Title: Are you a bagholder? Which altcoins do you hold?
Post by: Abiky on February 24, 2017, 06:10:36 PM
In crypto land, there are a variety of cryptocurrencies to choose from, since the inception of Bitcoin. Many of them provide innovative ways for us to transact in our daily lives.

Some have advanced features and higher transaction throughtput than Bitcoin, and others are just cloned from BTC's codebase.

While the majority of altcoins are pump and dump, there are very few of them which are worth holding.

That is to say, we sometimes end up holding the bag when an specific altcoin massively declines in price.

Nevertheless, I would like to know if you are a bagholder of altcoins, and which of them do you hold into your wallet?

As for me, I hold plenty of altcoins like Casinocoin, Virtacoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash, Ethereum, Ambercoin, LiteDoge, Tekcoin, Stratis, MonetaryUnit, Teslacoin, and many more (the list is extensive) Due to the many altcoins I hold for a pretty long time, I consider myself as a bagholder.

What about you?  ::)

wow. i've hardly heard of most of those coins. the only bag i hold is quark from ages and ages ago. i never got around to getting rid of it. i never let an alt linger for long. hanging around is not what they're for.

are those coins of yours in proper wallets or sitting on exchanges?

Most the coins that I hold are on their respective wallets, with a few being stored on paper wallets for cold storage. Usually, I get to store alts such as ETH, LTC, and DASH on paper wallet since they are the top cryptocurrencies in market cap ratings. I hope that someday I would become rich by having my investments spread out among different altcoins.

Lately, I've invested into Hodlcoin and locked up my coins for 1 year to see how much I would earn in interest earnings.  ::)

i think i am a bagholder and i have many list of altcoin in my wallet because when i buy the coins, the rate is low but after bitcoin gets increase, many of altcoin is decrease and i can't sold it so i am hold it in my wallet until altcoin can increase again. i am sure that altcoin will be increase too like bitcoin price, the only thing that i can do is only hold it until i see the altcoin is up like before with the new price.

being bagholder usually means you are holding a bag of something worthless after it was dumped, if that is what you mean then I never hold any of these coins. I will always dump them on top and in case I missed or miscalculated things, I will dump with a small loss rather than letting it become big.

if you mean something else then I hold a couple of altcoins at the moment, and they are Monero and Ethereum. I have also been investing in litecoin in the dips for a short time in order to catch the pump because of its segwit.

I started buying lisk I think it will be worth it, but I began to collect Byteball, it is very cheap and all I get on the faucet invest in Byteball so it's not exactly a great value investment

I'm long holding XMR, MAID, FCT, GAME, SC and WAVES. Some other coins are also in the wallets, so I do not have temptation to sell them. Just from my experience - it is much profitable to hold coin long than do day trading. You can make more profits.

not really bagholding anything but i have some small amount of some coins here and there, just in case you know, stuff like atomic coin which has a nice pos but has a bad algo which i don't like(Scrypt) and some lbry in case it shot high again, everything else was dumped especially now that bitcoin is very high and altcoin are suffering

Im bagholding coins that are only on little exchanges with small volume, and have not yet been really dicovered in markets. I bet on most potent coins that has good chance to get on big exchanges with whales and regular pumps.

Usually I dont collect altcoins much because I am not interested in them. Few months back I used to collect dogecoins. But I left that. Now I have plans to collect some monero by mining using minergate and mrai coins claiming from the faucet. Just now I downloaded its wallet. Some are saying that its value will increase in the coming months.

I always stick with 4 alts and only 4,  more simple , less confusing; better returns

Currently a bag-holder of two altcoins only:

-Monero (XMR)
-ZCash (ZEC)

Waiting for their good pumps to sell them, and then be the bagholder of ZClassic.

Are cryptocurrency enthusiasts retarded?

Extremely gullible and overly idealistic (perhaps they watched too much Star Trek?), else they wouldn't think that government could totally disappear within 1 generation (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1798356.msg17982872#msg17982872).

The Dash marketing is quite impressive:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1804521.msg17983070#msg17983070
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1796575.msg17975908#msg17975908

As for some of the shitcoins mentioned in this thread, clearly the speculators will buy any idealistic bullshit. The more idealistic nonsense it is, the more likely they will buy it. For example WeTrust is more idealistic bullshit (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1803849.msg17981989#msg17981989) without any realistic adoption case.

As for both WeTrust and especially HumanIQ, there are all these new ICOs coming out for smart contracts running on Ethereum which want to target milllions and billions of users adoption. But Ethereum can't scale!

Besides Ethereum can't scale. So anything built on Ethereum can't scale. Casper is fundamentally flawed and will never work.

Also putting large financial value into smart contracts has proven to be very insecure with the DAO attack. The more we proliferate these smart contracts, the more the attack surface grows. In HumanIQ's case, the founder and leader Alex Forte apparently isn't even a programmer.

Other shitcoin bag holder cases are where speculators didn't understand the issues in the combined disciplines of math, economics, and technology, such as HODLcoin.

I know many altcoins that can do very well if there is a good demand and supply for this altcoins and they include Litecoin, Monero, Dash, UR, VC and STX. I hold Litecoin, Dogecoin, VC and now I'm trying to invest in Augmentors and RES too. I don't hold more than 2000 coins of any altcoin as they may be dumped anytime.

I had actually invested in many altcoins before but recently I found out that most of them are just dead coins and I was barely getting any profit.
For now I only hold xmr as it has given me pretty good returns till now. I was holding eth from a year and finally sold everything at a profit of 4$ each coin.

actually, because of the bagholders altcoin became popular, which is also a big help to bitcoin too. Since every time they put a sell wall in the trading platform once its being sold will automatically will place at your bitcoin balance. For me I hold many altcoins such as, XMR, WBB, XEM, WAVES, MAID, ETH, PUTIN, ICOBID, VTY, CHESS, and others.

This has been one of the altcoins at first that gathered my attention. But nowadays, it is very expensive and hard to get grasp at least 1 GBYTE. Still, I think that up to this point it is great to consider investing into, since it may rise even more in price as time goes by.  :)

I had actually invested in many altcoins before but recently I found out that most of them are just dead coins and I was barely getting any profit.

Yeah. Crypto land is full of pump and dump altcoins with no promising development nor innovation. Some are good to make some profit, but most will leave you holding the bag when they experience a sharp decline in price. That is why, I think that those altcoins which are good for long term investing are mostly classic coins like Litecoin, and high marketcap ones like Ethereum, Monero, and Dash.

Nevertheless, even though I'm holding a vast majority of altcoins, most of them come up from faucets so I wouldn't be loosing that much when they turn out to decrease in value.  ::)

Yeah me too. I thought that FAME was going to become the next big thing in crypto land, by helping cryptocurrencies reach mainstream adoption with the use of photo sharing. Everything seemed promising, until the developer abandoned this great project. Maybe someday, our Famecoin would be worth a fortune once it gets the attention it deserves, among traders, investors, and perhaps a new development team to take the lead.

Nevertheless, while I hold many altcoins which turn out to become worthless, I try to safe keep them for the future in case their prices start to rise.  ::)

i am trading altcoins on poloniex the coins be traded are ETH, dash, xmr and ETC of course with different method
because the coins has different movement of price.

Thanks for sharing the coins that you currently hold. I usually like to hold many altcoins, and trade those which are pump and dump, making me a nice profit in a short amount of time. While their prices are unpredictable, I try to invest a very minimal amount into them to test out new strategies on the exchanges per their price movement (with pumps and dumps).

There are many shitcoins I hold which are good for profiting in pumps and dumps, but there are also good coins that I hold which will aim to survive as years go by like Ethereum, Litecoin, and Monero.

The recent Dash trend in price, has made me a good amount of profit, so I have benefited from holding it. Nevertheless, if only there was a way to get rid of coins which don't have market support or active development, then it would be great. But up until now, I guess that it would be up to baghold those altcoins. Just my thoughts.  ;D

I don't holding so many coins would actually make any sort of sense as most of the coins you are holding have very less chance of an increase in price so it most likely after few months you will be in huge loss plus managing of so many coins is also another headache.
But currently I hold a few eth and monero. Btc is of course.

Yeah most of my holdings won't go anywhere for sure, but since I earned most of them via faucets, I've got nothing to lose. My real investments are into Ethereum, Dash, Litecoin, Monero and Ethereum Classic. Perhaps, one day when some of the altcoins I hold, pumps in price, I would have the opportunity to make a substantial amount of profit, but until them I would just stick with the previously mentioned coins for the long term.

Glad to see that you're holding Monero too. Personally, I see it as a better anon coin than ZCash due to the fact that it enforces anonymity with its ring signatures. I hope that more darknet markets would accept XMR, to help increase traction in the exchanges, making it the most valuable anon coin around.  ::)

DOGE and BCN are very cheap, and while having much of them gives you little to no value, they're quite fun for tipping and micropayments. Transaction speeds are way faster for Bitcoin, so these alts make it ideal for everyday payments. They could be of great use towards helping spread mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies. Just my thoughts.  ;D

holding--icobid,litecoin,and a small bounty of eth,and still waiting for my taskie bounty..... probably these will be the only altcoins with some real potential growth. Other alts i own are dead nobody even speculates of them about any future pumps or dumps.

Agree Doge is great for typing stuff and have overall fun with it.
Great to give children for playing with it Such fun currency

Yes. Dogecoin would make it the perfect choice for children to get into cryptocurrency, due to it being extremely inexpensive. Having games that pay in DOGE, as well as social platforms that would employ DOGE micropayments, would attract children and people of all ages who are new into cryptocurrency. This meme coin is such an ideal cryptocurrency for experimenting with it, as you won't lose much due to its cheap nature.

I'm holding doge and millions of bunnycoins.  :P

It is nice to collect these coins in a paper wallet for the future, as they're fun and very ideal for tipping due to their cheap price. These days, DOGE has been depreciating in value, making it a good choice for anyone to buy in and start using the cryptocurrency. Just my thoughts.  :)

I don't have money to invest in popular expensive altcoins and I don't see any use of investing in coins worth a couple of cents, because they are likely just to die. I hold only some ethereum for now, because I really believe in this coin's great future.
I have a question for those who invest in coins woth nearly nothing now: how do you choose in which to invest as there are plenty of them? Do you really read about the code's possibilities and stuff? Or is it a random choice and you hope to win like in a lottery?

So it will be better to focus on both of these as if I will choose for a coin to invest in I will need to study more and more about a number of coins so that I invest in a coin which have a potential to increase more higher in value and will not leave its community in the mid.

I think no, I am not a bagholder but I am just looking for profit from trading altcoins,
I am not hold in trading altcoins if I was wrong made analysis technical and the markets against my positions.
I always stop lost because it will make more losing money in trading altcoins,
i am trading altcoins on poloniex the coins be traded are ETH, dash, xmr and ETC of course with different method
because the coins has different movement of price.

Just my thoughts.  ;D
Yes you are right, many shitcoin out there usually I just choose altcoins that had  survived on the markets
for long time ago, I don't trade in new altcoins it is dangerous for me because will be traped in there,
I always choose altcoins from http://coinmarketcap.com/ for ref.

You can still buy it with small fractions. Me, i bought DASH for about .016 btc and the price of DASH was .05 a piece. Luckily, i earn a small profit. I earned .005 btc and its feels really good. Next time i will buy ETH. ETH is doing fine right now. I already bought few XRP and NXC too. This may take days to pump since people are focusing on DASH right now.

On Dash you need a critical amount to participate in the Masternodes game. This is either a good example of customer conversion or a bad one because newbies no more get triggered to engage there. Entry barrier can kill a coin.

I don't holding so many coins would actually make any sort of sense as most of the coins you are holding have very less chance of an increase in price so it most likely after few months you will be in huge loss plus managing of so many coins is also another headache.
But currently I hold a few eth and monero. Btc is of course.

hahah, I think you do not really understand about the altcoin. because if you did already know and understand all the altcoin that you are, then I'm sure you would never say such things. for there are some altcoin are indeed provide a good profit as Eth, LTC, etc. So I hope you speak the right way.Because if you do not speak according to the fact (true), then certainly you are just someone who often lie or you may do it to hit a target in the Forum

for now I have accumulated only 2, but I will not buy them, they are not expensive
This is purely that they are in my wallet

You should have added some hint/pointer on where to get them, and conditions. Since I am mostly on Poloniex (most active Trollbox) there is no Zcash Classic listed even, that leaves me a bit reluctant to fetch some.
Any chance of the infamous "polo effect" kicking in ?

It's just a fact that even if you refuse to hold them, and sell, they are not gone out of existance. Somebody picked them up from your sale offer. Reconsider your strategy ... of course every market bubbles up now and then, and you are missing your chance to sell at a good value.
Steady continual rise seems impossible inside the wild west segment of altcoins, the dillution exceeds the people's purchasing capacitie. Maybe "only Bitcoin" suits your demands, it is the better fit.

Currently I'm holding monero and I can see that it has a good progress and it's now on the number#4 spot on the coinmarketcap.

I don't have plans on selling it right now, I'm waiting for more pump and it looks like ETF rejection gave the chance for traders to buy some more.

And that's why it is pumping.

Zcash, Eth, Decred and Monero is my choice, too bad I don't have enough hashrate to become richie rich, but I am definitely getting some sweet ROI.

I'd like to believe the 5~15 most price/volume altcoins will grow in price in months and years to come.

Yeah. The more Dash's value increases, the more difficult it will be for anyone to enter in the masternodes area. It is becoming more expensive to set up your own masternode, and I believe that if no change is made on the protocol level to reduce the minimum amount of Dash for a masternode, then the cryptocurrency will become more centralized. They should make a dynamic Dash fee required for masternodes to keep up with the USD price, instead of relying on a fixed amount.

But in the bright side, Dash has been performing well with promising features like InstantX and PrivateSend, making it ideal for everyday transactions. Other altcoins like Ethereum, have increased in price as well, in which it seems that investors are turning their attention towards altcoins these days.

Nevertheless, I hope that the recent price increase on altcoins would not be a result of a pump or a bubble, and it could maintain as is during the year. In the meantime, I will continue to hold the top 5 most prominent cryptocurrencies in the market. So far, I have achieved great results with Dash and Ethereum, making my investment worthwhile.  :)

What about you?  ::)
Actually all this depend upon our experience that we have got from our past trading life .
Earlier I was buying and invested my money/BTC in that altcoins which was more famous between the friends but usually most of the times I got only loss .
But after a long study in the altcoins market made me knowlegeful that which altcoins will suit for me .
Usually I hold the Pak coin , blry , Putin and echhi new but gave me big profit of 230% .

For some strange reason, always thrills me to see people talk about DOGE the way they do. I do have coins in a handful of alts, but none of them are more than even $10 in value (I did have a full ETH a while ago but converted it to BTC) except for my faithful DOGE. The value's more or less stayed the same over the last 6 months, since I keep topping it up. Shibe forever, they say.

wow. i've hardly heard of most of those coins. the only bag i hold is quark from ages and ages ago. i never got around to getting rid of it. i never let an alt linger for long. hanging around is not what they're for.

are those coins of yours in proper wallets or sitting on exchanges?

Most the coins that I hold are on their respective wallets, with a few being stored on paper wallets for cold storage. Usually, I get to store alts such as ETH, LTC, and DASH on paper wallet since they are the top cryptocurrencies in market cap ratings. I hope that someday I would become rich by having my investments spread out among different altcoins.

Lately, I've invested into Hodlcoin and locked up my coins for 1 year to see how much I would earn in interest earnings.  ::)

Dash and ethereum offers good way to double your money as current price already higher than last week, pretty awesome increase.
I'm not a bagholder which I just hold bitcoin and byteball, this coin sit on first and third place after dash which ethereum keep chasing byteball price. Well, I somewhat regret didn't buy Dash and ethereum in the first place but it worth to invest.

I don't really have a passion of collecting various altcoins as I cannot just download all their wallets and I never trust in those online wallets. Though been that said, I have some altcoins with me right now like around 100 USD in worth overall which are distributed among Ethereum, dogecoins and a bit of litecoins. None other I seem to believe :(

About masternode shares, I think there is a site called Masternode.me which allows you to buy shares of a masternode, and receive dividends out of it. The idea is great, but in my case, I would prefer to own a full masternode and receive full earnings.

Dash has increased up to $100 in price, and I believe that it will continue to rise if it aims to deliver constant development and promising features. Right now, it has a block size of 2MB which is greater than Bitcoin's block size limit, allowing it to expand even further.

At the same turn in the crypto currency world. The other is ByteBall. I have hopes on both of them and may get good profit in future.  :)

Yes. It has been one of the cryptocurrencies that has been increasing in price ever since launch. I think that ByteBall is unique and has a lot of potential for growth. But its success will only depend on the usability it would have in the mainstream world, as well as being able to deliver innovation and constant development. I wish that GBYTE would've been cheaper, for me to buy in. It is becoming more expensive each day, making it harder to get at least 1 full ByteBall. Still, if it won't go lower than current prices, I will consider to buy portions of it until I reach 1 full coin.

Yeah monero is the choice for money people as it's main focus is privacy and there are guys who believe that monero is the future of crypto ( of course after bitcoins ) I have in past collected some chunks of monero and even profited with them.

But right now the only coin that I am holding is Iconomi and that too I don't know what to do with, it is just like a mistake I invested with them.
Anyways monero is good yeah, any similar coin you can suggest mate which may rise significantly in coming days ?

In my opinion, Monero is one of the best privacy preserving cryptocurrencies on the market. It is one of the coins that should be ahead of DASH in marketcap, as its anonymity features are stronger than DASH. Not to mention, it has been adopted by some major darknet markets, making its potential to rise in price even higher.

Right now, thanks to XMR and Dash's recent uptrend in price, I have made quite some good profit, and seeing the latest interest into privacy preserving cryptocurrencies, people will invest more into these coins as they realize that Bitcoin is not completely anonymous.

Nevertheless, for coins that would be worth holding this year, those would be DASH, Monero, and Ethereum due to their constant uptrend in price. Just my opinion.  ;D

XAUR and Doge are no longer profitable coin.  It is waste of time and money on bagging that two coin.  Only ETH and XMR are the best to hold until the end.  They are the counterpart of bitcoin in my opinion

Personally I'm not a bagholder of any coin. But also IMO it's pretty risky anyway. You better diversify your investments and stick with multiple but smallers holdings in different coins.

I'm holding just Monero and Ethereum and plan to long term.  As of now Ive made almost 5x my initial investment from just buying early and holding.  But I'm sure the prices will fall back down a bit, so who knows it just might be time to sell a bit of my stash.

Although this is the only ones I hold, there are many I'm interested in such as, Ripple, Bytecoin, Tether, Golem, Edgeless, Waves, Ardor, Augur, Factom, Lisk, Zcash, Potcoin, Nxt, MaidSafeCoin, and maybe a few others.  But I would maybe buy one or two out of that list, but most likely will just stick with what I got.

Sometimes I think that it should sell everything for BTC

Because just stand in my wallet and do not do anything with them.
I primarily mean of DOGE and BCN, have them a lot but do not have some value

DOGE and BCN are very cheap, and while having much of them gives you little to no value, they're quite fun for tipping and micropayments. Transaction speeds are way faster for Bitcoin, so these alts make it ideal for everyday payments. They could be of great use towards helping spread mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies. Just my thoughts.  ;D
I agree doge literally sends as fast as paypal but i basically think it is of no use as it just like a why should i make payments with dogecoin when there is no change in price at all. I remember i planned for buying an item for 100$ which was some 0.08 but i was tired so i decided to buy next day and the pirce increased overnight i guess i ended up buying at 0.067 or something. Just using dogecoin would be useless as it is irreversible and it is really risky

In terms of long term holding, I preferred NEM/XEM which I started buying and hold it last year without even looking at it's price while on the progress. They have a slow progress in terms of price but I see that this coin will shake the world of exchanges soon.

Recently the price gained for almost 200% - 400% after being downed for the range of 400-600 sats for about half a year. Really a good progress for those bagholders. But even with that rise, I just watched it since it's all about HODL. 8)

What about you?  ::)
Wow that is a long list, besides bitcoin the only other coin that I hold is Monero,  it is the only one I believe has potential, I know there are other great coins, but to me the potential of Monero is the greatest and that is why I hold some.

I own about 5+ different tokens and for 4 of them, i'll wait a decent pump then exit. Only eth has backed up potential to moon.
That tragically sounds like someone who has given up on all BTC mooning promises. And ETH beeing still in an experimental state, besides BTC proven rock solid!

About masternode shares, I think there is a site called Masternode.me which allows you to buy shares of a masternode, and receive dividends out of it. The idea is great, but in my case, I would prefer to own a full masternode and receive full earnings.

The itchy part is about true ownership. How do you "secure" the ownership of a node partition? Falling for a ponzi lures around that corner, too. People selling shares of a node that does not even exist.

Similar to cloud mining. I once owned mining contracts on Poloniex. They had been free tradeable. Poloniex still exists. Those MNS1 (??) shares are gone, I sold before things went south. Payouts would have never ROI'ed anyways.

I prefer holding multiple tokens to focusing on one and wait it to pump, recently, Ether, Dash, and Monero generated huge profits for their bagholders, some new potential coins will do the same. I think Ether and Monero believers got big profit in short time compared with other type of investments. The crypto world is getting wider and there are good opportunities, currently, I hold ICN and Time.

Not a bag holder of any at the moment, but I do own some small amounts of a couple of altcoin.
But I do want to be a bag holder of at least 5 small alts, for the main reason OP stated of course.
Just evaluating my options at the moment though.

XAUR and Doge are no longer profitable coin.  It is waste of time and money on bagging that two coin.  Only ETH and XMR are the best to hold until the end.  They are the counterpart of bitcoin in my opinion

Agree. Both XAUR and DOGE are only meant to be used for quick transactions, but not as a store of value nor as a means for long term investing. As for ETH and XMR, they have been performing quite well with prices reaching all time highs (especially ETH). If you're considering holding good alts, then that would be the top 5 cryptocurrencies like ETH, DASH, XMR and ETC.

These last ones are very ideal for long term investing, as they have a constant uptrend in price. Still, if you're bagholding a wide list of altcoins, I'd recommend you to get rid of most of them, to keep your list short and be able to manage them easily. Having too much altcoins can be troublesome, especially having to setup wallets for every one of them. Just my thoughts.  :)

I hold some DASH, but I'm really sweating it at the moment... not looking real good for us who bought at these levels :-/.

Thank god I hold some Clamcoins to hedge with my Bitcoins, so my DASH loss don't be so bad, but I could still see DASH being worth 10 for 1 Bitcoin.

Hodling DASH would require any amount size that qualifies for running a master node. I think there's 45% of the network's revenue accumulating. I would not buy X.Y DASH merely in the hope of a pump, placing them on a shelf to collect dust.

Im not a bag holder that holds a lot of alts but i do have some coins which are stored on wallets not small enough though but still consider as decent. I have ETH,XMR, XAUR and some DOGE too but im not expecting too much on those alts thats why i decide to hold up as long as i can and sell off if i see the price is just fine for me to gain profits.

XAUR and Doge are no longer profitable coin.  It is waste of time and money on bagging that two coin.  Only ETH and XMR are the best to hold until the end.  They are the counterpart of bitcoin in my opinion
I already observed that thing too but i wont decide to sell those coins on cheaper prices and i would choose to hold up and forget about it and might someday i would be shocked when price do rise (hopefully :) ) but i still didnt expect too much on those coins but as long they are on my posession selling would not be on this time.

The problem is you cannot predict when a pump is going to  happen and that is why it is better to invest before the pump that way you get to ride the whole wave and earn even more because of it, if you wait you could lose your chance to earn with a coin.

Yes. Most altcoins are highly volatile, making it hard to predict when a pump is going to occur. Sometimes, when you think that a pump is going to happen, you being to massively invest into an altcoin, later giving you unexpected results as the coin declines in price.

There are some pump groups which take a specific coin to pump it in price at any point in time, but be aware that making profit here is not guaranteed and you could lose more than what you have initially invested.

Nevertheless, always stay safe, and when choosing an altcoin to invest, make your own research about the dev team involved, its community and other things to ensure that you will make the right decision when putting your money into it. Just my thoughts.   ;D

This is exactly what I do. Here is a good example. Let's say you "win" with your investment and make 7 wins and 3loses if you use the same amount each time you will profit. If you only pick one and its the losing one then you lose as if you had lost all 10 times.

Currently a bag-holder of two altcoins only:

-Monero (XMR)
-ZCash (ZEC)

Waiting for their good pumps to sell them, and then be the bagholder of ZClassic.

those coins are going to be useless by the next years to come all because of the new coins with better anon features, unload your burdens and dump th0se shits before someone dumps the first.i bag some of them back then but i see the future believe me i'm from china.

Yeah. As most anon coins are full of hype, they will eventually be replaced by another anon coin with better features. If you look at Dash, it has been experiencing frequent price uptrends, but I believe that this is a result of hype since there are better anon coins, in my own opinion, like Monero which enforces anonymity via ring signatures.

That is why, most of these altcoins are just pure speculation, and cannot be considered for long term investments. If you want to stay safe, just stick with Bitcoin and good old Litecoin, which has been stable in price during its time in the markets.

Thanks to BTC's price devaluation because of the scaling debate, I could buy in cheap coins, before prices rebounded back to their previous levels. It's a win-win for those who invest early into the pioneer cryptocurrency. Just sharing my thoughts.  :)

I haven't read or heard these coins though I'm planning to hold and buy another coin. Because right now I've got XMR, ETH and DASH which are popular coins. I want to try out those who are not familiar with many but does have a chance to pump, I don't want those pump and dump coins, I want that has a very well road map.
Actually the big thing that I get experienced in my life with the altcoin trading is that , it is not a matter that which coin you hold for the trading and profit , matter is that at which condition and time you made buy this or hold this .
Usually I hold those altcoins which are at very low price and wait for 1-2 months became 200-300% increase in the price .
Usually I hold Putin , edrc , sib , eth ( not now ) , waves , Pak , dgb etc .
From these altcoins many times I multiplied my bitcoin about 2 to 3 times 8)

This is really a good thing that never buy those altcoins or coin which are get pumped at high peak .
Here we can take a simple example that dash and ETH , the people are going to attract toward these two altcoins more and more but they are not thinking that they can't make a big Profit after buy at the high price .
Well here I bought less famouse altcoins and hold it for long time , the Reason to buy less famouse altcoins is because they have big difference in the buying and and selling orders .
Usually I bought pxi , tax , edrc , 1337 ( my bad luck) , edr currently it became ROM coin  , Ponzi . These gaves me better profit for me in trading life .

I am not a holder, I do day trading but if I ever felt like holding a coin for long term it needs to have a great team and a community behind it at a very early stage so that I can know it will only go up.
For example, radium seems to be doing that now, the price has been volatile lately but I feel like on the long term it will go up one day and will make a lot of early investors a lot of Money.

I'm getting ready to invest in #minexcoin in 46 days. Supposedly they are trying to solve volatility issue using mechanism borrowed from fiat currency.

I saw their site recently, and so far it looks promising. Hopefully, this would be another ICO full of opportunities for early investors, but I would advise to quickly sell some of your tokens to secure your profits, just in case everything fails.

If worth it, then it would be great to hold onto for the long term, otherwise it would be another altcoin or token.

As for me, I'm willing to hold onto those coins which are between the top 10 in marketcap, and have constant development and support from their communities.

For the coins that you're bagholding, you can burn them and receive Barr in exchange. Although, I'm not sure if this asset is still supported, it would be great if it does, to help encourage users to get rid of their altcoin holdings which have been constantly dumped. Just my opinion. ;D

There is not really too much of a point if you buy coins that are near their max prices since it becomes too difficult to obtain profits and too easy to miscalculate and lose money as there is very little margin for you to win, that is why I tis better to invest in coins that are devalued.

Well, most altcoins out there are just pure speculation and hype, leaving only a few with true development and innovation. Since Ripple is centralized, it is prone to be manipulated by its members to their desired price levels.

Being an inflationary digital asset, it should turn out to become less valuable over time, making current price levels fall out shortly.

Regardless of that, there are only a few good coins that are worth holding onto, but some become abandoned by its own developer and community, making you hold the bag with worthless coins. If you were to hold good promising altcoins, those would be the top 10 in market cap, especially those with an established foundation and development team like ZCash and Ethereum. Just sharing my thoughts.  ;D

I do believe it will go up and not selling on loss but it may take a while before it goes back up again. Aside from that I have some eth that went down but not too much to consider bag, I can even sell right now and it wouldn’t be a big loss.

As well as you, I used to have many coins relying on exchanges, which were prone to decrease in value over time. I had to handle many wallets, and they were a hassle considering that I had to sync each of them on my computer, taking a lot of my time. There were times where I had to wait a lot for sync to complete, just to sell that coin when its price was pumped.

Nevertheless, while I still hold many altcoins, I try to limit the number of coins I hold to avoid hassles in setting and maintaining wallets. I prefer to hold onto promising coins with good development team, that will survive for the long term. ETH, DASH, XMR and ETC are good enough for me.  ::)

Yes. Since Litecoin has signaled most its hashrate towards approving SegWit, we could expect for its prices to increase even further. It could become the third largest cryptocurrency in marketcap, it the scalable solution becomes active as traders and investors would move on to the alternative cryptocurrency which would have better capacity than Bitcoin itself.

That is why that I believe that it may survive for the long term, and may be worth holding. ByteBall is another great cryptocurrency that could be held onto your wallet, but price hasn't increased that much. It is always best to invest the minimum amount possible, to minimize your risks with the volatile price movements of any cryptocurrency to play safe. Just my opinion.  :)

My holdings change pretty frequently, but the one exception where I'm a bagholder in for the longterm is ICONOMI.

I'm holding those ICN for at least 24 months.

for now i holding bitsend and nexus..
this coin very good future, because it has a great vision and mission

I haven't read or heard these coins though I'm planning to hold and buy another coin. Because right now I've got XMR, ETH and DASH which are popular coins. I want to try out those who are not familiar with many but does have a chance to pump, I don't want those pump and dump coins, I want that has a very well road map.
I think we all want the same but if you really want that then you really need to put into some work and see if any of the coins has known developers that have developed another coins successfully or if the project solves an issue that currently exists.

Why!! What's wrong in holding altcoins. If you see the price of bitcoin is super stable currently as most investors are driven towards altcoins as they have less market cap and pumping would be way easier. If you are a bag holder who knows maybe the next pump is the coin you are holding.

The problem with holding alts, is that most of them disappear and then you are forever holding it since no one will buy since they have no value, that is why it is dangerous to hold for a long time, there are very few alts worth holding in substantial amounts.

It has never reached the price I bought it, hopefully it will go higher soon, I need like at least 50% rise in price to make it worthwhile for keeping this long.

Sometimes when you invest in an altcoin, you don't get the results you've expected, thus leaving you holding the bag when it plummets in value. The major factor, would be if the altcoin's supply is high, eventually causing inflation over the currency, making it lose value over time.

Speaking of Curecoin, this altcoin is great because it supports a better cause by contributing towards the advancement of medicine, and research for curing diseases, all with your mining hashrate. But I believe, it is very undervalued now, considering what the same provides.

Nevertheless, whichever altcoin you plan to invest into, try to get out of it as soon as possible, because if you wait longer, you might lose more than what was initially invested, when prices start to fall. Just my thoughts.  ;D

What about you?  ::)

Yeah, I can considered myself as one of the bag holders of different altcoins which I think potentials coins. So some of it like bitcoin I hold it for long term basis and some are for a short period of time.

Glad to know that you're bag holding coins too. When you're holding altcoins, they're usually for a short period of time, since most of them tend to decline in price as time goes by, except for some alts which increase in value over time due to their constant development and innovation like Ethereum.

Still, if you're considering a cryptocurrency for the long term, that would be Bitcoin itself since it's rare and has a deflationary model which makes it increase in value over time.

I'm not sure what alts are you into, but I would recommend that you hold into the most prominent ones, to secure your investments for the future. Just my thoughts. ;D

Hi read through some good comments above. It does seem to make sense to hold onto the most popular one's and hope they go up in value over time. For me its all about spreading the risk, so the less well know coins do have a lot of potential but can be risky and as others have said they can become worthless fairly quickly. It's bitcoin, ethereum, zcash and litecoin for me at the moment.

Dah, that's not a bag holding ::). Bag-holders are traders who bought some altcoins at a price, couldn't sell them at a higher price, and crossing fingers (waiting with hope and wishing luck) that the price would pump so that they can sell with profits, which, in my opinion, is a very newbie mistake in trading – if you can't sell that coin after a day or two at a higher price than purchased, then you should sell it and minimize your losses.

On topic, I was a bag holder of some shitty unknown coins when I first started trading on YoShit, but now I got experience enough to know when to buy and when to sell.

I think that is a mistake that we all make at the beginning of our trading careers because at the time you don’t have the experience to cut your losses and move on to other coins.

Not a bad strategy for altcoins, mate. It is always advised to get out of them as soon as you reach profit, as most of these coins are full of hype, and will tend to decrease in value over time. I guess that only those that could provide strong development and support from their communities, would be worth holding, especially coins which are in the top 5 rankings in market cap.

Both Bitcoin and Ethereum have strong development teams, and solid communities, making them one of those cryptocurrencies worth holding into the long term. While many altcoins might fall over time, these mentioned cryptocurrencies might coexist in the future. Just my thoughts.  ;D

I recently re-organized my portfolio. I try to spread the risk, but when I truly believe in a coin / dev team / idea, I am willing to spend some more. Currently, it looks like this:

- LKK Lykke (the mobile apps are very well done, the roadmap looks very promising https://trello.com/b/IV0PH2gs/lykke-roadmap and the team is engaged af, plus not on exchanges yet)
- DCT Decent (one of my earliest investments, cannot wait for the mainnet launch. Even though the team is not very well in marketing here at bitcointalk, their appearances and presentations on events are very promising)
- IOTA (strong community and use case, until now very undervalued, very excited what happens when it get on exchanges)
- TIME
- KMD
- INCNT
- MLN
- WAVES
- XEM
- EDG
- PART (sigh..)
- "The Token Fund"
- Some hack.ether investments I hope will pay off eventually (but possibly wont): Coindash DST, Artcoin ART and Etherisc RSC

Not a bad list of coins you're holding there, mate. Since they're among the top 10 cryptocurrencies in market cap, they will be supported in trading volume and activity for years to come. Many of these coins, have great development too which may help them survive in the long term.

Look at both ETH and ZEC, which have an established foundation and a dedicated development team to help them advance in security, usability, and innovation for years to come.

Still, while they are great coins, remember to never invest what you can't afford to lose, as cryptocurrencies are highly volatile.

You can also hold PoS coins, although most of the times, you would be left holding the bag when the dev abandons the coin. Just my thoughts.  ;D

NEM (XEM)  2,249,850 coins give or take.

No reason to sell.. it's going to hit 800 million in the next 2 weeks.   It will be a solid number 4 behind Ethereum and Ripple within a month.

Also kraken and poloniex are taking forever to do step 3, verify driver's license.. so until they stop dragging their feet I'm not going to start trading my stash. It took coinbase all of 2 minutes.  I'm brushing up on cryptos after a couple of years idle, getting my computer secured with malware scans and the like, locking down the browser, getting the 2 factor authentication backed up in my safe deposit box, adding some paper wallets to my lastpass, and getting ready to enjoy the evolution of cryptos and the newfound interest that is ongoing.

Expanse is really a great altcoin for me.

Yeah. Expanse is one of the best Ethereum clones out there, with many unique features. It has been able to remain intact when the ETH split occurred, surviving replay attacks. One the things that I really admire about EXP, is its development team and community.

In addition, it has features that are quite interesting such as the Expanse Bonds System. I believe that it is truly unique and shows that the cryptocurrency aims for innovation. Still, I wonder why it's undervalued, considering that both ETH and ETC have higher price and market cap, being the original codebase for Expanse.

Nevertheless, the list of altcoins which are worth investing and holding, is extensive, making it a troublesome way to set up a bunch of wallets for all your coin holdings. Only stay with a considerable number of altcoins invested, to avoid this hassle. Just sharing my thoughts.  ;D

The most disappointing thing about altcoins, is when they get abandoned by its developer and community. Then, you would be left holding the bag since the altcoin(s) that you're holding would lack trading volume, and most of the times, lack of established markets for it. That is why, it is always best to look out for cryptocurrencies that have an active development team, a solid community, and innovation to prevent losing all your investments in the future.

I see Waves, Lisk, Stratis, Decred, and Dash as altcoins with huge potential. They will change the world of cryptocurrencies for the better. Just my opinion.  :)

Not a bad list of coins you're holding, mate. Among that list, I would choose PIVX as the most prominent altcoin, since it brings innovative features, and a solid development team, not to mention that it has privacy in mind.

Every coin that gets listed on Poloniex, gains some traction in trading volume and activity, since it's an exchange where big traders and investors rely on.

Nevertheless, it is always best to take the necessary precautions with any altcoin, as there could exist the possibility of the dev abandoning the coin, making you a bagholder when no exchanges trade the same. Just my opinion.  :)

All these tokens that are popping up strike me as having no inherit value. The idea I'm going to buy a piece of rainforest or something using a token and actually have the company keep up their end of the bargain and not take the money and run strikes me as being a bit naive. If investing in an ICO, it better be a real blockchain...   Yeah I'll still take the airdrops when they're offered though, I'm a hypocrite like that. :)   I'm skeptical of the whole ethereum based tokens app platform... I'd rather invest in a coin more currency focused, which is why I'm simply holding XEM.

There is no more badgeholding for me, I collect all sorts of coins and when the price rises slightly then I sell for BTC and then via debit card.
So I can spend and buy something for them, so I just watch how the price grows and falls and I have use of it

Yes, thats the best approach for short term traders or those who do not have lots of funds to trade. Getting small profits out trading on daily or weekly basis is the best option even for me also.

Yeah. Most of the newly released altcoins have a period where they become hyped, but as time passes by, they decrease in price. There have been many ICOs, yet only a few have delivered as promised and remained solid on the markets upon launch.

That is why, in my own opinion, most of these tokens are just pure speculation, rather than serving as serious investment tools, or as a usable financial ecosystem. One of the things that I like about NEM is the delegated harvesting feature, which allows you to "stake" your holdings without leaving your wallet open at all times. There are many other features that make NEM a great cryptocurrency, which may be the reason that it is number 4 in marketcap right now.

Nevertheless, you should always be careful when investing in ICOs and selecting your token of choice. There are many scams out there waiting to take out your money, if you're not aware. So make a research about a specific cryptocurrency or token to play safe. Just my opinion.  :)

I am currently not holding any of altcoins.
But I plan to buy & hold waves and edgeless in coming weeks.
MY alternatives I look for are: Factom (feels bit safer), Footballcoin (interesting project), Monero (I still feel it should be lot bigger)

Most of these coins have huge potential and could increase in price before you know it. That is why it is good to buy and hold them for the long term as you'll never know when a massive spike comes in, leaving you with a constant stream of profits.

As for me, I'm glad that I've bought in Stratis when it was cheap in its early days. All those months holding STRAT has left me with a good amount of profit nowadays.

Nevertheless, while there are many good alts out there which are worth holding, it is always best to limit your portfolio to a few coins as it will be much easier to handle. Just my opinion.  :)

I have realized that day trading alts sucks. At least for me.. It is best to hold for medium term, say 3 to 6 months and see the gains for yourself. I recommend looking at Singular DTV (SNGLS), vdice (VSL) and TaaS. More updates are coming up soon and these tokens can rise in value.

Well, day trading takes a lot of effort and patience to help get the desired results. Not always you will earn profit from doing this, but when it works you can use the strategies learned to your own advantage.

I will take your advice for holding some altcoins in the medium term and see how it goes. The tokens you've mentioned have great potential towards becoming something huge in the cryptocurrency world. I'm mostly inclined towards TaaS, as it gives an ideal model of a decentralized organization, where shareholders (or token holders) benefit from holding the token. It may become profitable if it turns out to become successful.

Nevertheless, I'm looking forward for more altcoins to baghold, especially those that are new into crypto land.  :)

Not bad, mate. The list of coins you're holding are one of the most prominent ones on the market. Especially Ethereum which turned out to become worth from around $14 last year to $200 in just a few months. It has increased exponentially in value within a short time, making it a profitable journey for those who have invested into it earlier.

It's a good idea to quickly sell the coins you've mentioned, when they rise in value to secure your profits. As altcoins are not ideal for long term investment, they serve their purpose well for quick trades and speculation.

As for me, I'm trying to get rid of some old coins I've been bagholding and looking for new cryptocurrencies on the scene to put my money into. The new ones would be held within a short period of time until they rise in price exponentially for me to secure my profits.  :)

My philosophy (and I guess I'm not the only one) is that you can only really profit in this market if you're an holder.

The less movements you make, the more you profit

Yeah. If you hold on tight to the most prominent cryptocurrencies on the market, you could surely profit as prices start to rise following Bitcoin's market movement. I, myself have held onto many altcoins which were never thought that they would rise in value. It is today, and I've already tripled my initial investments by selling most of the altcoins I've held into my wallets for the long term, and will continue to buy more.

Nevertheless, while you're bagholding altcoins, it is always good to look out for newly released coins and take advantage of it by buying them now and selling them later when it gains enough traction on the markets. Just my thoughts.  ;D

I totally agree .. The simplest and hardest is to buy and especially to have a lot of patience ... and this is the hardest .. 8)

But before that, you have to invest smartly on cheap altcoins, and promising!

And after waiting, and sell some of the altcoins to do the same again with new altcoins ..

And history repeats itself! ;)

Yeah. If you just repeat the process of buying low and selling high, especially in the highly volatile markets for altcoins, you'll earn a decent amount of profit.

Sometimes alts take a little longer than expected to gain traction on the markets, but with good dedication and perseverance you can do almost anything. Usually, I like to baghold altcoins which have very low market cap, yet have enough daily trading volume. They are more susceptible to volatile price movements giving you the advantage to buy low and sell high.

Nevertheless, if you spend your BTC wisely on good and promising altcoins, you'll be able to double or triple your investment in the long term. Just my thoughts.  ;D

BTC is not altcoin.

ETH is probably the most well known altcoin and has potential to be better and better in the future. ICONOMI also has a potential considering right now the price is up to 70k satoshi right now.

Yeah. Ethereum is one of the most strongest altcoins in the market, being second only to Bitcoin. It has risen in price from nearly $15 to $230 in just a few months and I believe that it will continue to rise and become stronger than ever.

With this in mind, you could consider to invest into ETH for the long term and hold your balance until the right moment to sell and obtain profit. Also, Iconomi has been doing great in price, as well as other altcoins within the top 10 market cap ratings.

Dash has risen exponentially in price too from $12 to nearly $120 nowadays. It is also one of the most prominent cryptocurrencies worth investing into to preserve your profits in the future.

Nevertheless, the above cryptocurrencies are great to baghold just in case there's a massive price increase over the next months. You can also be on the hunt for new altcoins that might eventually become valuable in the long term. Just sharing my thoughts.  ;D
