After several months of testing and optimization we are finally at the last chapter of the 'beta phase', ready to venture into the real world with IOTA's novel technology. However before we can do that there is one last phase of the beta test that is required.

Final beta stages commences now!

Due to so many awaiting a Graphical UI before claiming rather than claiming via the barebone Nostalgia UI we must have 2 stages for the GUI testing.

In stage 1, which will last until next Thursday, only CLAIMING will be enabled. This stage 1 period is required to get as many as possible to claim their iotas automatically before we drop this legacy code in order to make IOTA 2-3x more efficient, after which claiming will no longer be possible automatically from GUI. Instead for those who haven’t claimed yet by then will just have to contact me and provide your seed so I can verify that you are the rightful owner and send your iotas to your address. To all of those who will be claiming your iotas in the following days, in order to save yourself and all of IOTA time, please donate a % to the foundation right away (you will be asked how much you’d like to donate in the GUI when claiming).

In stage 2, which begins on Thursday next week, we will drop the old legacy code, upgrade the IOTA network and everyone will be able to freely send/receive as much as they want on mainnet leading up to launch. This means finalizing pending trades (use escrow!), testing out the network and finishing the IOTA Foundation donations.

So the github says that in this release you can generate address. But when I go to "receive" and "generate address", it keeps generating.. How long is it supposed to take to generate an address? Or is that not working?

It is working. It depends on your hw - e.g. mine took 2mins with i7 cpu

It needs POW for generation, that's why it's CPU intensive

In your case did the "generating address" part disappear? For me its still generating address but if I look in history and click 'addresses' then it shows something there and 25/06 in big numbers. But the receive section still says "generating address" and its been at least 10 minutes.

Founder of the project here, a few people have understandably been a bit confused about this issue.

Like already mentioned in this thread: we had no premine, every IOTA founder and developer had to buy the iotas on an identically equal level as every other buyer. The reason for this is that we as a company are focusing on developing the hardware processor for Internet-of-Things and IOTA is a require software for this vision we have, but our responsibility as a company ends on July 11 when we deliver the software. From then on it's up to the community to maintain it, as founders we are of course going to be 100% involved as leaders of the project still, but then as community members in open source software, not as a company.

Therefore the foundation initiative is there to continue building IOTA's momentum and adoption as a tech standard, which got very little to do with software development. This is why the foundation needs resources, as it's a brand new organization altogether with a completely separate and different task from R&Ding the software itself.

It's also worth noting that 500 000 dollars, while impressive as a crowdfund, is not A LOT of money in the big picture when it comes to developing revolutionary technology, plus we are a legally registered company in Norway, meaning we as everyone else had to pay a big portion of that directly in taxes. For some perspective: Ethereum raised 18.4 million dollars and had a 17% premine, and even they struggled and accept donations. So we had like 1/50th of Ethereum from start. That's why a separate foundation requires funds after launch.

at usually generating an address is going in less 1 min, but at first I have to sync with network! It could take few hours.

I closed and reopened and regenerated the address and it did.

It generated the address and had the QR code, after that I closed my wallet and re-ran it, now in the Receive section the QR code / address isn't there but the I can still see it in history. Is this a bug or is that how its supposed to behave? The Receive section only has the "generate address button" not the QR / address anymore after restarting.

I asked in chat and CFB said thats how it is supposed to be. I think this is bad design:

1. This means Receive section is only for generating new address, it doesn't 'display' address after restarting. And there is no QR code visible after closing
2. The "History" section is only place you see the address it should technically be in receive.

Now sending IOTAs is disable but on the second stage will open. (have a look on first post)

you can receive to one address just ones after you must generate new address - this is security reason, not a bad design.

each transaction requires another address? By the way I see 2 addresses in my history. How can we know if an address is useable or not? I mean how do I know if the first address which generated in my history is usable for transaction?

If you are not sure just make another new address for new transaction

v0.9.23 IMPROVEMENTS TO GUI BETA

This version improves upon the previous one by fixing some of the bugs and making the overall process of installing and claiming smoother.

Opening server folder no longer results in crash.
Opening links in menu no longer results in crash on some systems.
Server log is shown in initialization alert dialog.
Initialization alert dialog adds option to download java 64 bit if the user has a 64 bit system, but has only 32-bit java installed.
Better failure handling of java downloading.
Remove whtiespace automatically from server nodes list, as well as make sure all entries are unique.
If there was en error in the config file, resulting in initialization alert dialog, a button is shown to view the config file on your computer.
If Java arguments are deleted from the initialization alert dialog, make sure that they stay deleted. (Bug)
rebroadcast button added to the UI.
32 and 64-bit windows are now combined in a single installer.

Probably the IOTA wallet application was design for windows 64bit only.

for those who are not familiar with the concept, there is a more detailed step by step guide:

go to your old account (the one with all your iotas in it from the ICO
then generate 1 address (still zero balance ofcourse) Wait for the status to get somewhere near 20 / 2917 (at the moment) and the balance of 3,8 Ti would appear (max)
close the wallet
start the wallet
enter new password of your own choise, never tell it to anyone. This is how you create a new account
generate an adress
copy that adress
close the wallet
open wallet enter old password
Go to send: paste the adress of the new wallet and transfer 3,8 Ti
generate new adress and repeat the whole process

Is it mandatory to transfer your IOTA from old account to new account even if you don't have any or zero transactions (tx) previously?

If you have not made any transactions during the testing, it is not in a hurry, but as I understood it is recommended.

*All*​ it requires from you as an IOTA user is to have the GUI running and sharing your IP to other users. It requires zero technical knowledge and does not consume a lot of bandwidth or CPU power. In fact EVERYONE should actually easily be a node if they care about IOTA.

We set Exchange date at 19th of July because that's the expiration date of establishment/not-establishment of the IOTA Foundation. But at this moment we might have to move that back because we can't risk the network having a sudden surge in tx/s without more nodes available.

So if you want full launch ASAP, be a node

When will this coin be on exchanges? I remember dev update said it would be listed on exchanges on 25th, but now still no exchange.  What's wrong?

Those who have not yet got their iotas in manual claim, follow these 3 steps:


1) Send your old seed, the one you made when you first claimed your iota ownership, to contact@iotatoken.com Don’t worry, this seed is no longer tied to your iotas so there are no security concerns.

2) Make a new seed and then make back-ups of it so that you are 100% sure that you will be able to access it. After that generate an address in the GUI. Generate several addresses if you got more than 3.8 Ti and send the address(es) in the same mail.

IOTA is not any coin, it isnt a coin anyway, its designed for the IOT (Internet of Things) especially for M2M  (Machine to Machine), since now there is nothing out there which could solve all challenges to make IOT true. A lot of big companys tried to find a solution to make transfers secure and fast for IOT, none of all them had been succesfull, now with a truely innovating Transaction solution called Tangel and invented by cfb, we will approaching the IOT.

Its the first of its kind. We see here a true revolution in Cryptohistory!.

IOTA is not a trading coin to transfer value (like BTC), its a project to make IOT services come true in the future. And a lot of people are exited about iotas development and his impact in the economy.

People still DONT GET IT, iota is not a shitcoin or any other serious good crypto 1.0 or 2.0 project,  its a blockchainless 3.0 project for the IOT Sector, and its a true new Invention in this field!!!

I am very interesting about IOTA, but what I am wondering is why IOTA is here relatively not very popular..
I have told about IOTA to people at bitcoin forum in my domestic country but no one was interested in :(

Please do not treat what I write as spam or like FUD, because I am really interested about IOTA but have not many time to research all the subject myself. I just want to know what to tell about IOTA to attract more people, so we could take part in it..

Beside I think you could update OP - I think on the top should be informations what IOTA is, what are its adventages and how is it work..
Maybe everything is already written here but it's little unclear for me, so my maybe not wise questions...

IOTA spawned from the grassroot efforts of the activists and developers in the cryptospace, but was never meant to stay here. IOTA was always meant to blossom as a technology in the Internet-of-Things sector. Currently we are working with several very, very large companies on Proof-of-Concepts that utilize IOTA for payments between machines and data integrity. This is our focus. Another reason is that we have withheld promotion and exchange listing in favour of focusing on getting the network working properly and loose ends tied up. That being said we have been covered in International Business Times, Forbes, Cointelegraph, TheMerkle etc. but it's first now that we are soon ready to unleash IOTA into the bigger world and you will read about it often.
