A lot of people feel very strongly about the support for the different sides to the debate. Core vs Classic. We saw some people leaving the scene when Mike Hearn did his XT tantrum when he left to go work with the competition. I was just wondering, if people will do the same thing, if either Core or Classic failed? Does your support for Bitcoin, rely purely on the developers who work on it, or do you support the technology. Let's put this to a poll. Once again, this poll will not be a true reflection of anything, due to sock puppets on this forum etc... Let's just poll the group to see how they feel about this.

How would one determine whether his side lost? Say if Classic got 75% and successfully forked, the Core could still stick around and try to take the "power" back when Classic's model proves to be faulty. The same other way around, Classic can fail to get 75% now, but could get there later on when people are disappointed with Core's model.
The ride never ends. Learn to love it.

Bitcoin can be only one. All the rest are altcoins. The approch Mike had - to leave - was not good neither for Bitcoin, neither for him (imho).
I understand that this involves much more politics than a dev would like, but leaving is usually not the best way to fight for your views.
I'd say stay and make your point of view stong and loudly heard. But whether that will be the direction taken or not, stay.
I agree. Try to learn to love the ride.

It is a hope of a large number of bitcoin users that it will get success sooner in the coming future. So I also have a faith that it will be established in the future in all over the world and will sooner become a global currency.

I definitely wouldn't automatically stay. Devs on both sides have zero experience of economics and them trying to tinker without taking that into account, or worse, thinking they know something about it, could send it to hell.
If there's one thing this thing has in spades it's the naivety and greed of the people involved. I don't believe most of these guys have enough long term vision and I'd walk if it was looking bad.

i am not gonna leave bitcoin just because one side won. as long as bitcoin is alive and still being used either for trading or small shopping i will continue to use bitcoin and support it anyway i can.
and i don't think the situation is so black and white, it is not going to be win or lose there should be a consensus or it's not gonna work out for either sides.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip. Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

This depends on what exactly happens after a controversial HF is activated. However, since Classic is moving away from the "just Core with a 2 MB block size limit" model and adding some undesirable "features" it is more likely that I'd abandon Bitcoin. The approch Mike had - to leave - was not good neither for Bitcoin, neither for him (imho). I understand that this involves much more politics than a dev would like, but leaving is usually not the best way to fight for your views.
It was always about politics. The people behind the controversial HF's aren't what I'd call 'excellent developers' anymore. It is a hope of a large number of bitcoin users that it will get success sooner in the coming future.
Mostly because they're greedy (hoping that the price will go up).

i am a bitcoin core supporter, but let's pretend bitcoin classic takes over, then i will continue to stay as i believe in the future of bitcoin. the only negative point i see is when bitcoin classic indeed wins the battle (which i don't think will happen), then a certain group can stand up and create bitcoin ultimate for example, to take over classic. and i'm sure that it will happen. it will be group against group. and at the end the only loser will be bitcoin.

I am a normal bitcoin user and I do not have any special support to any side. So what I care for is to keep btc alive, whether side win in this debate, I would continue using it

I voted for it does not matter what side wins. Why? For me this is a religious question. I want to see Bitcoin to be successfull. If all people would have this in mind we would not have such a tricky situation.

it depends! if bitcoin takes a hit because of the change and major developers leave and give the development of bitcoin to some few that lead it to ruins i would not stay because i don't want to watch something i liked die.

I'm uncertain as to which position is more stupid: 1) Not knowing (ignorance); 2) Not caring (disinterested). I'm leaning more towards your position. What do you think is going to happen if you let Bitcoin be taken over by a small group of inexperienced developers being backed by a corporation (Coinbase)? Take a wild guess. Because it doesn't matter what side wins as long as Bitcoin develops further... Can't really do that without real developers and engineers. the only negative point i see is when bitcoin classic indeed wins the battle (which i don't think will happen), then a certain group can stand up and create bitcoin ultimate for example, to take over classic.
That's definitely not the only point because:

It doesn't really matter to me personally, as long as the impact on the price isn't drastic.

leaving this would be just admitting a failure, i'm going to see how it will resolve in the end, i'm sure it will be sorted out in some way
and bitcoin it's not about a central figure, i'm staying with the decentralized nature of it, so if dev abandon the ship other dev will emerge, devs counts nothing here they are just coders
don't give importance to them because by the time you do so, you're thinking about a centralized system....

Should you stay or leave? It depends on when you entered bitcoin world, if you have waited long then you should stay as staying can be profitable in future.

Classic has a good team? This must be a terrible joke. >failure of bitcoins [sic] reason for existence What does that even mean?
You'd know if you had joined for the right reasons. It depends on when you entered bitcoin world, if you have waited long then you should stay as staying can be profitable in future.
So you're only here because of (potential) profit?

Does it really matter and does there have to be a winner i have heard it said that lots of different competing node types would be healthy for bitcoin.
