoinAwesome people - could you please clarify something about the specs for this coin?


If it's 100% PoS, but no new coins get created, then how does it stake and move the blockchain?

If you open your wallet and stake, does it generate 0 AWE as reward? If that's the case then is there basically no incentive to help move the blockchain?

Or am I misreading the specs and "100% PoS" means that staking generates 100% annual return (in which case "0% inflation" cannot be true)? Thanks for shedding any light on this.

The reward is only the transaction fees (incentive). Most people don't invest into a coin because of a couple percent stake reward anyways.

We had a dev working on making it possible to use the QTclient to tip any websites. Unfortunately he needed to get a official job for visa reasons, so the development has rather stalled. If there is any experienced C++/QT-dev here, write us! It is a fairly easy job and we pay with AWEsome units :)

Hopefully it can be revived on cryptopia, that's about the only altcoin exchange I use anymore. Remember to look them up on twitter as well. We started working on a easy web tipping tool and wallet. Not as comfortable as the browser extension but hopefully more accessible.

The miniWallet is a little wallet inside https://planetawesome.org and https://coinawesome.com and works with Firefox and Chrome and maybe even IE and Opera (if somebody wants to test). It supports sending to URLs (upvoting) as well as to AWE addresses.

Is there a way I can generate url's that anyone can claim, say the first person to click can claim? We have an idea of using this on a tipping site inside a chat. I did get CoinAwesome to work with an IRC style tipbot, but I believe Phoeynix is looking for something that will work inside a php environment - the user receives a link in a private message at random intervals and can claim the coins by clicking the link and maybe viewing a CoinAwesome sponsored ad or something. tbh I haven't got to discuss it in great detail with her, she is quite the busy woman but this is the platform I feel that will do what we are looking to accomplish.

One time tips could be easily implemented. The wallet would send a transaction to a new privateKey (its address) and via clicking on the URL (which has the privKey) the miniWallet should be able to import it (if under the same domain). Will look into this soon!

Seems it kinda died. I bought a bunch of coins so I could test the platform, it was kinda fun. The Firefox extension never panned out because of some code insecurities.

They have an extension that does the same thing with Bitcoin, iirc. I was going to use it in a project I was working on, but the individuals that hired me dropped their project too so I haven't reviewed it in weeks.

Not dead but sleeping. Firefox users can use the miniWallet which is on the website to send tips. But this did not catch on. So we need to change the concept. Keep your coins for now.

Hah nice to know you are still around. I'm still hodlin' my coins, have spread few around every couple of weeks. Twas' a shame about the miniWallet didn't catch on :-\

I like the overall concept so it will find it's place. It's a nice way to send a few bits without need for centralized services like changetip, it could conceivably eliminate the need for shapeshift.

How could it eliminate the need for ShapeShift?

We are thinking of changing the concept so that you don't send the tip anymore to the website but instead you play a little investment game around the newsworthiness (or relevance) of the URL (article, post, ...). Feedback welcome!

Adding some games around this would be idea. I also checked out the market on bleutrade. No buy support unfortunately, though I can get nearly 5 million coins for < 1 BTC so that's kinda nice.
