Let's not be assuming for us not to get hurt in the end. Many people say that Bitcoin will reach its value up to $5000 at the end of this year but it has no assurance. Let just be positive and hope that it will happen.  A ppsitive mind can create a positive outcome.

We do not have any grounds for believing it. Bitcoin is still undergoing the transformation process, its future still very dim. I'm worried it will lose value.

OP, it is still too early to say. I believe there will be another drama coming when the hard fork to 2mb block sizes will come nearer and nearer.

I'll give you some optimistic and positive energy. Yes possible that the price of bitcoin can go up $5,000 before Christmas or before New Year's eve. Just like what happened last year, $800-$1,000 and before the end of first quarter this year. The price soar up high $1,200 - $2,900 and now was stable at $2,500 - $2,600 a very positive movement.

Can you at least tell us why you think that will happen? :) or are you just making uneducated guesses?

On reaching $5000 though, I think it's very possible. And I think a huge factor of the end-of-the-year price would be how the scaling issues will go in the following months.

there are a couple of things in the future that will greatly affect bitcoin price:
1. Activation of SegWit:
this is a good news and what many people have been waiting for a long time now. it will move us forward with development and will be a positive thing about bitcoin price. a big rally is possible.

2. Hard fork to create the altcoin known as BCC:
this will cause some panic but eventually it is free money for many bitcoin holders which they will use to buy bitcoin with. in which case it can even help the rise of bitcoin.

3. the Hard fork of SegWit2x:
this can go both ways. and we can't talk about which way now. the miners are supporting this which is good but the developers don't support it which is bad. so if we can find a common middle ground it can help bitcoin move forward and we will finally put an end to the scaling debate with this. and the rally will get bigger.
but if the common ground is not found the issues will continue.

Oh I see but i guess there is yet no middle grounds because we hater to wait for the jew development to be fullfilled. Both were answers to the previous problems on transactions and fees but im sure there will be new problems to occur after the update. Even if this issues will continue I'm sure there are other solutions that could sprung up in time.

I'm not sure bitcoin prices will reach $ 5000 this year, but i think that could happen if seen from the popularity of bitcoin seen from now, no one knows it will happen or not later. Can only hope, hopefully the best will come to bitcoin enthusiasts and bitcoin will remain a very profitable digital currency for peoples.

These are just mere speculations with nothing to back it up and a further testimony that I can just sleep and wake and wish bitcoin price has risen to $10000 and boom it does not happen because its a mere wish which is not bound to happen and this is exactly what OP is doing. Anyone who is sure its going to happen should do something in his own capacity to push for it and wait for it to happen.

We can speculate. Upgrades goes well, transactions start to go lightning fast. People get excited and buy a lot. Then it goes to the news (again) and more people buy more... goes up and up and ...well we get to 5000  ;D

$5000 by December? I'd love to see that prediction be correct but I think it's a bit ambitious. I see $3500 as a realistic target by the end of the year, maybe.

It is very much possible now that price has still maintained a good value in spite it dropping to approx $2400 and recovering fast to trade over $2700  ahead of next weeks bitcoin fork. I honestly see the confidence the digital currency is receiving from the bitcoin community and we should anticipate more demand that will push the price higher maybe $5000 could happen before December.

I think it will definitely go up a lot after things calm down at the start of August then we can see steady rise towards the end of the year and $5000 is not unrealistic.

It could happen next month or even next week. That is less then 100% increase. If BTC start increasing as it was 3 months ago without any replacements, we will see $5k BTC really fast.

That's quite unpredictable right now due to undergoing evolution process of bitcoin. May its value decrease for sometime but there's a possibility that its value may shoot up in next few months.

It's pointless to speculate based on if this or that will happen so close before a **potential** chain split, that might cause the market to move through a bear market for a certain period of time. Important to realize is that the only entities that have a major share of influence on what might or might not happen, are miners themselves. Until that time, it's better to remain conservative with your speculations. By now it should be clear that miners aren't fighting for Bitcoin to become stronger, but to fill their pockets in any way, shape, or form.

Well, with miner SegWit not helps them earning more profit, so they always want UAHF and split chain network Bitcoin. But when have split chain Bitcoin system, the price of Bitcoin will decreasing or even flash crashing very fast, maybe under $2000 in that time is possible. We can not assume something that is not yet activated, it is really hard to speculate for now, but I guess there are many support for bitcoin in the market, that is why I am seeing market caps will be at large, but the thing is many users are dumping bitcoin overtime, I really like bitcoin the way that is unpredictable and the spike of uncertainty towards it's price and the fluctuation it can make over the market can really make a profit out of trades, but right now I am it is really hard to trade for now, it is better to stop and save your bitcoin for the time being.

Everyone talking here about split and thinking that it would harm Btc in any way are just taking wild guesses that BCC would take over bitcoin, but it will not be even 1% of it once Btc surpasses all these problems and gets out with the best scaling solutions after August starts. Btc really has the potential to get over there and 5k will be nothing once these debates come to an end.

I think also bitcoin price will reach 5000 dollars because it will continue to increase after the august 1 because many investor will invest again more money in bitcoin in aigust because we dont have doubt about bitcoin. At this point it doesn't really matter what way they follow to activate Segwit, essentially it's just Segwit and nothing else. If we look at the situation right now, then the split side that people here are massively speculating about (BCC), is just an altcoin, and a cheap and dirty trick of massive holders to gain an insane amount of profit basically instantly. They have absolutely zero moral problems making Bitcoin suffer for their own personal gains. It serves people well to remain conservative with their predictions, as a short term bear market isn't very far away. Having a decent amount of fiat aside that you can put into action is always a wise plan.

Absolutely, it can. I am 100% positive that Bitcoin can reach 5000 USD within this year. However, the question is if it will. Bitcoin has proven itself to all of us and doubling its price is very likely within some couple of months, but the future still is uncertain and no one can be so sure that it will. Many want, or should I say, need the price to increase in that rate, that includes me of course. I am looking forward to that.

For now  can't clarify that the price could be reach until $5k value but i believe that the price will be reach until $3k value this time if btcoin success after august 1 i think we will see the price will increase more and we will see nearly $5k in december  this is just the same as past year that the price increase fast nearly december..

I agree with you. For me, it is still not possible because the network of bitcoin is still on development and there is another split issue right after BIP91 locked out finish which is approximately occur on october-november. Ths might trigger panic again.

This one makes me laugh, for real. Everyone is discussing about August 1st, segwit, segwit2x, bcc, etc. And a thread like this pop-up out of nowhere. It's like commercial. Predicting $5000 by December without a basis. Too early for that man.

I'm sure it will be a surprise at the end of the year 2017 if the price figures showed $5000 bitcoin so for now, many investors who will invest their money back in the bitcoin in August because we know bitcoin will continually increase the value of the price in the market to trade thus should we can withstand a bit of as the end of the year 2017. Bitcoin shows the stable growth so I would not be surprised if by the end of the year it will cost $ 5,000. I just don't understand why people are surprised. I have used it every year the price increases. Bitcoin is a good alternative to the dollar and I think that growth rate will only increase.

We have come a long way to this point, who made it happened? people with deep pockets, they will continue to make it happening further more up the road, everyone coming here to earn their daily profits and never really care about the 5 or 10 years in the future.

I agree with this member, maybe $5k on this year its a bit ambitious. it's true we already seen the btc price this year that climb from around $1k to $2k and stable around $2500-$2600k, but with this situation, maybe $5k is too high. My prediction on this year is upto $4k and not more. Everything can happen, U could be right, but we have we own reason to predict.

$5k this year is easily doable because we saw how much litecoin price went up after segwit and bitcoin only needs a doubling over the next 4 months to reach $5k.

Whether it really happens though will depend on how much drama is created during the planned hard fork later this year.

For Litecoin, it was easier. The LTC market cap was only around $100 million in March, and it increased by around $900 million to reach the $1 billion mark. But the case with Bitcoin is different. It needs an increase of $40 billion to double its market cap.

your claim is not supported by any technical analysis to prove that you are correct. a simple chart will do. i think and guess that it will not reach $5000 in december. too early mate. a $3500 is a decent price i guess

I think not that much time is needed for bitcoin to reach 5000$.This year end bitcoin price will reaches 3200$.I think in two years this will happen. Next year bitcoin price is around 4200$ and the next year ,it will cross 5000$.But it will not require 5-10 years to reach that so.

The possibility of a price increase during November and December are always there and in my experience we could see some sort of rally during that period and it was like that in the past and i am sure it will be like that in the future,because for a coin of limited circulation i really think that the current price is under valued and with time we could see more people coming and with the number of increased user base the price would certainly rise.

I do respect everyones prediction, but for my own. I will be between 3500$-4500$ at end of this year. But 5000$ as what you predict is possible and i think i want it the same way.

Possible since no one can predict bitcoin but to be more realistic I think bitcoin will only reach $3000 before the end of this year, But I am not losing hope that it will reach $5000 well if that happen many will be happy specially people like me who keep their bitcoin in their wallet and planning to sell them when the price is good. Ya true. It possible to happen.Today price is 2716$ of bitcoin equalent to dollar. It may take 2-3 year to reach that value. At this year end the price may reach to 3250$ .Next year price may crossed 4000$  and after two years, the price may crossed 5000$.

Bitcoin moving forward and reaching $5000 has lots of possibilities though we're to face more issues in between such as the splitting. Most probably the price movement can be predicted only after the present day ends. This is all because the splitting hasn't occurred yet, but most of the legendary people say the splitting happens.

i think that the day is not too much far away that bitcoin price will be trading above 5000$. i think that we have a very good chance to trading bitcoin below 2700$ because those people who are waiting for the price to fell down bleow 2000$ they are just waisting their time and they are not going to get anything from bitcoin.

If SW is successfully activated later this month then i really don't see any reason why it can't be $5000 by the end of the year. The momentum is definitely in bitcoin's favour, with the price currently at $2700 even after the split which is surprisingly high in my opinion.

Of course it's all speculation, everything can go wrong or some whale just wants to get out of the market for some liquidity. It's definitely not guaranteed, but i think that we have a real chance here.

That's always how things go with Bitcoin. I remember how people were doubting to ever see the $1000 level again, back in 2015 when the price just wouldn't go over the $300 level for quite a long time. It's two years ago, but it feels like it is something that happened back in the 90's. :D It once again shows how rapidly things can change in the Bitcoin world. In 2020 we'll look back at current levels in the exact same way we look at sub $1000 levels right now. The only thing people need to do is leave their coins offline, and that's really it. If you're not a trader, then don't trade - people shouldn't explose themselves to unnecessary risks. Enjoy the ride.

I don't see that until the end of the year the price of bitcoin could reach $ 5,000. The processes that occur with bitcoins in August, can not affect the trust. Investments can go into altcoins. I'd be happy if the price by the end of the year will reach $ 3,500.

If that happens also that would be trademark move from the bitcoin. People will be buy more bitcoin from traders and bitcoin will not stagnated in one place. Hence, price movement and increase adoption will pass higher percentage. I expect bitcoin to touch 5000$ in coming december.

neither do i because i see that for reaching the price $3,5xx, we need more people to increase the price. maybe we need next year until the price is reach $4,xxx and then we can reach $5xxx. its still a long journey for bitcoin to reach that price because now, there is BCH that is waiting to be increase too like bitcoin.

So far bitcoin price did not disappoint on rising part, and i hope it will continue to do so. For years price has been rising, and it will continue to do so. Will it come to price of 5000 dollars till the end of this year... i doubt it. More realistic price would be steady 3500 dollars till end of this year. But i would be happy if it would go above. :D

If you can see, the value of bitcoins keep on rising and it doesn't disappoint all of us instead it gives us hope that it will be doing good in the future. If you were speculating about the 5000$ value of bitcoin, it's not possible for i am looking forward and willing to wait for it.

For me, the risk is what makes everything fun and encouraging people to just put their coins in their wallet is not the right way to go because it means everyone should just see bitcoin as a store of value and wake up in 3 years to become rich which in most cases not going to happen. I feel active participation is what is needed to get to that point and with the right combination of decisions the mark can be quite achieved quickly and even beyond the ceiling of $5000.

i think currently the price of  bitcoin is trading too much stable and still there are  too much potential in the price of bitcoin and therefore people are still too much confident about bitcoin trading and they therefore still involving money in bitcoin i think very soon bitcoin will be the main currency of the people and they will be using it for shopping and so many other purposes.

I won't be bothered by these combinations,  and as long as  tge btc economy will become stable for a few days and fluctuates again with a nice price value, I think you won't be losing your profit. People really made money eversince the start of bitcoin currency, and due to the increasing demand of btc that $5000 is not impossible to be reached that's why price now begun to spike through fluctuating scenario.

give some times for exchanges to settle down with the whole bch thing and for some to come back online (my exchange still isn't offering buying or selling btc) and after that, a couple of weeks, we'll probably see a rise in the price as it has been pretty stable last few days around $2600.

$5000 would be a heck of a price, i mean it is probably possible but not going to be very likely in my opinion.

Maybe if bitcoin cash fork wasn't activated, because right now the value of a bitcoin pre-fork is actually split between bitcoin cash and bitcoin. When SW gets locked in then i would think that the price of each bitcoin will rise above $3000 each, but probably not as extreme as $5000.

I'm by no means saying that it is not possible, i'm saying that it is probably not going to happen. There is a slight chance that it could happen. But we've already come a long way, and to me i don't think that we'll see any more major money pouring into bitcoin from an investment for another few years.

Of course as a bitcoin holder i would love it to happen too...

We will see this price in the end of the year and if not then definitely in next year as most of the users have faith that bitcoin will achieve this price in coming months and people are holding their coins so that they can sell when price touche there.

Indeed, we can't say yet because it is still tough for us to predict. But if you were a positive person you could assume that bitcoin will attain that amount. I do believe also that if bitcoin will continue to rise there's no doubt that it will touch $5000 hence for now I will buy first a lot of it so that I could gain more profit.

I don't think it would be possible for Bitcoin to touch $5000 by December when it finding it hard to cross the threshold of $3000. Moreover, there would be a hardfork event in November which will again bring lots of speculations and uncertainties with it. We might see a fall in price during that time which will make $5000 quite tough to reach. But $4000 is very much possible according to me.

Too early for now to assume that we'll be heading $5,000 soon. I don't think we are going to reach 5k very soon, it's not even becoming stable at $3k. We but I'm loving the slow movement of bitcoin's price today. This gives me more assurance that we are on the safe ride today and possible there will be no more crash.

It may take several more months to reach the target. But honestly I'm happy to see the current state of bitcoin. Bitcoin prices are very stable when the BCH issue begins. If you doubt Bitcoin in future can't touch to $5000/BTC, you can check in history when the time Bitcoin dump to lowest price after the accident Mt.Gox rob all Bitcoin of user their exchange. Not have more people in this time can keep their calm for holding Bitcoin, they just sell sell and sell and make the right dump many more, sometimes think it as died. But look at the price now after 4 years, around $3000 - $2500 lol :D

There are some factors which cause bitcoin could reach over $5000 or not.
Normally, bitcoin value always rise over time and even reach fantastic point in the end of the year.
And consider about Segwit will be activated, then I am sure we will see bitcoin exceed $5K.
But consider about another chain split, segwit2x 2Mb proposal, this news could lead to many speculations and bitcoin price will fall again.

I doubt there would be a further split as the ones who weren't supporting Segwit2x have already had their BCC hardfork. But still if 100% majority wouldn't reached, there would be a split. This would have major effect on the Bitcoin price. But that is too far to speculate anything. As for now I don't see $5000 before next year. We might see something near to $3500-$4000 for sure if this trend goes further. This slow growth of Bitcoin shows that it is getting stable with time.

Not even a month but it can possible happen next year. But we are not even expecting that the price of bitcoin will be good and stable at $2k today. Because earlier this year, the price hit $1,000 and most of us here are expecting that this year will end on $1,500 but this is unexpected. We may not know few months from now on what's about to happen.

It is still early to tell if Bitcoin would reach 5000$ let alone cross 3000$ it now all depends on how many times that the whales will make a profit taking and if they want to buy back at a lower price. Also we see that Bitcoin is always hard to predict because of how different investors views it some people think Bitcoin will fall and others think it will rise which they are both right because in the past month we say Bitcoin fall in the 1800$ level but it got back up at 2870$ level at most.

It's possible when Bitcoin cash down fall and because of that, bitcoin become more expensive and it might reach $5000. But it's so big though, for a price of a coin. We are not even reach $3000 right now, maybe up to $4000 for this year but who knows. It is possible but i'm not sure it will reach in this year.

i don't think so i think we'll gonna see some big dump on november so it will gonna take a lot of days before the bitcoin will pump again but if the segwit is 100% activated we could possibly see some $4000 by the end of this year :) just have a faith on bitcoin and learn how to do trading if you want to earn a lot of income in a month.

The price as of today is at 2767.35$ each and the 3000$ price is nearly coming aswell as I never see any huge downfall coming to it so I think price will go up and maybe this one would provably reached for 4000$ on these upcoming months and maybe 5000$ will be achievable by the end of the year or maybe on next year ownwards.

I think it will happen or it can't be happen. But that would depend in the community of bitcoin, if they want bitcoin to be like that in december for sure at the present time now many are buying and keeping their bitcoin or hold it in a long term because of this things.

5000$ is a big number to predict in a short period of time but from 1000$ -3100$ it is never impossible. Bitcoin always surprise us on how it's value increases in time to time. The $5,000 prediction was supposed to have been met between June and July. At least, that was what I heard on radio in February this year. Since it still hasn't been met till now means that the forecast has failed already and has dragged longer than necessary.

There's a possibility that bitcoin value was increase up to $5000 but in my opinion it is not happen in this year. Just don't get too excited to reach $5000. There are still a lot of room before touching it. I guess we need to overcome $3500 first. Right now the price has dip to $3300 to a high as $3450 today. So resistance has not started and we don't know if we can hold the $3300 price. The possibility to reach $5000 is there. But we have to wait for maybe a couple of months or before the end of the year But I believed that we can get it. Just need a little patience on our side and not too jumpy or excited early.

People were hoping to see the price of $3000 at the end of the year but it crossed that level in month of August so looking at the speedy growth of bitcoins I am sure that it will hit $5000 price in the end of the year or before that for sure.

Everybody expected doubling of bitcoin's price after SegWit, yes, there were those who predicted death of it, but in any case even if doubling didn't happen the price get raised and hired it's maximum few days after. However, i think that it is likely we'll hit the all time high at around $5000 per bitcoin at around end of August to mid September. I think there are only a few people still holding their <2010 coins. If you take into consideration that the price back then was just a few cents, and then later when the price reached $10, a whole lot of these early birds would definitely use that opportunity to cash out their massive profits. After that the price increased to $100>$200>$500>$1000, etc. It requires steel balls and dedication to keep holding the coins bought for a few cents a piece till now. I think at least 99% of the <2010 coins have been cashed out below the $1000 level.

Sustaining the current price is going to be impossible I think that what is happening is that people are expecting one last upward push, if you watch the graphs the recent price has gone down for the past days, to me this is an indication that the whales have cash out some money but are preparing to pump the price of bitcoin one last time before exiting and let the price go back to something close to 3700 after that we are going to see a market without too much movement until December.

I think its impossible that bitcoin cash will be the real bitcoin.. the real bitcoin is not a bitcoin cash its just bitcoin that i think this following month we will see burst increase and hit until $5k value  there as i can seen in the market there are many are buying more bitcoins ..
from stable price in few days now we are seen a jump of the price..

But that is even better if the people living today cannot think of the future and only care about right now this is good for us, since that means that a bigger share of the cake is going to be available for those that are able to think ahead and look at bitcoin as the chance they have been waiting, so your age does not matter, get into bitcoin now and change your life on the next 10 years.

I'm sure you are pointing the bitcoin cash mate and that coin is not the original bitcoin, you can actually see it by the numbers of supporter since bitcoin cash is not been suported yet by many sites these days. And Bitcoins are the one who's been adopted well and it is heading at 5000$ per piece.

My strategy is to hold both in equal quantities, just like before the fork. If by chance Bitcoin Cash becomes very successful, I will still make money. You don't want to lose out on that opportunity.

Interestingly, Bitcoin Cash is not even the competition for Bitcoin, we are going to have to wait till the end of November to see what the real competitor is like - users/miners. Till now, Bitcoin Cash is just one of the hen and the egg stories!

Hold on your coins for next couple of weeks and you will see that price but make sure that you don't get panic even if price crashes before that as its a common practice in bitcoins and I am very much confident that we will see that price pretty soon.

Just dont panic, simple as that remember on whats the price of bitcoin upon starting this year? It was at $1k and now we are seeing it x4-x5. Just keep your coins and as a long term holder I believe that there will be a good price very soon. Not only $5k,$6k but it can even reach up to $10k

That's correct we are gonna witness ATH price by the end of the year so its better to wait and hold your coins till that point of time as price will start increasing as we get close to the end of the year and the same thing we saw in last year and history will be repeated once again for sure.

After bitcoin touch the line over 5000$ in price it stops and made an immediate reverse going to 4500$. Even  altcoins  follow bitcoin going down, is this good or bad on bitcoin? Is it an opportunity to buy bitcoin at this current price cause the price goes down  and maybe next week bitcoin will recover.

Can't you see that after every dip comes good rise, and I don't see a reason why it will not happen again. In one of the previous prediction threads that k commented with a pool, I voted for 7000 dollars and more before new year and I didn't change my position about that. This downfall doesn't concerns me too much, its like usual with bitcoin price, I get use to see pessimistic predictions and I don't pay much attention on them anymore.
Bitcoin is made nice progress this year, and its not over yet. We will see new all times high before new years evening, remember my words.

I think we are going to see a halt on the bullish sentiment of bitcoin a lot sooner, similar to what happened to the previous fork where the decrease in price did not came when the fork happened but in the weeks prior to it, but I hope that as time passes the miners begin to withdraw their support to such a drastic measure since things are going to get even more confusing to newbies with three coins calling themselves bitcoin.
