Title: Coin of Midas :: Bitcoin Paid-to-Click
Post by: kingmidas on May 06, 2013, 11:36:29 AM
Hello!

For some time I was working on a so called "project".. well, I launched it yesterday :-)

It is a Paid-to-Click service that uses only Bitcoins.

Some things about the service:
  • Free registration
  • You can earn and advertise with the same account.
  • The advertisement window must be focused 30 seconds in order to earn Bitcoins
  • Referral system
  • And many more..

I will continue to add more great features, this is just the beginning of a great journey :-D

The URL is www.coinofmidas.com

I would like to hear your opinions, so feel free to post them here :-)

Regards,
King Midas

Site design, especially the header looks pretty nice! Might want to make a mobile version, or do a responsive redesign. I imagine trying to use this site on a mobile might be a bit of a pain.

Great site. I would recommend running a spell-checker one more time as I saw few misspelled words there.

Hmm.. I did some research and the conversion rate for mobile devices is pretty low. I will think about it but, right now there are other important things to be done :-D

I agree. I will check it right now :-)
I'm currently adding more background features, this is why I am not very involved in promoting it at a larger scale.

If you encounter any problems or bugs, please let me know.

LE: All members joined by now received a special Pioneer status. They will earn 50% more Bitcoins than a Standard member.

Site looks really good! Very professional design.

I'm wondering if you have paid any bitcoin out yet?
Can you provide any more information on the project?

I really hope this is a legit site which offers great services.
I will take a look later on and if I find any issues/bugs with site, I shall send you a private message.

Thanks for providing a great site which users can earn bitcoin :).

Exactly what research are you talking about? Mobile devices always bring a ton of eyeballs.
Are you planning on bringing your faucet back online? (I'm asking because I just launched one ;) )
Also about to try out your service, just waiting for the BTC to confirm which is going to take a while.

Your CPC is way higher than your competitors. For 0.01 BTC I am getting around 1000 uniques with 13% conversion. For your service I can't even get 50 uniques for the same price. I think you need to lower your CPC by a bunch.

Hello!

I wasn't kinda active lately.. I got a cold recently and a huge headache.. :(

ok.. let's start with the beginning :D

1.
Site looks good :)

Thank you, the design was also created almost from scratch by a friend of mine. I will let him know everyone likes it :D

2.
Cool! I signed up yesterday! Did I mention I will be putting your banner on my site?

Congrats! If you didn't got your Pioneer status yet, I will hand out more soon :D
You can use one of the banners from http://coinofmidas.com/banners.php
I think they are cute and you can get referrals with ease.

3.

Thanks! We still need to wait a while until there will be more advertisers. I will create some advertisements myself to help it grew :D
Sure I can provide any information just ask for it :)
I will create some tutorials and other similar stuff, where I will explain (or try to) how everything works. :D

A scam? Noooo... :(
Well.. this is a good reason why I created it from scratch. If I wanted to scam someone, would I spend lot of my time to create this? I think not :D

4.
Exactly what research are you talking about? Mobile devices always bring a ton of eyeballs.
Are you planning on bringing your faucet back online? (I'm asking because I just launched one Wink )
Also about to try out your service, just waiting for the BTC to confirm which is going to take a while.

About the research: yes, the mobile devices bring "a ton of eyeballs", but the conversion rate is usually smaller. Anyway, I didn't said I will not create a mobile version, I just don't have enough time to make it now because there are other important things to be done :D
Yes, I will bring back the faucets, they are around the top places on my to-do list.

5. Some more info for advertisers.
There are two kinds of clicks, validated (or paid) clicks and free clicks.
All clicks are initially free, the advertiser will not pay for those clicks. If the member who clicks on an advertisement verified his account and he stays of your page for 30 seconds (the countodown timer stops if the window/tab with your page is not focused) + other security checks the click will be validated.
The advertiser will pay only for those validated clicks. Free clicks are made be unverified members or unregistered members.
Let's have a look at the statistics of an advertisement.
Paid clicks: 25
Free clicks: 54 (paid clicks are not included here)
Total clicks: 79
The default CPC is 0.0003 BTC
Even the advertiser paid for only 25 clicks, he received a total of 79 clicks. This means the real cost per click (rCPC) is 0.00009494 BTC, which is much lower (a regular member earns more than the real Cost per Click of the advertiser, this is a win-win situation).
Those stats are available in "Advertisements list" section (only if you have any advertisements).

If you didn't checked the "Purchase clicks" page yet, please take a look and let my know how do you think about the prices. Ar they too high/low? Is it affordable for someone to advertise here? Does it worth to click on advertisements for only 0.0001 BTC (as a regular user)? I`m getting 20% from my referrals, cool!

I hope nobody will get mad on me because they won't see the changes instantly, but I am only one person and there are still lots of things to add. Hope you'll understand me :P

LE: you posted just before me, haha :)

I already asked above what people thinks about prices. I configured the prices + clicking income when a bitcoin was much much cheaper. At that moment, it was a good price. I also was considering lowering the prices. Thanks for the feedback :)

It should be at least 1,000 clicks per 0.01 BTC or 0.00001 CPC. Right now I have 0.01 BTC in my Midas account. I thought that would be the minimum amount to buy some ads, but it seems i need 0.015 to purchase 50 clicks. It's not worth adding the extra 0.005 BTC to my Midas amount, because at Bitvisitor that can buy me 500 clicks. When you lower the price to a competitive level, I'll buy some ads right away. Thanks!

hmm.. ok, I will do some calculations to get a good balance between advertiser's cost and clicking income :-)
There is a catch anyway... there are no such things as "Free clicks" on Bitvisitor. I just showed earlier a real example with real data. Even the initial CPC was 0.003 BTC, and there were bought only 25 clicks, the advertiser received more clicks at a lower CPC (79 clicks with a CPC of 0.00009494 BTC).

Also, free clicks are not made by mistake. If your account is not verified, you will see a red text warning you about this. Members must click a small bitcoin after they click on the advertisement box, as a security check. So the free clicks are as valuable as paid clicks, but from a reason or another, they were not validated :)

I should create some awareness of this feature, because I think it's great :)
What do you think about it?

Even if that is so its still 9 times more expensive than Bitvistor. CoinURL offers the same service and it looks like there rate is 90 times cheaper, but my account hasn't been confirmed yet so I can't speak for its success.

Here is a suggestion. How hard would it be for you to accept other coins as deposits? No current ad services have anything but Bitcoin.

Yes, it is still expensive. I will reduce the prices :)

It crossed my mind when I was working on the project to add other currencies too. But I can't tell anything for sure about this  :P

Update:

I decreased the prices. All the 'old' prices were divided by 10. Also, the clicking income is divided by 10.

This mean the default CPC is maximum 0.00003 BTC. By adding the bonus clicks you can pay as low as 0.00002 BTC per click.
If we add the free clicks (which you don't pay), you will get a much lower CPC.

The referral bonus is still 20% of the referrals' income. ;)

Cheers!

Hello!

Today I started a limited time offer (or LTO) for advertisers.

All click packs comes with a 100% click bonus. This means you will receive two times more clicks than you buy.
Or, you can say that all prices are halved :D

The members who bought clicks before the offer but did not used them yet will also receive double bonus clicks :-)

Great I'll give it a try.

Great, I added the bonus clicks to your account. You can create your advertisement. Please let me know if you encounter any problems.

The payout is so high, and the payment per click so low, that you need to click 2100 ads just to get ONE payout.

With 2 advertisements currently, this will take years. You've completely destroyed it for users, while making advertisers happy. The 0.0001 was low enough, even that would've taken MONTHS to get one payout.

You realize the service just started up right? Yesterday there were no ads at all. Today there are two. I don't know of a single service in the world that works perfectly after only running for a single day. Give it a week or two so there are some more ads and such.

The payment per click was 10 times higher, I changed it recently and I didn't managed to update the withdraw rules. The minimum withdraw amount will be also 10 times lower than now.

Right now nobody have enough coins to withdraw (even some users managed to click ads before the income was lowered) and I thought this could wait 2-3 days while I am working on some background "things". :D

The prices and the income will be modified in time in order to get the perfect balance between the advertisers and members satisfaction.
I think it's better to have more advertisements with a lower income than few (or none) advertisments with a higher income.

You can't create something perfect from the first try. You start something, receive feedback and then improve :D

Thank you for the feedback ;)

I lowered the minimum withdraw value to 0.002 BTC.

Where can I find detailed information about Bitcoin fees and how are they calculated?

I would like to minimize the fees and to decrease the minimum withdraw value even more.

It's possible to set the tx fee to 0 BTC, however this will cause VERY long times for confirmation. You can always use blockchain.info to set tx fees. The recommended for good confirmation speed is 0.0005 BTC for a tx fee, however even 1 satoshi is better than 0 BTC. Not that I recommend you do that, it's all up to preference ~

I was thinking of a tx fee of around 10% of the withdraw. This would be lower than the default tx fee of 0.0005 BTC, and higher than zero. It is possible to set what fee I want? This can be done only by using the blockchain.info wallet?

Thanks :)

It's easier to do it with the blockchain.info wallet to be honest.

Also, a tx fee of around 10% of the withdraw is a waste, if you're going to include a tx fee, make it 0.0005 or less. (although if the withdraw is <5 mBTC, I agree with the 10% thing).

There's no point tacking on a 0.2 BTC fee if someone withdraws 2 BTC, for instance.

Lol.

Oh, I think I didn't explained myself quite well...

I was talking about the miner fees. I want to decrease the miner txfee in order to remove the withdraw fee from the site :P

The minimum withdraw value is now 0.002 BTC, a tax of 0.0005 BTC is 25% of that value. I was thinking to pay only 0.0002 BTC txfee for a 0.002 BTC transaction. Of course the upper txfee limit will be 0.0005 BTC :)

Hello!

I would like to remember all users to read the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy.

I am asking this because someone is keep creating multiple accounts :D

Here is the thing: I created a very very nice anti-cheat system and I want everyone to understand how it works.

1. The anti-cheat system scans almost every single user action.
2. If something is not right, your account is marked as 'Multiple account' and you won't even notice. Everything will look exactly the same, but your account is marked.
3. You can still click on advertisements, you will still earn coins.
4. Advertisers will not pay for your clicks any more.
5. When you request a withdraw, you will get a message about your marked account and you will not be able to withdraw your coins. If you know you have only one account, we can do some investigations and if you are a correct user, we will unmark your account and you will receive your coins. But if we find incriminating evidence from our logs, we won't even reply to your email.

Don't try to cheat ;D

Hey there,

I really like your site. Simply because it is the ONLY ad-click site I have found so far that has good webdesign and does not look like made in the 90s by a hobbyist. Two thumbs up to your webdesigning friend.

So far I'm just a clicker, since I have nothing to advertise for. Since you asked: The reward per click is fine in my view. Once the site really kicks off and gets more ads going it will be another great place for making some free BTC.

What I also like is the quality of the advertised sites so far. They are actually usefull and not stupid gambling or scammer sites (like 90% of the stuff on bitvisitor). I hope this stays that way. So far it shows that a quality website lures in quality advertisers. Speaking again from the clicker's point of view: This is also the reason why I don't mind the forced 30 seconds viewing. Those sites were in fact interesting and I resided on them much longer than that 30 seconds.

Nice job with the site, the layout alone beats most of the Bitcoin sites out there. I was actually wondering when someone would create a PTC site that accepted Bitcoin.

There seems to be a small bug with the "earned xx BTC" message you get after viewing the advertisement. It reported I got 0.00002 BTC when I got 0.000015 BTC.

Yeah... As I was getting closer and closer to the final version of the site I was checking the forum everyday to know if it's correct to assume that my website is the first PTC website that uses only bitcoins.

Thanks for reporting this. The value was rounded to the 5th decimal ;D

I added a new feature. Banner advertising. If you find any bugs, let me know :)
Right now it costs 1 Satoshi / impression. The banners are picked randomly. Check it out ;)

Actually I'd like to add something:

Since you already have a small emphasize on being advertiser friendly: Maybe you'd like to rethink allowing clicking the same ads every day. Right now with so little advertisers aboard I almost feel bad that I am using up the clicks of sites that I do already know. Maybe limit it after the first 2 days so that you can rclick a site already visited only every other day and after another amount of clicks limit it to once per week. Just something to think about.

I just did that... by mistake  ;D

I worked on something and I commented the line of code which verified if the user already click an ad today. Guess what, a user clicked a total of 241 ads today...  ::)

If you click again and again on the same day, you already know the advertised website. Your curiosity is lower, and your visit will be considered gibberish traffic. If we want to have more advertisers and, of course, more ads, the traffic created by our users should have a good quality.

The invalid clicks made by the users who preferred to exploit the bug instead of reporting it will be removed. The user who noticed me about this bug received a one week Golden Membership :)

Next time you find a bug, report it instead of exploit it :D

Yeah things like that happen, when coding. I know that all too well. But I don't know if I made myself clear: The intedned way of the site to work is that I can click the ads once every day. Regardless of how often I already clicked that very same ad on the days before. For me as a clicker that's just great. But I imagine for an advertiser it's kind of unsatisfying to know that a percentage of the clicks he bought will be used up by the same person. And that's where my aforementioned ideas would kick in to reduce that percentage.

I would like to report one. It's just a typo actually.
In the Ads section, there's a text that starts: “After your clicked is validated [...]”. This should be: “After your click is validated [...]”.

You made yourself clear, I was thinking about something else.. my bad :)

I was thinking about this when I created the current system. When we'll have enough advertisements, I will limit the maximum shown ads. This way I can rotate the ads from one day to another and users will find everyday other cool websites :D The rotation will not be the same for everyone and the advertisements will be shown evenly. :D

Thanks, I fixed it :) I usually type very fast and I have multiple ideas of what to write.. sometimes they combine and something bad comes out ;D

Hello!

Some of you already heard about this.. I've got some health problems and I am at the hospital since yesterday :-(
After lots of tests, they still don't know where is my problem, even I had a fever of 40° Celsius.

I don't know when I will be healthy again, until then I will do what I can to make sure the site works well.

Regards :-)

Hello!

I will finally get home tomorrow.. I had some complications and my health condition was very bad. I had 4 diagnostics and the worst of them was Meningitis. This is why I always had headaches when I was programming something. The doctor recommended one more week of recovery at home with no physical or intellectual effort.

After this week, I will start working on the website again, because I had a lot of time to think about more features :)

I hope my programming skills were not affected too :D

Cheers!

LE: Oh, I remembered.. the first thing I will work on will be lowering the minimum withdraw value and decreasing the user fee... hope those are good news for everyone :D

I have some bad news... I checked my bitcoin server and I found out that someone was stealing all the bitcoins deposited by the advertisers.
I will pay the members from my out wallet if necessary, but I can't figure out how. How did someone got access to my bitcoin server?

The further deposits will be processed manually until I figure out what went wrong and fix it.

PHP is ripe for XSS exploits, are you sure you sanitized all your data? Are you using jsonrpc or bitcoind to process requests?

No need to worry. I will make sure everyone gets paid, even if the bitcoins are from my personal wallet. The site is new and I don't want to be considered scam. I am still improving various things around the website. The withdraw page will be available soon, with a lower minimum withdraw and no fee, but manual verification and payout. :)

The graph shpwing the number of clicks over the last 7 days in the account section seems to be defunct since yesterday. I got credited for the clicks but the graph shows 0 clicks for yesterday and today. It's nothing big, but still it can be confusing for a moment if you don't check the balance.

I think the guy running coinofmidas.com has probably died or is in serious bad health.

I spoke to him several times via email many months ago but then the communication just stopped.

It is a very successful site that will likely make a fortune, I myself have over 1,000 direct referrals and I'm sure many other folks here have just as much referrals. That user database alone is worth a fortune.

Like several others here, I have contacted him via email offering to buy the site and running it myself, but to no avail. I see the potential of the site because me as a single user has referred 1k plus other users. I can only imagine how many bitcoin users he has in the database. Coinofmidas.com is a virtual goldmine to any business involved in bitcoin.

I really hope the guy is ok. He is from my adopted home country of Romania. We even talked about meeting up for a beer before communication went dead.

I hope he has not paid for a years hosting in advance and then snuffed it :)

So, yesterday I got an email from Coin Of Midas (http://www.coinofmidas.com/?r=DeslokDarkstar) saying that the site is back up and running. Checked it out and, sure enough, it's true.

I agree with the previous posters.... it was a really good site and it seems like it once again can be a good place to promote sites and ref links, but it doesn't seem like you earn Bitcoins directly in this new incarnation... rather, you earn "gold" and "silver" which can be used to pay for banners, ads and surf exchange sites. I would guess one can exchange the "gold and silver" for Bitcoin when you want to cash out, but I haven't seen how to do this yet.

At any rate, EFB.... you have 1000 direct referrals? Now might be a good time to get active on the site again and if you can contact your referrals, get them back in too.

As for kingmidas, I noticed he had logged into bitcointalk in late April, so I'd say he's not dead yet. :-D
