Title: Will I stay or Will I leave - Poll
Post by: Kprawn on March 20, 2016, 09:05:39 AM
A lot of people feel very strongly about the support for the different sides to the debate. Core vs Classic. We saw some people leaving the scene when Mike Hearn did his

XT tantrum when he left to go work with the competition. I was just wondering, if people will do the same thing, if either Core or Classic failed? Does your support for Bitcoin,

rely purely on the developers who work on it, or do you support the technology. Let's put this to a poll. Once again, this poll will not be a true reflection of anything, due to

sock puppets on this forum etc... Let's just poll the group to see how they feel about this.  ::)

How would one determine whether his side lost? Say if Classic got 75% and successfully forked, the Core could still stick around and try to take the "power" back when Classic's model proves to be faulty. The same other way around, Classic can fail to get 75% now, but could get there later on when people are disappointed with Core's model.

The ride never ends. Learn to love it.

Bitcoin can be only one. All the rest are altcoins.
The approch Mike had - to leave - was not good neither for Bitcoin, neither for him (imho).

I understand that this involves much more politics than a dev would like, but leaving is usually not the best way to fight for your views.

I'd say stay and make your point of view stong and loudly heard. But whether that will be the direction taken or not, stay.

I agree. Try to learn to love the ride.

It is a hope of a large number of bitcoin users that it will get success sooner in the coming future.
So I also have a faith that it will be established in the future in all over the world and will sooner become a global currency.

I definitely wouldn't automatically stay. Devs on both sides have zero experience of economics and them trying to tinker without taking that into account, or worse, thinking they know something about it, could send it to hell.

If there's one thing this thing has in spades it's the naivety and greed of the people involved. I don't believe most of these guys have enough long term vision and I'd walk if it was looking bad.

i am not gonna leave bitcoin just because one side won. as long as bitcoin is alive and still being used either for trading or small shopping i will continue to use bitcoin and support it anyway i can.

and i don't think the situation is so black and white, it is not going to be win or lose there should be a consensus or it's not gonna work out for either sides.

This depends on what exactly happens after a controversial HF is activated. However, since Classic is moving away from the "just Core with a 2 MB block size limit" model and adding some undesirable "features" it is more likely that I'd abandon Bitcoin.

The approch Mike had - to leave - was not good neither for Bitcoin, neither for him (imho).
I understand that this involves much more politics than a dev would like, but leaving is usually not the best way to fight for your views.
It was always about politics. The people behind the controversial HF's aren't what I'd call 'excellent developers' anymore.

It is a hope of a large number of bitcoin users that it will get success sooner in the coming future.
Mostly because they're greedy (hoping that the price will go up).

i am a bitcoin core supporter, but let's pretend bitcoin classic takes over, then i will continue to stay as i believe in the future of bitcoin. the only negative point i see is when bitcoin classic indeed wins the battle (which i don't think will happen), then a certain group can stand up and create bitcoin ultimate for example, to take over classic. and i'm sure that it will happen. it will be group against group. and at the end the only loser will be bitcoin. :(

it depends!
if bitcoin takes a hit because of the change and major developers leave and give the development of bitcoin to some few that lead it to ruins i would not stay because i don't want to watch something i liked die.

I'm uncertain as to which position is more stupid: 1) Not knowing (ignorance); 2) Not caring (disinterested). I'm leaning more towards your position. What do you think is going to happen if you let Bitcoin be taken over by a small group of inexperienced developers being backed by a corporation (Coinbase)? Take a wild guess.

Because it doesn't matter what side wins :D as long as Bitcoin develops further...
Can't really do that without real developers and engineers.

That's definitely not the only point because:

leaving this would be just admitting a failure, i'm going to see how it will resolve in the end, i'm sure it will be sorted out in some way

and bitcoin it's not about a central figure, i'm staying with the decentralized nature of it, so if dev abandon the ship other dev will emerge, devs counts nothing here they are just coders

don't give importance to them because by the time you do so, you're thinking about a centralized system....

i have heard it said that lots of different competing node types would be healthy for bitcoin.

Whoever said that is a moron, it's the opposite of the truth.

If the object of the game is to agree on which transactions/blocks are valid, then why would you introduce a competition? Competition and agreement are opposing concepts; it's not possible to agree with a proposition whilst also simultaneously contesting it. Bitcoin runs on consensus, and competing nodes is anti-consensus, by definition.

I guess I'm from the old school. The idealists that want bitcoin to be an incorruptible money.

If the shrill voices, panic merchants, politicking and disingenuity we've seen recently from (mainly) classic supporters is able to change the way bitcoin is headed, against the advice of the (active) developers who actually know what's going on, then my faith in the that type of future for bitcoin is destroyed. I might still use it, but as a (probably inefficient) paypal, since i'm invested in it.

Satoshi chose to hand the reins to Gregory Maxwell for a reason... he understood the idea and believed in its Core principles better/more than anyone.

If there comes a day where His emails don't become the future roadmap for Bitcoin... decentralization will have been lost... and Bitcoin will have died.

We cannot let that happen.

I will stay as there is and will always be a lot profit to be made with Bitcoin. But I am not quite sure if I will continue to support Bitcoin as I am doing right now if an alternative takes over. It means that literally anything can happen with Bitcoin and that the freedom/decentral aspect that we value so much, is worth next to nothing as certain entities can force us to do anything they wish.

Because they're people that I used to talk to long ago. They were rational, intelligent, were not mindless drones following the herd and I greatly respected their opinion. None of them have been here for more than a year. LoupGaroux hasn't been here for almost three years.

Sockpuppets aside.... It still looks like many people are still willing to hang in there for some of their own reason.. {profit / believe that it might get better / loyalty to the

cause.} I am also very outspoken about this whole Classic vs Core thing, but I still believe in the ultimate positive outcome of this experiment. Abandoning Bitcoin, because

some developers want to ruin it for everyone, is not an option... We will stuck in there and ride this to the end.  ;D

It's not about "some developers want[ing] to ruin it for everyone," but the fact that it's possible for a handful of developers to ruin it for everyone.
Turns out Bitcoin ain't the "mathematically-secured, trustless currency, not a plaything of corruptible h00mans & their frailties, like that filthy fiat toilet paper."

I see. Out of those 4 I only remembered Kluge (didn't notice the other ones).

I will leave if blockstream or something similar become successful, they can use their technology on centralized currency.
That makes no sense. The only reason for which this could come to someones mind is due to reading the propaganda by the 'forkers' or shills. As an example, they tend to say that the Lightning Network is Blockstream's product and is centralized (obviously both are false).

Turns out Bitcoin ain't the "mathematically-secured, trustless currency, not a plaything of corruptible h00mans & their frailties, like that filthy fiat toilet paper."
'The only thing' that could destroy it is human stupidity (as with everything).

I will definitely stay and keep supporting Bitcoin. As long as it helps me save my money and make some money with it I will stay on Bitcoin. And I still have some coins to sell so I will not leave until I at least sell those coins against a profit.

It's not a egoistic issue to leave. Whatever might be, the decision needs to take bitcoin towards growth rather than fall. So only the future will give the outcome.

I do not care which client system we use, as long as it further Bitcoin as a technology and provides a net benefit in the long run. If we are not able to maintain the capacity of being able to run the blockchain without having our blocks overfilled, we being to lose the integrity of the network, which drives people away. This is something that we are not able to afford.

it depends on a lot of things. at this point I don't care which one takes over.
I am not exactly an expert but I have reviewed both proposals and in both of them I have found some things that I didn't exactly like to see.

so in the future if bitcoin is still the same good old bitcoin, I will continue using it but if things chance like the decentralization fail or the fee market changes I may just leave.

yes, almost all of we are dont care about who will win between core or classic, its why i choose "It does not matter what side win"
but i think bitcoin community will not divided even everything happen.

the only problem I found is that I CAN'T set an avatar.. any good soul to explain me how do I do it? lol
if you stay,so you choose one of that 2 sides between core and classic, shich one you choose to stay?
you should be patient, newbie and jr.member still can't wear avatar, just keep watch and post until you got better rank member.

I'm pretty sure that it does matter and that people should care (essentially you're saying that you're okay with a 'takeover' otherwise).

but i think bitcoin community will not divided even everything happen.
This is wrong, the Bitcoin community is already divided (albeit a small portion supports Classic).

Only the future will tell how Bitcoin is going to be. Their is no point of me leaving when I am making money with Bitcoin. This is just not the right time and moment for me. This can change in the future but for the moment I am good.
The question wasn't directed at the presented, but rather the future ("will").

If you leave you'd miss out on the entertainment value of this cluster fuck of clueless retards having heated discussions like they know what's going on. Idiots are always the most entertaining part of any media. Just think of this forum as a running debate between Gomer Pyle, Carl the greenskeeper from Caddyshack, Clark Griswold and his cousin Eddie, Navin Johnson from The Jerk, Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne from Dumb and Dumber and hundreds of others. Just do what I do and whenever you read a really stupid group of posters having a debate just assign one of the faces below to each of them. You'll laugh until you cry.

I've not been particularly impressed with anyone from any angle. I think it's a delicate time and Bitcoin could easily fade into irrelevance if the wrong move is made. It's a trillion miles away from being too big to fail. I'll chip if there's clearly a better option that's looking strong.

either way i will hold my bitcoins and hope that people will show more interest in this cryptocurrency, thus making the price grow significantly and allow me to make some good money

This is why one needs to be conservative when it comes to scaling Bitcoin, else it might go down the path of wrong and irrelevant.

I will stay I do not know why people are arguing about this. If you want to leave just leave. I am staying because I am doing good with Bitcoin and I also want Bitcoin be successful.

Bitcoin is the heaven of payment systems, as it has absolutely 0 restrictions. So even the guy who opened this poll wants to leave I recommend him to think twice or thrice before deciding to leave.

I do not see much difference between Core and Classic. Both need hard fork to do 2MB block size increase. Hard fork has been applied many times before in the digital coins.

the difference is that classic is nothing more than an altcoin. and if classic for whatever reason takes over core (which will not happen) then it's a punch in the face of every one that loves the freedom aspect of bitcoin. it means that a certain group can force us to use something we don't want. it's basically like a dictatorship. that's why we have to protect the core client.

But if the price is changing more often I will stay without a doubt.

If you will leave at this stage then you will surely regret as halving is on its way and if you can hold your coins till that time than you can make good profits by selling at that time.

Its the time to hold rather than quitting. Right now there is no risk in your earning as no work is involved. Only you hold for few more months and quit. You may get some additional earning because of halving.

Everyone wants that additional profits and that is the reason majority of us are holding our coins at a moment as we can expect higher price at the time of halving.

We don't see many article/news/discussion about bitcoin classic and classic nodes is slowly decreasing, so i think classic will dead soon.
Don't forget Bitcoin XT, unlimited and bitcore nodes still running ::)
The number of nodes (especially in a short time-frame) is a very unreliable metric of support. Classic 'supporters' have demonstrated this by letting a small group of people start a huge number of nodes.

Everyone wants that additional profits and that is the reason majority of us are holding our coins at a moment as we can expect higher price at the time of halving.
Time to stop being greedy.

One of those does not work.

Well one has to consider that this is a 'paid' Sybil attack and that quite a high percentage of those nodes are pruned. In any case, the intention behind it is not strengthening the network for sure.

It doesn't make any sense what you say. You can still make money with a stable price. So I'm not really sure what the problem is....

I didn't vote because my opinion wasn't represented in the survey.  If this option were included: "I'd stick around awhile and give the elected side a chance to prove their conviction."  Then I'd have voted for that one.  My concerns about bitcoin aren't centered around turning a profit; it's the health of the technology and the preservation of its virtues that concerns me.  If bitcoin becomes some regulated, centralized, KYC type of system, I'm rolling up my bag and running....just like that!  I'm sure many others would too.

People that is using Bitcoin must have the patience for it to wait for a better value and that would be nice but it is hard to know what is going to happen of course.
But it is hard to find out what will happen with the value so the chance is also that you can wait a lpng time for it.

I'm very much interested in how the halving will affect the value of bitcoins. At first, I was just going with the trend/hype of many.
Then I kind of gathered information and speculations and came to an opinionated conclusion that while the halving will probably affect the value of bitcoins, I do think that it will not last as people might start dumping.

I am deciding to stay for a bit longer the price is finally changing again and that gives me something to do on Bitcoin. I only think about quiting Bitcoin when the price is stable for to long then I think about leaving.
Yeah people are still thinking about leaving or staying I can tell you this that this is not the time to leave at all. At the moment there is much happening with Bitcoin like the halving that can come in.
For me it depends on how Bitcoin is doing if I see that the price is not moving and I know that this is going to be a waist of time wi will leave without hesitation.
I would sell all my coins and quit just like that.

Majority of people are committing the same mistake that you are doing as they don't have patience and will sell all their coins at lower price without waiting for a descent period.

The bitcoin price is quite low at the moment. It is just 20-50% higher than the mining electricity cost. So I will hold.

I am sure that I am going stay, the price is now moving up and it will be dumb of me to leave now when I know that I can make some money now. So I will nor leave now maybe in the future but not know.

I don't really care. I'm using an online wallet. It's up to them to decide which one they want to support.

I'll just go with the flow, but that's just me. I don't know with you guys.

Same too because yesterday a lot of people have any problem with the core.various problem and make me stay in an online wallet and worried to try core. but some people prefer using core until now.

I think that I will stay for a while because I am still making some money and I am not convinced that the Bitcoin is already dead.
When the Bitcoin is dead I am sure to give up by then but as long as I can make some money I am making use of it.

i am not gonna leave bitcoin just because one side won. as long as bitcoin is alive and still being used either for trading or small shopping i will continue to use bitcoin and support it anyway i can.

and i don't think the situation is so black and white, it is not going to be win or lose there should be a consensus or it's not gonna work out for either sides.
It does not matter to me which side wins because I am going to stay and that is what matters to me. As long as I can keep doing what I am always doing on Bitcoin I am good.

I think personally that you should definitely stay instead of leaving, because bitcoin has a very big future ahead of right now and if you want to earn some money, then bitcoin is the right thing to do.

But really, it is your choice after all.

So you're staying as long as you can earn a few bucks from signature campaigns? You're definitely here for all the right reasons. ::)

It does not matter to me which side wins because I am going to stay and that is what matters to me. As long as I can keep doing what I am always doing on Bitcoin I am good.
Your statament does not even make sense (all that matters to you that you're staying?). Additionally, it does matter what happens. You can't let a controversial HF take over, else the system is not as resistant as you think (which is one of the reasons that Bitcoin's blockchain is so valuable).
But really, it is your choice after all.
If you want to be ignorant enough and support the wrong side or not care at all, nobody can stop you.

If you ask me i will stay because there is no reason for me to leave because the price is getting higher than before and it makes the bitcoin mining profitable ;D. Also, if you think that bitcoin is not profitable on mining anymore you can try many cryptocurrency like ETH to mine. It's just my opinion :).

I will choose core rather than classic. Even though the new mining cores could not suffice in the long run but it will make bitcoin transaction fast. Cores can operate in full nodes with lesser power and maintenance. Cores are preparation for what will happen to bitcoin, though bitcoins future is unsecure but we must not just be lax like the classic supporters does. We need change and wee need cores for the future of bitcoin.

Sorry, i'm not into bitcoin mining or development but, i have this to say, what is the issue about CORE or CLASSIC why can't they unite (stay to grow and support) the vision of bitcoin instead of some group causing division that might lead to the fall of bitcoin.

☞Final Note : if, bitcoin fail both CORE & Classic groups will fail as well. ;D ;D

Thanks

Btc has a huge future that I can see, you obviously have to know that businesses are going to start using BTC as it is growing big time and people see it as an opportunity for their business whether big or small can grow with BTC.

You should honestly stay to watch BTC grow to huge heights.

You really have to stay because it's going to really just keep going up and up because with the halving you'll see that the supply will be cut in half so the demand will go up at an alarming rate and from there you'll see that you can make some major money through it.

The more people we have in the system the more that btc is going to go up because if everyone sells at the halving process then we wont have many people that will actually make anything because people think that btc price is going to sink when the halving happens when in reality it wont go down at all because supply and demand DEMANDS that btc goes up.

You could say that but you also have to think of the fact that you're just staying with btc in hopes that it will go up, btc most likely will because there arent as many risks to take when the halving happens and not as many btc will be in circulation. Supply goes down demand goes up simple as that people just follow as we say and take your money and save it into something that will help you later.

Well man no matter what, I think I will stay. I have been here so ill stay till I see the end of it. That's what I think.

That's the right thing to do, as this is not the right time to leave, we are now close to halving, if we have to leave then we can do it after halving, but not at this stage.

Someone understands it.

It matters quite a lot if you can see the bigger picture.

Well man no matter what, I think I will stay. I have been here so ill stay till I see the end of it. That's what I think.

So in the case that a Bank or government ever manages to 'takeover' Bitcoin with their own controversial HF, then the right thing to do is stay? Stop with this ignorant bullshit.

Most of these 'I'm staying no matter what' bullshit posts are just spam (there are too many to quote). If you had even put any real thought in the situation you'd never have such a simplistic opinion about it. Of course it matters whether Bitcoin is subject to political coercion or not.

I am going to decide that I am going to stay for a little longer because I am still making some money with Bitcoin. I feel no reason to leave because it is still going good with Bitcoin.
Only if there are signs that say it will be better to leave Bitcoin right now then I will leave.

Supporting the technology primarily ( I support most new technologies that are worth supporting )

If the development teams working on the technology are headed in the right way, then bonus I guess. Otherwise someone will pick up where they left off after no one supports it anymore and will right the wrongs and get it on the proper path.

I would say its more on developers for me... I feel familiar with them lol.
Anyway a strange pool indeed, the first one of its type, really original :)

I will stay because we can see that the price is continue rising and it's helping miners to don't leave/shutdown their mining rigs. IMO if the price is continue rising, mining would still profitable and the miners will don't have a problem to leave their poll.

Yeah and after staying for so long if we prefer to leave at this stage then that is the most stupidest thing to do, as few hours left for halving now, better to stay till then.

As long as bitcoin can keep its price and user base i will stay with it till the end no matter if it's core or classic.  As long as we are moving forward and gaining more new users then i don't see a problem.  Its good having competition between them anyway or else one side might get lazy and not bother to update or make fixes.

If the development is good enough for them, its good enough for me. so I'm staying no matter what happen. Its not just btc that I'm here after all.

I will stay no matter whatever happens. I think almost 80% of the people on this forum will opt for staying decision.
We wish the development to be good for everyone.

Exactly staying with bitcoin forever is the right choice, as at a moment price has started rise and it will be much higher in future which will allow us to make huge profits from it.

If I am to decide, I will choose to stay because of the potential I see in bitcoins. But, it would be best if you will also venture into other digital currencies, like ethereum maybe because of the great future some experts prediction that the amount of ethereum will soar high in the near future. Stay but do not limit yourself into bitcoins only.

Which side will win obviously matter, but now fortunately, it has been proven that Core will never be surpassed, good for everyone's interest.
Since I've only just begun I will chill out and grab a drink lol just have that in mind when you use btc, you will be happy that you kept along with the journey BTC is growing and so is the community so we'll all have fun through the ride.

I think we should have patience and should stay with bitcoin longer, as bitcoin will be more popular in future and it will also take price of bitcoin to a higher level.

I'll stay too, with the price of bitcoin going up it's worth the wait.  I remember it was about $430 when I started.

I don't think that anyone would be in loss at this stage as price is higher in compare to last year, so people who bought last year have already made some profits, and if you want to make more than wait for a while.

for any reasons i wont leave bitcoin because price fluctuation is the nature of bitcoin, once it drops and we suffer some loss means the more we can gain next time when price increases.

I will stay in any case, like ordinary person without some big knowledge about programming I see there isn't big deference between clasic and core expect in block size. Maybe there is some other little things but this is like main.
I'm sure developers will make perfect solution for everyone, I know there is some argue about it for now, but I don't see some big problems in that. There will be always difficult questions and heavy answers, that is life. We don't need to make big drama every time when we see some problems. We will always have "some kind" of problems, and we will always have smart peopleto solve it. I don't worry about this thing.

Yes and this the best time to collect as many coins as possible as price is not too high at a moment, so collecting now and selling in future is the best strategy to follow.

With me it all depends on the price of the Bitcoin if the price is going to be stable for to long I might just leave because I really have not intention to wait for a long time.
But if the price is changing more often I will stay without a doubt.

If you will leave at this stage then you will surely regret as halving is on its way and if you can hold your coins till that time than you can make good profits by selling at that time.

Yeah this not the the time to quit, hold your coins for next few months and sell when the price goes higher and that is the best thing to do I guess.

Its the time to hold rather than quitting. Right now there is no risk in your earning as no work is involved. Only you hold for few more months and quit. You may get some additional earning because of halving.
I am going to stay because at the moment there is no reason for me to be leaving, I can still make money if that is not possible anymore then I am going to leave.
Leaving without any reason is not a smart thing because you are going to miss out some chances.

I really don't have an idea what the changes will be if the original core changes, but i really don't care i guess. It seems most of the people will stay or don't care like me. Not surprised. Those geek conversations are not interesting to most of us. Make it simple, will we lose money or not...? Otherwise, i don't care. :)

It really depends if the winning coin still serves my purpose or not. If it no longer does, then I will leave.

Exactly this. So for my case, if a bigblock bitcoin clone would succeed in destroying decentralization, privacy and/or fungibility, the ensueing "Bitcoin" will not be the Bitcoin I once chose to support. So in that case I will sell the few coins I have and leave.

Luckily, regardless of the massive propaganda and smear campaigns lead by the government and bank loving bigblock-fanatics Andresen, Hearn and Ver, the sanity and intelligence of Core developers has prevailed over the irresponsible and outright dangerous incompetence of the proponents of the XT, Classic and Unlimited-Altcoins.

So hopefully most of the bigblock trolls will leave soon and that the quality of discussion in this forum will improve again.

A majority of things gain value over time, unless it is a car or fiat money of course. It is always best to make more and do more the earlier you can, because it means you'll have more value than another person overall who starts later than you. If you want evidence of this, just look at account values on this forum. A well-aged account can net around $100, along with a lot more earning potential, while a newbie or member account is regarded as common or "meh" in value.
