Bitcoin is totally under the control of about 6 Chinese miners.  The only reason they put all other miners out of business is because they have no morals and steal electricity.  Now, all mining and control of the Bitcoin protocol is in the hands of these immoral bastards.

The Chinese have been known to have an extensive hardware farming industry so this is just one more thing that will stimulate this economy like with every other.

take bitmain. at a cost of only a couple hundred dollars to make a rig but retailing it at $1,500.. ever customer they have is literally giving bitmain a couple rigs to run FOR FREE.

customer buys a rig @$1500.. bitmain can make 5 rigs for that. or 3 rigs and have $600 spare in their pocket.
so they hand one rig to the customer.. and then bitmain run their 2 remaining 'free' rigs themselves and have $600 spare to cover electric for both of those rigs for ~8 months

so even if some hobbiest is stealing electric. it still cost them $1500 for the rig.. which real farms (antpool) dont have any upfront costs. so no worries

the reason america charge upto 10cents a kwh and UK charge upto 20p/kwh is due to added tax and corporate profits.
but to get to the point is costs less than 3cents to make electric so china charging 5cents is not 'subsidised'

if they were to buy dirty oil at lets say 600kwh production. the price of sour oil is alot cheaper than the $42 average. which still brings the price per kwh as being ~3cent (below the 5cent retail)

big farms like btcc are definitely not using solar/renewables.  Solar has not yet reached grid parity ANYWHERE under any circumstance.  That is all a dreamers wish. 

The only farm to use renewable was KnC (geothermal).  They went totally broke doing that because it was expensive energy.  They said upon their exit "We've done the maths, even the Chinese farms will be unprofitable" (that is actually true that they said this).  The thing KnC wasn't considering is that the Chinese weren't buying electricity at any price, they were stealing it. 

Saudi Arabia doesn't do shit.  Just a bunch of fucking camel's wandering about the desert.  Some weird guys in tents.  About 300 princes wrecking Mercedes by drifting them around is about the only energy waste going on there.  Why do you hate the Saudi's so much?

I felt disappointed though when I saw a video of a fcuikn large bitcoin mine in China. When I first heard about bitcoin and that it was being mined using computing power, I was under the impression that anyone can do it, like everyone's a small scale miner.

Well, that's how thing are with anything, they got cheap hardware there. If they're stealing electricity to run their operations though, they must be shut down. It's not just an environmental issue for me. Unless your country is using green electricity (or maybe you charge everything via solar power) each use of electricity hurts the planet anyway. It's a question of decency. If you steal electricity, someone's gotta pay for it. You may get rich but you're still a criminal and there's no fun in that.

Those huge amount of power were wasted by mining bitcoin, they should be used to do something much more useful. Satoshi when inventing this was like creating a game, he would not expect it like this today.

Satoshi used FPGAs (arguably less energy efficient) early on to find a large quantity of blocks.

The issue isn't so much the electricity, or the effective monopoly they have over there with the mining equipment, or the laggy GFC.. its the utter dishonesty displayed by the majority of the players over there. Mining each others headers (Antpool, F2pool, BW, BTCC, VIABTC all do it), submitting empty blocks, block withholding (particularly antpool), scavenging to include only the tx's with the best fees. It's actually embarrassing for most, but they don't care, its a living for them.

Yeah on creation none could have thought of the electricity consumption. Now though the electricity charges were high, the value generated from each coin is much higher. If planned such electricity expenses too can be minimized by the large scale miners.

Man, I could not have said it better myself.  The US is flooded with counterfeit everything from China.  The coin market is especially bad--they make some damn convincing counterfeits.  It baffles me that nothing is done, but that's so far out of my hands it isn't funny.  I'm not concerned in the least about China's involvement with bitcoin.  I think it's a good thing, and those stories of miners stealing electricity...anyone could do that.  Many people do it.  Theft isn't peculiar to China by any means.

Who cares as long as the Chinese pump the price of BTC then all is good. Our planet is already in a point where the damage is already so huge, there is no way to save it. I think some of the Chinese products are better than any other I've found. Considering how cheap they are they are definitely more useable. Chinese LED lighting in all forms are better and so are non electronic items like stuffed animals, baseball caps and clothes. I helped my kid order a batch of 500 baseball caps with SF Giants printed on them from a Chinese manufacturer at $1.75 each. They looked good and had good stitching. Sure they were a little lighter than some caps but he sold them on third street in front of AT&T park for $20 each when every other stand was getting $25-$40. He made almost $9k in three weeks and put it down on a new car.

Yes they are already mining other altcoins aside from bitcoin. China has again increased their mining farms and power soon they will rule the mining industry of altcoins. And if ever cryptocurrency will take over fiat currency then it is already an established fact that China will be at the top of the cryptocurrency economy. There is no stopping China as of this moment.

There is no stopping them from dominating Proof of Work Coins.

However Proof of Stake coins are a level playing field, they have no advantages there.

Maybe I don't get something but how can people steal electricity? Do you mean having some free electricity, because of having miners in some national property institutions? We have something like that in my country sometimes. But China is fine, I guess. Yes, they have most of miners now but does it really mean they control bitcoin? I'd say they rather potentially control it, because they can stop mining suddenly and it will effect bitcoin price. However, maybe they sell the mined btc to smb else after mining, so thus they are not getting more and more control at least.

I remember there was one mine that was shut down for stealing electricity. Stealing utilities is also quite common in other developing countries like the one I live in so other countries aside from China may be doing this. Or maybe he could be referring to how cheap electricity is in China compared to other industrialized nations.

Mining bitcoin is very profitable in china which explains why they have a largest share of hash power, because of how electricity is cheap in china , people are able to make profit out of mining bitcoin.

I study about energy and I know that in china they build a coal reactor every month ,so they can provide the electricity needs for the whole population.

put it this way an asic in asia pays $225 electric per ASIC for 6 months.
in america its about $450

meaning only a couple hundred dollars difference spread over 6 months.

the real cost however is the ASIC itself.
because america doesnt make an asic they have to shell out $1500 per rig.
however it costs asia to make a rig just a couple hundred. so when they sell the rigs to americans. the asians can make many rigs. one to give america a couple to keep themselves and still some fiat spare to pay the electric for them couple rigs that cost them nothing thanks to the american consumer.

thus its pre profit for asia to mine. all because they make the rigs.. not due to electric costs

Huh. I never thought of it that way. Buy 1 rig for $200, sell it for $2500, buy 12 rigs, sell for 18,000. Start up your farm and let the profits roll in! You just had to put up $200 of your own money.

Obviously it's not that simple but still. If their hardware is cheaper to buy there then obviously they'll want to make good profits when selling to Americans or Europeans.

This  looks so racist and would possibly offend them but I have to say this also, China has an imbalance way of thinking they are trapped between culture and modernization.
